I bought a Bush suitcase turntable second hand for 20 and decided speakers were needed. These give great sound even with that very basic turntable. Now I’ve bought a Lenco L-85 turntable and the resulting sound is fantastic. My 1965 Beatles LP has never sounded so good!
I was using some studio monitors with my Vox keyboard and they were just a little too large for nearfield listening. Got these as they were inexpensive and worth a try. Very happy with the result. Just right. I expect these would be good for listening to music from an MP3 player or computer, as well. Build quality is good and they are quite attractive with their yellow drivers.
Good quality speakers with good sound quality.
Only downside is that there isn’t a volume control easily accessible at the front, so requires some wrist manipulation to get to the control at the back
Bought it to connect to my record player as i have started collecting vinyl again and the sound is better than I thought it would be but great pair of speakers for the price I paid
I was really suprised at the sound quality from these at this price point. They can handle deep bass music without distortion and the output seems much more than the low wattage they have and can fill a small room with ease.
Can’t compain at all for the money.
This product is good value for money. Easy set up, sound is good, look more expensive than they cost. My only slight issue is that I wish the lowest volume could decrease slightly more, but this may not bother others and isn’t a big deal.
Great sound, nice bass, connected to TV via audio jack, supplied. Good buy
Ok, what is there to say about these speakers?
Firstly, two things you need to know. One, these are the second pair of Edifiers I have bought – the others are the more expensive 1850s (and they are shockingly good for the buck too).
Second, musical tastes, mine is classical with the very occasional old rock from my youth and a bit of Eno. If you like the sort of drum-machine noises you hear emanating from passing idiot-waggons then perhaps discount this review – assuming naively on my behalf that you can actually read it in the first place.
Oh, a third thing (!) – they only cost 60 quid – we are not exactly in the audiophile price bracket. Oh, and another thing, I used to sell a lot of high-end hifi gear years back, you know proper demonstration sound room market. So I have heard a lot of speakers attached to a lot of high-end amps and sources, albeit over 30 yrs back.
For me the main immediate interest is how they compare to their bigger brothers. Out of the box they are lighter, but still have some heft, and appear as well made. The finish is first class, and you get ALL the cables you need – 3.5 to phono and phone to phono (this is a slight bugger as I bought a set!). Active speaker is right, helpful as the pc is to the left in this case (!) anyway connection is a simplicity, and then the moment of truth.
Bach’s Cello concertos (flac file playing through media player through a simple cheap card) – well it is remarkable – truly. The ability of these small and cheap speakers to reproduce both the warmth and detail of this instrument is startling. I have to play them through again. The sound can easily fill a small room without distortion – but you are not going to set off earth-quakes, or preform outdoor concerts, or fill an auditorium , if this is important to you. Got a modest house and they’ll do fine.
A bit of Eno – less complex sounds obviously – easier to get right and they do – bit of Dire Straits (I hear some of you groan – your loss) – some older Floyd – ok they do lack bass OBVIOUSLY – but they manage it WELL – don’t distort – the electronics are well balanced to the acoustic potential of the drivers and cabinet – this is good design – they haven’t simply been cobbled out of bits – back to Bach for another go – marvellous – yes this is a good recording – but heck.
Summary: If you want nice music from a pc these are a damned fine choice – I cannot imagine you will be disappointed. If you want to play games and pretend somewhere in your head you are saving Earth, America, Freedom or whatever (certainly not a girlfriend) from zombies, or nasty people, or whatever, I won’t pass any comment except these might not be for you – I imagine you’ll need something that is both louder and noisier.
But if you want some real music, and got 60 quid, buy them, they are going to knock spots off the plastic carp from computer peripheral manufacturers. If you’ve got more get the 1850s.
Enjoy.
Very well packaged and protected without being OTT.
The speakers were easy to set up with clear instructions.
Sound quality is great, from low to high volume.
Bass, midrange and high notes produced very well with no distortion.
Set up on my desk, the sound space is ideal.
BOOKSHELF SPEAKER WITH LP DECK NGEL HORN MAKE GREAT SET UP FOR UNDER 200 -UNBELIEVABLE SOUND
These speakers are just amazing! Considering their price range as well, I’m just blown away. I would really recommend these for anyone on a budget.
Im suprised what this 2 small speakers can do! Sound is clear and sharp. Im loving it!
I’ve had these speakers a few months now and so far so good. They look really stylish, are easy enough to set up, and give an impressive level of sound for their size without any distortion. I bought them for a PC workstation setup, and even though they are perhaps a little overkill for that purpose, I can’t fault them at all.
