Roshield 2 x External Rat Snap Trap Control Protector Box – Rodent Safety Kit for Gardens, No Poison Solution – Green Professional Quality
Roshield Baiter & Trap Kits
Available in various kit sizes from 1 to 4 – Please see the above title for qty
Our trap kits have been designed specifically for the control of rats within external environments or areas sensitive to children or non-target animals.
Used by professionals as a suitable rodenticide alternative, users can quickly control active or emerging rat infestations.
Rats can be difficult to control, and a site survey must be undertaken before undertaking trapping to look for food sites and nesting areas. Food sources, in particular, should be identified and removed or controlled before undertaking any trapping control. Otherwise, users may see limited results. Once locations have been identified, the boxes should be placed as close to nesting sites as possible when practical close to buildings.
The internal trap can easily be set either manually or with the cable ties included within the package. The cable tie acts as a reliable indicator of the trap’s status without having to open the box.
A suitable bait is required for the trap (not included)
The Roshield Baiter and trap kit are simple to use, and instructions are included within the packaging. An additional video on how to set up the box is available.
Roshield Professional Traps – Whats the difference?
Welded kill bar
Our Roshield trap kill bar is welded and then covered in a red rubber coating, allowing for more force to be transferred from the kill bar to the rat’s body. In addition, this is a more durable method compared to non-welded yellow bars.
High strength spring
Its often for manufactures to save money by using fewer materials, often in and around the spring area. Therefore, our Roshield traps contain highly tensioned springs, with an additional fourth loop resulting in a kill bar that can undertake the necessary control action.
Sensitive trigger plate & catch
Often overlooked but again an essential part of the trap mechanism. Too hard and the trap will not fire, and too sensitive, the trap will fire before the rat is in the ultimate position. We believe that our Roshield trap has the ultimate balance, which results in a successful trigger resulting in fewer misfires and quicker control results.
Main trap features
- Welded kill bar
- High strength spring
- Sensitive trigger plate
- Large central baiting cup
Includes the Roshield tamper-resistant station box
This listing includes a tamper-resistant bait station that prevents children and non-target animals from accessing the internal trap.
Add trap into the box, activate, close lid, and place in the main activity area. Instructions are included within the kit.
Whilst the box will stop most animals from gaining access to the bait stations, it may not stop squirrels and other small animals. If baiting externally within areas of other animal activity, we recommend placing additional items over the top of the box to discourage non-rat activity, such as scrap timber.
Recycled materials
With just our flagship Roshield Baiter box in 2018, we saved over 32,800kg on CO2 emissions – calculated this equates to driving an articulated lorry twice around the planet.
We dispatch all our boxes within recycled cardboard boxes, which can also be recycled at the majority of curbside collections.
Manufactured in the UK
We understand the costs of the environment and have taken steps to minimise the transportation and material wastage in creating our boxes. All our black Roshield bait boxes are manufactured in the UK using recycled plastics sourced from car bumpers and dashboards. Waste plastic is reintroduced back into the manufacturing process.
As we make the boxes in the UK, we eliminate transportation costs by not importing from abroad, which results in a lower carbon footprint.
- Created using strong polypropylene
- Made in the United Kingdom
- All plastic construction

Poison got two rats and the traps one. There don’t seem to be any more about now so I’ll call that a success. These are easy to use, safe for children, pets and birds.
Good quality product, so good it must have frightened the rats away. I placed them where the rats ran and haven’t seen a rat since. So although it didn’t catch any, the rats have gone!
I am pleased and relieved. The traps worked it was nerve wracking setting it up though.
With this there are a nice choice of ways to dispatch your little friends
Trap contained in box giving no access to pets or birds. Bought to rid mice and rats. Rats have gone eaten by Ravens which I-Put on garage roof.
No rats now and a couple of mice were unfortunate
Just load with peanut butter the rats can’t resist it and the owls and ravens have a good meal
Been using these for a couple of weeks and started by inserting attractant without setting the traps. The attractant was being eaten so after a couple of days I started to set the traps and the results were mixed. One trap caught three rodents. One trap has never caught anything but the attractant has been eaten whilst the third has never been visited.
These arrived promptly and were as described, the actual trap is very efficient, so be very careful when setting. The opening of the trap is slightly difficult (I received one with a red slot-in key, rather than the black turn key), however works well when baited correctly. Advice – read the instructions carefully.
Caught 3 rats straight away. BUT I caught my thumb in the trap so you need to be very careful setting it up
Bought these as we’d seen an increase of rats in the garden. Used with the wax rat block (roblox I think) poison. In two days we’d caught 5 rats! Very happy with the purchase
For some reason, rats love our garden and they have been getting into the house and causing damage. This trap has claimed two victims in the last 24 hours. Last year, it got rid of 11 rats in two weeks!
The spring is very powerful and judging by the damage inflicted, must bring a very swift end to any rats that find it.
Smooth peanut butter seems to be very attractive to rats, as that’s what I’ve been using, with great success, in this trap, chocolate spread and cheese have been ignored!
