This stuff is absolutely brilliant. I did a full living room with matt emulsion, two different colours and it didnt take any paint off when removing. I was told by a pro decorater that the green one is for matt and gloss, while the yellow is more suitable for silk emulsion. Great stuff

Frog tape is by far the best tape to use for paint & decorating will definitely buy again.

Work better than I thought. Due to reviews, nervous about using on emulsion but it’s worked fine. Did use it on gloss door edge and it took my gloss off but the edge is good and better than if done by hand.

Yes it’s a bit expensive, but I ended up buying three rolls because it’s so good. It does give perfect, straight, lines as long as not trying to mask a rough edge. I had no problems removing it. It did expose weaker old paint, which sometimes came off, but that wasn’t the tape’s fault. Paint doesn’t get under, it doesn’t get soggy, and it peals off easily if careful. Great tape.

This tape is a must when decorating and painting. The paint block shield is incredible and it honestly does an amazing job! Easy to apply, blocks paint and easy to remove. Leaves no tacky mess either.

I had 64 small windows to rub down and paint. I spend a hour or so masking up with Frog Tape – The Painting was a breeze and the tape came off easily, left straight lines and saved hours of Back Breaking `Cutting-i

I don’t know if premium masking tape was a thing, but ever since trying Frog Tape I’m convinced it’s a far better product. For all I know other brands have improved, I’m happy to pay for something I know will work. And if you are used to using tape from your local pound shop, this is a revelation. It did take off some paint from the ceiling, but since I always intended to repaint the ceiling that didn’t bother me, and there is the delicate stuff if you want that instead. Only thing I would advise is to check the width, and make sure you’re getting the tape you want.

This was superb with no paint leaking through compared to others we’ve used. Easy to use but you do need to be careful as it can and will peel some of your paint if you apply it over previously painted areas.

Managed to get a really nice professional finish with this – despite being a very amateur painter!
Highly recommended for doing a paint feature wall.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersI used this masking tape in a hobby guitar build project of a Brian May Red Special guitar. Specifically for masking the inside of the guitar body when staining and lacquering and when dressing the frets after levelling. I chose the delicate surface version to minimise the risk of ripping out parts of the wood grain. I’m pleased to say that this didn’t happen so the tape did its job as advertised.

    Excellent General Purpose Masking Tape

Love this, wish I’d have used this before. Very easy to put on the wall or ceiling. I used it in sections that overlapped as recommended, it sticks well and comes off like a dream (whilst paint is still wet) I did have slight bleeding in a couple of places but being the first time I used it maybe I didn’t push it down hard enough as I was worried about the paintwork underneath. I needn’t have worried!

Works well, haven’t really had chance to test out the stretching properties as the items I was painting were too small, keeps great sharp lines when spray painting

This is a really excellent product. I have used various masking tapes over the years and this is upped the game massively. Easy to apply, easy to peel off. It allows clean lines which don’t bleed and when you take it off it doesn’t take off whatever it was stuck to. I won’t use another masking tape after this.

The only the thing I would recommend is I was using chalk paint and when I put it on for when I wanted to do wood stain area it pulled off the paint in areas – but would still recommend, easy to use and it has stretch

I’m not normally one for leaving reviews and was dreading attempting painting lines across my walls and ceiling, but this tape is superb. The lines are arrow straight and no paint seepage. If you need to paint a straight line this tape is a must. Just make sure you follow the instructions. I did a little bit of tape at a time and removed it straight away.

Started painting our hallway and used some existing but old masking tape which was alright but was tearing paint off the ceiling when removing and had a reasonable amount of paint bleeding through.

Frog tape eliminates both issues. As long as you’re careful when applying it you get very little to no bleedthrough and it comes off a lot easier than the masking tape and has left the ceiling paint in place.

Used this for cutting in from wall to ceiling when painting our bedroom, really good perfect lines and peels off easily. To note if you use cheap emulsion or a emulsion/water primer it does/can pull off the paint it’s fairly strong. I always use a pre made primer which is thick and a decent Matt/silk paint no problems.

