Good quality robot vacuum cleaner. Please remember this is to help you with cleaning, but will not clean every corner. It cleans effectively, with good suction and two power settings. Have got many sensors and will not drop down the stairs. After initial scanning of each floor plan it will then detect automatically on which floor he actually is. You can choose which room you want him to clean. The speed of cleaning is around 1sq meter per minute. The app is very good, you can use it even if you are not at home (eg. you can tell Neato to start cleaning while you are at work). Robot is quite noisy but effective. It’s worth to consider buying a another charging base if you have got second floor.

I can recommend that robot vacuum cleaner.

I wanted to write this review to express my thanks for the customer support of Neato!

While the robot is fantastic, cleans both hard floors and carpets to an excellenet standard for every day, it does not substitute a proper vaccum cleaner. It is fantastic for everyday use! Kitchen and living room will be free from crumbles and hair and dust, while carpets remain pleasantly clean! You might even push your regular deep(er) cleaning back a few days or weeks. Really pleased with the robot.

Also very sattisfied with the customer care! Like every product, you might find faults after a while, and so it happened with ours. The bumper (with the sensors) got stuck at some point, which meant that the robot thought it was touching the wall/surface, leading to an error message. Got in touch with the support and they were very helpful and responsive in helping me do some diagnostic and basic steps to try to solve it. After we established that it needed a repair, they arranged for DPD to collect it, they fixed it and returned it back! The whole process took only a few days. Really happy with the purchase!

In terms of smart integration, I “wrote” my own Apple shortcut to clean a specific zone of the house which was handy, don’t use it that much in the end. We do have an Alexa speaker but I didn’t bother with the skill. No idea about Google Home though. I haven’t looked too much into HomeKit integration, but I presume it’s not possible. The app is quite handy, both when in the same WiFi and when you are remotely activating it, so I’ve been using that.

I’m living with Husky so you can imagine that pet hair is my worst enemy. Even my normal hover has problem with that. I can recommend this robot to anyone having a pet and A LOT OF pet hair. I specifically bought it for that, haven’t had I have Husky I would probably buy something else.

    Pros:
    – Good suction for being a robot
    – Pet hair are no problem
    – Really good at climbing over obstacles

    Cons:
    – The app… Neato used to be the leader but then the concurrency catched up and now it’s reaaly behind
    – Sometimes it doesn’t start cleaning on schedule because you moved some item close to its Dock station and the robot “doesn’t know where he is”
    – No front camera = it runs into a sock and it gets stuck. It gets stuck on these items quite often. A front camera like on the Xiaomi would be really beneficial

I’m really really happy with my purchase. I have a toddler and a cat (which was the main reason for getting this vacum). I had actually just finished vacuming the floor when the Neato arrived, I was shocked to find how much dust it still managed to get. It’s an excellent complement to normal vacuming and you can just ask Alexa to make it work. I really wanted the Neato because of the D shape which I find is really helpful when going to harder corners. I haven’t used the no go zones yet so can’t review on that. My flooring is mainly laminate with some carpets here and there and it just works (also have tiles in the kitchen and corridor). It tends to get stuck behind some furniture as it manages to get in and then can’t come out, so when I know the area is clean I just put the chairs next to it to ensure it won’t go and get stuck there. I use it several times a day and it always gets a lot of rubbish.
Regarding the navigation system which for the price range is meant to be one of the best I have my doubts, it takes the longest route sometimes to get back to the base. Also, I use it in the upper floor but I don’t bother to take the base, I just put it upstairs and let it clean, if it’s not the most efficient way I don’t care as long as it cleans.
We love it so much we gave it a name: Isaura, and even we created a verb: “Isaura needs to go Isauring” hahahah, seriously it just works and will make life easier for you.

Recommend, seriously great bot to keep hard floors free of daily debris. Works well with pet hair picking up a lot on daily run. Zones and no go lines mean we can set it to do a quick vacuum of kitchen debris and cat hair ring fencing food bowls and day area rugs so it doesn’t get stuck. The limiting issue with these is small dustbin compared to a normal vacuum so needs emptying every couple of days and doesn’t replace a proper clean. The small bin size makes it less useful on carpets – works really well but needs emptying 2-3 times in a clean. Excellent for hard floors

Having bought a Botvac Connected Neato vacuum 4 years ago, I thought I’d give this a go as an additional hoover for our upstairs part of the house.
The Botvac is still going with no problems either, which is great !

    Really impressive overall.
Aesthetically nice looking, no buttons on front unlike the Botvac connected version, it has lights under the plastic housing that show through when turned on, nice touch.
Nice brushed metal look to the outside chassis.
Otherwise the looks are quite similar.

The suction power has been uprated over the older model and although not Dyson or Shark level, it’s very capable.
I’ve certainly not had to re run the vacuum over areas where it hasn’t cleaned properly.

Having it Alexa integrated is great, as Alexa will give you the option of which vacuum you want to start, when you ask “Neato to start cleaning”, very easy and clear.
On the Neato app you can just add it to your collection of robots, setup the Wi-Fi and you’re ready to go.

Manual controls are also available should you need to direct it to an area that needs a specific attention, you can also use spot clean but this can be a bigger area than you need sometimes, good option to have either available.

It’s also as easy to clean as the older model, filters and roller easily pulls out, with obvious clips for the roller.
Same sized bin and hygienic to empty, without having to get your hand in there to clean it out.

Being the pet edition, it also picks up pet hair well, I didn’t know how well this would perform but does seem to suck up a lot of our dogs short hair with no issues at all.

I also love the zoning options of the vacuum which wasn’t available with the older version, very useful if you want it to stick to certain rooms, a welcomed upgrade

The scheduling feature is also very useful, having it turn on with a routine is great, just make sure there are no wires or similar stuff on the floor, otherwise it will try and eat them!

Battery power is decent, running for about 30 mins and then going back to the docking station by itself to recharge, before coming back out again, to finish the job.

Very pleased, a great addition to the family !

Etwas handwerkliches Geschick ist also erforderlich. Englischsprachige Videoanleitungen finden sich auf Youtube.

Sehr gute Navigation durch die Wohnung

After a great deal of research, I settled on the Neato D7 in large part due to the D shape design. The latest Roomba model is now also in a D shape and looking at the underside, it’s clear to see that the length of the roller bar is much greater than on the round models.
It’s my first robot vacuum so I can’t compare against any others but first impressions are great.

The floor mapping function works very well. My whole ground floor was mapped perfectly and I have created zones for the lounge, hallway, cloakroom, kitchen and utility. I also have a smaller kitchen zone within the larger kitchen zone for the cooking area as this gets more dirt and debris from cooking etc.

Whilst the Xmas tree was up, we used a no go line drawn on the mobile app to stop the D7 from interfering with the tree and cbales for the lights. This works perfectly.

We are lucky that the D7 can fit underneath our sofa so the charging dock is actually well hidden against the wall under the sofa. I would recommend ensuring access is available as moving the sofa to get at it can be annoying.

It’s a shame you need a second dock to map another floor and for this reason we haven’t yet mapped our top floor. It isn’t proving to be much of an issue however as we can just take the D7 upstairs and set it off to clean with no map. It still does an excellent job of navigating and we can just close any doors to rooms that aren’t that tidy.

It cleverly returns to where it started from showing and still gives a perfect map of where it has cleaned at the end. So far, we are just cleaning the upstairs using this mode and when done, putting it back on the dock downstairs to recharge.

Downstairs cleaning we have on a schedule and have gotten used to prepping the areas in advance by moving the cat food bowls and a few other bits. Yes, we could set no go lines but we prefer to do it this way.

My only feature request would be the ability to have the D7 clean multiple floor zones as currently you can only do one at a time. It would be nice to have it clean the hallway and smaller kitchen zone on demand in a single action. Right now, we have to clean the hallway and wait for it to drive itself back to the dock before setting it off again.

It’s not a big deal though. It’s still a very endearing machine and watching it dutifully navigate its way abck to base after cleaning a zone is still fun to watch even now. The navigation around random obtacles is excellent so if a chair is in a different spot or something else is in the way, it doesn’t throw a spanner in the works.

