This by far is the best video capture card I’ve ever used. In fact I’m about to purchase another one.
It’s pretty good. I use OBS studio (free software to display it) with it to play my Xbox one on my laptop. Some of my friends were impressed
This device does what it does very well. I’m connecting an external video source with an HDMI connection to my PC, and the video appears as a virtual camera + an audio source. So I can watch and hear the video.
What the product description doesn’t make clear is that it doesn’t come with any recording software, this has to be purchased separately. The manual recommends a couple and I already had a different screen capture program that works perfectly with it, but the fact you can’t record ‘out-the-box’ may come as a nasty surprise – hence I dropped a star from the review.
1) Create a shortcut for the VLC media player.
2) Right click on the shortcut and select properties
3) Paste the following into shorcut==>target
“C:Program FilesVideoLANVLCvlc.exe” dshow:// :dshow-vdev=”UHD Capture” :dshow-adev=”Digital Audio Interface (4- UHD Capture)” :dshow-aspect-ratio=”16:9″
4) Change the vlc.exe target folder location if necesary
This is the best player option for the NVIDIA Shield TV I have found.
It works as expected. I need more of this at my video/sound recording studio. Hope they reduce the price.
It took a little bit of setup, but I got this working to capture the outbound PowerPoint from another PC via HDMI cable.
I used the HDMI to USB capture device with OBS software. It took a little fiddling to get all the adjustments right. And turning off all audio inputs except the UHD channel really helped!
Worked with GoPro Hero 7, Nikon DSLR, Sony Handycam on Windows 10 and Ubuntu Linux. Makes my camera image on Zoom, Skype, and Google video conferences much better than the build in laptop webcam.
Replaced the inferior Qgeem with this. Much better. I also have a Magewell and it seems similar. No vertical lines like Qgeem.
I am using this with a Sony RX100 and a Sony A7R ii cameras. And it feeds into Zoom as well as Microsoft Teams video conferences. Works perfectly. No set up or software installation. Just plug everything in and start using.
The overall package of the DigitNow capture card is good. It comes with a decent user-manual, a USB 3.0 cable and an HDMI cable.
Camera performance seems good and it’s easy to use as no software is necessary, but there are a few negatives.
Pros
———
* Easy to use
* Comes with all necessary cables
* Camera performance through the card is good
Cons
——-
* Audio sometimes skips
* Despite being marketed as a game capture device, the lack of an HDMI Out port makes it impractical for game streaming
* Game recording footage looked poor
The capture card definitely has it’s faults.
You will be frustrated with it if you try and use this to record games, but if you’re just looking for a way to change a camera you own into a webcam, you will be happy with what it can do.
Kevi
My zoom calls are now epic because I can plug my high end camera output into my computer and have it recognise it as a webcam.
It’s also good for streaming PS4 as well.
The only thing it is lacking that some other cards have in this price category is an HDMI passthrough but I have managed fine without it.
It’s solidly built, compact and does the job it is supposed to do
It is even great with recording tv like a dvr if you have the right software but you will notice a slite loss of quality which is no big deal to me.
Turned a Sony A6400 DSLR into a video camera for video conference calls while working from home as part of shelter in place because of COVID. This unit was $200, and 33% cheaper than Magewell’s product, which from images the product looks identical; I suspect Magewell is only rebranding this non-branded component and charging a premium. Same product is available direct from China via other resellers for $60, however delivery time is much longer.
Plugged in, to the camera’s HDMI out port (needs a different HDMI cable than supplied in the box), USB into a Windows 10 Laptop, and it just worked. Some reviews report the HDMI input to USB output UVC device gets hot, but from my 1st day of usage it’s only warm to the touch. That is expected as the electronics dissipate heat via the metal casing.
Great solution to re-use high quality lenses on a DSLR for video conferences through a laptop or computer.
Got the card the other day. I was worried because I was not sure if it would work with my camera. It works great. It worked with ZOOM, Skype and Ecamm. I was using my cell phone as a web cam through NDI and there is a clear difference in image quality. I have not tried any other video capture cards but I am happy with the purchase. Gave it a 4 because I am not sure about longevity, I will update in the future.
You have to use a streaming program like OBS (free) to deliver your stream from the input (we were using a camcorder) to Zoom. The device hooked up with my Windows 10 laptop after some video and audio input manipulation, but not my Windows 7 laptop.
If you want to get this on Zoom, it will take some savvy on your part. But it will work if you can figure it out! Good luck.
