Another addition to the Dewalt collection. Does exactly what it’s supposed to do.

This hedge cutter is both light weight and powerful. The battery lasts for long enough to cut quite a large hedge. It helps that the batteries are interchangeable with other smaller hand tools.

I was able to cut 12 meter wide hedge with a single 5ah Battery.
its quite an efficient piece of kit.
Just need to make sure to lubricate it before and after use.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI have the pole trimmer and chainsaw from DeWalt and have been very happy with those so thought I would try the standard trimmer. I also have a lot of DeWalt tools so have plenty of batteries.

The trimmer is in the normal yellow box, with nothing other than a brief user guide. I was slightly surprised there wasn’t a harness of any type. Also slightly surprised at how large the motor unit is. All in all it is a very impressive piece of kit, it really smacks of quality and considering it’s DeWalt value for money. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Construction is excellent, with all the switches very positive and the safety very easy to operate. Blade is very sharp as you would expect. It’s light and powerful.

First thing I did was try a 2ah and a 5ah battery. These are two new batteries that had both been recently charged to 100%. I have to say that I was very surprised by the outcome. The trimmer operates very well with the 2ah but it operates noticeably faster and with greater cutting power if you use a 5ah battery. So, I would say a 2ah is fine for general trimming but if you need something with a little bit more power then you need 5ah batteries.

I have two 5ah batteries and a 6a charger and found that by the time one ran out the other was charged, so I could keep going indefinitely without a break.

    Great build quality. Highly recommended.

I have a long, high Hawthorne, Holly, with a mix of ivy, hedge to keep under control. I tend to leave the hedge until as far into summer as I can so that I only need cut it twice per season. That’s how much I hate doing this job. Over the years I’ve used petrol and electric with a cable trimmers and both do the job but are heavy and unwieldy, especially from a ladder. Anyway I bought this Dewalt hoping it would make life easier and, quite simply, it has. It isn’t as light as you’d imagine but it is lighter than the others mentioned and I enjoy not having a cable to worry about which makes the jobs so much more pleasant. The blades are so sharp it slices easily even through tough Hawthorne. I can cut my hedge with just one battery, though it is running more sluggishly by the end. To me this didn’t matter as I have a few Dewalt tools and spare batteries too. If you have a lot of hedge to cut you may want to have two batteries on hand just in case. I certainly don’t regret buying this tool at all and highly recommend it for domestic use.

Good Quality tool as always from Dewalt.
Just purchased the bare unit as Already have batteries for other tools.
The small 2 Ah battery makes it lighter to use and lasted enough to cut plenty of bushes.

Really happy with the hedge trimmer. I already had 2 4ah batteries. Cut two hedges so far and battery still says 3/3 bars of charge. Not too heavy and easy to use, feels safe as well as requires 2 buttons to operate.

Very impressed with this machine. More than able to deal with cutting my 5m high, 2m wide and 30m long hedge. (See attached photos)
Few things to note regarding weight. Listing states weight of 2.5kg, it is NOT! Dewalt box states 3.5kg, it is NOT! Actual weight with a 2ah battery is nearer 3kg which is manageable. 5ah battery does make it quite heavy but better balanced. I used a 2ah battery 4 times to cut the main hedge, each battery lasting around 25 mins of cutting time. If your cutting a Laylandii hedge like mine, I would make sure you well oil the cutters with 3 in1 oil or equivalent after each battery change and before you put it away for the winter. Other than that it’s a very well made, heavy duty machine and well worth the money.

What’s not to like about DeWalt machinery. They are just excellent and make the job so much easier. We had already bought the extended hedge trimmer for our very high hedges but it was proving impossible to cut the lower hedges without accidently severing the limb of someone helping so we bought the standard trimmer and can now finish the job with ease. Even the wife uses it and loves it. 🙂

Easy to use, good safety features. Reliability yet to be seen, it’s 2 days old. My 5aH battery went from 3 lights to 2 lights after using it on and off for about 30 minutes. Cleaning is recommended with a spray resin solvent and then oiling the blades. Personally, I also like the safe 3 way to turn on switch, for obvious safety reasons. Believe me, you DO NOT want this thing operating by accident, because the sharp blades will take off your fingers in an instant.

