Flavours come very refined and nice that mean even heating in all corners highly recommended
We’ve been using this air-fryer for a while, and have been incredibly pleased with it. It’s easy to use, easy to clean, and does great food — particularly chips – and is quite easy to clean. Five stars.
So enjoying learning to add to our meal diversity with this. It cooks faster and with minimal oil, and means I don’t need to pre heat my massive oven for a tray of veggies! It’s only (slight) downfall is that it looks a bit clunky in the kitchen. But it’s functionality is great.
Brilliant!! Our food is cooked to perfection.. it’s speedy and does exactly what it says .. I’m truly impressed with the crispy finish on battered gougons, Halloumi fries etc .. I have worked out my own timings but the preset timings were pretty accurate..
First time using an air fryer. Late to the game I know. One of the main reasons was that it was getting expensive heating up a whole oven for small quantities of foods or for something quick like croissants in the morning. I decided to buy something branded in this case Philips with the hope that I’d be getting a good quality and long lasting product. Size-wise, it was between a dual basket ( but smaller individually) system or an XL basket. I decided that a bigger basket was probably better for us. However, even the XL basket isn’t all that large. You’d fit a small whole chicken in to it but for other things like nuggets, chips, ribs, wings etc, you’d get plenty in it. So, size could be a bit better. Now the good points: Speed. there is no pre-heat for this. It heats up really quickly and that’s one of the biggest benefits over a conventional oven. It also cooks hell of a lot faster as a result of it being a small closed system. Next best thing: Crunch! I admit it, I was sceptical but I take it all back, it is superior to my oven. What else, the Phillips system allows you to detach the basket from the drawer which is handy and also allows easy cleaning. All in all a very good and useful gadget. I’ve used my normal oven a lot less since getting this.
Philips Essential Air fryer with Rapid Air Technology, 1.2Kg, 6.2Litre, 2000 Watt, Black, Model HD9270/91
We had seen “Air Fryers” in the shops but were not sure what they offered — now we don’t cook without it.
This is in effect a small contained fan assisted oven and requires a slightly different approach. The many thousands of cook books are based on using a conventional oven so there is initially doubts over how to use an air fryer for best effect. No problem, the user manual will explain everything…but there was no manual !!
Philips have decided that we all have computers and smart phones and don’t need a hard copy of instructions — they expect us to download them and print our own hard copies or use the computer (that’s in the kitchen of course) or use our phones when we want to know what to do. It’s not convenient to fire up the computer everytime you have a query.
For a company like Philips to do this especially on an appliance that many will not have used before is a BIG fail !
The user manual issue apart, this is a fine machine. It’s fairly big so be aware of the footprint and whether it will fit comfortably on the work top as this is not an appliance to “put away until needed”, it stays in place. You will need an available space of about 15″ front to back and about 13″ side to side with about 16″-17″ in height.
Once plugged in, it is a little confusing being faced with a lot of bright orange lights/symbols and without wishing to repeat it, an instruction card or start up instructions would make such a huge difference. It was at this point I printed a hard copy of the manual of 22 pages.
Basically the display shows three large digits that show temperature and time alternating surrounded by seven pre-set cooking categories plus adjustment controls to vary settings depending on what you want.
The operation starts when the large front draw is closed but is automatically paused if the draw is opened to check progress. Cooking resumes when the drawer is closed again. The outer draw contains a heavy metal liner/basket which has a safety lock built into the handle.
Because the cooking process is contained in a small fan assisted space, the cooking is “dry” and in theory uses no fat hence the claims for more healthy eating. Most air fryer cook books however suggest a very light coating of oil on certain items — another reason why a little more prior explanation would have been helpful.
There is one large tray stated at 6+ litres and this will take 4-5 chicken portions or even a whole medium sized chicken. We found that the single tray was a bit restrictive and so I bought an accessory set which contained tiered racks which allow multiple item to be cooked at the same time and silicone pots/dishes and a variety of flat pans. It would have been nice if Philips had included a few of the more important items (especially the multi tiered rack and a couple of silicone dishes) but I can understand the necessity of meeting a price point.
A capacity of 6+ litres and a power rating of 2,000 watts make it a capable machine and one that has a place in most kitchens if you have the space. Philips is a trusted and reliable supplier of quality products and a name we have known for many years — a safe pair of hands.
