We have a very steep lawn, one that has claimed toes of a previous owner (seriously). Having had a close call myself with a flymo type mower, we went all in on this beast. It powers effortlessly up the slope, without me having to push all that much. It gives an effortless, even cut and leaves very little in the way of clippings.
I really can’t praise this mower enough, it has turned a sketchy hourlong job, into a 30 minute enjoyable pastime.
    Epic !

I didn’t find it that difficult to assemble, the instructions aren’t amazing but if you’ve assembled something like this before then that’ll definitely help. This scarifier is wider than others on the market in this price bracket and also has more height settings too which are beneficial.

The only downside is the collection basket which feels very flimsy. Upon first use, the clippings were only being caught into the opening of the basket and it wasn’t filling up. I found that most were falling to the ground when the opening had been clogged. In the end I took the basket off and scarified without, opting to manually rake up the dead grass/moss etc. On second use, I tried again with the basket but noticed it was flopping to one side as one of the metal lugs had broken clean off, rendering it even more useless than before.

Overall, it’s a good powerful machine and does the job well, it’s just let down by the collection basket.

Decided to give my lawn a make over. Bit worried. The Hyundai worked a treat and removed so much old thatch. The aerator is a real bonus. Much easier and lighter to use than expected even for an oldie.

I used it to de-thatch a heavily mossed lawn. It made very light work of it, I would never have got the same result if I done it manually.
    A top product.

This was unboxed and put together with the help of a YouTube video in 20 minutes. I put it to use on the grass and it stripped eons of dead and tangled grass plus a monumental amount of moss with very little effort. I discarded the bag which is flimsy and not very big.

Manual suggests ear protection but the noise was not an issue. Various settings were useful but it transformed the lawn after years of neglect and a subsequent dose of miracle gro 4 in one literally changed the grass colour and nailed many weeds.

For the price this machine is great value and I would recommend it to anyone as quality and also 3 year manufacturer warranty.

Ran over both front and rear lawns with this a few weeks back and seeing good results with grass fighting thru the bare patches. Tried 1 t deeper setting than other and would go with lower next time. Collection box not great but cleans up well enough

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for scarifying moss out of law

Parts of lawn are still to recover but as it hasn’t been done in 20 years this machine did a great job! Knocked a star off because the collection bag is a) very difficult to put together and b) doesn’t really collect. We used a lawn rake to pull the moss/thatch together quite easily and picked it up with a snow shovel! The machine itself has done an excellent job. Very pleased.

4.0 out of 5 stars It certainly scarifies!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’ve filled a builder bill bag with moss and rubbish grass with this, I’d have never of done it by hand.

For the review that say the catching bin gets full, that’s because it’s lifting up so much rubbish.

Great bit of kit, worked fine and tirelessly all day

Looks great, first use was great, but…

Great, i think, only used once, but….

The instructions are terrible for assembly and 2 of the 6 vital quick release clips for the handle broke on first use/assembly. Being made from plastic this is somewhat troublesome…

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but...

A bit fiddly to put together, but the scarifier did an amazing job, set at 9mm to start.
Best to use without the box, as the amount of moss will astound you, on a 12ft by 18ft lawn I filled 3 heaped wheelbarrows full.
You will need to tilt the machine every few feet to clear the moss from underneath.
    Very good value.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersScarifying by hand had become so much of a chore I wasn’t doing it, so looked for a power version. We only have 2 small lawns, one 50 sq metres and another 100 sq metres.
Firstly, when choosing a scarifier just ignore the collection bags. They are a waste of time, you will need to rake up then go over with a mower to pick up what’s left.
This machine does the job perfectly. The only reservation is that it fairly bounds along when on the deepest setting and you will struggle to hold it back and stop it skipping along the surface. It’s not so bad on the lighter, higher settings which will be the ones most frequently used.
All in all, a good purchase which seems well built.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersArrived quickly, as described. On the whole it works well and is easy to use. As other reviewers mentioned it is a little difficult to assemble the grass box and even when you do it doesn’t really work so much better to use it without the box and use a lawn rake after scarifying.

