Quality feels so much better than what it’s replaced.
Minor comments..
There is a 3 light thing on the charger, reading instructions dont know what it does or means. Didnt light up. Charging/charged is clear and power left is indicated on drill when using which is great. 2 batteries is also great.
In case, there is space for drill with battery and cor spare battery (and charger). There is slot to have 2nd battery stored off the drill but its very very tight.
Niggles. Happy with purchase
There’s nothing I don’t dislike about the drill, I have only just started to use it, so I don’t know anything about the battery life, so it’s unfair for me to comment on it, I have a Bosch cordless screwdriver I’ve had for a couple years and have had no problems with it so if my Bosch drill tunes out to be the same then yes I’m a hundred percent happy.
Bought to replace a 30+ year old Black and Decker corded drill. Cordless excellent for outside jobs. So far used for a couple of small jobs with masonry drilling and screwdrivering and been excellent. Do well if it’s as reliable as my old B&D! Not had long enough to review battery life
I finally had to replace my old drill after many years of service and decided on this model. I have not been disappointed! It is light weight and plenty powerful enough for most jobs around the home. The batteries last for ages without needing to be recharged. Batteries recharge quickly. It feels and looks like a good quality product and would certainly recommend for the home DIYer.
I bought this particular model as i wanted something that had enough power to screw through 25mm roofing boards without too much trouble. This Bosch has plenty of power and did the job with ease. Light enough to handle up on the shed roof and having two batteries is an added bonus saving hanging about whilst a battery is recharged. The old adage that you get what you pay for is very true here. There are cheaper units but they do not have sufficient power to drive the screws through timber. Also comes with a good quality storage case … So overall a good bit of kit.
I bought this to replace a Black & Decker one where the battery had failed. I did a medium sized decking project and I can say the battery on this didn’t disappoint. It managed to do at least 300 screws before I needed to swap for the second battery. The torque is good too. Comfortable to use. I would not hesitate recommending this.
Registered at Bosch home and garden website and received a 3 year warranty
Function modes, drill, screwdriver and hammer, adjustable torque and a quick release chuck
What’s not to like, it does a very good job and with two batteries no job is too big
I brought this as a birthday present for my self.
I couldn’t use my husbands big hefty one!
This is perfect for me! I’ve been doing so much drilling with it.
You know, all the shelves that he will do when he gets home! 😉 well no need to ask him anymore!
It even has a little light so you can see where your drilling!
Comes with 2 batteries!
Came with the extra battery but never needed it so far – good battery life.
Lightweight so easy to manoeuvre and built in light is useful.
I did purchase the kit with additional drill bits but worth it in my opinion to have quality bits.
Don’t know if this meets tradesmen’ requirements but more than suitable for average person such as myself. Definitely a good investment as a handy tool.
As with most things Bosch this product is well made and a lot of thought has gone into the design from an ergonomics and ease of use perspective. Throughly recommended. I worried as I am not a DIYer if I would get used to it. After 5 minutes I had forgotten it was new to me.
I’ve used this now to build 3, 200 litre wooden planters. I have also used this to lay 40 4.8 Meter decking boards no lack in power and every screw saw put it perfect. We also just put together a 4.2 meter by 1.3 meter raised vegetable bed. We used 200mm screw bolts to fix all the railway sleepers together. This had no problem with this difficult job.
Over all I’ve been very impressed with the Bosch driver. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is in need of a great driver with 2 batteries.
Bought this from Amazon when it had a very good lightning deal.
The drill comes in a sturdy and spacious case, ideal for storing and protecting the drill.
The drill comes with two 18V batteries and a super-quick 1 hour charger.
The drill is lightweight, easy to use, comes with an instruction booklet and 3 year warranty!
Very professional look, feel and spec for a very low price.
Only downside is that it only comes with 1 screwdriver attachment, where as other drills may include a set.
