How does the Smart Smoke Alarm connect to the internet?
Wi-Fi router. It does not connect to public internet access points (hotspots).
Is there an interconnection feature if I have several Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarms?
No, if you have more than one Smart Smoke Alarm, they will not interconnect although all of them will appear in the same app.
How many Smart Smoke Alarms can I add to a single Netatmo account or in the same house?
As many Smart Smoke Alarms as you like.
What happens if there is no internet connection?
Your Smart Smoke Alarm will operate as a conventional smoke alarm. It will still be triggered if smoke is detected. However, if there is no internet connection, it can’t send you a smartphone notification.
Can the battery be changed after 10 years?
No. The batteries are integral to the product and cannot be replaced. The Smart Smoke Alarm’s battery lasts for ten years and covers the full lifetime of the product.

a fantastic product from NETATMO – every home should a minimum of 2, Save Lives
Easy to install in the place of an old alarm. Easy to set up in Homekit. I’ve linked mine to cut power to the ventilation system to stop the spread of smoke and switch on the external light above the front door to help with evacuation after dark.
Very easy to install and setup in Apple Home app to control other smart devices when smoke is detected.
Stupidly easy to install and set up within the app.
The alarm runs self tests on connections and status which useful.
I only wished it did combined smoke and monoxide alarms for the price.
I bought this device to have peace in my mind when my little dog stays at home and my Flatmates forget to turn off the oven!
Very easy to install
Can’t comment on battery life ye
Easy to install, nice design, suggested battery life is very long, automated tests
This was a replacement for my Nest smoke detector that had informed me that it was 10 years old and was no longer able to function! The Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm fitting was easy and I was able to use the pervious fixing holes. The app was working very quickly, though I did need to enter the WiFi credentials.
Hi yes it’s very easy to use and very quick delivery I would recommend it to anyone. Thanks
Loving the product for now… loving the app, loving all….
Great camera overall, but the location presence is far from working. I have to select to be home everyday.
I get use to it and like a lot other features like design and HomeKit integratio
Excellent build quality and clean design. Comes with clear instructions and all the fittings. I have an array of Netatmo products (cameras, sensors) around the house, and Netatmo have never disappointed.
My home is getting more and more connected – this is a logical step, easy to install and manage on iPhone
Fit it, connect it to your WIFI, and it looks after itself, but you can now feel safe and secure.
If it is important for you to have a smoke detector that is easy to install and fits perfectly into your smart home system then this is the one.
Easy to install and setup, looks a smart bit of kit and dose exactly what they said it would do. Only bought 2 to start with now I’m happy with them I’m going to o put more round my house
Been up on the ceiling now for a few months and after a few hiccups setting it up with their android phone all has been well.
Bigger than an ordinary smoke detector and the only thing I don’t like is that you can’t hear how loud it will be if it is actually triggered by smoke / fire.
The test option only sounds it at a lower volume level.
It uses Bluetooth to set it up and chat to the app and WiFi to permit the app to alert you when not at home.
This is a pretty good product as it could well save your life. I like that you can mute the alarm so if you are frying beacon you can turn the alarm off.
Netatmo NSA-UK Smart Smoke Alarm, White [Energy Class A]
The alarm.
This is a battery powered fire alarm (built in 10 year battery) with built in mobile phone alert system.
Set up.
It is easy to fix and pair with a mobile using an app for the device. The app alerts you if the alarm has been activated and gives the battery state. It was easy to fix and full instructions are supplied.
I fixed it into one of our out buildings which stores flammable paint and chemicals. It gives great piece of mind.
Overall.
An easy to sit and set up smoke alarm with brilliant and simn0ple app. Works very well. It is set and forget and if there is a fire alert you will be notified immediately. We have had it fixed in for 6 months and it works perfectly. My only criticism is that it is quite expensive.
The smoke alarm is very easy to install an to link to a wifi router.
The App is basic but does everything necessary to monitor the alarm.
It works in standalone mode but is not quite as loud as might be ideal.
You can compare and contrast various products, but just looking at this in isolation, it’s excellent. Super easy to install (attach base to ceiling, clip unit to base, 5min job), and very easy to get added within the app, alongside other Netatmo products you may already have.