When we first had it do the carpets upstairs, on turbo mode, it picked up a crazy amount of dust etc. I sent it round a further two times and it was still picking stuff up. Even downstairs, we are always amazed at how full the bin is after each run. Where does that dust come from?

All in all, highly recommended. I was really on the fence about whether or not a robot vacuum would be worth the investment but like so many other reviewers it is 100% worth it.

I’m a bit on the fence about the filters. Having to replace them and dispose of them isn’t very environmental, so currently, I am trying to vacuum out the dust in the filter in an effort to prolong the life. I have seen others using tights as pre-filters but have not yet tried this. I think the recommendation to replace every couple of months would be if they weren’t attended to and despite the design not supporting cleaning, so far, I have removed much of the accumulated filter dust by using the normal vacuum cleaner.

The pictures show our carpets after “Roxy” had been round today! Great work.

What a great time and effort saver!!!

This has the most powerful suction / cleanest carpets I’ve seen. It’s easy to empty and replace the bin. Very long battery life! The brush is easy to remove, clean and replace and so is the air filter. This is way way better than my previous Roombas. It’s well designed and it’s easy to use. The side brush is quite small but neat o. Works great on laminate, hard floors and carpets. I use it every day. It knows where its docking station is but doesn’t always go to it though, (mostly likely my fault).

Unfortunately it can’t get under my settee or tv unit, but I forgive it. App a little glitchy at first connecting to Wi-Fi and naming the robot via an iPad, but I put it on my mobile (iPhone X) and it worked perfectly. I then deleted and reinstalled the app on my iPad and it’s working fine.

It’s noisy and really powerful, I love it TBH. I see it more of a jet fighter / vacuum – wait till you hear the noise it makes! 🙂

*I’ve just linked my Neato account with Alexa – wow – It’s amazing!* – “Alexa, ask Neato to start cleaning”.

Expensive but highly recommended! The D750 is more expensive because it includes spare filters/brushes.

Powerful, Intense Cleaning and It's Smart!

I’m very impressed by the d750 vacuum cleaner. The first few times I just followed it around the house in amazement to make sure it got everywhere. It did, it made a complete clean of our two-story house. I was surprised at how much dust it managed to extract from the carpet. It works in a very methodical manner, first working at the perimeter and then going across the middle of the room. it does seem to get every part, and has yet to get stuck. It just looks smart when it’s working – like it knows what it’s doing. It will pick up 95% of the mess each time, it’s not quite as good as a manual upright vacuum, but I’d say it’s close enough and considering that we now run this on alternating days between the bottom and top floor of our house, our house is never looked so clean. I’m very impressed, and I consider this to be the best thing we’ve purchased this year I’m represents a massive time-saving in terms of vacuum requirements. It’s quite enough that I don’t mind it vacuuming in the room while I’m working at the computer. The Google home integration is really cool too and the app is very handy particularly now I can just ask it to go and clean the kitchen and it will before going home. Set up to the router was very quick also

Questo robot a Me sembra superlativo.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersReally pleased with this vacuum! Did a lot of research before opting for this one to replace an old, cheaper non-branded robot vacuum that died. The old one never seemed to clean that well anyway, so was dubious about replacing it at all, but I’m so glad I did! This does a great job of vacuuming – floors look as good as if I’d done it myself with a normal vacuum cleaner.

We don’t have pets or kids, so it doesn’t have tough things to contend with, but it’s brilliant with our mixture of low-pile rugs/laminate floors, and the low-pile carpets upstairs. Floor-mapping is great, and the no-go lines are a really good feature. (Our old one had a separate infra-red barrier thing that always ran out of batteries quickly and then the robot would wreak havoc on the wires behind the TV! The app-integrated lines is a much better solution.)

Not had the problems with WiFi connection that others have described. Works fine and connected up easily to the app and our smart assistant. (I won’t name it…but it’s the other main one that isn’t Alexa!)

We’ve named our robot vac ‘Wadsworth’ and, if you get the reference, we just might become best friends…

Used for downstairs, mainly hard flooring with some short pile rugs this is brilliant. With a large dog & a cat, used daily it’s surprising how much it collects. Recommended. D701 or D750…either would be the same for pets, don’t be fooled by their marketing ploy, same machine as far as I can tell with extras that you can easily buy if needed. Works well with Google home.

Absolutely blown away by “victor”, saved my sanity. Having 3 dogs and a lot of wood floors I had constant tumble weeds and dirt and dust from outside coming in. No more! I’ve gained an hour I’d my day back thanks to him.
He can’t get into all the nooks and crannies but for everyday keeping on top of it he’s great.
I bought a second base so he could do both floors of the house, works perfect.
Only down side is there’s no way to clean the filter of dust and dirt,I feel this but will get expensive.

having owned a cheaper robot cleaner already which was a little disappointing in some ways I decided to give this one a try to see if the extra money was worth it.
After using it for a month I can honestly say its performance has been pretty much flawless. The app is reliable and robust, and the cleaners navigation system is fantastic. It cleans the ground floor in just over 30 minutes. That is living room, hallway dining room and kitchen. Only complaint really is the size of the dirt collector. It is very small and does need emptying several times a week.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI already owned an iRobot and Dyson robot vacuum cleaner, and was just going to get another iRobot for the middle floor of my house. One of my colleagues at work suggested the Neato. I was unsure, but I figured it was worth the experiment. So I got it. I was pleasantly surprised to find the the product worked a lot better then I had feared.

    Strong points:
    * Navigation – the lidar solution produces some of the best and most accurate maps, better then either of the other two products I own (and I have the latest and greatest iRobot). I have had the robot get lost once when a blanket had been left on a table, this seems to have confused the Neato to the point where it could not find it’s way home. Remove the blanket overhang on the table it happily found it’s way home again.
    * Cleaning – it does the job, I have mostly hardwood floors, so I cannot comment on carpeted floors, but the small piece of carpet I did have came out looking just fine. The brush seems to be doing fine with my wife’s trail of long hair she leaves, just needing the occasional cleaning out (a lot less then the Dyson, but not as good as the iRobot for which I have not had to clean the roller once).
    * Battery life – So far, awesome! No problems here, unlike the Dyson which cannot clean any of the floors in my home in one go.

    Issues:
    * The filter – The dust collection bin is large and spacious, no problems there, but the new meshed filters stop large items collecting in the filter, but trap fine dust in the filter making it impossible to clean out. I think this is going to increase the frequency of filter clean out significantly. The Dyson, with it easy to empty and washable filters definitely wins here. The iRobot does not have a mesh, and since I have the self emptying option it “sucks” the filter clean so it seems to be lasting a bit better than the Neato filter. Sadly, they are quite proud about the design on the marketing material, but in my view, this is a failed design, perhaps if the mesh were removable so you could get in and clean out the fine dust that would help.
    * The App – Whilst the Neato has the best mapping of all my cleaners, it has the worst app of all my cleaners. The app allows me to split my house into areas (as they all do) and I can tell the cleaner to clean an area. You cannot tell it to clean multiple areas in one go, you have to do it one area at a time. This is nuts and is the biggest let down on the cleaner. Perhaps this will be corrected in a software update in the future, but at the moment that is how it works. This is annoying as I often like to clean a couple of areas at a time, for example, clean all the rooms except the bathroom as it has not been cleared, etc.

Great product. After a little faffing about mapping the rooms and setting up which is usual for all these types of products, I’m really happy with our robo vac. He pootles around every day, sucking up bits, isn’t too noisy and after a month even the cat is ignoring him! He’s capable of running in the dark without issue. He occasionally gets stuck when we forgot to move a particular chair but overall a very good purchase. He gets into the corners as best he can and is no substitute for a decent vacuum every now and then. But since being home 24/7 due to lockdown and it being fur shedding season for the cat, it’s been great to keep on top of the extra hair, dust and crumbs around the house without having to think about it and continually get the big hoover out.
Easy to clean out when he accidentally sucked up cat food (before we’d set no-go lines). Clearing hair from the brush is also simple and easy. We’ve had him a few months without any major issues

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBien entendu:

    L’application laisse encore dsirer.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI read a lot about these robots and wanted one for years, the recent dyson bot reviews from die hard dyson owners put me off for a while. But my time is precious and I thought there must be something reasonably decent out there. It was a close call between this machine and the Roomba S9. I was prepared to throw 2k into something and I checked a few reviews and I’m glad I chose this model, especially on Amazon’s special discount price. This one uses lasers to guide itself and has a faster default speed. Although the S9 has a higher top speed – these robots all go up and down a few times so it makes no odds, bit like the top speed of a car making no real odds when 0-100mph is the same acceleration.

