Very neat and compact Capo. The adjustable tension makes it ideal for semi acoustics.

The best I have found. The adjustable pressure minimises the intonation problems and the low profile allows the fretting hand to work around the capo.

This is about as unobtrusive, lightweight and effective a capo as can be found anywhere – I came to this having for some time previously coveted the marvellously tactile but almost twice as expensive G7th Performance capo. A pro guitarist drew my attention to the NS Capo pro and I quickly came around to it’s minimalist efficiency. I still like picking up and fiddling about with other people’s G7th’s but this D’addario/Planet Waves capo is perfect for the job and half the weight.

Be aware that there’s a cheaper ‘lite’ version of this capo. The design is pretty much exactly the same except that it’s made from ABS plastic instead of aviation grade aluminium. Although the plastic ‘lite’ version is not recommended for 12 string guitars, I believe it’s as effective but at a pocket money price point. Otherwise, if you’re not especially budget constrained I’d recommend the pro version. It’s pleasingly good and you won’t regret it!

Ive has this over a year now. Its very handy and easy on the guitar fretboard as you adjust the pressure which protects your guita

Very nice design but not enough adjustment for me on my Hernandez classical guitar and is slack on tightest setting which unfortunately means that I can’t use it on this guitar.
With the right fit I don’t believe there is a better capo though. Planet Waves really do make quality items.

Simple design. Works but needed to tighten the screw a little more than I expected to prevent dead strings.

  7. UlyssesLipscomb says:

Very simple to use and works on my acoustic all up the fret board with no ringing. Small, so it does not hinder chord grips. It may be described as Lite but it does the job fully and well and especially if you want to put it on and off regularly then this is the one to buy.

Best Capo ive ever used, simple!
Tried several Capos including the performance G7th2 and another good quality lever type! The G7th2 was to loose for my Alvarez Masterworks Folk, if my hand would knock it, it would move drastically, the other was sharpening the notes and causing tuning probles ala death grip!
This one is what i have been looking for, brilliant.

Played guitar for several decades with a variety of cheap capos. This is another world. Fast, one handed micro adjustment and able to hold the strings with minimal pressure so they do not go out of tune nor, so I have heard, wear away frets so quickly which can be a problem with strong non-adjustable capos. A superb bit of kit. If I lost it I’d definitely replace it.

It works on both classic and acoustic, so in other words, perfect. You have to twist the little knob to tighten it, which is a little bit tedious and if you want to move the capo while playing, don’t get this one. It is perfect for me though, and very portable.

  14. BraydenPrieur says:

A reasonable design although lacks grip on thinner fret boards.

  15. WhitneyKoerstz says:

Great capo! It was recommended by my guitar tutor, as he uses the same model. It holds the strings of my acoustic guitar firmly and doesn’t feel too bulky on the fretboard like some of the larger hinged ones. Easy to fit in place. I would recommend it.

Good build quality seems like it will last for some time, but that also depends on how often you use it.

If you are first time capo user go easy on the tightening screw, I once made a mark on fretboard from E string. Tighten carefully!

  17. Consumerist says:

Superb capo. Very simple and effective. Tapered end towards the top e string makes for hardly any interference with fingering.

Headstock tuner also superb. This is my second one for another guitar.

This is without doubt, the best capo I’ve found. I’ve been playing guitar for 44yrs using capos and this one is the best I’ve used.

  20. Anonymous says:

Love these capos. Second one I’ve bought. You can get the grip exactly right. Not good for a fast change though (which doesn’t bother me). Just be aware that the screw can work loose when not on the guitar (if you’re travelling etc) so always put it in a box or something like that.

  21. MackenzBrigham says:

Lovely product. Fits a Martin J15 Acoustic and a thicker necked Morris acoustic perfectly.
You get to control the tension and can’t damage the neck (like you can with Shubb) because you don’t have enough leverage to do harm.
Really light and strong. Adjusts very quickly for putting on and taking off.
It’s unobtrusive as you can see from my pics and doesn’t interfere with your hand movement.
    Also great value.

