Delighted with my purchase great value for money highly recommended
Blown away by this super cheap mic, having used AT products before, I was impressed, the previous mic being over 600 and this competes with it for 75 amazing quality, coupled with a NI komplete audio 6, with 48volt inline phantom power, this knocks the competition out! Buy it you wont regret it! Would highly recommend a pop shield and cradle, and don’t cheap out of xlr cable crap cables produce noise. And you want as close to no line noise as possible.
This microphone was excellent, really simple to setup and your voice comes through so clear.
If you are planning on using this to stream or game online just be aware it will capture all sounds because it’s that good. You may need to get addtional software to hide keyboard sounds etc
Discord has a feature to surpress noise which stopped the sound of my keyboard but made no change to my voice being heard which was perfect.
I had to return mine as I just don’t have enough space to use this with an arm mount on my desk at the moment. When i do get the space i will get this microphone again.
Its essentially going to be me echoing what many have already said.
I have the XLR version it is a very nice quality microphone with great clarity and voice quality I paired it with the focusrite scarlett solo and it works perfect.
it performs as well as you would expect and you understand why so many have bought it before, The only thing it can’t do is make my voice sound better.
Its a microphone I can recommend.
AT2020 mic comes without cable, so you will have to buy one. It works very well with behringer UMC22 also the mic built like a tank and I think it is worth every penny.
Nice well made mic… good quality sound… don’t forget it needs 48v phantom power via mixer, interface or separate power unit. Clear, clean… good reproduction of your voice. One of the standard home studio mics along with the AKG P120. I’ve only used with voice but feel confident it’d be great with acoustic / electric instruments. Recommended.
This is great XLR Microphone. For the price you are getting a very good deal and the mic itself gives you a higher quality sound and build quality for what you pay for. Personally I love it as it gives you that tone in the voice on the hight end and not so much on the low end similar to the RE320. Same for clarity in the voice. Of course these are two different mics entirely and cant be put in the same level but you know what I mean about similarities. Build quality is very nice. You get a nice pouch and the brackets for the mic to connect to the arm. You don’t get an xlr cable. For the price is a must buy. Great all round.
I’ve had this mic for almost close to 5 years now and I’ve never had any problems. I love it more than anything and I highly recommend it.
As I’m just starting out in the world of audio narration I needed a good quality XLR mic. The AT2020 always gets good ratings on reviews and, having research various mics, I went for this due to the combination of quality and price. I’m glad I did. Combined with a budget audio interface, this mic is fabulous in my opinion. I use Audacity to edit audio and setting volume levels etc has been remarkably easy.
I bought it as a gift and my partner thinks its great.
I have been using these microphones for recording live music and also lectures in a hall. They are excellent condenser microphones and I would recommend them if you want a good quality mid-price microphone.
I’m not an audiophile but it sounds fine to me. I’m using it for voice communication when working from home.
I purchased it because it works without any additional hardware requirements (i.e. a mixer), and it is plug-and-play compatible with Linux (tested with Ubuntu 20.04).
Note: The pop filter in the photo is not included with the purchase.
Bought this as part of a new audio setup I intended to use for gaming and general voice chatting. Works great, even if it’s a little sensitive. You will have to do some pre-amp EQ on it if you intend to use this with Windows 10 due to Microsoft’s USB drivers, but there are simple tutorials for that online. Once I had it set up, I was more than satisfied with my purchase.
Great high end microphone
However, you will need to also purchase a XLR cable and boom arm.
You will also need a DAC/AMP for this to work.
I use this with my Scarlett 2i2 and it works great!
Bought for Teams calls to work, people the other end say the sound is very clear. I’ve made a few ambient and voice sound recordings with it. I’m particularly impressed with the quality of the high frequencies. The stand is OK. Just make sure you have one of the legs directly under the mic as it’s offset from the middle and has a tendency to fall over if it’s not. I planning on doing some nocmig-ing with it as it’s fidelity and good signal to noise ratio will be perfect for the job.
First order worked fine for about a week and then started to rattle for no apparent reason. I ordered a new one and sent the faulty one back as the reviews are good so hoping it was a case of bad luck.
Delivery driver was rude!! The passenger of a vehicle came to my door, knocked it like they were trying to push it through the frame and then put the parcel on the floor and just got back in the car. No pleasantries or thanks yous or interaction. I can’t stand delivery drivers with bad manners. They ruin the overall feel of the service. By the time I’d picked up my parcel they were already in their car, doors shut and pulling away. So in conclusion the replacement item is here, I’m waiting for a refund on the old faulty item and the delivery driver was a knob. Manners cost nothing and I don’t want to sound like a snob but it’s customers orders that give them a job that earns them a wage.
