Great heater but a little complicated to set timers could be a lot easier to set up.. but with that said would buy agai
Great heater, fab heat. Timer can be a little confusing.
As expected from delonghi absolute top quality
Eco mode gets our large living room heated up in minutes !
Very impressed
+looks nice as far as heaters go
+warms room up fairly quick
+eco mode
-quite big and bulky
-difficult to program anything other than a set temperature
Good build quality and probably likely to last a long time. Heats up quickly and quiet when in use.
Does what it supposed to – appears to be well made
This is a brilliant convection heater and really wants the room up quickly and is much more cost-effective than using central heating. I find this one provides a much nicer/less drying heat, probably because it is away from the wall so it heats the room up quicker and requires less time to get a comfortable heat than the radiators.
Lots of people seem to be complaining about the high pitch noise/alarm sound that you get when you press the power button. But that is configurable- you can switch off easily-
When the unit is on but in standby mode, press and hold the knob for about five seconds, the screen will show some dashes, press the clock button and then turn the knob to turn the sound off (red circle with sdoff text).
There is a short video on YouTube which explains all the features very well if you just search for DeLonghi Dragon 4, it comes up as the first result in the UK.
The only slight negative point I would make It is that it would be better if the cable was on the other end ( not the display end). You’re obviously going to have the display end facing towards you/closer to you, so that means that 50 cm or so of the cable is wasted and it gets in the way more if you move it. I might end up taping the cable up underneath and extending although this will depend on how I get on with it for a while. This probably only impacts you if you plan on moving the heater around the room much which I suppose most people won’t.
So this product I’m using it for about 1-month and I really like this product because it’s working great and I will suggest you always to buy this one and if it’s on the sale
Bought this to heat our home as we are trying to limit the large amount of gas we were using, now have a choice. And this heats up our lounge in an insta
Heat output not as vigorous as I expected. I already have an oil fired heater and the heat output seems a little more efficient. However it still does the job.
after we discovered our other heater was not working correctly we bought this as a replacement and it is a good improvement. It heats our office up nicely and ticks over each night, my only gripe is that you cant programme it differently for each day so we take it off timer each weekend
I’m in my 30s and have worked on fighter aircraft and power stations but without the manual you’d have no chance of setting the timers.
For such a simple task it is way over complicated.
Great heat output and easy to use. Good timmer and temperature gauge. Only downside is the short power cord which reduces moveme
This produces a lot of heat through convection through the top ‘chinneys’ but also, because it has an outer casing, though horizontal radiation heat. It easily warms my 4.4m x 3m living room (modern insulation) on the lower setting. It heats up quick. The thermostat allows you to regulate the room temperature, I compared it to an external thermometer and it seemed accurate. If you put it on medium or high it will drop a power setting as it approaches the desired temperature, which is economical. It’s quite big and heavy but the extra size means extra heat. Some have said it makes a noise but I can’t hear a thing and I’m sensitive to sound. It makes a quiet click when it turns on and off with the thermostat. The display is relatively bright in a room with no lights on but I think you can turn it down (or get an eye mask for sleeping). Sturdy legs, no need to fit them. I haven’t used the timer function, it looks a bit complicated but the manufacturer has a tutorial video on YouTube. It looks helpful for timing it through the week. If you’re looking for a heater like a central heating radiator, you can’t go far wrong with this.
found setting instructions difficult to understand, took few attempts and watching you tube videos to finally get settings sorted (maybe an age thing)
I use this in an outbuilding utility space. Works great, leave it set to a temp and it switches on and off when needed.
Looking for a replacement for my original oil heater and saw this was on offer. Love it, really easy to use and heats up quickly. Cable could be longer, but I’d still buy it again. Happy customer. Thanks.
This review is for the 2Kw version: TRDX40820E.
Very nice heater and while the timer function is a bit fiddly, it is ok. (There are some good YouTube videos on how to use it).