Nice capo - lovely fit on a slighty curve necked acoustics.

Nice slim, compact and unobtrusive capo, doesn’t “get in the way” as my previous lever type did, however I only play for a hobby so not having a quick release capability isn’t a problem. Over all a good quality build and finish for the price.

I purchased the NS Capo Lite at the beginning of 2012 – it’s now January 2016 and the capo is still working perfectly.
I have several guitars and a couple of ukuleles and this capo fits them all – from the skinny neck of my soprano uke to the fat wide neck of my full size classical guitar.
I much prefer the tightening method of the NS Lite compared to sprung capos some of which have such strong springs they damage fretboard by pressing the larger wound strings into the wood. The screw tensioner of this capo allows you to set just enough force to make the strings ring true without clamping down on them like a rottweiler.
It’s also easy to move the capo from one fret to another using one hand – simply loosen the screw a little, reposition and tighten. Highly recommended.

The reason why i bought this was to avoid marking the guitar when applying it. safe to say that it has not marked the guitar and has worked very well! I own an electro-acoustic so i’m unsure how it would work on a thicker full sized acoustic.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is the best capo I have ever bought, and like many of you, I have bought loads. Like me you probably have some of those really expensive ones that failed to live up to the blurb about them, otherwise you wouldn’t be looking for a new one. I have been playing the guitar for over 40 years and have gone through dozens of capos, most of which fail after a while. Because I play a 12 string, I find it difficult to find a decent and durable capo that works. This Planet Waves Capo does work without a hitch. It keeps the strings tight on the fretboard without distorting the sound. I would definety buy one of these again, but I don’t think I will be doing so any time soon 😉

Definitely not flimsy (I was surprised to learn it was not metal,) I’ve owned one for several months and getting a 2nd Capo to pop in my other gig bag started to look around and couldn’t be bothered to evaluate another product as I really have no complaints with this one so I bought another.

Very very good. Dropped a star because they pop off if you try using them as a five string capo.

Excellent quality and very affordable price. I use this on my steel-stringed acoustic guitar and find that it gives a great sound wherever it’s placed upon the fretboard. Many capos that I have used in the past have inevitably broken but I have never had that fear with this capo.

I only give this 4 stars because the low E string will often sound out of tune but this can easily be resolved by re-placing the capo on the fret and positioning it properly or simply tuning the E string accordingly.

Don’t be put off by the 4/5 rating, I’d still highly recommend this to any guitar player!

I have these capos for classical (flat fretboard) and steel-string (cambered fretboard) guitars as well as for mandolin. Being very light they do not spoil the balance of the instruments. Being black and neatly proportioned, they are inconspicuous against and ebony fretboard. The micrometric adjustment makes for minimum effect on tuning, and they seem very sturdy. The best capos I have had in my half century of guitar playing.

This is the 4th capo I’ve tried and at last I’ve found one that works in any scenario. I’ve found that the strap on types are either too tight or too loose depending on which fret you are on, and you need two hands to do them up. The trigger types seem to sometimes not quite clamp some of the strings tightly enough, and gets in the way of your hand when on the 1st fret after it.

This capo can be fitted with one hand and tightened to exactly the right pressure for any fret. It’s also pretty good in terms of interfering with you hand.

The quality is great – the micrometer type adjusting knob gives you one of those satisfying feelings of quality when you use it.

    Great product and great price.

