it’s going on a door at a dog kennels where large dogs are constantly jumping on the door. It will do the job I hope.
Installed about six months ago and not had a problem with it. Still works well.
I love this lock as it’s very sturdy and well made. The key fits precisely and satisfyingly. Fitting the lock was a joy because it is very well made & the dimensions are accurate. The depth in the frame is quite reassuringly deep for security reasons. I love it and am glad I made this purchase.
The lock itself feels very solid and well made.
Unless your replacing a very similarly-sized lock, will need some carpentry skills to fit.
I’m an amateur DIYer but this lock is easy to fit and is a quality produc
We used this lock for our garage. It was good value easy to install and did the job.
Perfect for what I needed. very sturdy, well made, cannot fault it.
Fantastic 5 lever sashlock from ERA. It is absolutely solidly built throughout and meets the BSI requirements for insurance purposes. It comes with 2 keys. Simple enough to install as a replacement just some slight tweaks with the chisel and in it goes. Chrome face plates on both sides finish it off nicely when installed. Really happy with the purchase.
great no complaints and its kite marked ! door feels more secure with this lock than with my previous one . highly recommend
Easy to instal, this is just as sturdy as the Yale version.
Great quality lock with a massive throw on the bolt for extra security.
Lock was a straight swap of my old ERA lock. Didn’t release how easy this would be. Out with the old and in with the new. The only difference are the 2 plates that sit over the lock and where the lock inserts into. I used the existing old plates for now but will need to chisel alittle and drill some new screw holes for the lock plate to be screwed too.
Replacement for 20+ year old lock that had seized. Had to make some minor adjustments to fit but otherwise it looks to be a solid, well made and reliable replacement.
Excellent lock, robust and build very good. Easy to install. Would buy agai
This lock replaced an older version of the same, over 20 years in use but now weathered and sticking a lot, despite oiling.
It was well worth changing, the new is smooth and decidedly sharper with a good click both opening, closing and locking. We chose the same one for ease of fit.
It was easy to install because it was exactly the same size and fit for the door.
Some chiselling out was needed on the door frame however as the new keeper was longer than the old one, well bound to be changes after 20 years.
Doing the job well so far, these locks seem reliably made.
The old lock was still in good condition but the bolt was just worn with turning and a bit corroded from damp so decided to replace.
We live in a very wet/cold part of UK so can recommend.
moved in to a new property so wanted the same but new lock for security reason, matched exactly
Surprisingly! this was even sturdier and better quality than the one of the same make I bought it to replace.
Needed this for my backdoor. Easy to install and works well.
Was in place replacement for the unit that was already there. Additional bonus; this one is recognized by the home insurers.
Used to replace 3 lever version with lost keys. Minor adjustments required but nothing tricky
Good lock for the money, used on a shed, very sturdy. Few issues in the handle won’t work with a knob needs a handle. Overall very good.
Great lock that’s so simple to fit even for a first timer like me! Strong durable and works perfectly smooth. Great VFM
Replaced an older, broken ERA lock (23 years old, and used daily!), slotted right in and worked fully straight away.
Price was really good too; recommended.
Had to replace 3 lever lock so lots of work to fit it. Good quality but this one looked like it had been used before. One of the keys had rust and packaging had been re taped. If used please label as this
This seems very hardy! Bought to replace an old era lock in the back door on our house that we didn’t have a key for. This is bigger than the one that was there so do make sure you check the size properly if you want an easy job! Took about an hour to chisel the hole in the door larger, but not an impossible job by any means. The lock itself seems really sturdy and secure. Needed a tiny bit of wd40 for the key to turn More smoothly but now it’s perfect. Would buy again.
Keeping my new electric bike in my 15th century garage. Need this standard of lock to meet insurance requirements. Excellent value. My maintenance man will have trouble fitting to my old garage doors, due to maladjusted door fitting, but he will succeed eventually.
Very sturdy. Great lock. Exactly what we needed for our garage door.
Sturdy, simple to fit and a reassuringly solid action. I have fitted to back door as a second lock, and the door now closes with a nice smooth action. Feels solid and was easy to fit. Recommend.
I bought this to replace a 3 level garage door lock. I was slightly deeper (2mm) than the lock it was replacing and the bolt went slightly deeper into the frame (another 2mm) so a modest amount of lightweight chiselling was in order.
Also note: The lock’s face plate is twice as thick as it’s predecessor, since the lock has front plate then there is a cosmetic chrome plate to go over that plate.
Which means the rebate for the plate from the existing one was too shallow and I had to make that another 2mm deeper….. meaning that the lock mortace had to be deepened by a total of 2-3mm.
Once installed I was VERY happy with the lock – it is a nice sturdy 5 lever with a smooth action and substantial bolt. It was easy (though not trivial) to fit and well worth the effort.
I expect that if I was replacing a chunky 5 level lock with this one I wouldn’t have needed to do any/much woodwork.
Very happy with my purchase.
This is a proper lock. Easy to fit if you a replacing a cheap lock fitted by your builder at the lowest price..
Solid lock. Easy to install, fluid lock mechanism. Only tiny criticism is the Scrooge-like number of keys supplied but I’m not going to dock a star for that because sh*t’s on lockdown yo.
I had a ERA lock for 26 years and this one was a ideal replacement as there was only slight alterations.
At the moment it appears a good buy.
Wrong size for what I needed but prompt delivery and return of payment. Product was good quality.
Its sticking already and only locked shed once for what its supposed to be its not as sturdy as I think it should be..ok am adding to this as iv had lock for 2mth or around that it’s working great lock is sturdy and well made I would reccomend this lock I have it on my shed as a back up lock have a 5 lever as the main lock….if you buy you’ll be happy with purches
This works great. It’s fitted to a gate in the garden, and it works fine. The keys are only just long enough for the thickness of the gate.
