I find this thing a joy to use. It is light, sand paper is easy to swap. It is accurate, I get very little vibration from it. The dust removal is good but has to be emptied often and the filter clogs up fast. You need strong hands to change the dust capturing compartment.

Received the Bosch random orbital sander professional 125-1 240v AE today, opened the blue plastic case for the sander, found manual in German, the hose adapter missing, haven’t tried the sander yet so I cannot comment on the performance, unfortunately doesn’t tell you what should be in the box, the only reason I can see the adapter missing, a adapter shape is impressed inside the plastic case with an arrow pointing to an empty compartment, only giving two stars until I tried the sander out, hopefully more stars too follow? Update, I used this sander on all my walls after a third coat of paint, sander as done a fantastic job on my walls, using a hose connected hardly any dust, very quick job, very happy I purchased this sander.

Compared to a previous sander I had this is quite and lighter so was much easier to sand a recently skimcoated ceiling in terms of strain on the shoulders. The smaller size also makes it easier to sand on smaller surfaces

Comes with the dust collector but no hoover connection although there is a space in the case for it. Although more expensive it is far greater quality than the cheap ones. Only Comes with one sanding disk so buy more if you need to use it straight away.

Good quality and comes in a plastic hard case.

I’ve used this for sanding down my kitchen worktops so I can refinish them, along with some other light woodwork here and there, it’s proven very capable. I’ve even used it for polishing head lamps, I can’t really grumble!

Just buy it….robust, relatively quiet and achieves perfect results. From 80 to 400 grit in a few passes I finish sanded a 3M x 45cm douglas fir worktop in my garage workshop ready for a Danish Oil finish. 3 coats, 400 grit light sanding then final coat =Mirror finish.

Frankly I have used a palm sander for years but never stretched to a decent orbit sander and I’m glad I did. I have a number of large Bosch power tools (pillar drill, table saw and drill) and you cant beat the quality.

Good quality product.Works very well. Can.t complain. It replaced Dewalt orbital sander which was super slow to spin and once applied pressure to sand down almost stopped. This Bosch addressed all Dewalt shortcomings. It.s Bosh Professional after all.

So wish I’d bought an orbital years ago. This is light, recovers dust well and provides a great finish if you scale your pads down as you go.

Good little sander for the money.
Pros: Value for money. Long cable Dust collector works well. Good solid case. Multispeed. Easy to change discs. 3 year warranty. Good finish. Easy to use and change discs

Cons: Only comes with one sanding disc. not cordless.

Overall quite happy, left a good finish and dust collector worked well. Dont use cheap sanding discs as they wont last.

I think the Bosch Professional GEX1251AE2 is good value for money it seems well made and easy to use the carry case is good quality. I’ve had no problem attaching the sandpaper the collector seems to do a good job containing the dust.

Love the item, however severely disappointed that the item was sent in a cardboard box & not a hard plastic case. I checked most of the reviews & asked if the item comes in a Bosch plastic case & was advised that it should. Well it didnt! I will now have to buy one at my own cost. You would think that spending almost 200 you would at least get a case with it. All my tools are Bosch & i have cases for all of them & a number of them were cheaper than this item. Very disappointed in the seller for not stipulating this clearly. Will advise others to purchase elsewhere, where a case is guaranteed with the item.

Excellent sander. I bought this to replace my extremely old Makita and I’ve got to say I’m definitely not disappointed only wish I’d of got one earlier. Easy to use comfortable and the dust collection is fantastic. I love it.

Bought primarily for light finishing work, and after a brief trial it seems to be a capable little sander.
Lightweight, easy to control and plenty powerful enough for the intended use. Dust extraction is great – the dust box is fine for small jobs, but you’ll want to hook it up to an extract for bigger jobs. The dust connector is a perfect fit for the standard connectors on my Bosch and Fein dust extractors, so not sure why the complaints regarding the size?
I’ve seen a few bad reviews on this unit, but don’t feel they’re justified. It’s a lightweight finishing sander, which it does well. If you’re looking for to do high removal work with course grits then this is the wrong machine for you.

bought to replace the works 150 gex model of the old shape(polisher angle grinder shape body).
and everyone is impressed with it, the dust box actually collects dust really well and the first sander ive used where i filled the box up that has never happened before.
holds a disc well even cheap ones that fly off cheaper sanders and fits in the palm of one hand when using, i operate this one handed i can change the speed, on off swithch and control the device with just my palm on top.
nice long cable. only one disc supplied tho.
quiet yet powerful for its size.