The feet will sit comfortably on a 170mm deep shelf, but be aware they will also need about 30mm’s room at the back for the RCA plugs – worth bearing in mind if you plan to place them on a wall shelf. I bought a couple of right angle RCA converters to resolve that problem as space between my workstation and wall was limited.
I prefer these speakers over the stereo + subwoofer setup I used previously, as they look better (especially with the speaker guards removed), give punchier sound, and there are fewer trailing cables. I do miss having a volume switch on the front or side of one of the speakers rather than at the back, but that’s not much of an issue since I’ve gotten used to using the PC’s volume adjust on the task bar instead.
In all, for their size and quality these are worth every penny, and I can recommend.
Good sound for little money. The sound is nice and clean. It was difficult for me to choose household speakers, since I myself work in a studio on Adams A7X and even a small hint of bad sound annoys me. These speakers turned out to be quite good. As for the bass control, the best result in sound is its complete down. So the regulator itself raises a rather unpleasant resonant frequency, which is difficult to call bass. The product is definitely worth its money and will delight even an inexperienced listener.
After much deliberation I bought these! Usually I keep away from cheap Chinese stuff, but for once it has surpassed my expectations. For the price these are great pair of speakers. Not for audiophile, but they do pack a punch. My old vinyls suddenly seem to have come alive and I can start hearing things I was missing before. Buy them if you want to listen to your LPs and own a budget turntable (as I do). If you have high end turntables, you’re better off looking elsewhere (like KEF or Ruark audio).
Bought for a friend who wanted to use them on a laptop. Delighted with sound. Look good and feel substantial. Easy to set up and sensible desig
Un ottimo prodotto , lo utilizzo principalmente al pc per la visione di film e videogame e per l’ascolto di musica.
Manca la quinta stella solo perch viene venduto in italia con presa inglese , sarebbe gradito un adattatore in confezione almeno.
I bought these so that I could listen to BBC Sounds while working on my PC but they are so good I’m currently listening to Bruch’s violin concerto #1 on CD while typing. Despite a less than optimum listening position (too close really), the sound is very impressive, clean and involving. The bass is adequate (set to the middle position – becomes muddy if turned further). Step back a few feet and they are really good. Connecting to the PC was simple using the supplied cable. Excellent value for money.
I decided to buy these monitors and take a chance on them loosely based on the existing reviews. I needed a pair to replace my worn out Samson Resolv 40a’s.
When they rocked up, I was really very pleasantly surprised with their performance.
They’re really easy to set up with just one cable to push into speaker terminals on both speakers and plugging in the mains plug.
I use the Bluetooth connection which is very stable and reliable. No fish tank noises or cutting out as long as you’re within 10 metres of the transmitting device.
The audio quality is superb for the price. Crisp and balanced sound reproduction with no perceptible distortion until you max the volume control. The bass response is crisp and capable with the ability to clearly reproduce very low frequencies without making the speakers “fart”.
If you’re a musician working in your bedroom and on a tight budget, then these are ideal for your purposes. If you’re an average bod who just likes crystal clear music then these are good for you too.
I will be buying another couple of pairs when my budget allows for it!
Brilliant little set of speakers. I bought them for my husband for his vinyl player, I was worried that they wouldn’t be suitable but they are and the sound is amazing.
Throughly recommend them
For use in a small office the sound quality is sublime. Delicate yet strong sound with enough mid and bass to cope with most audio needs. Great value and robust design. Very stylish with or without the covers on.
I needed a descent speaker system to run my music library from my laptop. These are exactly like old school bookshelf speakers that plug right into the headphone jack. You can adjust the speaker volume and bass from the back. You can also use them with a turntable without buying an amp. Convenient to use and an overall sound that satisfies my picky ear.
Excellent little speakers.
Bought to enhance the sound of a retro looking record ,cassette,cd player.
