I have had this machine for three and a half months and very pleased with performance so far.
I already had a hot water dispenser, bought nearly three years ago, though that dispensed water manually – that is there was no way to control the amount of water other than by switching on or off. I also had a water chiller with a reasonably large capacity, which took up kitchen worktop space.
The Aqua Optima provides for both, although not as large a capacity. However having the hot and chill functions in one dispenser reduces kitchen ‘clutter’. Added to that the ability to control temperature of the hot water and the actual amount of either of hot or chilled water is exactly what is required. The chilled water does not have any way to change the temperature – it is chilled and is relative to ambient temperature. It is just fine for me at the temperature dispensed, though it does take a round 40 minutes to chill the water if replenishing a completely empty water tank/reservoir. Not a problem if you keep water levels from draining totally to empty.
As with all things the longevity of the dispenser will only be know from time elapsed. So far, so good.
I had this for a few days, initial thoughts:
– Water taste is ok, i’m not that picky if i’m honest, but my gf is and she is happy with it.
-It’s a bit noisy when freezing the water (stops after a bit) but it’s a humming noise, similar to a dyson fan, or a PC fan on high.
-The beeping noise was driving me insane, but yeah RTFM and press temp down + vol up in lock mode.
-The lock was also annoying me quite a bit, but again RTFM and press temp up + vol down in lock mode to turn off (some reviews are saying if you turn the machine off the lock will be re-anabled, didnt try this).
-IF you are planning on taking off the bucket and filling it under a sink, keep in mind that it’s pretty high and it may not fit under your sink (like mine) but I just fill it in with a jug
(added screenshot of power usage in W)
What a great product. You can choose the temperature of the hot water and the cold water is really cold. The filter keeps the water tasting lovely. We bought ours to reduce the amount of plastic bottles we were using, particularly the water bottles, and therefore we are using less plastic.
It’s great for making a cup of tea in an instant. No waiting for the kettle to boil!
The filter lasts a long time!
I would highly recommend this product.
Absolutely, love this water tank & so pleased to have thrown the kettle away. This is so much safer than lifting a heavy kettle with boiled water with my arthritic hands & so much quicker too. Would definitely recommend!
This item does great cups Tea and coffee and dose great chilled drinks to
Nice looking machine to use but water slow coming ou
Easy to use and we get a lot of use out of it in my office. So far been great. Good value for money.
This is perfect for instant hot or cold water, and the filtering works well too. No longer need the kettle and only use the power to boil what is needed.
Used this continuously for 4 months now, it’s great when I’m working at home. Recently had a problem with the heater/boiler stopping working but Strix customer service had a new one out to me next day, no hassle at all.
Highly recommended
I am Sight impaired so no more overflowing cups of hot water as adjustments allows cups to be filled perfectly, just press the button. Excellent tasting water compared to my tap water.
Excellent hot and cold water dispenser the only minor flaw I would say is the water dribbles out! but overall well value for money! fantastic dispense
Read mixed reviews but decided to try for myself. I have to say it has exceeded my expectations. It’s easy to use, chilled water is chilled, hot water is HOT. Dispenses easily and the water tastes fresh and crisp. I’m in a hard water area and for the first time I can properly taste the full flavour of my coffee. I hardly ever write reviews but this was worthy of one
For making tea it’s great so much flavour hardly have to use any milk the downside is the cold water is not very cold !
Lovely product only fault is the hot water speed it’s very slow on dispensing
This is just perfect for me and my family. Easy to use and great looking.
I love the taste of filtered water and this has it all in one package.
Great item does exactly what it is intended for cold and ho
Its been a month we have using it . It has amazing features and very easy to use. Love it and hopefully it will last a long time.
Easy to use with good safety features. Makes great cup of tea. After sales ser ice is excellent.
