Fun little camera that does everything it needs to do for a fraction of the price of the bigger brands. Came with a bunch of accessories, which was nice. I appreciated having 2 batteries included as well. The waterproof case works perfectly. Handy being able to connect to the wifi to upload pics from the camera to my phone. Only thing it doesn’t seem to do well is take a picture from the phone, (you can press the capture button on your phone but the picture came out a bit distorted) but not something I expect to use, really. It’s a little bit annoying to change modes i.e. from photo to video you have to push the mode button quite a few times, but that’s not a deal breaker. All in all, I’m very happy with my purchase!
The quality of this camera is good and I’m happy with the picture quality even at 1080p. But the battery only lasts for around an hour. It does come with 2 batteries but as most of my rides are longer than this the camera will stop working before I get home. I bought the camera for the sole pupose of recording any incidents while out on my bike which unfortunately are increasing with the numer of idiots on the road.
I like that it’s easy to use, and there’s no proprietary software needed to process the videos. I use it in a baited remote underwater video showing life on the seabed, mostly in a marina in UK, but sometimes in more exotic locations as in the photo. I also use it to record surveys of catshark eggcases in UK in a shallow and rocky gulley. The camera is robust enough to take quite rough treatment, and when the treatment is too rough it doesn’t cost a fortune to replace. It’s only drawback is that on the rare occasions when I’ve wanted to take still pictures underwater (when my Olympus TG has run out of power) it’s not so good at close-up shots.
Only used it for practice yet, will be using it with my kayak, so far everything looks good
It does everything I want it to do, clear pictures and video and great audio
So, firstly, unlike some of the 5 star reviews/comments, I have not been bribed to write this! No freebies offered and nobody has asked me to write this. I was undecided as to whether or not to buy a GoPro for my recent heli-snowboarding trip in Alaska. It was an epic trip and I wanted to capture this on film. However, a GoPro was going to cost 400, whereas this was 50! 2 of the others in my group bought GoPros and I bought this. We all downloaded and created videos of the adventure when we got home and shared them with each other on social media. Suffice to say that the videos created from a GoPro were no better than from this. It was really easy too, so don’t believe all the reviews about a bad user interface. The menu system on the camera is quirky but easy enough to work out and use. Then, once back home I just popped the micro SD card into my MacBook Air, uploaded the videos to iMovie and created my masterpieces. I didn’t use their software or app for this, so cannot comment on this, but you don’t need it anyway. The files are recognisable on my MacBook and in iMovie, so all good. Finally, I took the advice of other reviewers and shot all of my footage in HD 1028, rather than 4K, and sure enough the image stabilisation worked well. Oh, and lastly, it comes with loads of attachments, that are identical to those on a GoPro, so things like selfie sticks etc all fit fine. My advice is to pay 1/8 of the price of a GoPro and buy this instead!
The camera is a very cheap alternative to
Some more expensive brands. Very easy to use. Good quality image and video. Super easy to set up and use which comes with a host of connections. Better still 2 batteries. I purchased a second camera for my brother as I was so impressed. Customer service is first class. Delivered on time. The clear waterproof camera case is superb. I would certainly reccomend this product and the sellers attention to detail is commendable. There is an online support and a programme with wifi upload etc. Not used this properly just yet but I think it will be exactley what I need. I am not too good with technology but this camera is so simple to use and a quality item.
Was looking everywhere for a decent action camera to go away with, Instead of going for a go pro and EK7000 came up while shopping, literally the best thing I’ve ever brought. Super quick delivery, helpful instructions and over all the camera is amazing! Thank you for a great camera!
I’ve had the Akaso action camera for a while now and can say in both indoor and outdoor light levels the video quality is fantastic. I was also pleased with the many extras, such as helmet and bike mount, both of which are solid and should stand the test of time. Audio quality is great but reduced when in the waterproof case as expected. The camera has some great shooting modes and the app is easy to connect to and navigate. The battery drains quite quickly shooting in 4k. But thankfully you get two. So one can always be on charge. And anyhow, for the size of the camera you can’t expect all day battery life. In conclusion, the camera is beyond my expectations for the price and a real contender against cameras more than twice the price. Highly recommended
Purchase this for my 10-year-old son, he has managed to use it very easily, the camera stands up well against all those little knocks and drops from kids. good battery life and last a couple of hours, and come with all basic accessories which are a good starter kit and two batters to make sure the fun does not stop. Have used it to film a series of youtube short videos and animations. Only one small issue, the camera struggle to focus correctly in poor light, but nothing a handheld touch can’t resolve.
Good quality camera and case plus a bag full of accessories to help you make best use, whether on dry land or underwater. I have tested the camera in water but haven’t used it in the sea yet, that will come later in the summer.
The instructions for use are clear and easy to follow and the controls are simple to master. There are so many connections possible with the bundle that comes with the camera, it will easily attach to your bike, an extension pole, tripod, dive mask, they’ve thought of everything really. Really happy with this purchase after a bad experience from a rival “waterproof” camera manufacturer. Highly recommended for price, quality and customer service!
I bought this camera to use on our Honeymoon as we love beaches and pools but always feel like we’re missing out on amazing pictures in the sea. My first piece of advice would be to test the waterproof casing without the camera inside it to make sure it’s airtight. Luckily ours was and we’ve had no problems with it in water.
It seems very straightforward to use, Took a bit of fiddling to get used to it but nothing sinister.
The biggest problem I had was syncing the camera to an app, using an app meant you could look at your pictures on a better quality screen, You can view them on the actual camera itself however because it’s such a compact camera it can be difficult to see the quality. I tried every app I could see listed in the description and even those listed by other buyers and none worked. However when I got in touch with the manufacturer they recommended another app ‘XDV’ which seems to work fine. Another option to look at the pictures would be to take the SD card out and look at it on a computer. But that’s not an option when you’re taking the camera on holiday.
Overall I would recommend the camera to someone on a budget who isn’t overly tech savvy, that being said looking back I do wish I had shopped around more. For the price I paid I’m very happy with it, but do you wish i’d done a bit more research.
Brilliant customer service tho. They fixed any problem I went to them with. Although they are very pushy if you give them less than 5* reviews
I was looking at buying a camera at 5 times the price of this one until I saw this, I purchased it and have to say I am extremely happy I went with the cheaper camera as its just as good as the leading brand amazing 4k video, clear as a bell HD picture taking it is by far the best camera I have ever used 5*
Brought this camera for my Son, he uses it to record his goalkeeping during matches to then look back on afterwards an identify with his coach areas to improve on. The footage is clean with no distortion. He’s used it in all weathers and used the tri pod and had it tethered to the cross bar. It’s got wet, muddy blown over and hit with a football and still works fine every time. Good battery duration and proven durability. Would highly recommend, especially for sports personnel or people wanting to film extreme sports etc.
i bike to and from work (weather permitting) nearly every day, and a few of the parts of my trip see me with right-of-way but clueless/careless drivers ignoring that fact, i’ve nearly been knocked off a few times so i decided to cover myself with video evidence incase i ever do have a bump.
the camera came with a ton of mounting options, you can pretty much mount this thing anywhere,
and having two batteries means that i can switch them out each week without any missed days.
the picture quality is good, even bounncing up and down on my handlebars, license plates are clearly visible, a great pourchase, and so much cheaper than alternatives.
happy customer!
Disappointed with these units not being able to fully work with android / Samsung. Yet work 100% with apple. Disappointing as the album will not load up on android.
It’s exceeded my expectations and is brilliant in quality. The accessories are a good touch and the picture quality is great. Couldn’t ask for more for the price!
The image quality on this little gem is absolutely clear and amazing. The little clip attachment makes filming so much easier hands free-very convenient. The AKASO EK7000 4K WIFI Sports Action Camera is great! You have the ability to either take pictures or videos on land and also up to 98 feet of water. There is a handy wristband you can wear to take remote pictures or videos and you can also download their App where you can take remote pictures/videos and playback content. There are many accessories provided that allow you to attach the camera which includes a waterproof case. I put a tissue in my case and submerged in the case and the tissue was completely dry after a few minutes. You can select picture resolution and a number of other options which makes the camera take better pictures. The GoPro is much more expensive than this camera and the quality of the AKASO EK7000 is excellent.
As i bought this item, i wasn’t quite sure if its going to be good or not but the camera is good if you consider the price. the camera didn’t upset me when it arrived. It comes with a lot’s of accessories that can allow you to mount your camera anywhere. However, I wish if the camera the camera could comes with vented helmet strap mount (because the way my helmet is) as it only comes with a straight helmet strap mount. however, the straight helmet strap still did it’s job on my helmet. I was surprised as the camera came with 2 battery and i was really happy about it. in the end, if i be really honest, its a good camera for the price you pay and buying it, is worth of money as the camera quality is good by it self, plus you get everything with the camera to get you started straight away.
Tried this camera as I needed something more reliable for long distance cycling to and from work. The camera is very good quality, easy to use, the water tight casing is a nice feature for the outdoors. The camera pick up night view far better than I imagined.
HOWEVER: please be aware I have discovered my older micro sd card was working with this camera briefly however after 1 day the sd card has now corrupted and I lost some lovely captures on my bike from one day cycling. If you want to buy this camera I would strongly recommend purchasing a 4K capable micro sd card as my older simplified micro sd’s don’t seem to survive very long in this this camera. Something that should be added within the description of this item is recommended micro sd cards.
Apart from this the camera has been extremely good!
So, I thought long and hard about which budget action can to get. I only use action cameras on my bike in case of ‘incidents’, when swimming and as a dash cam when on driving holidays so please bear in mind I do not use this to record adrenaline sports etc.
I weighed up all the features and non-sponsored online reviews – I know other cameras feature EIS which this one doesn’t and take high capacity (64gb and above) memory cards whereas this only takes a 32gb max, but the EIS I have used on other budget cams is awful (unless you dial the resolution right down). If needed, you can use software to remove shake which is arguably the same or better quality than most budget EIS systems.
The key points that swayed me to this were (The Pros)
– Price/Value
– Good waterproof case
– Image quality (I find that 1080/60fps is ideal and records great detail smoothly (eg car number plates))
– Battery Life – completed 2 x 50 minute bike rides on one charge and still had battery left
– 2 x batteries and separate charger included (NB – you may need to reset date/time after each battery change)
– Accessories
The things that made me think twice (The Cons)
– No EIS
– 32gb max memory card capacity
– The 4k setting has a low frame rate and can be blocky (1080/60 is great though)
I too have read the reviews stating that there is a card in the pack asking for a review in return for a free accessory – the card actually asks for an ‘honest’ review not a 5 Star review. Either way, I am not taking part in that as it comes with all the accessories you need anyway so this is NOT a ‘bought’ review.