Pretty happy with this in general but only downside is the dust collector seems to leak a lot, ie it isn’t very tightly fitted so tends to let a lot of dust out.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have been using DeWalt, Bosch and Makita sanders for a long time. Belt sanders, orbital sanders, detail sanders and now this random orbital sander from Bosch.

The Bosch doesn’t stand out as anything special, but it is certainly as good as the others, and it has one advantage in that it comes with a case as standard. Especially if you store your tools in a damp area then a case is absolutely essential. And it’s just so much better to have everything organised rather than scattered about the garage in who knows what box!

Dust extraction is very good, about the same if not a little better than the DeWalt, Festool, Makita etc. Comes with the filter attached. Twist and pull to remove it to expose the attachment for a vacuum. The filter works very well but of course adding a vacuum give much better dust collection. The attachment is small because you really need a very light flexible pipe to the vacuum for such a small light sander. The best thing I found was this Karcher adapter, which is sold by Amazon amongst others..

“Krcher Special Suction Hose Power Tools (Diam. 20 Mm / Long. 1 M)”

It’s a lot cheaper than the Bosch adapter.

Vibration for the Bosch is very good indeed. This, I think, is one of the main selling points here. It is not the most powerful but it certainly has the least vibration.

Overall an excellent machine. And if my previous Bosch Pro sanders are to judge by then it should last a lifetime.

It’s very quickly become my “go to” general purpose and finishing sander.

After much research I decided on this sander. I must say I am totally delighted with it so far. Very comfotable with next to no vibration, its also very quiet so long sanding sessions will be a dodle.
The dust box is a bit fiddly, easy to remove, just twist it. But can be tricky to open, but definitely not a deal breaker

Very happy and would wholeheartedly recommend

Sanded my entire living room with this and it is fantastic!
Initially purchased a non branded sander which was not fit for purpose and broke after one use so thought I would go for a top brand and I wish I had done this to begin with! Easy to use, the branded sanding disc lasts longer than the none branded ones but ideally should come with more than 1. Comfortable to hold as I was sanding all day and no aches or pains the next day! The dust collecting compartment is good too, obviously doesn’t collect all the dust but does help. Would defo recommend to anyone and it is worth paying that little extra!

I have had several of this type of sander over the couple of years and they all died, luckily within warranty.
This one definitely seams much better quality and it does keep hold of the sanding discs. This seams to be a huge problem with many sanders with a velcro fixing. So far I have only needed to replace sanding pads because they are worn out and not because they won’t stay on the sander.
If you buy this, don’t forget to go online and register the product with Bosch to get the extended warranty

I needed to use a power sander on a refinish walnut coffee table , i have 2 power sanders already (i will not disclose the brands) but they were cheap. They both left sanding rings in the wood, I checked out what the guy on “The repair shop” used and bought the Bosch. I now have a beautiful sanded surface with no marks. a fantastic machine .

Fantastic sander however does not come with the handle shown in images and comes with no carry case. I buy Bosch professional typically that you get everything including cases to protect the equipment. Fantastic sanding though and feels great in the hand.

This is a great sander. I bought it to use with an extraction system and it is a bit fiddly with that, having quite a small exhaust hole. I have perseverd though and can now use it even for walls and ceilings. For small jobs, I have discovered that the dust collector on the sander actually works! This is a first for me and a nice surprise.

The sander is quite light and easy to manoeuvre and generates very little vibration, considering.

As long as you avoid the cheapest discs this should give years of satisfactory service.

I’ll admit, this is the first one that I have owned, so I can’t compare. Also, I have only used on one project so far – a small piece of wood, but I did sand it using 5 different grades of paper. Impressed by how little vibration there is (compared to a Bosch PSM 18 Li multi-sander). On/off switch easy to reach on the front side, the back side has the speed control wheel. As you can see from the photo, I have connected to a Bosch EasyVac3 WITHOUT using an adapter! Amazon does the ‘people often buy with’ an adapter, but it is not needed when connected to the Bosch EasyVac 3 (which is a great little unit too if space is a premium and you can’t afford a bigger workshop vac). VERY LITTLE DUST when using the vac attached!

Overall, a pleasure to use and very happy with my purchase so far!

    Fantastic random orbital sander!

I bought this for sanding where manoeuvrability is necessary – my 150mm sander is harder to twist and move and more suited to working on a large surface on a workbench. This sander can be easily around on various angles and vertical surface. I think powered dust extraction is essential and it has an outlet that fits securely on my Bosch vacuum. I prefer this to the supplied dust bag.
Changing the discs is easy and it seems to be braked because it stops very quickly.
My only gripe is the on/off rocker switch which is not intuitive and is not ideally placed. I have to look at it to see which ways to press it.
Nevertheless, I am pleased with this tool and I use it frequently.

