Great quality to price ratio, they sound amazing and the anc works just right, many people claim that the touch panel is too sensitive and can be annoying, but it’s not a case for me, i think it works pretty nicely.
Nice pair of headphone’s,the sound and quality is great, just as good as sony or boose. I would recommend these headphone’s to anyone.
If you can get these on offer you will not be disappointed. I dont think you can compare with the top end at full price but they do sound good and just work. They can get a bit hot on the ears after a while but not uncomfortably so.
Good sound, great price, comfortable to wear. Tiny bit irritating with the pointless touch control, very easy to accidentally trigger it and make it cycle between ambient sound / anc on / anc off, an every time it switches from one to the other there’s a voice informing you that it happened, during which time you can’t hear the audio that it being played. You get used to it though, and they’re overall very good.
Bought on the last Amazon sale. Was the bargain of my day. Noise cancellation was tested at the weekend past with a fan on & the refrigerator that was having a meltdown. Cue the noise cancellation, worked a treat, all I heard was the TV
The sound is great. The bass is strong too. The noise reduction isn’t the best but I did use the Sony mx4 which is 200 plus
Mi isolo e a mio parere funzionano benissimo. E funzionano bene.
Although a little pricey they are worth purchasing, sound quality is good, sort really use noise reduction as of yet, they fit comfortably, but after wearing for a long period on a warm weather day the ears get sweaty.
Complimenti a Philips
I’d bought these to replace some lost Beats; in most ways I’m more than pleased with them. However, the main issue I have is that it’s very easy to accidentally disable the ANC when trying to start/pause – and, when pausing, if you then sit them round your neck – the switch is on my shoulder; so by the time I start again, I have to spend a bit of time getting back to where it was before.
I’ll have to get into the habit of turning them right off/on again, I guess.
I can’t comment on the sound quality from the point of view of music, as I use them to listen to audio books (hence starting again at the right place is kind of important!)
Overall, though, compared to the cost of replacing the beats, they’re worth the slight quirks. (Oh, and I”ve yet to work out how I can tell how much battery is left when I turn them on.)
I own a pair of airpod pro’s that are great for listening to music but I feel like over the ear headphones definitely have the edge when it comes to online meetings for work as the conversations are definitely clearer using these headphones compared to my airpod pro’s.
I spend around 8-9 hours a day using these headphones on average and they’re great, the touch pad on the ear for changing between ANC on, off and ambient sound is a great feature and very handy.
I normally wear glasses whilst working on the computer and I will admit that after a few hours the headphones can start to feel a bit uncomfortable so I tend to take little breaks with them off to rest my ears which I believe is likely due to my glasses rather than headphones themselves.
The headphones battery life is also superb and they charge VERY quickly just using the usb cable plugged into my laptop.
Great product for the price, just wish I didn’t need to wear glasses so I could enjoy their comfort to the fullest!
Got these on sale, and I’m really pleased with them. I wanted a pair of over ear headphones that were value for money but didn’t sacrifice on quality. For a lower-mid range pair of headphones (and that’s how I’m reviewing them), I think they’re spot on.
Pros
The sound quality (when wired) is fantastic. I don’t listen to loads of base-heavy music, but I would say that these perform pretty well for all kinds of music. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and podcasts too, and they are just as solid there.
The noise cancelling isn’t the best ever but it works well enough. I’ve worn these on a flight to watch films and listen to music, and they can drown out most of the background noise. If noise cancelling is what you are after there are certainly better headphones out there. It’s not really a con – as I don’t have a great need for it – but it’s not the best ever by any means.
I’ve phone these fit quite well, I’ve worn them for long periods without any discomfort. I often wear them at work and they are quit comfortable.
The microphone is decent enough that I can take a call indoors (with decent quality) or outdoors (not on a windy day…) that I don’t have to switch back to my phone microphone.