So there you have it – if you want an action camera that will record extreme sports with the quality and features of a GoPro, then buy a GoPro. If you want a decent budget action camera that can be used on a bike, when swimming or as a dash cam, you can do a lot worse than getting this one.
If my view changes with further use, I will come back and edit my review.
Bought this to use for cycling, paddle boarding and kayaking. So far only used it for cycling and pictures, the other sports will wait till warmer weather.
For the price, this is a good value camera and great gopro alternative – plenty of items in the box such as several different mounts, wrist wrap, wrist remote, spare battery, lens cloth etc.
Picture quality is fairly good as was image stability. There’s inbuilt WiFi and it was easy to set up transferring photos to my phone from the camera. All in all, am very happy with it and can’t wait for better weather to make more use of it.
If you want to use this camera to Vlog on a daily basis then I’d say the quality isn’t great (both picture and audio) and I wouldn’t recommend it. However, if like me you couldn’t justify the cost of a GoPro but wanted to record underwater (with the relevant attachments) then this camera offers exceptional value for money. For ~ 50 I was able to record some amazing memories swimming with dolphins, and avoid the worry/risk of dropping my phone in the sea (if I’d used a waterproof case). Have no idea what I’ll be able to use it for day-to-day, but for the footage on that trip alone it was completely worth it.
Bought for my 8 year old for xmas and so far so good.
When connecting to the app on your phone you have to load it up each time Wayne’s just pairing which is a faff especially when using a gimbal but so far seems alright.
It is a budget camera but seems great so far!
It doesn’t have touch screen as indicated in the review score though?
Used on a bike helmet non-stop from purchase (5 years). Replaced 2 sets of batteries (daily use). Survived hot, cold British weather (on helmet). Waterproof case (replaced ones). Easy to use, easy to start/stop on a go. Dropped few times, still worked after. Reasonable video quality (as an evidence). Used 32 gig memory, enough for a few hours. Epoxy glue (2-part) was best to fix on helmet. PS. After 5 years, Camera just didn’t start one day. Will buy same one as it is easy to use and trustful for many years.
I bought the Akaso GoPro for my son as he has decided to learn how to skate and wanted to record his journey in order to document it on you tube. The packaging was great and the product was well protected. We had a few problems initially mounting the Gopro onto the helmet as it came off. However the order included a second and this latest the full day. I did notice that it did not sit flush to the helmet. Overall my son was really happy, he got some great footage and the picture quality was fantastic. I was also impressed with the price as the GoPro was great value for money. Thank you.
I ordered this product on a Wednesday evening and was given a delivery date of the following Monday. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived on the Friday. The number of accessories packaged with the camera is very impressive and the second battery is definitely a bonus. As it happened I was planning to video a 4km swim in the local river being carried out by my triathlon club the next morning. The club has a GoPro already and one of the other members had another budget brand action camera. We used all three on the morning and got some great shots in the water. The waterproof case definitely protects the camera well and when it accidentally fell off a kayak it just floated there until we retrieved it. It was great to be able to compare the video from the three cameras afterwards. The other budget camera was definitely the poor relation of the three. The pictures were grainy and not particularly clear. The footage from the GoPro was probably marginally better, but only when we played the two videos side by side., which is to be expected considering the GoPro camera cost nearly 10 times more than the Akaso model. I was absolutely delighted with the video from the Akaso camera and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who wants a decent budget action camera.
The quality of the packaging was the first thing that I was impressed by – I was expecting poor, none branded, brown box stuff. It looks way more expensive than it is and it outlines all the key benefits of the product in an easy to read format. Also astonishing for the money, is just how well put together the protective case is – it even comes with a spare back panel (including rubber seal). There are a whole range of accessories which will most certainly allow you to attach this camera to almost anything. The charger fits both batteries for charging at the same time and has charge indicator lights. I have yet to use it in action, so will update when I have, but first impressions are that this is a genuinely good piece of kit for the money and just a fraction of the price of the biggest names brands in this field.
This is an update on this product
I was contacted by a member pf their team who thanked me for the honest feedback and offered to make it right but offered a FREE REPLACEMENT CAMERA or 50% REFUND!!
I took the replace Camera and arrived the next day I was able to test it over the weekend and it works great!
AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE
I wasn’t expecting any response anyway but to get in touch and offer a free replacement or 50% refund! Not many companies would do that these days!!
Thanks Again to Finn Lam from their customers service team to arrange all this without any hassle or hesitation.
The picture quality it great a
Though on 4K it’s seems to goes blurry for a second and back to normal, this happens every once in a while.
The recording of sound quality isn’t as clear as I thought but I’m using it more for the video anyway
The item is light and has good picture quality for the price. It is no Go Pro but you are not paying those prices. Once running it is ok. The battery lasts around an hour when on 1090p. Two batteries supplied so you can do a reasonable bicycle ride for example. One problem there is that when you replace the battery it also resets all the time/date to factory settings, that is ok if the date and time are not essential but using battery time to reset those is a bit of a pain. Another thing to consider is that there is no image stabilisation so it will feel every bump in the road lol. The other main issue for me is that the waterproof case steams up around the camera lens area whilst in use and ruins the quality of the video. It seems to be the same foe summer and winter. I would recommend this as a cheap option that comes with a LOT of ways to affix your camera to helmets, cars, windows, handlebars etc. Not tried the remote control, not even sure what I have done with it! I may even buy a second one! In short, reasonable but with some limitations.
I needed a second camera for my channel and streaming but didn’t want to fork out big money as I had for my main cam. When a friend suggested the AKASO EK7000 4K Sport Action Camera Ultra HD I was sceptical at first but after a week of testing I found it more than adequate for the purposes in mind and it has now become a staple feature in my vids and streams. It might not have all the features of a certain brand but for this price, you are hard pushed to find anything better – highly recommended!
First off when I unpacked the camera, I was impressed at the quality of it. The material and how small it was in my hand. It is a very high quality camera with great display details. I loved the accessories that it came with but thought it lacked explaination as to what was what and I had to find this out in YouTube.
The camera can be connected via an app you can download from the app store in android, but mine failed to connect. I cannot connect it still to this day and trying to find an answer as to why.
I originally purchased this to vlog our Magnet fishing hobby, but as I could not connect it to the app, I’ve been having to use my phone.
The 4k picture quality is excellent. Great imagery and stabilization. You can compare this to a GoPro and it would still be as good as a GoPro.
The remote control works, you can switch it to photo or record mode, but as I said, it cannot connect to the app. That’s the only downfall I face at the moment.
Real shame, this is a brilliant little camera at a great price and if you just want to use it on its own I would highly recommend it.
However I bought this specifically to use with my iphone via the wifi connection so I could view and record what the camera sees on my phone.
Short version, the app is completely useless, the camera constantly disconnects and uses probably the worst file storage and sharing tools I have ever seen. It’s almost impossible to get what little footage you manage to take off the camera to make it usable in standard formats.
Very disappointing.
Update April 2021: As a result of this review the seller contacted me and offered me an upgrade to the newer model at no additional cost.
The new pro version camera addresses all of the issues I experienced with the original unit and is a brilliant piece of kit. The updated app is now much easier to use and allows footage to be downloaded directly to my smart phone photo library for sharing, which is exactly what I wanted.
Really great after sales care, some of the best customer service I have ever experienced.
This is not a 4K camera. It’s a good camera, don’t get me wrong. It shoots at 720p up to 120fps at just over 30,000 kbps bit rate and comes with a great set of accessories for indoor and outdoor use that you may even find useful for use with other items (I repurposed a couple of them as part of my microphone stand). I’m completely happy to have paid 40 for it as an entry-level camera as part of a good package – but it’s nothing more than that, an entry-level camera.
This camera only shoots at 1280x720p. Every resolution higher than that – 1080p, 2.7k, 4k – is just upscaled without only a small increase to bitrate. 1080p as a result looks best because 30,000kbps is enough to sustain that resolution, but the 2.7k and 4k options are nigh pointless. Shoot at the frame rate you’re sure you need, because the bitrate increase is simply not enough to manage great quality 120fps 720p or 60fps 1080p.
It also has remote control support, with a control provided and can be controlled from the Akaso DV Phone App (which makes the camera essentially act as a wifi point for your phone to connect to) to work as a real time preview; the connection isn’t great but it can help you correct your angles. If there is no MicroSD card plugged in, attaching the camera to a computer via data cable makes for a reasonable 720p webcam, although you will need strong or natural lighting on your subject – this was not made for low light conditions. Speaking of MicroSD cards, it only works with MicroSD cards up to a maximum storage size of 64GB.
If you’re looking for an entry level action camera that comes with a great accessory set that could be used for other items, this is a pretty good set to pick up. But it’s exactly that – entry level.
Great little camera, great for fun and for anyone.
Personal use, for security, to adventure with, to show off or show case your life style. It plays and records in good quality 4k. It records sount too but my streaming software does not pick up its microphone. I’ve yet to test if output is even picked up.
This comes with mount set up, lenses cloth cleaner, backup waterproof case, USB, other gear pro’s may or may not use. This camera was made with care. The public is loved by these guys. Everyone enjoy your memories and share them.
Beautiful little gift this is for any age too. I would recomend it for purchase.
Great product bargain price.
Enjoy guys
I ordered this product as I needed a webcam for my Windows 10 PC and had trouble finding one within my budget due to the recent demand. So I decided to get an actioncam instead as these were more available and also give the option of recording outdoor footage. I was slightly concerned by some of the negative reviews but after a couple of days usage I am more than happy for the amount of money I paid.
I tried using it as a webcam straight out of the box, while the batteries were charging and without the SD card fitted – Windows 10 detected easily and it was picked up by the built-in camera app no problem. The native image brightness with indoor lighting was a little low but upon trying it in Zoom, the brightness was automatically adjusted and looked fine. There was no audio but not a problem as I prefer to use a seperate mic anyway. I later tried it with the battery inserted, which charges when connected to USB without having to use the seperate charger.
I trialled it on my bicycle yesterday using the supplied fittings. The fittings work perfectly although they feel like they would snap if over-tightened. Fortunately I was careful. I was aware of the issues around low light and lack of built-in stabilization but these can all be fixed in software later. In decent daylight the quality is fine and I was pleasantly suprised by the stability (no rapid shaking) despite my bicycle having no suspension. The battery life looks ok and has stayed in the green after a couple of short rides. When used inside the waterproof casing the recorded sound sufffered from some very noticeable resononation as there is no external mic – again, fixable using software aftwerwards (notch filter). Agree with a previous comment about the movie size taking up a lot of space; re-saving it in the same codec reduced the file size by about a third. Again, not a massive issue if using a 32Gb SD card and processing it afterwards on the PC. I would highly recommend this product to a PC owner who is looking for a good value dual-purpose webcam/actioncam who won’t be taking it to extremes in terms of resolution/phyiscal handling.