I did my research before buying because I was on a budget and it’s safe to say there’s nothing quite like this on the market. It’s such a good product that AT haven’t changed it in years and it’s still one of their most popular mics. Good enough for professional use.
A good few years back I had an XLR AT microphone that I loved the quality from. In January I had a need for a microphone but wasn’t sure I would use it much, so I just bought a cheap USB microphone. For the price, it wasn’t bad but a few month in and it started developing a fault. Since I found I was using a microphone more than I thought, I decided it was worth paying the extra for an AT based on my previous experience. It’s good to see that their microphones still live up to my expectations. The sound quality is excellent and picks up a lot less background noise than my previous USB mic too. Build quality is great, it feels a nicely constructed bit of kit and looks the part……just a single blue light to indicate power without any of the flashy gamer stuff, this is good with me! I didn’t use the desk stand, I have it on an arm, so can’t comment on that. I’m glad I paid the extra now, I have found it very worthwhile and good to see AT still making quality products.
This is my first XLR mic I’ve ever used and before purchasing I always thought it was more technical than it really is. I use an interface instead of a mixer, but it does the job for what I need it for. Before this I was using a Blue Snowball USB and the quality difference is very audible.
The AT2020 has been the go-to budget microphone for years now, and for very good reason. Whether you are going to be doing podcasts, voiceovers, singing, or you need a to mic some instruments, you can’t really go wrong here.
Obviously you shouldn’t expect the same performance compared with a mic costing hundreds, but personally, I am very pleased with how great this mic is for the price.
A couple of things to remember. If you get the XLR version, you will need an audio interface to connect it to your pc (and this must provide phantom power). It doesn’t come with an XLR cable, so you will need one of those. Also, it is designed to go on a stand again, this is not provided.
Finally, make sure you speak/sing into the correct side of the mic (with the Audio Technica logo on it), as it is unidirectional.
When I decided to upgrade my mic I was thinking more like 40, not 130 (for mic, cable and accessories) but you get what you pay for. After being very impressed with my Audio Technica headphones (M40x) I went with an Audio Technica mic.
As mentioned this is my first condenser mic so I can not give any comparisons, but I can say that I am very happy with this mic. It is very sensitive and it sounds absolutely fantastic.
As a final note, I brought the XLR version rather than the USB and I have paired it with a Behringer UMC22 computer audio interface which I am also completely satisfied with. In fact, the only thing I have not been satisfied with is my XLR cable. For whatever reason, this does not include one so I brought a cable made by Stagg. Which has been most difficult, I intend to replace it swiftly with a more premium cable.
I ordered this microphone I think 2-3 years ago. It’s AMAZING! I paired it up with a Behringer U-PHORIA UM2 interface and a Neewer boom arm. The microphone quality is amazing and when you set it up perfectly you sound amazing! I recommend this for any streamer/youtuber or just for anyone who wants a microphone!
Yeah good quality mic especially for the price, bought it alongside a mixer and a stand which works nicely.
I have no experience with high end microphones but compared to others I own it is low noise and a nice sound. It is sensitive so try to position the front away from unwanted sound sources or with room sound deadening. I compared the sound through some online test results before purchase and in this price bracket, I liked the sound of this one best.
Awesome mid budget mic. Easy setup, works well with OBS
Best midrange affordable XLR mic I once again purchased. Just don’t forget it’s XLR so you’ll need something to drive it.
I bought this after reading a lot of reviews to replace a Behringer C-1 (non-USB) that had developed a hum. I use the mic for recording vocals and guitar and taking part in online (Zoom) folk club evenings. The Behringer was a good mic but this is better. I haven’t had it that long but in my opinion it is a step up from the C-1. And it is solid, looks good, picks up little background noise. Real value for money.
I’ve used it to record guitar through it. It’s a fairly sentitive mic but that’s what condensers should be. I think for the price tag these are a great option as you won’t really notice a big difference from pricier ones unless you’re after professional quality recording, and even then I think they’d cut the mustard. My only little gripe is that I’ve found them to be a little thin in the mix, perhaps too reactive but it’s no big deal. Recommended.
it sounds amazing its built amazingly well its just a really good mic i tested it out with my voice and it worked amazing sounded clear crisp you know what you would want then i tested it out on my acoustic guitar sounded very warm and round which is what i like tested it with electric bass and guitar and it just sounds really good
BUY IT, IT IS AMAZING NOT LIKE THAT BLUE YETI SCAM
I use this for college video calls, as well as for Discord and voice acting. If you need a good budget mic, this is a good shout.
Absolutely the best quality microphone for the money, no questions asked.
I was using a blue snowball for recording music and I’ve wanted to upgrade my microphone for a while
Had my eyes on the at2020 for a good couple years and I’m so glad I bought it
The quality difference is actually unbelievable!