Device came well-packaged and it is a premium product with manual, quick start, UK and EU power leads, docking station, some accessories, all quality plastics and you feel like your money was worth spending on it. Its a proper sweeping brush and gives a noticeably good clean compared to using our Dyson Animal, which is good for powerful spot sucking and cleaning, this thing runs up and down the same spot a few times and really labours away. There’s a badless disposal container, which picked up so much stuff and I only ran the Dyson animal yesterday so it really highlighted the difference in quickly sucking up with a dyson vs this brush labouring away on the floor. In the App just set it to max turbo and gentle/careful moves, on that setting it cleared an amazing level of dust/dirt. Very happy.

Time will tell how good/reliable it is but so far I am very happy and would recommend this to save yourself 30 mins a day of vacuuming.

    Now here are the pitfalls:
    1) Operates best in a fully cleared space
    2) Some thresholds can fool it, especially silver coloured bars and also silver legged stools/pedestals. I hope Neato release a software update to fix this.
    3) When it has mapped an area or while it’s doing it’s cleaning you may need to be around to move furniture around if you have stuff with legs that it can’t pass through (we have some habitat dining chairs it can’t pass through).
    4) There was about 50cm of thread hanging out of a thread box on the floor and it managed to stuck in half the bobbin spinning it around it’s brush before sending an alert that the brush needed cleaning. Luckily removing the brush is easy and spinning the thread off was also quite straightforward.
    5) It does try to climb over things, it’s a bit of a beast so mark off your no-go areas with the magnetic strip to save it time and possibly your furniture!
    6) Very poor around office chairs as they have a star base that nothing can penetrate so office areas need the chairs clearing first.

Still, despite these pitfalls I like this gadget. Even in a house which is non-minimalist, with 4 little kids always dropping their cheerios and other things this will save me around 4-6 hours a week of manual cleaning, it will pay for itself with half a year’s use.

Here’s hoping for more navigation improvements via software updates. So far so good.

Having seen adverts for these type of robovacs for a long time I was intrigued to try one so when the opportunity came along I went for it.

The set up is fairly quick and easy with the app downloaded onto your device. The steps are clear and simple to follow to connect to WiFi and once you have connected and named your Robovac (mine’s Robbie) you can set up cleaning schedules and strength of clean.

Site the charging base and place the vac on it to charge up, it doesn’t take long to be full charged. Just ensure the base unit is in a clear space to allow the vac to be able to dock easily.

The design of the unit works well, unlike a fully round unit it seems to work corners more easily with the straight long front and squared corners means it works along walls and round furniture better as it guides itself around obstacles and the edge sensors help guide it in to the shape of the furniture for a close clean. It has a rotating edge brush on the leading right corner which cleans under the over hang of items like chairs and sofas.

If you have pets this handles cat and dog hair with no problem, it easily cleans up after my sister’s golden retriever when he comes to stay. The dirt collector is quick to empty and pop back on and for most homes without pets will probably only need emptying every couple of days, but on dog visits it’s after every clean! But usually within 3 days of the visit all the hair has been collected and it’s back to normal emptying.

If you have areas you don’t want the vac to go then it has a facility for you to do a laser scan of your rooms and then use the app to mark off the areas you want avoided the Robovac will then avoid these areas on its cleaning run. It goes back and forth a number of times on a cleaning run so you may think it is not going to clean an area but it will suddenly come back to it.

Once finished the unit beeps to tell you it is completed the clean and it will then return to the base and dock itself. It then sends you a message to your device with a cleaning map showing you where it has cleaned that session.

The unit comes well packed with spare filter and brush units to get you going but you can order spares through the app easily.

I have had this going for a few months to give it a good workout and I am pleasantly impressed with it. It handles carpet or bare floors both going easily from one to the other and the wheels allow it to manoeuvre in and out of tight spaces so it doesn’t get stuck.

Obviously these are not cheap to buy and you need to weigh up the cost benefit ratio before investing in one but I found it very handy and the time saved knowing that all the floors are being cleaned whether I am there or not daily and I can use the time I would have spent hoovering doing something more productive.

well, what can i say i like gadgets and convinced myself to buy one with low expectations but wow it works a treat. I have a ground floor with several rooms all connected in a circuit with a hall and stairway in the middle. I leave all the doors open and she goes through them all and then returns to base after an hour and 45square metres of cleaning. Impressed in how she gets out of the odd snarl up but not been stuck fully yet. not had to use any electonic barriers yet so cannot comment, filter easy to clean and although i empty every day she does tell you when full. highly recommended and far exceeded expectations!

We bought the product yesterday. Our house is covered with wall to wall carpet. Suction is not like a regular vacuum cleaner but still very satisfied with the outcome. It does make sustain the cleanliness of the apartment. I think we will still need to vacuum ourselves from time to time. But instead of vacuuming vacuuming once a week, I guess vacuuming once every 2 or 3 weeks will be enough. Which is perfect.

On the other hand, we are amazed by its ability to go over obstacles and saving itself from difficult corners like D shaped chairs etc.

Overall, it is a very good quality and sophisticated machine.

I tried a few robotic hoovers , but kept sending them back as just did not fulfil my requirements . the auto mapping on this is excellent , it even mapped around our large round seat in the living room & our bed. The only shame is you can only get it to clean a specific room via the app & cannot ask Alexa to clean kitchen for example . But overall the best machine by far & so easy to set up.

Bought Neato D750 pet edition as have a husky who constantly sheds and this little robot hoover is honestly amazing! Picked up so much dog hair it was incredible! Easy to install and easy to use. App works a treat to create room maps and set ‘no go’ zones and can even get Alexa to set hoover off, pause and return to base.

Also able to program zones so hoover can go over difficult areas e.g. rug in centre of room. Has eco mode and turbo which again helps with areas that get heavily dirty, bit noisy on turbo mode but if you’re in another room not that noticeable, and you soon get used to it.

Easily navigates around room edges and objects and travels across carpet, rugs and flat floors with ease. Sensors are clever allowing it to detect where it is and it’s shape allows it to get into hard to reach areas.
When low on power or dust collector full, robot navigates back to base. You do have to ensure floor is reasonably clear but that’s no bad thing. Initially you also have to watch the robot as he maps to ensure he doesn’t get stuck or try to go down stairs although the robot has drop sensors for this. When stuck the robot will send a message to say ‘I’m stuck’ which is helpful.

Comes with extra accessories such as a new brush roller, filters and brushes to clean tools.
It also has an easy to use instruction manual. Another great feature is that there are spare parts available to buy and it is designed to be repaired by its owners. One tip is that to room map the robot has to start from its base unit so if you don’t want to carry this up and down the stairs, buying a second base unit would be a good idea.

Overall a fantastic product and would highly recommend. Floors have never been cleaner for longer and with minimal effort on our part, just stairs to do and areas robot cannot reach, which are very few! Buy one if you can they are well worth the money!

A first class product, great at its job!

I had my doubts about this when I purchased it as I’ve not had a robot cleaner before but it does a fantastic job. It’s mapped out the ground floor of my house and I can just carry it upstairs and let it run round there when it needs doing. It picks up really well and gets into almost all of the corners, although there are still a couple of spots e.g. close in along the edge of thick rugs that still need going over with a handheld vacuum occasionally. Overall though it’s great and saves me a lot of time.

This is my second robot vacuum cleaner, the first being a Samsung Powerbot. While I was mildly disappointed with the Samsung (which sucked well but frequently got itself stuck/lost), this cleaner has impressed me.
It picks up dirt well (the bin is about half full after cleaning my ground floor) and its navigation is excellent – the cleaning maps are very accurate, down to the level of showing individual table legs (which the cleaner obviously can’t clean beneath) and it’s never got lost/stuck on its way back to the charger.
The Samsung has now been relegated to my less complex first floor, which it seems to cope with adequately and this model does the donkey work of the ground floor.
    Highly recommended.