This is my first action-cam, which I picked for capturing my flying lessons following recommendations from aviation forums. Camera serves its primary functionality to all 5 stars by clear picture quality, automatic light exposure, and loud enough voice capture even while mounted on my baseball cap’s bill. Remote start/stop controller is invaluable device too while being in the middle of actions requiring any serous focus.
After trying it during flying lessons for couple of times, I started to invent other usages, like making virtual guided tours to my house and garden, or capturing my piano plays. It proved surprisingly good on stabilizing video image considering the great amount of shaking and vibrations in all those activities.
Now, about the disadvantages causing me to assign 4 stars rating: While the camera is immaculate about its primary functionality, some other auxiliary functions, by which it’s supposed to show off, are not operating very well, being either not developed enough or basically glitchy. So much touted WiFi functionality proved to be not practical, as there’s simply no Android app supporting it seamlessly. Neither native Akaso’s nor recommended in the manual iSmartDV app can make stable connections for file transfers, speed and latency of the connection is surprisingly poor even on next-to-each-other distance, and iSmartDV in general doesn’t support it at all by the author claiming in Google Store that it even wasn’t supposed to. Also, it proved to be impossible to keep mobile phone connected to outside internet while connecting to the camera. In the end, I discovered much better old-good way of connecting it by micro-USB cable and ditch the WiFi function as not really practical.
Another issue is about practicality of 4K highest resolutions: it needs some longer explanation why. The camera encodes surprisingly large files (which later could be re-comressed later on computer by four times smaller with equal quality and resolution). I don’t really need high resolutions (capturing at lowest available is good enough) and I mainly use 5-min lapse video mode while exercising my actions. Even then, each capture segment weighs of about 1Gb. This all would not be a problem if the underlying SD card format would not be FAT system having design limit for 2Gb files. That means, any 10+ min video on lower resolution or even same 5 min segment on just the next resolution won’t fit 2Gb limit, so I’ve already seen people complaining that parts of their recordings silently lost because of that. I wonder how short would be the video in 4K format while suiting the 2Gb limit? I haven’t tried inserting SD cards formatted by Windows using modern NTFS system, however, I know that the camera can only format it in FAT and the manual strictly instruct to format SD card by the camera itself before the first usage. To me, it implied that NTFS isn’t supported and dreadful 2Gb limit is still in place.
Both the CONs are firmware-dependent disadvantages, hence could be fixed in future by firmware update. Should it finally happen, the camera will deserve truly 5 star rating and I’m eagerly waiting for the updates.

Bought becasue its cheap but it is deacent the app is very poor though pity it couldnt be bluetooth connect instead of wifi as cat use data whe its connected .. also issues with viewing the videos you have taken previously through the app in so far as t doesnt work at all. would have been hady to view after a day and free up for the next days or copy to phone etc. it is sturdy though and comes with a few accessories. my case broke on first use but in faairness they sent me a repalcement as soon as i told them. am going away and will use it a bit on the trip and post updated review after.
also a note if you record the same thing on all the different resolutions theres no difference in file size, or very very little from 720p to ”4k”
Needed an action cam for when we are waking in the peaks to record the event. GoPro being an arm and a leg job (I am sure they are great) I wanted one that was affordable for the average person. This one having over 3k reviews and high marks I thought I would give it a go, it was only 31 with a discount code. Well, you get a lot for your money, as you can see in the photo.
The features on the action cam are numerous, ranging from different resolutions for video and photo, sound recording, timer, slowmo, etc. You get clips and holders galore for attaching to just about anything.
You also get a remote control for photo and video control, so you don’t have to fiddle withe the actual camera once you have mounted it. It also comes with a batteries in it.
The camera comes with two 90 minute batteries that are fully charged, so you can get going straight away.
Overall a action cam that is well worth getting for the money.
So far I have to say I’m very impressed with this camera. I have had a cheap action camera before and wasn’t impressed with it, so my hopes weren’t too high for this one, especially as it looked similar to my previous one. My fears were soon subsided though on its first use. I attached it using a RAM mount system to my motorbike for a short run. Whilst the image stability is not as good as a GoPro, at this price point it shouldn’t be expected to be. The picture quality itself was was actually pretty good. I was riding in overcast weather with light rain, but no level of detail on my ride was lost.
All in, for what you pay, and the amount of accessories you get with the camera, it would be really hard not to recommend the camera to anyone who wants an action camera, but doesn’t want to lash out on a GoPro.
My son and I wanted an action camera to record activities on our summer holiday – coasteering, diving, kayaking, go karting etc. A camera with lots of accessories (incl the remote control), not over-priced and easy to set-up and use. The AKASO EK7000 seemed to fit these requirements best.
On recieving the item next-day we were very impressed with the quality of the packaging, extras and the camera itself. It was really easy to set up – superb to have the extra battery and looked just as good as top-end action cameras you can buy.
We were soon using it for cliff diving, underwater action, helmet-based karting and cycling and the quality was superb. Using the iphone app we downloaded the videos (and pictures) and edited them together to share with family and friends.
I would not fail to recommend the AKASO EK7000 to other customers. Its so easy to get up and running, the quality is superb (it takes a 32Gb micro SD for 2.5 hours of video) and has given us hours of action video to record our sporting moments.
I think it’s worth getting this out of the way first: this is not on par with a current-model GoPro. If you expect that, I think you’ll be sorely disappointed. However, that isn’t the point of this camera and I think the price point makes that clear.
So for the camera itself. I am definitely happy with the quality. Whilst the camera does do 4k, I tend to stick to 1080p at 60fps for 720p at 120fps. At 1080p you get a nice picture and 60fps means the footage is smooth and you can even grab frames for photos if you want to. The 720p @ 120fps is great if you want something in slow motion, it is prefect.
Operation of the menu and camera itself is very straight forward, with only four buttons to navigate and select menu options, even in direct sunlight or underwater I have had no issues operating it. One thing that took me a while to get used to is that when the camera goes to sleep, you have to press the button once to wake it and then again to start filming. This caught me out a couple of times because waking it up plays a beep, I wrongly assumed that meant it had started filming. Again, not a massive issue, just something to remember.
Battery life seems very good, I haven’t yet been using the camera during one session long enough for them to run out, as the camera comes with two batteries I tend to swap them when convenient rather than when one runs down too low.
I found that you can’t tell whether the case is on or off, it doesn’t really make a massive difference to the quality of the image. Possibly the colours are a little bit flatter but if they are, not enough to spoil the footage. It does however effect the audio, being that it is more muffled but I would expect this and it’s not ruined, just not crystal clear.
I have one slight comment about the case and that is that the plastic that makes up the lens seems extremely soft. I unfortunately dropped the camera from about 50cm and even though it didn’t land directly on the case lens, it bounced onto it and there’s now a deep scratch. Luckily, it’s out of the vision of the camera lens so it doesn’t actually matter, but something to bear in mind. I think I might see if there’s additional cases available.
The accessories that come with the camera are great, there’s almost everything you need to use the camera in any situation. Although I did also order one of those yellow, floating handles for surfing, coasteering and the like. Literally my only negative about the accessories is that the thumbscrew was so tightly screwed on, I had to use a pair of wrenches to loosen it initially! You can probably see from the photo, it was so tight the plastic had slightly deformed. I assume that they are tightened with a machine for speed and it was just slightly over tightened. Once I got it loose, no problems with the thread, it works perfectly.
I bought this camera with the view that the footage would be “okay”. I got more than that and I’m very happy wit the purchase, to the extent I am strongly considering purchasing a second.
So overall, would I recommend this camera? Yes I would, with a couple of caveats:
1) Don’t expect professional grade footage, that just isn’t fair at this price point
2) This feels more like a “snapshot” quality camera, the kind of thing you might take with you phone’s camera, but underwater. If it was for once-in-a-lifetime memories, I would be investing more money in a different camera. This is perfect for regular events.
I’ll set the scene. It was a bits weekend away… I say boys, more middle aged men still trying to cling on to any semblance of our youth! There was mountain biking, kayaking and surfing planned, amongst the usual shenanigans! This is a yearly quest and only last year my friend invested in a top of a, range Go Pro complete with underwater casing… A fair few quid! However our excitement at being able to produce a ‘Point Break 2’ (kids ask your parents), where I was clearly going to be Patrick Swayze amongst my rotund, man boobed friends ended in disaster with the first wave knocking the Go Pro out of my friend’s hands…. Never to be seen again (well actually probably in a pawn shop in Newquay). Tears were a plenty (laughter obviously), but it was indeed a lesson…… Fast forward to this year’s jolly and I announced I was bringing my own action camera by Asako (more laughing) and at 35 even I thought I may have been diddles. You know those pics of the small cameras, but when it actually arrives its the size of a Warburtons loaf.
I ordered the accessory kit as well, and when it all arrived I instantly went into smug mode. Here was a small camera, of what looked like excellent quality (including the packaging) with every mount possible you could throw at it! If you wanted to strap this to a head of a cat (I would just like to point out to PETA that is not my intent….) then there is a mount there that will enable you to do it!
It even comes supplied with a waterproof housing… For 35!!
A few hours later it had its innaugral testing in the 5ft waves at Harlyn Bay. I had taken the abuse, but was confident in the little cams ability. It was in its housing and attached to a bright yellow “floating” handle and wrist strap. The mockers were now showing a bit of interest!
The first wave almost killed me, as I was setting up the camera. Didn’t see it. I can only liken the experience to what it must be like to be trapped in a washing machine. I was thoroughly expecting to see condensation and water in the casing… But it was bone dry and still recording! I then continued to take video after video and photo after photo on its excellent battery (you get 2!!) and after playing them back on the TV in the bijou caravan that night everyone was taken aback at the quality. The photos look great, and the image quality of the video is even better! There was no mocking then… Only a reaching of phones to place their own order!
Seriously you would spend more money on a decent takeaway so this is a no brainer.
Yes, the stabilisation when on a bike (there was a mount for that too) is probably better on a Go Pro… But this is 35, and possibly one of the best purchases I have ever made!
(No cats have been harmed since the camera arrived, although the Guinea pig cam was a success… There is a Guinea pig mount included)
Lovely dinky camera. Nothing to compare it against but takes nice photos and videos. Came in good condition but when we tried to unscrew the pieces of the mounting on the waterproof case, it took my husband some careful manoevering with a wrench and old cloth but it finally gave way. Looked like the screw casing had been welded to the bit it was screwed into but so far no impact on functionality of the mounting.