I have had a Delonghi Rapido oil filled radiator for probably nearly 14 years and it is still working fine. That has heating power up to 3 Kw with its instant heat function (500 watt convector instant heat, 1000 watt oil radiator and 1500 watt oil radiator and any combination of the 3 settings), so I know these heaters are (or were) very high quality. I never used the full 3 Kw power though as I have never needed to and it is very near the limit for UK circuits. I wanted a new one mainly for the safety features and hoping it would be more economical with the Eco function.
The amazon advert is misleading for the TRDX40820E as it says this can be used for rooms up to 75 cubic metres, but it says that for the 2.5Kw version as well. Delving further, it says on the Delonghi site that this can be used for rooms up to 60 cubic metres. My room is 48.4 cubic Metres (6.11 x 3.43 x 2.31), so it should have been ok. I think if I had been buying again, I would by the 2.5Kw version, just for that extra headroom.
Trying to keep my living room at 20 deg c, I need to set the temperature to 25 deg C, but it warms up quickly. (Outside temperature 3 deg C, room start temperature at 14 deg C). It takes about 1.5 hours to stabilise in my room which isn’t particularly well insulated and has large NE facing windows.
I am not sure of the Eco function yet as can’t really see the difference in its operation: If you set it at a particular temperature, then surely that is what you want to keep it at? When set to Eco, the temperature drops a couple of degrees, but I am experimenting further. The power levels are interesting though: Level 1 is approx. 920 watts, Level 2 is 1100 watts and level 3 is 2000 watts, (depending on voltage fluctuations of course) so not linear and strange values I would have thought as the difference between level 1 and 2 is only 200 watts.
This unit is quite small, very well constructed and looks nice in the room. I would say it is just about enough power for my approx. 48 cubic metre room, so if your room is bigger, I would definitely get the higher power version.
One thing I was surprised about is that this version was made in China, my other one was made in Italy and I just assumed this one would be as well. That does not mean that it is of lower quality as a lot of products from China these days are very high quality and sometimes only assembled in China, the parts coming from other countries. Only time will tell on its longevity but at the moment I would recommend it. It does appear to be more economical though at the moment, but we haven’t had any real long cold weather spells yet, (Jan 2022) and I have only had it a month. Between this and the Veito infra-red heater I have, I can tailor the type of heat for the room. E.g., if I am on my own working and don’t require the whole room to be warm I use the Veito, but for whole room warmth when other people are here, then I use this.
Wanted a modern portable oil heater that can be used permanently on a thermostat setting, so we use it on lowish setting so it kicks in !
But there’s also the option to set up the timer for defined periods I haven’t used that so cannot comment on that aspect.
It’s relatively quiet just the odd click of thermostat as it switches on..
In a few minutes heats the room and the warm stays in the room after switching it off. It has eco mode too.
I love this heater, it is easy to use and gives off plenty of heat. It warms my room/office quickly and has the added bonus of a thermostat to regulate the heat so I don’t have to switch it on and off when I get too hot or too cold.
Use this as a heater in a converted garage office that’s insulated. The heater works very well, particularly on the default timer setting.
High quality design. Clean features. Multitude of scheduling options (time, heat etc.). Very economical – have monitored for a week. Best oil-filled radiator I have bought.
Heated up quick and seems to be effective. Programming timer a bit fiddly. Nice looking and kept large room warm for elderly mum
Looks good and is a welcome addition now that winter has arrived. Bought with a view to cutting back on the use of the gas central heating. Had to wait a month for delivery due to it being out of stock. Like the fact that it has a digital display.
Purchased to heat a well insulated 3 x 4 m garden shed we use as an office and activity space. The heater is solid and very well made. Impressed by the 10 year warranty.
We use the daily timer function to cycle between 5 C. no-frost at night and 21 C. day time setting. The room becomes comfortably warm in 15 minutes. The timer function is easy to use once you understand it, but you will need to read the manual carefully as setting is not completely intuitive.
