What is the difference between the Wired and Wireless Smart Thermostat – Starter Kit?
The Wired Smart Thermostat replaces wired thermostats connected e.g. to your boiler. You’ll need the Wireless Smart Thermostat if you have a wireless thermostat connected to your boiler or none at all.
How does the Wireless Smart Thermostat – Starter Kit work?
The Starter Kit includes the Internet Bridge, which connects to the internet via your router. It communicates with the Smart Thermostat, which contains a Wireless Temperature Sensor and a Wireless Receiver, which communicate with each other.

The system is great, reasonably easy to install and very easy to use BUT, like so many companies these days, you can not talk to anyone. No phone numbers, just a “live chat” which isn’t live of course but promises a response within 24h. Not much good when standing g in front of the box with wires waiting to be connected! Also the said “24h response” came 3 days later LOL!
It wasnt seemless as they were on really really old firmware versions, in the end one refused to update / work.
Their technical support wanted to take me around the mountains to solve it.
Eventually the technical support Pushed the update needed from their end… hopefully I have no more issues with it.

The install app takes you through step by step with simple and easy to follow diagrams specific to your boiler model – really an excellent piece of software design.
One tip for those installing to an ideal boiler with standard wireless thermostat (e.g. mine: ideal logic+ c30) : after install, you need to unplug and remove the old wireless receiver (the little box in the recess on the front of the boiler) and plug in the original timer option plug which the boiler originally comes with as standard: a simple plastic plug with a short between two of the connections. If you dont have this, you can buy one for a few pounds (type “ideal boiler timer option plug” into google, just make make sure you get the right one for your boiler, as there appears to be both three or five pin versions). Alternatively, as I did, you can make your own short between two of the connections using a short wire. The new tado wireless receiver wont switch your heating until the old receiver is properly removed and replaced by this short.
Once installed, the control app is great. Lots of options and intuitive.
I have gone big into the Tado ecosystem of smart heating devices. The overall climate within my house is now far more comfortable and smarter with my ability to control temperatures remotely through the intuitive mobile application. So pleased that I made the jump and chose their technology.
I have a Tado system in my home but wanted better control of the bedroom radiators. Purchased three of them and fitted in less than 10mins.
They operate and function as I wished.
However since purchasing them they have gone up in price twice. I paid 41.99 each and they did go upto 54.**.
Now Tado have a retail price of over 60 with a 25% discount that’s still more than I originally paid.
These could be sold for around 35 each inline with some other manufacturers and still make a profit.
Shame Tado, your pricing yourselves out of the market again.
Very easy to install and setup and very easy to use. Much better on both counts than BG hive.
Decided to spend our Christmas money/vouchers from grampers on home upgrade. We have Baxi combi boiler with two wired thermostat, 1 downstairs and other upstairs. Bought the starter kit wired thermostat with bridge and a second wired thermostat about 200.
Watched Tado’s installation video on YouTube. Seemed pretty easy and it was to install. The Tado wired thermostat comes pre-programmed for use with wired boiler set-up so no need to configure, was easy to install. Downloaded the app and really easy to setup heating schedule. Few reviews mention not being able to copy/paste a schedule to following day but this feature has been added and works fine. I have setup schedule that works better around us instead of the previous limited options we had with the old thermostat and best of all we can control from anywhere, saving money when we are out of the house. We are not subscribed as easy to set the devices to away mode with one tap on your phone . Overall very impressed and looks great on the wall 🙂 very modern and sleek.
Great equipment to reduce heating costs. Installed it myself. Simple set up, simple installation, fantastic app in my phone, it can’t be much easier to adjust temperature in your house to actual needs by manua or automatic control. I think the investments will be fully paid already within 2 month, my present savings are in the range of 20+%.
The thermostat was easy to install. Being hard wired really did worry me, however simple instructions and common sense made the install very easy. Only issue I had, was the power lead for the little hub is stupidly short. 30cm maybe, which just makes it impractical in 99% of installations.
Easy to configure and connect up to Alexa also and responds to the very few basic commands you can give.
Downsides are its limitations within the Tado app and the Alexa integration. If you use an Alexa command, you have to go back in to the Tado app to revert back to the auto heating schedule, there is no way to do this with Alexa. So any time you boost the heating, the app is also required, so defeats the object to an extent. Temperature is easily controlled with Alexa, but again, any changes results in the schedule being stopped and having to go in to the app to continue it, shame as it surely is simple enough to ensure scheduling remains in place… Would recommend as was cheaper than replacing the faulty timer on our combi.
Tado is incredibly easy to use and install, providing you have a compatible system. The technical support is a long and arduous process with replies taking up to and over a day. If you live in a Redrow home, the liklihood is that the system won’t be compatible as it’s only a two channel programmer and not three as installed by Redrow (ref. ESI system). You can get around it by making the up and downstairs heating circuits one by connecting both to ‘CH NO’ on the Tado receiver. This is how I setup mine and it works a treat.

