Awesome
Delivered quickly. Easy to use and feels good in the hand
Best tool
Never imagined how easy my jobs in the garden are with this powerful tool to trim and cut branches.
Amazing battery power and duratio
Works fine
Box damaged and re tapped up then inside another box that wasn’t damaged? But seems to be working fine.
Powerful cordless saw
Good for cutting small logs , 3×2 and 4×2 timber.
Easy blade change to metal cutting blades, timber cutting blades and green wood/ garden cutting, battery life obviously depends on which amp hour battery you have.
Great produc
Perfect tool I already used for 3 weeks and is brillia
Tidy bit of ki
Using with 5amp batteries, to disassemble 4x2inch garden fence wrapped with chicken wire and staples, also on pallets to recover wood for kindling and to shorten some lengths of logs (roughly a inch or two wider than 2 ltr pop bottle – sabre blades) Really rate this, used wood/metal blades and sabre blades. It’s weighty and solid, definitely a 2 handed tool. I have a couple of batteries so haven’t had problems re charge. Blade changing is easy.
brilliant service well done .
my husband loves the saw does everything it should do..
light weight too .
Makita reciprocating saw.
Bought this tool a while ago,so I’ve had chance to use it regularly,it’s a monster with the right blade In,does exactly what it’s supposed to do,powerful but heavy,so be careful,it would do enormous injury in the wrong hands, treat it with the respect it deserves.
Great.
Brilliant, the one job I needed it for payed for it….
Essential Garden Item
Like many others, I now wonder – having used this is many ways over the past few months – how I managed before. It is brilliant. Yes, it is quite heavy, but the convenience is amazing. Do buy one!
This is a barebones tool (indicated by the Z on the model number) – you get nothing apart from the tool, a cardboard box, plus 2 different Makita blades. So if you’re already tied into the Makita LXT ecosystem, you’re in business immediately once you clip a battery in.
Great price for the tool, and the destructive power is, well, amazing for not having to worry about a power cord. Great convenience. I’ve mainly used to destroy and shorten lots of wood to scrap, but also used it effectively when removing stud walls. I’m always finding an excuse to use it often.
It is heavy, you’ll need a sturdy 2-hand operation, but there is just something so satisfying about using it. I’ve not tried alternative brands but why would I when I’m tied into Makita – I simply check their tool catalog and find what suits, and buy it barebone. It just so happens that I’m using one of the best, as confirmed by many trade people that I meet on sites – most of them have had or used one and not had any complaints with it’s power.
It does chew through batteries but when the tool arrived I expected this. I have the dual charger and a big supply of 5Ah Makita batteries so this isn’t a concern! But if you only have 1 battery and need continuity, I’d recommend getting a second battery and charging/using in tandem. Non-issue for trade people as I think they’re all likely to have plenty of batteries up-front.
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant bit of ki
A wish I’m bought one years ago very handy bit of ki
5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome saw, bit brutal, def heavy
Great saw, sorted various branches on the public footpath without hassle
It’s heavy and bags of torque, so make sure you got strong arms
Beats a hand saw
5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome
Makita is a great brand, I’m really happy with the saw. Highly recommend
Brutally Effective
This saw isn’t light, and it is a little cumbersome, but it is brutally effective ripping through timber, and plastic and, with the appropriate blade, steel and aluminium. It makes cutting corrugated metal a breeze and I’ve even used it for pruning trees. Recommended.
Recip saw
Powerful and solid. Eats battery’s a little but worth it’s money
Another great a Makita tool
Used it for cutting through tree roots that were still partially underground. Understandably it ate through blades but worked a treat and saved me loads of time. I’m sure I can find plenty of other uses for it over time. Great tool.
Works as expected, a very solid tool
I used this to cut large fence posts. The tool works very well and there is a good level of bladed available. I find it reassuringly robust and easy to operate.
Not much more to say really, a good honest tool. I bought the carry case as an extra which is great too.
Amazingly powerful bit of ki
This reciprocating saw is quite big and heavy – it is a two handed tool – but it is very powerful and will chew through really quite big tree trunks, tree limbs and firewood like butter. Battery life is excellent and after an hour’s sawing I still had 75% of a 5A battery left. Resist the temptation to use it one handed because after it has cut through the last of the piece of wood you are working on, there is a tendency for it to swing down towards your legs unless it is supported by a second hand.
Should have bought the 36volt versio
Great little tool, does lots of little work easily but struggles with the bigger jobs it gets tired (battery) definitely recommend only using genuine Makita battery as others will die half way through the tasks, wish I had afforded the twin battery version! But still a great purchase
Powerful, and makes light work
Powerful tool and great that it stops when you release the trigger unlike my previous rip saw which slows down. This can cause issues when cutting out plasterboard ceiling. Aligned with the right blade it will cut through anything!
Quality tool
Bought this to cut some sleepers in the garden. Wow amazing!
So much easier.
2 blades in the box. 1 for wood 1 for metal. I didn’t see this mentioned in the description so I had bought some Bosch blades at the same time. Could have saved 20.
.
Great tool from Makita yet again. Circular saw next on the wish list from Makita
Looks the Part, Just what i needed
This is a good tool to have and is very well priced and from a reputable brand.
If ‘bare bones’ is all you need then this is a great value deal.
What is does not say is it comes with TWO blades included so all you need is the battery to get using.
There is NO case as expected in a ‘bare bones’ tool. A Makita MAK PAK Case is ideal for this however you will need to remove the Blade to put it in as this tool is quite long but better value than the ‘Mini’ Saw version as it has more cutting range! so consider that when you choose the one you want.
And ‘NO’ is does not come with a battery or charger! Why do people keep asking the same questions? It says ‘Bare Bones’, reading reviews that ask the obvious! PLEASE READ and UNDERSTAND before you post.
It is not waterproof or Dishwasher safe! waiting for that one to appear!
So basically a good tool, comes in a carboard box, has two blades included, No battery, No charger and No case, hence the bargain price!
Good luck in your purchase choice!
Brillia
I have to say that I am a regular user of Makita tools. So when the need for a recip saw came up, the choice was easy.
It’s a monster 🙂 Very solid and reassuringly heavy, I tested it with some offcuts of 4 by 2. It went through them like a hot knife through butter with no effort on my part.
Cutting up lopped branches for the bin was quick and effortless. Haven’t tried on metal or plastic yet but see no cause for concern.
Happy that my choice of Makita was right again 🙂
Should have bought one of these years ago
Very well designed and ergonomic tool that’s easy to handle. It’s been used for demolition work, cutting into sleepers and fence posts, and various metals. It’s surprisingly good for pruning fruit trees.
Makita reciprocating saw
Typical Makita quality. It’s a chunky piece of kit so not for the faint hearted but great value. I suppose if you intend to use it a lot you might prefer to invest in the brushless version but this really is a bargain if you accept that minor drawback.
All round saw.
Wish i had purchased one years ago . Ideal all rounder for diy and garden . The pruning blade is a must have for this machine . Not quite chainsaw , but will cope with 6 inch no problem . Like anything , the battery life is dependent on the task at hand.
Excellent tool, cut anything anywhere, with the right blade
It feels like a quality tool to be abused in field. Will go through a battery quite quickly, lots of power, recommend using 5amp . Excellent for demolition or general rough cutting of anything
Carry enough spare blades and battery power for your needs in the field.
I waited a long time until the right system came up . I liked the price and I use it as a member of Witney Woodland Volunteers as it is quiet and we cannot use chain saws. I use it for coppicing and removing dead trees and making habitat piles. It is quite heavy but it is stable and easy to control and change blades.
Another great Makita power tool
All my cordless are Makita. Added this to my fleet and have not been disappointed.
Great machine. Amazing value for money
Have used this a few times now taking down bushes and trees in my garden and its fantastic goes through 4 inch branches like butter with the correct blade. Bought at a really good price as well. Would definitely recommend
Awesome
It’s a big heavy monster of destruction . I love i
Good bit of ki
Good bit of kit. So far so good. Used it a lo
Brillia
Managed 30 years without this didn’t know how much I needed one
Fantastic saw.
Delivered quickly and we’ll packaged. Tool only saw added to Makita tools I already have. Used with 5ah 18v battery (not supplied) it will cut for a substantial time. Very good saw. Blades are easy to change and available in multiple sizes.
Heavier than expected
Absolute monster when it comes to cutting ,put a decent blade in it and it’s like carving butter.
Genuine Makita Tool
This is a genuine Makita tool, delivered in correct box. It’s a little hungry on 3.0 AH batteries but lasts long enough for most quick jobs.
Could do with a foot slide
Good price, but could do with an adjustable foot depth. Or, whatever it’s called. An older model I used had this and when space past your cut is tight,it is handy to fill the gaps between blade lengths.

