This is, although described as a “scanner”, actually a 5/10 Mp camera. It takes photos of a slide using a lens and sensor, and records in JPEG format to an SD memory card. Good, well exposed slides with low contrast and in good condtition copy well. The JPEG is 1.2 to 1.8 Mb in size. You can copy a lot of slides into a 32 Gb SD card. Tweaking of exposure in the copier is minimal (compared to a photo flatbed scanner). It will copy a lot of slides very quickly. Copying takes about 2-3 seconds for each slide – compared to my own flatbed scanner which can take up to 5 mins to scan a slide. It lost stars for the following reasons. It defaults to scanning negative film each time it is turned off and on. You have to go into the menu and change the scan type to slide film each time. The menu is fiddly and not easy to follow. The instruction book is only marginally useful. The view screen is not very good. It allows you to identify the picture – but not to see it in detail. On the plus side it is a lot cheaper than a flatbed scanner (about 1/3 the cost); it is very fast, and will prodiuce acceptable results from well exposed slides.

Easy to use. Does the job. Bit fiddly using the ‘Mounting slider’. Unexpected bonus was that I could also look at and copy prints from all my old negs. Down side is the menu system and having to make a series of selections for 35mm slides at the start of each session.

I bought this scanner to save my old transparencies on to a SD card. It took me some time to work out how to change the default setting which is for negative film. The printed instructions are of little help. But having finally succeeded, I find the device works well. The carrier holds four slides, but is quite tricky to open.

Wanted an easy way to view some old negatives I found and this little device worked perfectly. Easy to use, quality of scanned negatives was really good considering how old they were, and price cheaper than others. Order received promptly. Very happy with purchase.

Only halfway through my collection of negatives and slides going back to the sixties and so far I cannot fault this slide scanner. I know there are more expensive ones on the market but this one is ideal for going through a large collection to pick out the best ones for further work on. A great buy.

I got this for my Niece to help her with her art study at school. What can I say the pictures that are transferred from the negatives are very clear and sharp and it is really easy to transfer to your computer to print out etc. I would like to point out you will need to order a SD card to use this.

I does the job reasonably well . The resulting digital images could be improved with a photo editor after copying . To get better results , I would probably have to have paid 200 .

Others have said this before me, but the user manual is lousy. However, the product is intuitive enough to use and it was quick and easy to hook up to a TV while reviewing some old slides.

My first impressions weren’t good; the scanner connects to the TV/PC via an AV lead and the output quality was poor. The slides (when previewed live on screen) looked washed out and the screen swam with faint static. So I wasn’t expecting great things from the scanned images that had been saved to the SD card. Happily, however, the scans themselves were infinitely better than the previews on screen. When I plugged the SD card directly into the TV (and later, via an adapter into my PC), the images were excellent.

The scanning process itself is very quick and simple, and it’s worth pointing out that you don’t have to plug the scanner into the TV at all. The preview window works fine for choosing and reviewing the images. The scans are saved to the SD card so all it really needs is the power supply.

All in all, then, if you want a device that allows you use the TV/PC connection to run a live slideshow for your family, this isn’t going to be your best choice; the preview quality really isn’t good enough. You’d need to adopt a 2-stage process: scan first, then show the scans on screen. Do that, and the quality is fine.

On the other hand, if you just want to scan old slides quickly and to a decent resolution (5MB is the default) then this will very happily do the job, and at a reasonable price.

Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the photos scanned.

Wanted to connect to an iMac but that didn’t work so used a memory card. (Make sure it’s a new memory card.)

If you are copying 35mm slides remember to set it up correctly so that it is not a negative image i.e. by selecting “Menu”, then “Capture”, them “Film Types”, then “Slides”.

Apart from that make sure there’s something interesting on TV ’cause it’s pretty time consuming if you have a lot of slides .

