If any of you have every traveled to the Australian red centre you will understand the importance of having a fly net like this one! It allows you to walk talk and keep eyes and ears free from the millions of flies! Comfortable to wear, keep sun off your head and stops you from over heating or getting heat stroke! Very reasonably priced.
his “Mosquito Head Net Mesh Hat” can be useful. Is fresh and lightweight but a bit bulky at some point.
The net is transpirable and is easy to breathe inside, you get used to easier than I expected.
The quality is fine and the size of the head can be adjusted, the hat is fresh and foldable and lightweight.
But if you don’t want to use the net and just the hat is a bit tricky, anyway the hat protects from mosquito with is the important part.
They are many colours to choose from too, it is a useful hat and I recommend it.
This hat feels quite solid and has a drawstring to adjust the size around the brim. I have quite a large head and at its loosest this fits me quite snugly. If you have a head circumference around the upper limit (about 60cm) then it may be tight and I would not want this any smaller than it is. When not required the net is stored within the hat brim. To release the net, you simply undo a zip that runs around the brim and pull the net down. The net comes down a good distance and has a draw string at the bottom which can be tightened to reduce the chance of insects getting in underneath. Visibility through the netting is fine. It was easy to roll the net back up and zip it back up, making sure that you don’t catch the netting in the zip. The zip does not look the most robust that I have seen but seems to do the job. As you would expect with this style of hat air movement through the net is slightly restricted so it will get hot inside on a hot day. It does have a breathable mesh so that air can get into the top of the hat for ventilation, an adjustable chin strap and it is rated UPF50+ to give you sun protection. I like the fact that it can easily be folded and stored in a ruck sack etc when not needed. This does do a good job of keeping the mosquitos out.
I was pleasantly surprised by this hat. It’s really very well made and has a good quality mesh to protect your face from midges etc.
I found that it fitted really well and was comfortable too. The net can used or not it’s up to you.
So for the price I think this is excellent value and I’d buy more in other colours.
Last Summer we were plagued by lots of mosquitoes in our garden and it became rather a problem particularly when trying to mow the lawn. Now I may be exaggerating a bit when I refer to our weed infested patch as a lawn but I am not when it comes to the mosquitoes!
I am not a fan of chemical repellents and with the weather getting warmer I was not looking forward to working in the garden because I knew that I was sure to get bitten unless I covered myself in “essence of lemon” (mosquito spray tends to smell strongly of lemons).
This black sun hat will prove to be a very practical solution for me and I can see that it will be ideal for various outdoor activities. The manufacturers have very cleverly designed the wired brim with a zip all the way around which opens to reveal a net which drops down to cover both face and neck. The net itself has a drawstring at the bottom so I can tighten it to keep the pesky little critters at bay, or at least off my head!
I have found that I can easily replace the net into the brim but the open ended zip was a little tricky and it took me a couple of attempts to make sure that the starting point was correctly aligned.
I thought this hat held its shape well because it has a wired brim and the headband was adjustable so it fitted well. It may look a bit weird down the pub when so I will have to remember remove before entering the establishment’s lounge!
This product is well made and, because of the fairly complex structure a very reasonable price at around 14, so the mozzie-deterrent gets a well netted 5 Stars from me. Hopefully this year’s garden activities will be a bit more pleasant and bite-free!
The hat came all crumpled up in a bag, so not quite as good looking as in the picture’s. Slightly tight fit on the head.
Positives, very nice netting. After flattening out the hat it works great, perfect for mige season when I head up to Scotland!
i got this as our loft has a problem with insects due to being unoccupied for several years and I kept getting stung and bit when trying to clear it out. this worked this a charm and offered fantastic protection.
I have a small bee hive and this works pretty well to avoid stings. The hat is a little small, but aside from that very good
Mosquito Head Net Mesh Hat.
This clever hat has the mesh net zipped away in the brim. This is useful for when you don’t need it.
Comes with chin string strap and a toggle to pull the bottom of the mesh in tight.
I have just become the proud owner of a bee hive, so this will come in useful. No bees yet, so couldn’t finish testing this.
