If you like hitman/stealth games you will love this i love the fact i can put my hitman 1 and 2 games into this with the PS5 graphics probably my favourite in the series
For this review, I’ve broken down what I think you’ll find useful into smaller sections – so you can either read all of my waffle, or just go to the heading that helps you the most:
The Game (intro / improvements / issues):
I love the Hitman series, albeit I’m relatively new to the world as I’ve only played this recent trilogy as opposed to the many iterations released before.
For those unfamiliar, the Hitman series offer small sandbox levels, a handful of targets and many ways to kill said targets – it’s a lot of fun discovering the various diabolical ways to eliminate someone and IOI deserve a lot of credit for packing so much detail into their worlds – ironically enough, even though you play the levels so many times, the Hitman series is less repetitive than say the Assassin’s Creed series, as you can approach each level in a variety of ways as opposed to just go here, collect that and return to quest giver.
I wouldn’t really say that Hitman 3 is better than 1 and 2, as they all have some fantastic levels, however, the improvements in graphics and interface are definitely noticeable especially on a PS5. For example, you’ve always had to hold the trigger halfway when taking a sniper shot to steady your aim – but in Hitman 3 this is much easier on the PS5 due to the adaptive triggers. On the downside, the game does not really take advantage of the PS5’s SSD as loading times still drag (in fact, I found it took longer sometimes than the PS4 version of the first two games) also, this latest iteration lacks the polish of the first 2 games I’ve never experienced crashes or performance issues previously, but Hitman 3 has a number of issues that have been documented online for quite some time now (i.e. music and speech cut offs; loosing connectivity at the end of a level) – these have yet to be rectified which is a shame as the game has been out a reasonable time.
The aforementioned points aside, if you’ve never played a Hitman game, I really would recommend this if you’re a fan of the sandbox genre – the story is entertaining with plenty of twists, the graphics are really good and the gameplay is a lot of fun. In addition, this is the first version that has a Platinum Trophy and there are no co-op trophies (which was a plus for me) that being said, I did miss the sniper levels from Hitman 2.
Personally, I truly have enjoyed this new Hitman series, and I’m looking forward to the new 007 game IOI are making.
Short Breakdown of Levels:
-Dubai, UAE: great level which is a lot of fun and introduces the new mechanics of the game (i.e. the camera and shortcuts)
-Dartmoor, England: the standout level of this game (and perhaps the whole trilogy) in my opinion. The developers tried something new by introducing a murder mystery to solve, and this was a lot of fun
-Berlin, Germany: another really great level set in a warehouse with a nightclub theme
-Chongqing, China: whilst this is a fun level, I felt this stepped slightly out of Hitman territory story wise, and I wasn’t a fan of the futuristic parts (love sci-fi, but it felt out of place in this game)
-Mendoza, Argentina: back to another great level, if not slightly smaller than others in the game
-Carpathian Mountains, Romania: the smallest and least Hitman like level I’ve played – very short and linear. That’s not to say it’s a bad level, in fact, it brings the game to a conclusion quite well, but it’s still my least favourite (easy challenges though)
Transfer of Hitman 1&2 progress to Hitman 3:
Unlike the transfer of Hitman 1 to Hitman 2, which wasn’t straightforward, the transfer to Hitman 3 is pretty easy as long as you have the games in question and an IOI account. I played Hitman 1 and 2 on a PS4 and I purchased Hitman 3 for the PS5, I can confirm the transfer still works (it only doesn’t if you go from say a Playstation to an xBox). Everything seems to transfer, i.e. score, unlocked outfits and weapons etc., and most importantly Trophies, with the exception of the Sniper Score and Silent Assassin trophies for each of the 3 sniper levels (so 6 trophies in total have to be earned again) – this wasn’t an issue to me as I really got into the Sniper game after a while and so didn’t mind playing the levels again. More frustratingly, you have to earn all the prologue trophies again, as these have been added to the Hitman 3 list this surprises me as whilst I get they want an introduction for new players, I don’t see why all of the trophies needed to be regurgitated for those who have completed the prologue many times this is pretty tedious! (It’s for this reason alone that I’ve given the game 4 stars instead of 5).
