Very neat and compact Capo. The adjustable tension makes it ideal for semi acoustics.
The best I have found. The adjustable pressure minimises the intonation problems and the low profile allows the fretting hand to work around the capo.
This is about as unobtrusive, lightweight and effective a capo as can be found anywhere – I came to this having for some time previously coveted the marvellously tactile but almost twice as expensive G7th Performance capo. A pro guitarist drew my attention to the NS Capo pro and I quickly came around to it’s minimalist efficiency. I still like picking up and fiddling about with other people’s G7th’s but this D’addario/Planet Waves capo is perfect for the job and half the weight.
Be aware that there’s a cheaper ‘lite’ version of this capo. The design is pretty much exactly the same except that it’s made from ABS plastic instead of aviation grade aluminium. Although the plastic ‘lite’ version is not recommended for 12 string guitars, I believe it’s as effective but at a pocket money price point. Otherwise, if you’re not especially budget constrained I’d recommend the pro version. It’s pleasingly good and you won’t regret it!
Ive has this over a year now. Its very handy and easy on the guitar fretboard as you adjust the pressure which protects your guita
Very nice design but not enough adjustment for me on my Hernandez classical guitar and is slack on tightest setting which unfortunately means that I can’t use it on this guitar.
With the right fit I don’t believe there is a better capo though. Planet Waves really do make quality items.
Simple design. Works but needed to tighten the screw a little more than I expected to prevent dead strings.
Very simple to use and works on my acoustic all up the fret board with no ringing. Small, so it does not hinder chord grips. It may be described as Lite but it does the job fully and well and especially if you want to put it on and off regularly then this is the one to buy.
Best Capo ive ever used, simple!
Tried several Capos including the performance G7th2 and another good quality lever type! The G7th2 was to loose for my Alvarez Masterworks Folk, if my hand would knock it, it would move drastically, the other was sharpening the notes and causing tuning probles ala death grip!
This one is what i have been looking for, brilliant.
All I can say about this is. WOW. Excellent product. Accurate positive reviews. Would highly recommend for the price. Unbeatable.
Best capo on the market.being able to adjust it whilst it’s on is great. It’s very sturdy too
brilliant for the money. every bit as good as the g7 capo that I also have
Played guitar for several decades with a variety of cheap capos. This is another world. Fast, one handed micro adjustment and able to hold the strings with minimal pressure so they do not go out of tune nor, so I have heard, wear away frets so quickly which can be a problem with strong non-adjustable capos. A superb bit of kit. If I lost it I’d definitely replace it.
It works on both classic and acoustic, so in other words, perfect. You have to twist the little knob to tighten it, which is a little bit tedious and if you want to move the capo while playing, don’t get this one. It is perfect for me though, and very portable.
A reasonable design although lacks grip on thinner fret boards.
Great capo! It was recommended by my guitar tutor, as he uses the same model. It holds the strings of my acoustic guitar firmly and doesn’t feel too bulky on the fretboard like some of the larger hinged ones. Easy to fit in place. I would recommend it.
Good build quality seems like it will last for some time, but that also depends on how often you use it.
If you are first time capo user go easy on the tightening screw, I once made a mark on fretboard from E string. Tighten carefully!
Superb capo. Very simple and effective. Tapered end towards the top e string makes for hardly any interference with fingering.
Headstock tuner also superb. This is my second one for another guitar.
Very light indeed. Surprising in fact.
Works like a charm, and will be purchasing a couple more to keep in my other cases.
This is without doubt, the best capo I’ve found. I’ve been playing guitar for 44yrs using capos and this one is the best I’ve used.
Love these capos. Second one I’ve bought. You can get the grip exactly right. Not good for a fast change though (which doesn’t bother me). Just be aware that the screw can work loose when not on the guitar (if you’re travelling etc) so always put it in a box or something like that.
Lovely product. Fits a Martin J15 Acoustic and a thicker necked Morris acoustic perfectly.
You get to control the tension and can’t damage the neck (like you can with Shubb) because you don’t have enough leverage to do harm.
Really light and strong. Adjusts very quickly for putting on and taking off.
It’s unobtrusive as you can see from my pics and doesn’t interfere with your hand movement.
Also great value.
