The kettle is a very nice, classic design. Very fast and the water pours effortlessly.
However, two niggly points that could be improved with a design tweak:
The lid is very tight and it needs a good twist to lift it off.
There’s also no little LED light built in the handle or the base to tell you that it is on.
We did not have this little light in the old days. But practically all the current kettles have either the light in the handle or built in the base. So, why not?
This kettle was quick boiling. When boiled water taste fine. Filter was difficult to remove for cleaning.
Brilliant kettle, almost as good as the original. Love the way it pours, someone said it splashes when it pours after boiling, this only happens if you don’t give it a couple of seconds before pouring. Lightweight, easy to fill, no annoying plastic parts to break.
The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because the on/off switch does not always engage, I think that this will fail eventually. It is a shame that this part of the kettle isn’t a bit more substantial, as far as I can see this is the only thing that lets this lovely kettle down. I did remove the plastic filler marker from inside the kettle. One other small gripe is the very small fill indicator needs a red ball so that it is better visually.
I really like this, it fits really well in my 1970’s style kitchen.
Its Brilliant. Love the vintage look. It isn’t very big however, only 1.2 litre but it’s great just for us two
Proper well pouring kettle. Quick to boil and relatively quiet. Would buy again for sure.
Sexy little kettle. Easy to fill and clean. Water goes exactly where wanted, NOT all over the floor and counter. Very good looking and lightweight. But it really is VERY noisy! Still, I love it.
When the kettle arrived I thought it a bit small but I was wrong. It is a great kettle and I was pleased how smoothly it poured! I have had it now for 5 months and still the best kettles I’ve owned.
Lightweight and great to pour. Very well balanced and the stream of water is excellent. Heats up quickly as well
This is a nice looking, easy to use kettle, and it fits on the base well
I’ve knocked it down a star because of two things, it’s capacity being only 1.2ltres and there’s no light.
I work with earphones in and have always used the light on the kettle to know when it’s done. Not having this incredibly simple addition is disappointing. Also the capacity is only about three mugs of tea. It’s getting filled all the time.
It’s a lovely kettle. Quite, beautiful in looks and sturdiness too. The pour is as smooth as velvet, I’ve never bought a kettle like it. We did have the 1970,s versions which I remember well and it has a lovely nostalgic feel to it.
The base plate seems a little light but hasn’t been a problem so far. Would I recommend.. yes, would I buy a slightly bigger version with a light on, yes.
And do get one of those little descaler balls which lives inside kettles as they do work if your waters hard, our last descaler ball turned green and solid it had that much lime scale in it.
Stable, fast boiling kettle with indicators for small volumes. Miss having a light that shows when the kettle is on but as it boils so quickly it is easy to hear that it is on.
very small water level marker. no indicator light. otherwise o.k.
Used product to make a drink and add to other things I may want don’t like it thinking of buying another one from Amazo
My jug kettle base had come to the end of it’s life and I like this kettle as it has a stainless steel lid which lifts off. The kettle is lighter because of the element in the separate base.
Got this for my dad. A great pourer, no drips and seems sturdy. One of those items that has stayed close to an original design because it works.
Well worth the money, I’ll be buying one next.
Haven’t used yet as it’s for my new kitchen. Good size, looks good and good quality. Reminds me of our kettle at home all those years ago!
I prefer steel kettles and this replaces an old Russell Hobbs I had for many years. It looks nice, is quite noisy. Oddly, you can’t pour efficiently at boiling point as it splutters out. So you have to wait a few seconds. The old one was better!
I used this product for, strangely enough, boiling water for tea after years of using plastic kettles with water filters.
I love the retro look, and tea once again tastes fantastic! We use a separate jug for filtering the water now.
My only criticisms are:
The water level indicator could really use a small floating indicator of some type, as it is difficult to see the level of the water.
The weird plastic indicators for ultra-fast boil inside make it harder than it needs to be to clean the interior. And I don’t use them for the purpose designed anyway.
Other than that, well pleased!
The perfect pour! Heats really quickly, and has good weight. Cleaning I use a liquid cleaner with water rinse, a bit challenging to get inside with a pad cleaner. Highly recommended.
Smashing little kettle would have been 5 stars but needs ON indicator light and coloured plastic to show water level much clearer.