OK, so I’ve had this a month now. It’s really good, and the battery really lasts ages. But sadly, they European version has an extra safety switch over the US model – the microswitch within the D handle, so that the user has to have two hands on the handles, and you can’t wave it around in the air, reaching that bit that’s just out of reach. sadly, this switch is very cheap, and has failed, and since I’d only be refunded the cost I paid for it, and the price has since shot up thanks to Brexit, I would in fact be left out of pocket. So I shall void the warranty, and remove the switch.

After buying my boyfriend a set of DeWalt drills with two batteries I decided to invest in a set of hedge cutters compatible with the batteries and they are awesome! So chuffed won’t be having to ask him all the time to cut them now. Handy tip: you can extend the 1 year warranty to 3 if you register on DeWalt withing 4 weeks of purchase
The serial number is listed on the box if it isn’t printed on the trimmers. Took us ages to find it!

Easy to use, good safety features (It has two switches to stop accidental start up ) Important to remember, this does not come with a battery or charger, I already had these for another tool, otherwise it would have been quite expensive!
The battery life is very good and it recharges quickly. The unit with battery attached is not light, however it is lighter than the mains operated trimmer I replaced.
Watch out for the blade guard, it doesn’t slide off easily and there is a danger of injury when you pull it off!

    10 e lode.

Having just purchased this to replace a petrol driven version, I found that this is easier to use, very light in comparison and using a 5ah battery, managed to cut easily a 30ft Pyracantha hedge, 1.5m thick with ease, taking a good 6″ in height of the hedge. Took a little bit of effort to cut through the very thick stems but much easier than in the past with less strain on the arms. The 5ah battery was still charged at the end of the cutting. Very impressed with this trimmer.

Purchased because I have other 18V DeWalt tools. I have been very impressed by the power, and long lasting of my other tools using both 1.2 and 5 amp hour batteries. I wish the cutting blade was a little longer for greater reach, but apart from that it does a decent job on my conifer hedges.

Decided to go for a cordless hedge trimmer after cutting through the mains cable for the umpteenth time of my other hedge trimmer.
After reading a number of reviews I went with the Dewalt as I already had some Dewalt batteries.
Once you master the safety triggers this is an easy trimmer to use and you’ll wonder why you never went cordless sooner.
Cutting strength is good and the blade length gives you good coverage for your cuts.

I find it easy to use, lightweight, especially compared to my previous electric trimmer, no more muscle aches. My hedge is a combination of privet, laurel, holly and hawthorn so variation in branch size and hardness. 2m high and about about 20m long.

I used my existing 1.5Ah batteries from my power drill, they last about 20 minutes each which is what I calculated from the option to buy the hedge trimmer with the 4.5Ah battery, so DeWalt’s estimated usage is about right.

    Very pleased with the trimmer.

It cuts very neatly and with a 5ah should keep you going most of the day, depending on how many hedgerows you have. It’s very lightweight considering the size.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our Userslike all dewalt tools this works great having the batterys already makes this a good purchase, does not drain the battery as much as I expected , this could prove to be expensive if you had to purchase the battery plus the charger , but for anybody in the building trade who has the battery available, and like me buys the bare tools it is worth it plus unlike other cordless hedge trimmers is unlikely to become useless once the battery dies after a few yaers and replacements are no longer available, dewalt 18v xr are so widely used that they should be about for quite some time