So I actually got this hat for my son who suffers from anxiety and recently he has been worried he will get stung by a bee or a wasp and he’s stopped playing out. The hat is good quality, it is a one size fits all – fitting my son well but also me and my husband. It has air pockets around the headline so it keeps you cool, the net is well fitted. The hat has a toggle to pull to fit the hat to your head so it can’t blow off and there’s also a toggle around the bottom of the net should you wish to tighten that.
My son has wore this hat several times, he enjoys wearing it and it’s gave him the confidence to be outside and explore. We recently went to a nature reserve where he was relaxed and happy to explore which is a vast improvement on how he was without the hat.
I am completely satisfied with the quality of this hat and am more than happy to recommend to others. Great if like my son you don’t like stinging insects or indeed you want to protect yourself from midges and mosquitos.
The amount of flying insects in the wood could be quite a bit, especially Summer.
This is just the hat for it.
You can have a UV protection before entering and let the net down when you are in it.
Great for dog walkers or going camping/hiking.
Mosquito Mesh Hat.
A very clever all in one hat that protect you from the sun and protect you from bugs like mosquitoes gnats, midges and wasps etc.
The net is stored in the brim of the hat to release it all you do is undo/unzip all the way around until the zip comes undone then drop down the Net and tighten/secure with the toggle at the bottom.
Once you are finished with the net just roll it all back up in to the brim while reconnecting the zip it’s as easy and convenient as that.
Up in our neck of the woods, here in rural Scotland, this insect head net is vital equipment, not for protection from mosquito’s you understand but from the scourge of the highlands — the dreaded midge. Without some form of protection, the summer months can and invariably do, bring misery to many people and I’m sure many a holidaymaker has returned home with tales of the legendary ferocity of these tiny beasties. This net will be a much appreciated accessory for my wife who suffers most from their bites.
The hat is manufactured from 100% nylon and looks to be of a tough and robust construction. The hat is comfortable to wear, roomy and very breathable. There is a good length of netting attached to the hat and this can be held in place using the integral drawstring. The netting, although not detachable, can be rolled up and allowed to just sit on the brim; I’m not sure how well this system will work especially during windy periods.
In summary, this is a decent enough mesh hat and I’ve no doubt will do its job admirably. However, I have a feeling that just laying the netting rolled up on the brim of the hat when not in use is not going to work out to well and that the hat would have benefited from some more secure means of keeping the netting tucked out of the way, be that by zippered pouch or some other design.
This is the perfect hat for the garden. The net wasn’t really necessary at the time of year yet so you have the option to roll it out the way. The hat itself is comfortable and great for when I go fishing as well. It does a good job at protecting me from the sun. There is a chin strap which I don’t use. The hat is comfortable to wear, and the material is nylon, so it dries quick and is very durable. I like the hat and it serves the intended purpose well.
Beautiful and modern design. The sewing is very good. Net is strong and durable. You can breathe easely. It is comfortable and look nice gives a very good protection from sun and insects.
Mrs Gumby seems particularly attractive to flies. This hat appears to keep them away, when she’s gardening (which is most of the time!). It’s a good sun hat too, although isn’t exactly fashionable! It fits well and stays on, comfortable enough to use for a few hours if necessary. She’d rather not have to wear it, of course, but is very happy to tolerate mild inconvenience in return for a bite-free face and neck.
I’m not sure that this is the most aesthetically pleasing type of thing you could get but in terms of protection etc you can’t go wrong with this.
It fits my large dome so should be ok for most people. It’s well put together and doesn’t feel as if it is going to come apart after a couple of uses or anything like that. Great at keeping the midges etc off your face if you are troubled by that where you are living/going/staying. Still a lot of breathablility there and you can still see where you are going too!
As a bonus the sun hat can protect your balding pate if you’re anything like me as well!
This is a versatile mesh hat which can serve as either keeping out insects or protecting your face from grass or dirt when lawn mowing or gardening. It would be useful to use when camping, hiking or fishing and is comfortable to wear even for several hours. It is completely breathable and is a universal fit.
