Went together fine, seems quite sturdy, BUT, T
    this toy is extremely noisy.
They should use better parts to build the motors because for a kids toy it’s way too loud, definitely louder than a vacuum cleaner and that’s without the cars clacking around the track! It’s quite harsh noise and it’s ridiculous.
As someone who spends a lot of time in music studios the noise is pretty bad, I have my own studio at home and the neighbours have never came round to ask what the hell we’re doing

Bought as Christmas present for our Grandsons they loved it , their parent did comment on how loud it was. Shame iot only came with one car. I did take on board previous reviews and tried to get other cars to go with it, But it is definitely picky about the style of hotwheels car that worked

easy to put together.my nephew loved it.A bit noisy .
The hot wheels you need are the ones that are cars not trucks or ones with spoilers on the back as the other ones are to high to go round my nephew who is 5 soon sussed it out .

I bought this for my 8-year-old, He absolutely loves it. I did have to run out and get big batteries for it, I wouldn’t recommend it for a child. Any younger as the wheels that turn on it would hurt if anything got stuck on them. Overall for my 8-year-old he absolutely loves it and it hasn’t been off

My 7 year old son loves this product. He was able to assemble it himself and has so far had endless hours of fun with it. Would highly recommend for anyone with hot wheels obsessed children. Unless the noise from repeated use is something you’re not happy with

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFirst off this is very noisy when in motion. Hugely enjoyable if you can get a few cars going at once. Biggest issue is finding cars that are suitable for the track. Either too light or too heavy, too wide or too tall. Very annoying. Hot wheels should print a list of which ones are suitable for the different tracks.

I bought this for my nephews for Christmas, aged 5 and 3, and they absolutely love it! I was concerned that it may not be as good as on the advert and that the cars would drop off etc, but it’s brilliant! The only thing I would suggest is setting it up in a different room if you’re trying to have a conversation or entertain as it is pretty noisy, but really pleased with it!

My 3 1/2 year old son loves this, but I feel it’s quite dangerous. The cars fly round at super speed and on each race the car normally flies off the track!

Beware – this is huge! It’s 4ft long and very noisy. Wish I’d realised that when I bought it. But it was a good price and of course my 6yo boy loves it. The cars are launched by the push of a button then whizz round at speed which is very exciting if you’re 6! It takes 4x D batteries so make sure that you stock up. Easy enough to assemble with pictures and clearly labelled parts. The Hot Wheels stuff we’ve had in the last has been fairly sturdy so we will see how this fares over time.

Bough for my 6 year old. He loves it. It only comes with 1 car and it’s important to know that not all other cars work on the track. They need to be lightweight and relatively flat. You need to buy 4 x D size batteries too.

Great fun and plenty of good car crash possibilities. It’s not quiet and does take up a fair amount of space but you can remove some parts to make it a little shorter when putting away.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersIt’s a lovely toy. I have given it a fair number of stars. But! But. If you are not a fan of toys that are so noisy you will need to invest in earplugs, or just have to get used not hearing anything other than the loud whirring of toy machinery. My boys love it. My ears, not so much.

My son adores this set, it’s got lots of activity going on, with multiple cars all spinning and looping at once, but oh my goodness, it is noisy when it’s running, so much so that I tend to go off and leave him to it!

There is a motor which powers the rollers at the base of the loops, which basically keep the cars whizzing round without loss of momentum.

It’s great fun to use, and as I say, there are lots of places to insert extra cars into the action so it’s not just a watch it-do-it-thing-type toy, it’s more interactive. But probably best to use it on a day when they grandparents aren’t coming round or when the baby is having a nap.

As always with Hot Wheels, it’s built tough. Well designed and strong.

    4 stars.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersBought this for my 4 year olds Christmas and he loves it. The track was relatively easy to build and didn’t take too long to do so. It is much bigger than I thought (I probably should have read the measurements first)
My son loves firing the cars on the track and watching them go round until they crash. Downsides to this however are the very loud noise the motor on the track makes. It drove us mad on Christmas morning as we could barely hear each other for the racket! Sometimes the cars come off the track too easily also and only certain cars seem to stay on i

This corkscrew crash set is a fun addition to a HotWheels set. It’s very big and good value at the current price of 37.50. I would think it over-priced at the original price of 49.99. My three year old son enjoys his hot wheels cars and he enjoys this set. However, Hot Wheels track products are usually an awful lot of bulk and plastic and I am not sure if the enjoyment is commensurate with the environmental cost.

