Exactly what I said in the title. Robust enough to easily handle 2 year old beech hedge growth, good battery life, easy maintenance, andhigh quality materials
This gets through the job, no recharging requirement, my previous one could barely get through 20- 30mins, so moved to a cable, which careless me cut through two, cables on differnt units, stulid i know, but as per title, i really wish i just spent the money on this to befin with.
This has transformed the job of cutting my beech hedge. I have a run of 150m of hedge to cut and this unit makes very light work of it compared to my old cable connected unit. Being battery operated saves a huge amount of time compared to managing long runs of electrical cable.
The unit is reasonably lightweight, cuts much more effectively than I had expected and I can just about cut the entire hedge on one fully charged battery.
Definitely well worth the money I think.
It’s nice and light easy to use slower than a petrol hedge cutter but brilliant for awkward spaces
Great product. Comes with a battery charger which they don’t make clear.
I’ve used the Dewalt 18v system for almost 7 years now, and in all of that time I’ve never had a complaint against any of their range of tools. This hedge trimmer is another good tool and I find it easy to use and light enough to complete an hours hedge cutting
I have plenty of Dewalt tools , and decided I needed a smaller trimmer for the vertical faces of my hedging. The Stihl petrol will do everything else but its heavy.
The Dewalt in this case was a steal as it included a 5AH battery and charger for not too much more money than a bare unit . Battery charged and I went to work on the hedge.
It cuts well and the battery life was impressive – better than the performance of my strimmer.
However – personally – for me , as I was using this tool for vertical cutting , I found the ERGO of the trigger handle to be poor and my hand ached quickly.
The tool is not too heavy and did not introduce any fatigue through weight , just posture of my wrist.
Its ok on Horizontal work though.
A possible solution would be to have the blade part rotate where it joins the handle.
This would provide much more comfort.
Also , I cant tell from the packaging or the tool if it is brushless or not !.
This is so handy, I had an electric one that got its power from a cable. This is lightweight and easy to move around, also no risk of my chopping the cable as it’s not got one. Not trashed the battery life, but cut around my small garden without needing a charge.
The before and after photos do not really do the hedges justice. They cover two thirds of the garden’s boundary, are 12ft tall and nearly 6ft deep at their deepest. The hedges comprise of Holly, Conifers, Black Thorne, Elder, Ivy and another variegated hedging I do know the name of but escapes me – a proper hodgepodge!
My main reason for choosing cordless over petrol and mains is for ease. My current mains powered Black and Decker trimmers are great but the combo of mains cord, extension cables, mains breaker, ground covers, hedges clippings and ladders is a nightmare. You’d be amazed how taking mains and extension cables out of the equation has made my life safer and easier.
Hedge trimming is something I now look forward to with ease.
First impressions of the trimmers is they are responsibly light, well constructed with a neat trigger and cut out handle, nearly as powerful as any petrol I’ve used, as powerful as mains and cut the hedges on one charge – 18v 5amp battery as included.
I can’t fault my first experience with cordless DeWalt trimmers and would recommend these to everyone with mixed hedging like mine. They had no issues cutting all types of leaf and branch regrowth. The branches of Conifer regrowth were up to 20mm in places and the trimmers had no issues with them either.
Cuts through any hedge so light and easy to use .done a 60ft long hedge in 50 minutes still had loads of life in battery
I don’t know what type of hedge this is but it’s horrible to cut as the twigs/stems/branches/ whatever you call them are quite thick and it takes ages. I normally use an corded trimmer but with the weather being hit and miss i didn’t to risk plugs and extension leads, so i bought the DeWalt trimmer. I have a couple of DeWalt cordless drills so knowing the quality and interchangeable batteries it was a no-brainer. It cut through the hedge like a hot knife butter, no snagging, no clogging, just effortless! Battery life was excellent, on a 5ah battery i’d used one bar to cut the whole hedge. It is fairly lightweight but my arms were a bit aching after doing the top but the hedge is 6ft high and i haven’t been to the gym in a while lol. Yes it is expensive compared to other brands but you’re paying for quality, and even after one cut it’s fully justified.