I loved this device. I’ve used it for live events, and for converting my personal camera to a last minute webcam! It works flawlessly with the Panasonic GH5… for some reasons it is having problems with my Panasonic G7 and will not work.
I was surprised at the ease with which this installed and the picture quality is amazing. I use it to capture video direct from a DSLR camera and found it much easier and consistently connected the the Blackmagic design ultra mini recorder- o dis find the price a little high compared to what is was elsewhere in Amazon but I needed it immediately so was happy to pay the premium
The only reason why this doesn’t get 5 stars is because it has a tiny bit of delay. Not a lot… But i plan on using it for a hyperion setup so it could effect that. Only time will tell. Otherwise picture quality is great! And the delay is only a few milliseconds so it’s not like it’s that noticeable.
The – USB Capture HDMI Video Card – works well. 100% happy with this product.
This capture card has great image quality I have played at 60fps with no lag at all. Build quality of the product is really good. In terms of connection you need to buy a HDMI splitter cable because the console only has a one way system. You have the HDMI in which gives the signal from the device connected into the xbox and it has a HDMI out which has only one port and that gives signal from the xbox to the capture card and from the capture card to your PC.
If you would like to see test footage of it checkout my youtube CL4PZ_Dr3ddd _
If you are after 4k quality this is obviously not for you. However I was simply after something that would allow me to record my favourite programs from my satellite box to my tv so that I could share the file around my house. This device was the perfect option.
Its so compact and light your be very surprised that it is able to record the quality that it does. It allows videos to come out with a great amount of crispness and contrast. Like I said its no where near 4k but where hd stands its up there. It is pretty much a device that is ready out of the box. All you need to do is connect in via usb to your pc or Mac and then connect to any device that can output at 4k!
I am on Mac and I found that the best software to use was quick time. All you simply need to do is record a movie and choose the capture card….record what you want and save the file, it is as easy as that.
I love this little piece of tech and cant fault it. I did attach a video to help you with making up your mind. Hope it helps.
I was in the market for a no Frills capture card, and this is definitely it! As best I can tell, the input is seen as a webcam by your PC, and thus it’s quite platform agnostic – I was able to get it working on Pop!OS, as well as Windows 7/8.1/10. I tested it only with OBS, so if you use a different capture program, ymmv.
I plug this into the hdmi out of a laptop and then used OBS on another laptop to stream. It helps me reduce the demand on the laptop I am using. It works great!
Great switcher and did the trick for my multi cam livestream with OBS
A very good product, I don’t like that it overheats a lot.
Product arrived new in box and with no signs of prior use or sketchy packaging, so good start.
If you need a consumer level camera or camcorder with HDMI out to plug straight in to your computer via USB and just work, this unit is most probably going to work. If you have a Canon 5D MK IV, it won’t work but I don’t know why. The camera outputs HDMI at 1080p and 59.94fps, but there may be a specification in the HDMI data that isn’t recognized by this device. The good news is you don’t need any hardware for that camera to do the job, you can use free software on a Mac via native USB right out of the camera. I just wish there was a list of supported devices for this unit, or even unsupported devices to clarify its utility.
I did have an old “backup test” HD camcorder, a Canon VIXIA HF R10, and that actually works perfectly with this capture dongle, PnP like they say. Same cables, HDMI out of the Canon 5D MK IV, never worked no matter what software and settings I tried. I never did find out why the HDMI signal from the Canon 5D did not work with this device, and even went back and forth with support via email for the three days after receiving this unit, but it didn’t matter in the end. All this contemplation and testing led me to search for a software only solution, and sure enough there is a way to download two existing applications to use the Canon 5D MK IV with no external hardware and have it come up as a webcam flawlessly in OBS, Skype, QTPlayer, and others.
Since I was able to have two cameras now plugged into a laptop, one with this capture dongle and one with only software, I decided this is a great, reliable, and cheap solution to the problem, without having to buy two of these units or one of them plus a more expensive similar unit. It didn’t work as I originally had hoped or intended, but worked out for me anyway.
I used this for a 2 camera streaming job at my church. We needed a fast setup working in 3 days. These worked just as well as an expensive encoder for streaming. I used OBS studio and streamed to YouTube. My only concern is that they are very demanding on your USB bus. Make sure you have enough power or you have both USB2.0 and USB3.0 ports and if you do put 1 in the 2.0 and 1 in the 3.0 so you split the bus. Probably not possible on any regular laptop so I would stick to desktops with good power. I ran the stream in 1080p at 30fps. It came out flawless thanks to YouTube. These aren’t for the professional but they work in a pinch.