Overall, very pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend. The spec of this drill is very good, without spending big money
This was bought to replace a cordless drill & screwdriver which had both lost the ability to hold charge. It’s a fantastic bit of kit. The two batteries charge quickly and last a long time (I’ve not had to recharge either at the time of writing this). The drill is lightweight and has plenty of room in the case for spare drill bits and screwdriver attachments etc. Well worth the money.
Really good drill, bought 3 years ago and has been reliable every since. Used for all household jobs as a drill and driver.
Battery lasts a long time, put up an entire fence on one charge.
Will just about drill into concrete block on hammer mode but if you need to do this regularly I would recommend a different drill.
This item is exactly as shown in the product images. Very light weight and easy to use. A light pull on the trigger lights up the battery indicator. This is my second Bosch drill now. It comes with a screw head included & 1 battery attached to the drill. Box contains 1 spare battery and charger. Manuals for each item in the top section. Box has space for drill bits and safety goggles etc.
Good drill to have around the home for light improvements and hobbies.
Features I find useful: extensive battery life, torque setting, built in light, drill speed control.
Two cons:
1) only comes with a screwdriver tip, no drill bits. For the price I expected at least a basic starter set. Be sure you buy the bits if you don’t already own a set.
2) the plastic case is comedy size (too large). It fits the drill, charger, spare battery, plus loads of other stuff like bits and kit, but doesn’t fit in my storage cabinet where all the other tools live. Considering to bin the storage box.
All things considered, I’d recommend this drill to any average DIY’er.
Powerful, reliable and comes with two batteries so you can complete even large jobs. If using outside make sure you keep it dry as if moisture gets inside the unit will stop working (the battery lights will flash when you pull the trigger but nothing else will happen). To rectify just put the drill in a warm and dry place for a few hours and once it’s dried out it will work like normal. I imagine if a lot of water get’s in it will be curtains so be careful in the rain.
Bought this as it was very cheap on prime day offer. I usually use plug in tools as I always have power available but sometimes it would save getting an extension out. Was plasterboarding a ceiling so decided to try it out. It has reasonable torque as a driver and driver and for the small battery the life was good. I would have to say I am much more impressed than I expected. For a DIY grade tool it is pretty good.
The drill is fantastic, and the control on trigger is awesum, the battery tells you how much life is left, the light is perfectly in place for those jobs where its a little dark. I was torn between the newer model and this one but I liked the look of this one it looks more ruggid lol and with prime day deal of nearly 30 off it was a fantastic buy, I was planning on buying in a couple of months but with the deals on prime day this was perfect buy well chuffed with it only downside is that I couldn’t get the warrenty as it kept saying password doesn’t fit critieria gutted
Still working 40 months after I purchased it.
I plan to buy another one whenever this one needs to be replaced!
Good battery life , lightweight and eBay to use. If I had a slight criticism or observation its that the tork on screw is slightly lower than I like so if you are doing a lot of heavy duty work then consider upgrading to a higher spec
Purchased a Bosch IXO screwdriver a year or two ago and been impressed with it. My non-branded cordless drill recently started seizing up the chuck, so I got this Bosch. A fraction of the size. Lightweight. Didn’t even know it comes with a great torque control grip that’s easy as. Charge level indicator, as well as light is handy, as is the fwd/reverse indicator. My only minor grip is the fwd/rev switch. Kept getting it in wrong direction, unsure if there is some industry standard, but my old drill was the opposite for clockwise/anti-clockwise turning.
The additional 70pcs of bits is a wise additional investment. Looking forward to my next 18V Bosch purchase.
Charge seems good so far. Good weight. Good case. Does what it says on the case.
This is a very good drill. I have used it for a couple of jobs, including mounting a 55″ TV to my living room wall.
I was surprised how compact and light it is. But it provides a lot of power for home DIY.
The batteries are very good and are quick to charge. It comes with a sturdy box to provide a home for everything when not in use.
No drill bits are included apart from a single screw driver bit.
Another very good product at a reasonable price from Bosch. I have never had any issues with Bosch products and this drill is no exemption. I have been using this for quite some time now and it is as good as the day I bought it. There’s plenty of space in the case for all my regularly used bits and bobs to keep everything tidy. The light is pretty good for illuminating those dark spaces and I love the simplicity of the functions.