Golden Review Award: 49 From Our UsersI would highly recommend this product. I am confused by some of the previous reviews saying it was complicated, which nearly put me off buying it. So pleased I ignored them, it is in fact really simple and straightforward, could not be easier. Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersOrdered this with low expectations – the only reason I haven’t given it 5 stars is that I think it’s a bit over priced but it does exactly what I wanted, very easily. I wanted to copy a lot of very old 35mm slides which belonged to my father, most are over 50 years old. It is so simple to use, easy to select type of film and copy to sd card. You have to select the appropriate setting to be able to read from the scanner via USB – or just transfer the sd card. I haven’t opened the instructions, a few minutes playing with the settings gave me everything I needed, I would say most of the negative reviews were issues which could have been solved with a bit of perseverance! Sample image is from basic settings without any subsequent alteration or enhancement. I remember camping in that tent as a boy!

    It works!

Golden Review Award: 33 From Our UsersRead a lot of reviews on this before I bought but have to say it’s a great scanner for the money. Considering I was intending to scan some pretty old prints I appreciated the end results would rely just as much on the slide quality as the scanner. Out of the box it was well packaged and as I had read some negative reviewers about the instructions I decided to ignore them. To be fair the menu is self explanatory and I got it figured it out fairly quickly. Couple of points to help any new buyers. I found the standard settings created a image slightly too bright for my liking so I set the brightness to -1 which gave better results. Also I have some slides from the 1950’s to scan and these older thinker slides did not fit the holder very well. I got them scanned but would not want to do too many of them. Agree with other reviews that the slide and negative holders are a bit fiddly but soon got used to it. I’ve scanned in both 5M and 10m and have to say the scan is lightening fast so takes no time at all to get through a good number of slides. So for someone looking for an inexpensive scanner I’d certainly recommend this. All seems pretty robust and I’m hoping it lasts well under use.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI like many others of my generation , have boxes of slides sat about the house. nobody has looked at them for years,to much hassle, screen, projecter etc.I saw this for sale at a good price. I would make the following observations:
My slides are all 30/40 years old, taken with a cheap camera,& have a fair amount of wear &tear.
This Gaget is ideal for this situation.
It is compact, easy to setup, quick to use & the results ,when put thru a photoshop are pretty good
If you have slides more recent & taken with a high resolution camera you might want something a bit more sophisticated.

This should probably be classed as an ‘impulse purchase’ as I was slightly drunk on Christmas Day and got tempted by that one click ordering thing! However, my only comment is wow! It is brilliant for the price, it displays the image from negatives, B+W or colour and also from slides. It has holders for both which are easy to load. It scans in excellent quality high res in no time with one button push. I did about 40 packets of film and three boxes of slides in the first hour and a half.

Golden Review Award: 56 From Our Userslove this negative scanner. I have digitised around 200 35mm slides and 1,200 film negative pictures so far. Printed photos are very sharp and every bit as good as the originals with good colour balance.. Don’t forget to get an SD card. 16meg card will hold thousands of pictures.

The slide trays are a bit fiddly to use but you very quickly get into a rhythm loading the negative strips. Images can be edited and flipped using a number of photo utilities and the SD card will retain the edits.

Golden Review Award: 99 From Our UsersCompetitive pricing attracted my attention. Prompt arrival added to the sense of value. The product is compact and solidly made
with top surface controls and an adequate size viewing screen. The input slide/film holders are limited to the content they can
hold but are simply made of durable material. The accessories match what was expected for this economy purchase and my
use of SD cards in the past was a primary factor in choosing this product as I am able to transfer the SD card to another
portable device to view/delete before deciding to upload them to my laptop. My only reservation is the “User Manual” which
is not the most straightforward logical step by step instruction process, especially for this technophobe. But after fiddling
and deleting failures of copies of old colour slides (the reason for my purchase), I think I’m getting there…slowly!.

  61. Anonymous says:

I was convinced the unit did not achieve a 10MP scan. Upon questioning the supplier the reply was that it is a 5MP unit with10MP ‘interpolation’. This apparently is a frequently used method by manufacturers utilising algorithms to create the additional detail for the 10MP ‘scan’. The unit still provides serviceable pictures from my slides though not as detailed as I was expecting.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have a whole archive of 35mm slides from a local operatic society covering 60 years of shows and needed to digitalise for storing online. This unit was affordable and seemed to offer a good solution. It takes four slides at a time and comes with holders for film and slides. It doesn’t scan the slides, but instead takes a 5MP photo of each and then stores them on an SD card. Once you’ve finished with the slides, connect via USB to a PC and the images are transferred. The quality of the images is remarkably good and once on the PC they can be edited and cropped, if necessary. All in all I’m really pleased with this product. I’d recommend it to anyone with batches of 35mm slides they want to transfer into digital format.