Cons
The touch controls, in a post-covid world, where we are taking face-masks on and off, is a bit annoying – you can accidentally toggle between different modes (ANC, Ambient Sound, etc.) without wanting to. It’s by no means a dealbreaker, and able to adjust the volume via touch is great, but it’s still frustrating nonetheless.
Overall, I would say these are a really solid pair of headphones that do everything well (but would not come out as best in class in any category). Definitely worth a purchase if you want an upgrade from a lower-end spec set, or if you can get them at a reasonable price.
Great for its price, great sound quality comparing to anything in its price range but it kept randomly says “max volume” when I’m typing without anything playing in the background even it’s nowhere near “max volume” at all. The folding hinge locking mechanism does not last long at all although it doesn’t affect usability
These headphones are the perfect example of quality for price.
It preforms as you expect headphone of such price to do, and excedes its competitors.
Noise cancellation could be better if you are looking for extreme silence, yet for studying with people at home, taking the subway and other tasks are more than good enough.
Sound quality is also great, once again what you’d expect for its price.
Material builds feel good and sturdy
The headphones improve the experience but don’t give me silence. Was I expecting too much?
I do like the sound and comfort so am keeping – if you want silence maybe you need to pay lots more??
Outstanding sound quality and extremely comfortable headphones. Criticism of the control system is not really an issue for me. Fantastic for the price.
Really good for the money, decent ANC (Not great) but still good for me, quality is really good and the case is very good
I’m a bit of a newbie to the world of headphones so cannot compare to other products. Its early days but so far I find these to be extremely comfortable with great sound. I primarily use these to watch TV (2018 LG oled) via Bluetooth. It connected easily and I don’t get the sound lag I’ve been reading about. Yes I can see how the touch sensitive pad can be annoying as you can easily mistakenly swith ANC settings but this hasn’t been a problem for me as I leave it alone.
I was initially looking at the new bose or Sony ones but glad I went with the Philips as the price is a third of the big boys.
Great to wear and strong robust carrying case.
Got these for the wife. She is not particularly ‘tech’ but these are easy to get use to. Once left and right was sorted all went well, and the audio/voice feedback was useful. You need a little care to avoid accidentally operating the volume control, but just need the correct habit in handling.
This has very good sound quality and easy to use!
Despite the sound quality not being jaw dropping compared to competition, it is undoubtedly in high tier of products in this price range.
This headset is my very first with built in active noise cancellation technology, thus it’s hard to assess it objectively. Yet, it feels highly effective in all environments, reducing intensity of outside noises particularly well in cars or aircraft.
Unfortunately comfort suffers slightly in pair with efficient passive noise cancelling. This might be purely a subjective issue as I find it uncomfortable to wear for more than 4h.
This is my first pair of noise cancelling headphones and can honestly say I was impressed, good sound quality and noise cancelling is good enough that I couldn’t hear other passengers on the plane. Only downside to them is the touch pad operation to change between normal/noise cancelling
The headphones are comfortable and the audio quality good but the headband cushioning started to disintegrate after 6 months. They were used carefully and never left the house. Amazon replaced the headphones
great all round headphones, black friday deal great price, very pleased, thanks.
Mas ainda assim no me arrependo.
Overall these headphones have great sound quality and one of few I can wear for long period of times without feeling uncomfortable. Build quality is good and looks quite nice. I can easily recommend these headphones to anyone however there are a few things to note.
Firstly, the touch controls are extremely sensitive. It’s easy to accidentally activate or disable ANC just by the gentlest of touch. I knew this before buying and it was very annoying at first though you become more mindful to it overtime.
Active noise cancellation isn’t great however I personally do not use this feature.
Comfort is generally fantastic however the earpads sometimes ‘creaks’ against my glasses arms whilst walking causing a rubbing sound. Not a huge problem for me personally, particularly since they are comfortable to wear with glasses for me.