The HD9270/91 is smart, black and an attractive shape that blends well amongst the other worktop items. It performs well once you get to know how to use it and at 135 (discounted from 200) it’s a good buy.
Oh what a pity about the user manual !!!
The gadget you didn’t know you needed. Very quiet and efficient. Not massive in capacity but works well for us as a family of 3 and does t block out half the kitchen counter. Heats up 2nd day pizza within 3 minutes and tasted like fresh
Really handy to have. Can cook allsorts in this. Easy to keep clean too.
Had the previous manual version, which was great. Upgrading to the digital and larger version has been a success!! Easy to use and clean, so far no negative comments. Recommended item.
I’ve been hankering after an air fryer for some time so was delighted to receive this item right at the point that I was having a re-jig of our weekly food schedule.
This particular model from Philips is their usual minimalist-but-still-a-big-black-plastic-object style that is well made and with simple, ergonomic controls. Unlike some devices in this genre, there isn’t much in the way of complicated settings to deal with. You just set the temperature and the timer. You could press one of the shortcut buttons but they are just quick ways to get certain temperature/timer combinations. If you don’t happen to like those presets then tough.
In operation it is fairly quiet and it just goes about its business. It chimes a sound when it is done, and you simply open it up to remove the drawer and its contents. As a fairly sizeable unit with 6.2L capacity it is perhaps a little bulky to handle and deal with the food so that might need to be factored in if intending to purchase for someone with diminished motor skills.
As for how it cooks, I have stuck to the basics for now and can vouch for surprisingly crisp yet fluffy potatoes – which I honestly wasn’t expecting. So much so that I repeated it three times in the same week just to check that the first time wasn’t a fluke – but it has been consistent. It doesn’t seem to make much mess and cleaning it is straightforward.
It’s not the most attractive thing in the world to take precious countertop space. I like a minimal kitchen at the best of times and there are a lot of kitchen wonder-gadgets that would all like to vie for some of that space. For now, it lives at the front of my lower cupboard next to my slow-cooker and my ‘health grill’ – both devices that I put in the same class as this. Like those items, it too is quite big so you do have to make sure you’ve got room for where it will live and how easy you can get to it else it will gather dust. Get a meal schedule written-up so you can commit to getting the most out of it.
Remember back in the day when a certain fruity named IT company launched their first hand held mp3 players and phones? And if you happened to know a proud recipient of one… then lordy lord you knew it all right… you’d think they’d invented it themselves not just bought it…. I’m sad to admit that might be me now with my wonderful new air fryer….. I’m a total convert! Quick, easy, healthy(er) and pretty stylish on the worktop too! So far….. chips, cauliflower, tofu, sausages, halumi, spring rolls, crisps, chick peas….. but I don’t need to tell you all this…. I probably already have…..
Finally after two years of procrastinating, finally purchased this Airfryer.
It looks so nice, is a a bit big but fits a decent amount of food on the inside. So makes prepping a meal for a family 4 easy, even if in batches (2 adults, 2 young children).
It is definitely like a small oven as mentioned in other comments. It cooks faster than an oven which makes eating healthy or prepping a quick healthy meal way much easier.
It comes with an app that has loads of recipes and ideas and so easy to use. I think this is great as the app can be updated from time to time. Recipes include nutritional info too.
As others mentioned, if it should have had a manual too. Some people might find it easier to read. There’s a leaflet included which demonstrates a bit about the Airfryer for safety reasons. But still that won’t put off how amazing this Fryer is.
It doesn’t make a disturbing noise at all. Very quite and releases a bit of steam from them back. It does beep when food is ready.
All in all so happy with it, I can even toast bread in it and prepare loads of delicious healthy meals not only things that require frying, and been using it daily.
