Let down by a joiner and needed something to finish off a utility room and bathroom door. This cut through worktops with total ease. The measuring guide was spot on. The adjustability and accuracy meant a perfect result. For the price, you cannot go wrong with this. I would recommend the additional guide (two pieces that clamp together). The saw and guides come in robust canvas bags, overalls, a brilliant bit of kit.

Possibly not the best saw but for doing most cuts with a decent degree of accuracy this saw combined with the track is a very good purchase

I’m very happy with this track/plunge saw. It’s easy to operate (once you’re famiar with it) and does accurate cuts. I also have an Evolution single bevel mitre saw which I’m also very happy with. Evolution are not quite up there with Dewalt, Makita or Milwaukee, but they are very good quality for the price. The only criticism I have about the R185CCSX is it’s fairly noisy, but other than that it does the job nicely.

There is lots of power there in that tool and it cuts eadily any piece of timber within the described dimensions and one needs to be very carefull when handling it. But there is no laser pointing the direction of the cut.

As a home DIY’er and having just purchased the R255SMS mitre saw and the R185 CCSX+ circular saw, I have found them to be excellent saws. I’ve never come across a multi material blade before, having previously sharpened many TCT’s for a Saw Doctors company, if a blade had hit a nail it would most certainly would have chipped the teeth, these blades are brilliant. The ease of assembly is perfect and accuracy adjustments minimal to none. 10/10 in my eyes. Made my own track from reclaimed PVC window sill and shower trim as money is tight at the moment.
Now looking to possibly buying the Bench Saw.

Bought this for installing metal clad insulated conservatory roof. Worked brilliantly. Also came in very handy on laminate kitchen worktops. Cuts smooth enough to make nice joints.
Top tip is to cut from back side to avoid chipping of laminate surface

I’m just an occasional DIY’er and bought this saw after a period of research. It is sturdy made, easy to use (watch some of Evolutions tuition videos) and adjust, and the bag is ideal for storing the kit. I have used it to cut decking and other wood and it hasn’t let me down. I would strongly recommend this saw.

Very impressed with this saw it is well designed and a joy to use. The LED light illuminates the blade cutting point nicely and alerts you to the saw being plugged in. I also bought the trend 8ft track for cutting 8 by 4 sheets and it works really well with accurate cuts every time. The case the saw came with is nicely made and keeps the saw and accessories safely stored when not in use. Very happy with the Trend products that I’ve bought this year and will definitely be buying more.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFirst of all its not a plunge saw its just a circular saw on the track. The circular saw is OK for the price with nice blade that can go through the different materials. The guide rail is useless two parts put together are not straight so forget about even cut. Let’s be honest if you need a straight cut you need a single guide rail !!! if you build a shed and wants to cut any bigger board included guide rail will do the job. Before I bought it I knew about that so it doesn’t bother me. I trim a bit two pieces to get better alignment and its fine. For longer cuts witch required more precise cut I will buy longer guide rail that’s it. Overall its a good saw and for this price I cannot complain.I could off course buy a saw only and separate guide rail but here in a bundle was a really handy bag which I recommend.

If you’re looking for a saw with a guide and don’t want to spent a fortune on saw like festool this one is the best option just buy a guide length that you use the most. If you are going to cut small pieces up to 700mm this one is fine.If you want to cut up to 1400mm buy longer rail. 4 stars from me only because of guide rail.

Has a bit of a tendency to kickback at the end of a cut but this is my first circular saw and I’ve never felt like it was unsafe. I expect it is operator error.

    Comfortingly heavy and stable.

Think hard about whether cordless is worth paying for. I use and intend to use this infrequently and at 4m the cord is long. As a novice with this type of tool though, the cord having plenty slack to complete the cut but not being in the way is still something I have on my subconscious and this wouldn’t been a concern if I’d sprung for cordless

This is a good, powerful, domestic power-rated circular saw. The saw comes with a good quality general purpose blade and a decent, handled storage bag that would easily accommodate spare/alternate blade types if you needed these — so far we’ve only needed the general type blade supplied. Although the manufacturer recommended that Vine reviewers also request the 2800 track, the PTB as Vine didn’t offer the combination together. To see how we’d get on, I borrowed my brother’s tracks (from one of the big brand names), and this worked perfectly with them. The manual includes a full pictorial user instruction set, that’s pretty clear and easy to follow.