Easy to use and the locking lid makes it safe for pets.
Love the ease of use, not to happy with having to dispose of the dead rats (but better dead than infecting the property. I have bought three or four in the traps and have seen another that is much to big to go in the box (thankfully it was over the road so not in my garden, hopefully it won’t be)
Yes I would advise this product (I have done already) and I may buy yet another to keep them out of the garden. Well worth the money.
It does work and I’ve now caught 3 mice. But it’s a bit hit and miss (as such). I initially put the bait (peanut butter) at the back of the box, but somehow they were managing to get past without setting the trap off. I realised you have to put the bait in the centre hole of the trap.
Also, I’ve hedgehogs in the garden – they’ve taken an interest, but not able to get in to the hole. The local cat tried to get at the expired mouse inside, which was interesting, but again, unable to do any damage. No sign of Mr Ratty, though.
Leaving a 4 star rating overall. Not caught the target rodent(s) yet but I know they’re not stupid and can be tricky to catch, particularly outside I think where food could be plentiful so they just won’t take the risk going into these devices. A competitors product hasn’t either although that one has caught many mice. However, it’s not possible to compare as the stations are in different locations.
The product is of decent quality. Some say rats just won’t go into bait boxes or touch poison bait blocks in them and that’s been my experience so far. I’ve tried both the traps in there and poison in there(no trap) and other than a few false snaps (catching noting) the traps have mostly not been triggered. I’ve tried bait blocks that hasn’t been touched either after a week It’s all trial and error, and I’m making sure don’t keep touching or switching from bait to traps or vice-versa too often.
I shall keep experimenting anyway, to try to find something that may work work with these stations or a technique that works.
We have, we believe 2 rats taken residence under our garden shed, which is now one less. We purchased 2 of these bait boxes which we Initially baited one with peanuts and the other with chocolate spread. We had no success until we re-baited one with “The Big Cheese mouse and rat attractant instant success. Have now baited the other one with same.. Regarding the bait boxes, they are very robust and easy to set up excellent quality. The ones we received had a modified locking mechanism simple and effective.
Suggest you handle product with gloves on from initially opening package and obviously at all times as rats are very sensitive to human odour.
Update:- further success. After re-baiting both traps with the attractant two more rats have been eliminated.
I got this two pack of traps to deal with recent rat sightings in the garden. These seem pretty good and larger than I realised with two entrances and easy to use trap. Included was the enclosure, trap, metal rod (when using poison blocks not included) and cable tie. A key is also included to allow locking of device.
These seem pretty effective and have so far caught a few mice however my only criticism is that the cable tie snapped in one which I had to replace and one of the traps is hard to engage. Otherwise I would recommend these
The box has already killed one rat.
Excellent accompanying instructions.
This trap was easy to setup after reading the instructions for a few minutes, it tells you how to bait the trap, the best locations to install it and how to reset it after its activated.
No need to worry about kids or other animals accessing the trap after its been set as you get a special key for opening and locking the box so you can set and forget, the plastic material is also easy to keep clean, you can just wash away any debris build up from the trap functions.
I bought 6 traps at the end of May 2022. It’s now early November. Two traps are in the Loft and the rest are along the fence line in the garden. I haven’t waded through all of the other reviews, but thought I’d sum up my experience with the garden traps. We are right next to allotments so there are numerous compost bins out there for rats to breed in. The rats come into our garden but are rarely seen. You just catch a glimpse of one on the odd occasion so its a case of ‘out of site, out of mind’. However, in May a large rat was basking in the sunshine on the lawn in the garden. My visiting daughter spotted it. It just sat there and looked back at us without a care in the world! So I decided to try and do something about it, hence the traps. The traps have a cable tie that you can use to set the trap from outside the box. Having set each trap, I put a blob of yellow paint on each cable tie just on the area outside of the box. That way, if the trap goes off, the cable tie gets partially pulled inside the box. So, very simply, if you can’t see the yellow paint, it means the trap has gone off. It’s a quick visual check and is much easier than having to pick each trap up and open it up or peer inside through the entrance holes. Up until a week ago I’d only killed one rat. But that was down to me not being logical about what was going on. I assumed that if a trap hadn’t gone off, the attractant bait would still be sitting there to lure any passing rats in. WRONG assumption. Due to the recent wet weather, my yellow marker paint had washed off of the cable ties so I set about re-applying it. At the same time I opened up each box. There was no bait to be seen, anywhere. What was inside each box was a collection of slugs, snails and spiders so my assumption is that they are the culprits eating the bait – they are light enough not to trigger the trap. I cleaned the boxes out and re-baited. I obviously put some in the receptacle in the middle of the trap But also some inside the box close to the entrance holes. That way a rat is encouraged to go in the box and progress to the centre and trigger the trap. Within a day I killed another rat and then four days later another 3 bit the dust. I cleaned the traps out yesterday, re-baited them and overnight I’ve killed another 2 outright and a 3rd being caught by its tail. Had to bite the bullet and bump that one off manually! So that’s 7 rats killed in under a week. From now on I’m going to check the traps every week to make sure the bait hasn’t disappeared. I’ll still check every day that the yellow paint hasn’t disappeared because if it has, I need to remove the dead rat as it sitting in there for too long would warn other rats that the boxes aren’t a good place to visit! Also, I’ve found that a rat that’s only been dead in the trap for a maximum of 24 hours is already being eaten by something else? Other rats maybe?