I wanted one of these when they first come out but I couldn’t afford one. I was really pleased to see this company selling them a lot cheaper than they were and are now. It goes perfectly in my 60s style kitchen. It’s mega quiet, quick & it pours lovely.
Really fabulous kettle, looks good and timeless, boils quickly, very light and pours better than any kettle Ive ever handled. Highly recommend
I was looking for a kettle with no plastic, so I was pleased the red plastic water level indicator and the mesh filter inside the kettle were both easily removable. They were both unnecessary for me as the external water gauge shows the water level and I use filtered water. I am happy to say that without them there is no plastic smell or taste to the water.
So why not 5 stars? The kettle has one flaw – if you try and pour from it while the water it is still actively boiling, the boiling water splurts from the spout, overshooting where you were aiming. Not such a big deal if you are pouring into a large bowl or pan, but annoying and potentially dangerous if aiming for a cup or a hot water bottle. The solution is simple though, just wait a few seconds until the boiling in the kettle has subsided and gone quiet, then the kettle will pour with ease and great accuracy. I had read about this problem before I purchased the kettle and I’m glad I didn’t let it put me off. In my opinion the good points of this kettle outweigh it’s one bad one, although I can imagine the pouring problem could be an issue in some households.
This kettle is every bit as good as the old Russell Hobbs kettles. Very satisfied.
I wasn’t sure if I would like this style but I have to admit it is lovely and neat on the counter, the spout and pouring of the kettle is so good. No overflowing water everywhere like most kettles I have used. Good buy and am pleased I chose this style
We seem to have to replace our kettle every 2 years and x months, precisely when the warranty runs out. We’ve had cheap kettles and expensive kettles, but the story is the same. We plunged for this one because it looked like it might go further. We like the small capacity (1.2l) paired with the high power (3000W), meaning it does boil very quickly. We also like the quirky design. The pour is excellent. And it is not too noisy. The main negative for us is that the base is incredibly cheap and plasticky (the kettle itself is made of very thin metal, meaning it is lightweight). Overall we’re glad we bought it, and I might come back in 2 years and x months and tell you if it is still going. The external water level indicator is hard to read, but we don’t bother with that anyway as you just get used to how fast your tap delivers 2 or 3 cups. Filling via the spout works fine for us, but if you have a tap which has a wide output, you might have to go in through the top.
We have used Russell Hobbs kettles for years. They are reliable and efficient. The earlier kettles had a direct immersion element. Modern kettle (like this one) have a heating element concealed in the base of the kettle which only connects with the electricity supply when placed on its base. This creates more noise when the kettle is working, but is electrically safer.
Had russell hobbs or swan kettles for years, this RH one looks the part, and heats water up very quickly
Ideal for my elderly mum, holds enough water so not to heavy for her to lift as she has arthritis in her hands
Kettle retro style very please boiks quickly and quieter than last kettle
I’m so pleased with this kettle! The retro look is great, it boils quickly and quietly and it pours beautifully. Would definitely recommend it for any kitchen!
I love this kettle especially the ‘pour’ from the perfect spout! 2 things that would have brought the review to 5 stars is it’s a bit small and for the price it would be nice if water gauge lit up. Otherwise it’s fab, the base, the style and the quick boil.
I needed a replacement for an ancient kettle which had sprung a leak. The Russel Hobbs 25860 K65 I ordered turned out to be better than a replacement. It is brilliant! It performs its kettle job so fast. If I fancy a ‘quick cuppa’ it really is quick.
Basically it’s just an ordinary small kettle, yes it works okay but it’s nothing special to write home about. I do like the spout design. Certainly not a good as my old kettle which I can no longer obtain. I think it’s overpriced.
An accurate reproduction of the original and looks the part, even has the serial number clearly showing on the handle! Boils quickly enough and is reasonably quiet. It only holds 1.2 litres which seems to be a growing trend. Only downside is that the water level on the side is difficult to read.
IT CAME UNBROKEN, IT WORKS QUICKLY AND LOOKS GOOD IN THE KITCHEN.