Brilliant sound quality and battery life for this price. The ANC is not the best though
Did quite a lot of research in to a good pair of over ear noise cancelling headphones and to my mind these represented the best value for money although note the price does vary quite a bit over time. Maybe there are better ones out there but there are some silly prices as well. Very pleased with my purchase and the features suit me to a tee. Recommended.
I paid 77 and for the money definitely worth it. However, it isn’t quite the bargain a lot of reviewers here will have you believe. It’s no frills with much of the money going towards design and sound quality, which for me are the two most important considerations.
I had my friends Sony WH1000XM3 for about a week and a half. This Philips matched it for sound quality and just falls short of the Sony’s noise cancellation. Essentially, as long as all you are after is a very good to excellent sounding noise cancellation then this Philips at its 77 price point represents excellent value for money.
Despite it’s quite handsome looks and very good sound quality, it is a frills free barebones cans. There zero aids to make the experience beyond listening to music pleasant. There is no apps to adjust anything, no ability for users to update firmware and no programable user controls, non, zero. This wouldn’t matter so much but the touch controls are super sensitive and super annoying. Merely adjusting the headset to fit risks deactivating the noise cancellation. Noise on, off and ambient mode is cyclical with almost 7 seconds to cycle through. Ambient mode is err, how should I say..? .. Pointless!!
Despite the above, it represents exceptional value for money for the sound quality and design aesthetic. If only one could disable the touch control completely and use the connected mobile to adjust volume or skip tracks would have made the user experience better, at least for me.
At it’s RRP, then I would say it isn’t worth it. At circa 80, it’s a bit of a steal.
Generally all good and a clear improvement over the, (only slightly cheaper) Sony items I’d tried previously. Only issues for me is that like so many headphones they are rather low bass-biased, but still better than many and that the function announcements are in a slightly irritating US accent female voice – but again less of an annoyance than the even heavier-accented Sony items.
Your ears may get a little sweaty and I think the headphones only connect to one device at a time but brilliant sound quality, awesome noise cancellation and for the price these are a must.
Wanted some NC headphones for the gym because they play music really loud. Excellent NC, great sound quality, comfortable even when running/working out. Nice touch pads for volume, easy to use, good battery life, reasonable price. Super happy with purchase. Comes with a sturdy travel bag, which I don’t use but would do the trick well enough.
For the price these are very good headphones, they are comfy and must be well ventilated as I don’t get sweat behind the ears ect. Easy to connect to devices with a pretty good Bluetooth range. Carry case is very handy that comes with it, although the headset feels like it has a pretty good build quality anyway. The active noise cancelling is very good for the price of the headset which I was surprised about.
My main downside is I prefer wired devices, for me wireless is still lacking and for half the price of a good wireless headset you can get a better wired one. Although the sound quality is good on this device I am half deaf and find it just isn’t loud enough. This means I have to get a sound booster on all my devices which in turn can change the sound quality. But for the price and if you don’t like your music really loud. These are a great pair of headphones.
The physical sound proofing isn’t the best, but being blue tooth 5 makes them really good without the wire too.
Comfy to wear (seems my head is a lesser shape than those who found them uncomfy)
Battery life is good and the sound, whilst not the best I’ve borrowed,
is plenty good enough for my ears…. And excellent for the price
A good all round pair of headphones, you cant go wrong at the price.
I love these so much. I wear them all day everyday and they’re so comfy. I have also worn them for runs and they stay in place well. amazing sound quality and blocks out sound, not 100% but I like the fact I can hear whats going on around me like someone knocking on the door etc. But my potter’s wheel is quite loud and it blocks out that sound beautifully. The only annoying thing is the touch control on the headphone, when I tilt my head to the right and it touches my shoulder it changes the sound mode and when it changes to ambient mode its annoying. What is the point of ambient mode anyway???