Came in a sturdy case with built-in accessory storage. Drills everything I have thrown at it so far including outside wall which are notoriously hard material here in Spain. Battery life good so far. As mentioned elsewhere, the hammer effect is a bit weak, but plenty for the DIY home user. Good capacity Chuck and an easy locking ratchet effect to get a good tight grip on the drill bits. Would definitely buy it again.
Have change above review because when I contacted Bosch customer service they were very quick to collect and repair the drill and I have used it multiple times since without any issue, so probably just unlucky at the start.
Love it. Nice and light and drills and screws perfectly and without the hassle of a cable. I have an electric Bosch Drill, which is over 30 years old and still working well. But needed a battery operated drill for various jobs I’m doing in the house, with the hassle of trailing cables. All I can say is just like it’s electric counterpart before, it hasn’t disappointed me. Bosch by name, Bosch Quality by nature
Didn’t need manual as is very intuitive. Came charged so got started immediately. 3 modes screwdriver/hammer/drill with obvious switch for this. Forward/reverse in one click. No need for key to remove drill bit as chuckless and hold/grip on drill bit doesn’t slip when drilling. Variable speed with different pressure and good power for masonry and longer 7mm+ screws into hardwood.
Does everything I need and price seemed competitive to other brands’ models. Battery life good with led indicator on charger and drill when in use.
Only had it a couple weeks but I’m hopeful Bosch quality will mean it lasts a long time.
However, as a drill, it really struggled to penetrate a wall. It was useful for drilling wood (internal doors) though and pilot holes.
Regarding use as a drill – I’ve got a corded drill too, which I still need for some tasks, although not very many.
The battery life is good and since it comes with two batteries, you’re sorted.
Quality is good for the price
Overall I’m happy with the product and would recommend.
I’m getting old! And so need lighter power tools that don’t strain my ageing muscles.
This is nice and light, certainly compared to my 10 year old Dewalt drill, I suspect most of the weight loss is due to the Li-ion battery, compared to the old Dewalt’s Nimh.
But the DeWalt rough equivalent to this is 300g heavier, it may not sound a lot but it’s 10 oz in old money so it is quite a bit.
Torque is fine for all the jobs I’ve used it for, cupboards on walls etc.,
So a good buy, it ain’t a dewalt but it’s lighter and a little bit cheaper.
Like I say, I haven’t used it yet but I love it already!
I bought this for 2 reasons. 1. My previous battery operated Bosch drill has given me many years of service, but I thought it would be wise to have another, so that I have a backup. 2 I have many Bosch tools with the same battery type and I needed more batteries. As the price in the Black Friday event, for the tool plus 2 batteries (and charger), was only a little more than a single battery, it made sense.
I am happy with the Drill for simple tasks and the batteries allow me to also use other tools for longer.
So glad I waited until the sales, not much more than a cheep cordless drill… The Bosch PSB 1800 LI-2 Cordless Combi Drill looks and feels like the quality that Bosch is renowned for. Nothing I see I feel could be done better (which is rare for me) even down to the carry case having a proper hinge rather than the often used thin bendy plastic that’s just waiting to snap. Nice three year warranty. Stuff like this matters. Five stars.
Absolute bargain! I bought this after monitoring the rapidly fluctuating prices for a couple of weeks, and managed to grab it while the prices were down. The drill itself is smaller than expected, but it certainly out-performs the dated 12v cordless drill that it replaced. It’s compact, lightweight, comes with TWO batteries, and a handy built-in worklight which is cleverly located in the base. It seems to pack plenty of punch when it comes to torque, and the battery life is impressive. Definitely one of my best purchases in the last year or two, and typical of the sort of quality and workmanship you expect from Bosch.
I have used one of these drills for a long time. When my son in law needed a new drill I had no hesitation in buying it as a birthday gift for him. It is well balanced and has a powerful motor and will drill through almost anything. I particularly like the light feature which is a great help when drilling in tight dark places. The battery life indicator is a real help as well.
