I had the flir c2 that I bought a few years back and I must say, the flir c5 is better, not a major upgrade but you do see a difference in clarity. Maybe I should have bought the c3x to save a few dollars…

The recalibration every 30 seconds or so is annoying. Bit expensive for the homeowner that will only use it for an initial project and then maybe friends and family after that.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersYou have to spend some time getting used to this camera and how to understand and interpret the results. Particularly read up on the emissivity settings and pay attention to the distance you hold the camera from the object as this makes a difference and you have to match the settings accordingly.

We don’t use it with the FLIR cloud service, but it’s possible to just copy the pictures off it directly.

It’s reasonably battery hungry but not excessively so. Lasts long enough for our jobs – a couple of hours?

There’s no way to turn off the “FLIR” embedded logo it puts on every picture and this sometimes gets in the way, so you have to position the camera accordingly. Imagine if you got an iPhone and all your pictures had a little Apple logo in the bottom right corner that can’t be switched off… whatever. FLIR seem to insist on advertising on your pictures, even though this device is not exactly cheap!

I haven’t given it a whole lot of use, but at the time of purchase, I picked it up for about 450 (I think it was on amazon day).

It is quite easy to use, and it’s definitely helpful in finding minor issues when doing domestic surveys. It’s useful for spotting where the damp is occurring, rising damp and cold spots in a room. I’m sure there are many other occasions that this could be useful.

It is certainly not the best, but at its price, for its very pocketable size and for smaller servicing, it certainly serves its purpose.

Compact design, there is no onboard storage so any pictures have to be transferred via the app which is a pain in the backside to be fair. Overall though it is a great camera.

It works as advertised… a bit pricey for the level of clarity but, all around a nice imager.

Bought this to use for hunting down cold bridging in typical new build housing and seriously put off the mobile phone attachment models. The C5 is very compact and very easy to use. It’s increased cost over the lower models is well worth the money to get 180×120 thermal detection. Battery charges fairly quickly and lasts hours. Comes wit ha good quality belt holster style carry case that is plenty tough enough for typical usage cases. The device itself has a rugged rubber shell. Screen is large and clear but as with all Thermal cameras, don’t expect to just be really proficient at using it for a while unless you are already trained in their use. Also they are incredible for finding damp that is not visible to the eye.

Extremely useful camera, found to have many uses. I use it to show up heat anomalies on electronic printed circuit boards, i.e. difference in temperature between adjacent RAM chips. Also used for investigating sources of heat loss around walls and doorways in my house. Very convenient feature of camera is that it always takes 2 photos (one infra-red, the other conventional photo so you get a handle on what it was you are seeing in infra-red. Very sensitive. Very compact and portable. Holds battery charge well. Wish I had bought one years ago!!!!!!!

    Pros:
Compact, tripod connector, MSX software, USB-C charging, 2 yr warranty on unit, 10 years warranty on sensor.

    Cons:
160×120 IR sensor, must have a steady hand when taking images.

Overall, it’s ok, although I think a bit sluggish and pricey, as you can get 320×160 sensors for approx 20% cheaper (but warranty or CS is v bad apparently).

Wifi acquisition takes ages, hence to boot the thing – Only turn it on when you need to upload, otherwise it’ll spend the first 10/15 seconds waiting to acquire a wifi signal – wasted time where you can’t actually use the device.

To change the ‘spot light’ function, you need to swipe down from the top of the screen to activate it.
To change the brightness, you also need to swipe down and set it from there.

To access the images, you can’t simply connect it to a laptop, you must ‘upload’ it to the ignite.flir.com website where it will save images for you.
You get approx 1G of upload data to save.
Saving is easy, and you can select/create folders as you need, and also annotate the images as you take them.

Image is of back on one of my racks at home.

C5 - A little expensive for the price, but good overral

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI strongly recommend this product – I use it for PCB board development, electrical engineering and occasional tracing of in wall power junction location and hot water pipes. It is quite easy to get started with this camera, of course for best results a little bit of reading on IR reflection index will help a lot. You can run the camera pretty much out of the box. The install process (first time your run the camera) is a bit lengthy but that is to be expected.