Love the product bit expensive but it works brilliant. It has a large water capacity which helps and does cups in various amounts. For someone who suffers with arthritis and has trouble lifting its very handy and so easy to use
Bought this after 2 Morphy Richards hit water dispensers tasted absolutely awful and chemically, returned them as faulty and chose this instead. It’s worlds apart and we love it. It does have some negatives I won’t lie but they are easily ignored for the benefits.
Pros:
Immediate hot and cold filtered water. Yes it is immediate, press a button and straight away a hot brew is done. The 1l easily does a pan for veg to save gas heating cold water on the hob, so double efficiency savings. The cold water isn’t fridge cold but it is definately chilled and leaves a bottled water taste, we don’t buy bottled water anymore for in the car – another saving. You dont need to faff around measuring your cups, you can press the button to stop water flow when ever you like and it’s not much of a hassle as it’s quite a slow pour your not dicing with hot water mess if you look away for a few seconds. You have a child lock which is a pro for us but also will be in the cons list. It holds a nice amount of water to stop constant refilling (this does come with a small but…)
Cons:
The child lock, can be a bit of a pain to keep unlocking, not always the most sensitive of buttons. Good if your a child touching something you shouldn’t be but bad if your a half asleep grown desperately needing coffee before your school run with fat fingers (yes husband I’m looking at you) and feel that swearing at it will help to unlock it. You can turn the child lock off though which stays off unless you turn it off at the wall. The water tank with the filter in will only fill half if your in a rush. If you fill that filter tank and wait for that to filter and fill it again you can get the max water store but it does need some patience. The water delivery is quite slow, I like this for a brew but a little tedious waiting for 1l for a pan. I usually set it going and do my chopping whilst it fills the pan, saves time hanging around in a busy kitchen. It’s not the smallest or prettiest but we couldn’t be without it now!
I definately reccomend this machine, it’s been great and in use all day every day.
Wasn’t to sure on this fancy kettle, as that’s basically what it is. But it’s great, so easy to use and it’s great not having to wait on a kettle to boil. Child safely lock on it is great too.
Very controllable and so easy to use a true bedside companion, but is rather large
Great value filter system is great water taste is fresh and the temperature controls are brilliant a coffee made at 80degress is way better then being to hot all in all a great buy
Love this it holds lovely cold water and boiling hot at same time you can fill your pan with boiling water to go straight on hob so no waiting all round its brillia
Nothing to dislike about this product.
Large water tank about 3 litres.
Instant hot and cold water.
Has a flitter so your getting purer water.
Has a lock on it which you can do yourself or products will lock it’s self.
You have different heat settings from boiling water to cold. Don’t let the price put you of cause it’s worth every penny.
We love this machine. The kids love the novelty filtered water too. This is great because we have hard water that destroys all our kettles. It’s filtered, instantly hot, quiet and pours the exact amount. What more could you ask. Superb.
What can I say wasn’t going to buy because off some of the reviews, but so glad I took a risk I love this machine 5 stars it deserve
Only arrived today, however does what it’s supposed to. Easy to set up and water tastes great!
The only thing is it it is a little bit slow when the water comes out but other than that it is really good
This is a great product, I’ve come from using the only other high end dispenser, after 5 years it started to leak so I decided on this one, I love the chilled water, saves money right there fron having to run the tap. But the hot water side of it, well, I had to return the 1st one as it wasn’t hot enough, I had that with the other brand too, whilst the replacement is hotter, it’s still not hot enough, I use nescafe cappuccino sachets, just add sugar and hot water (85) but even set to boiling, its still jot hot enough, I can drink it down in a oner, that shouldn’t be, so imagine if I was to make a normal coffee or tea with a th milk, it would be far too cold, so I still have to stock it in my 1kw microwave for 30 seconds, only then is it spot on for me to drink it. Other than that the water container being at the back makes this hard to fill if you put it under a cupboard so bear that in mind, you either need to pull it out ore hopefully you will have enough room to lift out the container. The water is ok to drink taste wise but I can taste the filter, but thats certainly workable, I used to be able to taste the chlorine, but not any more with this filter. As long as you removed the cover off of the screen and yes, there is one, keep dragging ya nail on the corner to get a start on it then pull it off, the screen is perfect and works well with any input. I am happy with it, and can live with the microwave side of things, to with the other named brand of a similar priced machine anyway….