Main complaint like all the other reviews is that the instructions aren’t very well written and you have to play around with it to get used to how the functions work. Also buttons on waterproof case need some hard pressing to get them to work. Again I haven’t experienced a waterproof case before so don’t know how it compares. This might prove difficult with those with limited dexterity. The remote wrist watch is a great bonus though and I was impressed that it came with 2 batteries. A nice case/pouch would have been even better but for the price you can’t really complain and the overall end result is as good as those with my camera/phone.
Very happy
I wanted an action camera to take with me on a Red Sea snorkelling holiday so did a lot of research online before finally deciding on one of the Akaso range. The EK7000 seemed to fit the bill so I took the plunge and ordered one, how glad I am that I did! Simple in operation, the Akaso EK7000 has proved to fit my needs perfectly.
I’m really impressed by the quality of both still pictures and video and the remote control wrist band is handy, but would be so much more useful if it were waterproof in my opinion. Also the number of fittings and attachments supplied are enough to get you started on your adventures with a new action camera.
Pros:
Size, quality of build, extra battery, remote control, in-camera features and price.
Cons:
Waterproof remote control would be a benefit.
The Akaso app could be very much better.
It would be useful if the camera remembered the date and time when batteries have to be changed.
All in all I’m extremely happy with my purchase and would recommend the Akaso EK7000 camera to anyone wanting a quality action cam at a very reasonable price.
I bought this camera for my dads buggy and having taken some time whilst batteries charged, I looked at the camera and fitted a SD card and went through the settings menu with ease all was very easy to do…
The only little thing that just needed the lead to the battery charger wiggled because the lights go out and the little wiggled and all is good until i move the charger but i have some leads around so no problems…
The camera and whole package of accesories are well worth the money paid for them…
Purchased this for less than 50 on amazon, product arrived and was immediately impressed with packaging, very upmarket and well presented, looks like a much more expensive product then what it is. Set up was nice and easy, push and record function good, connectivity is very good. Used it at a break dance convention and did the job, my only bug bare is the sound is crap, when filming on a tri-pod on the ground it picks up every bump and scuff and magnitudes it ten fold! Also, when I turn off the camera the date stamp automatically resets to factory setting which is actually bloody annoying. Apart from that it is easy to use, picture quality when filming is good, sound is adequate, ease of use is great, point and record, battery life quite good and automatically comes with two batteries and lots of attachments as standard. I will continue to use and then think about upgrading to its bigger brother. Would recommend to others.
This product is well worth the money, it is exactly the same as a GoPro but for half the price.
The quality is brilliant and it can connect to your mobile/tablet easily, so you don’t even need to download the photos/videos, they just go straight to your phone.
The only thing i would say, is they need to include a detailed user guide because it took me forever trying to work it out and eventually i just googled it!! – Should’ve done that in the first place, it would’ve saved me about an hour!
Nice small compact Action camera comes with a lot of assessories to be attached on it .
My Model doesnt have Image stabilizator so i cannot coment on that how its perform on others models that support it.
Picture quality is good – 4K 25FPS i personaly preffer 1080P – 60FPS .
Sound quality could be better. But as the name itself suggest you buy it for the Action not to record music on it.
Low Light – When is Dark is Dark 😀
Overall Im pleased with this Action Camera its justifying the price .
For an entry level action camera, you’re probably not going to get much better than this. Image quality is good. Don’t expect it to look like a high-end models footage, even at 4K, though. The bitrate and sensor quality play as much a part as the resolution, and being a entry level camera this will obviously not compete, but it does hold it’s own.
Low-light and image stabilisation are surprisingly good — I’ve seen worse on much more expensive cameras. It comes with a good range of attachment, and the ones I’ve tried (the helmet and bar connectors) work well and hold the camera securely.
The only major caveat is that if the battery dies during filming the footage up till that point isn’t stored. Not a major issue, it just means you have to keep an eye on the battery life which can be tricky when using it helmet mounted. Also the batteries themselves are fairly cheap, so while they do seem to preform as described, they don’t hold their charge long while in storage — one of mine had almost drained after a month in storage.
Edited Review….. I received a replacement camera as the previous camera was faulty. Customer service was excellent and I received a replacement at my house within 2 days. The only fault I had with this camera was the audio as the video, build quality and accessories were already superb and far superior to my Go Pro as you’ll see in my original review below. Now that’s true for the audio as well. Audio quality is by far better than my Go Pro indoors, outdoors and at a distance. I use this camera to a professional level in numerous settings. It’s just as good for an interview as it is strapped to a vehicle or used as a family camera. Further to my original review as I’ve used it for a while now I can highlight some more pro’s.
Charging this is a dream as it comes with two batteries. It’s quicker to charge than it is at draining a battery so you’ll always have one ready. It comes with a charger with two battery slots but you can also plug the camera in while you are still using it to charge continuously.
Rear screen. The screen makes it so simple to navigate menu’s, and it’s bright and clear. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve deleted footage from my Go Pro by accident because of the awful menu system. With this camera you can watch playback and delete bad footage thus saving a ton of memory space.
Accessories. You get tons ! Free with the camera. Replacements are also extremely cheap. Not that I needed them, but I’m nosey so I googled them. You can do everything with this camera right out of the box.
Remote with wrist strap. Brilliantly simple and it comes with the camera. Really robust and small enough that you don’t look like a transformer. 2 buttons, start/stop recording, and take a picture, with a light that shows you when you are or aren’t recording. Google the price for a remote for a Go Pro for a good laugh. The range of the remote is a lot further than stated and it still worked over 50 metres away from the camera.
Phone app. Ios and Android. On the Go Pro the phone app is/was the bane of my life as it was the only way to interact with the camera remotely to any moderately successful degree, simply put if I didn’t have my phone and spend eons waiting for it to connect wirelessly, I couldn’t use my camera. The phone app with the Akaso is so much easier to navigate and to be honest the camera, remote, and rear screen are so user friendly, you’ll hardly use it.
It sounds like I’m bashing the Go Pro here but I’m not, my Go Pro is a good camera. But simply put my Akaso EK7000 is better by a mile. Even if they were the same price I’d choose the Akaso in every recording situation I’ve been in. It’s easy to use and simply put, better than the market leader.
Summary : Brilliant robust all round camera. Very worthwhile purchase.
Original Review…
The Akaso EK7000 is bitter sweet. If you want it purely for the video then it’s amazing. So 5 out of 5 purely for the video side of things.
If you want audio as well then it’s simply unusable. I don’t mean a bit bad, I mean the audio is completely distorted in and out of its case. 0 out of 5 for audio.
Pro’s :
You get tons of accessories. (everything in the picture)
Remote control comes with it
Video quality is fantastic. Both 1080p and 4k are awesome
Photos are great quality
Has a rear screen so you can playback your vids or check your shots
battery life is pretty good (about 80 minutes @ 1080p)
Very robust waterproof case with a spare door.
You don’t have to use software to convert the files before you export them like the leading brands
Cons :
Came with two batteries but one was faulty upon arrival
The Audio is bad, I mean absolutely unusable, both in and out of the waterproof case. People have even made youtube videos tearing these down to put in their own microphones. Voices come out purely as distorted static both talking and shouting from a distance or close up. If you’re in a car or on a bike it sounds like it’s going to explode.
Not great in low light.
Summary : Purely as an action cam if you’re going to edit it afterwards and add music it’s amazing. Absolutely horrific audio so can’t be used as a family cam or normal video camera.
I’ve quite fancied a Go Pro camera for quite some time but I’ve always found the cost to be prohibitive. I researched Go Pro alternatives and I couldn’t quite find the sweet spot I was looking for… you generally get what you pay for.
However, this camera ticks all the boxes, but with some caveats.
The positive:
Incredible value for money. You get a LOT here for your cash, including a bunch of go-pro compatible accessories to allow you to mount your camera on a tripod, a cycle helmet, your bike frame, you name it. You get an underwater housing kit as well. The device has been made to copy the look and feel of a real Go Pro so if you already have a Go Pro this is a ridiculously cheap way to get some more accessories for it. And you also get a camera!
Speaking of the camera, it’s small and light, just like a real Go Pro. The battery life is pretty reasonable, plus you get two batteries out of the box, plus a charger.
Image quality is really good. It defaults to 1080p 60fps video – and I recommend you use the camera in this mode. The quality is great. Is it as good as a real Go Pro? Possibly not. But in 1080P mode it’s about 95% there for a fraction of the price.
You also get a wrist-strap that lets you start/stop recording without having to press a button on the camera.
Finally, the camera has Wifi so you can view videos on the device using your mobile phone.
The negative:
There are 2 major negatives with this camera.
1) It’s not an actual 4K camera. Yes, it claims to be, and there’s a big 4K sticker written on the camera but it’s actually a 1080P camera that upscales to 4k. This means you’re just pointlessly making the video files much bigger than they need to be, and you lose the 60fps option too.
Also, the camera reportedly overheats in 4k mode.
One final reason not to use 4k is the fact that the camera uses the Motion Jpeg codec rather than the superior h.264 codec and, to cut out the technicalities for a moment, that’s not good. Stick to 1080P 60fps and you have a great camera.
2) The sound. In the waterproof case the sound is almost unusable, and out of the case it’s not brilliant. It’s usable though, but if you want decent audio then use an external audio device.
Conclusion:
Even despite the camera’s faults, this is still an absolute bargain. If you’re buying this for your kids, or yourself, and if you’re a casual user then this is a no-brainer. Buy it. It’s great value for money.
If you’re a pro, or you want the best, buy a Go Pro. Go Pros have real 4K resolution as well as a near-Raw video style capture and will probably give you less hassle overall. But just ask yourself – is one Go Pro worth three of these?
For something so cheap it is amazing how brilliant the picture is, better yet, it comes with 2 batteries and tons of accessories which is a huge bonus. I use this as a helmet cam for when I’m on my motorcycle and (after a bit of tweaking) it’s perfect, especially since it’s 1/4th the price of a Go-Pro (at time of purchase). Some of the accessories are a bit rubbish and have already broken but there’s so many to chose from you can configure the camera exactly how you’d like in many different ways. Also, the sticky pads that come with the mounts are terrible. they literally fall off. I’d recommend paying 5 for some proper 3M Go-Pro mounts like I did because they stick to anything.

I bought this for an upcoming trip to America and wanted something lightweight, waterproof and durable. A GoPro came to mind straight away, but they’re far too expensive for my budget. A lot of research later I came across this action camera and thought that the reviews sounded great and that for less than 60, it was a bargain!!
It arrived with a load of additional bits and pieces that I haven’t completely worked out yet, but having all the connections in the pack is really useful. The waterproof casing, although it took me a while how to open it :D, is great and really effective. I tried it out just around the house, moving quickly and waving my arm around a bit to see what the camera quality was like in different situations and it was amazing!! I have never had or used a GoPro so I don’t really have the grounds to compare the two, but as a budget alternative, this is great!!