Nice slim, compact and unobtrusive capo, doesn’t “get in the way” as my previous lever type did, however I only play for a hobby so not having a quick release capability isn’t a problem. Over all a good quality build and finish for the price.
I purchased the NS Capo Lite at the beginning of 2012 – it’s now January 2016 and the capo is still working perfectly.
I have several guitars and a couple of ukuleles and this capo fits them all – from the skinny neck of my soprano uke to the fat wide neck of my full size classical guitar.
I much prefer the tightening method of the NS Lite compared to sprung capos some of which have such strong springs they damage fretboard by pressing the larger wound strings into the wood. The screw tensioner of this capo allows you to set just enough force to make the strings ring true without clamping down on them like a rottweiler.
It’s also easy to move the capo from one fret to another using one hand – simply loosen the screw a little, reposition and tighten. Highly recommended.
The reason why i bought this was to avoid marking the guitar when applying it. safe to say that it has not marked the guitar and has worked very well! I own an electro-acoustic so i’m unsure how it would work on a thicker full sized acoustic.
Cheap, lightweight and effective capo. Have now bought several as spares.
small, lightweight, and tight clamping the frets
it is the best capo
Really nice lightweight capo which works well on my 12 string unlike others I have had.
Simple, easy to use. Works very well on my low-spec acoustic guitar. Would recommend it.
This is the best capo I have ever bought, and like many of you, I have bought loads. Like me you probably have some of those really expensive ones that failed to live up to the blurb about them, otherwise you wouldn’t be looking for a new one. I have been playing the guitar for over 40 years and have gone through dozens of capos, most of which fail after a while. Because I play a 12 string, I find it difficult to find a decent and durable capo that works. This Planet Waves Capo does work without a hitch. It keeps the strings tight on the fretboard without distorting the sound. I would definety buy one of these again, but I don’t think I will be doing so any time soon 😉
Excellent quality. Lightweight, quick to use. Will definitely not go back to a standard Capo.
Light, Smart and Easy to use. Definitely not flimsy (I was surprised to learn it was not metal,) I’ve owned one for several months and getting a 2nd Capo to pop in my other gig bag started to look around and couldn’t be bothered to evaluate another product as I really have no complaints with this one so I bought another.
Good for 6 string, but found it struggled with my 12 string guita
Neat, simple to fit, and not as bulky as most capos. If I ever need another capo, this will be it! Just the ticket.
Very very good. Dropped a star because they pop off if you try using them as a five string capo.
To be fair, they don’t advertise as they can be used as such, but if they could, they would be perfect.
The item works fine with a classical guitar. I have no complaint so far. However the packaging was unnecessarily oversized for its content.
I really like this capo !
I’ve used loads of different capos over the past 49 years of guitar playing and this is the slickest…
If it lasts years I would regard this as the most practical (and reasonably priced) unit available…
Excellent, not so intrusive on the fretboard, well made with hard wearing rubber protection strips for the strings and fretboard, well worth the money.
Very good capo. Sturdy but flexible, very well made. Does the job nicely. Worth every penny.
Excellent quality and very affordable price. I use this on my steel-stringed acoustic guitar and find that it gives a great sound wherever it’s placed upon the fretboard. Many capos that I have used in the past have inevitably broken but I have never had that fear with this capo.
I only give this 4 stars because the low E string will often sound out of tune but this can easily be resolved by re-placing the capo on the fret and positioning it properly or simply tuning the E string accordingly.
Don’t be put off by the 4/5 rating, I’d still highly recommend this to any guitar player!
Great capo – using as alternate to shubb- but i have started liking it more. Great design.
Very well made and simple to use. Maintains even pressure across the fretboard without tuning problems. Highly recommended.
Quick and easy to apply. Very unobtrusive. Twist knob ensures you do not inadvertently damage the neck of expensive acoustic guitars.
Nice light capo which can be parked behind the nut, even on a Martin D28 which has a volute at the head joint.
Easy to use precise control product. Feels light and good quality with one handed operation, unlike some which need two hands and look as though you’ve put up scaffolding.
Great value capo! Vernier type screw ensures that unlike ordinary mouse trap spring powered capos your guitar stays in tune when you install it.
Cheap enough to lose!
Love it!!