Excellent product which is easy to apply and remove after use. It is more expensive than cheaper masking tapes but is worth paying extra as it is stronger and leaves a straighter line after painting.

It sticks rather well with minimal paint bleed, though you’re best to get a good run at it rather than taping small sections. The tape sticks really well, but only if it’s nice clean and completely dry surfaces. I made the mistake of taping freshly painted walls (leaving after 3 full days) only to find that it took the paint with it upon removal. I later tried the yellow version to find the same result. Anyways, after much trial and error I found that the green tape is great for sectioning off your skirtings, then using basic masking tape on top of the skirtings (after 48hrs) to then do your walls. Best of luck, DIYers!

This is great tape. The adhesion is sticky enough to stay in place while working but not so sticky that you can’t pull it off easily. It does just come straight back off without leaving any glue behind. I don’t try and stretch it or I don’t think it would work as well keeping a clean edge while painting and there is not so much give in the tape that a stretch would happen where I wouldn’t want it. I won’t be going back to masking tape!

Very useful product. Much better than standard masking tape. I have been using this a lot recently to mask edges of window frames I have been varnishing. Goes on easily, and pulls off without a problem – and main benefit is that paint & varnish don’t seem to stick to it – even when leaving paint/varnish to dry for much longer than I would risk with normal masking tape, when frog taped peeled off it leaves a good, sharp, clean line.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersAmazing quality and does the job just as described. Bought this to do a feature wall in my daughters room. I work in construction and I do a lot of painting from time to time. Even at that cutting in 2 different colours on a corner is never an easy task. This was my first time using this tape and the results were amazing. Perfect straight lines after I removed the tape.

    Tips:

Take your time putting on the tape, dont rush it or it will show after painting.

Tear the tape in small strips such as 8-10 inches, I know this seems stupid but if you tear the tape in 18-24 inch lengths it is a lot harder to apply and keep straight. Its a few more minutes but definitely worth it.

Peel off tape immediately after painting as the paint can dry on the tape and when you peel it, it can pull the paint.

I put tape on the ceiling as well and a little bit of paint came off but I just touched it up with white emulsion.

Great quality product, amazing results when used correctly.

As a bit of a perfectionist in the decorating area I had great difficulty getting straight lines near the edges on the ceilings. I used masking tape and rulers initially and it was just a waste of time. I then did a bit of research and found frog tape. I was a bit dubious at first as I was worried it would pull the paint away but thought ill just give it a go. I’m so glad I did, I was pleasantly surprised by the how good it was. Worth every penny in my opinion. My bathroom has near perfect lines and no paint was pulled off when removing the tape. Brilliant product.

Brought a professional finish to the painting of my coving. Used to hate trying to follow the line by hand and always made a mess. Fixed the tape about 1/8″ below the coving and painted it not worrying when my brush overlapped the tape. Left it about 10 mins and then peeled it off downwards and across. Didn’t pull any of the wall paint off underneath. Same process for painting the wall only the other way round. Fantastic product.

    Just brillia

At first I thought this was just clever marketing and my 50p masking tape could do the same job – was wrong. I needed to tape off various bits off a wall to do a geometric style painting job. The lines we’re crisp with no paint bleed which I got with the masking tape a few days earlier. I was even asked if it was wallpaper when the job was done, which shows the quality of the line it leaves.

I’ll be using this for all painting jobs moving forward. Worth the money for a job done right first time.

Clean lines and no bleeding what so ever, so exactly what we needed.

The roll was covered in fine dust on arrival but didn’t cause any problems to the use or adhesive ness of the product.

The tape could be stretched if needed and we were able to move positions with it if we changed our minds.

Golden Review Award: 30 From Our UsersI usually go for the mega cheap, three-for-a-quid, masking tape, and wonder why I get rubbish results. My son saw this geometric wall painting pattern on Tik Tok and wanted to do it. Frog tape had been recommended and so that’s what we used.

