First one installed ok but no power to any appliance returned and got a replacement 2 days later. This one worked fine 100% .So top marks for service if only more firms were like this
It has its own app and also works with Amazon Alexa. Best part about it is it also has a timer thus allowing for particular charge times for my devices and remote turn on/off option if required.
Had to set up a new wifi network as it doesnt work on 5g other than that very happy with the produc
I had an old mechanical timer to work a light while I’m out. This is much easier to use and more flexible. It arrived on time, no problems.
I now have two of these switches and they work seamlessly. I use them in conjunction with Yonomi to automate lights in the house. They allow me to connect without having to have ‘another ‘ hub.
I bought one of these to replace a LightwaveRF equivalent. After about 2 years with this system, I have found them unreliable and not very robust. There are several, apparently identical, suppliers of similar adapters that do not need an expensive “hub” to operate but this version is a UK supplier. I had to invoke their support to sort out a problem with my wifi network and they were excellent, staying with me until they had talked me through the setup and making sure all was well.
Unfortunately, this is the only piece of kit they do which does not require a hub, otherwise I would consider replacing all my LightwaveRF devices.
Well made product. Connected straight to network on 4g/2.4g. When first used the timer the device froze but showed up on the phone as a connection issue and Bt are playing with our broadband at the moment and have had no issues since. Using to operate a 1800w oil radiator.
I have been using my plug for the lamp in my living room and it’s been brilliant to ask my Google hub to turn the lamp on or off, but you can just use the app too. It was so easy to set up on the app, basically just logging into your Wi-Fi and it’s ready to use. I haven’t experienced any issues with the Wi-Fi connection. The timer function on the app is brill!
I have used Energenie plugs before and was hapoy with them. This version is a very welcome change. Firstly they are smaller and fot the plug better as not so tall, they done a great job of shrinking the plug to make it more compact. Also nice helpful green light on the side so i can see its on or off at a glance. The best part though is its directly linked to your home wifi which gives it greater stability and faster connection between command and action, almost instantly done. Works nicely with google home and really really easy to install with the app or via web account. Very recommended indead.
Very neat and tidy, easily fits in space of a single mains plug.
Setting up is a bit strange, you have to change your phone’s data connection and network. Not as slick and simple as some other devices.
Some instructions on how to configure for use with Alexa would be useful, especially as the name of the skill appears to have an odd character in it? Energenie-MiJHome?
The plug is nice and compact and does not take up much more space than an ordinary plug. It is easy to set up (via a smart device (phone, etc.)) and has quite a good range.
Bought one of these devices to complement my smart home setup. I’m slowly building up my gadgets and found this one effective and easy to set up. I use it with Google Assistant voice commands as well as being part of google home routine; used it with IFTTT commands too. Through the summer it controlled a desk fan in combination with a thermostat. Its Wi-Fi seems to have good range and thus far has been very reliable. Works well with the Mihome app and also my web based account too. Can and has been used with the geofencing capability too. Would definitely get another and recommend, a thumbs up from me.
A very nice, compact smart plug that is a good beginning to my smart home.
All the below was written whilst I was using an EE broadband smart hub. Now the hub has been replaced, I have no issues at all with the energenie wifi switches; they reconnect OK and do not drop connection.
Original review: Neat compact item and no hub required. I’ve had one for a few months and have been happy with it. Just once that switch had an effect whereby the unit was just sat there, disconnected from the app and website, with the green led flashing approx every second. The unit didn’t need re-pairing to my WiFi, just power off and on again. Has worked ever since that one event. But the second unit I bought showed that effect constantly. Sometimes after a day, sometimes an hour. Power off/on cured the issue – briefly. Swapped locations in the house, but the fault followed the new unit. Replaced by amazon – and the replacement did exactly the same! 2nd replacement seems OK.
The latest plug comes with more info on the box, but is still silent on frequency. I deduce its 2.4GHz only, as setup hangs when trying 5GHz. Also, the app has recently had a much – needed update, and now puts up an exclamation mark if a WiFi plug is offline (Previously there was no indication that a plug was offline and commands were still issued as if the WiFi plug was one of their one-way 433MHz switches).
On balance, I’m OK now, but will need more time to be confident of reliability, given the frequent WiFi drops on 2 out of 4 units.