I’ve recently moved to a house with a wood-burner stove and have plenty of woodland around me. So I was looking to get something that would be useful for chopping up fallen tree limbs for the stove. It came down to a choice between a small chainsaw or a recipro. And, although a chainsaw would have been capable of taking on bigger logs as well as making me look more manly [I even have a tartan lumberjack shirt somewhere!], in the end, I decided a recipro would be more generally useful, as it can also cut metal –and also needs less fettling than a chainsaw.
I’m pleased with the decision. I chose Makita over other name brands [De Walt, Milwaukee, Hitatchi, etc.] on a combination of price, build quality and reputed battery longevity. Also, I’ve had Makita tools before and they’ve never let me down. That said, I’m sure any of the big brands would be just as good. You pick your team and [because of battery lock-in] you tend to stick with it.
The saw is great. I’ve not used it on metal per se yet. Although I have cut up lots of old wooden fencing with nails in it and, per reason for purchase, have used it to cut up a lot of quite thick fallen tree branches. It’s laughed at anything I’ve thrown at it so far and with the longer ‘green wood’ pruning blades I’ve bought, it can cut some pretty thick branches.
The only down side is the battery life. I bought 2 of the Makita 5Ah LXT batteries to go with the saw and I’m lucky to get about 20 -25 mins of use out of one, on a full charge. Actually, I was watching a YouTube video on battery chainsaws, the other night and those had run-times of not much over 5 or 6 mins. So, at least this recipro can beat that by decent margin.
It’s just a pity the batteries are so dear, or I’d buy a couple more. But, the situation with cordless power tools –especially the high-draw heavy duty ones like this– is similar to that with printers and ink. You end up paying more for the parts to keep it ‘charged up’ than you do for the tool itself.
Excellent reciprocating saw
I bought this as I already have a few brushless Makita 18V tools. It is heavier than I expected but cuts well. I used the Amazon Brand — Umi Reciprocating Saw Blade Set with this and have had no issues.