    Overall pleased with good quality

It says ‘flat radius’ in the description above but it is not totally flat like the classical guitar fretboard.
As the rubber padding squashes in a bit I would say it is more multi purpose to also fit slightly bevelled guitar fretboards,
I have found it long enough for full size classical guitars to cover all the strings .
    It is easy to use.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought this after struggling with my old capo which was the standard spring/lever type. I had this view that capo’s are just not easy to use. When this one arrived I was just delighted. It is light, robust, easy to use with one hand. Convenient to carry or store. Everything about it surpassed my expectations. This is a great device and so easy to use. What I especially liked was that you can easily moderate the pressure so avoiding heavy clamping which tends to knock the strings out of pitch. I believe there is a heavier version – I think it is called the Pro. What that is like I don’t know, but for my electric and acoustic guitars on stage the capo is quick and effective. Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis product allows you to get the perfect tension and doesn’t impede your tone at all. Downside is because of its precision tightening (you screw it to tighten and can thus adjust the tightness) you’re not going be able to play ‘To The Light’ by Newton Faulkner.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThis is the best Capo I’ve tried, better than Kyser or 24 G7th. Its light and its easy to tighen it just enough to cleanly raise the pitch, without sending the guitar too far out of tune. No capo I’ve used is as easy to set just the right amount of pressure – and its cheaper than other quality capo’s. Liked the heft of the G7th, love Kysers’ cut capo, but for a standard capo your search is over!

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersI’ve been playing classical guitar for a while now, and I recently needed a capo. In my ignorance, I presumed selecting a capo would be easy. However I soon realised there where several considerations:
    1) Classical guitars need specific capo’s. This rules out a lot of cheap ‘electric/ acoustic’ capo options.
    2) Probably due to the niche market, capos for classicla guitar seemed quite expensive, some costing 30+
    3) My guitar has quite a broad neck, so I wanted to ensure the capo selected would fit.
    4) They come in a range of materials, plastic vs. metal with a variety of materials for the ‘cushion’ to fret the strings.
    and finally
    4) Few of the suitable capo’s on amazon had product reviews, so I was stabbing a bit in the dark.

So why did I choose this one?
Firstly, it was mid price range. Not the cheapest, but by no means the most expensive. If I’m honest, at 15 it was still double the price I would have ideally paid (being a poor student) but quality costs. I feared the longevity of the plastic ones, and it seemed like it would fit my guitar- so I took a gamble.

    Did it pay off?
    Yes- it really did.
The capo arrived quickly, after slipping it out of its casing I was impressed by how light it was but how sturdy it felt.
The cushion to fret the guitar is a high density sponge which seems like it will withstand wear and tear (though mine is showing indents alread- but this is to be expected). The capo is fitted to the guitar buy manually screwing it tight (easier than it sounds) and allows greater precision and is a lot gentler than those that just clamp onto the guitar neck. When I play with the capo in place it sounds perfect, no buzzing at all.

Over all, its a bit expensive but its a piece of kit that will last, sounds perfect and is gentle on the guitar.

This is a great product. Not the fastest capo to fix but probably the neatest and very adjustable in pressure to fit most curved fingerboard guitars (there is a classical version too). Sadly my plastic version broke so I invested in the “pro” metal version which is very neat and identical in appearance. However, Planet Waves sent me a free replacement for the plastic model so now I have a spare. Highly thought of by many players at the IGF Guitar summer school in Cheltenham and rightly so.

Not sure what the difference is between this one and the NS Lite but I have to say this is my favourite capo. Its small and aesthetically very nice, looks very sleek when on the guitar. Easy use with one hand and very precise with the amount of lock you need. Only problem is that its very easy to lose.

I mainly use a Shubb capo, but this one is a really good alternative – it works well and is very light so can be carried unnoticed in a pocket and takes only fractionally longer to apply. Like the Shubb it can also be used as a partial Capo, leaving the bottom string out.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought a cheap spring operated imitation Dunlop capo and in three months it broke, literally fell apart, the metal bent and that was it. So I bit the bullet, splashed out on this little beauty and I am happy happy happy. A year later of daily use, it is small, light and lovely. The screw operation is gentle on the strings. Not sure about the one handed operation as a selling point, it can be done but doesn’t really lend itself to that. I always use two.