I’ve got this vacuum worrying that it might not do as much of a good job as I hoped but to my surprise it functioned great! It’s smart and rarely miss a spot mainly due to the laser guidance, and it does a good job, some corners are a bit hard to reach so I found myself vacuuming those corners with a “not so smart” vacuum but the fact that it cleans my living room and kitchen every day makes it a great buy.
My girl friend was furious when she found out how much I paid for it but after couple of months she confessed that it was a “smart” purchase! Highly recommended
A note to those of you that want to buy it for your parents, I use an iphone and sometimes there are glitches and is not perfectly intuitive to work with, so for the older generation they might need a hand from time to time to teach them how to cope with these issues, i really hope the problems get fixed on the future updates.

The D7 (D750 in our case) does everything I wanted from a robot vacuum. The floorpan features are great, as is the zone cleaning —it’s so useful being able to tell it to just go clean a specific room. The app is good and seems well maintained (although I do wish the iPad version supported landscape orientation), and the vac does a great job of cleaning our mix of carpet and wooden floors. So far I haven’t found any real negatives and am just overwhelmingly impressed by, and have become very fond of, our funky little house robot. I only hope it remembers that during the inevitable coming robot uprising.

Got it at a good price in the Black Friday sales. Excellent robot vacuum. The phone app is not quite as user friendly as it might be and had to contact Neato support with a couple of questions which were answered right away. Neato’s support is excellent.
My only criticism is that it can’t climb the stairs on its own. 🙂

Somit konnte ich auch keine No go lines ausprobieren.

We were fully prepared for the Neato to be a gimmick, it’s not. While it’s not perfect, in that it will occasionally miss a corner or a bit of dirt that a human never would, you end up letting it vacuum your house far more often that you could ever be bothered with (barring neat freaks). The net result is a cleaner house with zero time expended.
Reviews claim it’s not very good at carpet, we don’t have any – just hardwood floors and the result is satisfactory.
The Neato deals pretty well with obstacles, but very light thin mats like a bathroom mat end up disheveled. More impressively it scales an inch high threshold with no problem.
If it broke, I’d buy this again and highly recommend getting one.

My Neato D7 robot vacuum cleaner was delivered in excellent packaging. Set up instructions clear and concise as was the instructions for downloading the required app. I have the app on my iPhone and iPad. Once the batteries were fully charged I commenced operation. My little robot set off searching out the area to be cleaned. Perhaps a little noisy but did an excellent job in mapping out the area. I have two very large dogs who are always shedding leaving large clumps of hair all over my laminate flooring. No problem for the D7. All hair quickly vacuumed.
After a week of operation the bot has increased its cleaning area and with the app I am able to see problem areas and correct it.
An excellent machine well worth the cost.

Unser Fazit: Ein Gert was unsere Erwartungen voll erfllt bzw. sogar berfllt.

I bought this Neato to replace a 5 year old Neato which had become senile. Whilst I added the Alexa skill, I haven’t used it so can’t comment on how well [or not] it works.

The vacuum is scheduled to work every other day. In general it cleans well. The biggest issue and it’s a software related item is that on the first run the robot maps the room. However if you [as I do] take it upstairs to clean, when it is returned to its charging base, on the next scheduled run it throws up a Navigation Error as its starting position had changed since the last time it parked itself. I feel the room mapping function to be overkill as the previous Neato would happily start every time, would map & then clean the room, all without having to consult a map.

Also the new Neato doesn’t feel as solid as the old one, the wheel bearings already sound noisy.

I love it so much that I gave “him” a name, Sren. It’s the best robot vacuum I have ever had, remote controlled to start cleaning as I snap my fingers from my couch. He cleans effectively and reaches most corners with his little brush. He scans the room before he starts, move systematically and effectively and turns off automatically when done, making him last longer surprisingly long. He leaves behind a map of the cleaned room, on which you can see where he couldn’t reach, for example. He also has other data on the app, like area and time graphics. Super nice and easy to use, I barely scanned the instructions, but I’ll do that soon and then you can program him to clean various maps of rooms in your house and avoid certain areas, for example.

Delivery to Denmark was just a few days, arriving at my doorstep like a little Christmas gift to myself.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI bought 2 of these (one for upstairs and one downstairs) to replace my EUFY Robovac 30C’s (which were about 6 months old). My decision was partly because the EUFY’s had an issue with leaving clumps of hair when they ran out of battery and also because they had no smart navigation (they would simply stop cleaning even if they hadn’t done the whole floor).

I bought the Neato D750 when it was on sale on Boxing Day at 399 (twice the 189 I paid for the EUFY’s), upon setting them up I realised there were some minor tweaks to how the Neato’s operate (e.g. the base doesn’t give off an IR signal to help navigate the RoboVac back, therefore if you start and then immediately stop a clean the Vac can become “lost” because it hasn’t passed the charger at least once).

I was particularly impressed with the pickup ability of the RoboVac, it really does a superb job at picking up bits of dirt in the carpet. This is helped by the greatly enlarged spiral brush, enabled by the D-Shape design. Also, because the vac maps your floor design it makes sure every part is covered.

I had to create some virtual no-go lines on the app (I used an iPad and Pencil for this as using the touch screen was very imprecise), I’ve included photos of the areas I’ve marked no-go to help readers understand the areas they may wish to also mark out. The Christmas tree was blocked out because the Vac would often try to mount the base of the tree, getting stuck. The fireplace was blocked off because of the candles on the hearth and finally, the step from the kitchen to the dining room was just a little too steep for the Vac to successfully climb (although it would spend 20 minutes trying!).

The absolute bonus of this Vac is its integration into the Samsung SmartThings system, as you can see the Vac appears as a device allowing me to set the Vac to run when I leave the house each day. You also get a nice map after every clean to confirm which areas were cleaned (shown in light blue).

One minor point that they could improve on is their Alexa skill, in the app you can set cleaning “Zones”, e.g. Living Room, Kitchen, etc – it’s a shame you can’t say “Alexa, tell Neato to clean the Kitchen”.

Otherwise, I’d fully recommend this Vac – the D750 comes with a charging base, a spare spiral brush, 2 spare filters and a cleaning comb.

    Excellent, Smart, Robot Vacuum

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis robot is quite simply amazing in how flexible it is and they really did an awesome job of making a hands off experience.

We have an open plan house with hard floors, so there are lots of large pieces of furniture to navigate and an open plan kitchen with breakfast bar at the island. We have a large Labrador who loses a lot of hair at this time of year.

I was initially worried I’d need to be “considerate” of the robot, making sure some movable items of furniture were in the same place as when the floor plan was created, but i didn’t need to at all. It basically doesn’t matter whats around it just navigates around stuff dynamically.

This Robot (which we called Crumbs!) has really changed the way we deal with hoovering. Where it was a big task to get the Dyson out and go around the hole area, the zone feature means I can spot clean very quickly exactly when it’s needed. So for example, every day Crumbs will do a full run of the whole house, but after I’ve finished cooking, I’ll dispatch him to the kitchen to just go around the area I’ve been cooking at. It takes minutes, so I can do this whilst I’m dishing up/laying the table and he doesn’t disturb mealtimes. Then after dinner, when clearing the table, I’ll send him over to hoover up around the dining table.

This way of hoovering as the mess is created whilst enabling me to be doing something else at the same time is really transformative. The only problem I had with him so far: I get really distracted watching him work – it’s quite amazing how he moves with conviction!

He can be a little clumsy around the chair and table legs, but I guess his laser vision isn’t accurate enough to navigate them without triggering the bumper sensors. Overall I really can’t fault this thing – the app is dead simple and the benefits he delivers exceed my expectations!

Vacuums very nicely but the advance features like zone cleaning cannot be operated with voice control. The vacuum doesn’t seem to be too smart either. After creating a map, it struggles with furniture which is moved, it thinks that my chairs still stand where they were at the time of first run and will not vacuum that area. I am sure this could be improved with some software update. But generally runs well.

Enter the brave new world of Shirley (the Neato Rototics vacuum cleaner) the floor cleaning robot.

Shirley arrived beautifully packed, everything safe and sound with nothing broken and no problems. This is really an essential start on an expensive piece of kit.