Era locks are great and these where a great price
Working perfectly well for several months already. It took me time to mount it correctly but it worth it.
Great little bit of kit. Now feel safe with all my tools behind this door. Easy to assemble and works a charm.
Bought for a solid wood front door that i have used for my new shed,
The anti drilling plates gives you peace of mind when your filling your shed with tools, and the door opening outwards is also an advantage if security tbh think shed is more secure than house now,
Lock fitted into the already existing lock space eithin my door, solid locking plate,
Smooth mechanism, so overall happy with purchase
For the price this item is very good. I used it on my garden gate as I have an autistic son and I needed a two way lock system. Installation is just like any other locking mechanism of this type (not completely straightforward and many tools needed). The screws didn’t snap, like I have experienced before. The lock itself works smoothly and easily.
Solid, quality lock. generally larger than a standard lock, more suitable for a thicker door leaf
It’s seems a good lock, comes with two keys, 3 would be nice.
Replaced my yale 5 lever lock as was unsure of where abouts of 1 key.
And rather play safe than sorry and replace the lock.
Now keeping the yale 5 lever lock as a spare
Only thing wrong was both keys had not been finished very well I had to file rough edges off before the keys would fi
Nice and easy to fit . Feels a nice quality lock.
I bought this to replace an identical lock at my mother’s house.
It appears well made and very easy to refit.
Perfect replacement lock. Easy to fit, so much better and cheaper than the equivalent Yale lock.
Excellent quality lock easy to fit and keys more sturdy than lock replaced
very good service. 1st class product at a very good price.
Pleased with the quality. Feels sturdy and easy enough to fit.
Very heavy, very solid, one of the best locks I have fitted. Feels like it will last for years.
It’s a door lock……it works and so far it works well
A really easy replacement for the tired locks on the house I moved into, and a great price.
The screw to change the direction of the latch was very tight, and nearly threaded when removing. But it’ll never need to be undone again, so not a problem really.
Very solid door lock which fitted in exactly the same cavity the old ERA lock came out of which was a bonus.
I bought this lock to meet my insurance companies requirements . As there was already a lock in place then fitting this was simply a case of removing the old one and inserting this one. It feels far more sturdy than the old one and operates very easily.
If you are replacing older ERA 5-lever locks then this is more of the same, strangely in a red colour – though naturally once installed you don’t see it.
It is smooth and works well and is pretty cheap for what it is. it looks solid and quality is OK but don’t expect miracles for the price. 45mm backset.
But as with other makers, the locking box is different – which means you cannot use the old ERA locking box. No – you need to chisel an larger hole which means a 3-5min job now becomes a 15min job. Also it seems to be rotated 180deg so the screw holes are on the other side? Why ERA?
Also note it comes with 2 keys only, not 3 like other locks so budget for another key cut if you need more than 2. I guess that’s why it’s cheap(er)…
I wanted my shed to be extra secure as it is a small workshop and the tools in there are expensive. So I bought one of these and two of the Era locks that are the same but support only a key (no door handle). My intension was to put all three on my shed door and link them together such that using the key on this lock would open and close the two other locks at the same time (which are placed at the top and bottom of the door).
To link them meant that I had to cut holes in the side of the casing (on the internal side of the door) and drill mounting screws into the sliding lock mechanism.
With a dremel tool it took me more than an hour to cut into the side of each and I only needed a relatively small slot in each. To actually cut enough into it to access the mechanism would take hours. To drill holes in the sliding mechanism was actually impossible in the sections that an intruder would be able to get to. It is made of layers which alternate between something that looks like stainless steel and layers that are black. My drill would go through the first steel layer no problem, which is a couple of milimeters. But when it hits the black layer the drill will not go through no matter how hard you press or how long you try. I did find a very small section inside the lock that I could attach to in the end and my triple lock system is now working well.
My difficulties in modifying these locks has left me confident in their strength against a brute force attack. Nobody is going to succeed with an attack on these with hand tools and power tools. The only way to open the door would be to either smash the door or pick the lock. I can’t say how hard it would be to pick the lock, but I suspect that is a skill few intruders would have.
Well made ,bought it to replace a 2 lever lock ,and it was difficult to fit ,although the crucial 2 and half inch was the same the lock was thicker and longer ,so a lot of time spent chopping out the door and door frame.
Solid 5 Lever British standard mortice lock. Goodvalue for money. Only downside is that it only comes with 2 keys.
Easy to fit and is doing what it’s supposed to do.
Reasonably good quality, and excellent value for money. Easy to fit and nice smooth action.
This 5 lever lock does as advertised (+) However ERA used to provide Brass keys with there sash locks, this unfortunately does not appear to be
so these days and 2 cheaper metalic keys are supplied (-)
Fitted this in no time very strong and good quality.
eally solid, good value for money and easy to install – what more can you ask fo
I live in France so after my terrible experiences with expensive and poor quality French door mechanisms and locks I was really happy that I could get a quality British 5 lever front door lock delivered here. If fitted correctly these locks are almost as good as Chubb but as I found after a couple of weeks the handle was not engaging the catch properly and as a result I was almost shut out! Taking the mechamism out of the door revealed that the three screws which hold the cover plate on had worked loose thus allowing some play in the mechanism. After retightening the screws and re-inserting the lock into the door all was good again. I will buy again but will add some loctite to the cover plate screws methinks!
Replaced a similar lock where the latch had seized. So it was an easy to fit replacement. Just had to get more spare keys cut.
What can you say about a lock other than it was well made easy to install and works a treat. Good value for money
