I am a newbie to 3D printing and after watching hundreds of 3D printer reviews on YouTube, I plumped for jumping in at the deep end and purchased this machine. rather than buy a ‘lower entry’ machine and ‘work my way up’. If you watch enough videos, you can learn a lot and can skip messing about with the ‘small fry’. I ordered my Max on a Friday afternoon, and it was delivered on the following Monday. It came in a VERY sturdy, large and thick cardboard box which was reinforced on the inside with a metal ‘cage’. This cage was tightly packed with expanded plastic foam and he machine itself was ‘suspended’ within that foam. Unless the cardboard box is very badly damaged, the machine can’t possibly be damaged. It’s heavy. It’s 25kg IIRC. You wouldn’t want to have to carry it very far, or lift it very high. But it’s a good size, and will afford you large prints. I like the fact that the entire front half of the cover comes off to give easy access to the entire machine. Everything is ‘chunky’ and well made and the printer is very easy to use. It’s pretty quiet when printing, with the only noise being the raising and lowering of the build plate – a kind of a satisfied ‘hmmmm’ and a ‘whir’. The fans are barely noticeable. If it was in my bedroom it wouldn’t wake me up if it were suddenly to start printing of its own accord My prints have all come out perfect, including ones I’ve designed myself. The ‘auto-fill’ device for topping up the resin in the tank is a fantastic addition. Now for the ‘niggles’: If you let the ‘spare’ bottle empty of resin mid-print, you can’t reset the ‘auto-fill’ to work again. You have to add resin to the tank manually. So DON’T LET THE SPARE BOTTLE EMPTY! You CAN change the spare bottle if it runs low, DURING a print, by pausing the print and swapping in a fresh bottle. Attaching the rear cover to the base of the machine is extremely difficult. The screws supplied are very poor and almost impossible to locate in their respective threads. You try poking 3mm long countersunk screws with flat ‘points’ through 3mm of metal and plastic and getting them to locate in the threads! I tried and tried again, eventually loosening off the brackets on the machine, and managed to get just 2 of the 8 in! In the end I purchased some better quality 3mm screws on Amazon and I had all 8 fitted in less than a minute. I have rigged myself up an extraction fan and ducting to take fumes away out through a vent in the wall and all is excellent! I’m hoping to be able to sort any future ‘issues’ out myself though.
Be sure to get the photocuring too. Also make sure to buy lubricant so it doesnt stick to the tray. Love the print jobs. Made some nice mini dice rollers and minis.
Okay, first thing first – build quality and the materials used are the highest quality, sturdy and durable.
Print quality is awesome too, I wasn’t expecting it to be this good 2K display does its magic, printing every small detail precisely, without needing any additional polishing afterwards.
Only downside is FEP film, which came with the printer. I clean it everytime I finish printing, but after about 7x print, it became unusable – cured print stays on the film, failing every print tried every known method, but cured object still sticks on a film and the only option is to change the film with the new one.
So, if you’re considering buying the 3D printer, consider additional FEP films too, it might save your print/day
I own the Photon S and when the Mono SE came out I snatched it up. I love both printers.
The Mono SE is by far the superior printer. I can’t get over how fast it prints! The print quality is amazing. I’ve had zero print failures so far. I attached a bunch of photos. You can see the quality. It has a nice sleek design, and is so quiet it can fit in any room. (Resin smell has nothing to do with the printer itself… :))
As far as ease fo use, I had experience with the Photon S so learning this printer was a breeze.
I tried many diferent types of resin and has zero issues (Elegoo, Sainsmart, Anycubic, etc)
I’m planning on buying another one in the near future, this printer is amazing.
If you are looking for a Resin printer as a first timer, or experienced used this is the one for you!
.
The Anycubic Photon SE is an amazing resin printer! I had it for a couple of weeks, and I never had to level it since the first day. It’s very precise with its dual Z-axis and never had a layer shift. The printer is build heavy duty; all the metal makes it sit solidly on my table. I already printed over 20 prints of everything from porcupine to giraffes and jewelry hearts. I’m amazed with the details of the prints and I had no fail prints.
I’m a long time FDM 3d printer user who always have to make sure the filament does not get jammed or run out; the resin printing is much easier.
When I first started, I printed very small objects for jewelry and found out the prints were so brittle that they broke when removing the objects from the build plate. Then I bought the Anycubic’s Craftsman Resin and the prints come out so much better; they are not brittle and are flexible enough to not break when removing the prints from the build plate. Additionally, the resin has hardly any fumes, and that was a big plus for me! I will definitely recommend Anycubic’s Craftsman Resin to anyone.