Easy to unpack, remove tapes and set up charging point and put Shirley in for a full charge, Time to load the Neato App onto my iPhone, straightforward and then set up an account. All straightforward if you are happy with Apps/iPhones/accounts ~ some of my friends would need help at this point, some would feel like giving up.

To cut to the chase ~ this is not for the technophobe. I found it straightforward and logical, App and remote mapping of your home would have some people sending Shirley back from whence she came. To spend this sort of money on a robotic vacuum cleaner you need to be keen and willing to work with it. Shirley is G R E A T but she’s not for the technologically challenged. Having said this buying a Neato is probably self selecting in degrees of technological competence.

Once charged Shirley was set to task of mapping the sitting room. The App is easy to use and Shirley was off ~ close the doors, remove expensive objects balanced on coffee tables and be patient and nearby. She dealt well going from carpet onto a rug on the carpet. She can back out of difficult situations and is slim enough to go under table legs and stretchers.
Once mapping was complete (seems like cleaning but the brushes aren’t busy) I could give Shirley the job of cleaning the room, which had been recently “Hoovered” with a conventional machine. She busied about, backwards and forwards side to side of the room in a visible pattern of cleaning. When Shirley was finished she went home for a charge. I had to help[ once or twice as I got used to her and she got used to the room. I found the whole thing very novel and a bit Sci-Fi. Now for results !! The “dust box” was full and I was surprised at how much had been collected ~ RESULT !!

After a couple of days room use Shirley went on the trail of dirt and just as before, she found it and the box was full. To be fair the dust box is not huge but Shirley is slim and carries no excess weight!

Once I was happy with the sitting room I branched out and together we learnt hallways and other rooms, all named on the App so Shirley knows where she is. Success, not without the odd mishap. When mapping the hallway, she followed me through an open door to the garden, yes it was a very flat threshold to be fair. But Shirley had the good sense to stop at the top of the three concrete steps ~ so the lazers and such do their stuff.

I can programme our Shirl to clean rooms from my iPhone but there are limits as she can’t open doors to get into the rooms. I have to carry her and put her down in the same place she started mapping from the first time. If I had a large open plan apartment she might become much more autonomous ~ I can dream!

After a few months I am delighted with Shirley the Neato Rototics vacuum cleaner but I love technology and at the moment loving the whole idea of Shirley is fairly important. I have been told that the time spend “playing” with Shirley would have been better spent just getting the “Hoover” out and cleaning the rooms. But that’s not the point is it!! Progress has to start somewhere and at first a limited number will jump on board, the others will follow and will tell their friends how trendy and innovative they are with their new technology !!!

One thing to watch for if you get a Shirley (the Neato Rototics vacuum cleaner), my toddling grandson came in, looked at Shirley charging and within seconds had turned her on ! I was only aware when i heard shouts and screams of joy, “It’s a robot, it’s a robot, it’s a robot,” as the toddler stumbled after the nifty Shirley. He thought the whole thing was magnificent and I need to find the “lock the on/off button!!”

A long term test on Shirley the Neato Rototics vacuum cleane

    Ci piaciuto:

This is an excellent little vacuum cleaner that you can leave unattended to potter round the house and sweep up the dust. The rotating bristles give a very good deep clean to the carpet. It does work better on regular shaped rooms and it does miss some corners out which will benefit from a standard vacuum clean. If you have pets (a dog for example) you may find they become fixated on the item and have to be discouraged from thinking of it as a toy for them, or a threat. It was difficult to get the app to download, although we succeeded eventually after several attempts and some indelicate language. After that, it’s a set of instructions to the machine rather like programming a TV and the machine educates itself as to the layout of the house. I don’t think it will fully replace standard vacuum cleaners at the moment until it can get right into the corners, but as a cleaner for every day use, it’s a game changer.

This was our first robotic vacuum cleaner, so we really didn’t know what to expect. Firstly, this is a quality device. I found it easy to set up and operate at a basic level. The APP does give some very advanced options on defining boundaries etc. that look very good. The “power” of the cleaning was far better than I expected – so top marks for that. Close inspection on the extreme margins of the room, showed a slightly less impressive performance near the skirting boards (to be fair this is true of many cleaners). The price is an issue – but what this does is free up time. I will update my review if anything negative happens over the next 12 months – but at the moment, we are more than satisfied.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThe Neato Botvac is, indeed, pretty neat. It comes pretty much ready to go – base unit, the robot itself and some useful bits and bobs to get you started (more on those shortly).

Whilst use of the associated app is not required it does make the experience more fun and informative (i.e. feedback) and provide additional functionality (e.g. remote initiation). Setting up an account and linking the vacbot to that account via wifi is pretty straightforward and follows the same pattern as other similar devices. The instructions are pretty clear, providing the necessary guiding hand.

If you have a cluttered house, or lots of different stepped levels, you probably will not benefit from a vacbot. We find ourselves “tidying” (moving dining room chairs, dogs bed on the sofa, lifting hanging curtains, removing shoes) quite a lot before initiating a clean – and it does make a difference. So it’s not magic. That said it is pretty clever. It handles a rug with tassley ends, the door mat at our back door, some quite fiddly spaces – and two bemused animals (one dog and one cat). To date it has not got stuck anywhere to the point of requiring rescue.

How good is it at cleaning…? Pretty good for the areas it can get to. Unless you live in an extremely minimalist environment with straight edges and no ticky cables or weird small gaps between furniture – there are going to be places it can’t get to. For those – you will need to hoover yourself using a snozzle at whatever frequency you deem necessary. For the main areas it does well – as evidenced by the dust collector when you come to empty it. This is a simple operation – it lifts from the top, remove the dust filter and empty. Reverse the procedure to replace it.

There is a strip of quite heavy material which can be used to block of areas which are to be avoided (physical barriers such as boxes will do the same thing in effect). Alternatively this can be done in the Neato app. The app allows a few additional things – e.g. a schedule which allows a daily cleaning timetable to be set up.

Although the handbook says that the docking station needs a meter clear each side – ours is positioned in an alcove with perhaps 20cm on each side – and the vacbot finds it way back without a problem. A small wiggle of its behind and it reverses straight onto the dock – ready for next time.

Supplied additionally are a cleaning scraper, a couple of spare filters, a replacement brush head and the aforementioned “no go” strip.

Personally I think the Neato is a pretty clever little thingm – although hamstrung by some practical considerations. It will get on with the job whilst you are out, but may require some forethought in terms of what you leave lying around. Perhaps a good incentive to be tidier. If you use the app – you get a floor plan/map of the job just done once the Neato has completed its cleaning run. I’ve seen ours improve over time (quantifiable with the “square meters cleaned” summary figure for each run) – which is possibly both the Neato improving – and us. You will still need to empty it and sometimes get the manual vacuum cleaner out for those tricky and hard to get places. As with Daleks – it does not do stairs so you’ll still be doing the upstairs too (or carrying it upstairs!)

Linking with Alexa is easy (once you have a Neato account) – it is just a matter of enabling that skill. Then you can lie on the sofa, eating doughnuts and drinking hot chocolate and ask Alexa to get some cleaning done.

I though autonomous ‘robot’ vacuum cleaners were a gimmick. Bound to get stuck somewhere whilst cleaning and just not very good at their primary function — vacuuming. Turns out I was wrong. I’ve been working with Neato for a couple of weeks in my office which has probably provided the most complicated floor area you could hope to test a robot vacuum cleaner. Three desks, nine chairs, pillars, stairs — all getting in the way.

    Day 1
It’s obvious on opening the box that Neato is a high end product and it looks like the future has arrived. Sleek black and metal effect design. I can’t wait to see it in action. Only problem is that I’ve left my phone in the car (it’s miles away) and so I can’t download the Neato app to program him. This turns out not to be a problem because there is a simple start button on top of the machine. It’s fascinating and I watch him on and off for about 50 minutes as the 45 square metre office is vacuumed. Neato is quite noisy, not overly so, but he is a vacuum cleaner and they all make noise. Try brushing and sucking carpets quietly! I was amazed to see how much stuff came out of the carpet on the first pass (see picture 1).