Like many people, i baught this kettle based on iconic looks and memories of it at my parents house. The base is made of plastic, but once you have filled the kettle, the flex conforms to the route you want it to take from the plug. The base doesnt detract from the style. The kettle has markers on the inside (red) and a gauge on the outside to inform you how much you are filling it. At first i wanted the on switch to light up to let me know when i had turned it on correctly, however it starts to boil in seconds, so you hear the sound. It boils quickly, and for me the sound isnt too noisy. You have to let the kettle finish boiling and then a few seconds before pouring (as with all kettles the water will still be boiling inside the kettle for a few seconds after it turns off), this way you dont spill boiling water everywhere and you get a good pour. There are no negatives i can think of and im a perfectionist! Finally register on line, takes seconds using the serial number on the kettle, and this extends your guarantee. Good luck!
Do not buy this kettle if there’s a chance you could be aroused by kitchen appliances.
The design is beautiful and the pouring action is nothing short of sexy.
Nice kettle- hasn’t quite got the feel of quality about it but works well and looks great.
Cracking little kettle. Saw this after our old kettle died within a couple of years of ownership. Saw this and reminded me of a kettle from my childhood home. So bought it. It is on the small side, but well made and doesn’t take long to do it’s job. Much faster than the original version of this kettle would have manage to boil water.
Very nice kettle nice family size smart and quick boiling.
Makes cold water hot, perfect for tea coffee or possibly hot chocolate
Beautiful retro kettle. Very stylish and works perfectly. Stainless steel, very easy to wipe over and pours well.
I owned this style 40 years ago and just had to have the anniversary edition. It makes me smile to look at……
Shape an older design and makes it easier to lift and pour than jug shape. If strength and lifting a problem no strain.
This kettle is great. I love the way it pours and also that you can boil enough water for one cup/mug. It boils really quickly.
I love the style of my new kettle and it pours so nicely! I realise that sounds ridiculous but my previous two kettles leaked and weren’t easy to pour without over pouring then water would leak out of the lid.
Really basic and classic.
Gives me joy every time I make a cuppa (a lot in lockdown!)
I had one of these kettles when I was first married snd have not found one to match it till now. Updated but still the same retro look. Fantastic
Finally lost patience with my rubbish old jug style kettle that was always spilling water from the lid every time I poured it and took the plunge on a K65. More than I’ve ever spent on a kettle but worth every penny. Quick to boil and such a thing of beauty to have on the benchtop. And the pouring action is georgeous. No messy spills here, just a delicate arc of hot water hitting the middle of the cup every time. I absolutely love it.
I love every single thing about this kettle! The way it looks, how quickly it boils and how I have finally found a kettle whereby the spout actually pours into the mug not dribbling down the side!
which is even better for my arthritic thumb joints.
It automatically switches off as soon as it reaches boiling, unlike my previous kettle which continued for a good few seconds . The reason for this I think is that there is quite a large pouring spout, and if you tip it too far it overshoots the teapot/ cup.
So far the lid is easy to remove for filling .
I am pleased with my purchase.
I’m really pleased with this kettle having owned one of originals . It looks good, is much quieter than my old jug kettle, is easy to fill and pours quickly and smoothly. I haven’t had any problems so far after using it for 2 weeks. Well worth the money.
This kettle was even better than the photo, it looks great in my kitchen. It’s very different to a jug kettle, the long spout makes pouring the water out easily . Love the handle shape, was worried that my fingers would mark it, but it hasn’t a mark on it and it’s in constant use! Has handy water level gauge inside 1/2 or 3 cups.
For many years I have been searching for the kettle that is similar to what I remember growing up, so many these days are plastic, which is not great, others leak, drip when pouring or have a bad taste. This is excellent, its just like I remember. Pouring from this kettle, even direct from boiling cut-off is a dream, no splashing, no drips. Does not take long to boil either and although some have said noisy, its no noisy then other kettles I have owned. Size is also a plus, its 1.2l which is smaller than most coming out at between 1.6-1.8l, for the wife and myself its just the right size. Just hope it will last, if not then I will be contacting Amazon for a replacement.
Was expecting kettle to be noisy But quieter than my last ( but I wouldn’t sag it’s quiet )! None the less it’s great easy to use
Pleased overall with the kettle but I do find the water gauge irritatingly difficult to read resulting in guessing the level by shaking the kettle to see if I can see the water moving in the indicator or looking inside the kettle to see how much water is in there.
Best kettle I’ve had (since the 1970’s).
Pros:
Lovely spout that pours very smoothly unlike modern kettles with their short stubby spouts.
