I had a patch in my garden and decided to fill it with fresh grass and came across this product. I’ve never sowed anything before in the garden so I was a complete novice. The product package states that you should ideally sow from the month of March but I was too eager to sow so I decided to sow in February. It went from being a muddy patch to how it is now (please see photos for reference). This product is absolutely fantastic. The grass is now really thick and still growing. For the first 7 days, I watered the area religiously and then I left it. On around the 9th day, I started to see the little grass sprouting. Rain was scheduled for that week so I left it to nature to water thr area for me as I became lazy. Even though I didn’t do it the conventional way, I was still able to get thick and healthy grass.
I had a the garden dug up and was left with an old piece of lawn surrounded by new lawn. At the joins there were bald patches. I dug up the stones and raked over the soil and sprinkled over the grass seed and put a thin layer of soil over it and watered generously for the next week. Shoots started to show after 4-7 days and after a month the two different lawns had begun to merge seamlessly. This was done over the sunny period last summer and I am pleased with the results. Will repeat this year over patches around the fences where I was “liberal” with weed killer!
At first I didn’t believe it was going to work as my garden is a tough one to grow grass but I’ve decided to give it a go. After a few days and following the instructions I could see grass starting to grow very fast, in 2 weeks my garden came back to be green again. If you follow the instructions everything should go well.
It does work but it takes longer than it says! Still worth it. I wish it would come with something to help to spread the seeds – so it gets more even distributed!

The only thing I have found is that this product grows far quicker then the remaining lawn and needs mowing a little more ofte
dubious as to what results might get but provided care in preparation and are kept moist good results in a few days.
Worked well when I used in summer 2nd pack later in year was a bit slower to germinate.
I needed to patch some patches of lawn where I’d enthusiastically removed weeds and thistles. I tried using just grass seeds and for whatever reason nothing happened. I used the Miracle-Gro and had fresh lawn spouting after 6-7 days. It was easy to use – just need to remember to water and look out for birds trying to get at the seed
There were many patches on different lawns that needed filling – 6-8 in total. All have now shown grass growth apart from one. Initially I thought the grass growth was a little sparse but it’s thickening out. I did water this daily (warmish weather) if there’d been no rain. Once grass was 1-2 cm I didn’t water unless no rain for 2-3 days, to encourage roots to go deeper. First cut was high, using a mower without a roller. Then normal cut (which I don’t have too short). I think I’ll be careful rest of the season about not turning the roller mower around over this new grass (it might pull out the new grass). If I were to do this again I think I would add some extra grass seed to where I put Patch Magic for thicker growth. A bit pricey but it has worked – more or less.
I have been using this product for a few weeks now. Seems to work well, although germination is a bit slower than advertised. Only time will tell how durable the grass seed is in the long term
This works wonders on bare patches caused by our dogs, but you do have to prepare the ground properly (remove the dead thatch, break up the soil, apply lawn top dressing), then seed and make sure it is watered regularly. If you let the seed / coir dry out, it doesn’t germinate. Top tip: gently tread the seed into the lawn top dressing to stop the seed from washing away when you water the seeded patch. Also need to keep the birds (especially Pigeons) off it, as they like to eat the grass seed!
We have a problem with moles. They cause havoc with the lawn. We have used several products to fill the gaps where the molehills have been, but found that Patch Magic works the best, and we have nearly got it back to normal. Unfortunately, the moles will be back in February- March, and we will have to start all over again. We have found that buying a large bag is more cost effective than smaller sizes.
Nice works well. Solved the brown patches the dog made in the lawn. Only wish I had ordered the bigger size.

