So if you want to make a great tasting coffee at the touch of a button, this machine is great. For a mug I have the quantity button just to the left of straight up, strength set to 2, and the 2x button pressed. This gives you 2 shots of Lungo. Alternatively put 2 or 3 espresso sized shots in a mug and top up with hot water. I advise against just setting quantity to max and selecting max strength. You will over extract the coffee that way, my method is closer to barista style coffee. Also easy to make the milk based coffee drinks. Some people have complained about the noise of the coffee grinder. Really?!?! Perhaps you should go to a cafe and listen out for the coffee grinder noise, it is going to be loud!! People also complain about the cleaning, well coffee is mucky and any decent machine will require regular cleaning and maintenance. The day to day operation is however pretty convenient apart from cleaning the brew chamber every few days and daily emptying of the tray. The longer cycles are every few weeks. In terms of temperature, this can be adjusted in the menu. To make your machine last longer, just leave this alone. Plus to get better taste coffee shouldn’t be made top hot anyway. If you really want hotter coffee, make it shorter and then top up from the kettle. I’ve had my machine for over a year now and it has developed a few minor software issues, currently it isn’t getting any worse but if Melitta reads this perhaps they can respond? The main issue is very occasionally switching itself off after I’ve turned it on and it has carried out its rinsing cycle.

Very easy and straight forward. Only wish there could be more accuracy when adjusting the water volume knob. But other than that, no complains so far (Have been using it for 1 month now)

When my old and basic coffee machine finally gave up the ghost, I decided to spend a bit more money on a replacement. I’d enjoyed the old one for many years and the coffee it produced was really good but it was slow to warm up and the whole process was time-consuming and often a bit messy to clean up. After reading reviews on Amazon until my eyes turned square, I still hadn’t made a definitive choice. There were quite a few that looked really good and a huge range of prices. Reviews of the same product by different people often varied widely and so were not much help. In the end I just thought “what the heck — they are probably all pretty good and I went for one in the middle price-wise, the Melitta Solo.

It’s fully automatic, bean to cup, and so in that sense it automatically does many of the things that amateur baristas probably love to play around with and tweak. Me — I really want a great coffee but I’m not obsessed and don’t want to be fiddling around with too many settings. This one absolutely fits the bill for me. It does a lot of that tweaking stuff for itself, like pre-warming the chamber, charging the coffee with an initial shot of water and so on. But basically, all you have to do is put coffee beans in the top, fill it with water, set the size of the brew and push a button for how strong you want it, and finally how many cups. For the first couple of weeks I did mess around with different strengths and the amount of time the water flows through the coffee. But having found the setting I like, I now leave all that alone and just push “go” for a single mug, where I’ve prewarmed the milk in the microwave. Height adjustable, it can take tall mugs which is a real plus. Yes, it does all that steaming stuff and again different options are available, even drawing up the milk for itself if you want it to. I have the occasional cappuccino or latte but mainly it’s just “push and go”. Frankly it’s “vending machine simple” and very nearly as quick but superb quality brews, as good as anything you’ll find in one of the chains on the high street (and better than some!). I use decent quality beans, roasted locally.

It cleans itself after use and all I have to do is empty out the coffee grounds every 5 or 6 brews and keep it topped up with water and beans. Even reminds me to do that too! I should imagine that it is horrendously complicated inside, with microchips and servo motors and automated valves so — thank goodness — it comes with a 10 year guarantee!

Perhaps more by luck than judgement, I seem to have purchased the coffee machine that’s right for me, combining quality with simplicity. Not the cheapest of course, nor the most expensive, and definitely worth the money IMHO.

This coffee machine will sit in the corner of your kitchen shouting at you: ‘Descale me’, ‘Clean me’, ‘I need a new filter’, ‘Clean my milk wand’. It is never ending and all require the additional cost of cleaning products. I only have about 3 coffees a day so it was not from being placed under undue pressure, it is just a prima donna. Oh and it also doesn’t like good quality beans, it cant cope with the oil content. The grinder finally gave up the ghost on mine after 7 months. I have now replaced with a different make. A shame as when it is not shouting at you it makes a decent cup of coffee.

Quick tip, negative reviews say it died after 2 years… Well take out 4 year cover – problem solved. Let me say straight up, this runs too hot, first thing when you get it turn the temp down.
Next, mild is quite strong so play with the length of the shot and the grind.
Other than that go have fun with it. I like the manual dials, means we can have a play with settings easily.
Cost wise itll save a lot over the Nespresso pods so good for the family.
Milk/froth is brilliant and easy to do, much easier than a simple wand.
Is it better than the 600 quid delonghi it replaces? In some ways yes, dials and drip tray all better, even the brew unit is easier to remove, milk adapter is easy and no waste. taste? Not sure yet, still need to try other beans and grind when i have done 100 cups. Either way its here to stay and the crema is a load better than many so im happy with it so far. Couple of critiques… Water tank and bean compartment is small compared to others but i like the top loading water removal, makes a change from the slide type. For 280 its a bargai

Wir haben diese Maschine fr unser Bro gekauft, tglich werden da so um die 20-30 Kaffee gemacht.
Vorteil ganz klar, wenig Platzaufwand.

Love my mew coffee machine I love the fact that it cleans by itself and very easy to clean milk parts ( again, it does by itself, you don’t even need to unassemble anything)
There are no buttons for capuchino or latter, but you pretty soon figure out what is the difference between them by measuring as much of coffee you want in your cup and how strong and how much frothy milk is required. Machine is quite big and you would need a space above it to continuously add water and coffee, so consider it first before buying it.

    Love it! 💖