I took a punt on these when they popped up with a significant discount and I’m glad I did. The sound quality is so much better than that provided by my phones ear buds. They fit well over my ears and don’t leave me with ear ache (an issue I have with a lot of head phones). They’re easy to charge, and after a little practice, to use too – the tap function on the right ear requires a little getting used to – and the way that they fold down into a carry case makes them easier to travel with and keep charging cables etc in an easy to find spot.
Have been using these for several months now. You get a lot of use per charge and walking alongside busy city streets you can hear your music/podcast without interruption. So I took a gamble and from my perspective that gamble paid off.
Excellent sound and build quality. AS with other reviews noise cancellation is so so and the ambient sound is of no real use as you have to cycle through the settings to activate it. Non of these things should put you off though. They sound great, long battery life and great build quality. I love mine.
He listens to a wide variety of rock music and says these headphones are great quality.
They’ve held up quite well during his daily commute to work too.
Got them at a good price, otherwise I might not have bought them. Glad I did though, they’ve been the best he’s had so far.
Usually, I have trouble with headphones as I have a small head and generally, standard headphones do not fit. These do, which is brilliant. Very happy with my purchase.
Bought because of good reviews, and I like the sound of them. The touch control is a bit fiddly, and I don’t really see the reason why it needs three modes, ANC off/ on should be enough. Easy to pair with different sources.
Excellent quality build, stylish and comfortable too. The deepeth of sound is excellent with a nice clear bass and treble tone. Easily connect to devises and the touch sensitive controls work a treat, for the money these punch way above their weight. Recommended.
Its really nice headphone but one part that’s annoying is ANC (Active Noise Cancelling) button or lack of it. ANC can be switched ON/OFF by touching right side, but there is no marking, same way you can control Volume and some times you switch ON/OFF ANC accidentally while putting headphones o
Bought these as a gift for my wife who favours wireless over-ear headphones. She absolutely loves them and reports that the noise cancellation and sound quality are top notch. The volume control is also good but this scored a 4/5 because sometimes the the tap technology is temperamental or over sensitive. They look sleek and stylish and fold away into a cracking little case. Great buy!
Had I paid 300+ I’d be a bit miffed that the noise cancelling doesn’t quite beat the Bose ones I have used. On offer at just under 100 though, these are quite excellent, you just couldn’t demand more without paying twice as much or more.
Whats to like???
Sound quality is good, they are reasonably loud but you wouldnt play at full volume A) because you’d eventually damage your hearing and B) at full volume others can still hear what you are listening to, defeating the point of headphones. The materials are nice with a high quality feel. The case is really good too.
The touch panel volume and mode control also works well.
Whats not to like?
The toggle switch used to power on and off, or change tracks, is quite soft, and is too easy to bump accidentally. A regular button or two would have been better. Thats the only thing. Charges via micro-usb where most devices are now moving to usb-C, so that’s an extra cable to keep around (included with the headphones) but hardly a tragedy.
I bought these headphones for working from home, removing my need to plug headphones in and have the wire snaking across the keyboard. While the noise cancellation isn’t the best if there is anything noisy going on, they are good robust headphones that are easy to wear all day if set to the right head size.
Easy to set-up and use. High quality sound, at a reasonable price.
I’m up until early morning and have bought the Philips wireless headphones to listen to TV and music while my wife sleeps. Very good sound reproduction, has transformed my listening from being barely able to hear the words or music (so as not to disturb my wife’s sleep) to having full audio via bluetooth (so no cables). Not too convinced about the active noise cancelling, but it does make some difference on the few occasions when I have used it.
The headphones are a comfortable fit over the ear with cushioned pads that are easy to wear. Connecting via Bluetooth was easy and the volume controls easy to master with a swipe action on the right headphone. Noise cancellation is also operated from the right headphone by a tap. This is easy to use, but also easy to accidentally tap. I found myself having to go through the options a couple of times due to an inadvertent tap on the headphone. There are only 3, and they all work well with noise cancellation as the default, and then noise cancellation off and finally an ‘ambient sound’ setting that lets you concentrate on what is being said to you by others in the room without removing the headphones. It helpfully tells you verbally what setting you have just switched to.