You can tell the quality straight away. It went onto a wall I’d repainted a few days before and I used a small wallpaper roller to get as good a seal as possible. We removed the tape 5 – 10 mins after painting. It came off really well leaving a sharp line and no annoying tearing like the cheap stuff does. Of our geometric wall paint there are just two small areas of bleed which is a shame, but it could have been a slight blemish on the wall.

    Highly recommended.

Never buying the generic stuff again...

  51. LeomaCPAxxooiq says:

Used this on a variety of surfaces and I know understand which ones are perfect to put on and take off and those to avoid:

    Good:
    Matt walls
    Skirting boards
    Other wood surfaces

    Bad:
Walls that use bathroom paint / kitchen paint (those that are classed as ‘easy to wipe’ – all these surfaces, the tape tears the paint off the walls and on occassions will not stay stuck to the walls so you end up painting through the bleed
Wallpaper – depends on the thickness

I deducted the one star for using this on the bathroom walls (where edge meets ceiling) and it made a complete mess by taking the paint off – so I had to then alter and put the tape on the ceiling to paint the walls again where the tape ripped the paint!!

    Overall a good buy

I have just redecorated my flat and used this product throughout the project. It done exactly as I expected it too, very adhesive great for doing skirtings and keeping your carpets paint free. I went through many roles and had no issues with any of them. They were easy to apply and also to take off, didn’t take any paint or did it leave a sticky residue behind on the surfaces i applied it to (Wood, Walls , doors and Carpets). I would defiantly recommend.

I use this for painting, but not as the manufacturers intended. I do gouache and airbrush paintings on heavyweight paper and use this to hold the paper securely in place on a large drawing board, for which it is superb as it eventually comes away without damaging the paper. I have in the past used it for masking whilst house decorating and can verify that is does an excellent job of that too.

Always used masking tape, never will I ever again, this stuff is the bomb, placed right when painting, glossing skirtings ect, cuts down painting time loads and actually makes it enjoyable. I did drip paint onto the tape multiple times and it didn’t seep through, when initially placing the tape I did think it didn’t feel thick enough so did worry but when removed, lines were straight nothing was ruined! And it looked like I knew what I was actually doing! Brilliant stuff will always use this now

Amazing. Done the job I wanted it for. Which was to experiment and do some pattern painting on a wall. It stuck fine doesn’t seap through. But make sure when you stick it down run ur hands across its not a miracle worker you have to press over with your hand or some edges won’t stick itself. The tape was wider than I expected but that’s because I didn’t look at sizing. However it created a great look so I’m happy. You get alot. With the patter I did I then did it on another large wall and had enough. So a 4mtre long wall and this 1 metre wall. (in width). Good price aswell

I had a lot of skirting boards and facings to paint so bought a lot of this tape. Quite easy to work with, but on a (very) few occasions when I removed it, it took some of the paint off the wall as well. It was a nuisance as I then had to refresh the paint on the wall!

Had some standard masking tape that would not for the love of god stick to the surface (while laminate top) but this stuff was brill, stuck well, didn’t allow any bleed of silicone (black silicone onto a white top is risky, and visible)

This tape does the job well. It sticks as it should to all surfaces I’ve tried and is easy enough to remove. Can’t miss it either with its bright green colour.

It comes in a very nice plastic case, which does seem to be a bit excessive for a roll of masking tape and possibly adds to the price.

This is the only downside to the tape. It is a little pricey. Having said that, I couldn’t find it cheaper and will probably buy it again next time I have a painting job to do.

  71. MalissaHooten says:

Didn’t have any problems with this tape. You do have to get a good seal to avoid paint bleed, I found this out by trial and error! It suggests removing when the paint is wet which worked well. I was generally pleased with the result as I am usually a bit of a duffer with things like this.