Firstly, I’m a big fan of all DeWalt 18v tools and garden equipment. I have drills, saws, strimmer etc. and I’m always impressed with the quality of their products.
I purchased this trimmer for small trees and bushes at home, but used it for the first time at my in-laws today on 5m tall beech hedges. It was brilliant. It cut through the hedge growth like a knife through butter. Very sharp blades. Battery life is good. Used it for 2 hours on a 5 ah battery and still had 1/2 power left. Highly recommended. Don’t buy a cheap trimmer, it’s a false economy – buy something that do the job and last!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersAs Always Dewalt has produced a quality bit of kit.
The unit is light and easy to use, the battery balances the blade perfectly.
Battery life is good, I got about 1 hour cutting using a 5Ah battery with quite a lot of stop staring as I was using a step ladder and have to keep moving it.
It feels very well made and the switches and very clunky not cheep and flimsy.
I would recommend the cutter to other customers but I would also recommend 2 batteries and have 1 on charge while using the other.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersAlready had a decent electric trimmer but because we have a 50 feet hedge running alongside a cut through walkway which starts after a fence and side of garage appropriate 60 feet long decided to invest in a cordless version.
Saw this reasonably new model from DeWalt so decided to order the bare unit since already had batteries with my drill and multi tool.
Ordered on a Tues and it arrived on Thurs.
With battery attached it isn’t overly heavy but it is very well balanced.
It has a very good safety mechanism in the trigger switch.
My partner used this to trim one side of the hedge and it took her less than 10mins – less time than it would have taken to set up the electric one with all the cables- so No Hassle and with the added safety bonus of no cable to accidentally cut through!
She is very impressed with this unit.
Used a 3.0aH battery but not able to properly assess battery life, but I have the luxury of more than one battery available so just kept spare charged up ready to go if needed.
Also used this to cut through thick branches of a bush we were removing- again impressed with its performance.
Overall very impressed with the quality and performance of this piece of kit and glad we invested in this model

Golden Review Award: 42 From Our UsersIn the past I have bought cheap cordless hedge trimmers and yes they work but the battery life is poor and they wear out too quickly and difficult or impossible to buy replacement batteries. So i decided to spend more for a Dewalt as I have their cordless drill which is great and came with two 2AH batteries. The trimmer was bought without a batteries as the 5AH is not cheap. Having used it for the first time and using one of my 2AH batteries it lasted about 25 mins, more than enough time to do my hedge. Im glad I didn’t shell out for the 5AH as this would have added to the weight and I didn’t need anything more than my drill 2AH. I hope that helps others who are trying to decided if they need a bigger battery.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI’ve been using a cheap “Gardenline” branded trimmer in my garden but having recently spent a fortune on DrWalt 18v tools, I thought it was the perfect excuse to upgrade. I’d been watching the price on CamelCamelCamel for a while and it hit my target so I pounced.

The difference in quality between the cheapo version I had and this DeWalt model is night and day. It cuts through pretty much anything I’ve thrown at it with ease. There is a maximum cutting width but I don’t think I’ve got anywhere near that as it’s far greater than I’ve needed to cut when doing the conifers.

With a 5ah battery on board, I was able to get through two lots of conifer bushes (5m x 2m) with ease, and was still showing three bars on the battery indicator. I’m not sure how long it would run for on a 5ah battery but much longer than the average garden would require on a single charge.

Very impressed – also registered with DeWalt for the 3 year warranty for free.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI am new to cordless trimmers and I was on the market for a decent one as, having moved to a house with a bigger garden, I now need to deal with some large hedges. I got this during a price drop and since I already own DeWalt XR batteries, it was a no brainer to get while offered at a great price. The unit is of standard DeWalt quality, feels very well built and it balances nicely with the 5 Ah battery. It also lasts surprisingly long with said battery, I can easily finish all the hedging in one go. Despite being heavier than some other models, I found it easy to operate from more awkward positions too. This trimmer is fairly powerful, chopping off 1/2 inch thick branches with ease so you have to be very careful where to point it. I like the safety measure of having two switches, requiring both of your hands to operate the unit. When the blades rub against each other they do make a louder than average sound so wear protection if this is a concern. Note that it’s important to keep the blades clean and lubricated after use but the impression is that these will last long. Will update this review over time if needed.