I use these with a Samsung Smart TV particularly for films and they are excellent for this.
I bought the Vention 2.5 to 3.5mm cable in 3 metre length to connect the headphone jack on the processor via a 6.3mm adaptor. The headphones take the 2.5mm jack and it works well.
With these headphones you can use them passively even when they are turned off, in fact once you engage the 2.5mm jack it turns the power off on the headphones. I paid 79 on this site for them and I think they would still be a bargain at twice that. Here is what I think of their performance;
Bass is full but well timed and controlled
Mids are energetic with nice separation and again well timed.
Vocals are great with a good placement in the overall image.
Highs are sparkly enough without being to bright, they are a touch rolled off but I think the balance is just fine.
They say that the noise cancelling is not up to more expensive BT Headphones
Oh and the ambient noise swithching on the volume pad is easy to activate in error
Battery life is good and they are nice and comfortable and have a nice premium feel about them.
I can imagine you could get warm ears on a warm day with them.
If I had paid 200 for these I would still be happy because of the quality of the sound
Listening to Tidal Hi Fi with the cable provided (I think that it is less than a metre) is very good for sound quality.
I don’t think there is anything to touch these for performance under 200
Noise cancellation and sound quality both excellent, no problems to date with battery life. First pair returned due to opened seam in padding but replacement fine.
Got these at nearly half price after reading review after review that spoke positively about them. Sound quality is excellent with expansive bass reproduction and high end fidelity is maintained. Bluetooth pairs quickly and headphones are easy to connect to any device quickly. If you’re buying these headphones for their noise cancellation feature, I’d be inclined to look elsewhere as the difference between ANC off and on is minimal.
Battery life is great and when you run out of juice a hard wired connector is supplied (just a shame Philips doesn’t use a standard 3.5m jack on each end of the cable).
Over ear comfort is great with memory foam to cushion your ears – only criticism is that I find the handband rather tight making the cans a little uncomfortable after a couple of hours use. Nothing to complain too much about though.
A good pair of over-ear headphones at a reasonable price. Watching TV is now a pleasure, and, with the TV sound off, there’s no noise to disturb others in the same room. Well worth getting, especially if you’re having trouble hearing the TV at ‘normal’ levels
They feel very light despite looking quite heavy. The padding on the earpieces is hyper soft and don’t crush my big ears. The materials feel solid yet malleable so I’m not worried they’re going to break. It comes with a case which is a great fit and easy to carry around.
The sound quality is incredible compared to what I’m used to. Really deep and rich bass tones but it doesn’t drown out the treble, so guitar solos still sound great. They can get very loud but low volumes are good too due to great clarity, which makes the ambient setting a viable option. The ANC emits a very quiet hiss which is noticeable when you’re not playing anything but otherwise is completely negligible. The setting does cancel out a lot of noise but not as much as it says, which is like 90% or something on that range.
The ambient mode is really cool, it’ll turn down the audio and actually filter in outside noise via the microphone. (At least, this is what it sounds like to me. Because turning ANC off is not as effective as Ambient mode) so realistically I don’t need to take these headphones off for much at all, once they’re on that’s it.
The touch sense on the ear pads are very receptive, this does mean I accidentally select options when adjusting the headset but it’s too useful to be a negative. I can change tracks, volume and activate my assistant easily, I barely have to grab my phone! Changing volumes can be long since each swipe is the equivalent of one button press so you’re going to be swiping like a madman when you’re in and out of conversation but want an immersive listening experience.
The Microphone has astounded me. I had no intention of using it for phone calls, but after testing it on a windy cold night, I was heard crystal clear, probably more than if I was using a phone and I was talking quite quietly. I’m now a big fan of talking through the headset.
The battery life is more than enough. Anyone with a full time job and cannot use these at work will get a week out of one full charge I think. I use them on my way to and from work and whenever I’m out and it’s barely drained at all.