Previous to having a system like this, I found the idea a bit of a gimmick, however the remote on my standard thermostat got damaged so I decided to upgrade.
The item that this review is about is the basic piece of kit that connects to your internet and boiler to allow you to control/set schedules/get notifications if you’re away from home and the heating is on etc. the real magic is with the radiator attachments. These are sold separately and are quite expensive, but in my opinion are a must (you can control rooms temperature’s individually)
The set up of the software was very easy, as well as integration with Alexa. The hardest part is hard wiring to the boiler. This was only because I didn’t know which cables to attach to each port. I asked an electrician friend who told me and it took me 1 minute to install.
I did get quotes for a professional and it was 120-140 which is quite a lot on top of the system and the radiator attachments.
I got all of my stuff on Black Friday so I would say value for money, standard price can be quite expensive, especially if you have to pay for installatio

What Tado benefits from is being able to control each room separately if used in tandem with the Smart TRVs.
The Smart Thermostat allows a room that has one or more TRVs fitted to create an additional temperature reading rather than a false slightly warmer temperature given from the TRVs.
The idea here is that the Thermostat can be placed in an easy to reach and neutral area of a room to let Tado know exactly what temperature the ambient air is.
The system works pretty well although I don’t like how changes are sent to the cloud first and then to your heating controls but that’s for another review.
Aesthetics are a love or hate topic, I’m sitting on the middle ground here and I don’t mind the aesthetics but Nest wins hands down here with the easy to understand screen and rotatable dial which is so much better than the button press and then touch press to change the temperature.
Unfortunately, there isn’t really much you can do about it and you have to buy one or more of these if you want to integrate fully in to the ecosystem.
Have been able to install it on my own ,but it not easy at all… Instruction from tado aplication are not complete ,had to use attached printed instructions for ” professionals installers only ”
Almost returned item ,as boiler is continuously running and is not possible switch off heating from application. Checked online and it is common problem…
I have got boiler in a kitchen ,so can turn it off manually, but if it was in a garage I would regret this purchase
Overall is a good product together with radiator thermostats keeping required temperature around a house.
Arrived on time we’ll packed. Unboxed it and found the quick install guide and thought help. I had already spent a day putting trv’s on all my radiators which was a challenge on it’s own because I had to change the tails which ment getting a special tool, anyway started off following the instructions disable the wired thermostat, plug in the tado hub the start adding bits and it was very easy after you select the bits you have , boiler/programmer them it give you detailed instructions on what to do my biggest problem was getting the old programmer off but after that simple then at the end change it to gavity from pumped that’s done then. Just set the schedule . Then fitted the rad valves realy easy took about 3 minutes a rad the longest thing was to set the schedule most were the same for every day it the office was different two days which ment you got to set it 7 days which is a bit slow but it all works great would recommend it, not sure it will save any money but the house is warmer no cold spots.
Can’t believe how easy it was to replace 2 Honeywell wired thermostats with these Tado ones. The instructions were simple, screen by screen on phone, everything connected and worked straight away. Setting the schedules was easy enough via the app but would’ve been nice if you could copy on day to another(small gripe).
Only just installed them but really happy so far.
I bought this during the Black Friday event for 135 and was a little nervous about installation as I’m no electrician. Straight out of the box, the internet bridge connected seamlessly and quickly and simply paired with the wireless thermostat.
Tado provides bespoke installation instructions just for your particular heating setup taking into account makes and models of boiler, programmer and existing thermostat, I basically picked my thermostat from the drop down box and followed the very easy to understand wiring instructions. This procedure was then followed for replacing my existing programmer with the wireless receiver. Tado made this daunting process easy, so don’t be put off, the instructions were provided on an easy to understand step by step and now we have complete smart control of both our heating and hot water. I have also purchased a pack of 4 smart Tado thermostatic radiator valve heads to allow heating zoning on a room by room basis.
The installation took less than an hour in total.
I wanted a simple system to control heating and wasn’t interested in controlling hot water as we have this on constant anyway. (Have a hot water tank, not a combi boiler) I went for the wired Tado thermostat as I like the fact if your broadband goes down you can still can control the heating via the Tado thermostat. Also liked the fact that I didn’t have to change my timer unit and have to purchase the extension kit
Very easy to install, online instructions very clear. Replaced existing old dial Honeywell thermostat. Kept my existing timer controller next to boiler and just put heating on constant mode to enable the Tado wired thermostat to take over the heating function by creating scheduled times in the app and then adjusting heat as you want.
I understand other people views on the geo fencing about paying extra for this on a monthly subscription. This doesn’t bother me and you still retain quite a lot of functionality. If geo fencing is a deal breaker though then perhaps opt for a different system.
Overall, very pleased with the product and would recommend on ease of setup. Took me about 1 hour to install.

