Russell Hobbs RHM2362S 23L Microwave, 800W, Auto Defrost, Silve
About your Russell Hobbs microwave
Microwave ovens do not generate any heat themselves but instead cause water molecules in food to vibrate. This vibration produces heat that cooks the food. This is why your food will come out of the microwave piping hot, when your utensils inside the microwave stay much cooler.
Microwaves cannot go through metal, so the inside of the appliance is lined with metal. The door is lined with a fine metal mesh which stops microwaves getting through.
Cleaning
Avoid using scouring pads, steel wool or other abrasives. Warm soapy water and a sponge should get rid of all moisture and food spillages.
How to get the best cooking results
Reheat
With five microwave power levels to choose from, you can ensure all your food is cooked or re-heated to the optimum temperature.
Auto-Defrost
This microwave has automatic defrost settings, all you have to do is input the weight of the food and the microwave selects the ideal defrost time.
Auto Cook Menus
The RHM2362S also features pre-programmed auto cook menus such as pizza, fish and popcorn, allowing you to cook all your favourite food at the push of a button.
Hints and tips
To avoid any microwave mishaps it is recommended to take extra care with the following:
Low moisture foods (eg. cereals, bagels, dried pasta, pulses and chocolate)
– These must be cooked on a low power level for a very short length of time, or preferably not at all.
High sugar content foods (eg. jams, syrups)
– These foods can become easily âsuper-heatedâ when cooked in a microwave oven.
Foods containing alcohol
– Foods with an alcohol content must not be cooked in a microwave as they could ignite.
Foods with a membrane or outer skin (eg. fruits, sausages, potatoes)
– Food with a sealed or none porous skin must be pierced to allow pressure and steam to escape.

Been working for a few months been fine, the only thing is you can’t see though the door so you have to pop open the door and have a peep if you need to, other than that a good microwave.
I was a little worried about the mirror finish in a kitchen, i could imagine lots of finger prints etc, you do get them but this wipes clean so isn’t like some other products I’ve had with uncleanable parts. The space inside is more than big enough for a large dinner plate, easy to operate with a quick start option (you just press the middle of the dial to get 30secs of warming time) heats food well and evenly, we’ve had it for a few months now and all ok.
Great size, fits bigger dinner plates easily and the 800 watt power is ideal. Simple controls are easy to use. Very reliable. We have had one for 5 years with no problems, bought this one as a gift.
Nice looking microwave, looks great in my kitchen.
Bit bigger than my last Russel Hobbs microwave. Choose same brand as last one was easy to use/clean & looked smart with mirrowrd door. This new one doesn’t disappoint, would recommend.
Fits in well with our kitchen design regarding appearance and it is reasonably easy to follow the operating instructions.
Great microwave lovely stylish design. Very roomy inside.
Loud beep (and it beeps about 5 or 6 times, which for me isnt great as I’ve got an 18 month old and a 2 month old so it does wake them up sometimes… but I see past it as it is such a good microwave)
Really pleased with this microwave. The extra 3 litre capacity has made a massive difference. Looks lovely and is so easy to use. I bought this during a sale, I would not have considered at its full price. My previous Russell Hobbs was under 70 and was great. Have not used the defrost feature yet.
Purchased this to replace our old, battered analogue (think: “ping!”) microwave that we’d had for years. Quality of this item is excellent – good range of time/power settings, easy to use, good size, and generally easy to clean. Only negative is that the mirrored front seems to pick up the slightest bit of grease/dust in the environment, so we’re constantly wiping the door down – other than that, would heartily recommend this microwave!
Writing this review 2 years down the line. Easy to use, functioning microwave with a sleek exterior that fits well with my kitchen. Can’t fault it. Used regularly and no issues with it at all so far!
I’ve owned this for four years. It’s used a few times a week and has never let me down.
I’m a technologically minded person, but when it comes to things like microwaves, I like it to be simple. I just want to set the power and the cooking time. This model does actually have “weight defrost” and “time defrost” modes, but I have never used them. Apart from that, you can adjust the power (10%, 30%, 50%, 80%, 100%) and set the cooking time either by pressing the main button (goes up by 30s each press) or by rotating it to select a time.
As you rotate the main dial clockwise, the cooking time goes up in increments of 10s. As you rotate it anticlockwise it counts backwards from the maximum cooking time, which is 95 minutes. Unfortunately the dial button is quite sensitive, and sometimes I find myself nudging it and finding I’ve selected 95 minutes cooking time. It’s not a problem since it’s very obvious what’s happened. I wish it was a firmer action though.
It beeps five times when the cooking time is up, and once for each button press. I’d like to be able to turn it down to avoid disturbing people late at night, but this isn’t possible. Also, if it reaches the end of the cooking time and you press stop or open the door quickly, it still insists on beeping the full five times.
Despite these couple of small niggles, it’s a decent machine which is quite powerful. I leave the door open for a couple of minutes after cooking, and I haven’t seen any rust problems.
The exterior is 49cm H, 29cm W, 38cm D. The interior is 30cm W, 20cm H, 30cm D. The turntable is 27cm in diameter.
Bought this in Jan 2015 and still going strong with no sign of wear or aging. It heats well and consistently without much noise or fuss.
