BAITER TRAP KITS

Roshield Baiter & Trap Kits

Available in various kit sizes from 1 to 4 – Please see the above title for qty

Our trap kits have been designed specifically for the control of rats within external environments or areas sensitive to children or non-target animals.

Used by professionals as a suitable rodenticide alternative, users can quickly control active or emerging rat infestations.

Rats can be difficult to control, and a site survey must be undertaken before undertaking trapping to look for food sites and nesting areas. Food sources, in particular, should be identified and removed or controlled before undertaking any trapping control. Otherwise, users may see limited results. Once locations have been identified, the boxes should be placed as close to nesting sites as possible when practical close to buildings.

The internal trap can easily be set either manually or with the cable ties included within the package. The cable tie acts as a reliable indicator of the trap’s status without having to open the box.

A suitable bait is required for the trap (not included)

The Roshield Baiter and trap kit are simple to use, and instructions are included within the packaging. An additional video on how to set up the box is available.

The boxes are large enough that the trap is kept well away from the dog’s noses and paws. The lock is just a simple bit of plastic however it works – the trap itself is strong and certainly stikes a swift kill.

    Great product.

Came well packaged with keys for both boxes.

Sturdy design which is important to prevent pets or children getting harmed.

    Strong spring and good footplate.

First night placed one bait box on one trap and used spring loaded plate in other.

The added metal bars on top prevent escape.

Both traps used and two rats down.

Easy to remove carcass and start again.

    Rat be gone!!!

ot used my new traps yet but have ones previously purchased and they are very effective and you do not have to use poison , I use crunchy peanut butter to bait the traps but you need to check daily as the rats can become aware and avoid the traps .

Look well made, bait or attractent not included but peanut butter or chocolate spread will do apparently.
Can be used duel purpose for poison or as a snap trap.

Since the passing of our cat recently noticed appearance of rodents in our surburban garden. 2 box traps purchased and set up with peanut butter. On third day adult mouse caught and within the week a further 2 rats caught (as shown in photo). Have found that despite traps set overnight the bait will be taken and trap released but no victim. Suspect this is lightweight mouse. However will persevere as these boxes certainly do their job.

    Marvellous

A very good solution, powerful traps and good to have them in boxes to stop pets/children/birds investigating.
First two days, 8 rats caught and dispatched cleanly. I prefer traps to putting down poison, which generally is not powerful enough unless commercial grade and one might say is also less humane.

I simply put a very small amount of bird seed (which they had been feeding from the bird feeder) around the trap inside the box

    Seriously powerful trap.
Easy to set and effective within an hour of it being delivered I had a rat killed in the box! Can’t really ask for better. Used chunky peanut butter.

Took about a week to catch this rat, who had dug a hole through my artificial grass into next door’s garden. Used chocolate as bait. My dog ignored the traps , even with the rat inside (so much for having a terrier!) Worth the money as it’s covered and safe from animals and children.

    Fabulous job.

Bought these as we had a problem with quite a few rats since reseeding the front lawn. Good quality traps, mechanisms work well and consistently. Humanely dispatched 3No. rats within the week. Easy to dispose of the rats once killed by slightly opening the trap. Dependant on the rats / other food available, it may take some time for the rats to enter the traps.

Overall very pleased with the purchase.

Not the easiest to unlock. Very easy to set up. Didn’t catch a thing for 5 days. Then listened to advice. It definitely works. 3 in one day. Its all about where you position it. Tight up against a wall where they run along. Mice and rats run along tight spaces in the corners never in the middle
I have 3 cats and a dog so its very safe will highly recommend

    They really do work !!

Easy to use, lock and clean.

The bait boxes are very sturdy and should last quite a while. The trap is very solid and easy to set. I used a piece of chocolate as bait and really pushed it into the bait bowl so that the pesky varmits would have to work hard to get it out. Within 3 hours of installing one box I had a kill. A little while later had the second one. It is very easy to remove the dead rat from the trap and you have no need to touch the body. Really very impressed with this purchase.

I brought these and tried the intended method of the snap trap first, this did nothing and had no result. I then brought the official poison blocks from Roshield and put those into the lock boxes (nice feature that both can be done in the one lockbox!) but still nothing! The pest is still at large under my decking shame.
I am giving 4* because the product is still well made, and I can see that the functionality is there, it just didn’t happen for me sadly.

The lady next door recently spotted a large rat scurrying across her pristine lawn – in broad daylight! In all the years we’ve lived here we’ve never had a rodent issue – so this was a scary development. It may have just been a rogue rat that had surfaced from the sewer pipes they’re upgrading a quarter of a mile away, but we didn’t want to risk him staying and breeding in our backyards. Anyway, the lady’s husband put poison down in their garden, whilst I had a think about what we should do as friendly neighbours. As it happens, a friend of mine (from another area) had what appeared to be a single rat problem last year, and he had tried various unsuccessful methods of ridding it from his property. He eventually invested in a couple of these Roshield traps, and after three days, found a dead rat in one of them – thankfully, no more rodent activity followed – so problem solved! On his recommendation, and reading some sensible, positive reviews on Amazon, I decided to purchase a twin-pack of these Roshield boxes.