I bought this to replace my heavy 2 stroke petrol hedge trimmer which I was starting to struggle with due to it’s weight. Especially when working above my head. Now I consider this Dewalt trimmer as a supplement. It’s much lighter, easier to use , cleaner, and easy to start. I also use a 3ah battery which make it lighter again and still provides enough run time. Consequently I use it more often. It’s ideal for my privet and leylandii. For the heavier stuff eg the copper beach I still need the extra grunt of the petrol trimmer.
I have 8 foot hedges which run around my entire back garden, they must be 30 metres in length… This trimmer and x1 5ah battery did all hedge fronts and tops and still had power left.
Makes jobs do much easier not wrestling with cables or breathing in 2 stroke petrol smoke.
I’m seriously impressed with the run time and cut on this trimmer.
Good battery life. Easily coped with hundred metres of very overgrown privet hedge in one go. Lightweight, and easy to manoeuvre. Hopefully will make it easier to keep edge under control in future.
Excellent product for anyone who already has bought into the desalt 18v ecosystem.
Breezed through my hedge in no time. What I really like is that it is light weight and fuss free to use. There are no wires to deal with and no need for petrol. Highly recommend!
Looking forward to seeing how it performs over time but so far it is awesome and very impressive for an 18v hedge trimmer. I would highly recommend.
As always Dewalt never fail. Light to use, makes cutting my 40m hedge a dream, and when finished I don’t smell of two stroke fumes.
I was dubious about buying this having used a petrol cutter last year. I have a large garden which is surrounded with different hedge all around. I would never go back to electric or petrol after using this. Great charge lasts ages, fast to recharge. Nice and sharp and very well balanced. No more mixing 2 stroke or cutting extension leads. Just walk out the door and get on with the job. Yes it’s expensive but comes with a three year warranty when you register it.
Easy to use, lightweight, cuts well, excellent run time with a 5ah battery,I would recommend this product.
Like all DeWalt kit, this is excellent. You get what you pay for with your toolkit. Sharp blade, lovely balance, clever safety catch. Really pleased
Wasn’t sure whether this would perform as well as a petrol or mains electricity version, but pleasantly surprised. With a reasonably powerful battery (ie 4/5 Ahr), it is more than capable of cutting thick branches but where I was really impressed was with the cleaness of the cut, which made trimming ornate bushes and hedges a breeze. Thoroughly recommended.
The product arrived when predicted, well packaged.
Product works well. Weight is ok for me but could understand it becoming too much to hold above one’s head is trimming a tall hedge.
My son commented that the blade does not allow thicker branches to be cut but he is used to a mains-power heavy-duty Bosch tool. It seems fine to me for what I’d want to cut with it. Otherwise he thought the DeWalt cordless was excellent to use. No timed test on the battery life as yet as we finish cutting a hedge (about an hours work) before it ran out!
I liked the ease of use. The ergonomics are what we are used to with Dewalt. The length of the blades are perfect, and the the cut is nice and clean. It tackles quite thick bark with ease too, considering it is only a hedge trimmer. Highly recommend.
Fantastic piece of kit perfect for a quick light hedge trim, just not quite powerful enough for a serious cut back. But it beats dragging cable about and setting it all up and packing away. On the whole a piece of kit I feel I can highly recommend.
What a piece of quality equipment this is, I trim all the bushes in my school and this trimmer goes through everything like a knife through butter… only 1 tiny grumble with ease of use, the battery angle means it presses into your wrist! Someone suggested I tie wrap the button down so one hand could be on the handle n one on the battery for better maneuverability… but that could be dangerous, so of course I wouldn’t suggest that!! overall a fantastic machine.
Great for all types of hedges. No back ache after using – light weight.
Not too heavy and a great battery life, a lot of hedges to cut and done the job well
Excellent- easy to use, not too heavy, great battery life and not left feeling like your arms have been shook !