I’ve put mine in the conservatory which is where I work most days and it’s brilliant! It doesn’t take long to warm up the room and I use the eco setting to keep the room at the same temperature all day. I’m not sure how efficient it is i.e. for my electric bill but it’s guaranteed to be less than what I’m now paying for gas!
Bought this for a backup heating solution. Heats well but would recommend the next size up for any moderate to large room. Winters just about hitting London and I felt that even at its highest setting it was just taking the chill off the room and nothing more.
2 kWh version, feels quality and works extremely well, the heat output is great and the easy to use controls do their job without much fuss.
The only time the heater makes any kind of beeping is when first powered up or turned on, it’ll make a very silent click when changing power modes but it’s quite silent otherwise.
We have left the unit unplugged overnight and it will remember previous settings when powered up again, not tried longer then that yet to see if it forgets.
Eco mode seems a little high on power usage but we need more time to check in colder weather, but there’s always the option to set the timer to turn off every 30 minutes to save more power, the oil will stay a good temp for that time as intended by design.
Bought this for my daughter’s bedroom. Temperature controlled so you can set the temperature and times. Her room is medium size so can heat the room very well
Good for home office room. Keeps warm for a long time once it’s heated fully.
Glad I purchased this better than other heaters. Saves high energy bills. Easy to move and heats room very quickly.
My room is 36m2 it warms up in no time brilliant heater recommend it all day long
This is the best radiator I have ever bought. It was very helpful during winter. It’s a bit complicated to set up timer as I found instruction was poor. It would be helpful if they can provide proper instruction or video somewhere online at leas
Box was damaged but the radiator is ok and works perfectly xx
Very powerful and great quality. Spend a little more and buy this one vs the cheaper ones.
Compared to the 2kw oil filled radiator I bought from Tesco a week earlier, this is like an industrial furnace. It’s amazing. A fantastic buy. Heats a big room up with ease. Excellent.
I am astounded at the heat given out by this small radiator; worth every penny. I am just about to order one for upstairs.
It works nicely. Heats up a large size room in no time. I did not give it 5* simply because I rarely do that.
We needed a heater to boost up the warmth in our sitting room on cold evenings. After some research this seemed like a good model and it has proved to work well. It heats up quickly and regulates itself efficiently. There was little to no noticeable smell when first heating from new.
The programmer took a little while to figure out – some settings require multiple presses of the control button to get to the correct option. There is a facility to set recurring timed periods through the day. I would have preferred a duration timer, ie, set it to run for 3 or 4 hours after startup and then automatically switch off, but I can’t see an option for that. As it is one has to remember to switch off manually if not using the programmer – not a big deal but one would have thought it a simple option to add such a timer option (if anyone has found that option is actually there I’d be keen to know how it is set!).
That said, we run it on the eco setting which automatically regulates the temperature to achieve whatever maximum you set on the dial and shows which of the 3 power settings it is using at any given moment. This works well and helps conserve energy. It makes a noticeable difference to our 5m x 4m room with max temp set at 23. Of course it can go higher than this but 23 is comfortable for us.
Some people have complained of annoying clicking sounds. I’ve only noticed some clicking of the casing cooling down after the unit is switched off. It doesn’t last long. The casing seems solid and well designed – it’s a clean and contemporary design and build quality is good. The lead is on the short side but it is perfectly possible to use an extension lead (the manufacturers advise against it but that’s almost certainly a hedge against liability) – just make sure it is a heavy duty one rated to handle higher currents and don’t coil it up while the heater is running. We have had no issues with ours and the cable doesn’t get warm.
Really good radiator. It is worth paying a bit extra for it.
Being able to regulate the room temperature is very convenient.
The quality of the product is outstanding.
Excellent heater and very simple controls. The 24-hr timer facility is great. It heats our converted garage very quick.
All good but it could be simpler to program. Worked it out eventually, but keep the manual safe if you want to change it again!
Lovely little dragon has given the cold room in the house a new lease of life.
