I recently purchased the Black+Decker dehumidifier and I am extremely satisfied with its performance. It effectively removes moisture from the air and has made a noticeable difference in the comfort of my bedroom. The compact design allows for easy placement in any room. The noise level is minimal, making it perfect for use during the night.
bought this for caravan, excellent for small areas eg, cupboards
Neat and tidy looking, easy to work and empty, has different settings depending how damp it is, has a night mode to dim the lights although it’s a fairly loud hum and drives me and the kids insane (husband could sleep through a train crashing into the side of the house!) so we do end up turning it off overnight. But it’s kept the windows free of water ever since. Love it.
Easy to pick up and move around. It is noisy, constant fan noise. Does work but not very efficiently. Don’t know why it has got such a big tank as it would have to be on for months to fill it. Would not buy again.
I’ve had this now for a couple of months and it does a brilliant job. I had to empty it twice a day when I first got it, but now I just empty it once a day. We had damp in our kitchen due to a leak in the roof. This helped quite a bit and it hardly uses a lot of electricity. It costs me a few pence an hour so this is well worth the money.
It’s also quiet with just a soft humm from the motor.
Firstly, the item looks smart and modern. With it’s caster wheels it’s easy to move around. Instructions are clear if printed very small. Mainly it does what it is supposed to do…absorbs moisture. When we first used it we had 89% humidity! After less than a week it is down to late 60 s when turned on. It does help to dry the laundry too. Don’t know the running costs, but we use it for approximately 3 – 4 hours each day. Windows appear to have less condensation and the bungalow feels warmer and less damp. So far so good.
Easy to use. Shows temperature and humidity levels on display. Very useful if drying washing indoors as it helps to keep moisture levels down. Only downside is that it is quite noisy. Good for the price and a trusted brand.
We live in an old house with dampness issues, especially in our main bedroom due to old sash windows.
We bought this to help make living there more comfortable. It is noisier than our old ‘passive’ dehumidifier, which was nothing more than a PC fan and a heatsink in a plastic case; this is an ‘active’ dehumidifier with a refrigeration unit inside.
The difference is like night and day. The amount of water this extracts from the air is fantastic. It lowered the humidity from 86% in our bedroom to just 64% in just over an hour, removing about one litre of water from the air.
I used it yesterday to dry clothing, two clothes airers fully loaded at the top of our stairs, with a separate fan to move the clothes around; it took about 6 hours of operation during the day and left off overnight, and the clothes came off the airers dry enough to finish off in the airing cupboard this morning.
Love it.
With the current energy crisis hitting hard it has been challenging to manage the washing for our very active family which includes 4 school children and a dog.
Our vented tumble dryer was in use for 3 loads a day (minimum) and based on the current price of electric we estimate would cost a whopping 1,500 per year to run! During the summer months the washing line had bagged us the savings, but the concern was that we would have to resort to the tumble dryer in the winter or use radiators which in tun would create excess moisture in the house and also impair the central heating system. After investigating alternatives, we thought we would give a dehumidifier a try and created a “drying room” in airing cupboard.
The 12 litre Black & Decker works wonderfully well and is drying everything we throw at it while adding some warmth to the house and keeping the condensation at bay. Clothes feel nicer, show less wear and retain more of the smell of the washing products that ever before.
I estimate that it will cost a maximum of 34 p/m to use which is much more palatable than the 125 p/m for the tumble dryer.
If you share our problem, then this could be a solution for you.
Since the weather has turned cooler, we have been waking up to horrendous condensation on our bedroom windows. They are old windows without vents, we have the windows locked on ventilate but at night we have to close them as it gets so cold. I bought this dehumidifier on Wednesday and when I turned it on it it said the humididity in our home was 85%! I’ve had it set on the high fan setting with a target humidity of 50%. The lowest I’ve seen it manage to get to was about 65% which is great. It managed that in about 24 hours. This morning (day 2) the tank was completely full of water! I’ve just emptied it and put it back in and the humidity is now at 75%.
I was dubious about spending this amount of money but when I saw white mold on the back of our headboard I knew I needed to do something. We set this dehumidifier up on Wednesday night, Wednesday morning the windows looked like the photo I’ve shared ( completely covered in condensation), then Thursday and Friday morning the windows were bone dry. I can’t believe how well it’s worked. It’s absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend.