Batteries charge up very quickly (av. 1 -1 hrs)
I would recommend to anyone.
Having endured cable drills in the naive belief that battery drill were rubbish I finally weakened and bought this fabulous drill. The drill is powerful for all the domestic jobs I’ve given it and the battery life is good…having a second battery is really useful although I’ve never managed to flatten a battery yet. I thought the light was a pointless gimick but it has proved to be very useful in certain darker areas.
I an a fan of horror films of the 70’s and feel if they ever film a remake of Driller Killer this would be the weapon of choice….it would be interesting to see how many victims could be slain per battery charge!!!
I bought this for my Dad to replace a couple of cheaper makes and models whose batteries had died and we couldn’t find replacements. I guess it pays to buy a well known make.
The first thing I noticed is how powerful it is. Using it to screw in decking screws was smooth as butter. I had to gently squeeze the trigger to start as it was so fast.
I’ve used it with large drill bits to drill through 4 inch posts while building a fence and it had no trouble cutting through without having to stop. I didn’t need to swap batteries as it seemed to have a long lasting charge.
I recommend getting the official Bosch drill bits and screw driver set as they are good quality. I bought both together in a lightning deal.
I would recommend this tool.
My son pointed out a few good things about this one, 1- the reliable make 2- 2 x18 volt lithium ion batteries with 1 hour recharge dock
3 – 20 x smart torgue settings
4- A very handy light that shines upwards rather than directly at the job preventing reflections back at you (who would have thought lol )
Ive only give it 3 stars for lightweight because ive only done small jobs with it so far.
Would recommend this drill to anybody.
It arrived very promptly with brief but understandable instructions (apart from how to find the serial Number). It is light weight and easy to use. However, it is not suitable for heavy work such as concrete – Buy or hire a SSS drill.
The only problem so far: I have no idea where the serial number is recorded for the warranty registration, and of course Bosch make you pay them for the 0330 telephone call. Hardly an obstacle to purchase.
I would recommend buying some good brand of tools to swap heads as I used pound shop ones and they were a little floppy and doesn’t fit the screws too well because it damages the screws grip as well as the head tools and you could have trouble winding the screw out.
All in all, a good performance drill driver!
Firstly, it’s smaller than previous drills I’ve owned, lightweight to use and has a good feel to it.
The drill is not a mains powered brute, more refined – it can get into bricks but not with such ease as a full speed (cheaper) mains drills. It’s intended for lighter uses but so far it’s very robust.
I like the way the chuck locks automatically for changing drill bits, I like the light, I like the way it speeds up when starting, without jerking into life, and the way the battery is configured so you can charge it without taking the battery off the drill.
All in all, a nice hand drill and screwdriver. Not designed as a builders workhorse,?for that you’ll need more than 79!!
As an amateur DIYer I wanted a low-cost reliable drill. After dreaming after a Milwaukee or Makita one that are around three times the cost, I decided to settle on Bosch. Stupidly I didn’t buy it on Black Friday and the price jumped up to around 80, decided to wait and on Boxing Day the price went back down to around 65 which is the lowest I’ve ever seen it so decided to buy it.
And so far so good, the batteries really hold their charge and I haven’t had to use the second battery yet but knowing it’s there is reassuring. The hammer setting isn’t as powerful as my corded drill but it will still get through brick with a little extra force. To be honest, I probably need the Bosch hammer drill but that will have to wait until the next Black Friday deal.
The product is supplied in a sturdy plastic box with dedicated spaces for: the drill with battery; the spare battery; and the charger. A double-ended screwdriver bit is also included, which is very handy and takes up almost no room. The box and is made of solid plastic and feels robust, and I have no doubt it will be durable. I especially like the sturdy clips which securely close the box with a satisfying click, as well as the locking hole to keep my tools out of the wrong hands.
