Usual Makita quality, clever design and plenty of power. Wouldn’t be without it now, a versatile and capable tool.

A bit heavy but the balance is just perfect. One can attach any tool by any manufacturer. The quick tool changer is priceless, not as quick as in Bosch, but it feels way more secure the way it is. Never had a situation where the battery placement was an obstacle. Bosch seems a bit more compact but it’s balance is worse.

Ok the tool is great, but like other reviewers I didn’t get the adaptor tool when I purchased this. You can buy the missing adapter here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Makita-Adapter-Multi-Functional-Tool-196271-6/dp/B0146RBKSI (part number 196271-6). I contacted amazon after purchasing mine and got a refund sufficient to cover the missing the part and so on. So it’s still a good buy, it just involves a bit of messing about if the adapter is missing.

Don’t forget to register the tool on Makita UK’s site for the 3 yr warranty too!

This kit is great value for money. Yes it’s a costly purchase, but it’s up to Makita’s usual standards and design. I’ve used a number of the attachments included in the box and have to say they made a difficult job an absolute breeze. The versatility of the tool, it’s power control and the quality of the blades made a hard to reach cut into a floorboard a piece of cake. The sanding kit that comes with the kit looks better made and more likely to get used than a detail sander I bought years ago.
You will need to buy the right 18v batteries to run this tool. I already own the 18v cordless drill and impact driver set that uses the same batteries and charger, so didn’t buy any extra. My drill set batteries are the 5A ones, but you can get lower Amp batteries to use with this multi tool for a little less money that the higher Amp output ones if you don’t already have Makita batteries. The storage box has space in it for 2x batteries and a charger if you do end up buying them.
The accessories come in really neat Makita storage boxes so you can safely store the multi tool, batteries and accessories without stuff getting ruined in transit. The box is excellent too as it will stack and lock to any other Makita tools you own using their own locking clips designed for safe stacking.
All in all, a brilliant timesaver of a tool and a accessories kit and an excellent buy for anyone’s money.

Good build quality and as a cutting tool it’s superb. It let’s itself down slightly as a sander; adequate for small to midsize jobs, but I’ve just used it on a staircase and it began to show some signs of fatigue halfway through.

I had a plug in multi tool which eventualy gave up , i decided on the Makita MT as i have the impact gun and can share the battery. its a super sturdy tool and the quick release makes this so easy to swap out the different ends.
doesnt vibrate your hand like other MT i have used before, variable speed and battery low indicator.

comes in the large Macpac which gives added storage and stacks away nice.

    very happy with this purchase.

    I have several 18v Makita tools .
I think they’re the best value for money.
I find these multitools are very handy and can give precise cuts with care .
I had a mains powered Black & Decker multitool. It had a screw in and a fast mounting blade fixing.
The fast mounting one relied on a VERY strong spring to retain the blades.
This was so strong getting the blades in wasn’t the easiest experience.
The Makita fixing relies on a steel pin retained by a cam ( I think ) so no spring to fight against making it far easier to fit blades .
It work’s just as well as the mains one but of course there’s no cable limiting your movement.

Very pleased with the Makita Multitool. Iv used several different brands over the years and for a cordless, this is a beast. It’s on par with the Fein Multitool but as anyone that’s used one will know they only come in a corded model. This proves inconvenient for tight spaces, up/down ladders etc. It’s quite long in its size and a fair weight but both are manageable when using. The variable speed setting is handy for precise cuts and I love the soft start function too. There’s not much vibration when in use and doesn’t leave you with tingly fingers if using for long cuts. All in all very pleased.

Really good solid bit of kit. Goes right though coving like butter, very useful. The quick change takes a bit of getting used to and can be a bit fiddly but once latched it’s solid. It is pretty noisy, but that is to be expected. Well worth it and the sander attachment works really well, much better than my cheap random orbit.

So. I finally bought one. And the question is why didn’t I do so long ago. Great bit of kit. I already have other Makita tools and this performs as good as those. Easy to use. Not that heavy and yes it does the job better than I thought it would. Good size box and great little accessory kit. Worth every penny.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersEven at 390W, I expected this to be gutless compared to the more powerful corded model I had been using. If anything the Makita has better cutting performance.

Cutting into the ceiling is so much better if you don’t have a power cable getting in the way. But remember, if you do need dust extraction, you can never be truly cordless.

Battery life is good. Using the plunge blade and segment blade in plywood and plasterboard, I’m getting about an hour of actual cutting with a 5Ah battery

You pay about 35 more for the quick tool change, but it is so much more convenient than using a hex key. This bundle comes with a Makpac case and the correct case insert (not shown in the picture).

These tools are never quiet, so you do need to wear ear defenders.

The luxury tool you don’t need until you have it and then can’t live without. Quick change chuck well with paying extra for… Flip the lever all the way back and the tool shaft pulls out. Swap blade and just flip the lever down again. For info I got about 20 minutes continuous cutting out of a 4ah battery.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersLast year I bought cordless Makita Drill and Circular Saw and was so impressed by them that I have added the Multi-Tool to the collection.
The main bonus is that they all use the same battery so you if you are canny with keeping the batteries charged you never run out of DIY juice.
The Multi-Tool feels quite weighty in you hand and a little unbalance but once you get used to how it feels you don’t look back.
Having recently moved house I had 10 door frames that needed the bottoms trimming off in order to lay laminate flooring in the hallway. Previously this would have taken all morning with a skirting board saw, not this time, just over an hour to do the lot.
Since then I have used the Multi-Tool to cut skirting board, laminate flooring, floor boards and made a perfect hole in plasterboard for a pattress box.
The blades are quick and easy to change so you can flit between jobs without having to hunt down the “key” to change blades.
It makes life much easier and gets task completed in a fraction of the time. The only challenge it has given me was sanding some architrave – it seems a little top heavy and harder to manoeuvrer that a Mouse/Orbital sander but maybe a bit more time and practice will see me adapt to this aspect of the tool.
The carry case also stack neatly on top of all the other Makita boxes in the shed so keeps everything nice and tidy.
I always thought Makita tools were “expensive” but I know why I pay a little more “convenience, time saving, long lasting” – as with everything in life you get what you pay for and with Makita you just don’t pay as often, as it lasts and does the job you want!