Smaller and lighter than expected but it gives you a clean sound withount the buzzing, It’s so small and light that you won’t notice that it’s there. Two thumbs up from me 😉
Very light and secure and won`t damage any part of the guitar neck. Fine design and the best I have come across for the classical guitar. Highly recommended.
Excellent capo. Easy to put and take off, has enough strength to hold strings firmly without buzzing and is very lightweight and compact.
I have these capos for classical (flat fretboard) and steel-string (cambered fretboard) guitars as well as for mandolin. Being very light they do not spoil the balance of the instruments. Being black and neatly proportioned, they are inconspicuous against and ebony fretboard. The micrometric adjustment makes for minimum effect on tuning, and they seem very sturdy. The best capos I have had in my half century of guitar playing.

his is an excellent device for a classical guitar
It is very strong lightweight and is very in obtrusive ,very quickly attached
and keeps the elegance of the guitar and doesn’t look ungainly
like some capos can .
Very pleased with i
Nice design, easy to use (even with one hand) and suits my maple neck. Fits all the frets that you would put a capo on as it is nice and thin. Amazing that it’s so cheap!
Excellent capo. I had been using a good quality capo designed for a steel string guitar, but found the tuning wasn’t great, and I was getting a dual note from each string, as well as some fret buzz. This Planet Waves Capo is well made, and has solved all of those problems – and wasn’t even that expensive! Great product.
Excellent Cappo that is easy to use for my daughter aged 12. Really strong robust and fantastic for the price
absolutely brilliant capo. its a great mechanic, allows for great precision and the quality is fantastic. My brother has a G7th capo and even he appreciated how good it was and said he is going to get one when it comes time to replace it.
This Capo is the best i have ever used. It is perfectly engineered (lightweight and v strong), grips my 12 and six-strings perfectly with no issues at all and most importantly it does not get in the way of my playing unlike most capos i have used!
Take my advice and don’t bother with the cheapo elasticated straps, don’t bother with the often expensive level mechanisms. This does the Job perfectly
I’ve got 3 capos but I only use this now! Easy to put on and doesn’t get in the way with fingering chords
I’ve been playing for many years and have used a number of capos. This one works just as well as the more precisely adjustable type, but it is much easier to use.
I highly recommend this for every single guitar players!
it’s so easy to put it on and off, holds the strings very tightly.
50 stars.
Adjustable and even pressure across fretboard means strings don’t need to be re-tuned. Very nifty device. Well designed and unobtrusive.
I choose it because it looked nice and I take it everywhere with me! It works so well and makes my guitar playing coole
This is a really nice capo. Works fantastically well with seemingly no huge strength or power.
Nicely made but not sure how robust it will be over time
Easy to use, effective small and convenient. Perfect for my 6 string electric. Wish i had bought it a while ago.
This Capo suits every need in ensuring you get a good grip on all strings, whether six or twelve. Not only that provided you put ait s close to the fret the better it holdsl the key.
Easy and simple to use I rate this five stars and because of the quality of workmanship.
This is the 4th capo I’ve tried and at last I’ve found one that works in any scenario. I’ve found that the strap on types are either too tight or too loose depending on which fret you are on, and you need two hands to do them up. The trigger types seem to sometimes not quite clamp some of the strings tightly enough, and gets in the way of your hand when on the 1st fret after it.
This capo can be fitted with one hand and tightened to exactly the right pressure for any fret. It’s also pretty good in terms of interfering with you hand.
The quality is great – the micrometer type adjusting knob gives you one of those satisfying feelings of quality when you use it.
Great product and great price.
Overall pleased with good quality
It says ‘flat radius’ in the description above but it is not totally flat like the classical guitar fretboard.
As the rubber padding squashes in a bit I would say it is more multi purpose to also fit slightly bevelled guitar fretboards,
I have found it long enough for full size classical guitars to cover all the strings .
It is easy to use.
Easy to use. This little capo works with electric or acoustic guitars in any tuning. Worth every penny. I’m impressed.
I bought this after struggling with my old capo which was the standard spring/lever type. I had this view that capo’s are just not easy to use. When this one arrived I was just delighted. It is light, robust, easy to use with one hand. Convenient to carry or store. Everything about it surpassed my expectations. I use on an acoustic guitat but everything I say here is the same for electric guitar use.