I have to say that I’m impressed with this product. The boxes are made from tough plastic, and each includes a powerful, heavy-duty spring-loaded rat trap, which is simple to set up, and which features a thick plastic base, making it easy to keep clean. I do like that each box can be converted to a poisonous bait box using the included steel bar (on which you thread the Roshield poisonous bait blocks). Using one in this way means the rat will take the poison, then go somewhere else and die. However, if you want to be certain of eradicating a rodent (and don’t want to find and handle a dead one on your lawn, or lying in your herbaceous border, then I think the ‘trap and instantly kill’ method works best). As regards bait, I decided, after checking out other users successes, to go for crunchy peanut butter. I also visited our local DIY store and purchase 4x concrete bricks (47p each) and have placed one on top, and one to the side of each box to keep them firmly in position.

Reassuringly, the sprung traps are designed in a way that you can easily open them again (without physically touching the rat) and so disposal is quick – be sure to still wear gloves though. Also, the lids of the boxes are thankfully tamper-proof, so cannot be opened without first inserting the included plastic keys. Its worth mentioning that Roshield themselves have produced some very good instructional videos, which are easy to access online, and are well worth your time watching. I haven’t caught next door’s rat yet, but it’s early days, and I’ll be sure to post an update if the situation changes. In the meantime, I’m very happy with my purchase, and feel confident that the build quality of this product is such that these boxes/traps should last me many years and, if nothing else, will be something worthwhile to have on stand-by should I or any of my family members need to use them in the future. Highly recommended.

No rat is going to survive this trap!

Great box & trap. Great quality snap trap, the inside of the box has grooves that hold the trap in place. The lock however is a bit fiddley, the key doesn’t always turn & unlock. I mistakenly thought this item came with attractant – it didnt. I used peanut butter anyway & got a kill on the first attempt. Great success. Word of warning, the trap is heavy duty & the slight weight of a mouse may not be enough to set off the trap. One of the traps, the bait had all gone but the trap had not shut. Definitely aimed at rats or big heavy mice.

    Awesome produc

These traps and the boxes are really good . Young rats were coming from our neighbours garden ( turns out they lived under their shed ) and we could see the entrance they had made to gain access under the edge of our decking . Well , we didn’t want them taking permanent residence as they got bigger under our decking so we lifted two of our deck boards and placed the baited traps along the joists and loose laid the boards back down . Next day two dead young rats ! Day after two more young ones dead and then the day after that one dead large rat ! So far no more but at least we know that if any dare to stray under our deck they have a high chance of not getting out ! I will say that we used peanuts wedged into the bait hole . Wedge the peanuts in because if any larger rats come in there’s a small possibility they could reach and pick up the bait without triggering the plate ! This way they have to work at getting the bait and triggering the trap in the process ! These traps are so easy to use and cleaning is simple too and I highly recommend them as they are more humane , they kill instantly and don’t need poison to bait them . .

Easy to use and set. Put 4 in garden the first evening they were delivered. Next morning four kills. Interestingly all 4 had dead mice in traps so it seems the traps are very sensitive as they are designed for rats. The bait box is really nice design and allows you to easily clip the trap in place which makes placing without triggering trap easy and also means mice or rats can’t push or move the trap to set it off. Only slight issue is removing dead mouse or rat from trap does seem to require a bit of touching. Well worth the money

I live in the country or just in it and have a large garden where we feed birds and hedgehogs. And inevitably the odd large rat…

Of course, the thing about rats is that they need to be kept under control ASAP otherwise they will be out of control very quickly. So, I bought these along with many others over the years.

This brand is the best. No doubt about it the quality of construction and general design is a winner. Not for the rat mind you…

Few things to note. Rats are damned clever animals and very wary of traps of any kind. Some will avoid this and any other trap regardless so you need a combination of traps and poison. I prefer these kill traps because it’s done and dusted and there is no body left to poison any other animal if eaten.

From my use I’d say using the right bait – peanut butter – and located in the correct place which is along a wall where rats tend to run these give the best results possible.

The actual traps inside are well made and easy to set with not too much risk of catching yourself if you take care. They locate positively in the container unit thus making a very solid trap indeed.

Couple of things to note. I have a lot of hedgehogs around and while a full grown one would not get inside, smaller or young ones could with the consequent results not being ideal. Thus I put these on slightly raised levels so rats but not hedgehogs will investigate as well as the usual places such as outbuildings and sheds. Cats might get inside but they wouldn’t go for the bait but for the dead rat or mouse in which case the trap is already activated. Small children need to be watched and I remove these when my grandchildren come over.

    Overall, a great rat trap.

A lot of negative comments on here about the key/locking mechanism on the box being flimsy. Come on people, the box and traps are mostly made from robust plastic so not much to rust away, easy to clean and work a treat for me. Just 1/4 turn with the key is all it needs to spread the plastic locking mechanism and the box opens. If the locking mechanism was metal then it would rust fairly quickly. These are outdoor traps after all. The traps themselves are excellent, very sturdy & powerful and have caught rats every night since I received them. So good I’ve ordered more.

Very pleased, very good quality rat trap, which is fitted in a box, with a secured lid. The lid requires the supplied plastic key to open. As the bait is in a box, it’s Weatherproof, which is another bonus for not washing the bait away. Nutella seems to work well. Smear a bit on the 2 openings in the box and the main trap inside. Once he walks in, it’s game over. Easy to clean.

This is an update to my original review. I received these boxes a few days ago. Very easy to set up. I baited with peanut butter mixed with bird seed. In 2 days The traps have caught 4 rats in 2 days. I am very impressed with the ease of use and the success. I would not hesitate to recommend these traps. I would advise to leave a little food on the entrance to the trap and put only a small amount of food in the trap feeding tray. A great purchase I am very happy.