The saw is quite large and solid feeling — it’s one of the heaviest power tools I’ve used — but not so much so that I struggled to use it, and presumably the weight helps to keep it stable when in use. Cuts powerfully and easily, with no unwanted play in the blade. Controls for depth and angle of cut are easy to read and select. We’ve not had a circular saw before, but after using this have wished we’d had one sooner: it’s far easier for jobs such as fitting doors, where cuts need to be taken off the bottom of a standard size to fit it, than using a manual saw. Since I had no basis for comparison, I got my brother to look this over – and he rated it as a good, solidly built, and effective saw.

Lovely saw for the money. Doesn’t vibrate and oscillate like some saws. Feels more like a cordless but it is heavy. This isn’t too much of a problem. Slower rpm than other circular saws due to it being a multi-material saw. Just don’t push too hard and take it slower and gives a good cut. I have also used it with a track and it works brilliantly. Used with a shop vacuum and The dust extraction was pretty good.

Very good value compared to saw is the price range. It is well built and well featured. The alignments on my saw were spot on, but it is fully adjustable with grub screws for fine tweaks if necessary. The blade does appear to cut through everything, but too early to comment on its longevity.
Important to note – when ordering replacement blades, make sure you get the R185TCT-20CS one. The “CS” is important. The blade for the mitre saw, looks identical, but has the suffix MS and the teeth face the other way.

I bought this saw to cut up some Azobe reclaimed sleepers, 250x150mm. If you’re not aware this is an African hardwood, very hard and very heavy! I hadn’t used a circular saw before but once I’d got past the poor instructions, refer to YouTube for reviews instead, I’ve found it easy to use. It’s a fairly heavy unit but I have been using it for 4+hours at a time along with moving 100kg sleepers around.

The blade cuts through the timber fairly easily. I think any slight issues were down to my inexperience and the sometimes rough nature of the reclaimed sleepers. I’m very glad I’m not trying this with a manual saw, it’s not also known as Red Ironwood for nothing!

I’ve no doubt professional brands are better but for the amateur DIYer and for the price these Evolution saws are great value. The included bag is handy too and unlike some reviews mine fits inside no problem with the blade attached.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI got this with some of the Evolution track system as well.
The two work very well together and with nothing to compare to (first circular saw) it seems pretty good.
First things first. This is NOT a plunge saw. Regular circular saw with a sweep away guard. When using with the track it can catch a bit so be aware and adjust your technique accordingly but stay safe.
Depth of cut is set before cutting starts and there is no way I have found to be able to plunge this in to a specified depth so no cut outs for worktops really.
Quality of cut. With the supplied all singing and dancing blade it’s not terrible but there is some breakout and chipping to melamine when not used with the track (or a fence) and this is clear on the waste side of the cut. S make sure the tack is on the good side of the cut. I am ordering a spare blade with a lot more teeth for when I need better cuts but for now the stock one is fine.
CHECK. when supplied the saw may not have had the angles set properly. The little grub screws to set the angle for 90* and 45* were not quite spot on. I went to YouTube to find ways to check this without a protractor…. it can be done provided you have a square to check it against. It’s not hard to adjust but do take a bit of time on this before you start any actual job cutting.
I’ve seen some criticism of the bag for carrying this about. Well it’s sturdy enough and shouldn’t fall apart this year. Or the next. One issue. It’s a bit small. If I’m using a power tool over and over I most often leave the last bit or disk in it whether this is screwdrivers or grinders or even occasionally drills. With the blade in the tool this saw will not fit in the bag. Got to keep taking the blade off and when packing it away swing the guard up out of the way to the soleplate sits flat against the floor of the bag. Then it will close over. I daresay it’s very good practice to always remove the cutting bit/blade/disk from a tool when storing and if you are fabulous enough to do this then you won’t even see this as an issue. As soon as you have resolved to work this way then the issue disappears.
Overall? A budget option but I’m no cabinet maker so it does the job for me.
Do I recommend? Yes. For what it is, it does the job.

The saw needed tweaking out of the box the indicated angle on the plate was slightly off but easily reset with a square and screwdriver. The unit has plenty of power as i was cutting treated 2″ thick planks some on a rip cut at 45 degrees, there was no problem getting through the job. Blade guard is positive and does not interfere with the task of cutting. Plenty of flex to keep extension leads out of the way.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersLooks to be well made and feels solid to hold, I would suggest to check blade is square to base with engineers square, if not it is easily adjusted – like so, check the 0 & 90 stops are correct again these are easily adjusted with an allen key (supplied). Overall very good value for money compared to the superior but very over priced competitor’s. My saw came without screws to attach the dust extractor outlet to the saw body so I emailed Evolution and they are sending them out in the next post which shows they have a good customer service which should be peace of mind to prospective customers.