I have been involved in Arboriculture for 30+ years and was sceptical about the domestic battery power tools. I have to say i am impressed. It does not have the cut diameter of your professional hedge cutters but then it does not cost 400+. Wanted a domestic tool for cutting my fathers hedges which are a mixture of privet, conifer, bay and box. First thing i noted was the quality of cut, this thing is seriously sharp. You are limited to diameter of cut however so you will still need your trusted loppers. Battery life is excellent, very low geared, so on par with the professional kit for longevity. Overall very good and as a bonus i can use the battery in my Dewalt power drill !
Great battery life. Can do front privitt hedges 5mt long 2mt high both sides and top plus rear hedges both sides and top 40mt long each 2Mt high. Still life left in battery.
Great service. Arrived a day early. At first go I wasn’t too impressed but ended up being great. Cutting through 20mm privet branches. Slightly more difficult to use if you need to take the privet back alot but my hedge is an out of control, impenetrable monster. If you need something for general maintenence of already under control hedges, this will be amazing very quiet and the battery lasted around 2hrs or more with still one bar of charge left.
This is great. Good battery life and chops through some quite thick hedge / shrubbery. Yes there are cheaper ones out there but I certainly got what I paid for with this.
Arrived even earlier than expected. Very pleased with this item.
Great bit of kit although less power than the usual petrol cutters I buy, the cutting blades themselves are a lot sharper therefore gives a better cut.
The reviews speak for themselves…. i have 240 laurel bushes about 4 foot high… and growing fast. this cut and shaped the whole place in less than an hour (one charge). We will see how things go when the hedge matures and thickens, but for the moment its perfect.
We have some very large hedges and this is brilliant. So much lighter than petrol one. You can actually shape things. So far has handled privet and holly hedges. Battery lasts a good couple of hours and as a bonus fits my other tools. Good high speed charger is included. Faster than the one that came with drills.
Great bit of kit. Another addition to my dewalt collection. Can’t beat the build quality of Dewalt. To be totally honest I thought i was just buying the bare unit. I was surprised when I opened the box and found a 5 Ah battery and charger. Bonus.
I’ve had a cable Black & Decker that I’ve been dragging around for years. What a difference it makes being cordless! So light and maneuverable. Really please with it.
Nice and sharpe made light work of my conifers and other hedges.
Used half battery In about 2 hours.
I’ve had various hedge trimmers over the years. Petrol is a pain getting started after winter. Cabled is a pain dragging cord and always feels dangerous. I went for cheaper battery powered previous to this and was ok but batteries failed and trimmer jammed. This DeWalt is expensive but worth every penny. Finished my hedges in less half the time. Precision and quality. I’d previously bought the DeWalt strimmer again quality, powerful and battery lasts. All tools I buy in future will be this brand. Bulletproof and makes painful jobs easy
Excellent quality tool. Cuts light hedging such as box, lavender etc like a dream. Tried it on some slightly heavier work and it still does a great job. Absolutely fine up to 2cm laurel. Not yet tried on Holly hedge or harder stuff like blackthorn.
It’s beautifully built like all De Walt stuff.
I can’t fault it.
Bought this to replace a smaller Bosch hedge trimmer. The DeWalt has a longer bar (the hedge has got taller) and a much better battery – faster to charge and lasts much longer. The tooth-spacing is slightly larger than the Bosch so I am able to cut thicker branches more easily. I cut all the hedges (which I had neglected for some time so were long and ragged) quickly and the battery indicator still showed three-bars (ie maximum) after 20-30 minutes of cutting. I found it easier to get straight sides and top with the longer ba
Just got it – cut a hedge or two – light weight – does the job – dewalt lives up to its name – haven’t used it long enough but wud keep u updated … happy with the purchase so far
Edit 2/12/2019 :
Used it in home – super happy – does the job good
It’s worthy enough
This is a long term review, it has never let me down, very powerful and what lead me to purchase this is NO CABLE to sever. With a full battery it will last for hours in fact I only have to charge it every 4 or 5 cutting periods.
it is a perfect length, if the cutter was any longer and it would be unwieldy and hard to hold for any length of time. Blades are still sharp despite me being a bit rough with the cutting thicknesses. Its a typical Dewalt tool and well worth the purchase.