This is going to make a huge difference this year. We live in Scotland, land of the midges. For people who are not familiar with midges they look like tiny little black flies, they are in fact ferocious crazy annoying vicious wee beasties. I react very badly to midge bites, over the counter products don’t help, I have to take prescription strength antihistamine every year and even then it only calms it a little.
This is a well-made hat and net, the hat fits me perfectly, I chose the green to match my walking trousers that I wear when hiking. The net sits so much better than the nets you get without a hat, it is far enough away from the face to not be annoying and it sits well down to the shoulders, or you can tighten the drawstring around the neck which I will do as the wee beasties can get in anywhere.
When the midges are sleeping the net can be zipped into the brim of the hat.
As well as keeping biting insects at bay the hat acts as a sunhat too. It will get lots of use this year as the midge season has started early. Good quality, good design.
Mosquito Head Net Mesh Hat
=====================
This is purely a functional hat – don’t let the pics fool you, you won’t look anywhere like they do in the listing pics, and you will rapidly lose any street cred and friends if you tried wearing this in most places. I am using this as our hedges are 12-14 feet high and even though I wear goggles when cutting, I hate the clippings going in my face, plus I’m not a big fan of spiders either.
I’m so haply to have this hat. It’s great quality, size, colour and its very functional. It comes with detachable chin strap and the mesh which is stuffed inside the brim of the hat. We can release the zip and take the mesh out when needed. Hat is little oversized but it has drawstring to help adjust the size. The mesh sides are also there for letting the air cool our head.
It’s perfect for going fishing, picking fruits, etc. I really like it.
I wish to heaven I had had this during all the times I have been chased and eaten alive by midges in Scotland. It always seems to be Scotland.
It’s brilliant, easy to breathe and see through, and a very snug fit around the head so none of the more determined critters can crawl in.
I really like the chin strap and the fact the hat folds up.
I volunteer in a woods and will try it there too for the times when gnats make a beeline for my head and forehead. Why? Why? The green is the perfect colour for the woods, and if the veil isn’t needed at that moment it can just be lifted back onto the hat.
We have a section of stream and woodland which is a joy to sit beside in the summer apart from the flies – we have some of worst: large, biters and I’m sure they sharpen their teeth when they see us approach. So, we need to wear hats such as this together with tough clothing and gloves.
I always wear a hat with drop-down fly mesh. This hat has a different design to those I’ve previously used and it works well: the hat has a zippered section within the 8cm brim into which the drop-down netting is stuffed. With the zip closed, the hat looks like any other typical sun hat with floppy brim but on unzipping it, the netting falls easily and generously over the head and shoulders with an adjustable drawcord at the foot.
The mesh is lightweight, breathable, is see-through for the wearer and of a gauge which will keep most flies from the wearer. The exception might be the infamous Scottish midges which are deterred by only the finest mesh and I will need to wait until June-July to put it to the test.
With the mesh dropped down, the inner brim must then be tucked into the pocket around the main underside brim otherwise it hangs over the face. The inner brim secures it well although it does feel a little bulky but this is inevitable with this hat design.
I have a 57.5cm circumference head and this fits well although is quite deep so I needed to adjust it slightly to tighten it using the elasticated drawstring adjustment on the back.
The hat is ventilated around the sides and rear for breathability, has a very welcome chin strap to ensure it doesn’t blow away in seaside gusts and is very lightweight. Stitching is neat and tidy throughout and it is well made and well-designed. good, versatile hat offering fair value for 15.99. I’m also very pleased to see it available in lighter colours rather than just black, camouflage or khaki and many similar hats are.
I’m pleasantly surprised how clever this hat has been made. It comes folded in 4 and simple reshape is needed to make it usable. The rim has flexible wire inside we can shape it to the way we need. Hat comes with chin strap so in case of strong wind the hat will not fly away.