A note to future owners: as with any precision equipment, if you plan to use this product professionally, I strongly recommend you look up for a firm/company that does metrological checkups – this way they can calibrate your camera – now Flir does this through their vendors and recommend you should do this every 2 years.

The camera itself is very rugged, it is made of a heave rubbery like material and the screen indents in, so if you drop it on the ground it will not break.

NOTE! The first picture is taken of the parking lot in front of my apartment at 11.30 PM (darkness). The mode is pure termal without any edges (it does not overlay the RGB picture and trace edges) – is just what the thermal camera sees. The photo is taken from the 12th floor (way beyond what Flir recommends as a shooting distance) about 50 meters from the parking lot. You can clearly see the cars with the “hot” engines.

I am quite happy with this product! I strongly recommend

    Quality and performance beyond reproach

Upgraded to this from the C2 and am very pleased with the extra clarity and features – not least the min and max temp spots. The MSX technology produces images of a clarity one might associate with cameras offering a higher resolution than the modest 160 x 120 provided. The Flir tools software provides the opportunity re-consider on-site choices once back in the office, and enables the manipulation and enhancement of saved images, An affordable must have tool for surveyors and building inspectors.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersEinfach eine gute Wrmebildkamera.

Nix.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’ve used similar thermal imaging cameras and Flir has done an excellent job on this one. A must for the home owner looking to conserve energy or contractor. Easy to use with invaluable data. You can actually see where your insulation is defficient in the summer or cold air entering in winter. I’ve used very expensive units to check heat exchangers that are begining to plug up, electrical components and many more. I don’t use the windows software since the camera can display problem areas. No issues with the C5.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt works very well and is pretty good value for money.

My only reservation is that it takes about 2 minutes to ‘warm up’ when you first switch it on. It’s not too big a deal and it warms up much quicker if it’s only been off for a couple of minutes.

I found it’s too easy to accidentally press the power switch when you’re trying to take a photo (the buttons feel the same without looking where your fingers are). This is a pain when you have to wait for it to warm up again on when you switch it on again.

I like the MSX feature of this camera it certainly helps to identify objects, I use it as an electrician and it certainly serves my needs.
They could improve on the IR sensor maybe by taking it to the same level as the sensor in the FLIR Pro used with the iPhone

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis camera is good for home use or basic commercial setting. The non thermal photo it also takes is not very clear, so if using for thermal imagine reports, I would suggest taking a second photo with a regular camera.
I would also recommend downloading the flir software for PC. (Not available for Apple) the software allows you to pick certain temp spots in the photo which is very helpful.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersDie Kamera ist i.O. jedoch ist das Akku ausgefallen.
    Zusammenbau in umgekehrter Reihenfolge.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersIt’s hard to fault this thermal camera from a surveyors point of view. It’s light and easy to carry in a pocket, has a great display and simple but effective menu structure. The MSX picture enhancement is excellent and makes this camera stand out from those that don’t have it. It works really well with FLIR tools on a PC and pdf reports are quick and easy to generate. Power is micro USB and battery life is good. FLIR documentation is also superb. On the negative side it can be tricky to press the shutter (but this is a minor inconvenience) and it is also quite expensive – hence 4 stars. It’s great for the identification of cold-bridging and water leaks and is really easy to use. Use a photographic pistol grip on serious surveys – it makes it easy and less awkward to hold the camera up and view the screen over an extended period. Delivery from Poland was superb – they promised a 2 day delivery but in fact it came within 24 hours!

The thermal camera is used for building inspections. It works well and with the flir app I can download the photos into my iPad. The only complaint I have is the boot up time is inconsistent, taking 30 seconds to a minute to boot up so I can use it. The flir E6 boots up much faster. The screen is somewhat blurry until the first calibration, then clears up. Good camera for the price.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersDo not listen to the people giving this product a 1 star review and saying the resolution is too low for this or that. 30 seconds of research will tell you what this camera will do well and what it will not do well. Why would the $650 model perform the same as the $25,000 one?