As usual this Philips brand air fryer didn’t fail to impress. It has a capacity of 6.2 litres and is powered by 2000 watts of electricity. The touch screen has seven presets and the display is digital. Preset programmes include: frozen snacks, fresh fries, meat, fish, chicken drumsticks, cake and grilled vegetables. You can make all sorts of food with up-to 90% less fat/oil/grease. Food comes out crispy on the outside and tender on the inside due Rapid Air Technology. You can download the NutriU app for lots of recipe ideas. I’ve had excellent results cooking food such as chips, coated fish, coated chicken, hash browns, fish fingers etc. All my food has come out really well, without adding additional oil/fat/grease. I’ve had a few air fryers before this one and I can say this is one of the better ones. I also own a Ninja air fryer and this Philips air fryer is just as impressive as that one. The machine is easy to clean, just remove the basket and either hand wash (that’s what I do) or wash in the dishwasher. The outside can be wiped down with a damp cloth and a small amount of detergent. This air fryer doesn’t come with instructions in the box but it’s really easy to use. This is a really useful product to have in the kitchen – it saves you from heating up your large oven and is much easier to check food whilst it’s cooking. I’ve used this air fryer almost every day since receiving it and I can’t really fault it. At the moment this air fryer is discounted to 134.99. I do consider this to be a bit on the expensive side.
I never really thought an air fryer was a necessary addition to the kitchen, though I had been intrigued about the reported health benefits, so I was interested to try this out – and I love it!!
With a 6.2 litre capacity, this is a great size for a family. We eat oven chips on a fairly regular basis, so our first try with this was home made chips – our first attempt didn’t work out too well, with the chips coming out fairly soggy. After looking at a few recipes, it was clear the problem was that I hadn’t dried the chips off properly after soaking them for 20 mins. The next attempt, with properly dried potatoes, showed just how great this air fryer is – perfectly cooked, crispy chips in around 30 minutes, using just a tiny amount of oil! These were genuinely the nicest chips we’ve ever had, I am so impressed! Next attempt was roasted sweet potatoes, which came out absolutely perfectly too.
The machine is really easy to use – there are a number of presets, and a setting to keep the food warm, which is really handy if you’re trying to time this with cooking something else on the stove top too. Taking out the drawer with the food in it is a little bit cumbersome, but not unmanageable. It helps to have some silicone utensils to remove the food from the basket though, rather than trying to turn the basket over to empty it. Everything is really easy to clean, and the non-stick has worked brilliantly so far, having used it for chips and a variety of roast veg, including courgettes, aubergine and peppers.
In operation, the fryer gives off a quiet hum, and although it beeps when the cooking cycle is complete, it’s very quiet and easy to miss if you’re not in the same room. As I’ve found with so many kitchen appliances, the cable could do with being a bit longer, as I’m having to use an extension with it. Those are tiny wee niggles though.
I had recently bought the baking mould to go with the air fryer, as I really liked the idea of being able to make casseroles and cakes in the air fryer – unfortunately the one I received was far too small and had to be returned, despite the description saying it was suitable for the XL air fryer. The baking mould currently listed on the air fryer’s ‘Buy it with….’ section suggests buying a baking mould which says it’s for the XXL air fryer, confusingly. Very frustrating as there seems to be several choices of baking mould, and several models of air fryer, so there’s no clear information on which one is the right one to buy!
If you’ve been swithering about getting an air fryer, and wondering whether they’re worth it, then go for it – this has already been so useful, and we’ve only scratched the surface of what you can do with it, so I can see it being used most days – especially if I ever find the right size baking mould to go with it!
Update – We cooked a whole “extra large” chicken in this! In an hour!
This is my first air fryer, but it was extremely easy to figure out (which is good as the instructions are negligible!) and cleaning is a five-minute job of wiping a few things with soapy water. I don’t like the touch sensitive “buttons” which don’t reliably respond to me unless I tap a bit off the centre. This size is probably a quite bit more air fryer than I actually need: cooking for two people leaves tonnes of space in the basket – unless you have a big family, think about the smaller size or one of those multi-compartment models. That said, it’s easy to move around thanks to a low centre of gravity and two solid hand-wells for picking it up, and all the actual mechanical parts are simple and reliable.
If you’ve also not used an air fryer before, to get the basic points out of the way: they’re an absolute revelation for making oven chips, roast potatoes, or anything else I’d throw in the oven to cook and crisp up. Actually crisp, tasty oven chips for once, without waiting for my oven to pre-heat. It doesn’t actually fry things though, and air fryer recipes are basically just oven versions of fried things. (e.g. Air fryer chicken wings are basically just baked wings.) Although there aren’t air fryer instructions on any of the things I’ve cooked, adaptations are easy to find online. The oven cooking rule of throwing something in at 200 Celsius and checking every 10 or 15 minutes has also done me well.