Transfer of Hitman 1 progress to Hitman 2:
This may not be relevant to all reading this, but just to advise that if (like me) you received Hitman 1 free via PS Plus a few years back, this can still be transferred into Hitman 2 (and thus into Hitman 3). That being said, it’s not the most user friendly transfer and you have to ensure you have both games downloaded to your system first – there are plenty of videos online explaining how to do it though. Please note, the trophies earned within Hitman 1 do not transfer over to Hitman 2, which as much as I love the game, does make Hitman 2 a chore!
Got this while it was on offer, I find it great fun but at times frustrating, but overall if you previously have played the hitman games then this is worth getting!
Hitman 3 was a fantastic experience especially if your like me and played the previous games in the world of assassination trilogy in Hitman 3 by either buying the dlc for the previous games campaigns or owning the previous games though it can be quite costly so I’d wait for them to go on some kind of sale
Purchased from Game and apart from Resident Evil Village Collectors Edition I’m going to have to stop purchasing games on launch day, they drop in price too quickly. Anyway Hitman 3 doesn’t stray far from what made the original and sequel so good. It looks incredible on next generation hardware. Mumbai, Santa Fortuna Colombia and Isle of Sgail were my favourites in the sequel but the rave in an abandoned power plant in Berlin and the extravagant estate set in Dartmoor English countryside may be the best in the series.
Dubai just feels like a tutorial and I haven’t explored Mendoza enough to appreciate it but I will as I have actually been there. The level in China, Chongqing looks brilliant with the neon lights reflecting in puddles of rain but again I haven’t explored it enough to appreciate it but it reminds me of Sapienza due to its multiple levels/floors. The final level on a moving train could be considered the weak link just because how good the other locations are. Agent 47 finally embraces technology and gets a smart phone but apart from using it to unlock windows in the tower in Dubai I have literally never used it again. I re-bought the sequel as it allows you to access the other destinations with the Hitman 3 disk in.
Could be considered short with only six levels but these are densely packed intricately detailed labyrinthine style levels with multiple ways to approach each objective which I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring. Kudos to I O Interactive and would strongly recommend.
Probably the darkest Hitman story to date. A good ending to a trilogy of games that have been made over the last 5 years. IOI have reinvented the Hitman series and taken some inspiration from the earlier Blood Money game. My only gripe, is that in this third installment, you can only kill targets using 3 stories per level The previous games had at least 4 stories per character kill. I felt short changed by this, but there are always new accident kills to find when replaying each level.
I hope to see Agent 47 in more games soon, after IOI have released the James Bond game.
Been playing cod since launch, Spider-Man games were ok but didn’t really grab me.
Really pleased I decided to buy hitman 3 not having played others was unsure but graphics and game are great it’s very immersive and a huge amount of things to do.
So glad I bought i
Great way to end the new trilogy, and lead into the IO team making a new Bond game. It feels more like you’re James Bald, but has some great level themes that feel a little different to usual.
Great game, having owned every hitman game I was bound to enjoy it. Is it similar to the last 2 games? Well yeah, that’s like complaining CoD or Fifa is too. The missions and locations are great and added bits keep the gameplay fresh with multiple ways to infiltrate and assassinate giving great replay value. Graphics are great on the PS5, and owning the last 2 gave me the option to add the levels to this one which is a bonus (I had just installed hitman 2 to my PS5, and you have to access the download via that game) The PS4 download code you get its so you can play it in VR as VR is class as backwards compatible for PS5, so unfortunately if you want the option to play VR you have to also install the PS4 version too (the code will only work on ps5). The only issue really is the messing about installing multiple games and copies to unlock the extra features, this could have been simpler and taken less time. Overall I am enjoying the game and recommend it to fans of the series.
