Perhaps surprisingly, this tape does actually seem to work. My wife has put some around her dahlias and sweet peas and has had no problems with slugs or any other pests. The only downside is that she gave herself a paper cut trying to get the backing off the tape in the first place.
Easy to use & keeps slugs and snails away, highly recommend
I honestly bought this on a whim because I was so annoyed at the slugs taking out our flowers that we managed to grow from seeds every year! I was very skeptical about it but at the same time I was desperate for any solution that didn’t harm anything. Months after using this tape round our pots our flowers are uneaten! The tape has stayed on during rain and hailstorms, who knows if it will stay on over winter but this is working out very well so far and I hope it doesn’t change.
3 weeks in and not a single slug or snail on my lupins. I have wrapped the tape around the rim of a large plant pot – the width of the wrapped area is about 5 inches. Has worked very well so far and the tape looks nice on a terracotta pot!
Easy to use copper adhesive tape to stop slugs and snails getting to your plants or vegetables
Not at all easy to fit, wrinkles, and you need to get down very low to fit it, unless, of course the pot is so small that you can lift it onto a table.
Waiting to see if it works on my Hosta pots.
great item but in the rain it has come away in some parts and l am finding slugs and snails in my vege pots
It does keep the snails and slugs out, but only if two or three strips of copper tape are applyed to the edge of the planter thus creating a 50mm/75mm barrier.
Easy to apply, though best to cut the needed length first.
Has good lasting adhesion.
A 50mm copper barrier still working after five years!
Applying a 75mm copper barrier to a much larger planter now.
Ease of using this tape. A better way to determine slugs from your plants.
I ordered this for use in my greenhouse as I was plagued last year with slugs munching my seedlings.
I decided to stick it round the edges of my plastic pots and trays. It isn’t the stickiest tape and I did struggle at times to get it to adhere properly.
However, once I’d managed, I haven’t actually had any problems with slugs being a pest and all of my seedlings are looking healthy this year so I believe it’s actually worked!
I’d definitely buy it.
A good old friend alerted me to this potential ‘deterrent’ some years back.
The copper foil tape I have used in the past is narrower so I have needed to double up to get a width I hope(d) would stop my slithery friends from getting to my new shoots.
This one is 3 cm wide. The roll claims to be 20m long, but I haven’t measured that.
Under the cellophane-type wrapper it came in, the copper foil tape was further protected by a fair length of transparent film.
The white coloured backing on the good quality, shiny finish, ‘copper pest-tape’ peels away easily once you get a ‘start’, in my experience. It is more of a challenge to stop it from unrolling once you have cut the required length!
The tape sticks well to the pots & barrels I have tried so far and remains in situ, despite the weather.
Time will tell when the crafty little souls come out to play!

I’m honestly so surprised at how effective this is at stopping snails. We have a raised vegetable trug and little snails always manage to get in a eat all the leaves. We put the tape around the the base and the top and so far so good.
Hopefully it’ll continue to work throughout the summer.
I will say that it doesn’t stick amazingly well, we really had to press it down. I would recommend making sure wherever you’re applying this is completely dry.
This is brilliant pet control which is absolutely nice and lovely.
Jusy wrap it around your plant and you’ve place protection in place which is nice and lovely.
Eco friendly way to deter slugs.
Wind the tape around your pot. The slugs don’t like the copper.
No need for chemicals
Got to try to control slugs, working well so far, sticks well
Buried this in a ring around my sapling apple tree and so far – without using any extra products other than fertiliser, the tree is staying extremely healthy without any sign of the normal parasites or snails/slugs. So as far as I can tell it is working. I plan to use it on the borders of the flower beds but I expect the same result.
I’ll update this review once I have some more findings.
Snails and slugs have been destroying my garden for a long while, it’s such an annoying thing. I have been constantly fighting them. So I tried this product, wrapped it up around the flowers , plants and broccolis etc..
It’s proved that this product worked, now I don’t see any slugs or snails in the protective circles , absolutely fantastic!
A wonderful result, highly recommend!
I’ve got copper tape all over the place in the garden. Some tapes are thin strips and others are thick bands, like this roll. It’s performing well in conjuction with the salt i sprinkle around the bottom of the plant pots on the patio. In windy and rainy weather such as we’re having at the moment the salt gets blown and washed away so it’s good to have a fallback which is where the copper tape comes in. Not sure why the slugs and snails don’t like it but for whatever reason it seems to keep them at a distance. Also, any I’ve got left over I can use for my cardmaking. Versatile stuff!
This tape is a really good idea is simple and fast and is working well.
The only negative part for me is the adhesion the surface has to be very clean and even like that they remove a bit, but is strong and durable.
The size is fantastic 20 meters, so I will have for a few time and maybe until summer, definitely is working and I will buy again.
On a daily basis I had a huge problem where I find snails and slugs are climbing onto and into my black bin and I didn’t know how I could prevent this from happening. This was until I found this product and I thought I’d give it a go. So I have used this around the base of my black bin in the hope that it will prevent slugs and snails from crawling up it and after two weeks I can say I have not seen one on or in my black bin anymore. It’s still well stuck onto my bin too!
So to me this means the tape definitely works and I highly recommend it.
Decent tape to keep those yukky slugs away, certainly does it’s job and sticks well and doesn’t look too garish or noticeable.