Very easy to use and set up. Filters are a bit stiff to lock in but go carefully and slow we had no problem. Would buy again and highly recommend for tea and hot chocolate. Can’t comment on other types of drinks as we don’t use them.
Bought this as it gives boiling water or cold filtered water. You can adjust the temperature from 0 to 100 degrees. You can adjust the quantity too from about 200mls to 1 liter. Great for making 1 cup as not boiling a whole kettle. You can also stop if you need to. So easy to use. Love i
Very good machine. Not as cold as i would like but still really good machine
Drip tray could be a bit stronger but that a side I am very pleased with i
Very easy to use. It does make a whiring sound but you can turn the machine off when not in use by pressing the power button on the machine. It does draw a lot of power when in use but that’s normal with any machine of its type. Overall very satisfied
I have had an instant hot water dispenser for a lot of years now but this item is just excellent in my opinion , highly recommended.
My tea coffee tastes so much better
A little temperamental on the On of switch
In an attempt to reduce my bottled water usage (too much plastic) I have been looking for an alternative that would not cost an arm and a leg. Looked at plumbed alternatives but very costly. This unit was reduced and had good reviews. On paper it filters water, using the same filter units that I already use in a jug. On top of this it has meant that I do not need a kettle or store filtered water in the fridge as it dispenses cold filtered water per glass. I have been using it now for a couple of weeks. I love it! Boiling water at the touch of a button, cold water by the glass and excellent double storage water tanks. I would recommend.
From the menu I can choose variable heat options for drinks or if I’m cooking and I need hot water for mixing sauces, gravy and so on. It was a worthwhile investment and I love it.
This machine does exactly what I bought it to do – dispense differing volumes of filtered water at different temperatures. The display and touch controls work well and easily, and the warning lights that come on when you need to top up with water, change filter, etc., is great. We don’t particularly want our water really cold all the time and therefore turn off the power after use, which means the cold water is at room temperature when it is turned back on and the water dispensed, and probably will save us a little off electricity bill, but I think, come the summer it will be something we will use. I struggled with using a filter jug and a kettle, but this machine makes makeing a cuppa easy. And you can dispense whatever volume of boiling water that you want, again saveing on boiling water to the minimum mark when you wanted less.
Easy to use like that you can change the temperature of the water a bit expensive
I have been using the Chillswell water cooler for about 2 year and decided to look for a unit that can provide me with Hot and Cold water.
After some research I have decided to but the Aqua Optima AUR001 Aurora, as it looks reasonably priced and with low running costs and minimal maintenance in comparison to other units.
Although I only had the unit for about a week now, I can say that me and my kids all love it. Great tasting cold water, with quick and easy access to hot water for tea and coffee.
If you don’t mind filing the water tank every day, something which takes exactly one minute, then this unit is highly recommended.
I will update the review in a month time, should I come across any problem, however, by the looks of things, all looks promising.
I like this. Its easy to use and also cools down water to a good temperature. It does need to be turned off if you dont want to cool the water and I guess the power for refridgeration used is not worth it. Just filter the water and store in the fridge.
To turn off the device you need to hold the lower button for three seconds to wake up the device then lighty touch for a second only the top button.
I like the fact that you can fill any size mug by either adusting the volume buttons or put it on max volume and just switch it off when you require due to odd mug sizes.
Dislikes: I dont like the drip tray. Its badly designed and weak when supporting larger gasses. Why not just have thicker stonger support tabs. FFS.