Really pleased! I have a lawn full of moss and weeds, I am currently stripping the lawn of both by hand and sprinkling this product in the holes and patches left. Nothing for 3 days then magic! Lots of shoots wherever I have sprinkled the product. Protected the patches from birds and let the rain water the lawn. One nice day of sun and the magic happened! I will buy more!
I’ve used patch magic before and it worked quicker than growing ordinary seed. It is pretty pricey, and the mix does contain core and feed so the proportion of seed is fairly low, but works well and is more successful than seed.
Great, no hassle, just threw it down and went holiday. Came back to most patches filled.
I would say that the patches grow really fast so the lawn can look uneven at times.
This will level out over time I’m sure.
I don’t know what the bad reviews are for but this stuff is really good, as long as you water it everyday. The germination time was about 5-7 days and the grass is lovely and thick and strong. It’s done a great job and after 2 months I would challenge you to find where I have used it!
We had a new lawn laid and a dog so were suffering with lawn burn patches. We tried just seeding the lawn but that seemed to take ages. Within a week of using this patches have started to fill in.
This product does work, albeit the advertised timescales are a little ambitious. After around 2 weeks shoots appeared and were approx 2.5cm. Using patch magic has been more successful than ordinary grass seed with more of the mixture resulting in shoots, although is expensive if you are covering large areas.
We had some patches on the lawn from when we removed moss and also from a squirrel digging once. I had tried seed but it didn’t take so tried this and works a dream, grass looks really well now.
The change in my garden after two weeks was great. The lawn was patchy after weed removal. A good sprinkling of patch magic and regular watering left my lawn looking much thicker and greener. The picture says it all.
It does work!! but you have to be patient, you have to keep the seeds moist at all times but don’t wash them away and you have to avoid mowing anywhere near the seeds for about a month! This is vital!! But like growing anything not every seed will germinate it’s nature!!

Well I have tried several product but this seems to be the only one that has worked for me. It sprouted after a week .
I had to dig out quite large patches of couch grass from my lawn so used patch magic to fill the spaces. Within a matter of weeks the new grass has transformed the appearance of my lawn. Lush and green; it’s perfect for repairing tired or damaged lawns. Easy to apply and lawn recovery is very quick.
Great product, nice it is mixed with coir so if its hot it stays moist allowing the grass to grow, so far great results, you do have to prepare the ground first mind you or are throwing you money away
The few patches of this that I’ve got in my garden have produced by far the lushest green grass on my lawn. It ended up taking upwards of 3 weeks for it to show but once it did the grass it was producing was thicker and softer than all my other grass. The added feed makes it a lot better than regular grass seed.
Ill be honest, I was a bit sceptical BUT I was impressed after a bit of patience. Took longer than expected but the before and after pictures was a month between each other. Still not perfect but it’s getting there. Added a bit of top soil which helps. I do rate this. I use it in a very sun drought patches and they’re filling up. I would give it 4.5/5 if I could.
Had a few patches on my new lawn and this item is great, it has filled the areas in really well, made the grass thicker to. Took about a week to germinate. You only need a small amount on each patch as when the dry product is wet for the first time it expands to. Nice product, would by again.

I recently applied weed killer to very large patches of my lawn in a desperate attempt to kill off course grass that had blown in from a neighbouring property and was taking over my lawn.
The weed killer acted fast and completely killed the areas treated.
After a week or so, I applied Patch magic, and within 2 weeks the grass had started to appear. A couple more weeks down the line, and the new grass is lush and thick.

I am now on day 11 and still no sign of any grass. I have follwed the instructions perfectly. I also bought speedy grass seed and did a bald patch ( football mad children) using that and after a week the area was re grassed. Im still not giving up hope but i wouldnt buy it again. Im really dissapointed especially at the price.
This grass see has made my garden look like a bowling green! It’s amazing! Filled every patch I had in with it and also a new part of the lawn I had topsoiled it’s covered a lot of space! And came through quickly when planted in April!
The patch is working but for big areas better. If you apply the whole garden included small areas they are somehow is not affected. this was my first time and I tried the first run and took around 10 days to see some growth even with everyday watering. But after that, they are pretty good shape if they are grown. So I have to repatch again, maybe I will share some photos later.
Very good. Just make sure to follow instructions clearly. You need to dig up or rake the soil properly for it to really work. Used it on my lawn and within a couple weeks the soil patches had turned to lush grass.
Amazing. Guys I have a little grass after only 7 days. So happy for this purchase. Will be getting another bag for my little garden. Who ever says it’s not working might not got green thumbs or really messed up planting it as it’s so super easy to use – just throw it on and that’s it
Water every evening
We have a very weed-filled lawn, so we have started targeting small areas at a time, removing the weeds and planting seed.
First sowed on 9th May 2020. The first two pictures were taken on 15th May 2020 and that’s when the first few blades started to grow – so it took about a week to start seeing growth. The last two pictures were taken today on 24th May 2020, so you can see the difference really in about two weeks. We did also top up the seeds twice.
We watered as directed when the soil dried and turned light brown, so this was anywhere between once a day to three times a day. We also did not really dig over the area, just placed the seeds in the bald spots.
It’ll hopefully look even better next week, so overall very good and pleased with the result.
I found this product to do exactly as described.
By following the instructions to the letter, I had new grass appearing inside 10 days with good even coverage.
Cannot understand any negative comments? Perhaps not following the instructions?

