The original Pro-Ject Debut was released in the late 1990’s during a time when CD was king, and the vinyl format was presumed to be all but gone. But nearly two decades (and a few incarnations) later the model still stands, and it deserves a key accreditation in the ongoing success of a rejuvenated vinyl and budget turntable market. The Debut symbolises all that is good about vinyl; it is beautiful to behold and fantastic to listen to, with the right mixture of user-friendliness and opportunity to tweak and upgrade.
Introduced at the beginning of 2012, the Debut Carbon expanded on the Debut III in a variety of ways, but most notably with its one-piece 8.6″ carbon fibre tonearm. Using a carbon fibre tonearm at this level is almost unheard of, and allows the newest Debut to outperform all of its competitiors. The stiff yet lightweight tonearm provides the perfect properties for the pre-installed Ortofon 2M Red cartridge to sing at its fullest potential.

This is tremendous value out of the box, and is a great platform to upgrade from. I’m now running mine with an AT vm740ml cartridge, acrylic platter. If your starting off in vinyl, this is where you should be.
Very pleased with sound quality. I had it picked out after researching online – it was subsequently verified as a great choice by a musician friend, who is also a professional DJ.

Moderately expensive, but worth it.
Easy to assemble (even for a non-techie!), except for the slightly puzzling anti-skating weight – YouTube clarified it.

Great sound, easy setup.
Make sure you have a solid level base, this deck can’t be leveled independently and any jolt or vibration will result in the arm jumping about.
A solid isolated base is needed for quality decks anyway, but keep this in mind when purchasing.
Very impressed with this turntable with the right amp sounds great.
The only dislike I have is the instructions are very helpful better visibility!!
The handle on the tone arm is very difficult to hold onto, a bit of a design flaw. Otherwise an excellent turntable.
It’s a great bit of kit for the price. Few things to twiddle with setting up. Still not sure it’s perfect.(but isn’t that what HiFi is about!)
Thing that eventually clinched it was the Ortofon 2M stylus.
Right , we have Analogue sound transferred to digital, surely that defeats the object of vynl. Pre amp to think about. Same process led me to the Fosi Audio MM valve pre amp. Finally through the Denon RCDM41dab to a pair of Wharfedale diamond 9.1.
Not having listened to vynl for over twenty years, dug out from the garage first to hand was Queen, Night at the Opera, quick clean and on it went. Took a step back and waited,
Big smile…. that’s nice, turned up a bit, bit more. Think I’ve made the right choice. Not that I’ve tried the others , adjust the counter weight bringing fully to life . Initial setup was painless even for me . Well made , decent platter ,heavy & well balanced with also a slip mat included, if this price range is this quality what on earth are the top end ranges like.
Carbon fibre arm is virtually weightless & looks fantastic, motor is silent as in no audible hum , time will tell on that one. Looks are stylish & look well with the others. Project did a really good job with this not only for price but build quality. More than pleased with my purchase, definitely recommend.
Attached to my 25 year old Sony stereo, this record player plays beautifully, with a rich and detailed sound. It looks luxurious and it feels luxurious. admittedly, the handle and anti-skipping counterweight are very fragile-looking, but that conforms with the way how you should treat vinyl and record players anyway. Not one to throw in the back of your car on the way to a party, but one to give a place of honour in your music room. Haha, not that I have a music room …

Htte nicht gedacht , das man so viel aus seinen Scheiben heraus holen kann , hatte vorher einen schon betagteren Technics SL QD 33 gar kein Vergleich zu dem Project ! Aufbau war auch sehr Einfach und gut beschrieben , bis jetzt alles Easy !