Arrived in time and put it straight to work. I have to say assembly instructions could be better, I had to Google it to get the grass basket in place. Other than that good value for money, I have a big garden so scarifying by hand wasn’t an option. This made job very easy. Manual rake still needs to come out but for doing it once a year I’m not bothered.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI used this on my lawn which had long since succumbed to moss. So first I used Aftercut 4 in 1, which includes a moss killer, then a few weeks later I used this on the treated lawn. It removed two big wheelie bins of moss from the lawn! Unfortunately I will probably have to repeat this procedure several times to make a significant impact. However, I can’t fault this product at all currently, it is easy to assemble, easy to use, and does exactly what it claims to do. I have a high opinion of Hyundai Power Tools having had one of their Petrol self-propelled mowers for several years. I have had no issues whatsoever with that, and I am hopeful for similar reliability from this.

Reasonably priced, quality ok, does the job, collecting bag does not work though on dry moss.

  18. Peter Guy says:

For a light piece of equipment it matches any domestic use in scarifying, the other fitting is of no use for aeration as it turns soil the same way, but it is powerful, needs to be used without the bag, and it’s a back to front assembly which will confuse you, but I’m a happy gardener, it worked.

Contemplated hiring a scarifier to try to recover a moss-ridden front lawn. At less than 3 times the hire cost, I reckoned if this device lasted 3 uses i’d be quids in. With the rakes at their highest setting I filled a small trailer with moss. Lowered the height and filled another trailer. Found the fastest way to operate was to remove the collector bag and then collect the moss with the mower.
As the lawn looked so much better already, I decided to leave the full scarification until the end of the season. So it has now been fertilised with a Weed and Feed prroduct.
Will add a ‘before and after’ video at some stage. Very pleased with the product. Sturdy and well worth the money!

  24. TylerGallard says:

The scarifier is an excellent tool, the only fault I could find was the grass collector, in comparison to the unit it was of poor design and much to small. Used the kit without the collector and raked up after, great job.

  25. ClaudeBlakeley says:

     United Kingdom

The box contains more like a kit of parts than a Scarifier and the assembly instructions are rudimentary however in fact assembly is straightforwards taking about 15 minutes. I didn’t bother assembling the grass box as from experience with similar equipment I know it will be next to useless. There’s a strange little plastic clip which is supposed to be some sort of strain relief for the mains cable but I couldn’t work out how to use it so I didn’t fit it either. Getting the handle height was a bit awkward as it’s difficult to keep the handle where you want it while tightening the overcentre clips but you get there with a bit of trial and error? The scarifier came with the scarifying blade already in place and since I was primarily interested in using it as a lawn rake I was able to test the blade swapping mechanism which is really easy and well designed and took all of 3 minutes.
The mains cable is a bit restrictive as you’d expect and it’s just something you need to work around, throwing it aside whenever it seems to be getting in the way but no problem really. It comes tightly coiled so to start with it tends to curl up a bit but I expect it will unkink if left coiled more loosely. The lawn rake blade Id the usual assembly of spring tines and there is a warning in the handbook not to use the lowest settings as there’s a risk of over stressing them but the -6mm setting pulled out a (very) great deal of thatch. The machine isn’t particularly noisy and tends to run off on its own but it’s easy and better to just go along at a steady walking pace. A minor nuisance is that the blades don’t extend to the edges of the machine by a large margin so doing the edges of the lawn can be difficult and it’s hard to work out where to make successive passes without leaving an unraked strip between. The amount of thatch removed was impressive.
As I already said I didn’t bother with the collecting box and just let the raked out debris lie on the lawn then I went over it afterwards with the rotary mower to suck it up and dumped it all in a heap to bag up later. No point in complaining about the poor collection as I’ve yet to see a Scarifier which does it to any useful extent. The thatch does tend to build up a bit under the flap where the collecting box should go and it helps to lift the flap a little using a piece of string to the handle but be warned that if there are any small stones or other hard objects on the lawn they’re liable to be ejected backwards at a fair speed so it’s best not to raise the flap too far.
All in all I think this is a very satisfactory machine for the money – just a small reduction in the stars for poor assembly instructions, inadequate collection (as usual), and difficulty of working out how to avoid missing bits of the lawn.

Great item, pulled alot of moss and thatch from lawn, But the collection box not fit for use as would only full a quarter of box before i had to empty. Not a problem just use my lawn mower on highest setting to collect moss and thatch.
    Very happy with it.

  27. Anonymous says:

Purchased this a couple of weeks ago and have only used the Scarifier so far, it does the job but only used the two highest settings which seems severe enough.
The hardest part of the assembly is the collection box, instructions in general are pretty poor and the grass collection box part is the worse. I would like to add that the collection box is totally useless and not fit for purpose, you need either to rake it up or collect with a lawn mower which defeats the purpose of having one machine to do the job.