I Keep it low over night and turn it up a notch or two in the morning.
Doesn’t cost too much to run like this and it keeps the thermal mass of the room up.
Highly recommend
I am pretty impressed with this radiator. The heat output is certainly sufficient for my needs (bedroom, not too large) and it warms the room really quickly. Stays warm for a good while too, which is the main benefit of an oil-filled radiator.
I really like that you can set a timer with a minimum temperature as well as a desired temperature. For instance, I set my timer to come on at certain times and heat the room to 18 degrees; however I can also set a minimum temperature – e.g. 14 degrees – so if the room drops below that level the radiator will come on and override the timer. This is a very sensible feature in my opinion.
The biggest pain I’ve found is that setting the timer/temperature is a bit fiddly. That’s often the case when a device has very few buttons – each one has to do different things at different times and that can be a bit confusing. Having said that I managed it pretty easily so I wouldn’t let it put you off.
The radiator is certainly robust (and heavy), not flimsy like some, and the 10-year warranty gives you the impression that it won’t conk out after just a couple of years.
Received my delonghi oil heater and I’m please to say it is a very good heater. I have always brought delonghi but last year I switched to Dimplex just for a change and I regret it. Comparing delonghi to Dimplex miles apart!. This digital dial control is just great it will warm up your room at the set temperature to the set time. I am only getting to understand the settings, so can’t comment on everything. So far so good the delonghi is very warm and I hope it will give out a long service.
This is a great product. We’ve had an older De’longhi heater for many years but it had to be reprogrammed every time it was switched off or lost power. The new one has a digital memory so is easier to reset.
My only problem was getting my head around how the timer worked! You need to be logical and start at midnight, working your way through the hours rather than trying to set random time periods. Could do with 3 temperature settings though then could use OFF, 5 degrees, and ‘normal’ setting such as 20 degrees.
Product is all fine, but emits a very high pitch frequency when plugged in. This becomes more intense when it starts to heat. Maybe some people won’t hear this, but I can. I usually unplug it when not using and temporarily leave the room whole it’s warming up.
The De’Longhi TRDX40820E is a good self contained radiator. Its castors roll smoothly over my wooded floor. The three controls – a big rotating dial and tow buttons are easy to use and always its clear what they are changing.
The screen is bright and easy to read; and although harder than an app would have been, it was easy to set an on off time. Turning it on the screen shows the set temperature and an indication of how much energy its using to get there (via 3 bars.) Once it gets to temperature the power useage drops to a low state quite quickly. When you unplug it it looses its temperature in about an hour – to cool to the touch. It has been a good stand in my home office. Thanks to smart sockets and metering on my essentially standard power tarif; running it 8 hours a day added up-to 1.50 to my daily energy bill.
Unplugging it for a few minutes makes it loose the clock which is the most frustrating thing for me; as i powered the socket off for a few hours and came back to having to re-enter everything. Delonghi need to make an app enabled version so we can control from our phones; or put a battery in.
I purchased the equivalent older model two years ago which we still use daily, the house we are currently living in has a grossly inadequate, undersized central heating system. The controls and settings on the TRDX40820E have been simplified and are a doddle to use. It’s a very powerful heater that quickly heats up a room and maintains the set temperature, and unlike the previous model – no smell. It’s a class act!
Really easy to use control with digital timer and digital temperature control
This radiator has some negatives, the power cable is too short and the timer is quite cumbersome.
I think the main pluses are the screen and efficiency. If you just want to lift a small draughty room from 13-15c to 18c then this will do the job. The thermostat seems to have no bearing on the temperature of the room and often says 20c when the air is 16c
Very pleased with item. It moves easily and heats a room that was in need of a boost..Throws out a lot of heat quickly.
Standard high quality DeLonghi radiator. Notable features from other models- LED display, very clear, easy to change temperature with dial, however lights up room at night so not ideal for bedroom. Very annoying beeps when turned on / off etc.