Bought this temperature sensor on offer otherwise it becomes a expensive necessity. They are useful when used with Tado TRVs that may be obscured behind furniture where it is not able to capture an accurate room temperature from the TRV itself. It has prevented the heating being turned on/off when it is or isn’t required
Installation begins in the Tado app, which takes you step by step through the process. It took seconds to remove our current thermostatic valve, but the lack of a brand mark meant we were uncertain about the brand. A Google search (combined with support pages on Tado’s website) directed us to the right combination of adapter and pin. It took us about 20 minutes to fit the first valve, but the others were each done in about 5 minutes.
One quick tip: on our first radiator we encountered a calibration error, E04. Refitting the original valve and opening and closing the valve a number of times, corrected this issue. On the others, we did this before removing the original valve and had no configuration errors.
Very good, super easy to install but a little pricey for what it is. Hopefully it will pay itself off over time.
I bought these after doing a lot of research into the smart home thermostats. Tado seem to be the only ones that offer TRV’s that communicate with the wall thermostat. The thermostat was so easy to fit just follow the instructions on the app once you have the thermostats, it was only 2 wires in my install…It is important you check with Tado before purchase they will let you know if there products is compatable with your system. I got these on a offer on Amazon that was far cheaper than buying direct from Tado…watch out for the offers saved me a lot of money
I did look at other AC remote controls and the tado one was 30 cheaper so I bought one to give it a try, this was my first Tado device and it’s very easy to setup and configure due to the tados intuitive interface.
This now allows me to remotely control my heating/cooling air conditioner from my phone which is just perfect for my gym which is remote from the house.
Would definitely recommend this product.
Great device for controlling zones, group of radiators, floors, whole heating system, you name it. It also measures the temperature where it should be measured, so no more over- or underheating because the sensor on the radiator is saying that’s 20 where is 17 really or vice versa. Our living room is now at the just right heating level all the time. The RRP price is a little bit high so I’m waiting for another deal to buy at least one more for kitchen.
This is a great Add-on to my radiator valves as one of my valves is too close to a wardrobe so give inaccurate temperature. This well made & small wireless temperature sensor, works well in giving an accurate room temperature & sending that info to the radiator valve in that room.
I would definitely recommend this to any one that has a Tado radiator valve that is giving inaccurate temperature due to direct sunlight or being covered.

Ho riscontrato alcuni problemi di installazione con due dispositivi che non proseguivano con la configurazione: problematica Tado di alcuni modelli (ho contattato personalmente Tado per risolvere questo problema, ahim non risolvibile se non con una sostituzione del prodotto).
Nella confezione sono inclusi: cavo e caricatore entrambi bianchi (di discreta qualit) e due strisce bi-adesive.

It might take a bit to install and do the settings, but once you figure out how Tado works then you’ll love it.

If you want to activate the Auto-assist feature then you’ll have to pay a subscription of 2.99/ month, but you don’t want to pay you can use the Smart schedule feature.