You honestly don’t need to spend hundreds on a decent setup to get studio and professional quality
Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for an upgrade that’s not going to break your bank!
Amazing sound quality, staple for making music! Impressively fast delivery too!
What a difference!
Upgrading from a blue yeti nano, the sound is so much clearer! There is no hiss, my phones signal doesn’t interfere with recordings, and it’s actually a fair bit smaller overall.
Great little mic, unbeatable price to quality ratio lol
I’m using this mic for guitar lessons on zoom, and it picks up both voice and acoustic guitar very well without having to get uncomfortably close.
I’m on windows 10. The mic installs itself very easily and quickly, but it does take over the sound settings. Because it has a headphone out, that becomes your default playback choice. Of course you can re-set this easily if you want. (I dont use headphones with it myself.)
One slight issue is that it’s USB only (I knew that of course),. It can’t be mixed with other sound sources – at least not with the other hardware and software I have. And although the quality is plenty good enough for lessons, I would probably use a different mic for audio recording – either for voice or guitar – simply because I could use an interface between the mics and the PC.
In other words, to get quality as good as this for my lessons before meant a complex set-up with a couple of mics and an interface – and I still couldn’t get quite enough volume. This mic does the job straight into the PC, with a good volume level.
Sound quality so much better than the bm800 I had before. Great addition to a home studio.
This is a superior sounding microphone. I bought this for use on vocal and acoustic guitar. It is excellent for either, and for that matter with good positioning, both at the same time as a mono source. Unusually for a condenser of this design, it works well on close miking vocal with a pleasant proximity effect without excessive sibilance. It seems fairly resistant to plosives when used slightly off axis. A foam pop shield is available. (just make sure you get the right size — my mistake! at the very least it will keep the dust out). I already have two vintage large diaphragm mics from the 1990s and this is my opinion offers better sound quality than both. Having said that, it is at an entry level price, and considerably less expensive than either of the older ones were by far. It appears reasonably rugged and is well designed. It is of sufficient quality for professional studio use. I have an AT3525 (its ancestor) from the 1990s and an AKG C3000 (the original – Made in Austria version). Sonically, I believe the AT2020 is superior to both, however there are a few minor considerations. The polar field is fixed (there are more expensive models in the range that have multi polar patterns), there is no bass rolloff switch, there is no attenuation switch. So, if you’re not jumping around in front of it, or banging away on a nearby drum kit, or setting your Marshall to 11 those things shouldn’t be a problem. These are additional features available in more expensive models in the range, and if you don’t need them, not important. The sound is airy on vocal, and there is a nice balanced bass end without being too boomy.
There has been criticism of this mic for having inherent noise, I didn’t find that an issue myself. (I use a Behringer UMC404HD interface on my PC)
I don’t like the mounting system, I found the supplied mount can be awkward to position at different angles, and it cannot be used with other makes of mic. It’s well made, but I’m not convinced about the design. It won’t be a problem for everybody, but I find it a little cumbersome. If the mic is on a stand and rarely exchanged with another, then it won’t be an issue. It is however a fairly minor nuisance the way I work. There are suspension mounts available of course at additional cost. As a bodge, I got about 2 inches of 1 inch (external) diameter plastic hose that nicely fits over the XLR connector and the bottom of the AT2020 allowing it to be used in more generic mic holders.
All in all, an excellent purchase. No regrets.
I got a cheaper microphone and a behringer um22 to boost its signal and the sound was still not clear. After just 1-2 months I bought the at2020 after being an owner of an mx40 headset. The microphone is gorgeous quality. Together with the mx40 there’s so much quality for the fraction of what you can buy from other brands.
A brilliant microphone professional sound quality perfect for streamers, Artists, producers and podcasters it’s crisp and has an amazing tone especially as I have a really deep voice I bought it for 80 arrived on time and with everything in the box including warranty! Of 2years as I can remember it comes with a pouch unfortunately no included cable or shockmount you just get the connector that connects to a floor stand or shockmount.
Very well made, quality microphone using to record with garage band. Matches all the pot I’ve reviews read and watched before purchase.
I consistently get compliments on how good my microphone sounds and it does sound great! Build quality is very high, however my volume dial does have a strange crackle when I adjust it when it’s outputting sound through the headphone jack. The blue light inside the microphone also can’t be turned off and is very bright so I sometimes have to unplug it at night.
The condenser equivalent of the Shure SM58 dynamic microphone. One of the best value studio microphones you will ever buy. I use this for recording an internet radio show remote V/T and I can’t praise it highly enough, captures my voice perfectly.
Tripod stand a bit small and light for mic; have ordered AT8449a and will mount on Gravity MS4222b stand. Very pleased that Windows 10 drivers are now available.