We purchased this product to identify wildlife in difficult to access areas. Mostly raccoons and squirrels in crawl spaces, attics, walls, etc. Also works well to find possible entry points.

    Attached images show:

    1) Mother raccoon and babies in an attic with no access.

    2) Mother raccoon and babies in an attic over a garage.

    3) An injured raccoon nesting under a shed.

    What is the bad?

Battery not being removable is likely to present an annoying issue at some point.

An extra $200 for the C2 that comes with a case seems steep. We purchased one of the waterproof cases with foam inside for about $40 at Canadian Tire and cut the foam to the shape of the camera.

    Great thermal imaging camera

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersA really useful product. It has help me detect leaks where there’s no evidence of one. Build quality is ok, although it feels somewhat cheap, purely due to its light weight (compared to your average smartphone).

The software is necessary, but a pain. I’ve had to reinstall it after it wouldn’t open. Then I ran into an issue with the license.

Non-thermal imaging is poor. You’re better off taking a picture with your phone.

By thermal difference displayed by the camera you can determine the location of water leak. Just keep in mind you need to cause the temperature difference by switching off the AC system, so the water will have lower temperature than the wall.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI really liked this Flir C2, it is mostly like using a camera.
    Pluses:
Easy to use as these things go…
Software add huge value, allowing photo/heat image overlay, and temp readings, and report writing.
    Portable.
Video mode. handy when looking around for problems.

    Cons:
You need to know what your doing, there are some tutorials you can watch. Not a problem for Pros, I guess.
The sensor is not high resolution, 160 by 80 or somesuch. So the infra red picture lacks detail.

The recalibration happens frequently, about every couple of seconds, which can be very inconvenient since everything freezes. I believe that is a thing with IR cameras, but I’m guessing they get better as they cost more.

Accuracy. The measurements I took for temperature were miles out. Probably related to the distance setting, which could not be changed (on my particular set, I think this was a fault). So fine at 1 metre, but the picture I supply here, at about 4 metres was inaccurate, since the ambient temperature was around 10 degrees.
Finally, the usb plug in the rubberised case was very, very difficult to insert. Again, it might have been faulty, this was a amazon warehouse “refurb” for a very good price, but I had to return it for these reasons.

Not easy to use for amateur, maybe not quite good enough for Pro.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAcquistato come usato e consegnato come nuovo.

Not sure if my product is defective or what but I frequently have to restart it because of screen freezing. Otherwise it works great.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis thermal imaging camera works fairly well, is sensitive down to partial degrees, a bit slow at times, but have found it useful in finding behind-the-wall water leaks and areas of poor insulation within walls/ceilings. Only real downside is that the camera is a rather expensive purchase for a homeowner; maybe not so much for a business that can use it more often and write it off as an expense.

The Flir C3 is a must for anyone in the restoration industry, we use it in every water damage loss. It is exactly what we needed to show our customers the areas affected. Overall a great product.

Mehrere Infrarot Farben + Temperatur lock per touchscreen, wenn man ne bestimmte erst ab einem Bestimmten Wert was finden will.

    Super Gerä

I LOVE it. this is the perfect IR camera for my home inspection business. Small, easy to use and it seems to be the most economical buy for a qualitative (and generally quantitative) IR inspection.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersMolto pratica, piatta e poco ingombrante.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersJust got mine today. It’s very light. You might think that means ‘cheap’, but I believe the quality of this product shines through.
The screen is slow to update, and you’ll be looking at about 30s for it to boot.
But it works well. The MSX technology is a definite plus.
If you’re wanting to discover the world of thermography then this product is a great introduction.
I’ve been using it round the house to test it, it’s surprising what it’s revealed.

So far so good! Looks like each item is quality checked and comes with an inspection card and signed. I’m mentioning this because the inspector didn’t wear gloves and my tool along with the box had oily fingerprints everywhere.