I purchased this as part of a remodel of my bedroom and I initially purchased some painters tape from a nearby DIY store and it led to paint coming off the walls. I was recommended to try frog tape and was initially suspicious about it’s claims but it was by the best product I purchased. Strong adhesion, easy to peel and the result was strong clear lines. If you have concerns about paint peeling then it’s best to purchase this product or the low tack frog tape which I haven’t tried but it’s recommended for delicate walls.

Straight lines were never my forte when painting; then I discovered Frog Tape. It takes time to set up of course and if you have a very steady hand it’s probably pointless. However my results have made it essential in this household when painting to an edge. GREEN tape onto cured paint, wood or PVC. YELLOW tape if the surface was painted between a couple of days and a couple of weeks ago. Great stuff – forget masking tape for this job.

Gives a really clean line and doesn’t let paint seep through plus leaves no sticky residue! Remember to peel off before the paint dries so it doesn’t take any paint off with it and removing at a 45 angle really helps! Best tape I could find and have used, I wouldn’t look anywhere else as this is perfect!

I’d love to give it high marks as it helped us get impeccable edges on the paint. However on the smallest job – doing the resealing of the kitchen counter, it fobbed up so bad, I had a meltdown over it.
Stuck it over the paint which had a week to dry. When we applied the sealant and peeled it off it took all the nice new paint with it. It was horrendous.
Do not put it over your new paint even if week old! It will give you sad!
    Otherwise good to use.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersThis stuff is 100 times better than the awful ordinary paper-like masking tape.
I used it for painting a front door with 8 long strips of glass. Four larger strips to the top and Four shorter to the bottom half.
Took me a while to stick it all in place but wow!! well worth it when the paint dries and you take it off. There was no bleed at all and no paint penetrated the tape.
This was the first time I have ever used this and it will not be the last.
I thought I would be using all the tape but it looks like it is still a new roll.
I fully recommend this to any professional painter or DIY’er.

Golden Review Award: 62 From Our UsersI ran out of masking tape while decorating and with no time to get the shop, I needed next day/prime delivery. I was reluctant to buy cheap masking tape without seeing it so chose the more expensive option based on fairly good reviews. I’m pleased I did!

I used this to protect my amtico floor while glossing skirting boards. (Please note that the product states this is meant to be used for EMULSION paint and can have unpredictable results if used with gloss – but i was prepared to take the risk.)
I got a nice neat edge and no paint seemed to seep through. Much better than the masking tape I used the night before!

I will be using this to protect the newly glossed skirting and get a straight edge when emulsioning the walls.
In fact I will, from now on, only ever use this when I come to decorate anything.

Comes in a plastic tub, which at first I thought was unnecessary packaging, but actually it’s good for when I stored it away with the decorating kit and I’m sure it’ll keep the tape from drying out.
I think the green tape is brilliant and wortb paying the extra for (over cheap masking tape) anyway.

Update: having bought (and reviewed) the green multisurface variety, I ordered the yellow tape for newly painted surfaces.
Oh dear. I would never advise anyone to use it on emulsioned walls or ceilings. I was painting a wall so used this on the adjacent wall that had been painted for 3 days and the ceiling that had been painted 10 years.
The tape was on for under an hour.
It took off lots of the paint when I removed it. I could touch up the newly painted adjacent wall because I still had that paint, but try matching paint to a white ceiling that has aged 10 years!! I can not face doing the entire ceiling so will have to live with new whiter patches, so that’s a big disappointment.

I did get a really straight edge though.

So maybe it’s best to use this on edges but then accept you might need to touch up just In from the edge when you peel off the tape.

It’s possible that it’s ok if your room is very warm – mine was quite cold. Id read the hairdryer tip but didn’t think it would be necessary in less than an hour.

Absolutely love this tape, it ensures you get a nice straight edge on all your rooms when it comes to decorating. It is just right when it comes to tack so your not taking pieces of your fresh wall off just get the ceiling done and vice versa.

