Bosch AHM 38 G Cylinder Lawnmower for a clean, precise cut – suitable for small lawn areas. The horizontally mounted cylinder of blades cut against a fixed bottom blade for a scissor-like cut. Need to keep blades sharp
Nothing to dislike! Mower is light in weight, easy to manoeuvre and totally on the green spectrum. I mainly use it to keep grass short around in our local cemetery. It means that the strimmers used by contractors doesn’t cause any damage to graves.
Fairly straightforward and cheap in longrun.
It was easy enough to assemble. The instructions claim there’s a washer in the kit, which was missing, and so was every Youtube reviewers that I checked, and every commenter.
That drops a star. Apart from that, it was easy to assemble.
It’s a little graft pushing it compared to a motorised unit, but actually works well once in the swing of it. Going to save hundreds on electric or petrol with this, and it was affordable enough to buy in the first place.

I love the no nonsense of this mower. No faff no cords, the blades are super sharp. It’s lightweight and easy to push. Sometimes collect the grass but it also counts fine enough to not bother as doesn’t leave the grass in clumps. Easy to keep clean and store
The only thing so far that lets this mower down imo is the grass box, overfill it and it spills out the grass when removing the box to empty it but it doesn’t really hold a lot of grass unless you overfill it, otherwise it’s a good little mower that does pick up any spillage afterwards, it doesn’t need a wire, that in my case would wrap around the tree and doesn’t need a battery that runs out just as you’re almost finished mowing. It doesn’t use electricity either so isn’t expensive to run. I have found it will cut longer grass without problems but it doesn’t like bits of branch end’s that are blown from the tree, they get stuck in the cylinder, whereas the electric mower chewed them up. It’s no fuss getting it in and out of the shed, which is a joy, because even though it’s wider than my old mower it doesn’t take up as much room, it’s presses up against the wall of the shed and the box hangs from the handle, so saves me space and there’s no need for putting up the handles and tightening screws that fail after a couple of years use. Unfortunately my lawn is fairly uneven and my hover mower did not cope well with the various dips. I therefore decided to purchase a cylinder rather than a rotary mower, which I hoped would produce better results. I have various Bosch tools of consistently high quality so this model was an obvious choice for me. It is very well made and, due to the gearing, requires minimal effort to use and produces excellent results. If you are a Prime customer like myself and are used to next day deliveries, note that this has to come from Germany, and in my case, took a week to arrive. The only other thing I would mention is the assembly instructions which are pretty useless. There are however You Tube videos available. At a little over 60 you will not find a better mower than this one.
Good with drawbacks
I like that it is quite compact, always ready to use. The quality is good – we’ve been using it for 5 months, everything still works, seems quite robust.
But there are several drawbacks you need to be aware about this kind of lawn movers.
First, it cannot deal with long grass. So, you need to make sure you don’t allow it to grow above the threshold. Second, you need quite a flat surface. Third, it requires some force to operate, not much, but I’d think some people may find it difficult.
Perhaps the only annoying feature of this mower is that the bin gets detached randomly and relatively often when you hit a bump.
Again, this product is good and robust. I imagine the drawbacks above apply to all mowers of this kind.
Better than petrol and electric mowers
Both my neighbours use electric mowers and my grass looks better… I’ve used many different mowers, petrol and electric and my grass has never looked better/shorter. I should get commission I’ve got that many people to buy one of these. Unreal. I’ve even used it in the rain and it work a treat, got to get the grass cut rain or shine.