What’s the beat about this hat is that the mesh is zipped in within the brim of the hat so no tricky detaching or removing of the mesh is needed, simply unzip the zip around the brim and let the mesh down on your shoulders. When mesh is not needed we can simply pack it away in the same place-the brim. Hat has also breathable mesh around the head for air circulation. If the hat is to big for you, there is drawstring to adjust to your head size.
This hat is practical, lightweight, easy to clean and the bright colour will not attract to much of sun rays. Bright mesh is better in my opinion as I can see better through it, that’s the reason I picked the brightest colour from the few others available here.
Hat is great at protecting against insects. This will come in handy for those family members who work in the plantation.
I’m happy with this hat, it’s great and worth having.
This hat works well. The net drops down fairly easy and sits over your shoulders which can be tightened if required. I dropped a star simply because the brim of the hat struggles to take shape, doesn’t effect the functionality of the net but makes it look cheap but more so it drops down slightly below my eyes which just annoys me. The hat is comfortable when the brim doesn’t sit too low and mesh vents on the rear of the hat allow some ventilation. 5 stars for keeping the winged vampire flies out 4 stars on aesthetics.
We spend a quite a lot of time in the Highlands of Scotland, which are wonderful in every way – every except one, the midges. In still summer conditions they get in your hair, your ears, eyes – everywhere in clouds of biting misery. We have tried nets to put over your head before and they do work – except that the net falls across your face, making vision restricted, not least because the cloud of midges then hover just away from your face.
The beauty of this hat is that the net can be stored easily in the brim, and when it is released it covers your head, face, neck and at least part of your shoulders – with the brim giving you good clearance between your face and the small biting monsters. The hat is also protective against the sun, rolls up to take little space and weighs next to nothing. Absolutely delighted. Hat 1, Biting Monsters 0
You won’t win any fashion competitions wearing this but it could become invaluable for wearing in the forest in the summer months , when the gnats, mosquitos, midges and horse flies come out to play.
Its well made , it’s Ventilated, it fastens well , it’s a nice natural green colour and has a stowaway bug net that you can bring down to protect your face and neck being attacked by the little vampires.
I do a lot of woodland camping, I will definitely be bringing this on my woodland camps in the warmer months , the clouds of gnats can become almost unbearable.
I don’t mind wearing a hat like this to stop the bugs having their way , you can still see through the mesh and you can still breath OK, but it will stop the bugs landing on your face and biting you.
It’s not the most stylish of hats , but it’s a good fit , it also gives you some protection from the sun’s rays too.
This hat will come in handy for campers, fishermen, farmers, gardeners , forestry workers , it’s a nice natural colour too.
In the north west of Scotland the midges can be terrible from June to August. In some years a midge hat is a necessity if you are going to work outdoors on calm, dull days.
With one exception this is the best midge hat I’ve used. The good points are:
* a ventilated crown with an inner liner to help keep your head cool
* the soft brim, though sufficient to hold the net away from your face
* the net is a good length and so can easily be tucked into the top of a shirt or under the collar
* a good range of colours (and the blue is rather a nice change from the more normal greens and browns)
I’ve compared it to both a brimless bag net that goes directly over your head – these are horrible as the net lies against your face and they feel very claustrophobic (though pack away to the size of a golf ball) – and to a brimmed hat with a wire edge to the brim (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lifesystems-Midge-Mosquito-Head-Net/dp/B000PBTSH0). This beats both by a comfortable distance … except
* 58 cm is the absolute maximum head size the hat can accommodate. Don’t think “I’m 59 cm, it’ll be OK”. It won’t. I have a head circumference of 59 cm and it could only be worn by forcing the hat in place, and it was uncomfortable (despite being rather soft around the part that contacts the head).
Fortunately, my wife likes the colour and it fits perfectly … I’ll be the one next to her wearing the shapeless, claustrophobic bag.
If the size is right then this is a great choice. A few quid more than some other hats, but more comfortable and more stylish (if anything like this is ever stylish).
I would not recommend it be used for beekeeping. The mesh is lightweight and easily gets blown against your face. A proper beekeeping veil should be held away from your face, even in a strong breeze. There are also vents in the crown which bees could access.