Quality
Amazing piece of kit, go for the brand not the price of other cheaper alternatives
Useful tool added to my ki
A very useful tool to add to my battery operated selection of tools
The sabresaw does what it is supposed to
It is a good well built machine, have used it to cut the trunk on a palm tree and the roots on a Leylandi.
But will use it when ever rough heavy duty cutting is needed.
Very happy
Beast! Use if for everything from sawing metal to pruning trees
Great performance, changing blades is easy. Good price. Don’t think you can go wrong with this in my opinion.
Value for money
Glad I bought one. Good for cutting plenty of different materials with the correct blade for the job. Battery life is dependent on which battery you use of course. But 4ah last well.
It works as you would have hoped
I cannot say anything negative about this tool, it’s light and it works perfectly with quick tool change. Love it and great to add to your toolbox ki
Great entry level recip
This recip is great for small jobs. It’s the most basic model hence the cheap price in comparison. I’m an electrician and use it to cut through 100mm copper cable no problem. Copper is soft compared to other metals though. If you’re looking for something to cut through tree branches, small timber, sheet steel, etc. Then I recommend. Anything bigger then what I mentioned you may want to spend more for something more heavy duty.
Excellent tool
All I will say is everyone needs one of these. So versatile and quick. Saves me hours.
Love Makita tools
This is a great tool, easy to use .. I never have any issues with Makita products
Makita Quality
Beast of a machine.
Loads of power.
Matched with good blades it makes light work of tough jobs.
Its a heavy machine and has serious power, not for light weight faffing jobs.

Great saw
A great saw, would thoroughly recommend if you want this type of saw especially DIY enthusiasts
Excellent recip saw from Makita
Excellent for fast cuts, comes with 2 small blades (metal and wood). The tool is powerful and drains the battery really quickly, but a must tool if you need to cut quick. Dont forget to register for the extended 2yr (3yr in total) warranty.

So many uses, and cut through everything I needed to use it on. Good construction. Comes with a couple of blades.
I’m a fan of the Makita system where you can buy tool bodies only (no charger/battery) to extend your toolset using quality tools.at a great price.

All good 👍
Does what it says on the tin really, it’s a handy tool for the price, spot on if you need to use it for a handful of cuts, if it’s a tool you reckon you would use a lot more in a day, you may want to consider the brushless version, around another 100 quid on the price, but just a thought to consider.

Made life easy
With the right blades this cut through thick branches, stems and roots. Battery life was surprisingly good. Saved a lot of messing about taking out unwanted vegetation.
Good tool
Great tool , heavy & body is long not an issue for me though
Impressive
I had the 110 Makita reciprocating saw, but working on roof it is a pain having a electric cord trailing. So the cordless is powerful and good build quality as expected from Makita. I already had 2 5ha batteries which last a while. Just brillia