What an amazing tool! Once you open the package and see the quality of the tool you will be surprised! I own an other company amateur saw and we are talking about day and night. Huge difference. I have to admit that i was looking for Dewalt or Makita in my closest toolshop but i am happy to have selected Evolution once again. I a general DIY enthusiast (I’m not a trader or professional in any official manner) and so I jumped at the chance to review. I don’t want to look a gift-horse in the mouth, but I did notice that several parts of this item had surface rust, including the blade.. which i assume is just for the review item and not a sign of the finished products on sale. That aside, the whole thing worked very well and really just needed a good wipe and brush down. Evolution is a new brand to me, but this appears to work well alongside other brands that are sitting in my toolshed. This has proven, for me, to be a good all-rounder, cutting through the various wooden beams and occasional metal pipe at the angle required. (Sadly didn’t get the ST2800 track to use with this (I was unable to request it) but I’d imagine that would enhance this.) It feels smooth when cutting the motor packs enough oomph. It’s a good product.

Used this so far to make a door, including the jambs, for an outbuilding, a sturdy outdoor table and a couple of trestles. No real problems although I have to be careful where the clamps are placed because the motor body gets in the way sometimes. The depth setting seems accurate. Makes short work of any cutting jobs.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersJust what I needed to be able to cut 8′ x 4′ in a really straight line. I bought the R185CCSX saw with the ST2800 2.8m track. The track comes in two 1.4m parts which then join. I had no problems with alignment of the two halves which joined easily. There are two clamps to clamp the track to each end of the work-piece to be cut. The multi-material blade cuts MDF well though as yet I haven’t tried it on other materials and probably will never use it on metals. I was sceptical at first and nearly bought the wood specific blade but can see no reason now to do so.
My only grizzle is that the bag for the tracks is about 10mm too short so it is a struggle to put the track in the bag when not in use.

This item arrived safe and well packaged.
This couldn’t have arrived at a better time. I was just about to start a new project for my 10th anniversary – a wooden plaque.
This saw was quick and simple to set up straight out of the box. It was easy to handle with ergonomic grips and logical switch positions. The addition of an LED light along the cut line is quite useful too.
It cuts through solid wood with absolute ease. It cuts very deep thanks to such a big blade and its cutting position too.
I had not heard of Evolution power tools before this, but after using this saw I will be actively seeking out further tools from this manufacturer.
    I highly recommend this product.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersNicely put together. The saw is weighty and has a nice feel to it. The rubberised handle feels good to hold. It definitely beats my old cheapo saw that I bought from B&Q years ago. If you are going to rip up a lot of sheet material it might be worth investing in the track as well. This unit can also be bought as a package with 3 track pieces (each 34cm, total 102cm) but to be honest you’d be better off buying the saw on it’s own together with the 140cm 2 piece track (each being 70cm). You get a longer track which is only 2 pieces and copes better when cutting widths between 34cm and 68cm because you can use the 1 track piece rather than 2 pieces joined. You also get the 2 dedicated clamps with the 140cm track which are fantastic because they slot into the track and are clamped from underneath.
All in all for the money, a worthwhile investment. I will be making kitchen cabinets soon and will be using this saw extensively. Will update this review.

I really like the power and capability of this saw – it cuts anything you throw at it all day and feels solid and safe in the hand.
Combined with the Evolution ST2800 track(sold seperately) you have an accurate set up for repeatable cuts up to 2.8 metres long.
Evolution are producing better and better saws in my opinion and this would only be better if it had a plunge action for use with the track.
The ST2800 track fits a festool TS55 saw and so I’m thinking that the Evolution will fit festool track also (not tried it).
If this is your first track saw it’s a brilliant and value for money saw and in combination with the track is a great set up for accurate and repeatable cuts at length.

I am sure tradesmen have much more uses for circular saws such as this Evolution R185CCSX+ than a mere DIYer like me but this particular model is for domestic use.

Don’t be fooled by domestic use. This is a very powerful saw. The reason that it is specified as domestic is that it operates on the UK domestic electricity supply of 230V AC. Most professional tradesmen when working with this type of circular saw use 110 V which is the standard for site working.