I bought 2 of these as I love to feed the birds and the the rats are eating the bird grain and seed. I found one box very difficult to open so I am not sure how durable the lock will be. I have placed the boxes as per instructions and so far no success. The rats are still coming for breakfast. I will leave for a week and change the bait and maybe stop to feed the birds for a while to increase my chances but I think the rats are currently winning.
I will update in a few weeks but these boxes look like the real deal and they are very easy to use. Well worth trying.

Great product, with the help of a dollop of peanut butter. Literally had this set up for less than 5 hours and it caught the rat my cats think is “loving” to bring into the house for me (could think of nicer gifts). It was very easy to set up and obviously safe for pets. When you open it you need to turn the key half way and the key then acts as a handle to open it up. Would definitely recommend this trap.

Traps seems to work well, I’ve been using along side a rodenticide too which I put in the boxes on skewers.

This product is well made and safe to use in the garden with other animals and kids. Baited it with crunchy peanut butter and followed the instructions – wear gloves etc to keep the human scent off the traps. Caught two rats on day two. I toyed with using poison but would prefer the more humane quick kill of the trap rather than suffering a slow demise and possibly then being eaten by other animals. So far so good and happy as reusable.

I know rats are pesky pests and have a reputation of being able to avoid traps, so I wasn’t sure these were going to work. They worked perfectly and caught the whole family that had taken up residence under our shed (2 caught in week one, 1 in week 2, 1 in week 3). Phew! Job done. Easy to set and install. The key / lock on the box is all plastic and a bit awkward but the box did its job and the traps themselves were good quality and easy to set.

We have a clever rat who visits our garden. The first night, he managed to trigger the trap and eat the peanut butter. The second and third nights, he managed to eat the peanut butter AND the sprinkling of bird seed, WITHOUT triggering either trap. This is despite the fact that some of the bird seed had fallen through the holes in the plate. How he got all that out an licked the whole thing clean, I really haven’t a clue.
    But I will win.
I have logged a support call for some advice. It’s not about the rat trap and bait box, they are perfect, and very well made. It’s all about how clever Roland is. I just need to outsmart him.

These boxes are just what was needed. Arrived same day using Prime. Worked first time too using peanut butter, as suggested in the easy to follow instructions. Do make sure the pests have no other access to food, such as any seeds etc dropped from bird feeders.

After loading it up with peanuts, Nutella (50% sugar) and cheese; result. This was the order of the rats preferences.

Cleverly it picked up the peanuts with out putting pressure on the trigger then ate all the Nutella on the other size. Unfortunately the rush of dopamine was a problem as it backed out carelessly and was whacked but it did not kill her. After biting me it jumped out so I had to jump on it. Next time I will not use my fingers but metal tongs. Another member of the gang is feasting on the nuts and when it is quite relaxed I shall arm the big bar.

Second presumed kill. This one could remove the nuts and Nutella withour triggering the trap. When it triggered the trap it never got trapped. Then I cut open a bag of poisoned bait and poured it beside the trap. It was eaten and there has been no visits to the trap for many days so I assume it is now dead.

The movement on the plate is large enough to avoid triggering even when loading up the weight on the trigger till it was like a hair trigger so it is better not to allow the rat to develope its skils.

Nr 3 is now visiting but I found out what the problem is. Any contamination will desensitize the trap due to softening nuts and Nutella smears. WASH the trap in hot water regularily. Now it triggers just on adding a few nuts to the trigger. Now I know how the rat feeds with out getting trapped!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI ordered it Tue, and it was delivered noon Wed. I set it up in 5 minutes, with small cups of peanut butter and Nutella in the 2 inside compartment. Within one hour, the mouse is trapped.!. Then you just open the box, release the trap and the rat body dropped into a rubbish, not messy.
The box and trap are well made..
N.B. You may want to attach the cable tie to the trap as a indicator whether the trap has been triggered (false alarm). But usually it’s obvious as their will be a long mouse tail outside in case it works. 😉
Also you don’t need to pull the cable tie to setup the trap as somewhere suggest (it’s very difficult). Instead, just put the trap inside the bait box and press down the lever, and close the cover. That’s all.
Some people mentioned that the bait get eaten without the trap triggered. I suspect it may be because the bait was put in the small “bait hole” in the trap. But if the baits are put in the bait compartment, there is no way the mouse can skip the trap.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI followed the directions. Read them FIRST! That way I knew rats have a keen sense of smell, so I only handled the box after I wore gardening gloves that I prepared by rubbing fresh lawn clippings. I baited with peanut butter, and left the optional cable tie sticking out so that I would see if it was shorter to know the trap had been activated without opening the box. I left traces of peanut butter near the entries, and extended the tunnels with bricks either side and on top so that my curious Labrador could not possibly get a paw into the box. I dabbed traces of peanut butter from a teaspoon (no human smell) on the bricks by the entrance. Emptying the box was not messy. A dead rat with a broken neck that clearly died instantly and humanely was tipped into a bin bag by me pulling on the cable tie to loosen the grip of the trap, while holding the base with one hand. I washed the box out with the hose, even though I could see no mess, reset it with a bit of their caramel spray to make it smell even more attractive, and await results. I have not seen any more rats, but better safe than sorry!