I have a lot of Dewalt XR tools as well as the cordless strimmer which I have found very good. As with all the Dewalt tools the hedge trimmer feels really solid. It is easy to use and I personally like the safety switch that limits the possibility of starting the trimmer accidentally. Battery is quick to charge and run time is pretty good. Time will tell if this drops off over time. The trimmer is quite light compared to my petrol trimmer but a little heavier than the old corded trimmer. I have tried the trimmer on some small euonymus hedges and it coped reasonably well. The blades cut through the new growth really easily but it was noticeably less powerful that my petrol trimmer so not sure how it will fair on some of the thicker growth on my conifer hedge. Overall I would say that it is great for light work but if you have a lot of thick hedge then you may want to test first.
Awesome bit of kit.
Heavy in a good way, feels VERY solid and cuts extremely well. Battery life is brilliant with the 5ah and it charges fast too.
Really really impressive.
Had mine a year, no issues. Only problem is the weight. 30 meters of 8ft high hedge and you’ll have to stop, unless you use it every day and are used to it. Very disappointed with Dewalt not keeping up with the competition and providing a pole hedge trimmer/saw/strimmer etc tool to this battery set. They seem to have lost their way recently. Pole hedge trimmer is where it’s at for heavy hedge trimming. Less arm action, lighter weight with a belt hook for support. See the Oregon range or Milwaukee if your feeling flush.
Fantastic piece of kit. So easy and lightweight to use
Replaced my petrol Trimmer after many years of use as it was struggling to start after the winter layup. Went for this due to having loads of Dewalt XR tools. Not disappointed, so much lighter that the petrol trimmer with a lot less vibration. Battery only used one bar after 1 hrs use. Well recommended.
I spent weeks trying to decide which hedge trimmer to go for and eventually threw in the towel going for the Dewalt simply because I already have the batteries and tools.
I have privet and some conifer type hedges front and back. No idea how many metres but I’ll just say more than enough.
5ah battery lasts forever, all my hedges are handled happily by one charge, with juice left over for manically chasing kids around the garden. Cuts clean and is easy to handle, being lightweight.
My 18v Dewalt circular saw easily chops through railway sleepers in 2 passes, so I decided it’s unlikely that 18v wont be enough.
Really very effective especially bearing in mind this is a cordless tool. The battery lasts much longer than I can work for and the quality is up to the usual Dewalt standard. I managed to drop mine off a ladder onto tarmac and it survived a 6 foot fall. Its not cheap but you really do get what you pay for
The construction probably contributes to its main drawback, it is heavier than expected. So not for for some people, my better half is not keen. Also the the safety switch arangement is a pain but I guess thats the world we live in now.
Overall it will cut just about any hedge, no cable and its lighter and quiter than a petrol. Brilliant bit of kit. As with any garden tool, but especailly hedge cutters always oil the blades or spray with WD40 after every use.
Quality item ,sturdy, easy to use ,light weight ,great as cordless ,battery life very good ,highly recommend
I have never cut a hedge before but found this easy to use.
Great piece of kit , nice and light with addition of being cord free
Proper hedge trimmer that shares batteries with all my power tools.
Have other DeWalt tools. This is the brush less HR model. (Always look for HR on DeWalt tools). Cuts through my laurel hedge effortlessly (which my old 14 volt Bosch won’t touch). Expensive but you’ll never want anothe
I bought the DCM563P1 because my old cabled Bosch AHS 42-16 hedge trimmer stopped working. The fact that I already had a DeWalt cordless drill that takes the same battery helped me to make the decision to get the DeWalt hedge trimmer.
It’s a revelation to use a cordless hedge trimmer when I’ve used a cabled one for many years. It’s safer (no mains cables to worry about) and I was surprised to find that the DCM563P1 was more powerful than my old mains Bosch as I actually cut my hedge six inches lower than previous recent cuts, so I was cutting much more woody branches, which the old Bosch would not have done.
Battery life was good and better than expected, especially as I was cutting tough woody branches.
