The first thing I noticed is how big the unit it. It’s light for it’s size but unfortunately there’s no handles and the instructions advise for you to carry it at the bottom. On the highest setting it is very noisy but very effective so I tend to leave it on for 20 minutes for it to do it’s job before switching it off. I never use it during sleep so I can’t say how it is for noise but the lowest setting is probably quiet enough.
It is essentially a large fan that blows upward. You can probably use it as such if you separate the top from the filter.

The air filter is used in the living room and it is brilliant at its task. The air seems fresher, smells disappear. The machine was a bit larger then I anticipated but putting it behind the TV cabinet in the corner worked very well.

Not too noisy when in use, and air quality improves with great results. Worth the money.

After carrying out house renovations for the last year and struggling with dust I did a bit of research and found the Blueair 221 to be the best fit for my space.

Received it Thursday and have had it running full time since then. Not knowing it it’s actually doing much I checked the state of the pre-filter sleeve on the outside and to my disgust found it filthy with dirt and dust.

So it must be working. My only gripe was when removing the sleeve to put in the wash it literally fell to bits and I doubt will survive the wash.

Anyway I got hold of customer services and they gave me some cash back to buy another one.
So the unit looks like it works a treat but a little to be desired with the cloth pre-filter.

    Great product….Bu

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Usershands down the best purifier on the market. i’ve done extensive research on this and blue air comes up as the best generally right across the board. really easy to use – long-lasting thorough filter system and very quiet can’t ask for more

I definitely recommend this to somebody who has breathing difficulty, runny nose or anything like that. My son improved his condition after using this. It can be use as a fan as well during the summer. The noise level is quiet good.

    This product is benefitial!

Great product, speedy delivery, easy to install, stylish design, great value for money.
My younger daughter suffers from hay fever and it is very bad this year. She got itching eyes and keeps sneezing, can’t sleep at night. We have to keep her off school for a few days as her eyes were swallowed.
We have tried couple of air purifiers before, either it does not do the job or it’s too noisy.
After doing quite a bit of researches, we decided to give blue air ago, it been a game changer. It’s very quiet and She sleeps much better now. We are very pleased.
The only downside is maybe the cost of replacing the filter as it has to be changed every 6 months, it could be costly. But as long as she is not suffering from hay fever, it’s all worth it. Highly recommended

    Great value for money

Very impressed by the efficiency and coverage of the purifier, sounds very quiet as its running on low but loud is not necessarily loud either.

Definitely worth the money and air conditions in the home are definitely noticeable. Feel refreshed, breathable, less stuffy etc.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersCracking piece of kit. Was a little skeptical at first but wow! Amazing to see how much dust this take out of the air just from the pre filter. Not too noisy, in fact we leave on throughout the night for better air.
    Recommended product in my view

Like it’s effective reduction in dust created by our multifuel stove, the air feels cleaner especially during the extremely cold snowy period of weather we have had, which meant windows and doors were closed all the time. The fan is fairly quiet and doesn’t intrude into life.

I’m not sure how pure this makes the air but it is really good when there are some smells lurking from cooking so I think it is working well. It is also good when the weather is hot to keep the air circulating. It is very big though so you will have to think about a good location, however the good thing is that it can be put in the corner of a room, I have mine in the hall of my flat and it works well from there. The blue cover is very bright so I have put on the grey one which looks much better.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI have seen some comments: people were giving a bad review due to not cleaning the dust, let me tell you that if you buy one it will not replace your cleaning tasks, it will help but not replace you. As I can notice on the outer filter dust particles and as recommend by the manufacturer, you can hoover it whilst off. I definitely believe I made a good purchase.

This makes a huge difference to your workspace at home, if like many you have battled through a humid at home summer -whilst a weighty piece it doesn’t take up too much room and works at a pace from switching on-the difference is huge to the air quality. A very good piece of kit.

I got this air filter in hopes that it would help with my allergies to the family cat. After vacuuming the house I had it on the lowest setting which was great. Then as the week progressed and more cat hair accumulated I had it on the middle setting, again helpful as the allergens change day to day.

It is very quiet on lowest setting but a little louder on the middle setting, and very noticeable on the highest setting (but a ‘background’ sound that I’ve become accustomed to). I bought the smaller model for use in the bedroom, which was perfect for sleep and even seemed to cool the room at night (perfect for muggy nights). The smaller model is quieter on all settings, and more suitable for bedrooms as it is about 50% smaller than this model.

Both models are easy to plug in and use immediately, with no complicated controls. The fabric pre-filter can easily be cleaned in the washing machine and hung to dry (to avoid shrinkage). These products are of the highest quality and are thoroughly recommended for anyone with allergies, frequent blocked nose or breathing difficulties – it has really helped my own situation and I can’t really see a downside!