I received this item through the Amazon Vine programme.
This is a good value roll of copper self-adhesive tape, 3cm wide.
I use it to keep the slugs off my plant pots and it does work, though you have to keep the tape clean.
The tape itself adheres well, how long it stands up to the weather I’m not sure, time will tell.
I understand it has other uses in electronics but I cant comment on that.
Retailing at 10.99 for a 20 metre roll, I think it’s good value for money.
I always found my outdoor plant’s leave disappeared from time to time or sometimes the whole plant only left with twigs. The leaves were eaten by slugs. I have heard from some people telling me copper foil tape might work and therefore I give it a try. The application is easy, just stick it around the outside of the pot and that’s it.
I also did some online search to see what is the chemistry in between the copper foil and the slug/snail, here it is: the snail slime itself (with its acids) on contact with copper tape reacts with the copper alloy (IF and that’s a big IF it’s thick and contains enough copper alloy) to create a foul taste or suffocating effect similar to that of copper sulphate, hence the slug or snail gets a bad taste and then turns back to get a breather.
After I understand the logic, I have more confidence in using it. It didn’t kill them but instead, keep them away from the plant which is good enough to me already. And after a few weeks of observation, I think it works as my plant still growing well with leaves.
I will be honest, I wasn’t at all convinced that this product would work at keeping slugs from my plants, but, I am amazed to say that it does. In the past I have had to use beer traps which aren’t the most pleasant of things to use, and I do hate to kill things. I had to do something though because my garden seems to be overrun with slugs. They eat all my plants, and surprisingly they slither into my outdoor cats bowls and eat their food! My husband taped off an eating area for the cats, and so far I am thrilled to say that the slugs are nowhere near their bowls anymore. It’s like a miracle deterrant and I love that the slugs don’t die. Of course I can’t tape off all of my plants which means they still get to them, but I guess the occasional beer trap will still have to be used for those unfortuante ones.
It’s not really the right time of year to properly review this as a slug and snail repellent but that’s what I ordered it for. I grow tomatoes from seed starting indoors about now and moving them outdoors when the risk of frost has passed. I do know that slugs love ripe fruit and hosta’s and I’ve seen them ruin many a hosta leaf (see photo). They also won’t cross copper, so running some of this tape around the most vulnerable of your plants should save them from becoming slug and snail food. 20 metres is 65 feet and this reel is a good length to provide lots of protection. Should work well in the spring/summe
3cm is a good width of tape and there’s enough length here to cover a multitude of spots in the garden that need some protection. Adhesion is fine and the tape seems to be of good quality.
No slugs around at present so can’t really test, but this is a nice wide tape (I’ve had no luck with thin stuff) and decent length for the price. Look forward to seeing it in action.
We have a courtyard garden so everything is in pots or growbags. Last year, slugs and snails did a lot of damage, but we were reluctant to use “lethal force” to deter them.
I ordered this tape based on previous customer reviews and hope that it will be the solution to the pest problem.
This arrives as a plastic sealed roll with a hard centre measuring approx 3cm high with a diameter of approx 11cm.
The tape is a decent thickness, unlike others I have tried & has good adhesion.
I’ve applied it in my greenhouse to keep the slugs away from my seedlings & I’m hoping this year I might finally get a crop of brussel sprouts without the ravening hordes taking them out after I line the rims of the pots with this stuff.
Anything that deters slugs is good in my books.
This copper foil pest tape from EFA International is currently selling on Amazon for 10.99 for that price you get a 20 Metre roll. The tape is wider than a standard sellotape roll and it adheres well to different garden surfaces. The copper colour provides a stylish finish as well.Especially useful around pots to protect your plants in the early stages of growth and negates the need for more toxic blue slug pellets.
I have thus far used it on pots and thus far it is has been successful at keeping slugs/snails at bay.
Can also be used in arts and crafts project, giving this tape added versatility.
This copper tape is wide enough to deter all slugs and snails from crossing it. However, it does not provide complete protection as slugs can come up from underground, if given the opportunity. For that reason I also use mats impregnated with copper as a further line of defence. The tape has good adhesion to all surfaces. Reasonably priced.
From experience I know that copper tape around plant pots really does deter slugs and snail. I thought that it would look rather garish but in fact it is hardly noticeable once in place.
It is a little early in the season to try out this tape in the garden. However it is a good width and adheres well. It is 20 metres long so works out at pretty good value at about 11.
It is well worth the money to save your precious seedlings and plants!
I haven’t had he opportunity to use it with my plants yet but I fully intend to in the summer to prevent slug attacks in an eco friendly way in the meantime though my husband has been using it for various modelling projects and he says the tape is good quality and sticks well.
his tape is wider than previous tape i have used in the past, it stuck well to my pots and is a nice eco friendly way to protect my plants from being eaten by snails and slugs without harming them
This is a good solid reel of sticky-backed copper foil.
I’ve used this extensively in my garden and it really does deter slugs and snails. You need to keep it clean (a gentle rub with a cloth every so often with a mild cleaner does wonders). Looks quite unobtrusive around plant pots and even raised timber planters.
Can also be used for shielding (hobby electronics) and to line key boxes. I put this inside my keybox near the door and it shields the keyless remote from being detected, like a small Faraday cage.