I bought this to upgrade to wifi after using my wifiless SJcam which I have always been happy with. You need the app to connect everything to your phone but it all installed and paired very easy. One tip if like me when I tried to use the wifi option I couldn’t work out how to connect to the camera. Finally I worked out a solution that works for me. I turn on the camera and press the lower of the side buttons this accesses the wifi option. Then on my Samsung phone I switch off the wifi then turn it back on and the camera i now on the wifi.
First try today and the quality of the pictures and sound are excellent for my needs although I mainly use this for static recording. For the price its well worth i
Why spend 350 or more on a GoPro when for around 50 you can get this? OK it doesn’t do everything a GoPro does (image stabilisation, GPS) and the quality may not be quite as good – but it’s certainly better value for money IMHO. I was seriously considering a GoPro but put off by the number of negative comments regarding software freezing and battery life. This little unit performed perfectly in freezing conditions recording over 2.0 hours of footage at 1080p on a single charge (and you get 2 batteries). You can even connect an external battery and run from that if needed. If you need GPS then you can’t have that with this unit but image stabilisation can be applied later using appropriate freely available software. At around 50 there’s very little to loose and I predict most owners will be delighted with their purchase.
I was a little sceptical about how good the EK7000 was actually going to be when compared with the price of the GoPro’s. I read lots of reviews and decided to take the plunge. Comes in really solid packaging and the box contains lots of ‘useful’ accessories. I’ve got a Harley and the handlebars are like scaffolding poles but managed to get the camera easily mounted and went off for a test ride. I was really impressed with the quality of the picture and the sound was OK too (slightly drowned out by the bike, but that’s to be expected…) Only accessory that would complete the ensemble would be a chin mount for a motorcycle helmet, but there are several compatible ones easily available.
Considering how much cheaper than a GoPro, I’m really glad I saved myself over 200 and it comes with 2 batteries and can charge either directly in the camera or the little caddy that it comes with. I also like that you can review videos either on a smartphone (just connect with WiFi) or just plug into a PC and copy the files across. My Akaso will be my regular riding companion from now on. My daughter has also clocked it and will be taking it on her next skiing trip.
I chose camera after reading all the recent informative and positive reviews. I already have an action camera but this one is miles better. I will be giving this one to my son as we have a ski trip in February. Like the fact that it has a remote control in the set as it is easier to switch the camera on without having to fiddle with the camera buttons. Ideal for sking. I am impressed with the quality of the assessories and the fact you get two batteries so no need to worry about running out of battery life, great you can charge two batteries at the same time with the individual charger that comes with it. It would help if I knew what most of the assessories are for but it’s easy to find out online.
After playing around with it for a bit I am very impressed with the functions and the quality of photos and camera footage of the camera so far. Need a bit of time to work out how everything works. it would help to have the full instructions in the box but I supppose we need to save the planet from more paper.
Looking forward to my son trying this out on our Ski trip soon.
Pleasde see my update to this review at the bottom, dates 11/1/2019.
My EK7000 arrived this morning and is out and ready for action.
It came in a neat package with a lot of accessories, which I have yet to delve into.
It is small – 60mm x 40mm x 25mm – black and very neat. It is comfortable to hold and has a textured casing. The outer casing on it when it arrives is the waterproof housing, which seems to be well made with a good tight snap fastening. Nice clear plastic.
The picture quality seems pretty good, though I obviously have yet to put it through its paces.
I have yet to sort out the WiFi connection but apart from that all seems well.
11/1/2019: I’m going to have to add this to my review: –
A problem with the Akaso EK7000 is that the clock and date stamp turn off when you turn the device off. When you turn the device back on the tame will not be updated to the present time but will start at the time when it was previously turned off. Thus if you turn it on at 10:00:10 and off at 10:05:25, the next time you turn it on at say 11:00, the time on the device will say 10:05:26. Thus the time which the recording is given will be wrong, as will all subsequent recordings unless you correct the date and time every time you start a recording! This may not be a critical problem but it is annoying.
This was a Christmas wish by our 12 year old Grandson………….he is over the moon with his present…….it is a sturdy product with user friendly features that even us “oldies” can comprehend. The accessory pack supplements this brilliant little camera with various options for camera use as it can be placed around the body for maximum recording effect. Coupled with the purchased tripod it is a versatile piece of kit that has given one young man all sorts of opportunities to capture his “life’s” events. Well impressed.
Having initially purchased the E7000 as a taster before buying a more ‘established’ action camera brand, I was stunned with how well this performed. With a plethora of different video and picture options (720p to 4k, 25 to 120 fps etc.), this camera covers all the most common recording formats.
The included wrist remote is a nice touch as it lets you point and shoot at exactly what you want straight away. My only gripe is the small lag between pushing the button and the camera actually recording.
I haven’t tried it underwater as yet, but the waterproof casing seems sturdy. Furthermore, the camera comes with every attachment you could possibly need out of the box. I’m using a 64gb SD card with no issues, despite the description noting it only takes up to 32gb. That’s over six hours of recording in 1080/60 mode.
It really is great value for money. If like me you are looking to test the action camera waters, wade no further – this is the camera for you.
Very good value. Material construction is excellent for the price bracket, the video and audio quality is better than I need – around the same as a dashcam or mobile phone. The camera arrives with a generous range of fixing brackets, remote control, two batteries and a charger. It would cost well over 300 for a genuine Go-Pro with these accessories, so the Akaso EK7000 is a bargain for fifty quid. One point of advice – if fitting to a mountain bike or similar, don’t rely on the thumb-knob fasteners alone. After positioning, use a crosshead screwdriver to get them good and tight.
If you have used GoPro and wouldn’t settle for less, don’t buy this product. If you’re on a budget and will settle for less whilst paying a lot less, give this some consideration. I like the remote control to switch on/off video or photo. I like the light weight. I’m OK with the overall quality of videos and stills. I like the bag of goodies that come with it even if most of them will never get used by me as a road cyclist only. I like the inclusion of two batteries and charger.
I don’t like that the in-camera playback (not available on my older GoPro) doesn’t work. Maybe I should have returned the unit but it’s not important enough for that hassle. I don’t like the relatively shorter battery life – quite a lot less than my GoPro. I don’t like the lack of warning that the battery is about to die.
Overall, I don’t regret the purchase; it’s also highlighted what the GoPro range offers. I might start suggesting to my family that I get a new latest spec GoPro with all the toys – gifted to me by them of course.
This will do little justice to what is a fantastic camera for an unbelievable price. The packaging presentation is 10/10, a lot of thought was given to how to present the camera and the huge amount of accessories it comes with. There are around 15 accessories included which rival competitors of this camera would no doubt withhold for extra money. These range from mounts for helmets, battery storage casing, spare waterproof case door, microfibre cleaning cloths, ties, sticker mounts, spare batteries and much more. The footage is incredible and shoots full 4k as well as 1080p and lower modes. There is a wifi remote and strap which means you can start recording the camera on the fly useful if it is in a hard to reach place. There are many more options which I have yet to discover but am anxious to get to. There is little more to say except get yours while you can!
I have used this camera a lot lately for recording DIY projects. I find the image quality excellent, and being a fixed lens device it isn’t always fighting to focus. The microphone is sensitive enough to capture most sounds, even when inside the waterproof case. One battery lasts around 50mins continuous use (I have 4). I did have a problem with the camera freezing on start, which was very annoying – but this was fixed by updating the firmware. The camera looses it’s date/time when replacing the battery. As a work-around, I plug it into a USB power bank when swapping the battery. Comes with useful remote control (stop/start only). Can be connected to an App to review and download footage. Lots of mounts supplied, but haven’t used many of them. Prefer separate gorillapod + pistol grip. 4K isn’t true 4K (it is interpolated) but 1080p is more than adequate for my needs. My only gripe is the UI is a bit clunky, but you get used to it. Camera has lots of features for a low budget. I’m very happy with mine.
When I was browsing for action cameras, I really just wanted two things: a secondary camera to complement my SJ4000 by SJCAM as well as my ZOOM Q8 (which also comes equipped with a 170 lens, to record live shows) but also something that could be used as a webcam to record my drum covers. The AKASO EK7000 seemed to fit the bill.
Mind you that, despite having fixed goals for the kind of gear I wanted to buy, I pretty much bought the AKASO just out of the fact that it was recommended by Amazon and it was well rated. That was enough for me.
Exactly three days after my order I got the AKASO and was excited to try it. Particularly because of a few handy added functions: Wifi for remote viewing with the iPhone, a controller “wrist watch” to snap pictures and take videos (both of these within a reasonable distance), and the fact that it can record up to 4K doesn’t hurt either.
Firstly, I should address the most obvious point before even taking the AKASO out of the box: the box itself. Aside from the graphics, obviously, it completely resembles the GoPro box, which immediately makes it stand out, with the see through walls and beveled edges and the untouched, shiny new camera inside. That’s definitely a plus.
The box also comes with a nice assortment of action cam mounts, also compatible with official GoPro acessories. So if you already own a GoPro, or just because this bundle of camera and accessories is already cheaper than a select few GoPro mounts, you’re already getting a great deal.
And because I’m a bit of mounts nut anyways, I was eager to try something that doesn’t come with any of my aforementioned cameras: the controllable wrist “watch” and the ability to preview my shot through the iPhone. So even before I went into the belly of this tiny beast, that’s the first thing I tried out: remote triggering. And it’s unbelievable how flawlessly it works. You literally just position the camera, put it into video mode, slap that “watch” across your wrist and trigger away. Just beautiful.
It’s also a nice feature that you can trigger a photo even recording video. BUT beware: if you do that, you’re interrupting the video recording, which will require you to press that record button again. So, while useful, it’s something to keep in mind.
Next, I tried the remote preview function with my iPhone and again, works like a charm. You download the recommended app, you turn on the Wifi and immediately, you can see from the camera’s POV. Buffering can take a few seconds to warm up, but after that, it’s pretty much a breeze.
On this note, one thing that I didn’t like and which also reflects on the only real downside of the product as a whole: the navigation. It’s not intuitive AT ALL to turn on your Wifi through pressing the Down button during photo mode. What? Yes, exactly right. There’s a reason settings menus were invented, and that’s where all the major settings should be. If I lose the manual and forget about how to turn on Wifi, it’s going be a while before I remembered how I booted it up in the first place. And this is especially important to note, given that it’s such a big selling point for the AKASO EK7000.
And sometimes, it can just be time-consuming to go through a particular set of functions until you can finally select that “X” button to just close that submenu altogether. So, in short, navigation and function accessibility is something that should be rethought somewhat. Time is something you rarely have when you just want to quickly setup your camera on a skateboard or or an instrument just minutes before playing a show; especially if you have multiple cameras and all the settings must line up.