Once set-up, you then have the capacity to receive real time alerts when the alarm goes off, and the capacity to silence it for 15mins.
This unit isn’t cheap, but when you consider it’ll last 10yrs (the absolute lifespan), that’s only 9 a year for piece of mind.
Very easy to fit and no wiring required, just 2 x screws to fit to the celling and the smoke detector clips on. The detector comes with non-replaceable 10yr batteries which is the max life span of any smoke detector.
The app was very easy to download and set up. As with all smart home devices, the App connects to the detector first via Bluetooth so you can enter your home wi-fi details then it connects directly to your home wi-fi. There was a firmware update required which took a while during set up.
It does exactly the job it was intended for and its handy to be able to receive real-time alerts if you are away from the home. The smoke alarm will work standalone as a smoke alarm without connecting to a smartphone.
The App features are basic, you are able to silent the alarm from the app and get notifications if it disconnects from your wi-fi but that’s pretty much it. Hopefully future firmware updates will add more features like grouping smoke detectors or being able to distinguish if the alert is from and upstairs or downstairs smoke detector.
it also would have been nice if the smoke detector could of offered real-time alerts on carbon monoxide.
Best feature is with no wiring its very easy to mount on the ceiling.
This is an excellent product. I have a couple of other Netatmo products and think they are well designed and they do “just work”. I also had occasion to deal with customer services about the return of a product which I had ordered in error (my mistake) and they were excellent.
This smoke alarm was simplicity itself to install. As it happened I had an electrician in the house doing a variety of other jobs and he actually fitted it. But all that involved was screwing the back plate to the ceiling and then clipping on the unit itself. The act of clipping on the unit activates it.
As I already have the Netatmo Security app I went into that and added the smoke alarm. It did take me a few minutes to locate the menu to add another product but once I had figured that out installation on my phone was straightforward.
I went through the various status checks and checked that the sounder was working (for this test it sounds at a lower level than if it rings having detected smoke.
It’s got a 10 year life even though it is battery powered.
You can, of course, get a wired smoke alarm at about half the cost of this unit, but for ease of installation (and avoiding the cost of an electrician to install or replace a smoke alarm) I think this actually represents good value for money.
This was very easy to install. There’s a baseplate you install first using two screws, and the unit then screw on top very easily. Set-up is via the Netatmo Security app and is extremely straightforward once you have created an account (I already had one for my Welcome camera). The unit updated its firmware and was ready to go in just a few minutes. Obviously the proof of the pudding will come when there is smoke, but so far, so good.
We really like Netatmo and recently bought our son one of their smart thermostats and we both have a Netatmo weather station — all from Amazon, all excellent products. They are a French company and their products are beautifully designed. This smoke alarm is understated but attractive and is very well made. It proved very easy to install, taking only minutes. The battery lasts ten years so no being woken in the night with strange “beeps”. The alarm is 85dB and piercingly loud.
All good!
This Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm is elegantly designed and certainly looks more pleasing than a cheap DIY store smoke alarm albeit a bit deeper. The instructions are clear and, basically, all you have to do to get going is download the app (Android or IOS), screw in the ceiling mount and when you attach the alarm to the mount it switches it on. I found the connection process between the alarm and my Bluetooth/wi-fi via smartphone simple.
The internal batteries are not user replaceable but, in normal use, the pre-installed cells should last 10 years which is the life of most smoke alarm hardware of this type – you’d have to change the alarm itself after 10 years anyway. The unit is self-checking and will send a sound test reminder to your smartphone. I used a smoke alarm test aerosol to check the function of this device and it clearly works well emitting a loud 85dB alarm. The remote alarm function is reassuring when you are away from home – if the alarm detects a malfunction or smoke a message is sent to your phone.
No product is perfect, and the two things I wish I could change about this device are, firstly, I wish the mount was screwless, I hate drilling into ceilings but understand that most alarms are fitted in this way. Secondly, the obvious competitor for this alarm is the Nest Protect which is now a very similar price – the Nest also offers carbon monoxide protection which, to me, is as important as smoke detection plus features an escape light too. I would need a compelling reason to choose this Netatmo Smoke Alarm over the Nest Protect but can’t see one.
In summary, this Netatmo Smoke Alarm delivers all it promises, but the lack of carbon monoxide detection which is available at the same price point from a key competitor means it loses a star in my book.