For 5 months, it’s been smooth-sailing using this air fryer for cooking, without access to a stove.
Cleaning, is simple, and only requires removing the cooking tray,
Out of the box, it can be operated simply in my opinion through the touch screen menu, however there is no manual included but can be downloaded through a QR code. The construction quality is phenomenal, lightweight and guaranteed to last a very long time.
I’ve been using air fryers for at least a decade now, all different makes and from different manufacturers. Although I’ve tried on a few occasions to cook things like chicken, beef, etc the main purpose that I use it for is a replacement for a deep fat fryer. As well as being healthier and uses less oil, it’s a lot safer.
This comes with a larger basket than my previous air fryer. The layout of touch-based buttons is similar to the one I had before as well — timer buttons on the right, heat buttons on the left, and preset buttons at the bottom.
I used it during Christmas period to cook varying amount of French fries and roast potatoes. For one dinner I put a whole 1.5kg bag of french fries into the basket. Whatever amount of potatoes/French fries I cooked, they all came out cooked to perfection — the only thing that varied was the amount of time that it took to cook them.
With these type of air fryers where there is no stirring paddle, you just need to remember to shake/move the contents every 5 or 10 minutes. That may seem an annoyance, but I’ve gotten used to doing it over the years.
Overall, a good basic air fryer that will help you eat healthier.
A very good Airfryer that’s easy to use. You can download the manual online and it’s more convenient than using an oven. Great for the price and fast delivery .
This is quite a chunky piece of equipment, square, tall and quite heavy so where I chose to keep it on my worktop is where it will stay. It is very easy to keep clean, just pull out the draw and the inner pan easily separates from the main pan and wash in soapy water.
I love cooking sausages in the air fryer they seem to hold more flavour and cook evenly. Chips and wedges cook evenly and brown all over so long as you turn or shake them half way . Only a small amount of oil is needed so healthier to. Most food items cook quicker in the fryer to.
I did have to download my own instruction book from the internet which is ok if you have a printer, there are quite a few pages. I was disappointed that there was no recipe booklet so I ordered one off Amazon. I think that this will be a well used piece of equipment and the more I use it the more versatile it becomes.
The food from this air fryer is so yummy and what’s most important very healthy. Easy to use and clea
For years, I’ve heard so many wonderful things about air fryers but always been deterred by the price incase it’s a case of use once then store at the back of the cupboard or the risk it might take up too much space on our cramped worktops and not justify its presence. Now, having used this machine for a month, I have joined friends in also saying wonderful things about it too.
The air fryer is large – larger than I had anticipated but this has actually been a huge benefit. Build quality is good, it sits squat on its base with a footprint of approx 28cm square (excluding handle) and justifies it all. My initial disappointment was the lack of printed manual and cooking tips, guidelines and/or recipes. A booklet is available via Philips’ NutriU App (39.2mb) for use on an Android 6 (or higher) phone but not tablet. Apparently. However, this is of no interest or use to us: we don’t want to read cooking instructions from a phone in a damp or steamy kitchen and I know some older users who don’t use apps and younger traditional households who are far from tech-savvy and simply want to cook for their family. When buying an expensive and unfamiliar product I would like a proper printed paper manual, so I have automatically deducted a star for this disappointing omission. For anyone keen on using their phone in the kitchen, then the NutriU app can be paired with the air fryer to monitor cooking but note that an account needs to be registered with Philips in order to fully use the app. As for its usefulness or functionality, together with the content of the included recipes, I can’t pass any comment because we do not have a WiFi signal in our kitchen and unless the fryer is paired to the phone and used upstairs in our home office or lounge, there doesn’t seem to be any way to bypass the phone-fryer pairing to progress towards the menus. Very disappointing again.