Some Negatives: The touchpads pick up fingerprints very easily, they seem to come off now but I imagine this won’t last. The lead to charge the headphones is incredibly short, like 4 inches short, and I’m not sure if they’re charging because there is no light or notification as far as I’m aware. The ear pads also pick up grease really easily so you’ll be cleaning them a lot. Also, like I said before the Noise cancellation is not as powerful as advertised and the hissing is present but it definitely does the job and I am very happy with it still.
I have yet to see how they withstand the heat and rainfall because that is a big worry for me and it states in the instructions to keep dry and out of direct sunlight.
These are incredibly minor however and I wouldn’t even factor them into a purchase. I’m going to use these until they crumble into dust and I will love every second. Obviously, I recommend.
1. I tried various high-end headphone, but as my ear is so sensitive, I felt eardrum suck. It is very uncomfortable feeling, and a bit painful, when you feel that the headphone bring strong air pressure to your ear. I think it is not happened for all people, just those who have very sensitive ears. Amazing, that I don’t feel that trouble in this Philips, perhaps because the noise cancelling is not really at strong level.
2. sounds: it feels good, I’m not complaining to now about the sound quality.
3. no apps that could be use for adjusting the EQ. For those who in favour of apps, then this headphone is just not for you.
4. there is a bit cracking sound when you move or adjust the headphone. So, I think this headphone not for rough time 🙂
5. it is only connect to one device at a time
6. it connects well with the 3.5 mm jack. The headphone provide cable from 2,5 to 3.5 mm.
7. the noice cancelling is definitely not the best, but it sufficient to protect you from morning busy road.
Overall, thats my points to date; will update it again if there is anything new. Hope this review helps.
Pros:
+Decent quality of sound,
+good bass
+Not bad active noise cancellation
+quality and nice style
+good carrying case
Cons:
-laughable length of USB charging cable (10cm)
-doesn’t use USB type C for charging
-ANC doesn’t work well when connected with audio jack
-only 1 year warranty
Incredible headphones for the money. I have the Sony equivalent set which cost more and the Philips are superior in every way.
Does not do bass very well at max volume, the tapping on the side to change settings can be a tiny bit annoying, battery life is amazing, phone calls are good quality but in wind the other person hears it but can still hear your voice, overall a very good product, just a few things that could be done differently but that’s personal preference
Pros:
– Noise cancelation performs well (it blocks most deep sounds; like when you’re walking and you can hear footsteps, or in the car and you can hear the engine)
– Sound quality is great for the price range
Cons:
– Bass isn’t very strong
– Touch controls are sensitive; you have to cycle between 3 modes (noise cancelling, non-noise cancelling, and ambient sound. If you touch the control you have to do so another 2 times to reset it)
– Hinges seem week. I’ve not had any trouble with this, because I’ve been careful, but I could see them breaking if they fell.
Summar:
If you’re looking for a budget pair of noise-cancelling headphones, buy these. You won’t regret it.
I use it for my work during lockdown. After 8 hours one ear start hurts, i even tried to put other way round.
Another downside: you cannot mute mic from headphones.
Only one Bluetooth connection at a time
Super soddisfatto!!!!
Love the swipe function volume control.
Comfortable fit and great value.
Comes in a lovely case too!
+ Akkulaufzeit

Eindruck!
I like these. Nice, slightly unusual design. Cute little carrying case. Super comfortable. The noise cancelling is great and surprisingly the microphone (which is apparently built in – so cleverly that I didn’t think it had one) is awesome and works well on calls too.
The Bluetooth connection is strong and solid. And it works with Siri just by holding your palm against the right ear cup. I found the sound to be well-balanced across a wide range of music. Even listening to audiobooks (which can be a problem in my experience without an EQ to boost speech frequencies) was a pleasure.