ONLY THING THAT MADE THIS 3D Printer Great for a BEGINNER.Is the machine setup & doing the 1st Test Print included on the machines firmware!!! After that it’s A VERY CHALLENGING PROCESS WITH A VERY STEEP LEARNING CURVE!!! For a ROOKIE-GREENHORN -Someone like me who knew ZERO about anything to do with 3D printing!!!
U WILL NEED TO PURCHASE RESIN!!! NOT INCLUDED WITH THE MACHINE. I won’t get into the Steep Learning Curve stuff, as IMO & EVERY BUYERS OPINION & RATING is 5!!! After U learn the process of finding objects you would like to print & then running them through a software that helps you turn your Cool Model or Object into a file that can be placed on a Date Drive & inserted into the printer & MAGICALLY MAKE THE OBJECT IN A FEW HOURS!!! Be prepared for MANY HOURS OF LEARNING PROCESS. EXCELLENT MACHINE!!!
This printer is pretty awesome. It plugs in and works instantly. You find a file you like online and you open it in the app, add supports (which is super easy) and then print it. Since the files save on the thumb drive, you don’t have to have it near your computer. I am going to eventually get a wash and cure station to go along with it!
This really is a great product and I have zero experience with these things
First thing I noticed was the packaging. It was packaged very well. It had Styrofoam around all the glass parts and secured everything nicely. The assembly was very easy. Just a few screws and knobs to install. It came with filters, a plastic scraper, gloves, and hex tools to assemble everything.
I searched youtube ahead of time for the leveling of the plate and how to use my new 3d printer in general. I bought some Gray resin to go with it. I was able to print on the first try and have been printing since. I decided to not use the software that came with it after reading some different opinions. I am using CHITUBOX 64. It seems to work a little better with supports when needed. I have printed some minis and one larger dice tower. The detail is amazing on all the prints. Check out the attached pictures. I am using Anycubic Craftsman Resin Grey.
Only downside I noticed was how loud the fan is. I am sure it needs to be powerful to keep the LCD cool. It’s not really a problem unless you are sleeping next to it while it’s printing.
Overall, I would highly recommend this resin printer for anyone starting out with 3d printing. High detail and very easy to use.
I had a business doing hand casting resin statues for a bunch of years. Making molds, doing pours, and multiple runs with only 1 master copy was tough to do. Got into SLA 3d printing, and chose to go with the PHOTON. Initially I had issues with it, but the technical service agent, while having a minor language barrier at times, were absolutely fantastic. The machine was previously used by another person, and returned for undisclosed reasons. After doing some trouble-shooting, we discovered the film was an issue, and the LCD screen was having errors due to an over-burnt area. Replacement parts were sent to me, and once I fixed it, It printed wonderfully. There is a learning curve to these machines and how to align models and support them, but once done right, the prints were really really good. Though basic, the included slicer software is easy to use. If they come out with a much bigger machine, I would really consider buying another from ANYCUBIC. 🙂
I’ve had my fdm printer for over a year and have definitely enjoyed it! This is my first resin printer and wow what a difference in detail! The quality that this thing can produce amazes me! It is also super easy to use and level and definitely a lot faster printing multiple parts at once compared to fdm! I would definitely recommend this printer to anyone looking to get a resin printer!
This is the first print I have ever bought. The price is what original drew me towards the print. I didn’t know much at the time and deiced to start with a budget item. The quality of the prints far surpassed what I original expected and the easy of cleaning surprised me.
My only complaint is the Photon Model editing software that the manufacture provides for free down load. Yes, it is a free product, but its a little unstable and its simple functions leave a lot to be wanted. However, the makers of this software are constantly working to improve its use and if your reading this review in the future note the date of this review.
My printer did need an update but after that, it worked great! I was able to make models of D&D figures for my son and he loves them. Once you get the hang of converting models you find online, it’s a very easy process to use the printer. The size of things you can print is small but this printer is great for beginners and opens the door to 3D printing for anyone. I’m excited to learn more and print really cool stuff.
Adding this creative tool to my workshop has been the best choice. It was very easy to set up and get running. The software is very user friendly and was easy to get my first prints underway. Doesn’t take up a lot of table space so it was easy to fit it in my shop limited work space. Its also quite quiet and doesnt make a lot of sound. Print quality is excellent, consistent, and provides the detail i would expect. I would absolutely recommend this printer.