Brilliant stuff, in a week grass popped up on all patches and within two weeks we have lovely plush grass. Definitely works faster and and better than normal seed. We covered the patches lightly with compost to stop birds taking the seed and to give it an extra boost of nutrients.

Large patches of dead grass! I had tried to add just normal grass seed but the birds ate it or it got washed away with watering. So I bought patch magic which is more expensive then grass see but it has done the job. Don’t worry if you don’t see anything after 4 days like the box says. It took 4 weeks for my grass to go from before and after and this was with daily watering and warm weather.
I bought two bags. If you want to cover 16m2 I would suggest to bags.
I would suggest to loosen up the ground with a fork before applying.
Wait for around 4 weeks and you should see some results. Don’t forget to water everyday
I don’t ever leave reviews on items to be honest but I felt the need to given the 1 star reviews I have seen. I thoroughly raked and prepared the ground as directed. Sprinkled this on and I didn’t cover with any top soil. Watered once a day. 9 days in and I have a tonne of new shoots. Covered a fairly large area. Will likely need more as I spread verily thinly. Will update in a further week with pictures. Definitely worked for me and would definitely recommend
Well what can I say, I’m glad I did buy it.
It was so easy to use, follow instructions basically scrape down to the top soil in the patchy area and just add a very thin covering of this patch magic.
I did water it everyday so it didn’t dry out as well. As you can see from the photos the results are great, the area was all down to the mud due to our puppy trying to dig holes in the grass. Also I have 2 big dogs when are constantly out in the garden so wasn’t sure if this would work. As you can imagine trying to keep dogs off the new area is a nightmare so I just left it.
This was done on the 1st of April so around a month ago, I’m very happy with the results so far I will now be using it on the rest of the garden. It still has a little more to grow but really happy with the results
At first I was sceptical and annoyed as nothing happened for the first 10 days of laying down. However after watering every evening, on the 10th day the grass started to sprout. After just over 2 weeks now the grass is about 3 inches long. Once it pushed through it grows very quick.

Great and easy to use just waiting to see the results. The only thing is be careful as the dirt comes out in dust clouds when your shaking it.
Great product and easy to use. Just remove the dead grass, ruff it up a little. Then spread this over the top and gently water in. Wait a week (mid summer) and make sure it stays damp and boom the new grass will shoot up! The new grass that grows up seems to be of good quality, thick and very green. Would recommend this to any dog owners
I thought I would have to turf my the damaged area of lawn, but I was wrong. This Miracle-Gro Patch Magic Grass Seed, Feed & Coir is a great product. You just have to prepare the ground and sprinkle it all over, then water it in and repeat this if it dies out, and after a while the new grass starts to grow. Now I’m looking at other areas that need repairing.
This is ok, I have used loads of grass seed over the years. Not too bad for the money but results were not “amazing”.
As long as you follow the instructions it works. I have dogs and use this quite regularly.

Amazing product. Used it on some dry patches in the garden. I used it as late as early September but I had grass come out in 7-10 days. Now around 20 days old, they are growing strong and green. Thoroughly recommended
New grass started showing just 4-5 after sowing and 2 weeks later a thick green grass was completely covering the previously completely bold patch… A bit pricey..