    Tidy and effective

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWow wow wow!! After noticing rats in the garden the past week I needed something that was pet friendly to put in the garden to get rid of these pesky little a holes. These boxes were easy to set up, the lock I couldn’t quite work out but got the jist of it after watching a YouTube video, filled it with rabbit food as thats what they were coming down to feed on in my garden. I did a bit of investigating and worked out their hiding areas (rat droppings) and put the boxes flush against the wall in 2 separate areas. So I eagerly awaited for it to go snap when night feel, I had one walk right past it last night, feeling a little disheartened I thought tomorrow is a new day checked them lunchtime today and bang 1 down.. I wasn’t brave enough to open the trap and get it out so that’s a job for my husband when he gets home. Would I buy these again yes, value for money indeed. I may start to enjoy my garden again 🙂

Plus my house backs onto a ditch so I not foolish enough to know that rats are not going to be around. As long as I don’t see them it doesn’t bother me. However I started to see a particular brown visitor clambering along the branch of my apple tree and nicking the fat balls out of the bird feeder. I sent the dog off after it, but this one must be particularly brave or stupid as within 15 minutes of it being chased of did it return, I repeatedly let the dog scare it off but it kept returning again until all the fat balls were gone.
So I head over to Amazon to look for traps that would be safe for me to leave out without my inquisitive dog risking her nose getting snapped. I don’t like poison as the idea of another animal getting hold of it puts me off. I couldn’t go for humane, as much as I don’t like the idea of killing animals, I draw the line at rats. This one pops up, so into my basket it goes and it is delivered to me the following day.
It’s a sad life I must lead now due to COVID, because I did get a little bit excited to set this up to see if it would actually stop my little visitor (who had earned himself a name I would probably not be allowed to write in this review). Anyway, I read through the instructions and loaded the trap with a smidge of peanut butter, leaving some in both entrance holes as bait too, this was around 4pm.
The next morning, I got up and thought I’d check them, not actually expecting it to work this quick and I actually jumped a little when I slid the box out and saw a brown furry butt poking out. I swiftly dispatched him in a bag and straight into the bin and reset the trap just in case he’d told any of his friends.
Now I can hopefully feed the birds in peace again. The traps will remain in place for any other visitors that might like to try their luck.

I was looking around on Amazon for some enclosed rat traps that would be safe to use both outside and around pets when I came across this one from Roshield which was suitable for my needs so I placed the order.

The rat traps were delivered very quickly by Amazon and they took no time at all to set up, the setup itself is very easy to do and can be done in the space of a few minutes. I had them placed outside and kept checking daily for any activity, a few days later and I had managed to catch a few rats using them.

As for my final thoughts, I am very happy with the Roshield rat traps and they do the job very well, set up is easy for anyone to do and it’s also very secure, to open the enclosure you need a key that comes supplied with the unit so you don’t have to worry about pets opening it by mistake.

I have read all the points of view about the humane solutions and not killing any creature, vermin or otherwise. When you hear gnawing in your attic and thoughts of water leaks, fire and a rat coming through your ceiling enter into your head I think you will deploy whatever means you can to stop the pest.
I deployed 2 of these and 2 humane traps so the ‘visitor’ can choose whichever exit it likes.
Hopefully one will get rid of the problem. This bait station/trap will do what it is meant to as it looks to be very capable. Be sure to check them daily.

Easy to setup, offers good protection from larger animals. Straight forward to bait and set the trap. So far have only caugh juvenile rats not sure if this is because they are less cautious or the fact that the trap enterence is small. Still five rats in the first four days, so it definately does what it is supposed to do.

We seem to have quite a few rats in our garden from time to time so I decided to buy these. They work really well, my only gripe is it’s damn near impossible to set the traps by pulling on the cable tie.
One piece of advice I can give is that I don’t find that using peanut butter as bait works terribly well, as the rodents seem to just lick it out of the cup without springing the trap. What works MUCH better is granola breakfast serial. Press a small amount into the cup, enough to fill it to the top, and its natural stickiness will make the rats work harder to get the bait, springing the trap.

This is fantastic. I feel guilty having to trap and kill the rats but I live on woodland and they are using my shed as a warm place to stay. I rescue animals and need poison free plus something safe the animals can’t get in to. It was easy to set up I used chocolate put some on the plate and speed some on the entrance holes. It caught something within a few hours. It is better then poison as it kills instant without putting other animals at risk of eating the vermin then getting poisoned them self.
It’s handy the boxes and the trap sits inside the box. Very happy with it.

The product seems well made and robust. It is easy to unlock and set…I cannot comment on how effective it is yet. I have placed it where I think it will be most effective without the trap inside to encourage the rats to explore and get comfortable with it. I am monitoring the activity with an infrared wildlife camera so I can monitor acceptance before I set a trap inside…

After baiting the trap, I tried some trip tests to see how keen the traps were (I bought two). One did not trip by the time the paddle reached the floor and the other travelled more than 50%. This was easily fixed, though, using a small warding file. Now the traps are simply brutal.
I dropped the stars to 4 as I could not set the trap using the tie-wrap: but this is a minor inconvenience.
The delivery was very fast; really good service.
Verdict so far – I would buy them again.

Sturdy and fits together well. Traps are very strong, and slide into a recess in the box. Come with a cable tie that fits through a little hole which allows you to see if the trap has been activated without unlocking. I just marked this with a silver pen when set so that if the silver mark has disappeared inside the box, I know the trap has sprung.