Recently upgraded to the Mono SE from an older 3D printer, and having resin cure times around 2 seconds or less, and the dual rails make for a great upgrade. Still cheaper then a lot of the resin printers I’ve looked at, and with amazing quality, at 0.05mm or 0.025 (the two settings I’ve used). The Mono SE has a bigger touch screen then other models, and an easier to use/read menu.
The printer comes with plastic covers on the the inside, and I thought about leaving them for a cooler look, but I just really enjoy watching my prints print! Steel body, and the same design I loved in the original Photon! This is a no brainer upgrade.
I’m a big fan of this printer. I started my 3D printing journey with a Photon S, so my experience is largely compared to that printer. Don’t get me wrong, the S was a great starting point, but now having some experience under my belt, the Mono SE is definitely worth the extra cost. It is super fast in print times, cutting them down at least by half. Also, it seems both the odor of resin during printing and also the noise are greatly diminished. I’m using the same resin as before, so I have to credit the Mono SE for the odor reduction, which is a much appreciated and unexpected feature. And the noise level being lower is a nice benefit as well. I can’t tell yet how much improvement I have on print quality, but it is at least as good as the S and appears to be quite a bit better with the limited prints I’ve run so far. Also, I prefer Chitubox as my slicer for the time being, and as of now updating that slicer makes it compatible with the Mono SE which I know was an issue previously stated in other reviews. Consider that problem solved. Time to set up was under 30 minutes and I did leave some of the window cover films in place to limit ambient UV light entry as much as possible. Basically, I love this printer and am so happy for my purchase.
Overall, what can I say except I love this little printer. It’s got all of the detail I needed to print out incredibly detailed minis, and I’m glad that I finally got my hands on it.
While I did encounter a few issues upon initial setup, Anycubic’s customer support was incredibly helpful in resolving each of my questions, and even sent me out a replacement FEP film, as the one I had was knocked around a bit in transit. For a product this expensive it should be expected, but the great support I received has me confident that if I encounter any issues down the line, I will be assisted in short order.
I was super nervous as this is my very first 3D printer of any kind, but so far it is an awesome experience! The printer was easy to set up and worked perfectly out of the box. You definitely want to be careful setting it up and read the manual that comes on the included USB stick, but maybe 20 minutes later I went from unpacking it to starting my first test print. The 2K print quality is amazing – it’s capable of some incredibly detailed and complex prints, and the touch screen UI is intuitive and easy to use (I figured out much of it without even having to refer to the manual). The machine runs quietly and I didn’t have to make any modifications to get it up and running (I know for some other brands, you have to do things like sand the build plate or things like that) – just assemble, pour resin, and go. Super excited to use this machine for many more prints!
This little beauty of a printer blew me away, well worth the money I spent. I cane to this from an Ender 3…which is a lot of fun but a less polished experience. First of all, the software and interface is easy to use, calibration is a breeze with the single set screw. Compared to leveling an entire print bed this is simple as can be. Noise level…super quiet. The build quality is surprisingly great with every piece machined from aluminum. Having a touch screen with a easy to read menu is a real plus too. Print quality is light years past my old printer, smooth and hyper detailed. I definitely recommend giving this unit a try it is far less daunting than the “kit” printers out there. For detailed scenery and miniatures you really cannot go wrong with this little beast. These lovely prints I made are from the excellent Patreon Mini Monster Mayhem, absolutely top notch stuff.
This printer is fantastic. I finally decided to get myself a resin printer and the Anycubic Photon SE was the best choice for me. Solid construction, large build volume, quick operation, an improved uv light matrix, and a long lasting mono LCD were all big, big reasons I chose to go with this model. I have been using it extensively for the last two weeks and I love it. The quality of the prints it produces are spectacular.
I love this printer, from when I first received it I was very impressed. I love the all aluminum body. Very nicely package and was very easy too set up. I’ve been using the printer to make rc car parts, such as spoliers and other body details. The printer produces very clean prints and hasn’t given me any issues.
I bought the Mono SE as an upgrade from my original Photon, and I am extremely pleased that I did. It seems to have kept the best parts of the original Photon, and fixed a few of the drawbacks.