Filter. It is compatable with other devices as the Optima filters just drop in from the top in the other jug filters. What it doesnt tell you is these filters lock in fom below like a light bulb boyonette fitting and you cant use other filters in this device. I am looking at modifying an old filter as an adapter to allow cheaper alternatives. Used it for a couple on months now and yes it does what it says. Jut let down by some poor design as stated.
Good unit but quite expensive the touch controls are a bit odd – the lock needs touching for 3 seconds and works well the on off standby button is less predictable and usually is OK with a quick tap but if it goes into standby itself I fine turning it off then back on is the best way to get the touch switch working predictably.
You select temperature and amount and the amount seems to be a little high – on ours 350mm is actually 400mm so best to check if you are doing baking or bread . The drip tray is movable but has quit flimsy looking clips to change its Hight so we just have it on its lowest setting with the countertop providing additional strength .
It does make a noise when sat on the side doing nothing and while its not invasive I would say that in a quiet room it could be annoying .
The hottest water is not quite boiling but fine for normal use . The chilled water cool but not fridge cold probably 5-10 degrees lower than the ambient (there is a chilled reservoir in the machine which may be the reason for the noise on standby to keep that reservoir chilled). Flow rate for hot water is not that fast as its heated on the fly but we just accept it will take 10 seconds or so for a mug of water . This could be frustrating if you are making loads of cups at one time though
We used to boil a kettle 7-8 times a day and not use the water efficiently , this has certainly reduced that waste and reduced the amount of steam we put into the house so all in all we are happy with the uni
This replaces an old water dispenser, much needed as I’m disabled.
* Arrived next day, was simple to set up & so far it has done what it says it will do.
* Remember to follow the set up instructions – as failure to do so may make the water taste bit “plastiky”.
* I’ve tried the chilled water – and ok if you request it immidately after turning it on then it tends to get colder the more you ask for!
* You can turn this off for economy without needing to go through several “settings” – press the power button for off or back on.
* The child lock feature is good – I need to see if it can be turned off though!
* Great feature is you can stop it pouring if you want to swap out the bottle/jug/mug & then press again & it continues.
* The pour may seem to be slow – but I have found it easier than the wait until it’s all at temperature & fast flow out.
* Currently the only “bad” part is trying to refil it as the unit is on a worktop with cupboards above – but a smaller jug works well.
Overall I am impressed – with the machine bar the ongoing noise which is the chiller so I turn it off between uses – which may impact on the cold water but since it’s winter weather approaching I’m not that concerned!
Really pleased with this product ,the only issue was the touch control was intermittent. Got in touch with customer service ,who were brilliant. They sent a new aurora optima out to us , and arranged for the other one to be picked up . This one works perfect.
My husband was wiping the drip tray and broke one of the plastic connectors , got in touch with customer service again , they put one in the post no charge . Brilliant service
Only disadvantage is the tank is smaller needs filling at least once a day . Just set up your cup under ,
Turn on and a filtered cup of tea. Or cold water . Love i
Fantastic dispenser brilliant instant heat / cold water ehen needed , highly reccomend
love the screen on this device . A lot of people seem to be having problems with the screen touch pad , so did I to start with . The screen protective film isn`t obvious on this device so , I think a lot of people think there isn`t one . There is ! Pick at the corner of the screen till it starts to lift with your finger nail . Wipe it with something that will take away any adhesive residue ie:- Methylated spirit and polish with kitchen towel . After doing this mine worked perfectly and has done ever since . I find it does the job perfectly now and recommend it . If you want chilled water you will have to wait over half an hour for it to show the white light on the chill setting . Some people find the lock button annoying when you switch on . To get round this I put my finger on the lock button at the same time as turning it on and it then lights up without the child lock on . Hope this is helpful .
Replaced my hot water dispenser and what a difference! The filtered chilled water is a delight to drink. The only thing I have trouble with is taking the water tank to the tap. Maybe my age.
This is really great to have my boys are drinking more water, it’s so easy to us
Is a life changer hot tea in seconds as well as chilled water.
Amaizing looks so nice and is easy to use .
