What is a Powered-Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR)?
Usual respiratory protection masks always struggle with the same problem: the breathing resistance gets higher as soon as the protection level increases. PAPRs like the Dräger X-plore 8500 do not know this problem: they supply the user with a steady flow of fresh filtered air, which in return leads to the fact that the user can easily work several hours without getting tired.

Dräger’s high-quality powered-air purifying respirator. Highly robust and made for tough conditions. The air flow can be adjusted thanks to a panel at the top part of the blower unit (max. 210 l/ min), acoustic signals inform the user about problems and risks.
Filters for this product are sold seperately.

Filter exchangeAs pointed out before, the filters are being sold seperately. If hermetically sealed, the PAPR filters can easily be used again, even several times. The blower unit is able to indicate the filter saturation of particle filters, which means the user always knows when a particle filter needs to be exchanged. Gas filters should be replaced as soon as the user has an unpleasant taste in his/ her mouth. This is the only respirator that I have used that works with a full beard.
I’m not sure about how long the hood will last, it is seems like tyvek suit material.
Really good quality and well made. Most of the parts say made in Germany (even the battery is).
Provides really good air purification and makes it more convenient than wearing a half mask respirator.
Took maybe 10 minutes to set up. Flawless design. Contained everything needed. Beautifully done.
For what it is the unit is lightweight and has an excellent battery life. The concept of a PAPR or Powered Air Purifying Respirator is that you do not have to inhale with as much force it is just like wearing nothing at all. The one key thing is with the proper filters care and maintenance this WILL protect you from a whole host of pathogens as these units were designed for such work.
As a former firefighter and HazMat worker this provides protection just short of a SCBA with a much longer working time when you are not dealing with a IDLH (toxic, oxygen deficient) atmosphere.
It is my hope that we can put all the COVID restrictions behind us much sooner than later. The toll beyond just the lives lost directly to COVID will most likely pale in comparison to the lives lost due to suicide, alcoholism, drug use, psychiatric issues, and other medical conditions ignored as there are some groups that are even afraid to seek medical care for the many other life threatening ailments that many already suffer from.

Best thing we purchased this year. Works in many job situations. When using epoxy you can’t even smell the chemicals.

Wearing a normal ventilator mask, I would feel very our of breath and find myself gasping for air about 20-30 minutes after having it on.
But this respirator works like a dream, it’s so so comfortable, and I can relax and really get into my artwork and breathe easily.
It’s easy to assemble. It’s portable. The battery life lasts abour 15-16 hours and is rechargeable.
The ONLY thing I would say is that the belt for wearing it is not big enough and I need a belt extention and don’t know how to get one.
I also would like the hose to be a little longer.