Thoroughly recommended
I am delighted with this little capo. I find it very easy to put on, adjust and take off. The deceptively simple mechanism allows very fine adjustment and the under-neck arm has just the right profile for classical guitar necks. I am happy to recommend it.
Very easy to use, consistent pressure across the strings, and a really good design. I really like that it is so simple, easy to use and effective
With this capo, the strings not being gripped properly is no longer an issue due to the fact that I can reduce the tension with the screw in this capo. I had this issue with other older capo but I am glad I bought this one. The silver color also suits my guitar. 🙂
I’ve been playing guitar for over 50 years and have tried many different kinds of capo; my favourite up to now has been Shubb, which are great capos, but this is giving them a run for their money! I love it! Its simple, quick and easy to use and there are no problems with the guitar’s tuning as the adjustment is very fine. This is a great little capo and fantastic value for the price. Another great product from Planet Waves!
Very good and cheap capo. Supperb quality for the price! Easy to remove and put on the fret. No muted strings like other capos…good strong hold anywhere in the neck!
easy to add, does the job and importantly does not get in the way – recommended to anyone – especially beginner like me
Easy to put on, small, light, good protection due to rubber contact points.
Oh yes nearly forgot, it works a treat.
I love this capo. Its sturdy, good quality and can be used for any level of playing. I would never get another make of capo
Get one! Cheap, high quality and no change in tone, as it allows you to adjust the pressure to your liking. Perfect!
Just bought this type of capo,I previously had the spring loaded clamp type. However this little lightweight beauty is fantasic, you can apply just the right pressure and not excessive pressure as with the clamp type.Stays in tune during play and after it is removed. I do not use it to change key mid song, but I am sure it can be done. I absolutely love it.
The fact that yoiu have to unscrew it to remove and screw it back to reposition does not make for quick changes. Precise tension control is a good feature.
Bought this as it is specifically made for classical guitars. It is a bit more expensive than some others which might have worked (not sure as it is my first capo) but apart from holding well, it looks easy on the eye too as it is a nice and tidy design with no parts sticking out.
Arrived very quickly and in excellent condition (packed into a huge box with padding!).
Love the way it works, it doesn’t feel like I’m going to break the neck of my guitar everytime I capo, like the last one (admittedly cheap) I had. Very friendly feel to it and solidly presses down with no buzzing.
Planet Waves NS Classical Guitar Capo – Black is very small and very light. I like it because of that. Only problem is if I need mount this capo very fast. otherwise it is perfec
JUST A GREAT PRODUCT TOTAL QUALITY NEVER BOUGHT ANY THING FEOM PLANET WAVES BEFORE BUT FROM THIS FIRST IMPRESSION I WILL AGAIN
This is a great device and so easy to use. What I especially liked was that you can easily moderate the pressure so avoiding heavy clamping which tends to knock the strings out of pitch. I believe there is a heavier version – I think it is called the Pro. What that is like I don’t know, but for my electric and acoustic guitars on stage the capo is quick and effective. I love it and have ditched my others in favour of it.
Really well made and the adjustable tension is extremely useful as the guitar stays in tune. A great buy can’t recommend it more.

I am so impressed with this little capo. It’s small, light weight, easy to use (attaches in seconds) and works incredibly well. I have to admit that I was a little sceptical about it when I bought it, but it is brilliant. In fact, I’m so impressed that I just bought a second one so that I have a back-up.
Bought for someone as a Christmas present on the basis it has received many good reviews. Can’t say I disagree with previous reviews – it appears of good build quality and recipient of gift is made up with the item. Appears a great product, prompt delivery – no issues
Perfect for what i needed, i can use it on all of my instruments, guitar, uke, bazuki, mandolin and banjo. This saves having multiple capo’s.
For a struggling, gigging guitar player like me, this is heaven-sent. With constant changing of chord patterns to suit our singers, this little gem of a capo is perfect for my Les Paul and my Telecaster. You hardly noticed it when in place and because it’s black, it almost disappeared in the fretboard. You want a high-quality, unobtrusive, perfectly working capo? Look no further. Get one, now!
bought this item on the strength of a previous review and I am glad to report it does what it does well , dont buy cheap or you will have to buy again. a pleasing purchase
I’ve been playing guitar for far too long but again, I’ve come across a very simple but usable product. The price was spot on and I gigged it the same day that it arrived. Happy Chappy!