This consists of a baseplate, which is screwed to the wall/ceiling and the main body, which twists onto it. At this point, the alarm becomes live.
Setup using the Netatmo Security app involves connecting first via Bluetooth. This immediately declared the need to update the firmware! After a long wait, where the firmware was updated, and the alarm rebooted, I then got the message that the app could not proceed. Several reasons were given, none relevant. The only solution is to take the alarm off the wall, press its reset button, and start again. That did the trick, but the situation should never arise. Will this happen at all future updates? I assume there may be a few in its ten year lifetime.
Hopefully, after this, and connecting it to WiFi, I should have a peaceful life with it, with no incidents. In the app, all you see is a picture of the alarm. There is nothing else to show if there is no fire. I am not going to rush to start one just to find out!
So, quite a boring bit of smart kit, really, and there will not be much entertainment for your money. I hope.
I love NEtatmo products, they are designed well, easy to use and the software is beautifully designed too. All of their products are subscription free which other manufacturers should take a look at! These devices are also compatible with IFTTT to allow you configure a clever smart home.
The only small gripe I had with this was that I managed to drill the ceiling, install the rawl plugs, screws and fit the base, place the unit in place and see that it had been accepted in the Netatmo Security app faster than I did a firmware update and finish off the installation in app! So in a nutshell I had the unit installed within five minutes and the digital bits and bobs took around seven minutes to complete.
Overall the noise this emits is as good as usual detectors, not temperamental like other smoke detectors with toast or general cooking. I am a little upset though that the battery is a ten year fixed battery system that means you’ll have to replace the unit when it dies, I don’t mind the fact that cost wise this would only come to circa 9 a year but aren’t we in a position to get past this throw away society and stop littering the planet? Overall a ver competent unit that’s easy to put in place and use with the Security App – same one that works your cameras.
One thing I’d like to see Netatmo do with their various devices is use a overall temperature (as most of the devices seem to record temperature), and I’d like to have my thermostat use a house wide average instead of what the main relay states.
It arrived promptly, and was well packaged. It was super super easy to install, and after a lengthy software update (I thought the camera was malfunctioning) it now works flawlessly and has great night vision too.
It sometimes recognises faces incorrectly, but it is learning and it will take time. At least it recognises it is a face and doesn’t alert you to every movement going on in the room like some cameras.
I love the fact that I don’t have to have a subscription service to use this camera and can link it to my Dropbox account and manage the footage from there.
Set was easy and straight forward. There is however a live view delay which is quite frustrating if you want to see the feed in real time. Face recognition, once set has so far given no errors. Notifications are prompt. On the downside, I have had to position one of the cameras in a position that is not ideal as it picks up faces from the TV with no apparent way of preventing it. Waiting for the integration with Apple Home kit.
Got this for our lounge as added security.
It’s a pretty little thing, is easy to set up, and has a good coverage.
Worth considering where you are going to put it before you buy it, though.
Windows have to be behind it, and it needs to be near a plug. Also needs to face a door, otherwise it’s avoidable.
Works well, great app, good facial recognition and smart alerts.
Having previously wasted a fair few days of my life with the first generation Canary system, I finally decided to try again and bought this with relatively low expectations. But it seemed the best options, the reviews were ok, and it fitted my needs: a camera with low cost storage with motion detection and live viewing, for a bit more control of what is happening in our house when we are out or asleep.
I works really well. In a couple of days it had learnt most of our faces and the privacy settings mean you can set it up so you don’t get lots of video of the family. Very happy. It just sort of works. We have tv screen just in the field of view so sometimes I get a face popping up as ‘just seen at home’ that is a bit unlikely (Gary Lineker?) but not a big deal.
All I need now is some extra add on cameras, ability to connect and speak to people, and Alexa integration.
Pros:
Looks good
Face recognition algorithms are not bad.
No false positives
No cloud subscriptions.
(I wrote small android app to welcome people by name using its notifications. people feel good when my tablet dashboard welcomes friends with name)
Cons:
Drops connection frequently (I ended up with using ethernet cable)
Misses faces
Lag time in notifications.
You lose evidence videos if it is stollen.
Update: Connection drops was because of my router not the camera.
I have got some false positives also ignored some faces.