The drill is the main event, and it more than delivers on expectations. The drill is perfectly weighted in the hand, and its soft-touch plastic handle is a pleasure to hold. The controls to set the drill mode, torque and direction are easy to use and solidly constructed. Fitting drill bits can be fiddly and I’ve had a couple come loose in operation, but have learnt to ensure the chuck is totally closed before drilling, and that it clicks when I try to ‘over-tighten’ it. The work light, which I thought would be a gimmick, is actually invaluable for accurate drilling. It’s especially useful when you are starting a hole and need to be confident the tip of the drill bit is in the centre of your mark.
My drill is only a few weeks old, hopefully the batteries will prove long-lasting, but they are certainly weighty and the included charger is very welcome. Inserting a battery into the charger is not easy at first, but once you get used to it (and accept you’re not going to break it by applying a lot of force) it’s perfectly doable.
Suffice to say, I am very happy with my choice and would recommend this Bosch drill to anyone.
The drill is 23 centimeters tall and weighs 1.3 kilogram which isn’t too bad but can become tedious after a while.
The device is pretty powerful for light home use, I haven’t had an opportunity to use it for anything more demanding than what you expect around the flat. For me, the variable output speed and torque are more useful than power because it gives me great flexibility to get the job done.
Two batteries might be an overkill for me as I cannot discharge a quarter of one let alone two of them, but for that special occasion where I would need second battery handy, I have it. Do mind that if you do not use the batteries you should still discharge them and recharge because they may get worse after a long period of non-usage.
I love the 3-year warranty they provide with the drill as it could come in handy, who knows.
Overall, I would most definitely recommend this drill.
The only downside I have found the Hammer drill, as the bits always seem to fall out as soon as you start to drill, I’m assuming this is down to the vibration.
Apart from that it’s been a good purchase
I have had for two months and am very happy with it’s keyless chuck, slow battery discharge rate and having the extra battery, which I have only used to cycle both thus maintaining a partial discharge/ re-charge cycle on both.
The advertised ability to fully re-charge batteries after partial discharge without compromising future ability to fully charge to original level is a feature which will save part time users like myself, suffering the nightmare of battery memory systems that will only partially re-charge to a previously set level.
April 2019: 5 months down the line:
I have just been manufacturing multiple, strong, framed, featheredge fencing panels using screws up to 80mm in length, drill performed brilliantly, with minimal discharge in use.
I bought this to tackle a few diy projects in my home. Initiallly I thought i had purchased the wrong one as it’s quite small but that did not effect its performance. I now actually prefer the smaller size as it will not cause injury to my wrists due to its size and weight and I can tackle the jobs with ease. This is just a drill and you will have to buy the bits separately. The 2 batteries is a must so I can work continuously without having to wait for battery to charge when it’s died. I bought in the sale so very good value for money.
Bosch PSB 1800 LI-2 is amazing product for:
1. Screwdriving – max. screw dia. is 8mm;
2. Drilling – max. metal drilling dia. is 10mm;
3. Hammer drilling in masonry, metal and wood – max. dia. for wood is 30mm and for masonry is 10mm.
Perfect purchase for screw driving and wood/interior plasterboard work. Screwdriver has a lot of power with 2-Geardrive speed options, forward/reverse indicator, charge level indicator. Batteries charging time is 60 minutes. Compatible with Bosch system “Power for All” which means you can use the same batteries with other Bosch products.
Box contains: Drill, 2 batteries, charging station, 1 bit and instructions.
Just used it for the first time, to drill into my Christmas tree foot. Worked like a charm. I love all the settings (speed and torque): feels at the same time very easy to use and adaptable to anything you throw at it.
No need for any additional tools. I feared that it would not be as effective as those percussion drills with a front handle like my dad used to have, but at least for this tight wood it worked perfectly fine and I was able to drill quite straight. And the batteries seem to pack a punch.
Ok, I must confess I’ve not actually drilled a hole or screwed a screw with this yet. But it looks amazing. My ancient Black & Decker from the 70s is still going strong but as a corded drill using it is a bit of a faff. I have also had a couple of cheep cordless drills but this is like going from a clapped out Ford Escort to a brand new Rolls Royce. It looks very robust, the fact that it has 2 Li-ion batteries, which only take 1 hr to charge, battery charge indicator, 20 torque settings, a light …….I could go on!