As for the fryer itself, the air frying basket pan is huge with a 1.2kg capacity, ie a full typical 1kg bag of supermarket frozen chips, sufficient for a hungry family of 5-6. Initially I had assumed chips were the main reason for using an air fryer but it is much more versatile and can be used for ‘oven-frying’ of chips, fish fillets, probably most frozen prepared foods, chicken wings/legs and other smaller prepared foods. Cooking is clean and fast, with far less smell than conventional cooking and the results are so much better than oven-baking. Chips, whether cooked from frozen or fresh potatoes (soak in water then dry before use), emerge crisp on the outside then light and fluffy inside rather than dry and powdery which is how our oven-baked chips generally fare. Other foods were the same – cooked fast ie about 5-10 minutes faster than oven-baking but with light crispy outers and moist, fresh-tasting inside whether cooking chicken pieces, breaded fish, meat, pizza, burgers, bacon slices (a successful experiment), sausages or even apple pie. Another day we cooked part-baked bread, again with excellent results but reduced the temperature by 20C from the temperature recommended on the packaging. Preset temperatures are given on the fryer for specific foods but, in the absence of easy access to the NutriU app, we used a combination of guesswork, equivalent oven temperatures (up to 200C) and trial and error to work out the best timings which were generally about 10-20% shorter cooking times than the equivalent of oven cooking but added 3 minutes warm-up time when using the fryer from cold. The app access isn’t essential and we found the controls ie presets, temperature and timer with arrow keys to be highly intuitive.
We added a light sunflower oil coating to our chips made from potatoes before cooking but added no fat or oil to any other foods. We also shook the chip pan half-way through cooking when cooking chips but otherwise we simply popped food into the basket, set the timer then left the fryer to work unsupervised. After use, the basket and pan were easy to wash with the pan collecting fat drips from meat and burgers and just a few crispy bits from the chips. Both are dishwasher safe for even greater ease.
A month on following almost daily usage, we are converted to air frying. This air fryer is so versatile and can be used for cooking probably almost anything – we were tempted to try a full chicken at Christmas but suspected this would cook unevenly due to its size, but we have used it for re-heating legs, checking their internal temperature with a food thermometer. A feature we particularly like is the keep warm option so that, after cooking, food can be kept hot for a further 30 minutes without drying up.
If anyone has any doubts about buying an air fryer, just as we did, I would highly recommend making the investment for the convenience, ease of use, fast cooking times, minimal mess or washing up afterwards and delicious, crisp yet not dried-up food. Although expensive and a little bulky on the worktop I found this machine fully earns its pride of place in our kitchen and is actually ideal for a smaller kitchen and has the potential to fully replace a typical cooker for a smaller household of 1-3 while supplementing a conventional oven/hob for larger families of 4-6.
Regarding recipe ideas, for anyone who finds the NutriU app impractical or inaccessible to use in a kitchen, then there are many recipes online including a useful booklet for a different (HD9230) machine on the Philips US website which acted as a very good starting point for us. Later I stumbled upon the 23 page manual for this fryer (HD9270/91) but doesn’t include recipes.
5 stars for design, ease of use, practicality and performance.
4 stars awarded for lack of manual and cooking guidelines of an expensive product, and relying wholly on the app as a substitute.
I have used an air fryer before so I am quite used to using one. This Philips Essential Fryer is a good one, it has a nice size to it. The basic is deep so I can use a rack in it to make it more efficient when cooking in.
This size fryer would be large enough for a medium-size chicken that you would get from the supermarket. The basket is good for two, three at a push for chips or roasties.
The fryer is a large size and it does take up a good amount of the work surface, you do need to make sure it is not against the wall as the fan at the back needs to be able to vent the steam from the cooking process.
The basket is easy to slot in and out, also very easy to clean. I don’t have a dishwasher and it is so easy to clean in the sink with hot soapy water.
There is a leaflet that doesn’t actually give you any recipes or instructions it is a warranty leaflet! instead, you are given advice on an app to download. While I do have a phone, pc and such I don’t really want yet another app, I would have preferred an actual paper leaflet with tips, hints and recipes. Given that this is a Philips appliance I did expect more.
The programming, well that is interesting as there wasn’t an instruction leaflet! You basically plug it in and press the play/pause/on/off button (right-hand side below the arrows) this button turns the fryer on. To select one of the pre-programs you press the 3 lines (left-hand side below the arrows) this then scrolls through the 8 pre-sets, each one is highlighted so you can see which one is which. When you arrive at the pre-set one you want you can then press the play/pause/on/off button again and it will start cooking.
I do think this could have been simplified so that you could just press each image, which was how my other one works.