Golden Review Award: 84 From Our UsersI found a bunch of 35mm slides i had forgotten about from 35 to 37 years ago and decided i wanted to make them digital. This little scanner did the job perfectly. As usual, didnt bother with instruction but sussed out how to operate within 5 mins of going thru menu. Had to select slides and 10m size as the default seems to be for scanning negatives. There are two plastic feeders, one for negatives and one for slides. Figured out which one to use for slides. Initially a little finicky to open and install 4 slides at a time, but quickly got into the way of things. After that its a breeze. I stuck an 8gb SD card in the back, sat down in my living room watching the telly and fed in slide after slide. I could have scanned direct to my computer via usb cable if i had wanted. Only takes about two seconds to scan each slide. After that loaded photos onto computer via an SD card usb adaptor and that was it. Picture quality was very impressive, if the orginal slide was good then so was the photo. Turns out i wasnt as good at photography back then as i thought i was, quite a few basic mistakes !! great little scanner and would highly recommend.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI bought this scanner as I have packets and packets of negatives that have become separated from the original photos. Lots of them were my Mum and Dad’s and I wanted to get rid of loads of old photos due to storage and needed a simple way of scanning them into my PC. I also wanted to view the negatives in to see if they were worth keeping. I’m not very ‘techy’ and didn’t want to spend a fortune and this little scanner does the job. It’s simple to use and the result is pretty good. I suppose it depends on the quality and age of the negatives but so far so good for the price. The only issue I have is the negative holder. One of the reviews I read said it wasn’t very good. It actually holds the negatives in place very firmly and clicks shut but trying to open it again seems to pull it apart and I have to keep putting it back together. It’s not really a major issue, just a bit irritating. Perhaps a better hinge system would do the trick. Other than that I’m happy with my purchase.

A simple and cheap way to capture your old slide and negatives. It basically takes a photo to and SD card. You can then import and play with the image with your own image manipulation software if you wish. Does the job well and they all seem well exposed by the machine. Tried BW and colour negatives and also colour slides of many different makes. They all worked fine. Can save as 5M or 10 M pixel and so files aren’t too large to be silly.

I must admit I chose this one as the price had been drastically reduced! I have a vast amount of old slides which I want to edit and scan onto my Mac for reference, so wonderful quality wasn’t my main aim – I just wanted a decently good image! I am therefore extremely pleased with the results I’ve had so far! As expected, the quality is not fantastic but, all in all, the colour is certainly not bad but I’m more than happy with this little product. I expect I would realistically have to pay 250 – 350 for a slide scanner which produces really wonderful images…..but I’ve seen reviews which dispute that as well!

I have just bought this scanner for the purpose of scanning slides taken mainly in the 1960/70’s . The unit was compact and reasonably priced and had the capacity to scan up to four slides at a time. I also bought a memory card to go with it . I have scanned about 80 slides so far, and found it fairly easy. I need to improve my assessment of the contrast level needed for slides when scanning them especially where there are strong contrast levels in the colours on the slides and expect this will be a case of practice. I would have liked the instruction manual to be a bit more detailed . Overall I think the scanner suits my needs well

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersI like this unit for the price, especially the ability to change the resolution and exposure level when scanning slides in order to compensate for errors when the slide was taken.
Manufacturer – get someone with a better knowledge of the unit and English language to re-write the User’s Manual

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersMy semi-professional and rather expensive scanner had given up the ghost for some reason and I needed to re-scan several very old 35mm negatives. I saw the Digitnow!5 listed in Amazon at a reasonable price and ordered one. It arrived very promptly and I put it into use. The quality of the scans I made faithfully captured the deficiencies of my ancient black and white negs. My only concern was the plastic negative holders. They don’t hold the negative firmly in place in the holder and when I withdrew after one scan I found the negative strip had become badly creased. This was my only criticism and I shall be more wary when scanning again. I intend to dig out the negative holder from my old ‘now deceased’ scanner and see if that will operate OK in the Digitnow!5.