This tape does have a superb second feature for me though and that is it is ideal for 3D Printer Beds. Alot of people out there are using the 3M Blue tape, however this serves a much better function. Its ideal in terms of tack, its just rough enough to ensure things stick and add PVA Glue Stick and the results are second to none.

Also if you find that some prints your having the tape peel and stick to the bottom a quick rinse under the tap and its gone. Its wide enough to ensure your not using loads of it as well. I envisage this roll will last 2-3 months with regular printing. Definitely worth spending a tad more for the results you get.

    Highly Recommended.

I haven’t been incentivised to write this review but I’m sure everyone else says the same thing – why buy any other masking tape. Surely Frog tape has sorted all the old annoying problems with tape – too sticky – destroys what it’s attached to, not sticky enough – falls off or is worse than useless, too weak – tears too easily or tears along the length when your taking it off the roll, too hard – seapage underneath. This has sorted it all and despite there being different varieties for different purposes, this is universal!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGood old frog tape, great quality used to put up grad ball decorations in a hotel venue as we didnt want to pull paint off. Also used to wrap my daughters shoe, high heel back on as it snapped within one hour of wearing at the ball . It looked more like a vivienne westwood design by the time we had wrapped it around and reinforced it with duck tape just to get her to the car.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI have used cheap making tape before and it cost me so much time as it lifted the paint off. If anyone has had this before it is an absolute pain as you end up having to cut the damaged paint out and sanding filling for a decent finish.

With this tape the tackiness is considerably lower so it lifts off easily. I do find it better if doing multiple coats to lift the tape off between each coat so that paint does not dry and form a skin over the tape. Whilst this does use considerably more tape the cost is insignificant compared to the time if the pint cracks.

Buying on amazon is great because price was comparable and meant saving considerable time trekking to my local diy store

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersYes it’s much more expensive than standard masking tape. But it much better too, and the rolls are long and last ages. Cheap tape tears as you pull it off the roll, thing doesn’t. It sticks well but also peels off well without leaving anything behind. It’s just better and I don’t bother buying anything else now I’ve tried this. I think it’s totally worth the extra.

I like the product, however the sae of this was incorrect as it showed the box of tape, however when it arrived it is only 1 x roll which the supplier is charging 25 for, this can be purchased less than halve the cost. So ensure to check clearly the actual amount that you’re purchasing. 1 x roll should not cost 25….

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAmazing stuff, really did the trick when painting my whole house. Ordered 7 of these now and would definitely recommend. It is pretty much just green masking tape, we ran out at one point and resorted to standed masking tape which is extremely hard to get a neat line against white ceilings and magnolia walls. Slightly expensive for what it is but it gave me great lines and saved 100’s if i had of hired a painter!

Its relatively expensive but is easier to apply and does a better masking job than conventional tape. Be very careful with delicate surfaces though as this Frogtape has a strong adhesive. If you are applying onto a surface that you are not sure about try the version for delicate surfaces instead.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery good for cutting in and keeping neat lines. Doesn’t adhere too well to eg the bath (but it doesn’t claim to) but otherwise I thought this stuff was pretty magic, and I wouldn’t want to go back to masking tape. Left no residue and came away very easily. Good bit of kit.

5 stars for actually working as masking tape… lost one star because it comes in a pointless plastic box which is only there to justify the exorbitant price tag. This is EXACTLY the same as the blue decorators tape available in all USA hardware and DIY stores which costs $1.50 a roll. Sadly, in the UK all the other masking tape is utter cr@p so you have to buy this stuff.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is a great product for a superior neat finish to any paintwork. If you’re worried about hitting the wrong parts when decorating this is for you.

It’s similar to masking tape however is designed to not pull off paint when removed, it doesn’t have the sticky thick adhesive/glue.

I used this both above and beneath the skirting around the rooms when we were redecorating and it worked a treat.

You have to make sure the tape it removed at the correct time, ie. before the paint drys/hardens