Is bigger than I thought but is really working. Fantastic help for everything and because they have activated carbon filters they really clean the air.
Removes the odour in your house really good and fast and is great to remove bacterias, virus and mould that was my main priority.
The noise is no very hight but you can feel when is working, in the end, you get used to.

The design is fine and you can place everywhere without a problem. I normally place it on my livingroom and anyway they help to clean the air around if the door is open. Is fantastic for baby’s room too and for any office.
Is really easy to use and assemble and they just let you know when you need to change the filter. Is a great machine, expensive but is it worth it. I recommend this Air Purifier With Combination Filter.

I have hayfever which is triggered by grass pollen. During the daytime, I work in an operating theatre, where the air is purified. My hayfever only becomes a problem when out walking or when asleep in my bedroom, which overlooks a large field.

I was therefore interested to see if this Air Purifier would make a difference to my nocturnal symptoms. The purifier is very simple to set up. It comes with a pre-fitted particle filter and a choice of two fabric pre-filters in light blue and navy. It was very easy to fit the pre-filter and in a matter of minutes the device was ready to use.

Operation is simple: one button toggles from off to low, medium and high fan speed settings. It is designed to achieve an air exchange rate of 5 per hour in a room size of up to 50 m2. My bedroom is only 15 m2 in area so well within this specification. By comparison, an operating theatre typically has 15 to 25 air exchanges per hour.

The device itself emits a fairly quiet “white noise” hum when used on the low setting, which is quite easy to fall asleep to. The glow above the fan speed switch is also unobtrusive.

I have now used the device each night for 3 weeks and can confirm that it does make a difference. I wake up with far less nasal stuffiness than before and can definitely notice the benefits of breathing purified air at night.

Overall, I am impressed by this device. I have tried other, smaller air purifiers in the past, but they have not had noticeable effect. This device is sufficiently powerful to make a difference without being too noisy that it disturbs my night’s sleep.

An air purifier which is powerful enough to be effective without being too noisy

We are new to the concept of air purifiers but with 2 indoor cats I am conscious that our home probably smells of cats so I was keen to give this a go. On first impressions it’s very large! It’s almost as large as our portable AC unit!
It comes with 2 outer covers – blue and dark grey, which reminded me of thick denier tights. It’s very easy to operate, just plug it in and press the large white button on the front to cycle through the 3 different levels of power. The default low setting is really quiet, the other 2 are certainly louder but offer more power. I’ll probably only use the highest setting when the room needs a boost to clear any cat pongs from the air!
The idea is that the outer cover helps to prevent things like large dust particles and hair from going into the machine as it draws the air through and filters it through an inner carbon filter and refreshes the air. So good so far. It’s currently been running in the room where the litter trays are, and I am hoping that by running it for a few hours a day in the morning and after meal times the air in the house will be more pleasant in general.
All in all, it’s a great bit of kit, however it’s very expensive! I would say it is very much a luxury item and a considered purchase….

With a household of two dogs and someone who suffers from a cough this is a great little thing.

It’s easy to set up as in you get it, take it out of the box and plug it in and away we go. It does come with two pre-filters that fit externally but I am guessing this is more for a colour scheme than being vital to the function.

There’s just one button and you press it a number of times depending on the speed/output that you want. It couldn’t be easier.

As it’s a basic machine with no real whistles and bells you are kind of relying on your own senses to see if it’s working. It has minimised smells and even if it’s only mentally you do feel the benefit.

It’s very quiet and I for one, a light sleeper, could quite probably fall asleep when it’s on it’s lowest setting. Even the higher settings aren’t too noisy, but by the same token you can hear it.

All in all, very happy with this and looking forward to the continued benefits.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThis is a very large air purifier, taller than an average coffee table and with the wind power of a stand up fan when on it’s highest setting.

For the high price and the powerful air purification, it is a very simple and basic unit, which I feel is lacking smart features and air quality monitoring features.

For the 350 this unit costs, I am surprised that it just features a power button which cycles through three fan speed settings and ‘off’. Each fan speed setting increases the rate at which it will recycle the air in the room, however even just on the lowest setting (which sounds like a slight and quiet gust of wind) it does noticeably improve the quality of the air in the room.

I have this running each day from 9am-12am on the lowest setting and there is a very obvious reduction in smells and dust, but I am a little disappointed that it does not include any air quality monitoring features as it is unable to increase the fan speed in the presence of poor quality air.

The unit includes a multi-layer removable filter inside, which filters out everything from dust to bacteria and VOCs, but also includes two stretchy material covers for the outside of the unit, which help to capture larger particles like hairs and dust to prolong the life of the main filter.