The actual cooking process for this fryer is good and I will say that it does do a better job than my other one, the cooking is a much healthier one. If I use bought chips then I don’t bother adding any oil, f I have homemade ones then I will sprinkle some oil over the potato prior to putting it in the basket. I do use accessories with my fryer and it is worth getting these ars you can cook more than one thing at a time. I have managed a full meal for myself and my husband in one of these and it is good for two adults.
I have made chips, roasties, cooked chops, fish, sausages, made frittatas, cooked and reheated various other food and I do like this a lot. I do think there could be some improvements, but this is my own personal opinion.
This is essentially a mini oven, the inside has an element at the top and has a fan that helps to radiate the heat. It is easy to keep clean and for a small amount of food, it is better than having my larger oven on. It does do a great job of reducing the amount of fat when it comes to things that I would put in the fryer.
I do like this and I would recommend it.
I’ve been wanting to try out an Airfryer for some time and in just two weeks this machine has become part of my cooking routine.
The fryer arrived well packaged (using cardboard rather than polystyrene packaging which is a plus). This is one of the larger size home airfryers out there so it takes up quite a bit of space on the counter but it gives you greater versatility and means you can cook for several people at once.
If you’re just looking to cook for one or two people and space is a problem then Philips do make more compact versions. Setup was fairly easy but the instructions in the box are not the best – Philips themselves have a Youtube channel with a demo video so I recommend watching this first.
There are several preset options for different food types but these are just a guide and you can’t entirely trust them. Overall I would recommend this machine to anyone who wants a large airfryer.
Philips Essential Airfryer with Rapid Air Technology, 1.2Kg, 6.2L, 2000 Watt, 5 portions, Black, HD9270/91
Guilt-free eating your favorite fried food is now a reality. This air fryer cooks with 90% less fat using rapid air technology. You wouldn’t even know it’s healthy.
This basket-type Philips air fryer is large enough for a small whole chicken. But because it is a basket type, it will be awkward when you need to flip the chicken over because the sides are hot. So I suggest cutting the chicken in half or getting an oven with a rotisserie attachment. Some accessories could be bought to make your experience better with the basket-type air fryer.
There’s nothing special about this item compared to cheaper ones other than being digital. I am even surprised that you will need to use more effort when pulling out the basket – it doesn’t have a button to release as you pull like other brands I’ve seen. But I trust that the non-stick coating will not peel off like the cheaper brand we had, which had already started rusting with this brand. This large basket type is messy to clean up in the sink, especially if you have a small sink.
The manual is online, and they’ve provided a QR code for access, but annoyingly you’d have to register with your email address. Overall, a good air fryer for those with bigger sinks and muscular arms.
The Philips essential air fryer model HD 9270/91 does not come with a users manual, this has to be downloaded by scanning the included QR code within the pack of safety leaflets. This was a little inconvenient and disappointing that Phillips chose to do this, but I personally found this was the only negative point for me in using this air fryer. Once removing the sticky tape that secures the draw for transport plus labels and cardboard from the air fryer, You are almost ready to start cooking. The draw is recommended to be removed and cleaned with hot soapy water using a non-abrasive sponge or cloth and then dried. The air fryer measures approximately 30.5 X 27.5 X 27 cm, which is height, width and depth. The power cable is approximately 78 cm in length. Once you have powered on the air fryer the touchscreen Display illuminates with The following items, 7 food preset symbols and a keep warm or reheat symbol, Menu preset button, temperature increase and decrease buttons, time with increase and decrease button plus start and pause button. When pressing the menu preset button the food symbol that you are on will flash and by pressing the menu preset button it will scroll through the preset symbols. The food preset symbols are as follows frozen chips, fresh chips, chicken, Fish, baked goods, meat, vegetables and keep warm or reheat. These presets have a built-in suggested time and temperature for the specific type of food that you are cooking, however these can be adjusted to your preference by pressing the increase and decrease arrows for the Time and temperature to suit your individual choice. The temperature can be set from 60 C to 200 C in 5 C increments and the time can be set from 1 to 60 minutes in 1 minute increments, But pressing and holding the up and down arrows on the time and temperature will increase or decrease much faster. Once you have chosen your presets and you are happy with the time and temperature, then press the start button and the air fryers motor will begin and your food will start cooking. The timer will countdown and if you open the draw to check the contents, Then the timer will automatically pause until you Close the draw which will resume the timer countdown. When the timer countdown has elapsed there is free audible beeps to alert you that your food is cooked and ready to serve. The air fryer draw is easy to clean as it breaks down into two separate pieces which I have demonstrated in my included video. This also can be placed in the dishwasher and the air fryer itself is easy to wipe clean with a moist cloth. There is also another QR code that can be scanned and it will take you to the App Store to download the NutriU Air fryer recipes and tips app. I hope you have found my video and review helpful.