Simple to use and works well dehumidifying a relatively small space but is very loud even with the fan set to low.
only good things to say, been using it for about a month now in a slightly damp below ground room and has vastly outperformed an older dehumidifier of another brand.
Had an Aldi small dehumidifier that kept breaking. Replaced with this and it’s much better despite being no bigger. We put under the clothes airier in the kitchen and it dries the clothes much quicker. I think the people complaining are using in too big a room. Our kitchen is about 7-8 Sq M and it’s perfect.
In my opinion this is perfect for a small kitchen or room. Seeing the humidity drop gives me an indication of when the clothes are dry as by 53 they’re bone dry, when the washing is hung out humidity goes up to 68
Just watch the price as it’s really volatile I bought it and in the space of a day it had gone up over 10 then within a week that was 30 more
Using for the last 3 months. This review is for 12L.
I had my doubts after seeing some of the reviews but the deal was too good to pass. Also most negative reviews were for smaller variant. So bought it anyways and am happy i made the right decision.
Pros:
Not very loud at slow fan speed.
Easy to setup.
Does the job well even at low temperatures of 15C.
It’s running 24/7 and hasnt increased my bill much, i think its increased by around 7 to 8 pounds may be less. I keep the humidity settings at 55.
Really worth it if you dry clothes indoor or do a lot of my cooking.
Cons:
Difficult to remove the water reservoir sometimes.
No child safety buttons; so my kid used to keep messing up the settings but thankfully now he has got bored from it.
Conclusion: definitely worth the money!
POWERFUL DEHUMIDIFYING: High performance dehumidifier technology eliminates damp, mould and moisture in the air, ideal for rooms up to 15 sq m and smaller spaces such as closets, wardrobes and cupboards
LARGE WATER TANK: Capable of extracting up to 12 litres of unwanted moisture a day with its large 2.5L water tank, which can be removed for easy drainage and cleaning
4-in-1 FUNCTIONALITY: Choose between four preset functions to tackle evaporating moisture in the air
used in the conservatory as i was getting a bit of damp in there, ,was surprised at how much water it pulled out of there
worked out it was using 4p a day
Nice and small so doesn’t need slot of storage space . It is quite noisy though
Had a leak that seeped into livingroom. Using this little machine was important in helping to dry out.
Simple instructions on how to use. I have used this in my conservatory as I found damp in one corner, it’s a nice narrow sleek unit which collects a good amount of water. The different settings are also useful too.
Wouldn’t it without it my home was so damp unless I kept the heating on but with this I no longer have a problem thank you
Easy to set up and use. This would be ideal for small spaces. From a price point perspective it feels quite expensive but having said that it is a recognised make so it should be long lasting/well made.
Excellent Black and Decker dehumidifier removes so much moisture and has reduced condensation in the house. Excellent item.
Really pleased with the performance of this dehumidifier. Large capacity plus drainage pipe option means it can run unchecked for a reasonable time. Various features for different “uses”, clear humidity level displays. Reasonably quiet operation especially on lower fan speed.
Easy to use, collects water and easy to dispose water. LED displays humidity value and timer works as described.
It works quite well, doesn’t de-humify as much as I thought it would
It is quite noisy as well
For a small machine it certainly does the job. I put it in our motorhome as it’s not being used at the moment. I had a full tray in 2 days.
Im not sure why the are bad reviews for the 2l model. I haven’t had a problem. It has reduced humidity drastically to in-between 46 and 52 from 65-78% ( and that was with an extractor attached). So this dehumidifier works better than that. But then again I’m using this in a grow tent, so it’s a smaller space than a room. So im happy with it. Only negative is it isn’t quiet but it isn’t loud. Its as loud as a fan i guess. Just to note, I had to give it more than 24 hours of use for it to reduce the humidity.
If you have a room that suffers from raised humidity this is an ideal solution to removing the excess moisture in the air. Like many other people I’ve sometimes used the manual chemical based boxes for removing the moisture, but this is haphazard and can long term work out expensive as you have to replace them.
Here we have a nice greener alternative from Black and Decker. The unit comes well packaged, but unpacking and setup is a breeze and you’ll soon have it up and running.