The Patch Magic is to try and repair damage done to my lawn by another manufacturers Weed & Feed product. Some signs of grass appearing but far too early to make a reasonable assessment of the product and its value for money. Lawn seed germination is at the mercy of the weather.
Purchased this when was on special (was around a tenner) and for that price I’m very happy with the product. Was fairly quick and easy to apply. New grass grew in all locations I used the seed and started to grow after 5-6 days on first patches and after about 10 days on the last patches. Very happy with the product, considering the price I paid.
Tried several other brands with no success – this actually worked. Not totally perfect so will try a second pack for the harder parts, but really has invigorated the patches
Did just what it said it would. Lawn looks good.
I didnt really know what the best product to go for was, but as this was kind of an “all in 1” I thought Id start with this; and I have to say Im really happy with it; the grass was sprouting within 3 days, the patches “filled” in 2 weeks (though the grass was still very tender and could easily be pulled out with no resistance for up to 4 weeks. (I tried going over a very small area when mowing the lawn – it just tore the new patch right out the ground and I had to re-retreat it!)
8 weeks later though, its as though there was never any damage. The only thing that makes it stand out as being “repaired”, is that in the two treated areas, the grass is a significantly lighter green and the blades are notably thicker (though my guess is that the seed used in this is a different grass species to my original turf – and that over time, as the lawn continues to mature and seed itself, this will blend out a bit so will be less striking). Personally Im not THAT bothered by this – it looks a damn sight better than the dead brown! but in hindsight, I would maybe have tried to scatter some of this into the healthy lawn too, so the new and old grasses blended less obviously. Meh. Point is, might just be worth checking your grass species if this sort of thing is likely to wind you up!
My ONE tiny grumble is that for the cost, you dont get a huge amount, but then you are supposed to use this as a patch treatment – not a full lawn cover; its just that if you have a large lawn or several patches to treat it could turn out quite costly.
That being said, for small patches I would 100% recommend it, and I wouldnt hesitate to buy it again if another fox incident occurs!
My lawn was looking very patchy so bought and applied this Patch Magic for two weeks. Things are looking up, everyday the patches are becoming less and less I’ve still got a lot of work to do on my lawn, but this has worked wonders.
I highly recommend this grass seed. Sure it’s not the cheapest BUT I have been trying to re-seed the side of a fairly steep dry ditch (around 60 degree slope). After several attempts with ordinary seed, which had either failed or got washed away after rain, I decided to give this a try. I sowed the seed and after 4 days it has not only started growing but is already around 2 cm tall – I can’t believe it! Expensive compared to ordinary seed? Yes. BUT if you want something for either small or difficult areas then this is your product.
Unfortunately didn’t work… only as dog kept peeing over same area.
I have used this product to completely replace my old lawn, with very good results. I now have a lovely new lawn that is all the same colour and nice quality grass, worked out expensive but worth it for the results achieved.
Before our oldest dog died I had to carry her in and out of our front garden as she couldn’t make it up and down the back steps to a stoned area at the rear of our house. After she was put to sleep we were left with around 20 brown patches where she had relieved herself. patch magic is absolutely brilliant and germinates in 4 days . I would recommend it as my lawn is great on all the yellow patches left from two dogs .. dig the dead grass out apply patch magic water and flatten , don’t let it dry out and in 4 days new grass appears.

I did and it did.
I really like Patch Magic and have been using it for years. Definitely a more immediate way to fill those lawns holes than the traditional turn over / rake / grass seed / top soil method. If it takes (and it doesn’t always, particularly if you have cats and foxes about – they love to poop on it), it’s really robust grass. Doesn’t do quite so well in shaded areas in my experience, but if you keep a close eye on it and water it regularly it’s works well.

Expensive but works very well. Patched a large bit of grass where a tree was removed. Grass lush but must be kept watered. Now makes the rest of the lawn look rubbish.
Where it does grow, the grass is thick and long standing. Bought two tubs of this as previous tub worked and filled in most gaps but needed more for a second attempt.
So ended up with some rather bald patches after I raked it out.
Planted these end of August (20th) and watered daily. It took them a few days to sprout and were growing quite well by the 28th.
I’ve just cut the grass for the first time since planting (10th Sept) and all looks well. I can still see a few seeds that hasn’t propagated yet but am hopeful that they will eventually. So it’s still looking a bit bald compared to the bits surrounding it but lots better than before.

