As someone who takes a folding bike onto public transport I didn’t like the fact that the standard sized helmets were so bulky

This folding design is much easier to put into my bag as well as being sturdier than the normal cheap brands
Price wise you are paying a lot for the sturdiness and collapsible design

The one thing I found to be niggling was the strap being a bit rigid under the chi

Being a more mature bike rider, I wanted a subtle helmet and not a garish, black would be nice .

This one fit the bill. Its light, comfy and easily adjustable.

The helmet is overall built to a decently good standard, black looks nice and all straps are well built and securely fitted.

Well engineered and good quality helme

I have to admit that I am no bicycle helmet expert, in fact the last time I rode my bike was around 20 years ago. And yes, I still have it. In fact I’m embarrassed to say, it took me a while to work out which way round to wear this. Priced at 150 I thought to myself that this must be something extra special?

When this arrived, I found the helmet was supplied with a tough storage bag keeping it safe and clean. Also included was an extra velcro strap and a couple of pads, the pads I believe are to be placed inside the helmet for extra comfort.

My first impression was that this helmet looks extremely well made and super tough. If I were to fall head first onto a hard surface then I would want to be wearing one of these, the protection this provides is impressive. You could literally throw this from a cliff top and it would not be damaged, it really is that strong. The padding used in the helmets construction is called Enkayse material, it’s very tough indeed, it is a thick rubber like material that has a small amount of give.

The inner area of the helmet is moulded to fit the shape of your head, it has a large moulded block on the rear which can be adjusted to fit different head sizes. The straps are made from a thick woven nylon material that again is super tough and highly unlikely to fail. The straps have quick release clasps and adjusters which are not too large to be uncomfortable. I was pleased to find that the outside of the helmet is also well protected, the complete outer surface has a thick layer of a heavy woven nylon material. This outer layer should protect the helmet and wearer even if after a fall the head were to be sliding along the road. Not nice to think about but it happens, and could cause serious injury, but if wearing this helmet, that risk is vastly reduced.

I have never worn a bicycle helmet and probably never will as I no longer ride a bike, but I do know the serious injuries that can be inflicted from a minor fall up to a major accident. In my opinion this helmet offers the best protection from injury if that were to occur. Yes, 150 is a lot of money to fork out, but in this case I would say this is worth every penny. If I buy something for my personal protection, then I want the best that is available.

    Highly recommended!

The Mrs and I have started cycling more and going further away involves using the roads, and safety is very important so it was time to pick up a helmet.

The last time i had a bicycle helmet was about 20 years ago and i am amazed at how the technology has changed. I remember them being hot, clunky and uncomfortable. This is none of that.

The helmet is comprised of several seperate sections that are strapped together to allow the helmet to get the perfect shape to fit you. When i read about this i was skeptical, but after fitting and strapping in to it, i can say that it works fantastically to get a secure fit and be comfortable. You can also fold the helmet in on itself for easy storage. There are more extensive straps that cross over the back of the head also so it stays stable.

Materials. The main impact protection is from their patented Enkayse material. Instead of the standard polystyrene that when it gets hit is done, this stuff will expand again. So in theory this should be reusable even after an impact. The inside layer is medical grade coating to discourage bacteria. The outside has balistic grade nylon, so it will be very tough. There are also several m3 reflective parts that work verry well. Just in case you didn’t see the high vis yellow.

Adjustment. The main adjustment is the big velcro patch at the back. Undo it and the helmet can open and close in on itself to mould around your head, close the velcro and it is very secure. There’s straps that cross over the back of the head and come down in front of the ear to then join by a ratchet buckle. Just pull the cord and the ratchet releases. Which is very nice. The syraps are nylon and work very well. The ratchet buckle is plastic.

Comfort. This is a very comfortable helmet with lots of ventilation, and the inner medical grade coating (feels rubbery) also sits nicely and discourages bacteria. There was some padding already inside but they include extra strips if you need them. This helmet is very light so you could easily wear this all day.