    Day 2
Now I’ve downloaded the app and Neato is able to make his own floor plan of the office as he navigates around doing his morning clean (see picture 2). I can now choose areas where I don’t want him to go by swiping a line onto the floor plan. This is useful to keep him out of the metal guide wires that hold-up our window displays (Neato gets a bit rough when he’s cornered in an area only just bigger than him. When reversing he can ride up at the back and make a mark on a wall if you’re not careful). What is obvious from the start is that Neato has some seriously powerful software running him. He’s really, really clever and I’ve seen him get into — and out of — some very tight spaces. Every time it seems as though he’s trying a different approach. Maybe he’s learning? Probably.

    Day 3
I discover zone cleaning after updating the app. It’s useful but I decide to stick with the whole office clean. Neato can be programmed to clean at one time (not multiple times) of the day, seven days a week. I still like watching him work and he’s really growing on me. Of course I talk to him sometimes (we humans are soft and like to anthropomorphize objects. Especially if they move around and pretend they are living). I decide to call him Neato.

    Day 4
After cleaning, Neato returns automatically to his base station to charge. I don’t think I will ever tire of watching him wiggle from left to right over the last few centimetres as he reverses onto the power plate. After a good charge, I decide that our basement room and kitchen could do with a vacuuming and so I pick-up Neato and carry him downstairs. Turn him on and off he goes in the dark for half an hour doing his thing. He’s using a laser to navigate and so the lights don’t need to be on.

    Day 5 and after
Every morning at 7am Neato vacuums the office. I am sent a message via the app when he’s finished and shown a floor plan of where he has cleaned. Sometimes he does it in 45 minutes, other times 56 minutes. Depends how the obstacles are placed in the office. Neato’s base station is on the other side of the office but I pass him at various times of the day on my way to one of the many filing cabinets. He is now a useful member of the team and I refuse to return him to Amazon or Neato robotics. I don’t how long we’ll have together. Then again, who does

    Love my little Neato

The Neato works much better than I had expected it to. It was very easy to set up and we had no problems connecting the vacuum to the WiFi or the Neato app. Once started, it manoeuvred its way around the lounge and dining room and simply put itself into reverse if it came into contact with any objects. The charging pad is quite discrete and can simply be placed up against the wall so the vacuum can be placed next to it. The bin is very easy to empty and seems to be a decent size, I have used the vacuum several times already and only emptied it once.

The Neato app is very handy; the robot can be scheduled to begin cleaning at different days and times, on repeat and on ‘Eco’ or ‘Turbo Mode’ or with extra care when on ‘Navigation Mode’. A floor plan can be added to the app so the robot knows exactly where to clean, or, you can simply choose to use the manual cleaning option. Overall a good vacuum tool that can be left to do the hoovering whilst I get on with other household chores.

This is the first robot vacuum cleaner I have ever owned. It came in a box about the size of large scalextrix set and has a footprint itself about the same size as a standard upright hoover, without the upright part. It has a raised disc in the centre for scanning and two wheels underneath that manoeuvre the robot about and lift it. It also comes with a docking/ recharging station, a cleaning comb and spare brushes.

The robot is best controlled via the Neato app, the registration process is fairly simple and you can name your robot. The first clean is recommended to be done for the whole house and it maps your floors. We have done some preparation and moved everything we could off the floor – chairs onto tables that sort of thing to give it the best chance of cleaning success. It’s not done too badly. The map it has provided is a reasonably good map of our house, and there is a little bit of manual hoovering we will have to do round the edges but on the whole it has picked most things up.

We’ve run this four times in our testing for this review. On the first occasion it ran over a tissue under our bed, this caused the brush to clog up and jam. Instead of pushing on and burning out the motor or damaging the unit, it called for help. Removing the jam was pretty straight forward and there is a video built into the app to show you how to do it. Once replaced it completed the clean and found its way back to the docking station.

On attempt number two it got caught up in some wires near the bed. Again it stopped and once freed – it didn’t need the brush removing this time it managed to get on with it OK.

On attempt number three it got stuck behind a chair, this time, we were at work and when we freed it, it managed to get lost and had to be carried back to its docking station.

Attempt number four was trouble free and met with success. We have climbed a learning curve about trailing wires, tissues and the like and can now enjoy some happy cleaning.

At the end of each clean you have to clean the brush and empty the collection bin. Its not the biggest collection bin going but takes a reasonable amount of the robot and I don’t see how it could be made any bigger. Every time it is absolutely full of dust so the vacuum cleaner really is picking up the dust and not just blowing it around to the room edges. Cleaning the brush each time is a bit of a pain, but at least it has been designed for removal and easy cleaning and its only a couple of minutes to do.

So all in all its not completely work free to hoover your house with a Neato Robot Vacuum cleaner. You have to clean the brush and empty the dust tray EVERY time. In my opinion that’s the difference between good and great. You can schedule cleans, but for best results you need to get obstructions out of the way so really no need to do the scheduling when you can do a manual start when you leave for work.

In use, its about as noisy as a regular vacuum cleaner. We really like the way it moves itself around and can climb over minor obstacles, doesn’t bash into stuff and pretty neatly works out where it is and how to get back to base. I like the way it communicates when its finished even though I’m at work.

Overall its pretty good, not perfect because of the need to clean it every time, but pretty good. Our house footprint is pretty big, being a loft converted bungalow and battery life it is good. Neat (O).

Firstly, I have to say tis vacuum cleaner is amazing! It is easy to setup just follow the instructions for dock placement etc. in the instruction book, to connect install the Neato and register for an account and then follow the instructions in the app, the whole process takes no longer than 10 minutes.

Once setup on the app its ready to make its first run and map out the area that it’s going to hoover so doors to all rooms that you want hovered need to be open. Once the first map has been created you can then add no go lines onto it such as around pet bowls etc. and these lines will not be crossed. You can also setup different zones so you can just ask for one area to be cleaned instead of the whole area on the original map. After each clean a map is produced that shows the area cleaned, time taken. Within the app you can schedule cleaning, change between eco and turbo mode and turn gentle navigation on and off. Also, you can use manual mode and drive it like a radio-controlled car.

The cleaning power and performance is great, I tend to use it on turbo mode all the time because the battery lasts so long it has no problem doing the whole of my downstairs in this mode, it will pick up everything in its path with ease including pet hair and spilt cat biscuits and the carpets look great after. The dustpan does need to be emptied after each use as the capacity is limited but this is to be expected. The roller brush is easy to remove and clean as and when required.

In the box one spare roller brush and one spare side brush are provided along with two spare filters so this should be enough for around a year of use if you follow the guidance, but I won’t be changing any of them until I feel it’s needed.

Overall I’m so pleased with this hoover and the carpets have never looked better I don’t know what I would do without it now!

This is a top-of-the range floor robot, so my expectations are high. The D7 is heavy, looks good, and seems very well constructed. It will clean both hard floors and carpets. Basic operation is easy. You plug in the base station, and position the Neato’s backside against the charging contacts. The battery charges up. When the battery light changes to green, you know there’s enough charge for a cleaning job, so you press the start button and the Neato sets off, using its laser to sense where the walls are and where other obstructions are. It will bump its way around furniture legs, and will get as far under furniture as it can. You’ll see Neato working around the room close to the edges, and then trying to do straight lines up and down the room, furniture permitting. Having cleaned the room it started in, it will go through open doors to clean other rooms. When finished or when it runs out of charge, it will stop, then return to its charging station (don’t move the charging station). The whole ground floor of my house gets done in just over an hour — tiles and wood floors well swept, and carpets and rugs vacced. No complaints about the cleaning performance or the ability to cover the whole floor, right up to the edges and into corners.

If you want to clean just one room, put the Neato down in that room, close the doors, and press the start button. Neato will clean the room, then go back to the position in which you started it, and switch off. If you want to clean a limited area — say, under the dining table — put Neato down facing that area, press the start button twice, and an area about 2 metres square gets cleaned. That’s called spot cleaning.

After use, you lift out the small container and empty out the fluff and grit. Clean the beater brush (similar to an upright vac’s) if necessary.

All the above is very simple, but any job can be made trickier by making it work with an app. Yes, there’s an app. Once you’ve installed the Neato app, got the robot on to your home’s wifi, and paired it with your phone, you can select some optional settings. Eco mode — that’s a bit quieter, but takes longer to clean. Or Turbo mode — full power. You can also switc
h on Extra Care, which means less bumping of furniture legs, and you can expand the spot cleaning area to 4m x 4m. After each cleaning job, the app shows you a map of the cleaned area. You can use this map to define no-go areas, such as corners where there are loose wires or stuff resting on the floor. You can also define zones, and subsequently order Neato to clean just one zone. That might be the surface of a rug, or the area around your desk. You can even set up schedules so that Neato will regularly come off its base, do a clean, and go back.