Operationally there is some fan noise, but this is not extreme and if you are used to a normal standalone fan or similar it will not bother you. The de-humidify function seems to work really well, in any 24 hour period it seems able to remove between one third and a litre of water depending on the day and current humidity. This means it should be emptied probably every other day if left running permanently to keep it up to peak level performance.
There is also claimed to be a level of air purification that gets carried out as well, if this is so I’m not sure, but it definitely does not make things worse and it seems for my mother that it has beneficial effects on her asthma so I have no reason to believe it does not process the air to some degree as well as remove the moisture.
I’ve now had this functioning quite happily for a fortnight or so without any issues, seems a good unit to me.
First impressions of this were good, it’s quite a large appliance but looks nice with a minimalist design on the front, control buttons on top and a vent on the back.
It has a wide range of settings for various applications and conditions including a dry clothes function, target humidity setting, air clean function, auto mode, auto defrost indicator and timer.
It was really easy to use, you don’t need to add anything you simply just turn it on to the setting you require. We wanted this for the bedroom as the windows keep getting quite damp inside overnight and we’re worried about it causing mould. We had planned to leave it on overnight but it was a bit too noisy for that in our bedroom, I think it would be ok in a large room though.
We ended up putting it on half hour before bed and the humidity reading fell from 80 to 55 which was good. We did the same thing in the morning with the same sort of numbers. We got around 1-2 litres out which was quite impressive. The windows weren’t fully moisture free as we didn’t leave it on overnight but think they would’ve been if we had left it on.
Emptying it was just a case of pulling out the tank and tipping it down the sink so that was really easy to do.
Overall we’ve been really impressed with this so would definitely recommend for general use, maybe not if you want it on overnight in a small bedroom as it’s a bit loud to sleep over.
I ordered the smaller 900ml dehumidifyer. I have room approx 5m x 5m so was slightly worried it wouldn’t be a big enough model. But after a week of use it’s done a great job! I use it in my bedroom, it’s on 24/7 and after a week it extracted around half a tank of water. In the morning, on occasion there is still some condensation on the windows but not as much as before. Myself and my partner feel alot better in the mornings now and have has less sniffles and coughs since using it. The unit can be quite heavy once full, as I leave it on the floor in the corner of the room it can be quite tricky to pick up, would be great if there was a little handle or indent in the top/ side to help pick it up. Takes two hands to pick it up. It’s fairly quiet, although just took me a couple of nights to get used to the noise, now I don’t hear it. Overall, perfect for a small room and a great price for a decent brand.
I’ve been trying this out in our utility room/garage area as it is not central heated and can get a little damp sometimes. In terms of operation, its really straight forward and simple to use plus the 24 hour timer is easy to use. I was unable to find anyway to connect permanently to a drain which mean it needs to be manually emptied, it does have an auto cutoff when full. I did notice that it took a good few hours of operation to start working well, but now it seems fine, its on for around 2 hours per day and is drawing a good amount of moisture out.
20L model. Well pleased, used in garden workshop to replace old one which gave up after 15 years. This one brought humidity back down from 90 to 70 in 5 hours, and I can leave it on ‘target humidity’ without it overrunning which is economical. Only regret is provision of digital controls which will probably not last more than 10 years and make it difficult to patch repair when the need comes. The outlet vent is facing up so the unit needs turning off and covering if the air is full of wood chips. Intake screen easily detachable and blown clean. Castors smooth but quite small so unit doesn’t roll easily over shavings. Worth the cost compared to industrial units.
There are several reviews here for different models which makes this hard to understand what it is you are buying into given the 2ltr version has some terrible reviews. I had some doubts this would be as good but I took a chance and prayed Amazon’s Customer service would not fail me if it turned out to be crap. I’ve been using a DEM10 for probably going on 8 years now but the current house we are in may be a bit much for this unit alone so opted for this model, obviously an entire house is far to much for a single 20l unit but it helps reduce the humidity if placed in specific areas. We now have one unit upstairs, one downstairs. This 20L model has proven to be amazing, the 6l bucket takes about a day to fill up, the machine is about a noisy as the DEM10 I’m using and extracts double of what the DEM10 can, this is probably helped by the fans just being 100% more powerful moving more air and this was on low setting, although high does not feel much higher, maybe a 20% boost. 2 days on and the house has been a solid 50-56% humidity for the last few days and we usually been resting at 65-75% with just the DEM10 alone.