Does what it is supposed to do very well. Light weight and not intrusive when playing. I expect there are better ones but this is pretty good.
The thing about capos is, you don’t want to have to think about them too much. They should just work. Luckily, this is a capo that works. Provides an even pressure on all stings, and is a doddle to take on and off.
I wanted a capo that did not change the tuning on my guitar, and also did not chafe my fingers (unlike the one I was using).
This one answered both needs very well. It is quick to put on: pressure can be adjusted to suit positioning, and contact area with strings is small, so they stay in tune with no buzz. Smooth, low profile, so no chafe.
This product allows you to get the perfect tension and doesn’t impede your tone at all. Downside is because of its precision tightening (you screw it to tighten and can thus adjust the tightness) you’re not going be able to play ‘To The Light’ by Newton Faulkner.
But now you know this you can’t knock it! Great value for money, my personal fave.
This is the best Capo I’ve tried, better than Kyser or 24 G7th. Its light and its easy to tighen it just enough to cleanly raise the pitch, without sending the guitar too far out of tune. No capo I’ve used is as easy to set just the right amount of pressure – and its cheaper than other quality capo’s. Liked the heft of the G7th, love Kysers’ cut capo, but for a standard capo your search is over!
I’ve been playing classical guitar for a while now, and I recently needed a capo. In my ignorance, I presumed selecting a capo would be easy. However I soon realised there where several considerations:
1) Classical guitars need specific capo’s. This rules out a lot of cheap ‘electric/ acoustic’ capo options.
2) Probably due to the niche market, capos for classicla guitar seemed quite expensive, some costing 30+
3) My guitar has quite a broad neck, so I wanted to ensure the capo selected would fit.
4) They come in a range of materials, plastic vs. metal with a variety of materials for the ‘cushion’ to fret the strings.
and finally
4) Few of the suitable capo’s on amazon had product reviews, so I was stabbing a bit in the dark.
So why did I choose this one?
Firstly, it was mid price range. Not the cheapest, but by no means the most expensive. If I’m honest, at 15 it was still double the price I would have ideally paid (being a poor student) but quality costs. I feared the longevity of the plastic ones, and it seemed like it would fit my guitar- so I took a gamble.
Did it pay off?
Yes- it really did.
The capo arrived quickly, after slipping it out of its casing I was impressed by how light it was but how sturdy it felt.
The cushion to fret the guitar is a high density sponge which seems like it will withstand wear and tear (though mine is showing indents alread- but this is to be expected). The capo is fitted to the guitar buy manually screwing it tight (easier than it sounds) and allows greater precision and is a lot gentler than those that just clamp onto the guitar neck. When I play with the capo in place it sounds perfect, no buzzing at all.
Over all, its a bit expensive but its a piece of kit that will last, sounds perfect and is gentle on the guitar.
This is a great product. Not the fastest capo to fix but probably the neatest and very adjustable in pressure to fit most curved fingerboard guitars (there is a classical version too). Sadly my plastic version broke so I invested in the “pro” metal version which is very neat and identical in appearance. However, Planet Waves sent me a free replacement for the plastic model so now I have a spare. Highly thought of by many players at the IGF Guitar summer school in Cheltenham and rightly so.
Not sure what the difference is between this one and the NS Lite but I have to say this is my favourite capo. Its small and aesthetically very nice, looks very sleek when on the guitar. Easy use with one hand and very precise with the amount of lock you need. Only problem is that its very easy to lose.
Planet Waves PW-CP-07 NS Capo Lite
I mainly use a Shubb capo, but this one is a really good alternative – it works well and is very light so can be carried unnoticed in a pocket and takes only fractionally longer to apply. Like the Shubb it can also be used as a partial Capo, leaving the bottom string out.
I bought a cheap spring operated imitation Dunlop capo and in three months it broke, literally fell apart, the metal bent and that was it. So I bit the bullet, splashed out on this little beauty and I am happy happy happy. A year later of daily use, it is small, light and lovely. The screw operation is gentle on the strings. Not sure about the one handed operation as a selling point, it can be done but doesn’t really lend itself to that. I always use two.