I have read some reviews about the game and one of them is about how it looks completely the same as the previous two hitman games. Well it is but I didn’t seem to mind about it as the games, including Hitman 3 has their own unique style, allowing the players to come up with different methods. This is what I love about the hitman games, find lots of ways to eliminate your target, even though there are times where I screwed up and had to go gun blazing. This game could have been a masterpiece but once I was in the game, there were already problems.
The story is unforgettable and to me a masterpiece. The story of the trilogy is about 47 and Diana trying to take down an organisation. And after playing two games, I was so excited to play the finale of this trilogy. You know what it didn’t disappoint. IOI said that this game will be darker than the previous two and it is. At first when I was playing the first mission, I thought it’s the same all Hitman. But it was until the end of the second mission when things aren’t going well. This was when I realised the story is indeed coming to a close. While it not only references the previous two Hitman games, it also references the older Hitman games before it, including the underrated Hitman Absolution. The final two missions reminded me of Blood Money when Diana ‘betrays’ you and you wake up and go on a killing spree. The final mission allowed me to eliminate everyone and I was like, hell yes. This story is the best in the trilogy and I will remember as the one that ended it all.
Originally, I was about to criticise the short length but the good thing that IOI did was that they allowed me to import levels from Hitman 1 and Hitman 2 into Hitman 3, thus allowing me to play the whole trilogy while taking advantage of the Dualsense features. It may not have 4k resolution but that didn’t really bother me as the game is still beautiful.
The only problem I had with this game is its online function. The game can still be played offline but whenever I want to play online just to level up and gain more skills in this game, it would crash, saying connection failed or the server isn’t working. That annoyed the hell out of me. I wanted to play the game while taking advantage of its online features but instead, crashes came up. There would even be times where I would have to replay a mission again because of the connection problem. And oh boy, it’s not my internet’s fault, it’s just that the game is refusing the online treatment. Good thing Hitman 3 didn’t turn out to be some Cyberpunk 2077 problem.
This game is good. I would have called it a masterpiece but because of the bugs, connection crashes, I would see the game as amazing.
If you’re a fan of the first two games you will love this. That being said if you didn’t like those games there is very little here that will change your mind.
The hitman in my opinion will always be Blood Money, not sure why but it is. Absolution was a step in the wrong direction. The World of Assassination trilogy has very much been a return to form with vast sandboxes which offer hours of replay ability.
I’d have liked to have got this on PS5 for the 4K 60fps but like most I’ve not managed to get hold of one. It runs beautifully on the PS4 Pro.
In short if you like hitman you’ll enjoy this, if you didn’t then I’m not sure why you’re reading reviews for the 3rd game in the trilogy.
Brilliant game. First Hitman game I’ve bought in about 15 years.
Good variety of maps, great graphics, interesting story and plenty of replayability. Ignore other reviews – “same old same old” – it’s a sequel so it is going to be more of the same. And developers did not say you could play Ps5 version on Ps4 or download ps4 version with Ps5 disc
Absolutely brilliant game, so much variety and approach to every mission. Game looks absolutely stunning on PS5 and runs at a consistent 60fps. Game also makes good use of the haptic triggers with the guns and new camera feature. If you enjoyed the first 2 games, this just builds upon them and definitely recommend
Always been a massive fan of Hitman and this 3rd instalment in the trilogy is the best by far
Graphics : on playstation 5 unfortunately you don’t get a native 4k like Xbox series x but don’t let that put you off it still looks absolutely stunningly beautiful at 1800p
Frame rate : runs at a perfect 60 on ps5 with dips on the xbox series x
Duelsense controller: feels amazing with the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers while of course the Xbox series x don’t have this at all
Levels: massive and vast.. Big open areas full of details and hidden areas and items. Really well thought out
Final thoughts… Hitman is a continuation of if it’s not broke don’t fix it, well adding on what they have build since the 2016 Hitman. If you have not liked the Hitman games before.. This won’t do anything for you still.. But if you have been a fan of the series.. This is a must PLAY 9.5/10
Arrived fast and in great condition.
Pro’s
-Great amount of levels
-Great amount of add ons
-Game play is excellent
Con’s
-Add on can be expensive
I love this game best one for a good while