Great sound and they look good too!
first order was out of stock, second order was delivered a head of suggested date
The way these speakers have change the audio in my setup is amazing. Connected to my MacBook laptop and used while I edit for my radio show as well as video editing for my YouTube channel. Would definitely recommend these to anyone.
hese wee speakers are small but loud good sound comes out of them …just the job for a small room
These speakers are ok I’m happy with them the price is great they sound good I didn’t want massive speakers because I live in a flat I don’t want the neighbors moaning about noise so there a perfect size but I bought them because I bought a record player and I needed speaker plus an amplifier and these have a built in amplifier so that’s great but I have to control the volume from the actual speakers and it’s a bit annoying because all the controls are at the back of the speaker wouldn’t it make more sense to have the volume button at the side or even the front so it’s easy to get to but apart from that I’m well happy with them it reminds me of when I was a young teenager and I’d be trying to get the wire into the back of my speakers and then playing around with it till I got a good sound so spot on happy with purchase
So I have given these speakers 5 stars not because they are perfect all round but because for the use I am putting them to they are just perfect.
I need to listen to deep ambient music at night to help me sleep and this needs good tone and base at low volumes and needs to be felt rather than heard and these speakers fit that need beautifully.
Great value for money! Bought these as a present for my partner to go with a new turn table and he really likes them, great sound quality and adjustable bass is a good feature! Easy to put together, 10/10 recommend
Great for what I need them for with a bit of OOMPH when needed.
Really crisp and clear sound and easy to connect to any system would highly recommend and they look good too
If you’re looking for the pinnacle in sound reproduction then look elsewhere. If you want decent quality monitors for a home studio set up then these are great for the money. Way better than they should be in fact. Seem sturdy, come with cables and so far really impressed.
I adore these. I bought them to go along with my nice but simple ‘briefcase’ style record player. They’re very compact and attractive and output very nice sound for the size.
The fact that they’re active at this price range was a big selling point for me, especially from such a well known brand.
I would highly recommend these to any record collector who wants to build a modest setup!
I use these speakers in my study to listen to the radio and to play a keyboard. Very satisfied with them for this purpose.
Compact speakers – neat and tidy looking -with a really full sound. Perfect for me.
Thank goodness the speakers weren’t damaged – because they are great! If you are after really good active bookshelf speakers for your PC these really are good – good clear sound and bass, and great value too. Just shame they look like they have thrown around like someone has played hacky sack with them! Great customer service, they phone me the very next day to ensured me the packaging left their warehouse in perfect condition (which I believe).
I’m really pleased with these speakers. Since my music system died I’ve had real difficulty in getting a good sound from my digital files. Now I can enjoy mucic again with depth and layers, and a decent bass!
These are great value active speakers that offer great sound quality- I dunno why some reviews say they don’t have enough bass as mine offer plenty of low-end grunt (the gorgeous gold yellow bass drivers *demand* that you run them with the grills removed!)
My only slight criticism is that the supplied speaker cable connecting the r.h.s. amplified speaker to the passive left speaker, is ludicrously short – you’ll need to budget for longer aftermarket speaker cable, unless you live in a rabbit hutch! LOL
I would have no hesitation in buying them agai
Had a deck with built in speaker which was very tinny . Hooked up this speaker system too the output and now have a great sound .
Excellent sound. Been using them for my ION Vinyl player. However, my only issue is that the volume dial on the back doesn’t go quieter then ‘3’ . I’ll Explain, The dial of volume is say 1 to 10. I’m not sure if it’s just a fault on my end but the sound only starts coming through at 3 so it’s almost like you have it either on or off. I find the sound has some great bass too so starting from 3 already sounded like it was making the table hum that it’s placed on.
So if you’re someone like me who lives in a flat with somebody upstairs it maybe quiet from 3, but might not be quite enough, even with the bass turned to zero.
Simple to use, great sound, adaptable and solid. Love it!
I bought these speakers for my daughter for Christmas to go with her new record player and she loves them to bits! They’re not too big, look good, and the sound quality is amazing, so she’s a very happy bunny!
Absolutely brilliant sound for the price! Definitely recommend for setting up with a turntable.
I am very pleased with this product. Connected to my record player and the sound is great.
These speakers are really good value for the money they have a brilliant sound and great for my record player i would definitely recomend them
I have attached these to my PC and the sound quality is great.
The two speakers connect via a standard hi fi cable that plugs into each speaker, so it can be replaced if necessary. The main speaker has two inputs, so I can attach my PC and my TV at the same time.
Good enough for music on Youtube, great for gaming. had to turn the bass down fairly low. Pay 60 for these and be happy enough, pay 30 for something cheaper and get dodgy cables and interference or use in-monitor speakers and forget what bass sounds like.
Giving this four stars, with a few caveats.
If your looking for a decent pair of small speakers to hook up to a PC, small television or your smartphone, then these are a good option.