This arrived in top opening branded box with considerable weight to it, I decided to open both the top and bottom and slide the outer box off, you could open it from the top and lift it out as there are cut-outs in the top of the dehumidifier for lifting but it would have still meant having to lift it clear of the box, I thought sliding the outer box off was the best method and it worked out well. I left the dehumidifier standing in place for 24 hours before use as per the instructions.
First impressions: the manual was affixed to the front of the dehumidifier with the first few pages covering safety instructions and warnings along with an identification diagram, it then goes on with very detailed usage instructions along with instructive diagrams, I found the manual very good, easy to follow and all in English so you don’t have to search the right section. After removing the packaging I gave it a good look over, it has a nice clean look with a simple but nice design, the finishing all looks and feels very nice and I particularly liked the LED ring in the front making it easy to see it was running from a distance.
After having a good read through the manual I gave it a try out setting it up next to the balcony doors, this area suffers with a bit of damp during the winter caused through condensation having most windows closed during the cold, although the dehumidifier is heavy it is easy to move having casters on the base and lifting handles should you need them. I set it to target humidity and let it run for three hours twenty seven minutes to be exact, it is fairly loud and I would describe it as about as loud as a cooling fan you would have running in the summer. I found it fairly easy to empty with the water collection section just sliding in and out and it managed to extract half a litre of water in the time it was running which I found surprising and impressive. The filter is very easy to remove and clean when needed simply clipping in and out when you want to.
Overall I was impressed with how well it extracted, I tested out the timer system and that worked perfectly as it should and worked through the other settings trying them out and they all performed as listed, I thought the control panel was clear and easy to use, the instructions at first seem a bit overwhelming but once you get into them are well detailed and easy to follow covering every aspect, function and usage. I was impressed with how well it performed and can’t really find fault with it, for this reason have given top marks
This is the review for the 20 Litre Dehumidifier with the 24 hour timer and LED display.
***IF you want the BOTTOM LINE, scroll to the end for our verdict.***
Why Does a 20 Litre Dehumidifier Have a 6.5 Litre Tank?
This unit is capable of extracting upto a maximum of 20 litres of air moisture with it’s large and powerful motor, it’s designed to work in the wide variation of British weather including unheated spaces. The 20 litre capacity is a huge amount and very close to industrial standards. It has a maximum tank capacity of 6.5 litres, which would need to be emptied 3 times in the 24 hours, if it’s operating at full capacity. But you have another option…
The Second Option:
The 20 litre model is fitted with a drainage outlet and included, is a hose. I am able to bypass the tank completely and leave the dehumidifier to it’s own devices, without having to empty the tank. I simply fit the hose into the outlet on the device and feed it directly into a suitable drain.
Not very long ago, we needed to hire a dehumidifier in winter to swiftly dry wet plaster in a room after an underfloor central heating pipe burst. As it was in the colder months, we were conscious of the looming damp waiting to rear its head – we didn’t have the privilege of time on our side. Quick action was vital. The hire unit we acquired, extracted to same 20 litres per day as this powerful one.
Usage:
Having left the unit upright for 24 hours, as instructed to do so by the manual, before use – a crucial point to settle whatever needs settling inside.
Is it Complicated?
Using this unit, isn’t as straightforward as the industrial unit, nor is it as simple as the smaller capacities in this series. There are a number of presets which are well explained in the well written manual which can be adjusted, allowing it to be totally customisable to your room. It’s not complicated. A set of 5 buttons control the cycle, speeds, timer, level of desired humidity. All selected options are then clearly lit on the LED display.
There’s 2 speeds and 4 presets, so im even able to keep it in the utility room, to quickly dry laundry in the winter months when I hang them inside. I am able to ‘target dry’ a problem area of damp extracting the moisture from the room and, consequently, the wall at a high volume; the ‘air clean’ setting increases the air ventilation and the ‘auto’ setting keeps the moisture level in the room at the optimum level which is suited for very specific purposes such as DIY, craft work, pottery, and for growing tropical and sensitive plants and keeping certain cold blooded pets.
