This hub makes a solid connection to my 2.4 gHz WiFi network and provides good coverage.
Most (and so far for me, all) Aqara smart items bridged through it can be addressed in HomeAssistant through the HomeKit integration. No need to bother with Matter – unless you want to. The IR blaster, however, only functions with the phone app and does not expose paired items with HomeAssistant – and that it’s only minus in my opinion. However, as I view the IR blaster as a nice bonus, and not core to the product I didn’t dock the item a star in my rating. However, if the IR blaster were to be exposed – now, that would be something special!
Devices are easy to set up and this hub performs a good as advertised. It’s price point makes it a good choice for any home wanting to add good Zigbee coverage for the Aqara ecosystem. Nice.
Also, note that I run this hub alongside another Zigbee coordinator (a USB stick) and both networks function without issue even though my 2.4 gHz spectrum is pretty saturated with competing networks. Again, nice!
Absoluter Pluspunkt.
Product works great and was easy to install. I purchased a model from a different manufacturer and it worked OK but the range was very limited. My house isn’t all that large but it didn’t quite cut it/ I replaced it with this Aqara and WOW! Easily had the ranged I needed. Set up was a breeze and very intuitive. Yes, the previous one I purchased was less expensive but unusable for the job I needed it for. Highly recommend. At this point I am not sure about the battery life as the batteries that came with the 3 sensors are still working and show full charge. This item requires no batteries.
Sicuramente consigliato rispetto agli altri hub Aqara
This was a breeze to install and configure. The instructions were clear, the device UI is well thought out, and it was updated to be Matter compatible shortly after I purchased.
I initially bought it to manage Aqara’s excellent door sensors (my young child had a habit of trying to sneak out the house) but have added water and movement sensors which all integrate beautifully with the Amazon ecosystem, though I’m planning to switch to home assistant.
In any case, the only shortcoming is that Aqara’s zigbee implementation is proprietary and thus I can’t use this with other zigbee devices. Not a huge deal as USB dongles are getting rather inexpensive and feature rich.
I bought this device to pair with my new Aqara smart lock, Has worked well. I haven’t set up the built in IR blaster yet but plan to do so with our electric fireplace so I can build some automations around it.
This is a combo review with the Aqara u100 smart lock. This took me hours to set up. I bought the Aqara Smart Hub and Aqara u100 smart lock together. The lock was easy to install onto the door and paired up to the app so fast. I got HomeKit connected to the lock with no problems. I could NOT get the hub to connect to HomeKit. This took me such a long time to figure out. Turns out, you need to have your Apple hub set up and turned on. The documentation didn’t say this and the Home and Aqara apps did not say to do this. I had no idea until hours of attempts. Make sure HomeKit hub is turned on and Home is set up. Connect the lock through the Apple Home app. Download Aqara app and go into settings, HomeKit, and bind the hub to the aqara app. Then you can start tweaking the settings to get the home app integration set up. You can unlock your door with password, fingerprint, hard key, NFC, via app, widget, or other assistants. This is amazing stuff! I’m transitioning from Yale x Nest which is awful. I would unlock the door and it would immediately notify me that no one is home and tells me to lock the door… It would tell me the door was unlocked when I’m staring at a locked door. The lock would get jammed constantly but ONLY when unlocking with the app after manually locking the door from the inside. Something about the knob causes a jam. This is a widely known issue with Yale x Nest owners and none of the fixes work.
As with a lot of mini USB ports it broke off the board soon after using it. I did buy a replacement but it is cheaply made. Exercise caution when plugging in the USB.
This is a fully featured entry door lock. The ability to use fingerprint entry capability and attach to apple key makes it easy to enter, especially when you have packages. The two things that I don’t like is that you have to buy a hub to get it WiFi enabled and I have had it less than two weeks and it is already telling me that the batteries need to be replaced. It might be that the break in and setup used a lot of battery and possibly the connection to the hub but either way this is very concerning. It has nice features but battery life is a real concern.
As far as zigbee hubs go, it does exactly what you want…feels like a raspberry pi in a fancy case, but it does exactly what’s needed…sit there and does the job!
Despite reviews stating that the hub doesn’t work with Home Assistant, it does. using the Homekit Controller integration. I used a wired connection to the hub, it was detected by HA, the id needed to be entered using the 8 digits on the label on the base in the format XXXXXXXX, not as indicated by HA. It now works with HA and the Android phone app.
I have recently had to install a large medical fridge into my home, and said fridge has to be kept within a set temperature range to facilitate the safe storage of the specialist medication.
I wanted something that would measure the temperature of the fridge, which there are endless simple low cost options, but wanted something that would allow me to review the fridge temperature from anywhere in my home, and more importantly when I am outside. I needed the ability for the device to alert me should the fridge fall outside of the set temperature.
I was surprised at how few solutions existed, there are many devices that can do this and have a control panel on the fridge that you can read, and that sounds an alert locally, but I wanted more than this.