There’s a noticeable cost of ownership. The filter will need replacing every couple of months (they cost 3-8 each) and the beater brush perhaps every six months (about 35). The rechargeable battery life might be only 1-2 years (20-50).

There are literally not enough words to say about this wonderful device. I’ve had it in my home for less than two weeks and it’s never ever leaving.

Came well packed and with comprehensive instructions which were easy to read and follow.

You literally plug in the charger and connect the vacuum robot to it and you’re good to go. The instructions suggest fully charging the unit first but in fact it came with enough charge to have a good play about immediately.

So there appear to be two modes, spot clean and a more comprehensive one. We started with the spot clean as we wanted charge the unit properly before doing a more thorough clean. This lasted around three minutes and the unit cleaned a small area before returning to the charger and docking itself. As newbies to the whole “robot vacuum cleaner” market we were very impressed with the clean and also thoroughly entertained by the way it manoeuvred itself back onto the charger by wriggling the back point until it was in just the right position, what’s not to love about that? Almost a little dance 😀

We’ve since used the cleaner to do a more thorough clean on several occasions and remain impressed. It covers the whole carpet of a large living/dining room with no issues, the carpet looks cleaned and the pile is obviously brushed as you can see the brush marks.

Cleaning of the unit is a breeze as you simply lift the dust collector out, empty it and then replace it in the machine. I also check the brushes at the same time.

We downloaded the app to my phone and connected the device to that, with this you can programme the unit to clean at specific times of day although as I work from home we’ve not needed to use this.

Connecting Alexa took me a while but I suspect this is because I am a bit of a Smart technology technophobe rather than there being any issue with how this works .
I did eventually manage to do this and enjoyed setting the cleaner going much to the amusement of my family so know I hate housework.

More than anything through was the joy of cleaning the kitchen while the lining room carpet was being vacuumed with absolutely zero effort from me! What’s not to love about that?

My first robot vacuum cleaner…I will never go back.

This is an impressive product – very nicely packaged in an attractive looking box, with spare parts included, a quick start guide, a more detailed manual and it was easy to get our first Neato aka “HAL” up and running… We named ours Huey…
Downloaded the Neato app to mobile phone and then the fun started – the app is a bit clunky and it didn’t set up smoothly first time – just hung up in the middle of the process which meant I had to start again – it wasn’t as easy to get connected as it ought to have been – you have to connect to the Robot’s WiFi- then bridge it through the app to yours… took me an hour to get this done and there were a couple of times when I wondered whether the effort would be worth it.
It really was – once connected and fully charged I sent Huey out to explore and eventually it came back and nuzzled into the docking station in a surprisingly lifelike way. There were a couple of places that the Neato struggled with – and in the app it’s actually easy to set up some red lines over which the robot will not venture – with this done and the floor set-up as three zones it was easy to schedule the robotic vacuum cleaner to clean each zone twice a week. Neato also include a reel of magnetic tape which can also be used as a border but I found the virtual red lines good enough. You do have to keep the robot away from loose cables, the waste container is small and needs to be emptied frequently, hair can get tangled in the front roller, sometimes the robot misses the docking station ( not very often though)… but these are relatively minor things. It might just help having a geek in the family though. All in all Neato does very well, unsupervised and with accurate maps made and stored, you can just forget about the robot most of the time and let it deal with all the hard work… our rooms and floor are cleaner than they’ve ever been.
Great product, well thought out, well packaged, excellent help and documentation… and absolutely fascinating to watch it navigate and clean. Recommended…

This is an amazing machine! I was skeptical when it first arrived and once I got it set up I was impressed and I have been ever since. I’ve used it 3x downstairs and once upstairs and I have had to empty the dust compartment 4x! Now we had vacuumed thoroughly a couple of days before with a very powerful vacuum and thought that it would only pick up a small amount of fluff and dust and it amazed me how much it sucked up.

When you first get it you have to position the charging base and put it somewhere in an open section of your floor. The robot was already charged a bit so I was able to link it to the app etc. I don’t have Alexa so cannot comment about that. To be honest, it works well without all the link up and I’ve let it do its own thing. I have a small house and so there are not many open areas of the carpet to work over, as there many pieces of furniture. You need to move cables, soft things like bags, toys and other items that might get sucked up. Once you have cleared this then you can switch it on and away it goes. I love to watch it negotiate the floor and work its way around. It works in an up and down motion on open areas like you would mow a lawn. It is a bit noisy but not horrifically so. If it gets into a tight spot it rears up at the back and extracts itself from the area. You can see it trying to work out where it needs to go. If you don’t want it to go into certain areas there is a coiled magnetic strip that you stretch out and place across the carpet/floor and it will not go beyond that. It treats hard and soft flooring equally well. It also goes under sofas and sideboards with ease. Once it’s done its stuff it will return to its base and shuffles backward until it connects with the charging plates. That is pretty cool.

When I took it upstairs it worked out not to fall down the stairs and the sensors knew to turn away. It wanted desperately to go under one unit and got a little wedged before it wiggled back out. It did a good job and was full once more. I cannot believe how much dust it sucks up.

It comes with spare filters and brushes (the filters should be replaced every 1-2 months). I looked for spares and parts and they are very affordable on Amazon which is a bonus. Pricewise it’s not cheap but you are paying for super technology and as a disabled person this is perfect for me as I am not able to do much a lot of the time. I hate seeing bits and pieces on the carpet and now my robotic friend can really help me. Would recommend.

I wrote an original review of this item containing an on-going joke… Amazon felt it inappropriate to publish, so I’ll have another go being properly behaved this time.

    GOOD POINTS

    – The integration with the Neato app allows you to define zones to clean or ‘no-go’ lines relatively easily.

    – Relatively quiet, my dogs and I happily sleep upstairs when the vac is cleaning downstairs.

    – Not the greatest suction – but with a robot vacuum that hardly matters. If it cleans reasonably (which it does) then you just set it to clean OFTEN, and the result might take half a dozen cleaning sessions to ‘optimise’, but the result is good.

    – Seems relatively good at handling short dog hair – I have two greyhounds.

    – Decent navigation, OK not perfect, but pretty good.

    – Good battery life – vacuums full downstairs of decent-sized, detached house with lots of ‘spare charge’.

    LESS GOOD

    – Dirt bin is low capacity.

    – Roller brush tends to get tangled up with rubbish – needs regular clearing.

    CONCLUSION

A good piece of kit – recommended.

This is my first foray into robot vacuums, so if you’re looking for a review that compares this Neato with other brands, I’m afraid this isn’t it- luckily reviewer ‘Mother of Dragonflies’ already has that covered. But if you’d like a newbie’s perspective, here you are.

I’d previously assumed that robot vacuums were a novelty item- a toy that would appeal to cash-rich, time-poor people who love gadgets, which would be a great talking point at dinner parties but which wouldn’t really vacuum a floor very well. I was wrong about the last part, for sure. While there’s certainly a great novelty to this (and my kids are very entertained), it’s also a genuinely useful time-saving vacuum cleaner.

It’s incredibly intuitive. It comes with a ‘quick start’ guide and a proper instruction manual, and the two-page quick start guide is all it takes to start getting your floors clean. After very simple registration via smartphone app (email verification and a password), entering the WiFi password, and the surprisingly difficult bit of trying to come up with a good witty name for your new vacuum- don’t worry, you can change the name later when you think of a better one- just press ‘start’ and it’s away, within a few minutes of first opening the box. You don’t need to tell it anything, or set anything- it will just boldly set off, investigating your room and vacuuming as it goes.

It’s a very capable driving machine, capable of meandering across thick pile rugs and up and down small ledges with great aplomb. The wheel mechanism that can pivot reminds me a little of the self-righting machines in Robot Wars (up to a point) and it is very capable at unsticking itself in all the rooms we’ve tried it in.