I have been looking to buy a new drill for a couple of months and had more or less settled on a cheaper model when this came up in the Black Friday deals. It was almost half price, so not to buy it seemed quite churlish. I did a quick bit of research and read a few reviews, checked the price on some other sites and thought it’s an offer I couldn’t refuse.
Being a Bosch I can’t imagine that it won’t live up to it’s reputation, I’m just looking for an excuse to try it now.
The hammer drill seems just as good as my corded power drill but i can use it anywhere.
The large variety of power settings mean i can use a setting to suit every need from screwing in a delicate screw to drilling a hole in a brick wall with ease.
It’s extremely light compared to my old cordless screwdriver and especially compared to my corded power drill while also relatively small which means it is easier to squeeze into tight spaces.
Comes with two batteries so i can always have power as one battery can be charging while i use the other one.
Has a power indicator so you know when the battery is getting low.
I used to carry around a power drill and a cordless screwdriver and now i just carry this.
To hold, it just fits in your hand perfectly. Can’t imagine a better-weighted drill than this.
Any serious DIY’er needs a good quality portable drill, and this one fits the bill perfectly!
I returned due to wrong model order, and now i bought other drill with more Power.
I also have the first Li-ion drill and this is lighter! But the batteries also fit which is good news. The main reason I bought is that why plug in a great big SDS drill when I am just drilling small holes in normal brick and block? Yep that is why I bought this, it is also good to have two then one drills and one screws, even more so when I am drilling wood and screwing quite a lot.
I have had this for a couple of months now and all is good, it drills really well in normal stuff, for normal home use it is a great little tool, light but works hard and not a fault in sight.
It was and is a great buy with two batteries, but look carefully as I also found it on sale with 2.0 Ah batteries for the same price! So check out the big stores first, but I was/am still happy with my buy.
6 month update: Love it. It has way more power/torque than my old one. It means I have to get my power drill out less often. I use this for 6 x 100 wood screws and they go in with ease. Battery still lasts just as long per charge and the 2nd battery means you never have to be without it. So please with the purchase I could be accused of being a little smug!
Slightly heavy for me who cannot lift a bag of sugar without my wrists hurting but nothing a wrist splint can’t help with and the weight actually works in my favour. Not at all heavy for a normal person. It is not too big nor too small to be ineffective.
I love how flexible this is and the bonus of being able to buy it with two batteries…because we all know what happens when we are enjoying ourselves so much with our power tools and the battery runs out. Well not anymore.
As a complement to my mains wired Bosch power drill (a beast from the late ’80s which I’ll continue to use for the really demanding stuff), this combi-driver is a very useful tool. I suspect it won’t take the punishment of the mains drill but it wins hands down for the portability without conceding too much on power.
I use this drill virtually every day in one way or another, mainly as a screwdriver rather than to drill holes in things. It has a high level of torque for any screwdriving task, and the hammer and normal drill settings make it easy to drill through various materials too. You have various power settings and torque settings for virtually any type of job, from delicate small screwdriving tasks, to heavy-duty drilling.
It comes with two batteries, a charger and a handy carry-case. There is a battery-level indicator and a guide light for dark spaces too. I would highly recommend this drill and would purchase the exact same model again if anything happened to my current one.
(Update) Plus you won’t be drilling any brickwork with this as it doesn’t have enough power to it as an electric drill is better for it but you can drill through wood & any extra holes in flat packed furniture etc that occasionally have holes missing but over all a great driil/screwdriver & two batteries & charger set.
I bought it to replace my 10 year old and excellent mains powered Bosch hammer drill and whilst it worked really well, it was quite heavy and I’m getting older and weaker !
I’ve used it to drill wood, plasterboard and brick so far and it works beautifully, without any problems.
The PSB1800 Cordless is a superb device and far exceeds my expectations.
I’ve given my old mains powered Bosch drill to my son !