I wanted a solution that would measure the temperature; give me the ability to check the temperature from my phone where ever I am, inside or outside; be able to send alerts to my phone; and be able to integrate with my existing Apple HomeKit environment.
I couldn’t find anything explicit for my needs, there were some that would use bluetooth for local messages, many explicit described as for room temperature devices with local alerts, but couldn’t see a solution that said explicitly that it can be used inside a fridge.
After some googling I found people had used Aqara room temperature sensor inside a fridge with success. In theory I’d found a device that hit my needs.
I purchased the Aqara Temperature Sensor and the Aqara Hub M2, you must purchase the hub to use the sensor. And both had super quick delivery.
These devices were so so easy to setup, no technical skills needed whatsoever, really was impressed at how easy it was.
I have the hub directly connected to my router by ethernet and have both stored in a separate room of the house to the fridges location, it connects fine between the hub and sensor. The hub can also be connected by wifi.
Please note that the hub doesn’t come with a power plug, all you have is a USB to USB Micro cable. You will need to have a power adaptor, like the ones that come with your mobile, 5v needed. If you have a spare USB port then one would imagine you can connect directly to that spare port.
The sensor is very small and I have stuck it inside the fridge using the sticky pads that were supplied.
Aqara has its own application that you download for free from the App Store, and the apps plays nice with Apple HomeKit.
The automation was easy to setup and I can now receive alerts regarding the fridge directly to my mobile, giving me the nerve settling solution that I wanted.
Highly recommend these devices, it ticks all of the boxes that I need, and doesn’t cost the earth.
Eve Energy, Homematic IP, Tado usw…
* Warum Aqara? Und was dahinter steckt.
Was nun?
Easy set up that allows over 130’aqara child devices to connect. Will also be soon matter enabled and allows devices to be seen by Alexa, HomeKit and google home, with SmartThings integration on the way.
It was easy to install and pair.
It offers infrared control too but not sure how useful it is.
I think it is overpriced for what it is but at the end is another hub you need if you want to use Aqara stuff.
I’m not sure why others have mentioned that’s it’s difficult to setup and configure because I had it up and running in about 2 minutes and had linked my motorised blinds (Roller Shade Driver E1) and set a schedule for them in about 5 minutes and I’ve never used such a device before. I am however very ‘tech-savey’ so maybe it’s just easy for me.
I’ll update if any issues occur, but for now – excellent.
Only had the M2 for a few days and it’s doing a good job so far. The accessories attached to hub work with Alexa no problem after installing the skill in Alexa. Security system is working ok at the moment. No false alarms yet. Only downside as has already been mentioned is the alarm on the hub is poor. Good enough if your in the same room, bedroom in my case. which I am as we use the security system mostly at night doors/windows opening motion etc. all good so far.
I am really happy that I can finally use an EU version. All my existing sensors, wall switches, buttons, curtains, relay module work as before, since all of them are zigbee (no wifi with China region). Unfortunately I have two China wifi sockets that don’t work, but I can buy the EU versions. For now works well with Apple homekit. With Aqara app I have all necessary from Mi home app (automations). I can even see more extras for example for the Motion sensors. You can specify the exact brightness level in the automations.
A lot of limitations on homekit mode, a lot of feature is require to use Aqara home. However in Aqara home it only has full function by connect to china server. So that it is recommended to install the Aqara App to understand it’s ability before purchase.
I use this with Aqara door sensors and was surprised by the range. Covers a 6K sq ft house over 3 floors.
Had some initial problem linking device to the. Device works OK with google home although it’s a bit sad that sensor metrics are not exposed to Google Home directly.
Please be advised that advertisement is a bit misleading and the device CANNOT act as a smart speaker.
The setup was extremely easy and the integration into my home is pretty flawless; however, every once in a while, the shortcuts fail due to the fact that the app has logged me out. I need to open the app, log in and then the shortcuts will work again. Not the end of the world, but slightly annoying.
The hub is good but it isn’t loud enough when the alarm is triggered. I doubt burglars will care if the dog barking sounds are so muffled and low. I wish they can integrate it with alexa devices since their speakers are way louder or give the option to have a louder speaker for security.
Still working with this product. Will not wake up android phone when door is opened or closed. Trying to figure out that problem.
The Aqara M2 hub is perfect, with a very good signal range. unfortunately the built-in speaker with it’s very low (tinny sound) is absolutely unfitting for its purpose. The remote control function is great and the learning function is a great feature, however you can’t control your remote control device via the Alexa/goodle integration. I’m currently using the cube to control my devices, until the integration is added. “Hopefully” works perfectly with: Alexa, Google, and Home assistant via HomeKit.
This the basis for Aqara to integrate with GreenMi or XiaoMi devices. Not all of them are available in US. At least, it is working with door and leak sensor.
I am very happy with Aqara Products. This hub has been a great extension to my older existing Aqara hub. Super easy to set up.