How Well Does it Work?
It removed a very pleasing 1.75 litre of water on average over the last 3 days, from the utilty and kitchen area when it has been left on this winter for drying laundry indoor,s and extracting the humidity generated from continuous cooking (lockdown has made the children gravitate towards food and cooking).
I am not suffering from any major damp issues at the moment, but for an excess of around 1.75 litre of water extracted from the most humid area in our home has meant that are clothes have dried rapidly! Without that awful damp smell we get when drying clothes in our colder utility which doesn’t get as warm as the rest of the house due to the air vents in there.
The Level of Sound:
The unit is nowhere near as loud as the industrial unit we hired not too long ago – that one sounded like a vacuum cleaner had been left on.
This one is comparatively quieter – not too dissimilar to the kitchen over-hob extractor whilst it’s on ‘medium’ power. If you are looking for something quieter for a noise-sensitive part of your home, such as in a children’s room, then you would need to decide whether you would be a able to withstand the noise.
In the kitchen/utility, the sound is downed out by our busy family, the usual goings on, the washing machine, music and the sounds omitted from cooking/baking appliances and the extracting vents.
Our Verdict:
Despite the steady deep hum, which can be grating if you’re very sensitive to sounds, we actually love this device. It outperformed our expectations – I was pleasantly surprised on the huge amount of moisture it managed to extract, in such a short time, even though we currently have no excess moisture related issues.
5 stars
This review is for the 2L version, so based on lower expectations than for a more powerful unit. This is a great little dehumidifier for small rooms, due to the lower power and smaller capacity. We have used it in our small, 9m2 spare bedroom which has a damp problem.
The operation of the unit is very simple, as there is only an of/off button. You are unable to set the preferred humidity level, unfortunately. The digital display shows the temperature of the room, along with the percentage humidity level. I’m pleasantly suprised with how much water this small unit pulled out of the air. After being on all day, around 350ml water was in the tray and the humidity level dropped from 64% to 52%. I have also noticed that clothes dry slightly quicker when the dehumidifer is placed near the drying frame, which is a bonus.
The device also comes with an air purifier, which should help with hayfever in the summer, but it also removes odours from the air and I have noted the air smells more neutral in the rooms we have been using it in.
Overall, it’s a great little unit, not noisy, very portable so easily moved between rooms and finally pretty powerful, given its small size.
I am reviewing the 2-litre dehumidifier. I will break my review down into several sections, covering set up, operation, noise level, and my overall thoughts.
*************************
SET UP
*************************
I usually don’t read instruction manuals when I get new technology. But on this occasion, I did flick through the booklet (which was all in English – no other languages). I’m glad I did, because the instructions (on page 6) recommend: ‘To avoid damage, place the unit in an upright position for at least 24 hours before first use.’ I am guessing that there is some kind of liquid or gas that needs to settle within the unit before it can work effectively (like the kind of liquid that you get in a refridgerator or freezer). So for once, I obediently left the unit for a night and day until the next day to try it.
*************************
OPERATION
*************************
Operation of the dehumidifier is very simple. There is only one on/off button.
I positioned the dehumidifier in our kitchen, which can get quite damp – especially when we have some laundry drying indoors and we are cooking a sauce that requires boiling off, for example. In the past, we have used chemical dehumidifiers, which have worked relatively well. In comparison to chemical dehumidifiers, this Black and Decker 2-litre dehumidifier is working very well. It drew maybe 200ml to 300ml of water from the air every day when we left it on continually (which was only on days when we felt we were generating more moisture in the kitchen). I guess the amount of water it can remove from the air depends on how damp a room is though: that it can remove much more water when the air is really damp.
This dehumidifier does also have an ionizer function (which is activated by pressing and holding down the on/off button for three seconds), but no one in our household is sensitive to allergens, so I can’t really say whether this made any difference to the quality of the air. Most importantly for us though, the dehumidifier did remove water from the air – and in a more effective, faster way than the chemical damp traps we have used in the past.
*************************
NOISE LEVEL
*************************
It is worth noting that the unit does generate a noticeable sound. It’s louder than the electric fans that we have in the house, but not as loud as the TV. Page 9 of the instruction booklet has a table (pictured in the second photo that I uploaded) and this says that the noise is 45 decibels.