In all honesty I didn’t originally buy this model for the hammer drill function, I already had a powerful corded drill on loan for masonry drilling so bought this mainly for the regular drilling and screw driving functions, but the price difference between the regular and combi version of this model was so small it seemed silly not to just go for the combi anyway. Nonetheless, this little piece of kit has really pleasantly surprised me, I’ve used it for drilling into brick several times already and it’s handled it no problem. Now granted I’m only talking between 3mm and 6mm holes in regular house brick, but nonetheless I’ve been impressed by how much this compact little unit will handle without complaint. It has also handled all the typical screwdriving and wood drilling applications you’d expect without complaint. Considering it technically comes with a little less torque than some of it’s competitors (but comes in a little lighter as a result, so swings and roundabouts), as a casual DIY-er I’ve yet to come up against a situation where I felt it was lacking for it’s purpose
I’ve only had this drill for a short while so can’t comment as to how well the batteries last and how well it continues to perform over a long period of time, but on early impressions I’m very impressed and extremely happy with my purchase. Just be sure to use decent drill bits with it (true of any drill), I at first had a feeling it was slightly misaligned as it was wobbling in my hand in use, but it turned out that I was just using a cheap drill bit which had bent!
The bonus was having a plastic case, not only will it house the drill with it’s extra battery pack and charger, but there is room to place some basic bit tools, step cutters, and other odd-ends. Also, you get a two ended screwdriver ISO Pozi- & -Flat. I highly recommend this purchase, you can’t go wrong here, it’s well worth the price with a known German Manufacturer.
Bosch seems to be the brand to go to whenever I am getting anything DIY related. The batteries can be used within other Bosch products which means that I can save a lot of money by sticking to the Bosch brand. I have actually bought a couple of Bosch DIY tools recently and they are all performing well so I would say other people should probably do the same. You should probably only bother with going for the blue models if you are a professional that is using these tools on a very regular basis. In terms of this drill itself, it has a battery indicator, light which shines up to where you want to drill, it has a good range of torque and speeds but also has a couple of different modes.
I got this for our new (rented) house and have used it to build cupboards, shelves and everything in between – both drilling and driving. As a driver, it can’t be beaten I don’t think. I used a manual screwdriver just once – this thing gives you so much control, and works at such slow speeds (but with a huge amount of torque) that it’s rendered manual screwdrivers almost redundant, apart from needing them in tight spaces.
To hold, it just fits in your hand perfectly. Can’t imagine a better-weighted drill than this.
My only issue? The drill bits from Bosch are not solid and bend, but nothing to do with the drill itself.
I just use it for simple DIY tasks like screwing and drilling, With my walls in my old house the plaster is very brittle and I was always worried when I drilled into the wall, let alone hanging something on it because of the terrible condition of the walls. Well I cranked it into the hammer drill mode and it went smoothly into the wall. It securely help me fit a wall plug in and I am so happy that I can put things on the wall.
When using the drill it have a light on the base to shine up towards what ever you are aiming at.
I cant say whether it would be good for the work place because that not what I intend to use this drill for but as a DIY tool, it is the best bit of kit I have.
I fully recommend this produc
I love all the features on this product however I have found a few negatives:
The maximum torque in the screw function is often too low and I often have to switch to slow drill in order to fully screw some long screws (when using big screws, small screws should be fine).
The hammer drill function is useful to have if you don’t have anything else, but the hammer is not very powerful at all and a proper hammer drill goes a lot faster (don’t throw your old one away).
The 2 battery pack only came with one screwdriver bit (flat and Philips), I would recommend getting a pack that contains extra screwdriver bits and 2 batteries, or just buy a set like this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00GGKMNTO
Overall I am really happy with the quality of this product.
I got this as an xmas present to replace my older PSB1800 that was starting to smell like the armature was burning out – but then it has lasted years so I asked for a new one.
I really like that it now has a hammer drill setting as it means I don’t have to reach for the mains powered drill quite so often.
The charge time is very good and I can generally get recharged on one battery before I’ve had a chance to flatten the other. If only Bosch hadn’t changed the battery pack shape though…..I could have had 4 batteries to work with instead of 2 and less battery waste to send to the recycling point.