Fits nicely under the tap even when the sink is full.
Nice fast boil.
Cons:
No light on it.
Unnesesary depth gauge on the handle which may be (though hopefully not due to the build quality) an area of leakage in the future (has a good depth guage on the inside)
I am beyond happy with this kettle. Boils quick, looks so stylish. It pours so beautifully, I love it. Came before date given and well packaged. Highly recommend
Lightweight and efficient, this kettle comes to the boil in super quick time. Lights, gadgets and beeps aren’t needed when it comes to quality.
Classic design just looks right and is beautifully balanced to pour. Not the biggest capacity boils enough for about 3 mugs. Looks and feels well made but doesn’t feel as sturdy as I remember the 80s versions being
I like the lightness in weight and the way it pours, it’s also quite quiet in operation. I would have preferred it in a polished stainless steel finish but you can’t always have what you’d like. The one thing I don’t like is the contents level at the back of the kettle body. All the kettles I have seen with this facility ends up showing a level of loose limescale and the viewing panels becoming opaque which makes the kettle look old.
Very good kettle liked shape easy to fill light to pick up very sma
Great that it’s an all stainless steel reducing the risk of micro plastics in your tea & coffee
I’m pleased with the look of the Kettle. It also boils nice and quick. Only downside in the looks department is the plastic base which would have been better if it was metal. Once it’s boiled you need to leave it a few seconds or it spits out the water at you. Overall though I’m happy with it.
Love the retro look. Good pourer & not heavy even when full. There is a water level indicator which I find it difficult to read because it’s small but that may just be me. However, it’s only on one side so left handers may find it a little awkward.
That said, it looks smart, is easy to clean & a pleasant change from the taller upright models.
Beats all the fancy kettles does what it says on the box
This kettle is so much better than my previous unit,
It pours so easily and boils so quickly.
Great kettle, study and boils quick have no complaints. Would have preferred the kettle to have a light which lits up when switched on.
Looks smart and does the job. Nice brushed metal body with shiny cap looks good. Seems quite thin metal though and VERY noisy at first. Love the spout, easy to pour without dripping. Could have bought cheaper kettle but wanted ‘retro’ look.
Absolutely love my new kettle,
perfect size and boils quickly!!
Could be quieter but I have yet to find a really quiet Kettle.
Only just received but very happy with performance. Just been reading that it is called Anniversary Kettle – 65 years Anniversary – to think that is was our 65th Anniversary a few months ago. It just HAD to be that I chose this particular kettle!easy
I bought this kettle for my grandparents, but I actually like it so much I’m thinking of getting one myself. It’s certainly not to everyone’s taste, but checks that industrial / form-follows-function type of style with a few quirky features, such as (what I assume to be) its unique serial number printed vertically down the back of the kettle.
Love this kettle.
If the quality had been higher – or the price lower, it would be a 5*.
Very rapid boil, the perfect pour, but a little thin, metal-wise and a little high, price-wise.
We had been using this style of Russel Hobbs kettle since we got married.
It was great to see it on sale again. Looks good, pours extremely well. Very happy with purchase
There is possibly one small criticism (and I somehow missed it in the questions/reviews), it is the plastic base. For the price I’d expect at least the ‘shiny’ plastic rim edge to be metal. It would have finished it off perfectly.
Would I recommend this product? Definitely I would buy it again but I hope to get many years of use out of it first.
Always buy Russell Hobbs kettles. Great value for money and last . Great style.
Appears to work well and wife whom was not sure at first has become a fan. Not as heavy gauge as the original and neither scalds your hands. The lid vent is now a for show bump not something that belches steam. Learning to pour is an exercise but when you have the technique it very good. This is no different and similar to the original spout / design.
I wasn’t sure whether to buy this or not, in terms of its style, but I’m really pleased with it. It looks very smart, boils quickly, turns off as soon as it’s boiled (rather than several seconds later, having filled the room first with steam, like so many other kettles tend to do). As many have said, pours really nicely too. It also has a filter located just inside the spout, which can easily be un-clipped and cleaned as necessary. It has three plastic water level markers clipped inside too, to assist with putting in the correct amount of water, however these can be easily removed from the kettle, if you don’t want plastic within the kettle. So overall very pleased. One small design change I would have made is to add a simple red LED in the on/off switch, to illuminate when powered on, but otherwise a great kettle.