Pros
Durable metallic casing
Removable exhaust panel
Exceptional print quality
Bigger touch screen
Much easier to level
Dual Z-axis screws
Blazing speed
Lemme just talk about the speed for a second. I was doing 12 second layer exposures with my original Photon. This unit is running optimally at 1.5 second layers. It’s unreal. Prints that took hours previously now take minutes. It’s not white Star Trek replicator speed but it feels close.
The cons are pretty much the same as any other resin printer. It can be messy, a little smelly, and the part cleaning can be a little labor intensive. But that’s just part of the hobby.
I bought this printer because I already have an Anycubic Photon and am very happy with it but I wanted a mono screen printer to get better detailed prints. This printer does not disappoint when it comes to that! I’ve been getting amazing details that I was not seeing on the original printer!! The Photon Mono SE came packaged very well and arrived in 4 days with Prime shipping. I test printed the REMF file in about an hour and it printed great, so I then printed the Anycubic test print, also with great success. I am currently printing an unreleased model with a lot of detail so I will update my review with more photos once that has been finished and painted. I am amazed at how quiet this printer is! There are 2 fans inside to help remove the resin odor, which, I don’t smell any resin odor so they must do a great job. You would think that with two fans and a z-axis moving up and down that the printer would be noisy, but it’s so quiet, I literally heard nothing with the door closed to the room that it was in. I can’t say enough good things about this printer. I can’t recommend it highly enough. If you are looking for a great budget printer, look no further. This is the one to get!
Great printer! Fast, and when I say fast I mean it. Used a resin that I used in the past at 60sec bottom layer and 8sec on other layers. On the se I was able to run it atv40 sec bottom layers and 1.5-sec on other layers. I looove this printer and am a loyal anycubic customer. Always great customer service.
I am not new to 3d printing. In fact I own 8 resin printers, and I’ve got to say this is an awesome machine!
Its so fast compared to my regular photons!!!! Makes prints that normally take about 10-12hours and can get them done in less than 4 hours!!!!!
Quality is awesome, dual linear rails is a huge plus too!
Set up was stupid easy, build plate is amazing compared to the photon.
This thing is like the speed of the mono x, but the size of the regular photon.
So itsnlike the photon and the mono x had a baby…this is what they birthed….and its AWESOME!!!!!!
Great for pros and beginners!
5 s from me!!!!
This is my first resin printer and I love it! With that being said, I purchased on a referral from a friend of mine. The printer arrived the next day. Within about 30 minutes of unboxing the printer, I had everything assembled (very minimal amount of assembly needed), the bed leveled, and was printing the test print. 3 1/2 hours later, my first printer was completed! This was extremely gratifying being my first experience with a resin printer.
The build quality of the printer itself is something that is very impressive to me. It’s compact and built like a tank. No element of this printer feels like it’s flimsy, which is gratifying when you are spending the money on something you hope to be of good quality. So A+ there 🙂
The LCD screen and the menu system is pretty straight forward. I like how it give a little demo of what the item is you’re printing, right on the screen! Super cool I’m use to the Ender 3 Pro and only see a name for the file. The Photon SE gives you the name of the file you’re printing and a little image to go along with it. Super cool!
Over all, I have no complaints. I’ve done 2 prints and I have a whole lot more waiting to be printer 🙂
Highly suggest this to anyone looking for a resin printer!
Once tuned this printer performs greatly! Highly advise that all read the manual off the USB as the quickstart guide misses a detail here and there.
Build quality of the printer is great and robust. Wifi app works well, but it would be nice to be able to load files via wifi.
Highly recommend this to any person in the market for a affordable resin printer. Just look at the detail in the models in my pics.
I got the Mono SE printer to run alongside an Photon S that I also have. I used Chitubox’s default settings for the Mono SE, which had the curing time per layer at 1.5s … I knew the Mono printers cured faster but I honestly had my doubts it would cure that fast. It printed in 1/3 of the time that my Photon S took for the same print. My first print came out amazing (photo shows it finished printing, will try to add one later of it cleaned, but it looks great!) — also the levelling is SO EASY! You loosen the screw and hit the home button, and it puts the build plate in place, but pushes down on this rod the plate is attached too, so you don’t have to do near as much work levelling as I did on my Photon S. I got it levelled in about 1 minute!!
I own a few printers from this company and this new one has really improved. I liked them before but this is a big step up. No skipped layers and the print time is much faster. Details are crisp and sharp. I’m already using it to produce for my art work. High enough standards for professional use. Highly recommend! A really great printer for a really great price!