On the topic of settings and internal functions, despite jumping through some navigational hoops, I found everything I needed for a typical shoot or even just to play around. Timelapse, resolutions up to 4K, beeping, the whole nine yards. And the functions do work and can make for a more creative shoot. However, on the 4K front, I was particularly unimpressed at how the camera stutters if you try to play back what you just shot on-camera. That was a big letdown. Granted, this ISN’T a GoPro and is aimed at the budget-conscious videographer / hobbyist (and with GoPro prices, who isn’t?), but the stuttering just strikes me as something too important to let slide. Fortunately, results are much better when playing the file on the card on a computer, but it’s something that on a 4K-driven world of Youtube and the like, is really worth investing in and producing a higher-end piece of gear, even if at the expense of a couple more dollars. It just has to work properly.
Once I realized the AKASO EK7000 could deliver on a more “physical” front, as far as setting up and recording anything according to my specifications, it was a matter of testing the more “virtual” front and connecting the included USB cable to the computer to test out its webcam capabilities.
Again, navigation and information is a hoop to jump through on this front. Upon connected, the computer will look for a suitable driver and “Connecting” will display on the camera’s screen, even long after the driver was found, the camera is installed and ready to go. This can be annoying. I mean, if it works a USB webcam, how do I activate that function? Well, you press the ON/OFF button for the PC Camera function to pop up. Another driver will install (don’t interrupt that process) and only then is the camera ready for software like OBS Studio and many others which will allow you to broadcast whatever you want through that camera. This little “double-press” thing, again, is avoidable.
As to the camera quality itself while working as a webcam, it’s what you would expect from a camera like this. The movement is reasonably fluid, but the low light capabilities do leave much to be desired. (However, to be fair, a camera only works as well as ambient light will allow it, and you’re not overworking the sensor). But under good light and some fine tuning on a third party software, there’s no reason it shouldn’t reasonably fulfill your expectations.
Despite this, and to summarize, the definition of this type of camera IS Action Camera, and so it was built for movement and being aboard speeding objects. And in the realm where it matters most, it does its job very well and there’s lots to play with, both on the accessories front as well on the functions front, where you can even remote control what you see and how to record for a very affordable price.
It’s a welcome addition in my arsenal.
This is a good versatile camera, I have used it in UK mounted when cycling, used in Egypt Snorkelling, Water parks and in the desert.
Overall A good quality camera for a very reasonable price.
The camera is compact with sharp colours, multiple mounts are proved by the supplier and a handy wrist attachment can be used to record when the camera is mounted on your head or away from reach, only issue is the time stamp resets once the battery is removed.
Colours and lighting:-
Recorded in 1080p and 4k and the quality was exceptional and still photos came out very sharp too.
The colours are sharp with the camera detecting differing light conditions underwater and above water. When going through aqua park slides which are pitch black to the naked eye, the camera is can detect light (and people) and records well.
Works well indoors but better when natural light is available and when outdoors.
Wide angle camera works well, but to get quality close shots, such as marine life, you have to get close to subjects, otherwise human shots are good with colours and capacity good.
Capacity:-
The camera does not come with a micro memory card. The capacity states 64gb, but I used SanDisk Extreme PRO 128G GB microSDXC Memory Card up to 100 MB/s, Class 10, U3, V30, A1. This worked very well. The memory card used makes a big impact on the write ability of the camera. Cheaper cards may not write fast enough resulting in still type shots as opposed to continues frames and picture.
Playback is very good, this is done on the camera or App for the phone.
Sound:-
Sound is very good and clear. The waterproof case did not hinder the sound quality.
Other items:-
Two batteries provided are very handy.
Lots of attachments, making connecting this very easy with online videos providing good guides.
Potential Issues:-
The time stamp is reset once the battery is taken out of the camera to charge in the provided cradle or when replacing the battery, the time stamp requires reconfiguration in the settings menu prior to use.
The camera is not waterproof unless used in the supplied case, which isn’t a problem and all mounts require the case.
Recording for long lengths of time in the desert make the camera warm when in the case (probably understandable).
Great action camera, records in 720 and 1080p at either 30fps or 60fps or can record in 4K, picture quality looks good, comes with a small double battery charger and cable which can be charge by usb and also comes with two batteries which is a bonus as most action cameras come with a single battery, and have to purchase separate batteries extra or a replacement battery. Comes with additional accessories attachments, is WiFi enabled so can contact to mobile phone app. Also comes with a Velcro band with a wireless control for recording video or photos with a press of the button, having tested this option yet for realiabity in use. Great price and a cheaper option than more expensive action camera, great for beginners to using these type of cameras in my opinion, can always upgrade to the go pros and expensive action cams with better features, but with this one if becomes damaged, will be far cheaper in cost to replace .
I’m going travelling to Madagascar soon and I really wanted a hardy little camera to take with me when I’m diving or crossing that insane bridge that I’ve been told about. However, I really didn’t want to spend a hilarious amount for it, I won’t really use it that much to justify the amount GoPros cost.
The camera arrived very quickly, thank you Prime, and although there was a lot of trial and error with how all these accessories worked and how they attached themselves to the camera, I really liked everything about it. It’s super simple to use (if you use it enough to remember what each of the four button does) and I love how I can connect it to my phone!
I tried to take pictures and I took an underwater video, everything worked very well – even when I used the supplied remote control (which looks like a cheap piece of plastic, it still worked great). Good quality of picture – although the sound wasn’t as great, but maybe it’s more because it was underwater, I will keep testing it to make sure!
The only downside that I’ve found is that the battery charger does NOT work by plugging into the mains. I didn’t know and I wondered why after more than 24h, the batteries were still both empty. However, both charged fully within an hour when I plugged into my computer – so if you’re travelling with this and you don’t want to take your computer, buy a portable charger!
Either way, it’s not that expensive and it comes with some great accessories, although I still don’t know how to use the majority of them, so I would definitely recommend this camera!
The picture quality is fantastic!
The range of accessories supplied with the camera is extensive.
the whole set up is great value for money.
The only complaint is that the battery cover design is poor and it broke ( Slightly ) after a couple of uses.
Amazon offered to replace the whole set up but I had already unpacked it all and started using it that wasnt practical. I really think that they should include some spare battery covers to get over the problem
Lets get things straight right from the off, this is no way a GoPro but is still a great little camera for the money. I have just used it on holiday for the first time on a mountain bike, taking pictures via the remote, on the 8mb setting. (Goes upto 12mb) Picture Quality is not bad while viewing on nothing larger than the iPad screen. On your phone or uploaded in Strava they look good. Using the remote and the 3 shot burst option it fired every time. In this situation I would recommend mounting the remote on the handle bars. One thing they could improve is to extend the ‘on’ time to greater than 5 mins before switching off. Other than that you have the ‘off’ option.Annoying not knowing if the camera is off/on when riding a bike, screen is not always visible, especially in bright sunshine. The wifi option worked really well also, I was able to review and download to the iPad camera roll photos that I liked from my trip, you can also use the iPad screen to take the picture or video with.
Found the menu workability a bit annoying, not that intuitive and the up/down buttons when the camera is inside the waterproof casing not always working first time. And you have to press quite hard. Accessories were good lots of different mounting compositions.
Overall for 70 you get pretty good value for money, probably not as robust as a GoPro and picture quality not quite matching, but then you’re no paying 150?
If you have a tight budget and plan to use the camera once a week then this is a good option.
Walks all over Go-Pro! I’ve been using this for a while now and I really love it! I couldn’t bring myself to spend the sort of money Go-Pros are going for. This is great value, great HD image, pretty simple to use and the remote button is great.
Only negatives are it gets pretty hot in its waterproof box, which was causing it to steam up, so I had to take it to the pool (to cool off)
& when in its waterproof case the buttons (because their waterproof) are pretty tough to push, its a lot easier just to pop it out the case!
I also bought the ‘AKASO EDOSE Gopro Accessories Bundle kit’ which is awesome!! together you have everything you could ever need!
Simply WOW. The 2000+ reviews will give you an idea of how good this product is but when it arrived, well packaged, unbelievable amount of mounts and accessories plus two batteries, what more could you ask for. The camera is simple to operate. The picture quality is actually far more impressive than I expected and I cant be happier with this product. If you are thinking about this camera, just buy it, you will not be disappointed..!!
Quite a decent little camera considering the price. I have it mounted to the side of my motorcycle helmet. Was a bit confusing at first to connect enough mount pieces in the right order to get the angle I wanted. Not as simple as taking one mount and slotting it in. Could’ve done with some more 90 mounts so you can mount the camera the right way up. Quality isn’t bad. I’ve kept it on 2.7k at 30fps and it’s clear enough to see most things. Audio isn’t too bad either below 20mph, but it gets noisy at high speeds. Instructions are rather lacking. Also can’t connect it to the app that it supposedly works with, so that sucks. Also rather annoying that I seem to lose my footage whenever the battery dies on me. Then again, most of the time a full charge will last longer than the length of video it can record with the max size of SD card, which is 32gb. Seems to be able to record up to 1hr, 8mins. Bought a pack of hex bolts to replace the cheap feeling hand-twisty bolts just to make the mounts look a little better.
All in all, a great little entry level camera, but don’t expect to go full vlogger with it!
I would have left a review anyway, but enclosed with the camera is an invitation to leave a review and get a “free” accessory. That makes no difference to this review.
It arrived this morning, so I haven’t used it underwater yet, but will in a few weeks. It’s smaller than I imagined as a user of a ‘bridge’ camera – indeed, it’s not much bigger than a matchbox, which is rather cute. Getting it out of the box was the first challenge – but logical when I worked out how. And as a hater of instruction manuals, I had a go at working it without checking … but gave in and checked after finding it capable of various things and not knowing how I had achieved them!
I really like it and can’t wait to play with it for real, soon. I had ordered a micro-SD card after reading other reviews that said it wasn’t included. Glad I did. It fits easily and pops out when pressed down as you’d expect. The screen is neat and the controls are logical and simple once you figure them out. I really like the remote control that comes with it and can see myself making some use of that.
It would also make an amazing ‘spy camera’ if so inclined!
The only thing I haven’t figured out, yet, is the Wifi. I downloaded the App for my iPhone and figured out the Wifi but the camera and my phone don’t want to link together and I can’t see why, other than that the camera wants to hook itself in to the camera’s Wifi through the camera’s Wifi on the phone, without that being an actual network – I’ll try again, from an Android phone sometime and it may work better. It’s not the end of the earth, though, I download to my computer from my ‘bridge’ SD card anyway, so this is not that different. I’ll also check other people’s reviews to see if anyone else has had this, and how they resolved it.
All in all, a very cute little camera for the money. Lots of video options and lots of settings to play with. Neat.