**Edit…I’ve knocked off a star as this thing rips through expensive D batteries which somewhat limits the appeal**

We have an ever-growing Hot Wheels setup in our house. Having ordered the excellent and impressive shark attack multi-story carpark we’ve added to it with additional track builder sets to connect it to a number of the smaller “stopover” sets.

This corkscrew set is a great fun toy in its own right. Use the launcher provided to set the cars off and they trundle through the first ramp then get shot by the 3 motors into a loop system that goes for as long as they can last until spinning off or hitting another vehicle.

What we’ve started experimenting with is using this as a lower down set to our other stuff. So, using the carpark set raised up on one of the kids play units the cars then drop down an extra section of track and straight onto this set which, if you get a clean getaway from the carpark, gets the cars round the loop and back into the mechanism to carry on their journey.

There’s also a drop in ramp at the top section of the toy so you could introduce cars from other high up sets if you were really going for a show stopping setup!

Yes, it’s annoying sometimes when the cars spin out or crash, and some HotWheels cars don’t work. Best to go for the more modern, lower slung type. The one we got with the set looks a bit like one of the modern batmobiles!

Another great set from HotWheels and our 6 year old son has had hours of fun with it so far.

My 5 and 7-year-old grandsons helped me review this Hot Wheels accessory and they were delighted with it. The track set holds up to heavy use and abuse and provides plenty of varied play opportunities.

First up the box and instructions specify that ‘adult assembly is required’, and this is definitely true. The instruction booklet but gives a patient adult just enough information to go on. It took about 30 minutes to assemble for a reasonably handy person, and you have to learn the trick of certain fittings which then fall into place.

One car is provided with the set, but the fun really starts when you introduce further Hot Wheels cars onto the track, via the drop-in ramp, for racing, crashing and a multi-player feel. There is a small educational element in that players have to time their ‘launch’ of the car into the corkscrew to avoid crashing out.

I only have one negative comment, which arguably applies to many Hot Wheels sets: they are not particularly resilient structures. One particular ‘join’ on the track is prone to falling apart during heavy use and again requires an adult with some dexterity to re-connect the track. The track doesn’t technically break, it just doesn’t hold together as one unit for long.

Similarly, much like Scalextric in days gone by, the Hot Wheels track really does deserve a dedicated space so that casual passers-by don’t damage the structure by accident. Another reason to put this particular set somewhere separate is that it generates a lot of noise! The corkscrew machinery is loud and combined with the mostly happy noise of children using it, the decibel rating rose quite my in my house.

If you can set aside a decent sized table (more than a coffee table) and have a few other Hot Wheels cars handy, plus a patient adult who can follow minimal instructions, this is an excellent set. I am happy to recommend it to Hot Wheels fans keen to introduce more variety to their current setup.

My Son has quite a large Hot Wheels city set-up in his bedroom and this is one of the medium sized sets he has. This is a great set for anyone who is perhaps just starting out with Hot Wheels as it can be happily played with by itself whereas some of the other sets do need to be attached to others to get the most out of them for play.

The set itself does need some assembly but my Husband managed to get it all attached in under 15minutes time although we have had to correct the track joins a few times.

The set is motorised and whizzes the car around the track and if you have more cars you can add them to have even more fun. The cars really do whizz around at some speed and the trick is to try to add others without them crashing into the ones already on the track – its also better to only use certain Hot Wheels cars so that they move around the track better and my Son has a pile he knows work well with this track.

The motor is one of the downsides and is very noisy but to be fair the motor on any of the motorised ones he has is noisy and so we are almost used to the noise however this is one of the reasons this track is mainly used in his bedroom as it can get annoying.

A nice set and my Son being a Hot Wheel fan really likes it.

Good fun for the kids and very easy to set up really so dont be daunted when you open the box. The loops are good fun and like all of these they can be linked up to other hot wheels tracks to make them bigger. Only drawback I would say is it needs batteries and those big chunky ones you never have around the house (Or probably have never had since the early 80s) They type your dad had in the torch back in the day.

The Hot Wheels FTB65 Corkscrew Crashis great fun and works well. It doesn’t take much to setup and once your done, it looks great. You get a toy car, but as my son has many Hot wheel cars it worked out well. However, not all the hot wheels cars fit and some are too big, you will need the smaller and lighter die-cast cars.

Once you get going and start it looks great and is fun watching your favourite cars loop with speed. Also shows the dynamics of velocity and speed. The Corkscrew is colourful and feels strong. Everything works well.

The only downside, and this is a downside is that this sucks battery life. Lucky for me I have plenty of rechargeable batteries, but it still sucks them dry in a few hours. I’m spending more time recharging batteries to entertain the boys.