Powerful tool
Was for a present and my other half is over the moon with it.
Amazing tool easy to use
Usual Makita standard
Powerful heavyweight piece of kit does exactly what you would expec
Easy to change the blade
The manufacturer design makes it easier to use there products
Very good tools
Good battery life easy to change the blade on saw
Easy to use
Better and easier than we expected the tool to be but great value for money
A serious bit of kit.
It was a present. Recipient was pleased with its performance.
saw
This is a great tool and at s really good price cut anything
I purchased this saw to speed up cutting down quite a large patch of bamboo. It did this easily. Made the job quite easy. Battery (not provided) lasted about 45 minutes to an hour, although I had used it to do some drilling first. May well last 1-1.5 hours on full charge. I recharged and it lasted another hour without needing be charged. This was with a 3Ah Makita battery.
Seems good so far – feels good quality, but not too heavy to cause problems. As with any reciprocating saw, the vibration can be a little tiresome and if used on very ‘loose’ branches it will shake them rather than cut. This is not unique to this saw though, just the type.
Makita RecipSaw
Borrowed one off a friend to cut branches of tree in garden. So impressed bought one for myself! Makita carry case sold separately essential in my opinion.
Good meaty tool, not afraid of anything
Bought this as my other saw identical was being repaired.
There great.
I use one of these saws for 1.5hours everyday.
The only thing I can say negative about these is they eat batteries.
Working it very hard for an hour and a half would use About 5 fully charged 5Amp batteries.

Better have plenty of high capacity batteries!
I found that with the 3AH batteries you were lucky to get more than a couple of minutes of cutting time, if you plan to use this seriously you better have some high capacity batteries to hand.

Superb Hardy tool
I have other makita tools and they are all great, bought this to cut through nails on pallets, to make cold frames and planters. Superb tool.
What a piece of ki
Wow, this thing is great ideal for getting in between nailed/screwed together wood and cutting the fixing. I use the 5A battery so lots of power and long lasting. If you’re removing corrugated metal roof panels this is the thing. Also good on smaller tree branches. Defo recommend so much easier than a regular hacksaw or bow saw.

Fantastic tool
Ordered and arrived very quickly
I used it to cut down some branches and it went through them like butter
I then changed the blade and cut through some bolts it doesn’t get much better than that
It’s now in my tool box at work waiting for the next job

Cutting 20cm tree branches with ease!
Cutting 20cm tree branches with ease!
Just buy big saw blades and this become serious game changer.
What would have taken me days with good manual saw, took me just 30minutes.
Keep in mind that it drain one 5Ah battery in 30-40minutes of work.
So be prepared with spares.
Haven’t tried to cut lot of metal with it, but looks promising as it won’t throw so much sparks like angle grinder.
Great produc
Makita saw was recommended to us by a builder and even we can’t compare with others, we are very happy with the purchase.
amazing bit of ki
I bought this to cut some nails from pallets and ended up using it for a variety of purposes, including a very neat cut through a worktop. My only negative is how heavy it is, making it difficult to use one handed if you need to support the cut material. What impresses me the most is the speed of the cut; it’s like a hot knife through butter. Overall a superb purchase that will see a lot of use in the future
makita tools
I used this saw the moment it arrived, I have all Makita tools so just another to add to the collectio
A Beas
I bought this device to cut through thick hedge branches in my garden that my hedge trimmer just couldn’t handle. It does this with ease – Like a knife through butter. I only wish my 3aH batteries lasted longer but I have a spare so it’s not too much of an issue to swap over and charge the other. If you need to chop through wood then this will make things much easier!

Excelle
Excellent product works well even though a bit heavy. A good value for money like with most Makita products.
Buy a proper make not the Chinese ones
Always use Makita trust this brand over the terrible Chinese ones at last a few months and then Stop working often ending in fire or so are use the Makita genuine batteries yes I have tried the cheap Chinese ones and they’re useless

Goodbye old decking
In the morning I had a load of decking, in the afternoon I had a load of wood. Made the job 100x easier, just cuts through wood quickly and without a hitch.

Happy with purchase
Bought for someone else who struggled to use a normal saw due to mobility. They are very pleased with it. He’s done the work he was meant to do and is now looking about for other things to hack to bits! Can’t really comment on anything else as I know nothing about the product but he did say it was easy to hold and not too heavy.

Brilliant product!! They’re different to compare prices with other brands as theres so many but when you buy Makita you’ll get your monies worth!!
Best tool invented
Greatest tool ever, makes life very easy. Flies through batteries but a solid tool, takes plenty of hardship
This has made my life so much easier. Used mainly to rip out old windows I’ve added it to my collection and it (along with SDS) has resulted in my no longer needing leads and/or a transformer to do my job. light weight and has handled everything I’ve thrown at it, thick timber to metal windows and obviously shreds through plastic. It does it batteries though, and you can notice the difference in performance between 3ah and 5ah batteries. I would of preferred a Dewalt recip, but work use akita so I needed something that worked with their batteries, not my own collection at home. Recommended if you have the 4ah+ batteries.