Horrified at finding a rat, I gave it the choice of leaving…alive…, it did not, so I purchased these kill traps based on what other purchasers had said. When they arrived, I was surprised at the sturdiness of the construction, and ease of use…I was flummoxed at first, because I only took one trap out of the box, and couldn’t figure out how to open the blasted thing.., however, I soon had both traps baited and set, all I have to do now is wait….hopefully not for too long..these trap boxes are well made, easy to set up, and, it would seem, well up to the distasteful job in hand. I would highly recommend these boxes to anyone who is plagued by filthy rats.

I’ve just purchased two more of these traps and they were delivered two days early, bonus!
It is my second purchase for my allotment, I keep chickens on. Some days I go to my chickens and there’s a rat in each trap which I place outside of my chicken runs. So with these new traps I will have four altogether. I stopped counting the rats I caught with the first two traps a while ago and in one year I got more than 65 rats. I use a bit of peanut butter with a dozen or so chicken food pellets as bait (As it’s the chicken food they’re after anyway it makes sense). When I empty the traps I throw the rats on the roofs of the chicken runs and the crows or magpies carry them off for me, quite efficient really. I would really recommend these traps, they’re strong, easy and simple to use. Also, I always have a dog with me which is why I don’t use poison.

Great product. Second day in place and rat caught and again the next day. I put bait in the traps in case the trap goes off ‘blank’ and that works as well. I use these around my hens run on my allotment. Recommend without hesitation. One minor complaint is it is impossible to set the trap using the cable tie provided! The tie does show if the trap set off but the internal angle precludes using it so set the trap.

I received this very quickly after ordering. The trap set seems to be of very good quality, and as described. I’ve sent them out in my garden about 9 days ago, but as yet the rat(s) have been trapped. (Hence, only a 4 star overall rating from me at this point). I’m pretty sure they’ve gone in to feed though (prior to me setting the trap), but am still waiting for them to set off the trap. Dave from Fort Products has been very helpful via email, offering suggestions and advise. I’ve now removed any other food sources (ie the bird feeder station), and will persevere. I know rats can be very timid and clever, so it may take patience. Overall, this seems a very good product and the service provided by Dave has been excellent.

We moved into a new house and found a family of rats that come into our garden from the neighbours garden. We tried the Big Cheese bait stations with poison bait blocks and saw that they were taking the bait (we found a huge one dead we’re guessing from the poison in the middle of our lawn). However after seeing about three rats playing next to the bait station we decided to look for a larger bait station that could hold spring traps as we wanted to see proof of the little guys dead instead of guessing they took the bait and died somewhere else we could not see. The Roshield bait stations came and they were much larger than the Big Cheese variants, we used smooth peanut butter and after 2-3 days we caught our first rat (see photo). The trap is very strong and snapped the rats neck, there was no blood so was easy to dispose of. We’ve reset the trap and we’re hoping to catch more. We also tried smaller spring traps, don’t bother with those. The rats were setting them off but just pulls free. These Roshield spring traps that come with the bait stations though… SO MUCH BETTER!

    HOORAY IT WORKS!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI gained a rat issue under my bird feeder. I was going to put down poison but then I saw a Sparrowhawk catch a young rat so I cannot risk poisoning a falcon. I bought two of these traps and placed them on the rat runs under the bird feeder, baited with a little peanut butter and the Roshield bait. I caught 1-2 rats per day every day for 2 weeks. Every single one was killed with a blow to the neck so no mess to clean up. The spring in the trigger is STRONG so will kill the rat quickly which is the most humane way – far more humane than poison.

To remove the rat, simply pick up the entire trap, take it to the bin, pull on the cable-tie which raises the trap again and the rat drops into the bin. You never have to touch the rat itself. Having re-baited it, you can use the cable tie to re-set the trigger which means that you don’t put your fingers in the danger zone as although I’ve not done it, I’m pretty sure that would hurt a LOT.

The actual trap part is a decent way inside the box so it is hard for children to accidentally get hit if they play with the unit. But it is still possible so always take care.

I would certainly recommend these to anyone with a rat issue.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe traps and enclosure are well designed and easy to use, once you work out that to use the opening key, you just need to give it a little bit of pressure as you turn it to release the catch rather than turn it completely like a regular keylock.

My rat problem is a nest under my neighbour’s shed at the bottom of the garden. There are a lot, and recently we’ve seen them on the bird feeder near the kitchen window. Time to do something about it! It’s surprising how limited your options are. Did you know that rats are protected under the Wild Mammals (Protection) Act 1996? You can’t kill them in a cruel way, including drowning.

I baited my traps with peanut butter and waited. All the advice says to expect no kills for a week or two. After a week and a bit I added some bait just inside the openings of the traps and in a day or two I could see that some of it had been taken, which I replaced each morning.

This morning when I checked, to my delight there was the bottom half of a rat protuding from the trap, clearly dead. If it had been any bigger, it wouldn’t have got in! I did hope I could leave the box closed and open the jaw of the trap with the tiewrap and drop it out without touching it, but it was wedged and I had to pull it out. A clean kill, no gore, broken neck. Interestingly, my other trap had also been set off, though the rat escaped!

Bottom line – be patient! Now for the rest of the family…….

5.0 out of 5 stars They work, but be patient!