Excellent kettle, best pourer I’ve had for years. Started off very quiet but is quite noisy now hence four stars
I really like the shape and style of this kettle and it has a good pouring spout.
I like the shape, size and colour It pours very easily. the size suits me and I like the overall look the kettle.
Bought this kettle as a cheap replace for a very exspecive kettle which did not last very long and had a poor pooring spout…
I’ve gone through 5 different kettles in the last 2 years… All had faultys and a spout which did not poor well…
This Russel hobs boils quickly and the long spout is great for pooring without spills…
It’s easy to clean and looks great…
Had one of theses some 50 years ago but this is so much lighter and the base is not particularly good
Well designed, this kettle has a useful measure both on the outside and on the inside which with red markers showing the amount of water needed for up to three cups. It is lightweight to hold, easy to fill under the tap and boils rapidly.
Very good kettle, looks good and works really well. Just give it a wipe when you fill it and it stays clean very easily. My only small niggle – no on/off light.
have to be careful where the vent in the lid goes. my husband was slightly burnt from the hot steam
Lovely looking kettle, boils very quickly, not too heavy for my old hands, just rather loud when boiling, but as it does it so quickly it doesn’t bother me, well worth the price
Excellent, looks good, smaller size suits us very well and we tend to boil less water. The kettle is light and seems to be well built. However we have only had it for five weeks but we are pleased with our purchase so fa
This is the one thing I spent more on than I could have. It’s a really nice, friendly kettle. It boils quickly. Please check the capacity to be sure it suits your need – it seems ‘smaller’ than I might have thought. No issues with heat on your hand when pouring boiled water.
The ‘nozzle’ doesn’t spill a drop – yay. It’s a bit too willing to spurt though – pour gently.
Would buy this again. I wan’t something friendly when I wake up and make tea.
Love this kettle much easier to handle and it reminds me of younger days
Love my new kettle. It IS energy efficient and I really like the retro style.
Which magazine downrated this kettle heavily because they said it was noisy. I even cancelled our order twice before finally placing and I am so glad I did.
This is not by any reasonable measure a noisy kettle. It’s quieter than the Morphy Richards pyramid kettle it replaced.
It is just right size-wise. Not too small, not too big. Feels nice to pour. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this.
Top marks, Russell Hobbs.
There’s no light to tell you it’s on. Unless you have hearing impairments, this shouldn’t be a problem to anyone and is infinitely preferable to designers’ tendencies to include tacky blue LEDs on everything.
VERY fast boiling. Beautiful design classic and in no way outdated. Im SO PLEASED!!! WELL done Russell hobbs.
We decided to go for this model due to nostalgic reasons, growing up with the original model.
I absolutely love the simplicity of the design and functionality of the model. Does what it’s supposed to do, looks beautiful, grip is nice and ergonomic and I like how the water flows out of the spout when you poor it. Can highly recommend i
Firstly, it’s cordless, as you’d expect nowadays.
It does seem less substantial, though this has the advantage of making it feel relatively light (it is smaller than the average kettle, though, at 1.2l compared to the usual 1.7 or 1.5l. This makes it big enough to fill 4 of my mugs).
My only real criticism is about the lid, which does seem a bit flimsy, particularly the knob, not like the solid lump of Bakelite (or whatever it was) of old. The same might be said about the handle, but it isn’t as obvious.
In terms of practicalities, it pours very well indeed, much better than any kettle I’ve had for a long time. With this sort of kettle, you do have to take the lid off for filling, but I can remove it easily enough with the same hand I’m using to hold it. There’s a gauge inside for 1, 2 or 3 mugs as well as the external one showing 0.5l to full. It’s 3kW and boils quickly. It switches off quickly when it boils and emits very little steam. It doesn’t appear to leak round the lid, even when tipped up too far.
It doesn’t have a light, so if you live with someone who keeps switching the kettle off at at the plug, you might get frustrated. You can only switch it on when it’s on its base, but it doesn’t mind if the power is off and will sit there happily doing nothing until you realise it isn’t making boiling sounds.
I’d originally selected 4 stars, but on reflection, I think it’s as close to the ideal kettle for me as I’m going to get, so it deserves 5.