Really great product. It picks up most of the dust, far more than other sanders I’ve used even with a vacuum cleaner attached. Just a note for other users – make sure you wait for it to get up to speed before putting it on the wood, and most importantly keep it moving in circle motions, to prevent scratches on the wood. Don’t keep it in one spot and push down because it will ruin your piece of work – this is not a belt sander. That said, when used correctly, it truly is an amazing sander. Lightweight and versatile. Recommend this sander, which can double up as a polisher too with the right polishing pads.

My wife got this for my birthday, and its now really dirty as I sanded down some fairly rough cut 25mm thick waney edge oak boards. The oak is fairly tough, and the sander puts up with my abuse. I buy bosch blue as I can give them a hard time, knowing they will still work job after job, this sander is no exception.

I had a chess coffee table made of solid oak, the planks are a couple of inches thick and I remember my mum getting it in the 80’s. The varnish got very tired, and this sander smoothed it over, and with some new varnish and I have a new table. No more dents and cuts in the wood.

I varnished a shelf, and it looked bad, boom, sander removed my 3 layers in no time.

It collects dust really well compared to other sanders I have had, and like others, emptying the little bin requires some effort to lift the two sides apart, but every time I do it, I am amazed at how much dust is in there. It has a dust extractor port for those with a dust extractor. I use mine outside, and I don’t feel like coughing after a long time sanding, so thumbs up from me there.

When sanding at an angle, or the thin sides of things, dust does start to escape as the collection holes in the base plate aren’t covered that well.

Changing the sanding paper discs is easy, I got a selection pack of non Bosch ones from amazon, and they stick well to my bosch sander. I have had the same disc on for a while now, for those quick and dirty mitre saw cuts in pine, and while the paper is looking rough, the foam disc underneath is still in very good condition.

It required a single pass today to sand down some pine studwork I am using to make a router jig, it ripped through a plywood top layer in no time and its small enough to hold for long strectches of time with hardly any tingling in the hand after that I got from my previous wickes sander or B and Q cheapo sander.

It comes in a plastic case, but it’s not an L-boxx, so I can’t fit it to the top of my l-boxx stack and there is not a lot of room in the case for the sandering discs, and putting the power cable away is getting old, as I have to coil it up then stuff it in…

I use tools to do a job well and not mess about, this sander does that. It sands, is fairly tidy, and I can use it for long periods of time, time after time. Job done.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI’ve used the GEX 150 AC (as a hobbyist woodworker and DIYer) for a couple of years now. I got a good Black Friday deal on it (~105) and at that price it has been absolutely superb value. The auxiliary front handle (~4) makes the ergonomics much better and really ought to be included with the sander. The dust extraction is normally faultless (esp. with net type abrasives like Mirka Abranet) and the sanding performance is great. If you lift/angle the sander to hit a smaller area then dust can escape, and sanding can be more aggressive/faster. Vibration seems to depend a lot on how you hold it but once you find a good grip then the vibration can be minimal; likewise noise levels are fine. Finally, it has proven itself quite robust, surviving a drop from ceiling height onto a hardwood floor while running with no apparent damage. The only spare part I’ve had to replace in several years of use is a rubber gasket/seal between the sanding pad and the body of the sander.

Recommendations for woodworking: get a Mirka Pad Saver, and use either Abranet or 3M Cubitron II abrasives.

Having only used cheaper orbital sanders before this is quite a step up in performance and quality. I would highly recommend buying, especially if you can get at a discount price!! Although if you can’t then I would still recommend it.

The one fly in the ointment is the size of the dust port and connectors for it, but it is no big deal to fashion something to fit (look at the review by Chris Hawkins on Aug 06, 2018 his idea seems to work well).

All in all a very good investment.

Seen this Bosch Sander used & recommended in conjunction with a pad on a you-tube clip for sanding down a kitchen work bench so bought them both and wasn’t disappointed. Did exactly what was highlighted on the clip on You-Tube. Very handy to have the option for 125/150 discs, can also be used for polishing too.. Great buy as Amazon had it on a great daily deal of 179.99 opposed to the normal circa 250 price tag, so winner winner chicken dinner. Good investment for future DIY projects.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersI thought that this biy of kit seemed expensive. Ive used many sanders before- for house and boat renovations- and generally find that the cheaper ones may do the job but noisily, with considerable vibration and poor dust control.
I have Reynauds and after 20 minutes using a normal sander, my hands become numb and further use would resulyt in vascular damage. I can use this machine for 20 minutes and feel no ill effects. The dust extract system is good- you should still use a facemask thought to deal with the residual output- and the noise levels areok.
Dont buy cheap disks- one lot I bought fly off the velcro pad after less than 2 minutes. Cheap Chinese rubbish.