I wanted to get my boyfriend a GoPro for his birthday but was stunned at the prices and thought “there’s got to be other brands out there” anyway after doing loads of research, watching review videos and looking at “Amazon’s choice” I found this and couldn’t believe the value for money. I can’t compare it to the GoPro but other people have online and for me it was a no-brainer. Comes with loads of accessories to get you started and there are loads more available to purchase if you want extra. Can’t wait to take this to Centreparcs this weekend and then on our holidays at the end of the month! It doesn’t come with an SD card but I bought a 64gb one for 4K action cams from curry’s which works great!
I’m still keeping my previous review visible (below) as I think it’s important to get the full facts of the update I am about to give.
The supplier quickly responded to my rant (as you can all see) by giving me the opportunity to take up the warranty. Within a couple of weeks I received a brand new camera and the supplier didn’t even really question me about the old one. Customer Services were/are amazing and I would recommend purchasing from them to anyone.
Now to the camera. I have left my feedback for some time as I was a bit nervous dipping the camera into water to see whether the casing was waterproof. Me being a little slow upstairs, my partner suggested just dipping the case without the camera inside first to see if it works without letting the water in. As things go, so far so good. I haven’t yet taken it into the sea although we are going away again in March and I will be taking my new camera with me. I will provide a further update on my return. I’m holding back giving 5 starts until then.
***UPDATE COMPLETE***
Very disappointed. Although purchased in June 2017, to spread the cost, I purchased this camera to take with me on holiday to Jamaica this year (March 2018) to film my first time snorkelling. Up until the point of taking it in water it worked fine. I placed it in the waterproof container and sealed it shut. Took it into the sea with me and as soon as the ‘ON’ button was pressed we noticed bubbles coming from the case and water entering it. We quickly got it out of water but by this time it was too late. The camera was soaked and failed to work again. My partner tested the case alone only to find that he On/Off button was in fact the cause of the case leaking. My camera is now ruined and I have no footage of my experience during my holiday of a lifetime. Very upset.
I have always wanted an action camera, however wasn’t sure which one to get. I nearly went for a Go-Pro, however, the price tag on them can be disconcerting to say the least. Having discovered the AKASO EK7000, I was astonished at the 4K resolution, for such a good price, with similar quality to a Go-Pro, for a fraction of the price.
The camera arrives with a multitude of different mounts and brackets, as well as a plastic protective casing. The camera is fairly easy to operate, both with the casing on or off, however, I utilised YouTube to help with this, simply searching the camera make and model and there were helpful videos explaining how to operate the camera and an explanation of the mounts and brackets included.
Having recently gone skiing, the camera provided a unique angle to capture memories for the holiday. I used the camera with a chest mount (sold separately), which recorded some great video footage of not only myself skiing, but other people on the trip. The camera is easily detachable from mounts, whilst remaining sturdy and in place when bracketed on. I didn’t use the photo mode on the camera, as I bought the camera for videoing and take photos using my phone instead, so am unable to discuss this.
Looking back at the video footage, the quality is amazing. It definitely brought a unique angle to record and make memories on the holiday.
I used a 32GB Micro SD Card (sold separately), which gave approximately 1 hour and 8 minutes recording time. It is difficult to talk about the battery life, as the first time I used the camera was when skiing, in cold temperatures. Cold temperature has an effect on Lithium Ion batteries, so it would be unfair to discuss battery life. However, the camera has two batteries included, as well as a handy small charger, so if need be, a battery can be replaced or charged with a portable batter charger (sold separately), whilst out and about.
I found however, that I only turned the camera on when I wanted to use it, in order to save battery and footage and it lasted the time we were skiing. After skiing, I would simply charge the batteries at the hotel and transferred the footage from the 32GB Micro SD Card (sold separately) off of the camera to a computer.
In conclusion, I definitely recommend this camera, for both the price and the quality of footage.
Love it!
Used in anger on a skiing holiday this month and I’m really impressed with the results. Battery life isn’t brilliant at minus 8degrees but that is to be expected (about 1hr 10m recording at 30fps/1080p)
I got about 90 mins from a full battery in warmer (18 degs) temperatures
Picture quality is sharp and judder free. Absolutely excellent for the price.
Great product very easy to use basically idiot proof features that I really like are the wristband remote I like this and find out it extremely convenient also the WiFi connectivity I’ve peared it with my Samsung 6s mobile phone and it works like a charm to be fair you don’t even need an institution manual well I didn’t but overall apart from having to charge the item when I received it it was ready to go straight out of the box….
I love this thing. I’d thought about getting an action cam for a long time, but the thought of spending hundreds on a Go Pro was stopping me. For the price this thing is incredible. Great picture, good quality camera and superb accessories. I’ve used it as a dashcam on a drive and I’m looking forward to getting out on the bike on long summer evenings. This little thing will go everywhere with us now
Very happy with this camera. I used it for a skiing holiday and the accessories all fit perfectly with the helmet I was wearing. I still need to figure out what all of the accessories do but having so many must have saved me a small fortune (as did the camera itself) against the market leader.
Having a wristband/control is great, the batteries lasted a decent amount of time even in the cold weather and everyone is very impressed with the picture and video quality.
I wasn’t expecting there to be an App, it’s a nice addition but could do with some improvements.
I’m looking forward to taking this on a summer holiday and seeing how it works for Surfing and Scuba Diving next.
All in all a very happy customer.
Like many other people I’ve often thought about buying an action camera as I do a lot of cycling, walking, surfing etc. but couldn’t justify the cost of a Go Pro and thought cheaper alternatives would be poor quality. However, last week I eventually took a chance on the Akaso 4K Ultra HD camera and wish I had done so years ago – it really is unbelievably good value. The photos are clear and the video is smooth. The camera’s functions all work perfectly and the accessories kit is comprehensive. If you’re considering a camera of this type, you’ll have no regrets with this one – it’s a great toy!
I bought this to save zillions on the GOPRO equivalent. Reading the reviews of so many action cameras this seemed to be the best of the cheapies. It seems to do what it says on the tin. Yep – it all works fine. I give 4 stars because my eyes are not the best (age related!) so the tiny font on the instruction book is almost illegible for me (ye you can read it on line but hey…). Also the gizmos included for attaching the camera to other objects (eg helmets) is not explained at all.
Okay, so I wouldn’t normally write a review, however this product is actually worth it, and there is also an incentive in the box.
So, I’m a week in and have tested the product and am so far very impressed. I haven’t ever owned a GoPro, but it’s hard to see what could be significantly better for the price difference.
User interface is relatively intuitive and you get used to it quickly. WiFi connectivity to the app and the wristband is a really nice touch and extremely useful when filming with the camera in an inaccessible place or, you want to stop/start recording quickly.
The variety of camera modes, including time lapse is a feature I didn’t buy it for, but one which will actually be useful.
Battery life seems pretty good so far and it’s a reasonable charge time. As there are 2, it should be okay though unless you want to film constantly in the wilderness!
It does come with a variety of attachments, and whilst useful, they’re not the things that you’d really want so I’ll be looking for more mounting accessories.
Overall though, I’m impressed for the price – time will tell on reliability and longer term build quality.
Lovely wee action camera at a great price. I’d been looking at proper go pro’s but so glad I didn’t waste my money. This does everything you want and you get a few different mounts with it along with the waterproof case. I’m planning on using it to go skiing. Seen other people’s vids in their review and it looks perfect. Comes with a remote control as well. Simple to use but watch the online video on YouTube about it if you need any extra help.
I’ve been looking for a decent starter sport cam for a while, it came a day after ordering so plus point straight away. Packaging very good, looks like a quality item even before you open it up.
Plenty of accessories and feels good in the hand, takes a lovely photo and quality of video all I could ask for. Time will tell about durability but all good to start with.
Took recently to use in Egypt and the results were fantastic! Colors were great and battery lasted the day! Recommended!
I’ve been wanting an action camera for ages but wasn’t willing to pay the prices required for the top end ones. I also wasn’t willing to sacrifice video quality either, so I just ended up not bothering.
Then I saw this one and the reviews it was getting.
Its superb.
I have been using it for both a Motorcycle helmet cam as well as a drone cam. In both uses it was been flawless. The image quality is excellent and it is able to keep up with my motorcycle riding without becoming juttery or skipping frames.
It’s also the exact same size as the market leading action cameras so will fit nicely into all of the same accessories.
It comes with a load of attachements as well as two batteries so you shouldn’t need to buy anything else to get started.
If you’re wanting an action camera with nearly all of the features yet only a fraction of the price of the market leaders, then this is the one for you. I can’t recommend it enough!
As title says, I was very sceptical about this action camera. It’s one of them items that seems to be too cheap for what it is offering (in comparison with the GoPros competitor at 350+).
After the many reviews I read it seems most of the negative ones were based around freezing / lagging or the 4k video not working at all. So I looked into this further and it seemed most of these were based on the ‘wrong’ micro SD card inserted. Now I did already have one of these ‘wrong’ SD cards so I bought the camera and tested it with my 16GB micro SD (which wasn’t category 10 rated). As I suspected the 4k, 2k and 1080p (60fps) video didn’t work, in fact I couldn’t even select it, the low quality videos worked and the pictures but none of the said worked and even the EZicam app you can install didn’t work to its full potential.
So following the findings above, I bought the 32GB Micro SD car Sandisc cat 10 which arrived the next day. I inserted this card and everything now worked, perfect, no lagging issues could select all modes, so far so good.
Now before I went on my walk I wanted to see how I could mount it on me with one of the many mounts supplied in the box, however when you’re not great at DIY like me, I wasn’t quite sure what I was meant to be doing with any of them. After about 5 mins I managed to put a couple of these mounts together and then just clip it on to my jacket. The Camera also comes with a remote and some Velcro attachments, so I put the remote on my wrist like a watch.
So I finally put the camera to the test (recording/taking photos via the remote on my wrist which didn’t need any set up and worked very well), I took it out for over an hour walk taking pictures, videos in different quality levels, light levels etc until the battery finally died. It took roughly an hour I would say in constant use for the battery to die, however you are given two batteries with this camera and you also can charge it whilst in use, so if you have a portable charger it’s not too much of a problem.
After transferring the pictures and videos from my camera to my phone through the EZicam app which isn’t the best app, actually it’s a terrible app, however it does transfer the files to my phone which is all I really wanted and needed it for. I was worried at first as when I looked at a couple of videos via the app, the audio was awful, however when you watch it on your phone it is all fine!
So after looking at the videos and pictures on my phone I could tell the photo quality even on the small screen on my phone wasn’t great however the videos seemed to be really good. I then transferred these onto my PC and as suspected the photo quality was poor, OKish in a well-lit place in the open, and terrible in dark places. This is definitely not a 12MP camera, if I was to guess I would say it would be a 3MP max, I’m not quite sure how they can get away with advertising 12MP, I think they must upscale the picture. However saying this some of the pictures were OK, but If you have bought a mobile phone within the last 3-4 years your photo quality will almost definitely exceed the action cam one.