Very easy to use. Took me 60 seconds to unbox, plugged it into my computer, hooked up the camera, and boom! Worked like a charm.
After returning the first hdmi capture card I received my replacement card and I am happy to say this one works
as it should so I have changed my overall rating to four stars. sometimes things happen but as long as in the end it can be fixed I think that’s what really matters. and yes I will still continue to buy from this vender.
here are no conplicaciones for the connection, it is fas
I had a chance to test this against a friend’s Magewell brand device. This is half the price so it’s good value for the money but you can definitely tell a difference in video quality. I made no changes to the camera nor the computer between the two captures. (The camera used a Sony RX100, if you’re curious)
I’m using it with my iMac late 2015 retina 64GB ram and SSD and it worked perfectly right out of the box; plug and play. I’m using my Canon R800 as a webcam and to record directly into Quicktime at high resolution. Very little lag; almost none. Very happy with my purchase and I may get another to see if I can have two video inputs simultaneously.
Great! Exactly what I needed to make instructional videos/screen shots off my video codecs.
I wanted to use my Sony a5000 camera as my webcam for streaming on Twitch. The Elgato version of this product was sold out and I didn’t want to wait. This does exactly what I want it to, captures the HDMI feed from my camera so I have an amazing quality webcam for my stream. I use OBS, this product works with it. Twitch: zzthejimzz
his version is smaller than previous similar product I have, good quality, worked as advertised
This is a great and easy to use product. I am not tech savvy but anyone can use this product.
Bought for my church’s livestream setup. Literally could not get any easier. I plugged the HDMI Live from the camcorder into the device, and the USB to the computer, and computer recognizes a new camera source. Easy as pie.
Had no problems setting up on a Mac. I use it to record church services on OBS. I ran stereo sound through an audio inserter with no problems.
Converted my Canon HF R800 into a web camera for live streaming. Picture was great, installation was easy (documentation has default settings you need to change). Streamed for about 10 hours on the first try with no issues at all. This was everything I needed at 1/3 of the cost of Magewell.
Great Service Used for capturing video from PTZ camera in OBS
Couldn’t be simpler. High def cable to TV/DVR and usb to laptop. Video capture software recognized the signal. Picture quality could be a little better but don’t know if other devices would be.
I like the ease of use with this product. I will use to livestream our church services.
It is very simple to connect and works flawlessly every time.
Using a Nintendo switch, the quality of the picture was sub-par. The colors were off and the picture quality was not 1080p. There was pixelated imagery even though the settings on the Switch was set to 1080p.
Worked fine for taking output from camcorder and saving it to my computer. Bit pricy for what it is
This is a solid device for people who use a Mac to capture/stream. I use this in combination with a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini-Recorder to create a two-camera streaming setup. Almost went for the Magewell device due to all of the good reviews, but this device is less than half of the price, and worked perfectly for a 3 hour live stream that I did over the weekend. There were a couple of signal drop-outs, but I am not sure if this was due to this device, or the HDMI extender that i used – it is too early to tell. For now, I am very satisfied with the performance. Low cost makes this a low risk option. I highly recommend.
Works better than I expected. Was a little leery when I first looked at it, but all of the positive reviews made me give it a try. I broadcast high school sports in YouTube Live and this device helped me give one of the best video quality broadcasts I’ve had in 8 years. I love that it’s small so it didn’t take up a lot of space. Did get a little warm during my testing so I through on 3 heat sinks and that helped tremendously. I highly recommend
Worked perfectly with both my sony and canon camcorders. The image clarity is now remarkable. Inhave the full power of an hd camcorder as a webcam. Even the best webcams are no comparison.
This did exactly what I needed it to. I looked for this for two months and now I couldn’t be happier. Thank you
Works perfectly out of the box with Mac as a video capture device with no additional setup required. Plug and play. Great for live stream, very compact and self powered.
Works great for recording. There is a little delay so it won’t work as well for live but still grea
Expensive or what? More than my video camera but it does the trick of turning Full HD HDMI signals into 1080p USB3.0 webcam signals that can then be used with, say, OBS.
No frames are lost and it handles audio too but I use a separate USB mic so that aspect is not important to me.
It just works – plain and simple. Plug it straight in to your PC and it’s recognised. We use it for Skype calls and it’s rare to find something video-related that does the job without any interference, driver loading, updates etc. For what it is, it’s pricey but it’s a solidly built unit and the time saved compared to other solutions we’ve tried has more than repaid the cost.
Probably the best gadget I bought this year!
If your an AV engineer or do lots of demos that require a monitor! Look no further! This is a must have!!