Not had a chance to use it yet, seems adequate for my needs and was a good bargain.

Golden Review Award: 27 From Our UsersThis slider convertor is as expected. Bought it to my dad’s birthday and was worth it. He was very happy with it, we managed to save a few slides and they were looking very good. Normally slides are old (from 1960’s) so don’t expect very high quality on this (which I didn’t) and I had good results, even better than expected. So I was very happy with this purchase and with this product. I would recommend this product to anyone. Is not a professional machine but it is good to use at home.

Useful piece of kit , however the slide carriage is a bit slow and fiddly to use.

A bit of a fiddle until you get used to it, but it does the job to my satisfaction in conjunction with “Paint”

Very good results in converting some old slides that belonged to my wife’s mother. They were starting to deteriorate but hopefully they are now saved and future generations can see their ancestors. No the easiest of instructions with the scanner but enough to get going and then it’s quite easy to use

At long last I can view and save photographs from a huge pile of negatives taken when I was a child. Original photos just seemed to have got lost somewhere. Delighted with this little compact item. The supplier was very communicative and although the first one didn’t work they were quick to send a new one so I am pleased with them too.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery good value for money, a little awkward to use – at first, but once familiar then it can be very quick to use. I scanned some 500 slides in an evening. Cartridge is a little awkward but I wouldn’t be put off by it. Quality is determined by quality of the original film/slide but I thought it was adequate for most non-professional purposes. I wished to put slides onto a memory stick and it worked well for this. Essential to keep slides free of hairs and dust cause they don’t half show up.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI purchased this scanner based on earlier reviews.
The slide carrier is a little cumbersome to open and the instructions could be more explicit.
However, it appears to perform the function for which it is intended.and is priced sensibly.
I have scanned 16 slides and have just another 4000 to process!

Golden Review Award: 23 From Our Userscheaper than having my slides transfered transfered by companies – saved os much money and good quality too – instructions should make it clear you have to have the memory card in to work

Golden Review Award: 33 From Our UsersI bought this scanner as a present for my dad who has a lot of old (1960s) slides. Easy peasy to use. Load up the slide tray, four slides at a time, make sure you set the scanner to ‘slide’ and feed the tray through the side of the scanner, one slide at a time, pausing each time to push the scan button. This is the really good bit, only about 3 seconds to produce the image. The image is saved to an SD card (full size, not micro) which is not included but are cheap to buy from elsewhere, so no biggy! I used a 16gb card, which for a 5 mega pixel image size should hold a load. The quality of the images seem really good as well, but remember that any flaws, dust and the like will be reproduced in fine detail as well, so prepare accordingly. I can’t comment on the 35mm negative part of the scanner, only to say that another tray for this is provided and that I would expect similar quality results to be achieved. Overall, very pleased with the scanner, my dad’s a happy bunny and the seller delivered promptly. All’s good. Hope this helps.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI purchased this as a lightning deal and, because it came without the advertised SD card, received a partial refund from the seller. I found their after-sale support prompt and helpful. I have many negatives and slides which I wanted to digitize and this offered to do that. I found it to produce decent scanned images of 36mm slides and negs but I found the two cartridges for loading the films to be clunky and cumbersome. I have many non-standard 36mm negative film strips whose perforations do not match the template of the cartridges and, for these, I cobbled together something simple using cardboard strips which worked quite well and made me wonder why the manufacturers hadn’t done something similar. So, if you are wanting to scan standard negs and slides this produces very acceptable results. For anything not quite standard you’ll need to be creative.
One star deducted because of this limitation and because the cartridges are difficult to open, making bulk scanning a rather tedious process. I have not tried other similar scanners so cannot comment on how well this fares with the competition or at its price point.