In better news, the videos were good, they are all recorded as “.Mov” files, which is annoying as it’s not the best format and not supported by all, however I was pleasantly surprised by the quality for the price I paid, again the 4k isn’t 4k but it is decent and I wouldn’t say there is a massive difference between the 1080p(60fps) to the 4k so for the extra memory I will now just use the 1080p, unless I have a very short clip I want in the very best quality I can get. You get around 3 hours of recording space on the 32GB micro SD with the 1080p, again FYI the audio doesn’t work over whatsapp if you were to send videos via there, but do work if you view on your phone gallery.
The Actioncam its self is small and light, and built ok, I wouldn’t think it is the sturdiest of cameras and would be worried about dropping it if it didn’t have a case. However, when the waterproof case is on it (which I have yet to test in water) it seems more solid and compact.
Generally speaking I am happy so far with my purchase, however it only has been couple of days and will update my review in a few months.
Summary:
Overall very good, photo quality is poor, video quality is good and audio is good. You need to ensure you have a cat10 32gb or LESS micro SD card to use the camera, the app which you can download to transfer your files is very poor but you can just use the micro SD directly (quicker also). Not the most user friendly at start and there are always little issues you seem to come across, but easy to pick up, comes with lots of mounts etc, but no instructions and how or where to use.
For someone like me who is just going to use it occasionally well worth the money.
What a great little camera! Excellent resolution, remote control, and works well with the app. Comes so many different attachments you can fix this any where. You may benefit from the accessories pack it comes with the yellow handle which will keep it afloat if you let go in the sea. I took mine to Corfu and got great shots of the kids in the pool and fish while snorkelling. My wife also got great footage of her paragliding! Buy one now.
Purchased this to take on a family holiday where I was expecting to be in the water and if it got broken or stolen I would not have been too upset based on the cost.
I did not have high hopes based on the price, however I was very surprised by the quality of both the video and the photos. You do not have a zoom but all I wanted was to be able to capture reasonable images and videos with something I could stick in my pocket. This more than exceeded expectations overall.
Battery life was not an issue for me but I was only taking short videos (In sea, on boats, tree surfing etc) and never got concerned, the spare battery out of the box did not charge but after a couple of goes worked and was fine.
Took me a little while to use the connection from my phone but once i realised it was as simple as turn on the wifi on the camera, connect to it on your phone (you need the app), default password for me was 1234567890, then I was easily able to download pictures and videos to my phone and upload to whatsapp/facebook etc after i reconnected to a different wifi
Accessories were good for swimming etc, have yet to use on bike etc, I have also just purchased an accessories pack for head straps and sticks, I am not normally bothered by getting lots of pictures and videos but I felt this was non obtrusive to carry around and did a good enough job. Once I saw the 4k quality on your PC and not just the screen on the unit I was impressed.
Not the easiest gadget I have used but after a bit of trial and error it was soon easy to use. I would recommend spending time learning switching between video (default) to camera and learning how to get media onto your phone before you go on holiday if you are getting one just for a trip
I have nothing bad to say about it other than it did take a bit of getting used too, I found the user guide not particularly helpful but started me off
I will use it again and family enjoyed messing about with it too
I have a uploaded on picture and a short video taken just holding the camera
Overall if you are thinking of getting one and do not want to spend the earth I would recommend this product (and I paid the full amount for it)
Updated: Noticed the video quality is dreadful on this site, the actual quality on playback on your own PC or phone is excelle
Camera itself works well, the lens distortion is a little more than i would like towards the edges, but given the price and the FOV I can leave with it.
It struggles if there is contrast between light and dark in the scene you are shooting resulting in blown out highlights. If the scene is evenly lit, then the video is perfectly usable.
The WiFi works well with an iPhone, with the odd drop out of signal but nothing too bad.
The built in screen is useful and gives a good indication of what to expect from the final results.
Navigating menus and settings is a little cumbersome, but once you get used to it, it is fine and you can hang things with very little effort.
The supplied accessories all work well, and there is a good variety in the box, the only one I don’t really like is the wrist remote control but that’s not really the end of the world, especially if using WiFi to connect from your phone anyway.
Pros:
* Price
* Amount of supplied accessories
* Good quality video
* Easy to use
*Cons:
* a little bit of distortion towards the very edges of video
* The supplied wrist remote control
After my go pro took a dive into a lake without the float on (kids). Thought i would give this one ago. Wish i had spent 300 pounds less and got it first. Great little camera I can not tell the difference yet. Only had it a couple of days but a lot easier to use plus you get a bag of goodies too. So yes get this one don’t spend out on the go pro. Jo
For the price and size of the camera, the quality is superb and far outweighs my expectations. So much so I am getting ready to buy another for a family member . If you want a cheap camera that shoots in 4K and comes with a host of accesories including a waterproof case and tripo mount, you really cant go wrong with the Akaso EK7000!
Decided to purchase the AKASO EK7000 4K Sport Action camera on the basis of the many review and YouTube vids. To be honest I was sceptical that something under 60 could return such good video reviews. I take a lot of HD video on Lumix bridge cameras for which the quality is excellent and I’m quite critical of anything that doesn’t come up to my expectations. However, having taken some test shots I am more that pleasantly surprised at the quality of the 1080/60 video delivered from this tiny camera. It’s not as good as Lumix but then what can you expect for >60!! It’s very useable video and certainly for what I bought it for it is brilliant for the money. I’m not able to directly compare to say a GoPro but I’m happy with the results. Unfortunately the 4K and 2.7K video is not as good and I did get some File Errors and freezing of the camera. If you stick to 1080/60 you’ll be fine and that’s what I mainly shoot in so no real issue but would have been nice to have useable 4K video. Not as good in low light but then I expect most of my action shots will be in the summer sun!
Camera is easy to operate and settings can be adjusted from the menu.
Other plus points are the attachments that come with the camera which should cover a lot of common situations for an action camera. There are loads of other alternatives available should you need them. I particularly like the remote wristband which takes photos and videos at touch of the button, plus it’s waterproof (great when fishing or snorkelling.
If you are looking for an action camera to take with you on your adventures and don’t have the money to splash out on an expensive alternative this little camera is well worth looking at so long as you don’t expect too much from the 4K and are happy with HD quality.
The AKASO EK7000 4K Sport Action Camera is an inexpensive camera in the style of a GoPro. It’s great value, but don’t kid yourself you are looking at a GoPro clone – you’re not. It’s superb value for the money, and for less than 60 it’s worth a punt if you need a backup.
My sports are scuba diving and road cycling. I already have a GoPro Hero4, which is a great camera, but I wanted a backup. For diving, the EK7000 will point back at me and my buddy whilst we dive; on the bike, it will point backwards from the saddle to give a rear view. I have no doubt it will be fine for these tasks.
Having tried the camera out, I found the 1080/60 setting to be the sharpest of the options available. Image quality is good, and nice smooth moves worked really well. The sensor picked out detail both indoors and out, and colours were pretty realistic. The 2k7 images were OK, but didn’t seem any sharper. This lead me to wonder whether some upscaling was going on inside the camera. 4k was big, but not really so sharp – what do you expect for the money? You’re hardly likely to buy all the editing gear for 4k and then use a cheap camera, after all.
The menu system on the camera offers basic control. There are a reasonable number of settings, but these are limited in scope; this isn’t a bad thing and reduces complexity for non-technical users. Just don’t expect Protune or similar. The Android App is pretty good, and allows control and preview remotely. The bundled remote is a handy tool, allowing simple control. Be aware it’s only splashproof.
The camera comes with many mounts, straps, tethers and so on, giving a lot of versatility for first time users. The bike mount is comical, use it at your peril, but there are many useful items and they are compatible with the GoPro mount system. I liked the clip to attach the open frame to a strap – that looks like a useful one. Just always use a separate tether – you will not notice a missing camera until it’s too late. I know – another of my GoPros is somewhere in the Med.
So, don’t expect the world, but fantastic value for 57.
EDIT: I just came back from scuba diving, where I took the EK7000 and my GoPro with me on every dive, down to 30m. The Akaso worked really well, providing a great backup. It suffered from not having the red filter I fitted to the GoPro, but the video was fine. It performed equally well on the bike I rented, providing some great downhill action.
I have already bought these type of sports cameras and they are brilliant for my sport activities. I have used this action camera for riding bike and this was an excellent experience. This is for security purposes because if you are riding a bike in the London you got to have a camera on your head so that it could capture all the incidents and anything which can save your life physically and financially.
Box included, 1x AKASO EK7000 Camera, 1x 2.4G Remote Control, 2x 1050mAh Battery, 1x Waterproof Case, 1x Bicycle Stand, 7x Mount, 2x Clip, 1x Helmet Mounts, 1x Bandages, 5x Tethers, 1 x Protective Backdoor, 1x USB Cable, 1x Lens Cloth & 1x Manual. I love the fact that it comes with spare battery which is very rare.
With bicycle bracket, it can be attached to your bike’s handle too and with helmet mounting kit, you can stick it to your helmet without any problem. I am using it on my helmet because it is more convenient to capture everything with the movement of your head. Additionally, with different support switches, you can use it anywhere, e.g. on selfie stick. It can also be attached to your trouser, jacket or on your belt with the help of back clip.
The beauty of this product is that it comes with a remote which is really great feature for this product and my favorite one. You can record and stop via remote by just clicking one button. Even you can switch from video to photo burst with just one click which is great.
it supports 4K video which is really amazing and remarkable. If you want to enjoy 4K video, then you must have 32GB or 64GB TF card so that you could save as many videos as you want otherwise you have to delete them after couple of days in order to save more. It depends how much you are using it, I am using it on daily basis so therefore I have to clean my card after every 3 to 4 days.
It has 12 mega pixel cameras which is really amazing and I loved it, it also provides different photography options. I liked the fact that it has HDMI HD output function which is really great and gives freedom to play it on your any device which support HDMI HD option. I loved that it comes with the waterproof plastic cover which is really good quality. You can open it and take the camera out for recharging or for transferring the data. It’s cover has buttons so you don’t have to take the camera out to operate it. It has switch on button on the front, two up and down buttons at the side and then charging connector and SD card slot.
I found really unique feature in this camera that it supports wifi and you can connect it with you mobile and you can play the video on your mobile which is really cool feature I believe. Also, it has really wide angle about 170 degrees which is again really good and covers a decent area in front of you. The only downside of this product is that when you ride and it is inside the plastic cover, mic does not really pick up clear voice, it is still understandable but slightly weak voice. Overall this product is really good and I would not hesitate in recommending this item to anyone.