My main use to date with the Evolution is boarding out the loft and that is where circular saws come into their own. That is making long straight cuts in fairly long pies of wood. Something that a chop saw could not do and a hand saw may be slow and not as accurate, And this Evolution does not object to the occasional unseen nail if working on old timber.

Cutting through the tongue in tongue and groove flooring boards to enable them to be lifted without splintering the wood is another excellent use. Often I have seen some folk trying to lever floor boards out with screw drivers, chisels and crowbars only to find they don’t go back down well.

Tradesmen that have been to my house have tried the evolution and have been impressed by its sheer power and the fact that the blades can handle a mix of wood and metal.

Tracks are an optional bit of kit that clamp to the boards and help to make very straight cuts very fast.

The saw comes well packaged and supplied with an adjustable guide and blade, more than 2 meteres of flex, a 3 pin plug and a useful heavy duty canvas carry bag with side pockets inside and out. Depth adjustment, angle adjustment – back and front with cams on the sole, to better control its glide should you be using a straight edge cutting guide that is not included. There is an exhaust port that affixes with tqo screws. The blade, R185 is a multi material cutter for wood and even mild steel; it fixes to a central hub quite securely and there is a locking catch to hold everything in place while tightening up. The only thing that it doesn’t come with, but perhaps it should, is an Allen key to fix the blade in place. No big thing if you are a trades-person since you probable have a set and I have several, so no stars removed for that, but it is essential and, I think, should be included. Apart from that, it fits nicely in the carry bag and work well although, like all such tools it is noisy so ear-defenders should be considered. I have used a number of evolution saws over many years and have always found them good to use and very reliable, so would expect this saw to be no different.

  48. JanetteLarson says:

    An excellent circular saw.

The saw has been designed to give you the confidence to cut just about everything as the blade can cope with multi materials, this means using recycled wood is a lot less time consuming as I no longer have to check and recheck that I have removed all the nails and staples etc, infact I no longer bother even wasting my time doing so unless the wood is being used for a decorative purpose.

I have the track which is designed to work with this saw, it is easy to attach to the base plate with two cams, this means I can now cut cleanly without veering off my line. Using this track I have successfully been ripping down 8×4 plywood for a job on my conservatory.

The saw arrives practically ready to go, you just need to put the blade in, this is a simple procedure using the lock switch and the Allen key, which you will find stored in the handle.
It has a long 4m lead which makes ripping up longer pieces of wood much easier.

The saw is safe and easy to use, for experienced and less experienced users alike.

The bagbis a nice touch, it fits the saw in it easily and the “cage” build into the mouth of the bag holds it wide open for easy access too.

Really impressed with the saw and multi purpose blade as it cuts well when doing rip and cross cuts in hard and soft woods. I also purchased the track which goes with the saw and can say it is well worth having as makes cutting down sheet stock a breeze.

The saw feels solid, it’s big compared some diy saws but that’s good. Not used the track yet but the saw works very well and is surprisingly quiet, the 4 metre lead is handy.
The instructions are pitiful, all in English but covering about 6 different models with small differences all mixed up through the book and it’s not the easiest to work out which bit to follow.
My version came with the carry bag, or ‘a’ carry bag since the saw doesn’t fit into it properly, with the saw inside the bag will not close which is daft but not a deal breaker.

Very good saw but the blade is no good for cutting sheets of mdf or counter top. It left a very rough finish. Changed to a 40t blade and does the job nicely.

This saw is pretty impressive! Had this for 10 days at the moment along with the Evolution 700mm track set, and together they have been used to go through several worktops, and 25mm ply rip sheets with the blade provided.
The saw itself feels very controllable – it’s comfortable too and a good weight; all qualities of a good quality machine. Faultless on the adjustments to change angles and once it’s on the track, there’s not a lot it won’t do – all this and the set together is over half the price of other manufacturers models! The multi material blade is great, but it also may be worth buying the Evo wood blade. I would happily recommend it.

Bought this saw for my husband, who is a fan of Evolution saws. Having owned their last model, this is a really nice upgrade. The little extras like the LED light and air blower to keep your work piece nice and clean while you cut make all the difference, and having it’s own carry bag is a massive bonus too, especially for the price.
Would recommend buying with the Evolution track so you can use the saw to cut long pieces of material in a straight line.