Looks. It’s high vis yellow, love it! There are other designs but i love my bright colours.

This id not a cheap helmet but it is definately worth it, and in theory could last a life time. Great bit of kit.

Lightweight adjustable to any size, a very clever and safe desig

Ok. So the elephant in the room, it’s expensive. I hesitated for a year before buying. I think this could be the only and best helmet you can buy and ever need, IF, like me you own a folding bike or travel with your bike. Being able to fold the helmet small and also not worry about it getting damaged in transit is a huge bonus. It is a heavy helmet but it is comfortable. This is my go-to helmet when I’m heading out the door on errands etc. I still have my road helmerband I still have my MTB helmet. The Hedkayse hasn’t replaced either of them but it has found and earned its place.

First off, I am not a helmet expert. In fact, I have resisted using one up until this point because (in my opinion) they look a bit “look at me” and feel uncomfy. Well after having to buy one (nurse says), I chose the hedkayse. My opinion has changed. Feels great on, very comfy, and not sore on the eye. A bit of reassurance feels great too. Expensive, yes, but I am happy to have chosen this one, if only so that I don’t look for excuses not to wear it.

    Reassuring and Comfortable

Bought for my daughter (in 40s). She has a small head and wanted a foldable cycle helmet. Tried others but really didn’t suit her. Her reaction to this one… “I love it!!! It’s better than I could have hoped for or chosen… incredible.”

It’s hard to know until one falls but the helmet feels very robust and secure. Very different to the usual polystyrene inners that seem less forgiving and liable to be useless after you drop the helmet. This isn’t a scientific review, though there are some on YouTube. I have a lot of helmets, some from Ribcap which I also rate (they use a non Newtonian material). I’m not young and I skateboard, so I’m pretty careful. And I think this helmet is worth every penny. And the reflective cover useful too. Very high quality.

This is a great looking cycle helmet with a very comfortable fit. The folding function is great for stowage and travelling. It feels absolutely safe and secure adding to my cycling confidence on road and trail.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAs a cyclist and regular commuter to London, I am always looking for reliability in the equipment that gets me from a to b. I was slightly apprehensive as the Hedkayse helmet is nothing like my road helmet, however this has changed how I think about cycle helmets, Hedkayse is like my work boots, my aero helmet are my trainers. When in the city I wear Hedkayse as it’s tough and forgiving. It’s definitely not for long distances at speed, but I feel reassuringly safe. Plus the hand feel is like nothing i’ve seen in a helmet before. It FEELS safer.

    Cleverly engineered, superb quality.

I have bought this helmet for my nephew who is now cycling to school everyday. Not only is it lightweight, he can put it in his school bag and it doesn’t matter if it gets knocked around, he’ll still be safe. It is also adjustable so will continue to fit him. I would definitely recommend.

Super comfy helmet which moulds to your head the longer you wear it. I love the fact it’s soft and recovers after knocks and drops, I can throw it in the boot of my car and don’t have to worry about it getting damaged! Great purchase, would definitely recommend above any previous helmet I’ve used

I normally ride MTB across trails etc and having a helmet that I can sling around in the back of the car or drop it time and time again when stopping off at a watering house… This helmet is worth its weight in gold!
The comfort is second to non… With warmth the helmet shapes comfortably to your head.
Also there are many adjustments too to get the perfect fit.
Colour options are amazing too, go crazy and pick your colour.
I really think this helmet may outlive me! Top job guys!

I ride in the woods local to me and on the roads into town. This helmet is perfect for me, it’s super comfortable and fits really well so great on dirt trails (can confirm it provides great protection too!). And the it folds up into my bag when I need it to. I definitely recommend this helmet.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAs a commuter in central London I use a range of bikes from foldaways to rentals. To have a helmet which I can fit in my rucksack is very useful. I have found this helmet to be very reliable and most importantly comfortable. Very pleased, would highly recommend.