As opposed to other reviewers, I signed up for the extended warranty without issues.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersIt arrived today and looks a good tool – we’ll see. I’m a bit annoyed at the moment though because the enclosed documentation includes an offer for a three year guarantee but it’s impossible to register because the tool doesn’t have the date stamp or serial number required. The Dewalt UK website doesn’t give any means of contact, they will take a lot of personal information from you though. Trying to sort out the warranty took longer than cutting a large hedge. I think the warranty is 12 months – ignore the extended offer.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI still plan to get a 54v 9a to use on this and the blower that’s the next addition to cordless range but I have to say that running on an 18v 5AH I had no issues, done all my hedging on one battery, nicely balanced and simple to use, went though some reasonably thick branches too. Equally as tough as the wired Bosch unit I’ve used for years and cordless, no brainer. My inventory of dewalt cordless tools continues to grow. Will still get the 54v 9ah battery and charger when feeling flush. Great tools, absolutely zero regrets.

Works great . Petrol hedge strimmer getting too heavy for me and one with lead not suitable . This cuts well is light enough and I would recommend anyone buy it who is considering one . Battery life great with a 5ah battery that’s not included so be aware .

Bought this to replace my heavy petrol trimmer, this is the best and lightest I have ever had , very quiet and does all my large garden on 1 battery charge, I have now bought the Dewalt strummer also superb

Had this about a year now. Used to have a petrol trimmer. This is so much easier to use. Does not quite have the power as a petrol, but its starts first time every time, its light to use and has a run time of about 30 mins.

    Very impressed with this.
Far easier to use than have trailing leads.
Having numerous Dewalt cordless tools, it is easy to use the interchangeable batteries.
Due to the in-built safety features (appropriately so) this is quite difficult to use one-handed.

Easy to use and cuts through hedging I’ve never been able to cut before. Costs a little bit more than others, especially if you need a battery, but well worth every penny spent.

I’ve been retired many years, and this trimmer makes my gardening life a lot easier, especially as it is well balanced making the weight of the unit easy to manage.

Apart from looking good, as soon as I switched it on, I had confidence in my purchase.

Cuts through brambles like butter, nice and light to hold and lasts ages on a 5ah battery, especially compared to the line strimmer which seems to eat through them for not as much work. Best XR purchase yet.

i had let a big laurel hedge get very overgrown where it backs onto a field, this cut through quite thick branches with ease. made the job so much easier. Great with no cable to get in the way. runs for a good long time on my 4ah battery so didnt need to switch to another.. i already have 3 dewalt batteries , so the bare unit was good value for me.
    extremely impressed.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is an extremely nice hedge trimmer not particularly light weigh but very comfortable to use, it uses the same battery as is used for the dewalt strimmer which I also have and is also excellent to use, it’s a joy not to have to bother with mains cables – so makes jobs very much easer and quicker to do. You can tackle the same sort of hedge cutting as with a mains powered trimmer the dewalt seems just as powerful. It’s difficult to say how much hedge can be cut on one fully charged battery because that will depend on the size and type of hedge you may have but I think I could cut my 40 metre beech hedge which is 1.5 metres high on one full charge.Having a spare battery makes for much more convenience.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersTotally delighted with the item, arrived prompt and well packaged, and great price.
This trimmer is the best investment I have made, great lightweight, having no cables and operates well on fully charged battery lasting almost over 70minutes of continuos operation. Very easy to handle and operate, and cuts well giving good clean finish. Highly recommend this trimmer, worth every penny.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersA bit heavier than my B&D corded, weight balance is towards the tip as the blades are substantial.
Positive “click” from the handlebar is good & also a small switch on the trigger must be kept down as well to prevent safety stop, this turns out to be easier in practice than it sounds.
Trimming without a cord to swish about is wonderfully liberating.
Comes with a decent plastic blade cover.
My 2ah battery lasts about 10 -15 mins of actual cutting but is lighter to use than the 5ah this is usually sold with.
Only just up to the “Dewalt quality” build.
Makes as much noise as any other hedge trimmer.
Bought summer 2016 for 110 bare unit, fantastic value.

It is very, very convenient to use with no trailing cable. It allows me to shape and trim hedges with ease. It is well designed and well put together.