The sound is not a problem for us as the dehumidifer is in the kitchen where we are usually cooking and often have music and the extractor fan on. But do be aware of this if you are looking for something really quiet to have say in your bedroom.

OVERALL
*************************
I’m pleased with this dehumidifier. It is removing a good amount of water from the air, which hopefully means that our kitchen will be less damp. In addition, perhaps clothes will dry a little bit faster. It does generate some low level noise, but we are fine with it given that we are not intending to sleep next to it.
With it being winter and us drying clothes inside more than usual, a dehumidifier is more essential than ever. We don’t want damp. We’re really limited on space so was chuffed when I got the chance to try this out. It’s a nice little compact unit that barely takes up any space. I’ve been using it for a month now and it works great.
We leave it on in the spare room 24/7 next to the clothes airer and it does a great job of extracting the excess moisture from the room to keep the humidity stable. I also work all day from the spare room and happily leave it on as I can barley hear it. It doesn’t extract a massive amount of water per day but it’s only a small unit and that’s why we leave it on 24/7.
I only need to empty it out every few days, you just slide the container out, empty it and pop it back in, simple! While it may not be as big and powerful as others, it’s so cheap to run that you can just leave it on 24/7 and not worry about it so I would definitely recommend it.
It’s small, quiet, attractive. It’s pulling moisture from the bathroom very slowly, but works. It is perfect for a bathroom but for a bedroom or living room it is a bit too noisey in my opinion.
At this cold time of the year I’m always looking for ways to reduce the water in the air so ordered this. It’s pretty small so is only for use in small rooms but it is great. It’s easy to use. Plug it in and switch it on. It hardly uses any electricity and switches off when full. Simply empty the container and repeat. For a larger room I’d have liked a bigger one but this one does the job in some of the small rooms I’ve got in my house.
The humidifier is actually alot bigger then i expected it to be I’ve tried several before and they are tiny compared to it still not too bad atleast it looks good and is already assembled and good to go the wheels make it easier to move around i have wooden floors so deffiently makes it alot easier for me
Price is affordable and it has various modes, holds 2.5L water tank which is removable so makes it easy to drain and clean
Pretty straight forward to use has auto use aswell so gives you that peace of mind all around good product really impressed
I am seriously impressed by this machine as I’ve only ever used a cheap de-humidifier. I put my clothes to dry in the spare room and normally have to leave all the windows open. The machine tells us to shut doors & windows to conserve energy. It’s easy to set up – having made sure that you’ve left it for 24 hours to ‘settle’ first, like a fridge.
I went into the room after about 45 minutes – and the air was dry and clean. There was no condensation at all on the windows, and my laundry was drying a lot more quickly than it normally does (even on a heated airer). The tank had clearly taken a lot of water out of the air.
I have left it on for the last few hours. I would say that drying time has halved. In addition to this, the machine is protecting my window frames and wallpaper which were getting bubbly and mouldy. (This was on the ‘dry’ setting)
I thoroughly recommend this appliance. It loses 1 star because I really think it could do with a gauge so you can see how much water is being collected. It does shut off when it gets full, but I think it would be useful to be able to see how far off that is!
This dehumidifier is quite big comparing to what pictures are showing. It’s portable, as well, can’t deny that but is quite big. Because if that there are some doubts – it is big but compact enough to be portable, at the same time can’t be used in rooms more than 6-7 square meters as will not be noticed a big difference, from my experience.
Still, it’s very simple in use, the container is detaching easy, the device is looking simple, no connect the power cable, turn the button ON and let the device do the job.
I found it very useful but more use will be felt in small rooms.
I’ve put this in our cold room, which often feels damp. although the rooms still cold the dampness seems to have subsided and with this running, I barely notice it on the smart meter being a drain the electric so thumbs up there. although I have it in rather a larger room it still seems to do its job for such a small little machine. A great little mini dehumidifie
Quite heavy but wouldn’t do without it this winter. This dehumidifier is brilliant. It’s compact and solidly built. I must say it’s also not the quietest, but it’s one of the relatively quiet ones. With background noise, such as TV and kitchen appliances or a washing machine, you can hardly hear it. the noise just blends in. comes ready to use and assembled. Love the wheels as they make it much easier to move around.