No probs on basic assy and the machine is quite powerful. I think the grass basket is very flimsy and a bit blind to lock onto its fixing points

  29. Alex VanderLinden says:

The only negative is the totally inadequate collecting box. It’s flimsy and in my experience failed to collect the thatch and moss. I used the machine without it and raked the thatch and moss afterwards.

Found it quite easy to assemble but take time to check all parts are there as per instruction book, take time to ensure you know what to do in the correct order and take your time, found putting the moss catcher cover on correctly the most difficult, the collection box is far too small spent too much time emptying, ended up not using it and using my lawnmower as a hoover to collect.

Great for scarifying lawns but the option for picking up all dead material plus moss with its attached bag is a waste of time. Ended up racking by hand and then running lawn mower over the lawn to pick up smaller remains. Need to rethink the process of picking up moss etc.

Very strong and robust product. Certainly less effort when scarifying compared to manual.

Would have been 5 stars, 4 stars given as the waste collector bag i found was not fit for purpose it just would not stay on. I used the machine without the collector and then raked up the dead grass so not much of a major thing, compared to what it pulled out. Would recomend.

Mind it that you’ll need to buy a good UK to AU plug adaptor, and heavy duty extension lead.

I purchased this Lawn Rake/Scarifier earlier in the summer, but only used it for the first time in September. I can say that this machine is well made, and is easy to use. So far I have only used the ‘Spring Tine’ blade, so can’t comment re the Scarifier Blade. As my lawn was absolutely covered in moss, i went over it 3 times, in different directions with the blade set at different heights, and manually raked up the moss, prior to going over the lawn again. My only issue, was that I found that the Catch Bag, didn’t perform well, so it was just easier to manually rake up the moss. The result was certainly worth the effort.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our Usersi choose this machine because of the manufacturer reputation, its no1 rating and the good reviews. the first time i used it to aerate my lawn, and it did a good job, and a week later i decided to give it a light rake and set it at 3mm cut. when i was about 20mins into the job having done about half the garden it stopped suddenly and would not restart. i reported the problem to amazon and they notified the supplier who arranged the return and also a quick refund.i felt a little let down by the failure of the machine but was impressed by the way the situation was delt withby both parties, but i now have the hassle selecting a replacement and waiting on its delivery so that i can finish raking my garden.

Only used the solid rake so far and has done a good job of ‘verticutting’ my lawn. Easy to put together; out of the box and working within 10 minutes. Cannot comment on reliability but it seems fairly robust for a plastic machine. The collection box isn’t the best as it’s angled down towards the floor so be prepared for a clean up afterwards!

The machine would get 5 stars if the instructions were clearer, they just needed to expand the fact that each of the handle sections are secured with a flip latch to enable the handle to be easily folded, each one is identical with the bolt going from the inside with a plastic spacer to the outside followed by the flip latch. Once together it is a very sturdy machine and quite wide. The height adjustment is easy to use and the mechanism to swap the rake and aerator rollers is quite easy to use (the wing nut underneath clamps in a bearing on the replacement roller).
In use even on the highest 12mm setting with the rake it is going to pull you along and pull out heaps of moss and weeds, I moved it down to 9mm at first, but decided to stick with 12mm after a while.
Unfortunately the collection bag is not great, once you have it together you may find that the entry is clogged up by the first metre of travel and decide as I did to take it off and rake up with a hand rake (and finish up with a lawn mower. That said it really has taken a lot of moss out and I think that once the lawn recovers it will be good.
Not brave enough to try the aerator yet, that will be in the autumn.

When this was delivered (2 days early) it took 20 minutes to build and I was giving my ageing lawns a proper seeing-to.
It made light work of thinning out the compressed thatch, then I used the verticutter to aerate the soil and a final pass with the scarifier to gather the rest of the trimmings. Filled a wheelie bin with old thatch!!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI found part of the assembly instructions a little confusing.
The particular part related to the fitting of the three portions of the locking part of each handle joint.
Because the pictures are relatively small it was hard to see just where the circular plastic pieces fitted onto the arms. Although there were six of these discs in the pack it appeared only four were needed. I read the instructions over again until I found logically the way to screw on the ‘flick’ portion of the handle restraint with and without the plastic retaining disc.
Once that was worked out it was plain sailing and I am pleased with the scarifier although the weather stopped me from testing it on my lawns. I do think the Instructions writer should consider a revision to the instructions.