Passato da un Sony di fascia economica a questo Project. Qualit del suono migliore, pi piacevole, anche per la tipologia di connettori forniti nella scatola. Rapporto qualit prezzo molto buono (rispetto ai rivali). Linea per me molto bella. Consigliato per chi vuole un prodotto di gamma medio bassa ma gi di qualit.
I purchased this after some research. The reviews were all correct, this is an amazing turntable.
After a short amount of time spent researching suggested upgrades to the cartridge it became clear that the cost to hit the quality of sound I wanted would be relative to a switch to the Debut Carbon – which I did and … WOW!
From the second I put the first vinyl on the beautifully designed turntable I was rewarded with that indescribable warmth and rich sound you want. The step up to the OM Red is worth the extra 150 in itself – and, of course, the turntable feels that more sturdy and well-made by comparison to the Primary E (obvious I know but worth pointing out). As has been said the other reviews – the bass is rich and the midtones are so so SO clear. Totally worth the (bit) extra compared to the Primary E for what is, unquestionably, a far superior turntable.
The anti skate device is difficult to install due to the fineness of the thread used. There is a knot in the loop which attaches to the tone arm that doesn’t readily allow adjustment of the loop size. Other than that the turn table seem to be quality built and produces a good sound. I am running the turn table through a Pro-Ject Phono Box S2 pre-amp, a Pyle amp and Klipsch 620 speakers.
A very good turntable for beginners looking to get into record playing. The wires for the cartridge are very thin and fragile, be extra careful when dealing with cartridge replacement. Other than that, great turntable with many possibilities of upgrades (cartridge, platter, etc.)
I grew up with turntables and then when CD’s became available I moved away from records. Over the last 5 years I have begun collecting vinyl records again and was using a basic player which played significant static with the music. I bought this as a mid level turntable with wired speakers and cannot believe the difference in sound quality. The unit required some assembly and did have instructions.
The instructions were terrible – and I say this as an engineer who has read some awful instructions. I recommend watching the YouTube video for set up. They talk you through it and demonstrate which makes the overall setup quicker and easier to understand. If you are looking for a quality turntable with the qualities needed for great sound then this is the unit for you. I highly recommend it.
Giradischi dall’ottimo rapporto qualit-prezzo (ha pure il braccio in carbonio…), si presenta davvero bene, con un ottimo imballo ed esteticamente molto bello nella finitura piano black lucida (che incubo per la polvere, nonostante la cappa…). praticamente un plug-and-play: basta regolare la forza di lettura (volendo si fa tranquillamente senza bilancina) e via. Poi certo, non si pu pretendere di poter regolare il VTA o l’overhang, ma chi compra un giradischi del genere non cerca certo un prodotto che permette mille regolazioni.
Se si vuole fare un upgrade, meglio cambiare la puntina optando per la Ortofon 2M Blue al posto della Red, che notoriamente un po’ aspretta sui medio-alti. Niente di drammatico, e magari ovviabile con un pre-phono o un ampli un po’ “morbidi”, ma il passaggio alla Blue pu dare sicuramente una marcia in pi. Certo, costa 2/3 del prezzo del giradischi…
Love our new Pro-Ject turntable. It has recording studio sound, set-up was a breeze and the stylist can be easily swapped out if you want to upgrade it. We purchased the blue stylist for a even better enhanced sound. We use the red stylist for our LP’s that have been around for awhile. We highly recommend it, great value and sound for the money.
I upgraded to the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon. The sound quality is quite an improvement over my old turntable. I plan to eventually upgrade the cartridge and platter but I expect this turntable to keep me happily spinning my records for years to come.
The turntable came packaged terrifically and was easy to unpack. I followed the easy setup instructions and had The Beatles filling my music room in no time. The stylus it came with sounds awesome and I see no reason to upgrade it right now. Highly recommend!
Finally purchased an updated turntable .My previous Technics has lasted 38 years so I thought it was time to replace. TVA got the package here good and quick, so Ive had plenty of time to set it up ( much easier than expected) and get down to listening to vinyl. Van Morrison and Kate Bush sound great.

Solid! I own a Clearaudio Emotion, a Sota Saphire with vacuums and the little Pro Ject keeps up with them at a fourth of the price.
I can’t say how happy I am with my very first turntable. It is sleek and stunning to the eye, and lovely to the ear. I feel as if I have invested in a new life long passion. Easy to set up (even for a novice like myself) and looks and sounds perfect. I don’t use that word lightly! Highly recommend.
I upgraded to the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon , and I wish I had done it sooner! The sound is a world of difference, thanks to the included Ortofon 2M Red. It’s sending more signal to my pre-amp, and there is significantly more clarity overall, the highs are crisper, I hear more definition and separation of instruments that were generally more muddled on my previous turntable. There’s also less skipping, even on albums that had a few regular trouble spots, so the anti-skate weight is really doing its job.
The only downside is that to change between 33 and 45 rpm you have to remove the platter and manually change the belt. Not a big deal, but it’s not like pressing a button. Overall I highly recommend this turntable. It’s a bit pricey for a first turntable, but it’s absolutely worth it when you’re ready to upgrade. You’ll hear the difference right away.

Comes with an Ortofon 2m red but with an upgrade to an Ortofon 2m bronze it’s really in the audiophile class!
Secondo me su questa fascia di prezzo non c’ niente di paragonabile a ci che offre Pro-ject. Braccio in fibra di carbonio, testina Ortophon Red, suono bello secco veloce e dettagliato.
Da considerare che completamente manuale ovvero a fine disco la rotazione non si interrompe automaticamente. Nota positiva per l’imballaggio ben realizzato che tiene al sicuro l’oggetto durante il trasporto.
Lo stra-consiglio a tutti.
To my surprise my Pioneer Elite reciever lacked a phono input so I also purchased the phono box. The sound is good on my 30 year old records and incredible on a 180 gram new release of the Wall. I’m very happy with it.
You can read very detailed reviews elsewhere on this TT — in short, excellent TT that I would certainly purchase again.
Once it is set up it is very sleek and easy to use, be aware the arm is manual so once the last song plays you need to lift the arm and reset it yourself.
Based on a list of top 5 speakers to pair with the Debut Carbon I bought Kanto YU4 speakers and I couldn’t be happier, the sound is perfection! It was all a little pricey but I don’t regret the purchases, highly recommend this record player.