I love the way the ear cups swivel so if you need to remove them temporarily you can lay them flat against your chest. My only issue is that the controls are a bit counter-intuitive and fiddly but I expect I will get used to them – although at the moment I tend to use Siri to control them!
If the controls were easier to use and if it has USB-C charging I would have given them 5 stars – but at this price (currently 159.98), I feel that they are a 4* product.
There’s a huge range of brands Bluetooth over ear headphones, and buying without trying can be risky. Some of the celebrity-branded headphones look the part, but are cheap and flimsy inside, with dubious sound quality. Philips’ Series 8000 are good-looking and sophisticated in their functionality with high resolution sound quality. The noise and echo cancellation is superb, they stay charged for a long time, charge quickly. In terms of price, they represent great value for money being up there on overall quality with the top of the range over ear headphones. Recommended.
Lo he comprobado.
The user controls are all about getting use to. Once you do they work extremely well.
The sound quality is really good. These are better than many more expensive cans.
After reading the limited reviews out there I was prepared to accept that these were good sounding headphones but not quite as good as the Bose or Sony, but that didn’t mater because the price was better.
Do I agree? Yes and No.
Yes- they are not as good as noise cancelling as the top end, a small amount of noise can be heard (depending on frequency’s), I’m an electronic engineer that has quite a bit of equipment near me that makes fan noise (essentially near white noise) and for the most I cant hear it, however on occasion I get some break through.
No – they are as good as the Bose and Sony. The sound reproduction is just so well balanced. There is no over exciting areas in the range – especially the base, it just delivers and does not miss a beat. The mid range is a little flattish but you have to remember these are not top end 500 plus headphones, for the price they are just simply remarkable, fantastic job from Phillips engineers.
I agree that the touch control is fiddly, but it does not put me off. It would be nice if one of the buttons could be re-utilized to lock touch control or a dedicated button.
If you have your headphones connected to your phone, I’m happy to report that you can use Alexa for voice assistant as well as Google as newer android versions allow you to choose your voice assistant. Headphones also work with Cortana on windows.
The microphone is great to pick up your voice even when speaking very quietly, you just have to be careful you don’t come across as shouter
If that extra few decibels of noise cancel quality is required, then spend another 100 on something else, however if you require fantastic sounding headphones with decent noise canceling and a fantastic price go no furthe
Here are my thoughts:
Packaging:
The packaging is good, with some premium feel to it, you also get a hard/medium shell carry case which looks really nice with the dotted indentation all over it, I think the case looks better than all the headphone cases I currently own including Sony1000xm3.
Accessories:
In the box, you get a 3.5mm to 2.5mm cable [WHY? Phillips WHY?], I can understand the smaller size but 2.5mm aux cable is not as common as the 3.5mm although you can easily buy it, I’m pretty sure you have more spare 3.5mm cables hanging around your house than the 2.5mm cables.
you also get a micro USB cable for charging the headphone [USB C would have been great but at the price, it’s just about forgivable].
Headphone Build quality:
The headphone Offers the looks and feels of a really expensive headphone, the premium-O-meter is probably at 95% lol. The design first caught my attention because of the curves it looks so unique, nothing looks like it currently although you can tell the designers at Philips have spent some time studying the Sony 1000xM3, they still managed to make the Ph805 look unique in its own rights.
The colour says black but it has a 2 tone colour effect, so don’t freakout when you unbox yours.
The overhead arc has a greenish tint to the black colour, and then the ear cups have a nice rough-textured black colour.
The headphone also has padded ear cups (Probably Protein Leather) which feels comfortable to me. it also has nice padding on the top arc to avoid pain from long hrs uses. The clamping force is mild on my bald head and ears, I think it’s ok, however, I’m a bit of Major pain so my pain taking threshold is quite high.
The headphone folds up in a nice compact form to easily carry it around, the ear cups swivel round so if you wanted to lay it flat on a table. The headphones do provide a really good seal around the ear to block out environmental noise.