Edit – the latest unit was sat there with no comms today. Green led flashing approx every second. Removed from socket and replaced and operation restored immediately. Oh dear – 4 days that lasted, I had had high hopes. The original unit carries on performing OK, including in that exact location.
I have two Energenie smart plugs. I’ve had them fot 5 weeks. They were pretty easy to set up on the app. I ewnt away for a week and then had to reset again them to work with Alexa, whch is easy. Other than that, they seem good value for money. I’d buy anothe
I was having issues with the range of the gateway controlled smart plugs.
This solves that problem and works with the same app!
I love the Google Home compatibility and also use IFTTT to program intelligent switching operations.
I have several different MiHome devices and they work brilliantly.
A great addition to automate your home. Easy to setup and works with Alexa. No hub required.
Worth getting.
Excellent Smart plug that works just by using WIFI. I have other Mihome devices and this is trusted brand and glad see evolution of new smart plug. Works excellent with Alexa, Google and miHome own app. IFTTT
Excellent product. Had problems setting this up, but this was due to my fault not the socket. Emailed the supplier telling them the product was faulty not would not connect. They telephoned me talked me through the procedure in easy to understand language and it has worked perfectly ever since . I would definitely recommend this product.
I’ve just about filled the house with Energenie products now and this Wi-Fi plug has proved very useful. Its currently in use with the kettle, and that probably sounds really lazy, but just imagine , there you are, deep into your favourite box set, you fancy a warm drink and you say “Alexa, turn the kettle on” By the time you have paused the show, wandered to the kettle (maybe after a detour for another necessary visit) its boiled and ready. Just need to teach Alexa to make the tea now. It was much cheaper than re-investing in a smart kettle, easy to set up, small and neat. Have now purchased more, a fan that’s on a schedule , lights also lazy I know via Alexa, but double up as security feature on schedule again when we are out. Endless uses, so invest now, you wont regret it. Actually I think it must be time “Alexa, turn the kettle on !”
Great product, easy to set up and use. I bought them for my auntie to control her lamps whilst out. I would like to see a built in power monitor making it possible to work out if the lamp is on / off at the switch, or perhaps calculate power usage. Nevertheless this is a great product.
Not yet used but this is a great make and the product, not needing a hub, should be good. Very neat too!
I Use this my plug…for switching on my heater in the bedroom
Before I go upstairs… excellent I had a timer control before but now I have total flexibility on times o
Easy to set up and works really well with my Alexa
I have found these smart plugs really useful, and the set up was really easy too, took just minutes and I have used with my Amazon Alexa. I would definitely highly recommend these to others.
I’ve tried a few of these different smart plugs and I really think these are the best! It was a quick setup and they are very quick to respond to my voice commands via Alexa. The free MiHome app also works well and there are lots of options to setup timers and geofencing so for example I can setup a lamp to be turned on when I’m approaching home in the evening after work. Well worth giving these plug a go.”
Amazing little WiFi smart plug and so easy to set up on the iPhone as well! I use it for my bedside lamp and it is very convenient as you can control everything through your app. Also the app is very user friendly, I will definitely recommend it!!!
Fantastic little gadget – we use two side by side in the mornings. One for the kettle and one for the coffee machine.
Great product, very easy to set up and works well in my whole home WiFi set up. Alexa integration was easy- just as the skill and it works every time. The size of the plug is compact and could fit 2 side by side no problem.
Having purchased one of these products and being very satisfied with the set up and operation I decided to buy 5 more. The key to that decision was that Energenie is a British company with UK support. The product is fully rated at 13 amps which a lot of products are not, so it is suitable for use with heating and cooling appliances.
I have bought several of these products by other manufacturers previously and was drawn to this because Energenie is a British company with UK support. The product is also rated 13 amps which many products are not so this is suitable for heating and cooling appliances. I found the set up easy to follow and it has worked reliably for over a month so impressed I have decided to buy a five pack and replace my other devices which have not been so reliable
I already have light switches and smart plugs from Energenie along with the mihome hub. This does not require the hub and was a doddle to set up. Plug it in, open the mihome app on your phone, add new device and follow the instructions. All done in one minute. Now I can switch the tv off in the kitchen using Alexa when my wife forgets to do so! Help to turn you into a true lazy B.
This was so easy to install. Plug in, turn on, download the app and let it find the device then connect to Alexa using the skill.