It draws water from the surroundings like magnet drawing iron powder and the capacity is great. The LED screen is very easy to read. I have been placing it near my laundry as the weather gets colder and it’s helping clothes dry so much quicker than without. I also use it near the windows to draw out condensation and excess water. I switch it on for about 4-6 hours each time and I feel a big difference.
It is very stable on the floor, easy to use and easy to empty and clean. Would recommend it without hesitation.

Impressive water extraction from the air from a relatively compact machine that packs in a lot of features considering the size.
Capacity for 12 litres of water, 2m plug to keep it powered on with an array of settings to tweak humidity ratio and keep your room damp free. This unit is ideal for smaller spaces and any areas prone to damp like utility areas, bathrooms or the kitchen. It is quiet running, not easily disturbing even left on overnight.
This isn’t (and isn’t meant to be) a high powered dehumidifier for major tasks. But it is very useful for small “spot” tasks – like aiding in drying laundry to keep damp out of the room. One of the main reasons I use it is because showering tends to set of my smoke detector on the landing. Having this running while showering seems to help (as it hasn’t gone off since). However, it’s dehumidifying seems a little slow, even given the size of the unit., so it’s not going to help much in any drastic situation.
So, it’s small & portable and reasonably quiet – quite dinky really. Comes with a 2m lead which matches the kind of task you’ll use it for as you’ll plug it in as and when needed in a given room.
I received 900ml model in nicely packed cover. It was white in colour and pretty cute looking. It did work efficiently. It’s really a space saving design helps to place it in a tiny space such as windowsills, countertops and under the sink. The power plug is in UK plug compatible, and cord is lengthier enough to cover most of the area. I placed it inside my cloth cupboards to extract possible water content from the cloths and is working fine especially immediately after taking it out from the cloth dryer and thus saving money and energy to run the heavy dryers.
I was able to assemble it within 15 minutes without any help from my hubby. Instruction is included makes assembly a breeze.
I have a finished basement with some humidity I wanted to keep in check, which got worse when I had guests showering down there. I picked this unit up expecting to need to empty it every week or so. In 60% humidity and set on “comfort” mode, it’ll fill up every 12 hours. 1.6 freaking gallons of water pulled out of fat air in only 12 hours! Amazing how well it works, so now I need to figure out how to plumb it in so I don’t have to constantly dump it the hard way. The reservoir isn’t too easy to remove or set back in place due to the tight fit, and each gallon is around 7.5 lbs, so consider the weight if you plan to empty it daily. Doesn’t bother me, but I wouldn’t buy this for my grandma.
Nothing against this product, but I’d like to add a simple way to collect the water and filter it for drinking. I’m dumping water down the drain from this unit, then paying the utility company for water to drink. It would be amazing if I could pull off combining the two. Just something I didn’t think of until after the purchase.
The bucket is decent size so I don’t think I would need to empty the water every so often in case I am away. The dehumidifier has roller options so I can move it around the house without dragging it across the room. The machine itself is not too heavy anyway. There are illuminating buttons on top of the machine (see pictures) so I can adjust it at night. I put it on comfort mode and run it 24/7 for the past 3 days. I know is working properly because it won’t be on at all time. It just keeping it at the humidity level that I set. Another thing I like about this dehumidifier is that the filter is washable, and it shows you alert when filter needs to be cleaned and if water is full so I don’t need to put out the bucket to check or forgot about emptying it. The machine itself is not too noisy compare to other that I had seen. I am getting another one for the basement too.
This cube like tower packs a punch in performance but also noise.
This was the second one received as the first one though made same noise didn’t remove moisture from the house. (The front horizontal light strip stayed red and didn’t change to green as it should once the machine has done it’s initial sensing of humidity about a minute ).
Customer service was fine and within a week or so I got the correct replacement device so I was able to do the review of it.
The settings are extensive and can go as low as only 30 percent humidity if you like the room very dry.
There are choices of low fan and high but even the low setting is very noisy.
This isn’t going to be suitable for areas where extraneous noise is a problem such as music studios or home recording areas or sleeping areas.