Eco mode is great- modulates heat output according to room temp. Starts on high setting then reduces as room approaches desired temperature. This leads to less on / off cycling and a more consistent room temperature. It doesn’t necessarily save money as it can’t change the laws of thermodynamics.
Used for heating my sun porch really easy to set temperature. Grea
Good looking and works well but the timer is a complete nightmare.
Far superior to the previous oil filled radiator we had. Only problem being hard to follow programming instructions for daily timer programming. Once you know how to program the instructions make perfect sense, however the intructions need to be clearer for those who don’t know how to program!!
Excellent product and very stylish … original orders arrived damaged but Amazon’s customer service as always was excellent.
Great heat outputs & very easy controls to understand.
I use it to heat up a large room and it works great. Much stronger than previous portable radiators I’ve used in the pas
Brilliant product, the heat it radiates is excellent. Heats the room up quickly, found the timer easy to set – but did use the YouTube videos which were much clearer than the instructions.
Very good recommend to everyone. Room heat up very quickly.
Excellent oil filled radiator , heats up quickly , best function is the eco mode , we leave it on this mode all of the time and turn it down to about 15 when we leave the room and go to bed , annoying function is the loud audible beep when you turn the radiator on and off , that’s why we leave the unit on all the time and just turn down the temperature when it’s not required to heat the room up
Great heater, very effective and quick to heat up. Looks nice too.
I’ve owned De’Longhi oil filled radiators for years and I think they are the best
I found that this particular model doesn’t get as hot as my old one for some reason even though they are both 2kw
I never use a timer so I can’t comment on how easy it is to use but the other controls are very easy to use and there’s a Eco mode as well
I returned mine as I wasn’t impressed against my older version but if this is your first De’Longhi I’m sure you’ll be happy with i
There’s absolutely nothing to dislike about this heater, it’s excellent at heating, no smells or noise and can be set to come on at any time, this is the second DeLonghi heater that I’ve bought the first one maybe 10 years ago and it’s as good as the first day I used it, the heat is extreme and I seldom ever use it on full power, brilliant brand and brilliant heate
It’s the most expensive product of its type. But it does deliver. My only gripe is the timer function – it defaults to off if the power is cut. So on power resume it’s only going to heat if you go in and turn it on from standby. This means I can’t use a smart plug or similar to turn it off at the weekend. The timer is only 24 hour – and it repeats every day. So you can’t have different weekday or weekend options.
Arrived early and in perfect condition, after being shipped from Doncaster to the North of Scotland, by at least two couriers.
Read several other reviews about them being damaged in transit.
The review dated: 2nd October is correct, as the there is no remote control and nearly all settings etc, are done with a rotary knob.
Have not attempted to set up the timer, just using the heater manually, set at 17C and on lowest heat (900 watts) to take the chill away from an East facing bedroom dormer window, in a attic flat.
Other reviews have mentioned that the power cable is too short, but I find it long enough.
I initially had a problem registering for the 10 year warranty, as De’Longhi ask for prof of purchase.
Possibly my fault, but in the end, I scanned the Amazon invoice and attached that.
All in all, an excellent heater and will easily be moved to other rooms, as and when required.
Great looking, well built radiator. Kicks out a lot of heat quickly and is quiet in operation. I’m using this to heat a 3×3 Meter Conservatory and this radiator does this with ease. The only three issues I have are;
1. Instructions are next to useless, impossible to set the timer function using these. Luckily De,Longhi have posted 7 “how to” videos on YouTube which explains the process in easy to follow steps and once you’ve watched these setting the timer is a breeze.
2. The pictures on Amazon does not show the radiator you will get, I have posted a picture of the radiator you will get. In my opinion with a single rotary dial it is a lot cleaner to look at and easier to operate. ( I have informed Amazon that the pictures are incorrect)
3. You do not get a remote control and the sides do get quite warm, so as with any heater care needs to be taken when it’s in operation.
Overall a fantastic radiator which heats up very quickly and looks and feels well built.