I find it bizarrely captivating to watch it work. The cleaner’s system for sounding out the room, working its way systematically around the space, starting with the borders of each zone and then in stripes within that rectangle, improvising new stripes whenever it reaches a hard object, is very smart. Although the noises it makes are not very characterful, it still ends up coming across as having its own character- yes, I’m anthropomorphising a vacuum cleaner. It sniffs into nooks and crannies tentatively, it backs away from tight spaces it doesn’t like, and best of all, when it’s returning to its charging dock, it gives a little side-to-side wiggle when travelling backwards to its charging point, to ensure the best charging connection, which ends up coming across as a satisfied wiggle of a pet that’s played for a bit and is now settling for a nap. If you’ve got a soft spot for gadgets, this is practically a pet.

The more advanced features are a little bit less intuitive, and in my case did involve opening the manual up to find out more- mainly how to ensure the Neato doesn’t chuck itself down a staircase, just to be safe. However the designers have done a reasonable job of simplifying a zonal system which is inherently a bit complicated down to something that pretty much anyone can control- if they’ve read the instructions. The manual is worth holding on to, for sure, because sooner or later you’ll need to work out how to replace some of the parts and so on. We haven’t even scraped the surface of the Alexa integration yet.

There is also a manual control option, which turns your vacuum cleaner into a remote control car, that vacuums. Initially this is quite entertaining, for a little while- but ultimately it’s not a toy, it’s not fast enough to race, and the manual option seems to defeat the point of having a robot vacuum cleaner at all, so this isn’t going to be an option we use very often. It’s also just more fun watching the robot wander about of its own volition as well.

Importantly, it also does a very good job of actually vacuuming the floor! (In fact maybe I should have mentioned that earlier). For a relatively small device, that’s barely any bigger than the head unit of a traditional vacuum cleaner, there’s some seriously impressive battery technology in there, because it can motor itself about and perform continuous and very decent suction vacuuming for well over an hour, non-stop- and then it will recharge itself within a couple of hours as well. I don’t know what the mAh capacity of the device is but it’s obviously a high-end bit of kit- I wish all my battery devices had this kind of stamina.

Around our house, there were a couple of things that the robot got confused by, but nothing major. At one point it got stuck under a stool, and started dragging the stool about as it worked, which it didn’t seem to enjoy very much- but as soon as I lifted the stool up, it carried on as if nothing had happened. The map of our living room had a blip on it where there’s a full-length mirror, as obviously the light sensor had detected the reflections as objects (or something) so there was a bit of a ‘ghost’ on the map display on the app (or maybe the robot knows something we don’t and maybe there is a parallel universe behind our mirror). In both cases though it didn’t affect the cleaning and if the device had been unattended, no calamity would have occurred if the cleaning had just continued unsupervised- we would’ve just ended up with a moved stool.

When we first set this device up, the app prompted that there was a firmware update to install on the device itself- which is very promising, as it means that potentially in the future, further firmware updates could make the device even more intelligent or capable, and the only limitations are its hardware. That being said though, the D7 does appear to be the sixth (!) generation, so it may not be too long before a D8 has superseded this and you may find yourself with vacuum upgrade envy, in the same way people get smartphone envy.

There are obvious limitations to the hardware worth mentioning, but they’re not unique to a D7. For example, like the Daleks prior to 1988, they can’t do stairs. You won’t be able to ditch your existing vacuum cleaner and depend on this for all your cleaning needs- but what you will find is that your existing hard-work, no-fun vacuum can spend much more time in the cupboard, gathering dust (ironically).

As I mentioned at the top, I can’t speak for how this D7 compares to other brands. But after my initial scepticism about a brand called ‘Neato’- which sounds like a cheap-and-cheerful low budget brand name in my opinion- I am seriously impressed with this device, bordering on enamoured. Designed in California and made in China, this is clearly a product from the Apple or Samsung of the robot vacuum world. Who knew this much joy could be derived from a vacuum cleaner?

This is my first robot vacuum and i have found it to be better than i expected.

    Set up.
I am not technically minded in anyway and shy away from setting up anything like this normally, so imagine my surprise when I managed to set this up alone, with no assistance from the kids at all!

It is not as impressive as I am making it sound, it was as simple as downloading an app and registering, after that it guides you through the few steps that need your input- (wifi connection for instance) and then it is ready to go.
Mapping out the rooms it is going to clean is done by the machine itself, you just set it off from your phone and it maps out where it is going to go and then cleans it.

    Use.
I have this downstairs where i have a combination of floor surfaces; smooth tile, textured natural slate tile and short pile carpet.
On the short pile carpet i got a really good clean, so good that you can see the lines in the carpet where it has been, rather like a striped lawn.
On the bumpy slate tiles it managed to collect all the debris from the floor and inbetween the tiles was clean – something which my quick handheld vacuum struggles with.
On the smooth tiles it gave a perfect clean collecting all the dust and hair.

    Short comings.
What i would recommend is using a little common sense and having a quick scout round and clearing things up from the floor before using this, it will snag and struggle on cables so it is important to get these out of its way.

Because this is designed to keep away from objects it does leave a decent sized gap between itself and walls/ furniture so any fluff/ dust bunnies hiding close to the edges will be left for you to pick up yourself.
It can not go up stairs- obvious i know, but worth mentioning.
It takes longer than doing the vacuuming yourself with a stick vacuum, this is because it is so precise, it goes up and down and up and down again where as a quick flick around with your stick vacuum is less organised, more intuitive as you see where the bits are and head straight for them and it’s literally a quick flick around. This can’t see the dirt so cleans EVERYWHERE in a neat and organised manner to make sure it gets everything picked up and everywhere clean.

It is louder than my vacuum- this shocked me. It is not like you’re listening to a passing jumbo jet but it does interfere with the T.V sound and is marginally louder than my shark stick cleaner.

    The machine.
This is well designed, it looks very modern and sleek. Watching it scoot around is fascinating, especially when you first get it.

The docking base is discreet and looks neat and tidy, when the machine is charging it is silent and you can easily ignore it.

As for who this works best for, I’d say busy people who can set it up to go while they are doing something more interesting or even those who struggle with mobility through illness.

It would be particularly good for anyone who was not particularly mobile ( like my mother in law) and if you lived in a bungalow, even better as everywhere would be accessible to it.

Does a much better clean than i expected.

I am not new to robot vacuum cleaners. We’ve been running RogerTheRoomba for maybe 8 years.
If you are thinking of one for the first time
    1. You will need a separate handheld vac to clean out the tight fitting spaces in the robot vac itself.
    2. They don’t do stairs.
    3. You need to prepare the area, removing trailing wires, piles of papers, rug fringes, any liquids in glasses that might be toppled.
    4. You do need to maintain them, cleaning out long human hairs and bits of wire etc, plus empty the bin, clean the filter.

I still hate vacuuming and couldn’t live without one. I have long blond hair and pets that spill dry food and paper bedding. Plus blimey, dust.

With a bit of faffing around, this does have an excellent app. It can connect to the more modern 5GHz wifi network, which is a bonus since we have swamped out the segregated 2.4GHz with Nest products and are going to have to hardwire in a network instead of using so much wifi.

It’s got room mapping via the app (still working its way around). It runs in a up and down pattern, not random moves across the room (actually random movements do work, but make take two sessions to pick up everything). The suction is excellent after two goes round, handling the downstairs deep carpet.. I have postponed cleaning once I knew it was on its way and it had to handle some bunny hay and some hamster food pellets. The docking is excellent, with a strange R2D2 side lurching until it has positioned itself.

So the bits that don’t quite work for me:
The clearance isn’t as good- I’m going to have to hand vac under the TV glass unit occasionally.
It’s rather noisy- it has different motors that turn on and off as it trogs along. It has also acquired a loud rattle after just two goes. Preliminary web searches suggested that there was something wrong with the brush bearing- and it was indeed filthy and clogged. But the clean didn’t much change the noise, so it’s teeth gritting time. My rabbits, who are temporarily inside due to Storm Hannah, really hate the low pitched sounds it makes, so I don’t know if this will affect other pets.

Room barring is via the aid of a magnetic strip. All the effort seems to have gone into the motors, not the outside accessories. Hard to say really. Roger is moving upstairs permanently, and he will remain my favourite despite his lack of digital sophistication.