    Tool works great.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersNur die Datenbertragung mit WiFi will nicht. Also dann nur klassisch mit Kabel. Auch hlt der Akku nicht allzulange (max. 45min), was beim Monitoring nicht allzu ppig ist.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’m house-hunting in Spokane, WA, and my new FLIR C2 showed me some wall areas in the first home we were considering that appeared to have huge heat leaks – and judging by some missing and loose fiberglass batts along the basement sill in the mechanical room, the leaks were very “real”. Since then, we’ve looked at one or two other homes that had similar issues (like the wall behind a non-masonry gas fireplace that was leaking a lot of heat, but hadn’t been on for at least several hours).

Only minor complaints about the FLIR C2 – the power button is on the left, and it seems to take FOREVER to calibrate – and while using it, you have to stop repeatedly while it recalibrates. All in all, very handy for finding heat leaks, at least when the weather is cold.

It does as it says on the tin….. though took a while to get the software running following a web download, once running simple to work out with a little playing, I didn’t need to read the manual of x 100 pages to get going, they could do with a quick instruction guide and a tips list and save a huge trawl

I work in IT environments and this defiantly provides quickly the missing link in understand how heat needs to be managed/channeled correctly to allow adjustment and therefore providing a faster more efficient solution to cooling devices. Especially to those who have no concept of why something needs to be done but need to fund the change to then make a saving,”its always been done that way” type conversation can be very frustrating day in day out, a picture speaks a 1000 words as they say…
No doubt the same could be said in any work place where this product provides benefit/understanding by being able to see what you are talking abou

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersI bought this entry level FLIR C2 camera for the purpose of helping my daughter and son-in-law reduce their risks when buying their first home. They paid a professional home inspector $535 to inspect the $600k house they placed an offer on. But the home inspector doesn’t use thermography or even a torpedo level during his inspections. He does everything by eye. And he did a great job, but he failed to find a few things the FLIR proved embarrassing to the home seller’s general contractor who remodeled the house. Specifically, the contractor had removed a kitchen window, applied stucco over the opening outside and drywall inside, but didn’t bother to place fiberglass insulation in the bays between the studs where the window used to be. You see from the FLIR image I took that the 3′ wide area where the frig will go looks just fine to the naked eye, but the insulation is missing from the wall. Even the home inspector was impressed!

If you’re going to invest in million dollar 30-year mortgage, it’s well worth the price of this product to help you know what you’re getting into.

And he did great job, but he failed to find a few ...

FOR THE PRICE YOU JUST CAN’T GO WRONG. IT UP THERE WITH THE BIG BOYS AND HAS AN ADVANTAGE OF BEING SMALL. THE SCREEN IS BIG ENOUGH TO BE NICE AND USEFUL. IT’S TOUCH SCREEN IS EASY TO USE. THE ONLY DRAW BACK IS THERE’S NO TRIPOD MOUNT SO I HAVE MODIFIED AN MOBILE PHONE HOLDER AND USE THIS INSTEAD. OVERALL I GIVE THIS FLIR C2 5 STARS.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersResearched it online, bought it and very happy with the results. Our company uses it for inspections of equipment control panels, detecting problematic hotspots in advance. As an example of the resolution, if you press your hand against a wall for 5 sec, the camera clearly picks up the ‘heat-print’ left behind.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersIf you are a windows or mac user, plz read my 4stars as 5. This is seriously cool!
If there was a way to say 4.5 stars then I’d rate as such.

I have one grievance, and I suspect that it’s due to my unique viewpoint.
As an ece engineer (in the world of computational lithography) I work mostly in linux (as do 95% of ee/comp engs I’ve met over my career), so I will buy things [or not] dependent on OS support.

Now, I got soo excited about this product that I completely forgot to check if they support linux (and to be frank, I’m glad I didn’t check, this tool is freakn awesome).

so I’m stuck trying to hack into the gige stream using ROS (which stinks so far since I haven’t yet gotten it to work).
I don’t know why FLIR fails so in linux, I was really surprised (I’d expect more from someone who makes such a sweet tool).