I’ve had this for a couple of months now and what a difference it makes. I upgraded from a sub-par turntable I got from a department store and this turntable along with a set of Audioengine speakers sounds amazing and crystal clear compared to what I had before. I cannot attest to $1000+ turntables but for the price, I suspect you won’t find many better than the Debut Carbon. Set-up was super easy and it has a clean, simple look that goes almost anywhere in the house. Don’t forget to buy an amp with it!

Replaced an older AKAI I had for your years that finally broke. There is a noticeable difference in sound quality between this and my older turntable. The specs on this are also better than higher priced turntables I compared it to, probably because this one is very very simple with absolutely no frills. Clearly all of the money went into what contributes to the sound: the tone arm, motor, cartridge, and turntable itself. Absolutely everything is manual, but in return, you get a better sound quality for the money. Note that the cartridge it comes with is excellent. Highly recommended for those just getting into vinyl , and for folks like me who have been into it for years.
I love this turntable!! I’ve been doing my research online to shop for my first turntable and this one is the one I chose! The packaging is very good that it protects the turntable very well. No damage when I received it. The piano black gives a very classic look. The sound quality is amazing–at least for the beginners.

This is a brilliant turntable the sound is clear and warm.
Cant understand the reviews about the set up, the cartridge comes pre installed so nothing to do there put the platter on slip the lid on plug the supplied leads in (they seem fine to me) fit the anti skid weight job done. The anti skid weight just slips over the hook it does look a bit of a after thought but I believe this is normal on these types of players. For goodness sake look at what you get for your money a carbon tone arm. As for it skips as one review says I’ve played loads of records on it and it plays perfect not one jump or slip even on ones that skipped on my old B&O system . Skipping records suggest they have not been cleaned properly maybe. No hum as some report in fact there is no unwanted noise and I’m using an old pioneer A110 amp and it sounds great.
This is my first turntable. For a beginner it had a fairly easy setup. I’m using it with my kanto yu6 speakers and it sounds great. Auto return would have been a nice feature to have, and switching rpm is a bit of a chore, but overall I’m definitely satisfied with the purchase

Lo uso ormai da 2 anni. Il giradischi e la puntina lavorano benissimo. Un po’ superiore di un entry level secondo me. Unica pecca che tutto manuale. Appena finisce di suonare un lato la puntina non risale da sola ed fastidioso

Got me listening to my old records again. Don’t want to get into a big debate over digital vs analog but there is certainly something very satisfying about listening to old vinyl. I highly recommend this turntable to those who want to dust of their old collection and get a very good turntable without spending a ton of money.
Excellent quality turn-table for the money!!! For a medium to lower high-end (Non-Esoteric) turntable this is a great deal out of the box. Easy to set up, taking my time and reading thoroughly through the instructions that come with the table, I completed the set up in less than an hour.
I held back on my review until I had a couple hundred hours on the turntable and I am not the least bit disappointed. I since have upgraded to the Acrylic platter, Ortofon 2M Black cartridge and better vibration insulation feet. I waited until I had over a couple hundred hours on the turntable before investing in these additions to make sure the table could bring out the quality in their performance, which it does. Also by taking time and searching for deals in each of the upgrades I was able to save significant $$$ and reuse the 2 M Red on a lesser quality, yet fine turntable I also have.

I wanted a nice turntable and went with this because of other reviews and the price point. I am using the project pre amp and Sonos speakers throughout the house. I plan to upgrade to the acrylic platter eventually.

After researching until my head hurt, I came to the conclusion that there are many great beginner turntables on the market. But at the end of the day, every single thing I read and watched came back to this turntable. For the money and the features you get, you can not beat this turntable. I believe that it gives the beginner many features that allows them to take a huge step into quality sound like the carbon fiber tone arm and high quality cartridge that still gives the beginner plenty of room to grow and upgrade to other higher quality components.
With the quality features and competitive pricing as well as simple setup, any beginner should look at this turntable a little closer.

Von einem endgltigen und all-umfassenden Fazit des Klangs mchte ich absehen, da hierfr ja auch die weiteren Bestandteile der Musikanlage jedes einzelnen Nutzers bercksichtigt werden mssten. Ich kann nur sagen dass es in meinem Setup ein tolles Klangerlebnis ist, welches absolut dem Preis entspricht.
Einen Stern ziehe ich ab, da wie bereits von anderen Kufern angedeutet, durch den aufliegenden Deckel ein leichter Vibrationston wahrzunehmen ist. (Verndert sich wenn der Deckel geffnet wird) Bei laufender Musik ist dies aber nicht zu hren.