Once installed this works perfectly with everything I’ve tried. Initially this was for a lamp without a smart bulb, but I’ve found more uses for it since. We’ve had a display light that can turn on and show a picture, a phone charger I can turn on and off when needed to save power and a monitor, so I think I’ll end up needing more!
Works every time so far without any issues, so easy to recommend.
This really is a very useful little device not to say smart little device. It takes very little setting up and I was shocked to find that by following the instructions to the letter it worked first time.
What does it do? To be blunt it lets you switch what ever device it is plugged into it to be be switched on and off. Now to be totally honest it is just a wee bit more complicated than that but not much. Once set up it will let the operator
switch on or off any device up to 220 to 240 volt 3 Kw device remotely via phone, tablet or laptop.
Remote Smart devices are improving leaps and bounds. This Mi Home Smart Plug is a great example. I love it.
I was almost giving it 1 star as setting it up was frustrating. I persevered and now I am happy with my handiwork. No complicated or expensive setup, I am just using the MiHome App and I am able to switch it off and on from my Smartphone.
I love the timers for setting time to charge devices so that I don’t have to charge them for many hours like what happens with non-smart plugs if you get to unplug. This smart plug, once set is very easy to use. It’s well built so feels sturdy.
Great little gadget, easy to set up with my Android phone. Have been turning on and off my bedside lamp, works super quick on my pedestrian wifi network. Was really pleased to see the app includes geofencing and timers.
The form factor would allow you to put two products in the same double socket.
This is the first smart plug I’ve used – and it works just fine, so I’m not sure how much I can find to say about it! I use it for my bedside lamp, so now I can just tell Alexa to turn it on and off, and on and off it goes!
The instructions leave a lot to be desired, I must admit – it’s clear enough on how to get the plug working and connected to the wifi, less clear on how to connect it to devices like Alexa or Google Home. I pretty much had to muddle through that myself, and it took about 10 minutes and a bit more of Googling to get it sorted – so clearer instructions there rather than just the equivalent of ‘connect to home smart network’ would have been helpful – knocked a star off for that!
This is a great device, but I had a lot of unnecessary trouble setting it up.
Without going into a great long rant about it, the instructions tell you to install the MiHome app on your phone or tablet in order to set the WiFi Smart Plug up. Unfortunately, there are two MiHome apps on the Google Play Store and silly me chose the wrong one. There followed a lot of head-scratching and wondering why the app couldn’t find the smart plug to configure it and, indeed, hadn’t even heard of it. It was only when I tried scanning the QR code on the side of the box and discovered a completely different app that the penny dropped. I’d installed the Xioami MIHome app, not the Energenie MiHome app.
Once over this confusion, everything went according to plan. As with other web-based Wi-Fi devices, you have to create an account and go through a process to discover the smart plug and connect it to your router. Once that’s done, you have a choice of ways of controlling it:
– The app allows you to switch the plug on and off directly. You can group devices together and switch them all on and off together. You can also set timers to turn individual devices, or groups of devices, on and off, although I was disappointed to find that you couldn’t set an off time without also setting an on time, as I wanted to turn the standard lamp that’s plugged into my plug off automatically at 22:30, but to turn it on manually. Fortunately, there’s a workaround which I’ll come on to.
– The app supports geofencing, so it can work with your phone to switch on and off as you enter and leave a particular area. You could use this to turn heating, a kettle or a light on as you approach your home.
– If you have Alexa – either via a phone or tablet, or a smart speaker – there is a skill you can use. It’s easy enough to set up, but I found that I had to ask Alexa to discover devices. They don’t register automatically.
– It works with Google Home, but I don’t have the hardware to test that.
– The most powerful way of automating the plug is by using IFTTT. I hadn’t heard of IFTTT (it stands for IF This Then That) before getting the smart plug, but it’s a great way to combine different web services and smart devices from other manufacturers. It’s really easy to use, and there are a number of ready-made apps available on the IFTTT web site that work with Energenie devices. I was quickly able to configure two scripts so that the lamp I’ve connected to the smart plug turns on at sunset – whatever time that may be – and off at 22:30.
So, in the end I’m really happy with the MIHome WiFi Smart Plug. Unlike other Energenie devices it’s standalone and doesn’t need a special gateway to work; just your home WiFi. It’s doing exactly what I want it to and it’s a shame that the setup process was so open to error and misunderstanding, otherwise I’d have given it five stars.