Bought 2, first night smothered the plate in peanut butter and traps activated without catching anything, next night put it in the small cup only and nothing on the plate – the result was 2 catches 1 small and 1 medium size – both their heads had exploded and bits of rat face and brain everywhere. Wife refuses to listen so think I’ll struggle with this PTSD on my own. What a machine!
EDIT – got 2 more today, heads in tact. Better swap over from last time.

The product itself is well made, it’s easy to use, and seems like it something did set it off it would kill it relatively humanely (quick). However, I’ve had two set up for several weeks trailing peanut butter, bird fat balls, and strawberries and not once has anything gone inside taken the bait and triggered the trap. Probably user error rather than the product. Frustrating none the less.
These traps are really well made, easy to set up and use and are lockable too. I set up 2 and baited them with peanut butter and caught 2 rat’s the same day.
Big rat dead . U have to have a nack with the key. Mind your fingers in and out . Trust me ur know if u catch one!!
After having tried poison and noticing that the rats weren’t going for it I thought I’d try something that used regular food, namely peanut butter. Works like a charm. Rats appear to have been killed instantly with broken necks.
So after looking at a number of solutions I decided to have a go at this one. When I first used it to try and get rid of the rats that had been turning up in the garden due to the chickens I did not seem to catch any. However after trying different methods and places I ended up using the same feed I used for the chickens (Corn) in the trap and before I knew it I had caught 4 (but did move the trap round to places I knew they were using and used gloves when handling the trap). The trap is easy to use and solid enough and once set up i used a zip tie to pull the trap open to re-load and marked it with white paint so I could see when the trap had fired. You just need to place this in the right place with the right food and be patient. It worked for me
These traps was brilliant add chocolate spread as bait at first didn’t catch anything for two weeks changed the bait to peanut butter and Bingo the rat was jumping on them not seeing a rat since and the traps are still baited and very easy to use
Used for a rat issue in the garden, caught the rat fairly quickly so hopefully that problem has now been dealt with
Easy to use and safe as the trap is locked away
So far I have caught 2 mice,1 was dead, the second was sadly still alive. I appreciate these traps are set up to trigger for rats which are bigger but I would have thought they would still kill a mouse. Poor little thing.
This thing is the daddy of rat killers. if you have a rat you want dead this is the product for you. We have chickens so this has brought rats to our garden and each day we’re seen one hanging around we’ve put the box out and the next day there’a a dead rat in there. It kills them quickly which is more humane than traditional rat poisons which we cant use due to said chickens and a dog. Would recommend 10/10
Easy to use, clean, arm. They are located outside in the garden and they certainly work and our dogs are not bothered by them. So much cheaper than getting anyone in. Peanut butter worked for us but we found the mice could clean it out without setting off the trap eventually they reached the required weight Or stamped their foot in disgust at no bait and bang.
This product only arrived 4 hours ago! I set up both traps and put a scoop of caramel coconut spread with some pizza crust crumbs on top in the traps, then left one by my fence and one next to the shed, where we had been seeing two little rats exiting for a couple of days.
Couldn’t resist going out to check after a couple of hours and there was a rat in both traps!! Both had been cleanly killed from the trap shutting on their necks, there was no blood and it did not look like they had suffered.
And yes I know there are clearly not just two rats and there is definitely a bigger problem, but I’m now reassured that with these new traps we will be able keep on top of it.
Very happy with the traps. It took 2 to 3 weeks for the rats to start entering. Mice were quicker. Getting better results by using some attractant from the same makers. In the month we’ve had them, the tally is traps: 2 mice and 3 rats. Cats: 1 mouse.
Absolutely brilliant rat catcher! I very rarely write reviews on Amazon products but I feel I need to on this! I have caught 5 rats in 2 weeks with this product which I feel is fantastic! It would be 5 star but the lock system lets it down slightly but is very secure!
These work really well for smaller rats. Sadly some of our visitors are too fat to squeeze through the holes!
had a rat problem but no more after ordering two of these rat traps.
Don’t bother with the rat attractant paste, parrot seed sprinkled inside works so much better.
My traps have got four rats in two days.
No rats now.
Be careful when setting the trap as expected this thing will much your fingers if you try to set it wrong.
We had a problem with a couple of rats so put these on the roof of our extension. Took a few days and a different attractant but got there in the end! The peanut butter didn’t work but the Attractant in the packet worked. The second one did not get caught but we think took other bait as it’s not been seen for a while?