So this is my second printer – I started with the Photon S and upgraded to the SE for the new monochrome screens. The idea is a black and white screen lets more light through at a time so your resin cures faster. This is absolutely correct! Your exposure times will be about a third, though depending on raise and lower times this means your speed increase is closer to double rather than triple.
Another benefit is the increased build area – I can fit more tiny models like this armored car, or fit bigger models I couldn’t even attempt on the old S.
Important starting tips: Do your level first and do it correctly and you should never have to level again.
Be careful with the metal scraper – its razor sharp and can gouge your plate if you’re not careful!
There are good models for nailing down your exposure times. Learn to use them!
I’ve used multiple FDM printers before and recently worked with an Anycubic Photon. I knew I had to get my hands on the latest Anycubic resin printer to make my more intricate pieces and I am not disappointed AT ALL. This printer is SO QUIET. See the video I attached. You have to turn the volume up just to hear the motors over the already very quiet fan. This printer gave me great prints right away. I just took the printer out of the box, leveled the bed by following the instructions, and got to printing. Super easy! The rails make the bed movements very sturdy and accurate. I am also attaching some pics of the pieces I printed already. I can’t wait to start designing and printing my miniatures. 10 out of 10 Highly Recommend
This is the second resin printer I’ve purchased from Anycubic. I also own the Photon Mono X, which is quite a bit bigger. I bought this one to print the smaller components and smaller projects I want done while the bigger one is working.
Pros:
– Delivery was exceptionally quick and well protected.
– Fast and very easy setup, was good to in about 30 mins, including leveling it trying my first test print with it
– Prints are extremely consistent, out of the 10 prints I’ve done so far, only 1 misprint and that was human error.
– It’s a very fast printer, I was impressed.
Cons:
– The door hinges on it seem a little flimsy, it could use something to keep it from going back too quickly.
I would highly recommend this printer for anyone looking to get into resin printing for the first time or Pros that just want a solid Resin printer.
I have been working with filament and resin printers for a couple of years now.
A couple of avenues that I have been wanting to work towards is getting good fidelity in print and speed up the process of production prints for larger items.
The Mono SE has filled both of these checkboxes. The resolution of the Mono SE has allowed me to start manufacturing Makers Marks as part of my business. Previous photon’s were close, but the Mono has the resolution I needed to make a quality production stamp for leather.
As for production prints, I took one of my leather stamp holders that I produce using filament and put it through the Mono SE. Not only did it come out as a perfect print without lines or artifacts, but took 6 hours off of the print time. The produced part looks like an injected molded piece as opposed to a 3d print.
This is important to me as getting an injected molded part would cost me thousands of dollars to get tooled before a part was even made.
And then there is Mini’s. I have a photon and, while it is great, it is completely blown out of the water by the Mono Se. Even with a magnifier, I cannot see print lines or artifacts that say “This was 3d printed”. The quality is direct comparable to a poured resin mold and the speed difference means I can pump more through it in a day.
All in all, this is the 3d printer I need to make my business profitable. 5 out of 5 stars.
I have worked with FDM printers before, but this is my first UV Resin printer. I am very impressed and highly recommend this one as a starting point to learn with.
The product came well packaged and in excellent condition. It was also very easy to assemble and get to a usable state (took me about 30-45 minutes, taking my time figuring it all out). The print times appear to be very reasonable (I do not have a good comparison point for this because my FDM printer would still take longer than this for an equivalent print).
Print quality was amazing (the cloudiness in the picture is more me not being used to working with the materials in post production, because there’s still clear parts in it).
I have training resources, but I wanted to stick to only the provided documentation, which was exactly enough to get up and running. The print flier was clear and easy to understand to this point. Additional documentation is on the included flash drive (personally, I think this is a better option for manually loading prints, compared to SD memory cards).
Only thing I still need to work through is getting the wifi/mobile connectivity figured out (the app is a direct download from their site, not the droid/apple store). The app is slick, but I can’t pair the machine in. I can’t get the printer to log into the wifi (the manual on the flash drive doesn’t provide enough help).
Personal recommendation: the demo print looks better in clear.
Also: Remember to order resin. Printer does not include a starter bottle.
Got this for myself to print jewelry and miniatures and I must say I love it so far. My hubby used to print them on his original one but takes forever compared to this one. Works perfectly and the prints are absolutely gorgeous. Going to save up for a second one to just keep this one for casting resin and the other for just miniature figures. One thing i would like to see is the platform knob be made from all steel like the original photon but besides that, I love i