This thing is really good, to the point where I’m using it for all sorts of cooking.
If your’e looking at buying this, you’re probably thinking in terms of cooking slightly more healthy chips and not an awful lot more. This thing does an awful lot more than chips though. It comes with an app to download, because obviously everything has an app, but this one is actually very good and useful. You can download it without purchase if you want to check it out, it’s called NutriU and this gives a really huge range of really good recipes you can cook with this airfryer. A lot of the dishes call for the use of the extra ‘baking kit mould’ (HD9945/01) but I heartily recommend you invest in one as it greatly expands what you can cook in this thing. Everything from fruit cake to frittata has so far come out perfectly.
Out of the box, it takes moments to set it up but there is a distinct lack of instructions on how to use this device which is baffling as it’s trivially easy to use, but not intuitive. You have two controls – one sets the temperature, one sets the timer, and you press start. There are some presets for various food types, but these just set the timer and temperature to defaults, so in practice you don’t really need them. Press start, and it whirrs into life, and then a dinger lets you know when its done. It’s quiet in use, but you’ll know its on – it’s about as loud as a fridge.
Cleaning is easy, as everything slides out and unclips, and all the cooking surfaces are non-stick. The cooking tray is pretty big and easily holds enough for a family. It doesn’t get particularly hot in use, and is solid and won’t move on your work surface.
It cooks really well, and if you do want it for chips – well, it makes really good chips. You’ll find yourself peeling potatoes and cutting ‘real’ chips rather than oven chips for this thing, because it really makes outstandingly good ones.
I’m loving this thing, its quick clean and easy to use, food retains much more flavour than other methods, and its obviously more healthy than a deep fat fryer. Recomended.

The Philips Essential Airfryer with Rapid Air Technology is a compact air fryer which doesn’t take too much space on the side. The capacity is much smaller than most air fryers I have owned/come across however like most; it has a many features such as roast, bake, air fryer and reheat.
The air fryer has an LED display with touch controls which allow you to adjust the temperature and time; including the pre-set options such as fries and cakes etc. The keep warm functionality maintains the temperature of food for up to 30 mins, the air fryer itself can be programmed to cook up to 1 hour, the maximum temperature output being 200C.
I’ve found that the air fryer works better when the basket isn’t too full, Ive found that cooking smaller batches work better – therefore, I wouldn’t recommend this if you’re cooking for a big family/alot of people. This is suitable for 2-3 people.
Pros:
– Compact air fryer; ideal if lacking counter space, a lot smaller than most air fryers which I have used.
– Touch panel LED display, easy and straightforward to use.
– Fast heat up and cooking time; food cooks quickly and evenly the air fryer.
Cons:
– Small capacity; not rally ideal for larger families.
– No reminder to shake or turn foods.
The Philips Essential XL isn’t a bad air fryer at all in my opinion – it’s good value for money and high quality. It lives up my my expectations of a Philips product, recommended.
The instructions for this fryer are on line, there is a diagram enclosed with the fryer but it is not very helpful, so the on line instructions are essential. There is a Q code as well as a Webb address. The frying compartment is a reasonable size and it is easy to insert and remove. It does get rather sticky but is not too difficult to clean. I am surprised at the versatility of the fryer, there are lots of recipes on line and vegetables, fish and poultry are easy to cook once prepared. I have not tried red meat in the fryer as I don’t eat much meat, but I can’t see that there would be problems with it.
I do find the kitchen gets a bit steamy but the kitchen gets less steamy than with deep fat frying and the air-fried food is so much healthier. The food is also crispy, well cooked and very tasty. A good buy if you prefer food fried in this healthy way and have worktop space for the fryer.
