Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMy old router was a Black & Decker my wife bought for me in the 80’s. This was great but had now come to the end of its life. This one is much larger and comes with a good selection of accessories. Much quieter than my old one which required earplugs when in use, plus the variable speed on this gives you the versatility you need when using different diameter cutters on different materials. Comes with a 12.7mm slot cutter in the box and 3 year warranty if you register it with Bosch. Comes with 3 different collets so you can use with any variety of genuine or third party cutters.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersHave a Stanley hand router from 1978. Then bought a Black & Decker electric router in 1979. Years later bought a better one (but no brand name). The router I would really like is a DeWalt battery operated trimmer/router to go with the rest of cordless tools from DeWalt, but the little that I put a router to use would not justify the expense. Still, this Bosch is the best router I have so far.

Essentially I bought this Bosch 1400 because the 1200 doesn’t come with a case. Both are aimed at the amateur user. You may think “it’s only a box” but the box allows the tool to be stowed under the stairs cupboard and be easy to identify…. makes life more convenient when you don’t have a permanent workshop. If I had bought the 1200, hunt for a case, buy some cut-out foam … apart from expending that time, it would have cost more than the price difference;. At the time of purchase I think the 1400 was perhaps 30 more expensive, but factor in the extra features of the 1400, time to hunt for a box, but and cut out the foam, the 1400 works out cheaper

The quarter inch fitting is suited to my existing router bits. You can see the features on web site video; some of them I particularly like is the light, vacuum hose attachment hole to help make the work piece clear for router cutting. The depth adjustment / depth stop will not compete with professional tools but very good for an amateur tool. From studying information from manufacturer’s web sites, it is easy to adjust the DeWalt and the Makita to 0.1mm, but hey, this Bosch I reckon is good to 0.5mm which will be good enough for me.

Held it in my hands, played with it, and it felt very well balanced. Powered it up and found perhaps less noisy, well, less high pitch. As yet no project to apply the tool onto yet so giving it 4 stars until a project comes along. Yes, I would recommend putting this, or a similar priced Trend on the short list if you are just starting out in handy work.

If you are an amateur instead of a professional, you may wonder if you will need a router. … When I was doing projects for O Level Design & Tech submission (that was 1976), everything had to be done by hand because that’s all the school had. Sanding was so tedious. An electric sander was my second power tool (first of course was a drill). Think the B & D router was my 3rd and knew then that I could never achieve a finish with just hand tools. It’s one of those items that once you have it, you will be able to think of more ways to use it. One of the projects had sliding doors. I did not want to stick plastic rails to my wooden project for I didn’t want “naff” so used the router to create gooves in the wood itself.

I wanted to have the capability to mount the router on a router table. Unfortunately Bosch hadn’t thought to make this option available by providing holes in the base or on the casing to enable this. So I had to drill holes in its aluminium base to mount it.

My first plunge router, so took a little while to get the hang of, but overall a fantastic purchase for various woodworking projects! My main complaint is the lack of an LED on the 1200 AE version to light up the workpiece, which I’m aware is a feature on the 1400 AE version. Would absolutely recommend, but make sure you buy a good set of router bits as it only comes with a couple included.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersFirst glance I thought the unit was quite large compared to my old 1200w router, but weighed the same. It’s quite stiff against the plunging spring but it is new so needs a bit of exercise.
Love the built in collet and nut arrangement which makes removing the bit so much easier.
Soft start and quiet too in operation compared to my old one.
Not keen on the plunge lock as it needs to be pressed all the time to do free hand plunging rather than fixed level.
Overall though it’s worth the money and a good sturdy unit, delivery and packaging spot on.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersMy first router. Did the job perfectly that I needed it for. Its fairly big, but sturdy. My advice is take your time and go slowly. Take time to pause and blow saw dust away for a better view. BE WARNED… buried in the instructions is a warning not to tighten either of the two bit lugs supplied without a bit in it…. I did (only slightly) by accident and it was a mission to loosen the lug… However, I managed it but only through determination and invention. But this was all my fault… Its a great router.

Bought for my son who works for the family business of house renovation. Most recently used during the fitting of kitchen worktops. Seems easy to use and not too heavy. Easy to follow instructions with illustrations of usage.

It is a good router. It was purchased to cut grooves for 10mm underfloor heating plastic pipes. It did the job.

I guess this does the job it’s supposed to but it is very heavy so it’s difficult to use for delicate jobs. I also recommend making it buying a router sled so that it takes a bit of the strain out of the use.

Took forever to work out how to use the thing, but after a number of google and youtube searches finally worked it out. Did exactly what we needed it to do, but Bosch sort out the instruction manual, its rubbish!

Main dislike, is that when it arrived, it had a bit that was too small for the installed collar. Then the collar got stuck, probably due to tightening the collar with a too small bit. Had to YouTube a solution to get collar out.
The guide attachment has a gap in the centre which caused the router to change direction when cutting slots in narrow beams of timber.
Otherwise it is fine, solidly built and powerful.

Great for shaping wood. Came with three collars for different size bits so despite other reviewers having issue with sizes I had no issue and could use all my old router bits by simply changing the collar to suit. Quite light compared to my last router and found it very easy to manage. Nice bit of kit to have.

My first router, also bought a set of assorted bits to go with it. Has made cutting joints a lot easier and I even managed to use it to turn the round ends of two rollers with the help of a jig from some scrap wood. A useful addition to my hobby woodworking tool kit.

After reading other reviews I was a bit nervous that this product wouldn’t be powerful enough to machine the very hard old oak strips that I am using.
I did not need to worry – it was superb and easy to use for basic DIY handyman woodworking. I like Bosch tools they are usually thoroughly engineered and easy to use, this one is no exception.

Bought this during the recent Amazon Prime Day promotion and I haven’t been disappointed.
It’s a substantial piece of kit that is marked as being for professionals on the box (yeah – it comes in it’s own rigid carry case), I wouldn’t call myself a professional but I needed one and this was a bargain.
I love the easy set up, how well made the router and all the accessories are (the guide arm is really sturdy) and then little findings like:

    – it builds up the speed (which is variable and set by you before you switch it on) when you press the trigger to start.

    – there’s an LED light that comes on to illuminate the drill area – it’s super bright and gives you a clear view of what you’re doing

    – all the things you need for different sized bits are in the box

The only complaint I had was that it only came with one bit. I bought a set of 12 Draper quarter inch bits from Amazon (also a bargain) and they fit and work perfectly.

Great plunge router that gives good results.
Not so easy to mount under a table unless your willing to create a DIY fix.
There are various methods in use but I think mounted onto a perspex plate is the easiest.

Cannot fault this, simple to use versatile and powerful. Depth gauge doesn’t do much so if you measure how much your bit sticks out of the bottom instead, problem solved.

A sturdy, well-made tool as you’d expect from Bosch. It’s really handy to have one if you are working with any sort of reconstituted board (plywood, chipboard, etc) and it’s brought a lot of pleasure to finishing jobs that I previously would have avoided.

I was a bit worried, as I never used a router before, but it’s very easy to use (after watching a few howto videos on YT).

I recommend using vacuum dust collector if you can afford one. The surface gets obscured instantly.