I don’t think we have given this magic dog spot repair a chance really, we have a newly layer lawn with one large dog and 2 small dogs on not really a large lawn, with them them keep peeing on it, the routes have really had a chance to get going, then the weather turned really hot, we had to keep watering the lawn , so we have given up. Come autumn when the weather changes to RAIN we will try again before the frost starts
Seems to very short in actual grass seed, very thin cover within coir mix, shaken to mix no improvement
Revised this review as the final result with a little bit of patience and ‘scratching’ the surface more thoroughly resulted in excellent result of very well filled patch
Expensive but probably worth it, especially in hot weather when patch will dry out quickly – this will hold the water for longer, and my patches are growing nicely!! Other patches using cheaper product it doing as well. I’ll probably end up buying this again despite price.
I always use this for patches that need renewing after dogs have ruined patches or where I’ve raked up lots of moss and it leaves gaps.
Update – Photo is a patch that I did before the drought, I keep watering so it won’t die, need rain for the rest now.
This works as well as anything I have used. I have a Enish Bull Mstiff so big brown patches. I still have to use it several times for good results.
hmmm, tried re-seeding using this and not . The seed definately germinated better using this than not, just not enough in the pack. I don’t think it covers as many spots as it says it will. So.. I have used this with added normal quick germinating seed and that seems to work. I would buy again though, would just like a refill pack or something bigger, we have 2 dogs, a bitch and a pup both squat to pee, so plenty of brown spots 🙁

This has actually worked for us. I was a bit worried about purchasing it after all the negative reviews on here, but we’ve got some new grass coming through about 2 weeks after I put it down. Every time the mixture turns a lighter brown it needs watering again – if you’re watering the grass regularly it all helps. I’m very pleased we’ve finally managed to sort out some of the patches and I’ve just ordered some more.

It works really well but you really do need to keep it watered when the patch looks light brown. Only slight problem is that when established the grass continues to grow faster and thicker than surrounding area so you get a tufty look.
This is my second go with this and although the first attempt was successful, I felt the growth was not very strong – but wanted to give it another try. OK, 2 months on i’m converted. This is not magic, but bloomin good grass seed. I have filled a few patches on both front and rear lawns with success, but also managed to grow in an area that was problematic. Shady, dry, sheltered and surrounded buy plants and trees – I now have grass. Conventional turfs gave up, cheaper seed did not take this is very good indeed. I’ll be ordering more very soon.
Read a lot of reviews and the Which.com buying guide for best products to use. My grass was EXTREMELY patchy and none existent in places thanks to my two Boxers.
I used a bucket and mixed in the seed and some fresh soil, put a thin layer of the mixture over the worst patches as a test run. (The ground was wet and raked) Trod in the mix and watered it. Within 7 days new strands were growing! (The ground was in bad condition I didn’t want to risk no growth hence I added a bit of fresh soil – this isn’t essential but it worked for me)

Love this stuff! Had really, really bad moss. Left me with loads of bare parches and this has been a godsend. Keep watering and watch it grow. Much cheaper and easier than getting new turf
My lawn was damaged by possibly salt on 14th May 2012. I used Miracle-Grow and can recommend that it does exactly what it promises. My lawn is now back to normal again and can even be mown. That is in six weeks. I should have bought a smaller amount as I have some left over and shall use it under the hedges too where the grass is dying. It probably helped that we have had a lot of rain in the last month ! Retired farmer’s wife.
Patch magic works incredibly well as listed on the bag. This has covered the bare patches where there had originally been only moss or bare earth. I have recommended this to a number of people and will be buying more for other areas.
I bought this to seed around stepping stones I installed to replace a compressed gravel pathway. There was still a lot of gravel stuff in the soil so I was hoping that this might do a better job than ordinary grass seed alone.
The result has been very good. Just basic preparation, sewed in early August, first shoots appeared appeared in seven days after regular evening watering – and after three weeks a lush spread of thick grass in the seeded area (despite the close attention of my three cairn terriers).
I probably used a bit more than neccessary and it is quite pricey – but I’m delighted with the results