At max Volumes you can get some audio spill so anyone near you can hear your music, however, the seal of the ear cups are quite good so you will not need to turn up the volume too loud anyway.
Features and functionality:
This is where this headphone takes a major hit. First is the 2-way joystick for skipping tracks forward and back, it also has a clickable button at the centre position used as on/off button and multi-function button.
This button uses a spring mechanism and I’m not sure how long it will hold, however thinking about it I don’t often skip tracks so the slide button will not have much use, but the centre position button has a bit of fiddle to accurately press it down. (Lost half a star here).
I think they should have gone for standard buttons for the multifunction.
The second down hit is the ease of switching ON the ambient sound control. This can only be accessed by jumping 2 sequential Modes by tapping the touch panel once to switch over e.g Tap once>> ANC ON, tap again > ANC OFF, tap again> Ambient sound ON, tap again and the cycle starts over.
I think it’s OK to have this touch function to switch ANC ON and OFF but also adding the ambient sound mode to the menu means you have to cycle through 2 modes to get there, this defeats the whole purpose of quick audio pass through, so to hear your surroundings quickly you will have to just take off the headphones.
They could have also given it a gesture control just like the Sony by Placing a palm on the ear cup to temporarily trigger the ambient sound. (Lost another half star here)
ANC works as it should, it blocks out low-frequency noise when switched ON although its performance cannot compete with the Sony 1000xm3. I also noticed that turning the ANC ON gives the Music a boost, volume increases bass hits a bit deeper, I could really call the ANC button an Xtra bass button. well, this really doesn’t matter that much to me.
The touch panel is only on the right ear, it also works as it should responsive and good. Placing your palm over the ear-cup will trigger your smartphone assistant like Siri or google assistant.
Swiping up and down controls the volume, and that’s just about it.
Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity is awesome, pretty standard now, signal bonding is good, no signal breaks from having your phone in your pocket or in a bag.
it pairs only to one device at a time, I kinda wished it paired to 2 devices at once, however, the provision of a 3.5mm cable connection is always welcomed so you can quickly switch between several devices with cable connection.
it automatically remembers last connected device and pair up once you power ON.
The audio sync was locked on, so the lip sync in movies and YouTube was great with no noticeable Lag.
Hi-Res Audio:
Don’t be fooled by the Hi-res sticker on the box, it doesn’t support it over Bluetooth connection just like Sony1000xm3 does, however, Philips claims it can playback hi-res quality files over a wired connection, so keep that in mind if you are looking for Hi-res playback over Bluetooth.
Sound Quality:
The headphone performs quite good. The bass is boosted slightly it hits really well and the mid-range is very clear so vocals really stand out and heard clearly.
the high frequency is ok but it lacks a bit of crispiness, again the headphones are tuned to be more balanced and in favour of the lows and some mids.
At high volumes and on bass-heavy songs I could hear the drivers losing control a bit, not in a bad way but certainly entering the fatiguing threshold.
There are 2 ways to get rid of the distortion if you want to jam at the max volume. 1, make sure you have a good seal around your ears so that the sound doesn’t leak out, otherwise, the ANC will begin to mess with the song, 2. Turn down the volume about 2 clicks or simply switch off the ANC.
I think about 2 clicks down from the max volume and the headphone regains clear composure.
It goes quite loud in fact loud enough for me.
If you like the Sony 1000XM3 stock sound quality then you will be happy with this headphone.
Conclusion:
Now, of course, the Sony is an all-around much better headphone to have both in features and functionality and in the ANC department is another level up, but If you are just looking for a headphone that also high level of premium build quality, sound quality, with decent ANC, long battery life for playing music and watching Netflix, and don’t want to spend twice the money then these are great alternative especially for the price point. so far so good, I love it and If you can look past the few control quirks then I can highly recommend this.
Hope this helps!
Infine i controlli.
L’esperienza sonora sicuramente “particolare”.