My old cheap sander broke 🙁 , and getting new pads for my old Bosch multi sander proved impossible. So now sanderless and 5% of the way through a job, I trundled off to a national DIY chain store and bought one of these. It was on offer at 65, looked better than any other sander, so without reading and prevaricating over any reviews. I just bought it! So now I can sand without much dust (yay!) at different speeds (yay!) and much quicker than before (double Yay! My revamped kitchen table is magic, so it’s already paid for itself.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersI am a serious amateur woodworker and DIY enthusiast and I have a lot of power tools. Within reason, I like to buy the best nowadays – couldn’t do that when I was younger.

This sander is probably one of the best tool purchases I ever made. I have used it almost every day for 8 months now and it performs flawlessly and beyond my expectations. It is quick and convenient to switch between 125 and 150mm sanding discs. Using 150mm provides for about 40% greater coverage. The power along with the excellent variable speed control gives great results – I tend to use grits between 40 and 240 and am able to get the finish I want with great predictability.

It’s most outstanding feature is the vibration control, which allows you to use the tool for extended periods without discomfort. I didn’t realise how good it was until I reverted to my previous Bosch sander for a very dirty job and found it unusable!!! Had to use my pride and joy for the dirty job.

Dust extraction is excellent – although I have never used the included extractor vessel. Getting an adapter is easy – just search an auction site for a silicone straight reducer – just measure the inside/outside diameters of the Bosch’s port and your extractor hose and buy accordingly [Hint: the one I purchased was internal diameters of 35mm (fits standard hoover hose) to 28mm (attached to sander)] I added a jubilee clip for security – see photo. It will cost about 5 and being silicone, it will hold the hose well without fear of it becoming detached – it’s never become detached.

I can’t find fault with this machine – no regrets and very happy.

    Outstanding

Golden Review Award: 39 From Our UsersThis is a very nice sander indeed: well made, powerful, comfortable and flexible to use ( the ability to lock on, use variable speeds and change hand positions).

The sander comes in a sturdy cardboard box, with a dust collection adapter, a sample paper dust bag, a sample sanding disk and the usual wedge of instructions.

It feels like quality in the hand: the cable, switch, speed selector dial, the rubber moulding, the plastics: they are all high quality. In use it is very powerful, not too noisy, it produces really professional results ( with quality 150mm perforated disks), dust exctraction is very good with the plstic adapter, better again when connected to a vacuum system. Is it as good as a Festool sander? No, but it is less than half the price of a Festool.

You can buy this in various kits which include cases or plastic dust collectors and an auxiliary handle ( which screws onto the front) but in my experience it was massively cheaper to buy the accessories I wanted separately (that handle is less than 4, plastic dust collector is about 10 – the kit was 50 more when I looked).

I understand that people can be unhappy that it doesn’t come with a hard case/ plastic dust collector/ additional hand grip, but in my experience, this type of tool sits on a workshop bench and is connected to a vacuum dust extractor. I have umpteen hard cases with nothing in them..it is nice not to have to pay for things you don’t need/ want. What would be useful is if it came with a trial pack of abrasive disks in different grits: they are excellent, but lots of folks won’t try them because they are pricey compared to the no name ones you have to change every 5 minutes….

    Top tips:
1: Try using it with a lambswool hook and loop bonnet (and Lord Sheraton’s Caretaker Balsam) to polish wood furniture: low speed, no dust extractor connected: really impressive results and no effort at all.
2: Don’t forget to register it online within a couple of weeks of receiving it to upgrade your warranty from one year to three years!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI really like this sander. Comfortable and quiet to use. Excellent dust collection, so good the good sized canister needs to be emptied every 15 minutes of continual use. Worth noting- the dust canister needs a good wack to lock it into position, otherwise it come off during sanding. It removes with just a simple twist.

Golden Review Award: 22 From Our UsersI have been using a Festool random orbital sander recently and was horrified to find the retail price for these beauties are over 400!