I love how you start getting hot water within seconds, instead of having to wait for it to boil then dispense. The water is perfect for a nice cup of hot tea. I haven’t perfected the art of chilled water yet. I need to read the instructions more. I don’t think it will be really cold how I like it, but it isn’t room temperature either. I’m using hot water at the moment, but will check out the chilled function when I need it. Love that it can do both. It’s quick, it’s quiet and so utterly easy to use. I’m really happy with it.
Easy to assemble and a good water capacity. Look’s really stylish. Now the problem is with the touch panel sensors, they don’t always work, as several other reviewers have said the on/off sensor sometimes does not work and you have to unplug the unit to turn it off also sometimes the other touch sensors do not respond to your touch. I brought this unit because my wife has arthritis and can no longer pick a kettle up but may have to return . Sadly there is no way to contact the manufacturer on the Amazon site. UPDATE 15/10/21, after contacting the manufacturer by email I was pleasantly surprised to be offered a direct replacement by currier who would deliver a new machine and collect the faulty one for investigation into the problems I was experiencing. And within 24 hours the new machine arrived and has been working faultlessly for a week now. I am delighted with the excellent customer service’s of this company, Strix, and have confidence in the way everything has been handled. Thank you to Chris at Strix for his excellent help. Would not hesitate to use this company again. Thank you.
Before I bought this 10 days ago, there was only one review for the machine that is advertised. It now appears reviews from 2 products have been merged and most of the reviewers are talking about a completely different machine, specifically one that only dispenses cold water.
I have the hot and cold water dispenser.
I needed a kettle and I was going to buy a filter jug for the fridge to fill it with (living in the South East we have very hard water) until I found this!
Absolutely the best of both worlds. You can even control the temperature of the hot water, so if you prefer your tea or coffee to be made with water that’s off the boil, this is the machine for you.
Cold water is not ice cold but very pleasantly chilled and dispenses immediately. It does not take hours to chill and I can fill a litre into my insulated water bottles without losing the chilled temperature.
Hot water takes about 3 seconds to dispense.
Water is clear and tasteless, meaning I am drinking so much more of it.
There is no plastic taste, there is no chlorine taste, and it’s certainly does not taste like the rubbish that comes out of our taps. To me, it tastes like bottled mineral water.
There is a very light whirring of a fan but unless you’re inatalling it next to your bed and you can’t stand white noise, then this really is pretty quiet.
It’s a bit of a chunk on the work surface, and the adjustable drip tray was something of a disappointment. It does not slide up and down into position, you have to unhook it from the previous position and then re-hook it into the position you want it.
We constantly leave it at the bottom because I’m convinced the lugs are going to break off keep hooking and and unhooking it.
The only disadvantage with leaving it in the lowest position is that when you do a small cup of boiling water, it does tend to spit out a little to the sides, so just make sure you’re standing back from the machine. Obviously, raising the drip tray resolves this.
I found the child lock extremely annoying but I can see it’s usefulness in other households. If you read through the paperwork properly you will see a way of permanently turning off the child lock, although the instructions did not work I reversed them and that resolved it.
If you unplug it and plug it in again, the child lock puts itself back on so you’ll have to remember how to take it off, or not throw the instructions away!
I was surprised to see how much the price has risen in 10 days. If you want this I would suggest you watch and wait see if the price drops.
In short, a great machine to filter both hot and cold water, but with a slightly dodgy drip tray mechanism.
What an amazing water cooler/ hot water dispenser I always bought bottled water as I don’t like the taste or impurity of tap water this machine is a life changer no more water bottles it’s cold as if its come out of the fridge tastes great no funny tap water taste the hot it’s boiling hot you can adjust the temperature you want filters through really really fast very silent every household should have one LVE IT
Pros
– Instant hot and cold water
– Filter integrated with the water tank
– Pretty Outlook
Cons
– A bit pricey
– Water tank is a bit small so has to be refilled everyday
