I’m not even using this for a winding watch, but its a great item to look at, and always catches the eye. Extremely quiet and easy to setup. For the price, I cannot complain.

I have another Kalawen product have been pleased with it and as I wanted a watch winder I thought I’d try this and a couple of weeks later bought another one.

Both were initially very quiet but over a few weeks one has got noisy when turning and I can hear a fast ticking noise when paused. The other one has got slightly noisier but is still relatively quiet and doesn’t make any noise when paused.

Both of them don’t always start up the first time when pressing the power switch whether on battery or mains power but trying again a few seconds later or manually giving a slight spin is usually enough to get them going. However this has got worse over time with both of them.

I calculate they do around 1700 turns per day (tpd) which is far in excess of all my watches containing ETA, Sellita, Seiko and cheap Japanese movements which require 650-800 tpd and I try to run them for around 10-12 hours a day maximum.

What they are useful for is starting and winding watches with the Sellita 200 movement as they’re known for sometimes having the reversing wheels getting ‘gummed up’ giving the feeling when winding, at it’s worst, that the whole movement is trying to turn inside the case.

It’s a fairly easy fix usually requiring a simple service. However putting the watch on the winder for 24-48 hours is usually enough to start the watch up and give it sufficient power reserve to run on your wrist without any manual winding.

Running on battery power (2 x AA) gives around 8-9 days of 24 hours use.

I’m slightly concerned about the increasing noise levels in one of them but for the price they’re pretty good for the basic watch winding task especially for Sellita 200 movements.

Update: After nearly 3 months both winders had stopped starting 🙂 reliably. Quite often I’d notice a watch had stopped so presumably hadn’t been wound for over 35+ hours.

Although I wouldn’t recommend this and instead suggest you return them under warranty I dismantled them. The reduction gears inside the gearbox are nylon and shouldn’t need lubrication however the pivot posts are steel and weren’t lubricated. I greased them being careful not to contaminate the rubber/silicone drive band.

Although it’s only a week since I greased them both have been running in the normal way 24/7 and haven’t stopped. The unit that was particularly noisy has quietened down and no longer makes the ‘ticking’ noise when paused.

I noted that the 2 halves of the plastic gearbox/reduction unit were held together with wood screws so not the best quality or attention to detail.

Bought for husband new watch, and it’s quiet as described. Easy to use, you can’t even notice it’s running as it’s not noisy at all. Recommend to all if you looking for just one watch!

Placed next to bed and very quiet and easy to use. I’ve had several different winders more expensive and louder. Hopefully this one lasts longer than the other brands I’ve tried 2 months being the shortest .

I have it running next to me all day, and never hear it. Not tried at night though.

This was purchased for my son to keep his automatic watch on time without wearing it on a daily basis.
Rotates clockwise and anticlockwise with a silent movement.
Works well and looks nice .

Bought as a gift and well appreciated