Overall this is a really nice quality microphone well priced.
Very happy with the sound quality. Connected this to windows, and iPad pro. Uses Solo 3rd gen USB – voice quality is very very good. Very satisfied
Best sound I’ve found for a studio condenser at the price.
(Especially as it was only 75 when I bought it)
I got this for streaming on twitch. So far seems great, though be sure to use a voice software to control the sound and edit it so you don’t hear the people down the street. This mic will pick up a lot, both good and bad. So be sure to use a voice gate and compressor to your own liking. I got it with a boom arm and so far haven’t had any issues with it. The mic feels great build quality, sounds really like i’m in the room with the listener.
I recommend voicemeeter banana or something similar on windows so you can properly control the mic for streaming. OBS has options but you’re find it far more restrictive.
Bought this to do audio versions of my books and it even makes a muppet like me sound good
If you’re in the market, would recommend this over the Blue Yeti but just do research.
I’ve got this setup with my Komplete Audio 1 and DT 990 Pro headphones.
If you’re looking for an entry-level microphone for a budget this is the right thing to get.
If you just want to use it casually for streaming or talking to friends on discord you can probably just get the usb version, but it will have a slightly worse sound quality (it is much easier to set up on the other side since you don’t need an interface or an xlr cable)
If you want something slightly better for recording singing I would suggest going up to the at2035 but this will do the job properly as well for it and is perfect for voiceovers, rapping or instruments.
I use this mic every day and i have to say its been pretty good. loving the sound it makes and its great for guitars, amps and a room mic for drums. i mostly use it for my voice when i stream. the only thing that i dont like is the cradle that holds the mic. just feels a bit stiff when trying to lock it in place but other than that its been great experience so far. well worth the money
I’ve now bought three of these for our podcast set up. Sound quality is really excellent. I spent a lot of time working out the best mix in terms of quality/price and I’m very pleased with the decision I made. My colleague uses his to deliver webinars through zoom as well and the sound quality is noticeably better than a standard computer mic or webcam mic. Really good, nice solid construction. Thoroughly recommend for affordable podcast/webinar and other uses.
It’s as good as it get for a starter mic
For price and the quality you get from Audio tech is first-class as far as I’m concerned, very happy with the AT2020. I would most certainly recommend. Sound quality is second to none and feels and sounds very professional.
Which is great for the intention I want it for, and that is for Twitch Tv Streaming, etc. I use a Behringer Q802USB Mixer for extra tweaking an, of course, the 48-Volt power which it requires. Very Happy 😉
Sound quality is superb with no background noise at all. Considering the price this has been a very good purchase. Pay attention since it needs a 48v power supply. Check your audio interface before buying.
Some of the reviews a read before purchasing this item seemed to be negative due to some oversight on the customer’s part; this is by far the most impressive budget microphone on offer for those looking to begin a home-studio setup without breaking the bank.
As someone who has worked in and amongst professional recording environments, I can say that this entry-level mic is very versatile, and the build quality alone is impressive; it feels sturdier than an AKG C414!
Ultimately, microphones that are offered at this price aren’t going to be able to compete with the likes of professional studio equipment, but using this in conjunction with an acoustically-treated environment and some good preamps and post-production will certainly give more advanced gear a run for its money.
Oh, and to the reviewer that complained about this microphone not including a power-source or a cable; that gave me a chuckle! This product’s intended customer is your typical eager bedroom-producer, not a podcaster looking for a quick solution to vocal overdubs. Always do your research before committing to a purchase 🙂
I might have bought this in a sale, but I used it for a project and it was awesome. I later I sold it on an ebay auction for pretty much the same price as I paid for it – win win situation! 🙂
Very happy with the quality and usability. Glad I went with the at2020 usb+ over the rode nt-usb as from what iv’e read its 50/50 on which one sounds better but I find the round shape of the audio technica very useful as I’m able to easily use aftermarket parts such as a cheap + small pop filter and koolertron 50mm universal shock mount which doesn’t add much bulk compared to the proprietary shock + pop filter combo you have to use on the rode nt-usb which is more money and too big!
I have it mounted to a rode psa1 boom arm, positioned in front of my mouth. Used whilst gaming and it does not get in the way of the monitor at all, I can easily see over it.
Great mic, good quality sound, at a reasonable price. People were able to tell when I was using it. They reported noticable clarity and improvement in my voice. So happy with it I purchased its XLR counterpart for my mixer setup
This mic delivers exceptional performance for the price i would definatley recommend it for vocals, I don’t know about the performance for instrument.
Great sound quality and pitch range however I struggled to give this a solid 5 stars because mine arrived dented and required some very careful disassembly to fix.
Still, one of the best budget mics I’ve ever owned and works great for my use case.