For the price and if you don’t need any additional features, this is a good unit, but it is not quite the best in this price range. It would be perfect in an office where it can just whir away in the corner for the whole day, but it is quite large for a home unit (it is taller than the table our TV is on), so I would caution against buying it for your home unless you find a suitable large space for it.

I’ve had this air purifier for just shy of a week and I’m loving it. I suffer from allergic rhinitis and my dog has a severe allergy to dust in all it’s guises. I decided when this arrived that I’d put it in our bedroom and see if it made a difference. It’s very simple to set up. It comes with two pre filters which are like little stretchy vests. At the moment I have the blue one on but it also comes with a grey one. These are washable. The actual carbon filters are inside the machine. If you put the pre filter on it makes the carbon filter last longer. The carbon filter lasts about six months and I guess this is with the unit on 24/7. You can buy replacement carbon filters and the unit has a built in warning that your filter needs changing. Anyway once you’ve put your pre filter on you just plug it in and tap the big button on the front…once for slow, twice medium and three times for high. The lowest speed is quite quiet , certainly less noisy than an electric fan. It’s almost like a background humming noise. You could sleep with it on unless you like complete silence. The really important bit is it purifies the air in a 50m square room 5 times an hour. This means less dust, smoke ( if this applies to you) less allergens and less pollen. I’ve definitely seen a difference. I can breathe better and my dogs skin is far less pink so it appears to be helping us both. I’ve also noticed less surface dust which is always a bonus. It does have a slight smell when you first start using it but persevere as this decreases over a few days. It definitely works better with the door closed and windows shut. I usually pop it on about 7pm and leave it running until we go to bed. It’s quite a lightweight unit, only 7kg so easy to move around the house. It’s 20.5 inches tall and 13 inches deep and wide. On the lowest speed it uses 30w up to 61w on the highest speed. I’m really impressed with this unit. Very simple to use and I’m already reaping the benefits. I’d definitely recommend to anyone who suffers from allergies. It’s a joy breathing purified air.

    Pure genius

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is a total beast of a unit. It’s the larger brother of the smaller one we were originally looking at, but I thought it would be better for a larger more open plan space. The size has one real benefit from my point of view, it means it has as really large diameter fan, which means it can shift more air at a much lower speed than the smaller versions, which means it has a much quieter and less irritating fan noise. I don’t know if the sound will come across well in the video I’ve posted, but basically on the lowest setting it’s a nice slow-and-low soothing sound rather than a grating high pitch whine or buzz, and this is still shifting as much air as my old faster noisier unit.

I’m REALLY impressed with the attention to detail, the fact they’ve actually gone to the effort to balance the individual fan blades is unheard of for any filter I’ve used before – you can see the balancing on the close up photo’s of the fans blades that I took through the mesh pattern, and I’m sure this has contributed to the much more pleasant tone of the fan.

I think the filter rating should be good for about 6 months usage. The inclusion of the two fabric wraps was interesting, not seen that before – there was a charcoal black and ad pure cyan blue version. I actually prefer the white unit to help blend in to the background, but I still wanted to use the elastic pre-filter to extend the life of the consumable part, so I wrapped it directly around the filter instead of the outer housing. This looks like it should still work effectively and it doesn’t obstruct the filter being reinstalled so it’s definitely a valid option from my point of view.

Looks modern, seems to be effective, much more unobtrusive noise than the smaller units I’ve had in the past.

Looks modern, seems to be effective, noise levels are great, shifts plenty of air.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is a great machine that does what it promises. Having been a hay-fever sufferer for years I got to dread every summer and every day that someone cut their grass. Keeping doors and windows open alone only helps a little.

I have used this machine every day since it arrived. Literally I could tell a difference straight away in the air, each day I have felt better. It gives me some relief before going out.

The only draw back is that it is a little louder than I thought it would be saying that though I still prefer feeling better.

It stands fine in a corner of the room as it doesn’t have to have a certain place to work. I am very happy with this machine. It makes a difference to me daily.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAir purifier for rooms up to 50sqm.
This is a mid sized unit, around knee high in height with a low noise level and 360 degree filter.
The unit is a very effective purifier, for my house hold of hay fever sufferers it has made a marked difference.
The noise level is noticeable, the tv needed an extra point up on its volume while this was running and if you want to use it in the bedroom to help with hot stuffy summer nights it creates a very noticeable white noise background sound.

It is good for all areas of the home and will help with cooking smells if used in the kitchen, but like all filters used in cooking areas this will decrease the filters lifespan.
We are finding it best to use in our bedroom overnight where it helps with hay fever symptoms.