    Aside from that, perfection!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSo far fantastic. I’m learning new uses by the day with this. A hint DON’T check out them OVER RATED “Low “E” replacement windows” that you have just paid a fortune to install! BUT check things like your refrige/freezer door seal for LEAKING SPOTS, these appliances run 24/7and a door seal leak can cost you over time. Ceiling fans, I had one that just seemed different than the other matching fans. Checked it and seems to have bearing problems… Chinese bearings… JUNK! Your house, I’m checking my walls around my electric service entrance… For insulation… Well it was all ok BUT AIMED this camera UP and found a completely UNINSULATED spot in “flat roof” ceiling where there is NO INSULATION between rafters! Still coming up with a resolve for that issue. Time to cut drywall since I live in AZ where these spots are critical. Check your electrical outlets and them CELL PHONE chargers, just might find a HOT ONE!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIt seems to be an effective camera for the price. The dual photos are a necessity when trying to assess specific areas of color temperatures. There are a couple big design drawbacks however. 1. The shutter release is a long embedded bar across the top of the camera. It is extremely difficult to press. Motion from trying to press it can cause pictures to blur. If you have any arthritis in your fingers it hurts like hell. 2. I have photographed my fingers quite a few times. Fingers can easily get in the way of the optical lense when one holds the camera as one would hold a normal camera. The screen shows the IR image, so there is no feedback that fingers are in the optical image.

Golden Review Award: 39 From Our UsersI’m a home inspector, and I used a much larger IR camera for several years. The larger camera has better resolution and some features this one lacks (like setting it on a tripod and taking one photo every 5 minutes, or every 30 minutes). But that is more forensics than home inspection. This one is small enough to fit in a pocket and auto-calibrates so it will get used much more frequently. This is my first FLIR, and so far I’m very happy with them. Some free online classes for the camera. I sent one question to customer service and it was answered promptly. And a ‘welcoming’ email with a phone and email if I had any questions. A lens cover would be nice, but I’m not downrating it or complaining because I read the reviews and knew it didn’t have one. I stopped at a big box store and found a suitable slip-in cover for less than $10.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersThis is a very good tool and amazingly sensitive as you’re able to see the smallest change in temperature such as a handprint after leaving it on the surface of something for as little as two seconds. It’s very handy having the thermographic image and the standard image, but there are two reasons why I haven’t given it five stars. The first is I think that the standard image should be of a higher definition The second is I believe that the lens should have some kind of protection when the camera is not being used.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersI purchased the Flir C2 for a very specific purpose. I work for a company that has several heated concrete floors, and I wanted a method of locating the floor heating hoses so holes could be drilled without causing a leak. Having seen cameras priced from $2,000.00 and up, I was afraid this low priced camera might not be up to the task. So far, it has met or exceeded my expectations. The floor heat only needed to be run for an hour or so to make the hoses all show up, making positioning the brackets I needed to fasten so that the anchor bolts would not be in the hoses. I don’t have any of the images from the camera here on my home computer, but I will add some when I get a chance.

I have attached a few of the pictures of the floor that I took on October 1, after running the floor heat for about 1 to 1-1/2 hours. I did not take as many pictures as I “looked” at the hoses when placing the stands. One thing I discovered, when looking at floor heating hose in outside concrete, look early in the morning before the sun can warm up the concrete.

    Very handy tool!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI use this to hunt ghosts as a part time job. I haven’t caught one yet but it could take a picture of one if I did. It’s better than the one Brian has. Brian is so smug with his fancy fluke thermal cam. Well now I have a better one. Take that Brian.

So far, very satisfied with the cameras performance. Only things keeping it from 5 stars is the lack of a lens cap and the inability of the end user to replace the batteries.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI have never used a thermal camera before, but I love this thing. We bought it to help seal up our drafty house and it has done wonders already in the 2 weeks I have had it. Not sure what I am going to do with it once we are done with renovations, but its paying for itself nonetheless.