Overall, it is a nice product, in reality you do not need batteries, but it is much better with batteries. With a bit of ingenuity, I guess I can modify to use li-on batteries instead.

    Great Fun.

Lots of track, the floor base area is about 3 feet and lots of track and surprise traps for the speeding driver in the Hot Wheel cars.
A car is supplied and the kit will extend to other kits in the range.
Unusually this kit requires batteries, namely 4 ‘D’ Cells, better buy alkaline to last.

Fun toy set – my brother had one when he was young, many decades ago. It was great fun.

This is the most elaborate and complex Hot Wheels set we’ve encountered, and it’s now the centrepiece of a growing (but not excessively large) set-up which looks likely to dominate our living room for some time to come.

It’s also the only set where, thanks to the battery shove, the cars keep going and going and going, most of the time. Because of the sheer speed of Hot Wheels, the other sets to date have all involved car journeys that have lasted a few seconds, so it’s nice to get something that has a bit more longevity. However it’s not foolproof, and even when running normally, it’s not uncommon for cars to fall off spontaneously.

Unlike other sets, the launcher here is a button, and this gives the right amount of push to the car to get it going, *most* of the time. Again, depending a little on the car as well, it’s not uncommon for cars to set off just that fraction too fast or slow and crash out before they’ve really begun. However because it’s button-based, rather than something that depends on exactly the right amount of force being applied, it doesn’t feel like “a skill thing”, it’s more of “a luck thing”, which for our youngest seemed to mean that it was still fun, rather than something frustrating he couldn’t get right, which is the response we sometimes got with the other sets.

There’s not a lot of variety in it, and the initial thrill of speed won’t keep kids’ attention for all that long. And I’m not convinced that its unreliability, causing cars to crash or not launch properly quite a lot, is really a virtue, even in the eyes of a crash-happy child. But all that said, it’s more substantial than other sets and definitely our new favourite Hot Wheels piece.

This is huge fun! Assembly wasn’t too tricky, much like IKEA instructions Hot Wheels make them mostly simple diagram based so a bit of trial and error plus checking the box art art as set up. The included car launches perfectly and zooms around the loops using the motorised power boosters. Excellent. Finding other hot wheels cars to send around the track is loads of fun using the drop in ramp too. There is the dual fun of timing getting multiple cars going at the same time or the often preferred version of timing crashes. Our seven year old is thrilled. Brilliant!

Update: it is fun but so very noisy. Longer play can be a bit patience testing. The four D batteries (not included) have lasted well (perhaps too well) after some very extended use.

Superb (very noisy) hot wheels toy.

  44. Anonymous says:

     United Kingdom

The Hot Wheels set only does one thing, but it does it well and has plenty of wow factor. So the downside is that it does not connect to other sets – it is just a stand-alone set piece that takes up a bunch of space.

The positive is that it is impressive and the joy in watching cars smash into each other is a joy that almost every child loves. It doesn’t always go smoothly – car will sometimes leave the track and you need to select cars a low centre of gravity to minimise this risk.

Unfortunately it does not come with all the cars you need, so you need to already have a decent Hot Wheels collection, or need to buy a couple of packs of cars in addition to this set.

It is also a bit of a battery hog, but as a household with plenty of rechargeable D batteries, this is no issue, but if you have a habit of buying expensive disposable batteries then this might be an issue.

Which is a fair bit of criticism, and it would be quite easy to give this a two star rating.

But the excitement on seeing the box, and the reality of super-charged criss-crossing cars that loop the loop is a real pleasure to witness as a parent.

This is a one-trick pony, but it is a very good trick, and although it has limited playability in any given day, it is the sort of set that will be returned to again and again.

Ultimately there are plenty of families for which this is a great purchase, but plenty more for whom it is waste. Hopefully this review gives you some help in deciding which you are.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis item is actually better than I expected. It works well with the handful of cars it comes with but if you use other hot wheels cars the majority don’t work. Also you probably only get around 2/3 hours of use before the batteries die. That said its still a good toy.

  46. Kara Tsuboi says:

My children are very excited by this, and keep coming back to it for a few minutes play. However, it doesn’t sustain their interest for longer play as much as some of the other Hot Wheel sets; partly because, other than watching the cars go round, trying to add more and more cars, there is not much you can do with it. I wish, therefore, it was easier to quickly assemble and dissemble in between the short plays.

It feels well made; the instructions are very clear; and the parts fit together well. The roller-boosters really do make the cars whizz round the loops, but they are very noisy. It works best with flatter cars, though part of the fun is testing different cars to see which work best, and which crash the most catastrophically.

It needs 4 batteries, which doesn’t seem to be mentioned on the box.