Had to put some Bate around the entrance to entice, used some fancy Truffle Salami from Aldi. Broke the rats neck so instant kill, and no blood everywhere. Used a traditional wooden snap trap first and managed to only injure this ones bigger friend. I give this product 5 stars. Package arrived nice and fast, and it’s works great.

Bought 2 of these previously, i dont use poison but have a rat or two in the garden. I have used other snap traps in the past and some can be a bit tricky to set and place without taking your fingers off. These however are secure in a case, no danger of them snapping on your fingers as you set them. Totally enclosed, so safe for kids dogs etc.
Not caught the bloody rats yet, but it’ll take a few days for the new smell to wear off and for the buggers to be brave enough to try the yummy peanut butter inside.
One small issue, there was no key to open them included, luckily i have one from the previous set. But would be an issue if this was a fist purchase.

Good product. Bought 2 of these about two weeks ago as we have seen a big increase in number of rats in the garden. Within a week, there were seven less rats!
Worked best with bacon as bait and placed well up towards the mechanism of the trap itself so they have to get onto it to reach it. Bait the entrance with small bits too and small amount just outside. Allow a couple of days for them to get used to the traps and even not set them so they feel comfortable going into them.
The cable tie doesn’t really work well for setting the trap but is a good indicator as to when it has been activated, particularly when trap is in a covered area. Trying different baits is important as rats don’t always like the same things. We tried peanut butter – no success, bits of bread crust – some success, raw bacon bits – good success. Bacon needs changing every day or two if not taken as they aren’t interested in it when it’s old and dry.
Also tried using seeds but attracted too many birds and sparrows were bold enough to go inside. Didn’t want them getting caught in the trap.
Would happily recommend this as a good spring trap.

Really good for ease of use. Once caught, you don’t have to actually handle the dead rodent, just release the trap with the zip tie and tip out into a suitable bag/container to dispose of. The only thing I would add is it’s great for medium to small rodents (6″ and less). I have a much bigger rat than normal which managed to spring the trap and drag it about 15 feet to the other side of the garden and escape, there was fresh blood however.

Can’t fault the products, only the rats they are supposed to trap. To shrewd to venture any further than the openings even though lots of tasty treats on the spring loaded platform. The snap part is sensitive to the slightest weight which is great, I have weighted the box down with x2 bricks rather than faux to the fencing.

Bought 2 traps. One wouldn’t set properly so I emailed the company and they immediately replaced it, no questions asked, so top marks for customer service.
The traps themselves are very sturdy. Made out of heavy duty plastic with thick metal bars they’re built to do the job. And within 24 hours they did.
My neighbour recently knocked down his garden shed and the next day 2 rats showed up in my garden. One made his home under my shed and the other in the greenhouse. I baited a trap with peanut butter and put it in the greenhouse and now that rat is no more. I’m now waiting for the one under the shed to show an interest.
I hate killing animals but it has to be done and these are definitely the traps to do it.

I ordered a pair of boxes and traps and I have to say the quality of the product is great for the price.
I have installed two of these in the loft in the hope of catching the rat or rats that seem to be making their way up there.
Other measures have been deployed too of course, such as blocking any holes found and also placing a sonic deterrent up there where their nest was found.
I used peanut butter in the mouse traps.
I liked the idea of using the zip tie to place on the trap which is pulled in when the trap goes off. This saves you having to open the box for inspection.

The traps certainly close with a good bang! Mind your fingers! They slot into the boxes well although I noticed if you are not careful the base of the trip will come away from the box when you attempt to set it.
The locking mechanism seems good but it is made from plastic, so time will tell if that becomes a weak point.

The boxes are good with the locking mechanism so without the included key they would be very hard to open by say, children.
I am not sure what the other keys are for since only one of the side actually opens the box.

As of yet I do not know if these boxes and traps will actually catch anything but fingers crossed they are strong enough to kill outright (they may be rats but wouldn’t want them to die in agony) but also not decapitate for instance leaving me with a mess to clear up. Gloves deploy!

We have a happy expanding band of rodents resident under our shed so I ordered two of these traps before they started looking for more living quarters. The traps turned up with pretty good instructions. A lot of people complain about the lock and there is a knack to it. The key must be rotated 90 degrees (a quarter turn) and held in that position as you open the box (this splays a couple of tines within the box allowing opening). A little fiddly but it works well once you have the knack.

I handle the traps with gloves (even when unpacking) to avoid getting human scent on the traps. I’ve used a mix of nutella and birdseed as bait. The snap traps are powerful and relatively easy to set without risking fingers. The first night we had one juvenile rat, the second, two, one in each trap and the third night another. So, four rats in three nights is good going. They seem to be fairly humane as all the rats have died instantly. We tested the boxes to ensure our rabbit who roams freely in the garden cannot get into the boxes; so they are safe for her. The older rats may be harder to deal with as I suspect they get bigger by being more cautious but they may relax as the traps are around longer. I remove the rats each morning and rebait the traps in the evening.

A good solid product that has worked well for us at a reasonable price.

    Update (29/04/20):

The instructions recommend to leave the traps in place and keep them baited. They have dispatched a mouse but today, a few of weeks on have removed another rat. So, I’m really pleased with the traps and provided you follow the instructions carefully they work well and I thoroughly recommed them.