Balance in the hand is as good as the earlier version. Better range of torque control than before.
The wife now has me running it in by fitting a new kitchen. Hmmm – thanks for that Santa.
Overall really impressed and is all i need and more, looking forward to trying the screw functio
Comes with 2 batteries which is handy. Batteries lasted well and even charge in under a hour which is a bonus over other drills I have had which take several hours.
Drill is smaller than I expected and quite compact and easy to use.
Has keyless chuck so really easy to change drill/driver bits, simply twist and they lock in.
Comes in a good sturdy storage case and has multiple settings for drilling and screwing as well as a hammer drill option. All can be changed simply by rotating the end of the drill. Also allows you to alter the torque and power.
Has a handy power indicator to show the battery remaining and a light which illuminates when you are drilling which is handy if using in dark spaces such as a cupboard.
For my needs which is light diy and around the house this is ideal.
PSB 1800 LI-2 with two batteries: Only had it a couple of days, but first impression is this is an excellent piece of kit and a bargain at 74.99 and still worth it at the full list price.
The batteries for my old driver were in need of replacement and at thirty quid a piece it didn’t seem to make much sense when I could get this for another 15 on top. This tool having used it a few times is far superior to my old driver. The hammer drill works well, the twin speed enables this to be used as a proper drill and the control with it screwdriver setting is excellent and with much more torque than my old driver. And it comes with a well made carry case.
For all but the really big drilling jobs this will have it covered and without a lead. Brilliant, thoroughly recommended.
The batteries hold a good charge, i charged the drill to 100% left it for say 2 months and went on to do a heavy task with it and did not even need the second battery plus they charge fast it was %100 in about 45min.
The unit is sturdy and well balanced so feels good in the hand even my huge clubs, there is a light that helps when you are blocking the room lights or the sun so its a nice touch.
The hammer function is acceptable for a drill like this (for heavy drilling you want something more beefy), it drilled into brick without too much effort (this drill is more for screws, wood, breezeblock).
The drill has a good amount of torque and so you dont burn the motor out trying to get that big screw in it has a stall out feature so if the load gets too much it will just stop.
If you are the family handy man or just a home diyer this is a good drill to get that is not expensive if you are a pro i would steer to dewalt or makita but for the price this is a great drill and i have used it on many jobs and am very happy with it.
The new Li-Ion battery technology is wonderful, gives you a glimpse of the charge level remaining every time you operate the driver via three little LED lights.
The battery charge held for quite a while too. I undertook some electrical work outside screwing 55mm screws into fenceposts all day whilst fitting some electrics. I previously tried to do these screws by hand, but couldn’t due to blisters and cramps, hence i ordered the Bosch PSB 1800 Li-2. Hot knife through butter.
It managed the job perfectly with oodles of (surplus) torque available – I was quite surprised how much power this tool actually has.
I then moved inside and did some DIY indoors on the original battery charge from outside. I finished all my jobs with not having had to switch to the second battery. Would highly recommend getting the 2nd battery for this, always handy to switch to when the other one needs a quick charge (full charge achieved in 60 mins). Nice n’ fast.
The small profile of the tool allows it to be used in confined spaces and the built in light provides lighting in dark spaces.
All in all, this is a versatile tool, with lots of power. Love it.
Cracking value as it includes a carry case and two Li-ion batteries, which charge extremely quickly on the supplied charging base. The internal layout of the case could be improved to allow for better storage of drill and screwdriver bits, but that’s a minor niggle.
The 18v power supply means that this can tackle most household jobs and the trigger is sensitive enough to allow reasonably precise control of speeds. The light mounted on the battery grip and pointing at the drill head is a nice touch, especially if you’re working in a cupboard or under a shelf.
You can control the screw torque limit, select one of two overall speeds or choose between screwdriver, drill or hammer-drill modes to cover most options.
The price does seem to rise & fall regularly, I paid 80 quid, and thought I got a bargain, so if you can find a cheaper deal, grab it with both hands.