Very handy tool, was instantly useful for cutting out a seized nut on the back of a hard to reach tap. It is a little heavy and bulky though with the battery, and wish I could attach belt clip, like on the combi-drills and impact drivers.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersSuperb piece of kit which goes along nicely with my other Cordless kit so I can interchange batteries. Also, when I ordered this kit it came with a hose connection for sanding, which I didn’t realise at the time, so you can suck up the dust. This is probably the best suction system I’ve used in a long time and when connected to the hoover, there was very little dust left anywhere but in the hoover. Just be sure your connect the adaptor properly to the tool before the hoover, because there is a catch mechanism that if not locked in place properly, it doesn’t work as well.
The fine controls for motor adjustment are simple enough with a rotary switch which does give enough fine measurement and there is a battery indicator that comes on when the battery is nearly out of juice which saves you getting stuck half way through cutting something only to find the battery cutting out and ruining your work.
The device can be heavy for a Cordless kit compared to other tools i’ve used but build quality seems to be on par with other Makita kit I have. The attachment system works brilliantly with a flick of the lever, pop out one tool and pop in another and lock and you’re ready to go. Just remember to take of the sanding paper first if sanding, as it’s much easier to pull off the sand paper when attached to the device and remove the locking pin.
If there is one thing this device could use though, it’s probably some sort of dampening system to cut down on the vibration into your hands. After a long while of sanding my fingers were buzzing. Maybe need to see if there is a decent pair of gloves out there. I have it on my Bosch Corded sander which seems to work brilliantly, but maybe being a different type of sander it works better??
One thing I will say though, it sucks up battery juice really quick if doing a lot of sanding so probably not the best tool for that, but for cutting and attachments I received in the box(yes, it even came with a big box) it’s been excellent and cut everything I’ve thrown at it so far, which is mostly wood right now, have yet to try any metals.
Overall, it’s been a useful tool and worth the money. Would I buy it again, possibly if it was better on battery usage or maybe just need a large battery capacity as I only have 40.ah batteries or whatever they’re called. Haven’t tried a corded one so can’t compare that as the jobs I was doing was more convenient for cordless.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersMuch more than a saw- premium price but worth it. Recommend you get the Makita BL1850 5ah battery (see separate review) which is fantastic in fast charging and staying power.
That makes the total package rather expensive for a perceived ‘luxury’ tool, but this is one of those tools that you find unimaginable purposes for and then congratulate yourself you bought it in the first place.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHad this tool for about a month and already used it for a range of jobs that would normally have needed loads of other tools and been a lot more difficult – plunge cutting 18mm plywood, sawing through rusted-in screws in a metal alarm box (I bought a saw blade from b&q for these jobs), sanding large panels and many more. Tool and battery change is simple. I was going to share my Makita drill battery but in the end bought a 2nd to ensure one was always ready.

A superb multitool and a vast improvement over a lower voltage example I already possess.
Change of tools is enabled by activating a quick release lever that releases the tool holder. A very simple yet very effective means of tool changing.
The selection of cutters and sanding disks is acceptable but the supplied box, whilst acceptable for the enclosed number of tools does not easily accommodate additions cutters.
    All together an exceptional Multi-Tool.

Used it for the sanding function, the actual machine is excellent, if a little heavy (using it on a ceiling) However, I’ve knocked a star off because the supplied sanding paper velcro attachments kept coming loose during sanding. The velcro attachments are not heavy duty enough for the job and this causes the paper to slide off during use. You constantly have to stop sanding to reattach or align the sanding paper. Also damage is done to the sanding base attachment if the sanding paper slides off. It’s a big annoyance for such an expensive item. My old 20 corded Bosch sander got the job done quicker in the end.

Purchased in prep for an upcoming job at home. I like the ability to change the cutting blades without the need for any special tools. Comes complete with an assortment of sanding sheets and cutting tools. Looking forward to give it a good test in the near future.

Golden Review Award: 27 From Our UsersIve used these multitools before on jobs but never owned my own and i marvelled at there versatility.. now that i’m doing more work on my own it was a must have on the tool list and i decided to invest in one of the best. On initial holding its heavier than i expected but that does also make for a robust tool and is dependant on the size of the battery. I purchased the smaller makita battery just for this tool but sadly i was to discover that you really need a larger battery as the constant sanding or cutting does drain it very quickly. The quick change mechanism is a gift when swapping out back and forth – i’ve used it mostly for cutting out rotten wood around door trims and windows and patching and repairing so i was constantly switching back and forth from blade to sander with ease.. the sanding pads are great but as it only comes with the single blade id definitely recommend purchasing a few others as the circular blade can make it a bit cumbersome for the kind of job i had in hand. I was also pleasantly surprised that it came with those stackable makita hardcases

i also forgot to mention the dust extractor.. its over looked as an essential element of tools these days – on any given day i find myself in an environment of paint dust, saw dust, filler and who knows what other chemicals i could be breathing in so finding tools that not only aid in cleaning up the mess but also have a benefit to my health is a bonus. the reason why i even bought this version was the fact it came with this accessory.