Leider ist das Installationsprocedere unterirdisch dokumentiert. Weder in den beiliegenden Unterlagen noch auf den Online Support Seiten gab es die korrekten Hinweise. Ich musste Tado also direkt kontaktieren, was ber Telefon NICHT mehr funktoniert. Es geht nur noch ber den online Chat. Lange Rede, kurzer Sinn – auch ich musste das Gert erst in den Werkszustand versetzen. Danach habe ich im WLAN Men meines Iphone (das natrlich im 2,4 Netz funkte) das Tado Gert ausgewhlt. Im Anschluss wurde neue Software geladen.
Auch danach musste der Rest der Einrichtung mit ziemlich viel Raterei betrieben werden. Schade eigentlich, denn jetzt, wo das Gert eingerichtet ist, funktioniert die Steuerung der Klimaanlage super. Auch ber Apple Homekit.
Bedeutet: Ich kann an einem heien Tag die Anlage von Unterwegs einschalten und die Temperatur vorwhlen. Super Sache.
Ein Tip zum WLAN. Viele Router, die auf 2,4 und 5 Kanlen funken, nutzen hierzu einen einheitlichen Namen fr das WLAN. Das kann, wenn man ein Gert wie den Tado AAC einbinden will, zu Problemen fhren. Gelst habe ich es dadurch, dass ich dem 2,4 WLAN einen eigenen Namen verpasst habe. Seitdem finden meine 2,4er Smarthome Gerte ihr Netz auch nach einem Stromausfall wieder.

So stelle ich mir einen Support vor, Problem per Mail geschildert, schnelle Antwort und Lsung des Problems. Das kann ich von einem sehr beliebten Konkurrenzprodukt nicht behaupten. Da hat sich der Support echt selten dmlich angestellt… Hier alles zu meiner Zufriedenheit.
Die Reichweite und Verarbeitung sind ebenfalls sehr gut. Auch das Design macht was her, an der Wand. Sieht einfach stylisch aus, aber das ist wie immer Geschmackssache.
Ich kann die negativen Bewertungen berhaupt nicht nachvollziehen!

We’ve got this wall mounted although you can just have it placed on top of a counter or shelf. The only thing about wall mounting it is you do have a USB cable trailing from it. We’ve got it hooked up through Apple HomeKit and after an update it’s ready to go. The app is straightforward to use and our AC unit was listed on it so set up was pretty straightforward. One thing we’ve notice is that changes don’t necessarily take place instantly but they will eventually go through. Overall pretty happy.
I use the latest version of Android and the installation of the App was very easy. It was set up, installed and fully working within 15 minutes. We use the system in the conservatory and so far I cannot complain. The Air Con is fully controllable and all have worked very well. I am happy to Recommend this unit.
We’ve got this to use in a small annex in which we’ve got AC installed, and after a couple of days it seems to be working really well. This is pleasing, as Tado is a make I’ve not come across before.
It was easy to install and seems to work well (we are using it with Alexa). We’ve noticed that the actual AC sometimes seems to lag, so if you change a setting on your phone then it can take a few seconds for your AC unit to adjust) but that’s not a problem once you’re used to it; it’s just that at first you do have a few seconds when you think it might not be working. Pleased with this.
There products are very good, easy to use and well made.
La programacin por bloques horarios es muy intuitiva e incluso puedes hacer que se active o desactive por geolocalizacin aunque yo no la he activado porque deja el GPS activo todo el tiempo con el consecuente desgaste de batera. Aconsejo activar una automatizacin por geolocalizacin en Homekit que hace un uso ms inteligente de la batera.
Por qu no le he dado una quinta estrella? Pues porque la integracin con Homekit y Alexa es muy simplona y no permite el grado de configuracin que la app de TADO. Las capturas de pantalla muestran como se ven los mismo ajustes en TADO, HomeKit y Alexa. Lo ms llamativo es que en Homekit, los modos Dry, Fan y Auto no estn. De Alexa no digo nada… es un desastre. Es el motivo de no dar la quinta estrella.
An as comprar ms unidades para otras estancias de la casa pues como digo la app de Tado est muy bien.
The thing about tado is that they have a feel of a small company that is trying to improve, the app and software is regularly updated and their helpdesk is not bad, which in itself is a rare thing. It’s not cheap but like that it is non-google as I think I give google enough info already!
The only downside is their manuals and installation guide – they have a questionnaire so they send you the right manual, if that fails you have to call up – give people a backstop and put all installation guides on line. If you have circuit breakers and an existing thermostat you can do the installation yourself.