Philips Essential Air fryer with Rapid Air Technology
I was tempted into buying a Philips air fryer a couple of years ago, I had never considered buying one before but as the price had been heavily discounted I thought I’d give it a try. That was one of the best decisions I have ever made, I really don’t know what I would do without ours now. The big advantage of using an air fryer is that it cooks so quickly, the food that’s cooked crisps up nicely on the outside without drying up inside. I have never been a lover of oven chips or frozen roast potatoes, as they always seem to come out hard and dry when oven cooked. But when cooked in the air fryer they are super crisp on the outside but also soft and moist on the inside.
What I like about the Philips air fryer design is how easy it is to clean up after cooking, just a squirt of washing liquid in the removable basket assembly, along with some hot water, a quick brush around and jobs done.
I have over the past couple of years taken note of various air fryer designs from other manufacturers, I think Philips have their design spot on. I particularly like the way the basket assembly just slides in and out of the machine, just a quick shake of the basket every now and then allows for all round even cooking.
I have been more than pleased with our older model Philips air fryer. This model is an improved version of what already is an impressive cooker. The air fryer body is slightly bigger offering a larger food capacity. It’s good to see the wire base of the basket has been replaced with an all metal base making it easier to remove stuck on food. The fat collector in the bottom is easier to clean as all obstructions have now been removed. There is also a lock on the basket to prevent it being accidentally released when lifting it from the machine. On the previous model I dropped the fat collector tray a couple of times by accidentally pressing the release button, that is now fixed via the lock button. Another big upgrade is that this is now fully digital for setting cooking time and temperature, along with several food presets. To be honest I’m in two minds over this as I found the 2 rotating dials so easy to use, going digital makes it a little more complicated, but I guess they have to keep up with technology.
All in all this is a cracking air fryer, the previous model was top class, this model is even better.

Thank you for reading my review, I hope you have found it helpful.
This is a fantastic air fryer, I have used them for years so I do have some experience. Basically, all you have to do is control time and temperature and the fryer will do the rest with no pre-heating required. When cooking you can pull out the draw and the fryer will stop, push it back in and it will continue cooking, useful to give your food a shake and move it around. The draw and basket are dishwasher friendly but will wash or wipe clean quite easily due to the non stick surface. The airfryer is supplied with a UK 3 pin plug but the lead is only 80cm which I found a little short and limited where I could place it in my kitchen.
But this is not for everyone. Philips have assumed that everyone has smartphones, computers and internet. The Philips Essential Airfryer with Rapid Air Technology doesn’t come with instructions apart from a multi language guide with a few diagrams which tell you nothing. You are expected to download the ‘NutriU’ app and pair the airfryer to your smartphone. For this you need to set up an account with Philips. The app opened up saying I was connected to the HD928X model but this needed to be changed to HD9270. I don’t consider myself technically challenged but there was no way I could get the airfryer into setup mode. One possible reason for this is that it is too far away from the router. But I am not using my airfryer in the living room!
If you do manage to connect to to your phone then you can operate it remotely and with voice commands through Alexa or similar or so I am led to believe.
There are videos on YouTube which I recommend you check out to get some understanding of how the airfryer works and if you need to bypass the setup and are able to get to the ‘NutriU’ main content then there are useful recipes and guides to be found there.
I know of many people who would struggle to understand how to use this airfryer which is a shame because it does an excellent job if you can operate it.
I received this product for free as part of the Amazon Vine Programme.
Wow!!! What a great product! All of my friends have been telling me to get an airfryer and I just wasn’t sure so I thought I’d give it a go when it came up on Vine and I must say I have been converted! I get the hype now!
This air fryer is so big (bigger than I was expecting) but it also looks so sleek and has a lovely black finish. There is so much room in the basket for food and we tried our cauliflower popcorn in it first and it was delicious! We found that it cooked it quicker than the oven and gave the cauliflower popcorn a really nice crisp. I would’ve taken a picture of it for the review but we gobbled it down so quickly! The only downside we found was that the instructions weren’t the clearest and we’ve never had an air fryer before so it was a bit confusing but once we got the hang of it, it was pretty good! Also it’s a little bit hard to unclick the basket from the drawer. But other than that we are absolutely loving it and I think we’re going to be having air fryer dinners from now on!