With that in mind and after doing some research I decided to go for the Bosch GEX 125-1 AE at a quarter of the price. Well, what a great sander! It does exactly the same job as the Festool, creating very little dust and is not too noisy. It comes with a carry case (thumbs up!) and one sanding disc (not very generous!)
However, there is a space in the case for a dust extraction adapter that is not included in the price. None of my dust extraction hoses or adapters fit the Bosch and finding out which size to buy is almost impossible. However, the hose from a friends Festool dust extractor does fit if thats any help.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our Usersgreat sander for every day use (4 stars for not being extractor / vacuum friendly)

    pros
vibration is very little hence can use for long periods
    decent length cord
big plastic box with carry handle very sturdy

    cons
for use with external extraction a special adaptor is needed as it will not fit with any vacuum or extractor unless its Bosch (annoying)

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersJust received this sander and am very pleased by a trial use on an internal door. Super smooth after a couple of seconds using the supplied sanding disc. Excellent value at @ 150 – however, the paper dust bag is very poor and it certainly needs a front handle grip. I have had to order from Amazon the grip and plastic dust box and perhaps this should really be included in the package.

Having used pneumatic random orbits in the past at work I knew what to expect in terms of performance.
The thing that blew me away is the dust collection on this beauty. I had a bad day and made a compete hash of plastering a wall in my lounge. Rather than re-skim I decided to show it the business end of my shiny new sander. Using Abranet discs the whole wall is now lovely and flat and there was hardly any dust created (much to the delight of my other half). Using my good old sheet sander to tidy up a door frame recently left a fine layer of dust over the whole house (much to the disgust of my other half).
The Bosch is quite a big machine, and obviously never going to get into a corner, but for large areas and sheet material this is now my weapon of choice!
    Powerful, effective, and clean.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBought as an upgrade from a Bosch PEX 400 AE (which was a great sander), but the Bosch GEX 125-150 is even better. Used all day and the vibration dampening is EXCELLENT! Highly recommended if your in the market for an orbital sander. Delighted with my purchase.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersHaving some house renovation done recently and I needed to sand down door frames after removing paint. I’ve used a few sanders in the past, cheap ones and they always leave my hand tingling/vibrating after using. Not to mention all the dust they produce. This however is totally different, you can tell when you take the item out of the box it is made from much better quality materials and is so much easier to use.

I was going to go for a cordless option but was worried about the power and changing batteries, I’m glad I went with this one instead. I was sanding for at least an hour straight and didn’t feel a thing, no tingling, no vibration.

The disc part is adjustable so you can use 125mm or 150mm I believe which is great depending on area you are sanding. Baring in mind I’m just a regular DIYer, so I’m sure other professional users can give you more detail.

As far as I’m concerned, this was a good investment especially since I’ll need to repaint the house soon and this will undoubtedly make it easy. I know it costs an arm and a leg vs the cheap ones but if you’ve got a lot of work to do it will be worth it. In any case if you dont need sell it, would still work out cheaper than renting/buying cheaper nasty one and yield better results.

Another classy product from Bosch. Although I’ve seen it described as entry level i don’t know what they mean I can’t imagine the 300+ ones doing much better.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBeautifully well engineered sander as you would expect from Bosch. Comes in a fitted plastic case with a 150mm and 125mm sanding plate, a couple of discs to get you going and a dust filter. Low vibration in use and makes light work of extensive painting preparation jobs.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI’ve owned a number of sanders over the years/ This is by far the best, having a “polished” finish almost like planing.
it has great ergonomics and is comfortable in use, with very little vibration finding its way to the operator’s hands.

The finish the sander produces is first class and the variable speed gives a great deal of control to the work rate.

Dust collection without a vacuum take-off is nothing short of amazing. Very little dust escapes the clip-on collection box which is easy to remove but a complete swine to open up, requiring perseverance and brute force and the use of nasty words. It may improve with frequent use but I haven’t got that far yet.

Unfortunately Bosch have been complete buttocks and do not include a vacuum dust extractor adapter with the sander. The very nice case which comes with the sander has a _space_ made for the adapter to clip into, almost as of it had been designed to be included from the off.
One can almost forgive Bosch’s rank profiteering if the requisite part was easily obtainable, but no, Bosch are notoriously difficult at supplying information about what fits what
As far as I understand,, this

Bosch 2600306007 Adapter for Random Orbit, Orbital and Multi-sanders

may be the appropriate adapter. Internet forums and reviews are full of tales of owners being completely baffled and receiving adapters which claim to fit but don’t. I have yet to find out for sure.

Apart from the vac. dust spout issue, I can’t fault this stunning little machine and in spite of the niggle, I’n going to give it many, many stars.