I bought this rat box because I’d got a very cunning rat which was regularly eating bird seed from the ground bird feeder. Having set up the box fairly easily (at first I put the cable tie on incorrectly but this was my fault) and set it with Nutella I then waited for a positive result. Unfortunately it wasn’t forthcoming – the positive result that is, not the rat which soon sussed out the trap and managed to eat the Nutella without setting off the trap. I then put the Nutella further out of reach but still the rat managed to eat it without setting off the trap. I knew that the trap was in working order because a) it nearly took my fingers off when I tested it and b) it caught a mouse which hadn’t been causing me a problem. I then decided that as the rat was entering the trap and eating the bait I would put poisoned bait in it as well as the Nutella. The poison I used was a small block especially for a tamper resistant station but what happened next was quite unbelievable – on 2 consecutive mornings I found that the Nutella had been eaten but the poisoned bait was on the patio outside the trap! This rat was getting the better of me and I wasn’t amused! Next I swapped the block bait for pellet bait and also blocked off the rat’s route across the garden to the box, the result being that the Nutella and pellet bait remain untouched and I have not seen the rat since which I suppose is a positive result although whether or not it is down to the rat box is debatable. One final comment is that I don’t find inspection of the box very easy as the key seems to turn endlessly round in the hole before finally engaging. However, I’ve got the rat box so I’ll persevere with it.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersI received the two traps in the same pack to deal with an outside rat colony feeding off my neighbours chicken coop but living in burrows in my own garden. I had previously used poison which is more expensive and I thought that traps would be more humane. The poison worked but the rats soon returned. I placed both boxes with traps inside next to rat runs. Nothing for a few days while the rats got used to them but 6 small brown rats within about 6 days afterwards. Looking forward to meeting the larger ones. I am using chocolate squares as bait and this works fine. For the squeamish amoungst you, there is no blood involved just instantaneous breaking of necks – sad but it has to be done.
I have given four stars for ease of use as the instructions were not adequate:
    1) they do not specify how to secure the traps within the boxes – they jam underneath a ledge at the front and push down at the rear to secure them.
    2) you have to ensure that the pad that sets off the trap has floated upwards, otherwise it will not operate.
    3) to open the box you use the square ended tool (rather than the other two mysterious ones) and just turn it through an eighth of a turn and pull – once you have the knack it works just fine

The plastic tie can be used to set the trap from outside with the lid shut but just as easy with the door open.

I have not trapped any other animals which is a relief!

  82. PorterMettler says:

    Well made and effective.

I placed the trap where we had seen rats over several nights baited with a Halibut fishing pellet jammed in the holder.
The kit comes with black cable ties as an aid to set the trap and an indication of tripping. I replaced these with white ones with a black marker line, maybe I need to go to speck-savers?,
Quite discreet being black and not as big as I imagined so easy to hide from the mother in law. 🙂
Lid lock is a little tricky to use but secure against pets.
Bait holding bar seems a little short but you may not need to use it, just place baits either in the trap holder or leave blocks loose in the back of the box. I doubt any rat could make the trip in and out alive.
Also, as the instructions suggest, use a dusting of salt to stop slugs getting to bait.

We live quite remote, in the country, backing onto a farm with horses and chickens, so live with rats near us all the time.
We started to see some near the cottage so started to lay traps. Our whole objective is to keep them in the farm, not coming near our cottage.
These traps are very well made, snap with great strength (kill the rat instantly), and are easy to get rid of any rats you trap, not requiring you to touch them at all.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe Rat Snap Traps arrived quickly, and were just as advertised. Included with the kit was a tube smelly bait to attract the rat’s, a key to open and close the trap, and a pair of zip ties.. Rats are wary of anything new, so it’s early day’s on how well they will perform. The zip tie attaches to the trap, with the end protruding from the box. The idea is to pull on the end of the tie to set the trap inside the box. For me it didn’t work to well, so not using the tie’s. I have also placed an old brick on top of the box as they are very light and move easily, which might put the rat off. will they work time will tell.

The boxes are solidly made and are child safe, which is important (and pet safe, I’d add). First time I baited the trap, I was too curious and I lookded at the box for the first few days. When nothing was happening, I did as the instructions say and left it alone for longer, a week is specified. Actually, during that 7 days, I found a dead rat on the path and there has been no evidence of further rat activity. So either there was only one rat or the rat had been taking the bait back to a nest and the nest had been eliminated. I’ll never know but the rats aren’t around any longer. I’m happy.

Caught two mice and a starling so the traps work. The rat has not been seen since the traps were deployed. So, for whatever reason, job accomplished. Small comment about the locking mechanism the lock/catch is like a clothes peg you place the key into the hole and slowly turn it left or right about a quarter turn. This spreads the two arms of the catch apart, like a cam, which allows the lid to be lifted. It is not a full turn.

The trap was easy to set with the lid shut so there was no chance of catching your fingers and set the trap. We caught nothing for 48 hours and then one in each. While we don’t like hurt animals the trap is so strong it is quick and clean.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersAbsolutely excellent ! Delivered 24 hrs after I ordered them. Put one in the garage where a rat had been causing me problems and avoiding the normal cheap snap traps. Baited it with a dog biscuit jammed into the cup and a peanut butter coating, got it this morning!!!! The second went out in the garden near the bird feeders and I got a second this evening. I’ve dogs and of course birds in the garden and the trap set in the box is ideal to stop accidental captures. Both were small rats obviously roaming around, they are the first I’ve ever seen around here. I’ll keep baiting them and see what turns up. Certainly the design with a dark hole seems to draw them in. And being plastic they will last in the wetter weather. Delighted ,well worth the extra spend.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersEasy to use and set up. They’re robust and definitely prevent my spaniels getting at the bait, try as they might. I like that the box can be locked shut and once set, they’re pretty unobtrusive. I’m not sure I have a serious rat problem but I saw one in the garden so it was Rat Trap time, just in case.