If you’re looking for a cordless hedge trimmer then you will not be disappointed with the DCM563P1. If you already have other DeWalt equipment that uses the same battery system then it really is a no brainer – get the DCM563P1!
This has made my day….I chose this product as the build quality is second to none – it also it came with the 5ah Lithium-ion battery (which a lot of people shout about as being the best and I agree) rather than the bare unit.
I decided on this combination so I could trim my 60metre hedge without the problem of extension cords or wires with my hedge being so long it turns into 120metres on both sides…it literally does last for 75minutes (continually)…and keeps the charge when you come back to it…also I can use the battery with my other 18v DeWalt products…..10/10…problem is I have to sweep up quicker….
….but don’t be persuaded to buy the compatible battery packs – enough said.
Not sure how long the battery lasts as it has outlasted me everytime. At least 30mins. It works very well, doesn’t jam and cuts thick branches. Even able to chew through wider diameter that stated. Its so quick I can’t imagine battery time will be a problem.
High quality product, as you would expect from DeWalt. Has a surprising amount of power for a battery-based trimmer. It was capable of cutting a number of different hedges without issue.
Very impressed with this hedge trimmer, its light and powerful, easily as good as cheaper petrol versions, but without all the extra weight and hassle of mixing up fuel and starting issues.
I use mine at home only, professionals who use theirs all day might still want to use petrol, but for my rather large garden, a single charge on the 5Ah battery was easily enough for a full end of summer hedge tidy up.
Excellent tool, highly recommended for home use!
Brilliant much less hassle than a cord or petrol hedge trimme
Product arrived promptly and on time. It appears a well made robust product. It’s too heavy for me to use but my husband is very pleased with it, so am I as it means he can no longer cut through cables!!!! He also informed me that it makes short work of our hedge. We would recommend this hedge trimmer.
Really works well and cuts clean, nice piece of equipment and no leads
This hedge cutter is great fast and light, on the down side it takes a while to cut through anything thicker than 10mm.
Arrived well packed and well in promised time. The product is really tough. I don’t have a massive amount of hedging and it is never out of control. There is lots of power left after cutting the hedges. It’s a bonus that I can interchange batteries with my other deWalt tools, should I need to.
Really is a top quality trimmer makes cutting the hedges so much easier not having to play about with cables
I was a little concerned if this would cope with cutting a large conifer hedge. The hedge is roughly 45mtrs. I need not have worried it has cut top and both sides on one battery 5amp without breaking a sweat, it is light weight well balanced exceptionally sharp. Time will tell if it keeps up the same performance. My petrol hedge trimmer will taking a back seat for a while.
Most of my electric tools are Dewalt and we become complacent with their excellent design/ efficiency. Then I noticed this little beauty on amazon. I was originally heading towards a motorised machine but with my neighbours complaining about noise when they are asleep during the day ( shift workers), I decided to try this excellent machine from Dewalt. It is superb and cuts through hedge and brush in no time. The battery lasts for ever. It still had the full 3 bars showing after polishing off a lengthy hedge and other brush in the back garden afterwards. Superb equipment from Dewalt.
Absolutely amazed about how long the battery lasted. I ordered a second battery as I have a 100 m hedge which is 3m high. I cut one side of the hedge last weekend (only up to 2.2m) with one battery and it still has some power left!!!
Is it light? it weighs 3.5kg so its Ok and definitely lighter than one with a petrol engine!
No fumes and its quiet!
Worth the money.
Very satisfied.
Best there is. Bought this foe my 100M hedge and it handled it no problem on one battery charge. Easy to use quick delivery and good packaging. Well worth the price.
This is a DeWalt tool so I was expecting the highest quality and so far I have not been disappointed. The tool feels very powerful and cuts my privet hedge easily. The battery life is very impressive – I was able to cut my 100ft long by 6ft high hedge and still have one LED of power remaining. The Lithium batteries are the standard 18v XR ones which fit most DeWalt power tools. This tool is a well engineered professional tool which should have a long working life.
Bought this to trim Bauxx hedging but cant beleive how much trimming to other hedges I can do with this hedge cutter. No petrol fumes blowing around you. So light to use and quieter. Love it.