But the performance is very good and I see the price is not high for such a device. I removed about a bucket full which is several litres in the course of the day and the room started at 59 percent humidity and decreased by about 5 percent. The instructions say with continuous use it will perform better. So this first whole day of use will be the start of at least as good if not better performance! I know of course once it’s been running a while the overall humidity of the house will be less and so it won’t have to work so hard to get it down to chosen level. I chose 45 percent and it hadn’t reached that by bedtime but we have pets and I wouldn’t have wanted to subject then to that racket overnight. So it’s for day use only in my opinion.
I could have run it earlier but they say not to use it till a days standing upright in case topped in the delivery process. There is cooling agent inside which like in fridges and freezers must settle.
You can have continuous draining with a tube provided but it’s not very long so I’m not sure where it would reach. I think it is so it can go in a clear bottle next to it and then you would be able to see clearly and easily when to empty it. It would have run all day without needing emptying though I think. And it’s shuts off if full. You are warned by an alarm and light if you don’t push the drawer back in fully.
I’m giving it 4 stars as it’s so loud but gives high performance and is a reasonable price. (I didn’t buy it but I’ve paid similar or higher for air treating devices and I’d buy it at this price).
This is a very small and compact unit which has enough power to use in an average sized house, will pull up to 12 Ltrs a day, digital display and easy to use settings. Very easy to empty or or you can have it on direct to drain and never have to worry about it being full.
Not to sure the clothes drying option is any use as it did not dry mine but maybe you have to hang above for better results which then limits the amount you could dry.
Overall it is very good.
This mini dehumidifier from Black + Decker has been useful during these cold and wet autumn days. Even though the extraction isn’t amazing it’s relatively good for a machine of this size, up to 250ml in 24 hours is no slouch.
I use it daily to help with the daily build-up of moisture as well as using it as an aid for my wet laundry. Since it’s cold I’m resigned to drying my laundry indoors and the dehumidifier has helped no end.
The tank capacity is 900ml so you don’t have to empty the tank daily and you should be able to use it for a few days.
The outer casing of the Black + Decker is an attractive white casing with a blue ring that glows. Aesthetically pleasing in my opinion.
Overall a very good and portable dehumidifier that extracts moisture relative to its size.
Perfect for people living in flats or poorly ventilated spaces.
This dehumidifier is the perfect size for my kitchen. It fits neatly under my counter top and takes up roughly the same space as a large kitchen bin.
We’re running this in a fairly small bathroom with a tiny window that can’t be left open at night, so it is prone to damp if someone showers in the evening. The dehumidifier is very compact and almost silent despite having a fan in it. The photo shows one night of water collection, not hugely impressive but it’s a help and does make a difference.
We also have a very large and expensive Hitachi dehumidifier. A totally different beast, about waist high and a LOT louder. That pulls more water in to it’s bucket for sure, but can’t be run at night as you can hear the fan through a wall. No such problems with this little thing, you can hardly hear it in the same room.
So I think it’s a good compromise. It isn’t competitive with a full size dehumidifier. But it’s really compact and very unobtrusive. And super cheap.
So on balance it’s a good product. Just don’t expect it to dehumidify a whole house or active kitchen.
This dehumidifier is fairly hefty, but fortunately comes pre-assembled and on wheels.
It has various modes, but I ran it in clothes drying mode. After 6 hours running next to a clothes drying rack, the clothes felt considerably more dry, and the unit had extracted around I’d estimate 1.5 litres of water, since the 2.5L reservior was more than half full. Dropping detected humidity from 65% to 46% in that time.
Compared with a cheaper, smaller unit I have, this is pretty incredible, since that unit would extract less than 1 litre in 24 hours and only reduce humidity by about 2-3%.
If you have a damp cellar, or other room in the house, or you need to dry clothes but don’t have a tumble dryer (e.g. in a flat), this really could work wonders. Absolutely would recommend this unit.
We have an area of the house where water condenses on the tile floor and pools of water develop. A humidifier is the only solution we’ve found. It hums quietly away in the corner. The machine will turn off if the reservoir fills up, which is handy if you forget to empty it. I find that after two days of operations it’s close to capacity, which gives an indication of its effectiveness. It costs virtually nothing to run and has made a big difference to our problem. I think these small powered dehumidifiers are a much better solution than the passive ones that need new tablets every few days and will cost more in the long run. This little machine is perfect if you have a damp problem.