Golden Review Award: 74 From Our UsersI purchased 2 x Roshield Rat Snap Traps with the two external protector boxes a couple of weeks ago. I have used tunnel rat traps for years on farms and shoots to control vermin but didn’t want to use any of those at home as our two Labradors have free run of the garden when they are not out with me. I was concerned that they could access ordinary traps and injure themselves. When the two Roshield traps and boxes arrived I thought that they were well made and exactly what I was looking for. I baited both of them with peanut butter, as recommended, and placed them out on the two rat runs I could identify. They stayed there for a week with no catches. I changed the bait using dog food (dry chicken and rice kibble) but ground it to a fine crumb, placed it in the bait container and scattered a few crumbs in both sides of the box entrances. Instant success as the next morning there were two dead rats caught in the traps. The following night another one followed but in the other box the bait had been taken but no rat! The trap was still cocked. I examined the trap with the box open and could see that it was ‘operator fault’. I had failed to arm the trap properly. It is possible to engage the release sear with the trigger plate without the plate being properly in position. I found that the fail safe method was to cock the trap with one hand and use an old table knife to just lift the trigger plate slightly until it clicks into place. It should be clear of the bottom of the box by about 10mm. Having done that and re-baited there two more rats in the bag the following morning. These are absolutely first class traps and safe to use where dogs have access. The cable tie included in the kit works well as a ‘bait taken’ indicator but not as an external cocking mechanism as is suggested in the instructions. This is no big deal as you have to open the box to re-bait it anyway. I can thoroughly recommend these rat traps and they are an absolute bargain at this money.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe best rat trap and box I’ve ever tried!

Living in a rural area the mice and rats can be a nuisance, especially once they develop a taste for chicken feed!
I’ve tried many types of rat trap as poison is not suitable due to our cats.

These are fab, solidly built and, so far, have done a good job.

They key is solid, the lock s simple and strong and the addition of the zip tie allows an indicator if the trap has been sprung without having to go near it every day.

Site them properly, bait them, leave them alone and it’ll do the job admirably.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersGood Product, well made and easy to use. Chocolate spread found to be a good one for mice, rats love dog biscuits.
Mice are easy pickings, Rats I am sad to say are not. In my limited experience they are wary of anything new and hence it is best that you bait the traps and not initially set them…On this basis the blighters get used to a food supply and then when set, well the rest is history so to speak. I have tried other methods and like most people do not want to harm animals. I unfortunately had to resort to these as the critters are to intelligent for the humane methods that I used and the electrocutor did failed miserably.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersThese are great rat traps, essentially bait boxes with a fitted snap trap that can be removed if you’d prefer to use as a bait box. Best bit is, with the supplied zip tie attached to the arm on the trap and fed out through the slot in the side of the box, the trap can be set without even opening the box. Also, getting the trapped rat out is now clean and easy, just hold the box over the bin, pull the zip tie and the rat drops out into the rubbish – no need to touch the dirty rat!

I have numerous traps in various price ranges and these are by far the most effective. I’m very please with my purchase.

Golden Review Award: 34 From Our UsersOK used these long enough to be able to give an honest opinion. First off, the product itself is well designed and sturdy, it doesn’t feel or look cheap and I expect it to last. The first night I used it bait was taken but the trap didn’t deploy. I think you need to set it and get it to fire a few times first in order to “loosen up” the mechanism. I was also putting the bait (peanut butter) near the edge of the trap. There’s an actual hole slap bang in the centre of the trap that I believe is intended for the bait.

Second night I put a tiny amount of bait in the hole and caught two of the buggers, third night I caught another one. I’ve checked last night and the bait hasn’t been taken, hopefully I’m winning the war and the mice haven’t just gotten wise to the traps

I’m giving four marks rather than five as I believe the traps themselves could be a little more sensitive to pressure, but having said that when the traps do deploy they do so with such force it guarantees a humane kill

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersI have a dozen chickens and live in an old neighbourhood, near a railway tunnel. I have to keep on top of rodents or I will be overrun by the revolting creatures. I have been impressed by the Roshield products and, as I write, they are killing rats for me. The traps are strong but sensitive (they should have a Tinder profile) and the snap is impressively frightening. The box is very sturdy and easy to clean (handy, because I lace the poison with a peanut butter/ground glass mixture). The little leaflet on how to trap rats was handy, and I learnt something new – rats and I share a preference for crunchy peanut butter.
All in all, a pleasing purchase that arrived promptly, was well packaged, and delivers death to rats.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersSafe and effective rat traps. The boxes give you the option of using poison bait if desired (both granules or blocks) in a safe locked box to prevent other animals getting to it (cats/dogs etc) or you can use the snap traps supplied which fit securely into the plastic tunnel boxes to enable safe and hygienic placement of traps where required. The boxes ensure prying little fingers or pets can’t get hurt easily, but obviously best practice is to place these traps away from likely public access wherever possible.
Tip: best bait for mice and rats I’ve found so far is peanut butter or nuttela chocolate spread- easily applied to the trigger pads of snap traps, and rats and mice love the stuff.