I bought this for the IR control, controlling an IR fan, and leak detectors I put under every sink in my house. $18 each worth the price to let me know their is a leak happening that I ordinary might not know about until it became a much bigger problem. once you buy this hub all the sensors are very affordable and integrate great with my HomeKit. I am very happy with this hub and the sensors I have purchased!
The hub seems to work well with the sensors, I’m using it in Homekit which exposes it as a security system with 4 modes (pictured) you have to set up each mode in the aqara app but can trigger other accessories in Homekit when the alarm sounds. The siren is very quiet on the hub so would definitely need additional speakers using an automation – I used a HomePod mini with a siren sound effect I found on Apple Music. My other complaint is that my sensors are already showing at about 70% in Homekit when I’ve only had it around a month. I would recommend this hub to users who want more affordable sensors than other brands especially if using Homekit. The downside is that it is a extra hub to add to your network.
I really wanted the benefit of having a smart garage. This hub allowed me to do it. Works great and now I have motion-activated lights and remote switch triggers for my woodworking tools. It can become pricy for adding ALL the accessories but it’s saving me time, adding convenience, and also needed to track some power consumption and the Aqara products allowed me to do it all.
I’ve been using Aqara devices in my HomeKit setup for years. The original wireless hub was always dropping connection. And I have a very robust Ubiquiti home network with over 100 clients. And the Aqara wireless hub was the only thing that gave me issues.
When this hub became available, i purchased day 1. I’m using a poe to USB adapter to power it and it’s been flawless since setting it up.
Aqara continues to deliver reliable, snappy fast devices!
I am using this as a communication hub for monitoring temperature/humidity sensors. Setup is a breeze. Has good range. The app is very well done, better than using HomeKit as the Agara app has more functionality (like history of readings). But it does work fine with HomeKit if you want to go that route. What I really needed was the reliability of ethernet, which this hub has. Great product at a good price point.
Signal strength to all my “child” devices has greatly increased so reliability has increased. For HomeKit it adds more security modes. I recommend this over and over!
I’ve had the “regular” Aqara M1 smart hub as the base for my Aqara smart home system for awhile now, and everything has been great. When this newer M2 hub was finally officially available in the U.S. market, I ordered one because it had one feature I really prefer when it comes to HomeKit hubs – that is, a wired network option. When the M2 hub arrived I was pleased to see that it was about as compact as the M1/M1s hubs – slightly larger in diameter but about 1/3 thinner in thickness. Adding it to my HomeKit setup took less than 30 seconds with the Aqara app, and in no time I had the M2 ready for service. However, when it came time to configuration it took some work.
Since I intended on using the M2 as my new main hub, one thing I found a little annoying was that there was no way to manually select which smart hub to connect to for each Aqara accessory (I actually have 3 hubs total in my household spread out for good coverage). Because of this, I had to delete and re-add each Aqara accessory back into the Aqara app to bind them to the new M2 hub. This was a slightly tedious process because I currently have over 20 different accessories; however this gave me the opportunity to rebind each device to the hub with the best connection (as opposed to having all of the Aqara devices bound to one single hub). This let me take advantage of having multiple hubs for good signal for all of the Aqara accessories.
Just like with the M1 and M1S hubs, once you have the Aqara devices bound to a hub in the Aqara app, you can then switch over to the Apple Home app for main controls. So far everything seems to be working as intended, though I have yet to try the integrated IR function of the M2 hub.
A couple other things of note: first, you get a micro USB cable in the box, but no power supply; I simply used an extra USb charger from one of my iPhones as the power supply and it works fine. Second, the speaker in the M2 hub is not as loud as the M1/M1S hubs. I’m pretty sure this has a lot to do with the design: the M1/M1S hubs are mounted usually in a wall socket, with the unobstructed speaker holes facing outward; however with the M2, since it’s designed to sit on a flat surface, the speaker holes are around the base of the M2, aimed straight down at the table (or shelf, where I have mine). Fortunately as I mentioned earlier, I have more than one huib as part of my HomeKit setup and thankfully when you install the M2, all of the other M1/M1S hubs are synced with it, so if you turn the alarm function on the M2 to alert, all of my Aqara hubs will also make the same alert.
So okay – the M2 is slightly more expensive than the M1/M1S, but you get LAN connectivity, you no longer need to find an open wall outlet (the M1/M1S hubs will block both wall plugs where you install them), and it has an IR function. Aside from everything I just said, the M2 is still a good choice to get your smart home started! Even if you’re not starting from scratch, I would say that the M2 hub is also a good addition to an already established Aqara smart home system.
Nice Aqara hub. It has 4 security modes in Aqara app and HomeKit home app. You can add ir remotes such as TVs radios etc . You can connect it with Ethernet cable. The only thing is that the security siren is very low volume and it didn’t have a light on it. You can hear it with difficulty!!