However, If you’re looking for a pair of studio monitors that won’t break the bank, for music production or DJing, then you should avoid these.
These speakers perform well with mid and high frequency ranges, but the bass reproduction is unfortunately poor.
They were just what was needed. Crisp, clear, adjustable bass, they sound great, feel and look ok quality and for the money they are great. Love them.
Wasn’t sure what to expect as never come across this brand before. Pleasantly surprised at the quality for this price. Son has them hooked up to his laptop and mixer and he is pleased with them.
What these little guys lack in bass, they certainly make up for in sound quality. I mean, we’re talking 60 here. You’d struggle to find a decent pair of speakers second hand for that. No need for an amp as they are powered speakers – I’ve got them directly plugged into my laptop. Don’t expect to be hosting any raves, these speakers are not for that. If you enjoy music and want to invest in something affordable that won’t break the bank, these boys are for you. I doubt you’ll be disappointed. I’ve made 2 other people buy them and just like me, they absolutely adore them.
Edit: I would imagine these would work pretty well hooked up to a turntable, but unfortunately I haven’t had the chance to jump on that train as of yet.
I use the speakers in conjunction with a mixer for the connection of 3 of my radio’s (Ham) plus connection to my Pc for U tube videos and music playback, gives me total control of sound control and quality at a touch… Perfect buy..
Was really pleasantly surprised by the sound quality out of these. I have the echo dot plugged into these for spotify and the sound is really good. Crisp and good bass for family listening.
Altavoces geniales.
Nice wooden speakers …bought these to increase volumn on my turntable. Thes will be just the job.
Needed a pair of active speakers to pair with an audio technica lp60x – these sound completely awesome with the player.
Apprehensive at first and around 3 months in I’ve got absolutely no complaints.
Hooked these up to my record player and the sound from them is great. Only problem is that the volume only works from part way up the scale which means I can’t really listen to the music quietly
Bought them for my son and he loves the sound clarity and volume he gets from them.
Was looking for a pair for bookshelf speakers to play my record player from. And these do the job perfectly. Small compact stylish with great sound and bass.
I mean you get what you pay for, sound quality is good but not amazing but for the price you pay for it’s good enough I suppose. In terms of looks and build wise it’s good enough too.
Bought these to causally listen to music and play games on my pc.
For the price they go, they are good enough quality at close range, easy to set up, well built.
They could be more clear on the voices and highs, but that can be fixed with an equalizer installed on your pc.
Well done.
Exactly what I needed. Great size. Sounds good. Delivered on time.
A great pair of budget monitors.
I used to mix with the Audio Technica M40x (which I still have), but now, I use these speakers for the job. The clarity is great and so is the overall sound quality. If you’re starting out in music production, these will help you until you feel you need to upgrade to better gear.
Brilliant speakers. I wanted a cheap pair of speakers to use as monitors whilst recording and rough mixing rather than using my headphones all the time. These speakers do the job just fine.
Bought a pair of these to use with my Sonos ZP90 in the study. They are well built and arrived quickly , sound great very happy with them and the service.
Acceptable but not awesome.
Better sound accuracy is desired.
Next time will look for Creative.
Now that’s it.
I previously used a Bluetooth sound bar with my computer but these are better; brighter, easier to control with separate bass and volume controls. They are quite stylish and are great, considering their price; I finally have good enough speakers to mix and master my recordings and for general music listening.
Brilliant! Bought for my vinyl player which had a pre amp so just needed simple speakers that took up little room and they do fantastically. Highly recommended!
Build quality: Excellent
Sound Quality: Purchased to use with desktop PC, so my review will be based on use with PC
– Controls being located at the back is not a problem because I can control the volume up/down/mute from my Keyboard which is more convenient than trying to reach out for knobs. Power is set ON permanently.
– 12 Watts per channel is more than enough as I listen sitting just 1 metre away from them.
– Initially, listening to HD YouTube music videos, high frequencies sounded shrill and brash. After a week of burning in period the sound has now become smooth with decent detail.
– Experiment with different sound environments. I found best sound quality to be with “Live Music” option.
– Don’t expect deep bass. Laws of Physics prohibit deep bass from small speakers as such. It’s powerful and good enough to satisfy everybody.
– If you cannot afford more expensive Edifier or any other speakers, you will not regret buying this one and you won’t be missing much except for more power.
Conclusion: Edifier R1000T4 is excellent speaker with smooth and powerful sound quality in its price range. My money happily and well spent.
Strongly and wholeheartedly recommended.