Plenty or automatic and defrost options for a wide variety of foods. Never had and issue defrosting mear or sauces. I tend to manually reduce the power myself than use the auto options but that’s just preference.
Easy to clean as plate and roller ring remove easily. White vinegar seems to work best and simply wipes out any mess or food explosions.
Good value, reliable and durable. Recommend.
This is a great microwave. I purchased this to replace the family 20 year old microwave. Although smaller it still managed to fit a large plate of food. For example a big Sunday roast is no problem.
I wouldn’t say it is the most durable though. It does feel as though the panels are wafer thin and the hinge also does not allow the door to open more than 90 degrees an accident waiting to happen (clipping the door).
It is very easy to use. I didnt bother with the instructions.
Straight forward to clean as you would expect a microwave to be.
The mirror finish on the door adds a nice touch of elegance but also allows you to look through at the right angle.
Overall fairly pleased.
An excellent microwave. But there is one really annoying thing, hence 4 stars. The front has a mirror finish that, if the room is brightly lit, you can barely see inside. You need to put your face right next to the door. In the attached photo the microwave is turned on and contains a large mug. You can just make it out if you try hard but it’s not easy. Every other microwave I’ve had had a pain glass front which was much easier to see through.
Love this microwave, looks sleek on my worktop and is a nice size that fits my large plates. Also fits in other things like packet rice and popcorn which I found tricky in my smaller microwave. Controls are easy to use
Lovely looking and works great from cooking to defrosting food
leave alot of finger prints.. Then when you clean it it smears! but bit of elbow grease and its clean again!. Good thing, not used often only for steralising bottles and dummies.
After a year of use am pleased with my purhache
Heats things really well. Easy to use. Wouldn’t recommend the following objects in there:
Potatoes
Eggs (whole)
Eggs (loose)
Nokia 3310
Anything at all metal dear god
Plastic that’s not got that little sign saying it’s ok
Most things without a hole in it
P.s. dominos reheats well after 2 minutes in the microwave next day you’re welcome
Small footprint but holds quite a lot. Good range of functions and easy to use dial operation for quickstart etc. It looks very stylish and suits a modern kitchen. However it is very light and does tend to move when pulling the door open. It is also a bit fiddly to get to the turntable to sit properly on the bearings. Despite this good value for the money, happy with it overall.
I wanted a microwave which was medium sized and this fits the bill nicely.
I also didn’t want one that was too complicated as there are only a few programmes that I am ever likely to use.
It’s very easy to use, just select the level then turn the knob to select the time.
Maybe a digital entry of the time would be easier but this works perfectly fine.
very elegant looking mirror doored microwave. The only drawback with the mirrored door is you have to keep on polishing or finger marks are very noticeable after using it every time. Good big size and very useful
This is an excellent buy. Easy to operate and large enough for all of my dishes. I recommend this.
Purchased this for my mum, who was in desperate need of a new microwave. I needed something within a small budget that was nonetheless reasonably powerful and spacious – this item fits the bill and so far it has served her well. Encountered no problems and the easy interface has a lot of useful options for microwaving different foods – I can testify it cooks popcorn perfectly!
No complaints about its operation so far. But the requirement of considerable space above the machine seems excessive, and makes installation difficult. I have rather less than the required space where I need the machine to be.
Stylish microwave from a very well trusted brand manufacturer.
Good size interior, not giant. If you’re looking for a very wide base, perhaps to put square or very large plates in, then i’m afraid this isn’t what you’re looking for. However, for average crockery it’s an amazing microwave, and especially for the price.
Never had one single problem in the three years i’ve owned it; it works wonders.
10/10 would recommend
I was debatting which microwave to get and couldn’t decide between a few of the russell hobbs but I decided to get this one even though it was a bit more expensive and I am really glad I did. It’s big so it can fit in a all of my dinner plates, bowls… When the microwave is on you can see the food cooking. I definitely recommend getting this microwave.
Fairly simple to use and it looks very nice in my kitche
A decent general use microwave. Very easy to use and looks a treat in the kitchen. Its a very light unit and the door latch is quite firm. You need to hold the unit when opening the door or it will move
This microwave is great, decent size on the inside, looks great with our other chrome effect appliances and cooks food in a timely manner. Have had for almost a year now, gets used in an almost daily basis and it still has plenty more use in it. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a new microwave.
It operates exactly as described in the specification.Very pleased with this equipment.
I bought this in 2015 and it still works marvellously well. It is quite basic and therefore simple to use. This idiot managed just fine. The press buttons are quite straightforward and the dial allows you to set the time and weight required to do whatever needs doing. We’ve been using this in the London flat where space is the luxury we can’t afford. This microwave sits nicely in the small kitchen. Only gripe is that the light is not as bright as I’d like it so it can be difficult trying to check on your food without actually opening the door.
Good item, does exactly what it says. Good size and nice finish
Can’t really fault the sizelooks for the price, but interface is horrible to use. It is impossible to set a specific time (not in 30 second chunks) without first setting the power percentage. Waste of time. It should assume want 100% power each time.
THE unit operates exactly as expected with no problems to date.
I have had a few microwave ovens over the years and I must say this is one of the best.I do a lot of bulk cooking eg stews and casseroles with no problems. What I particulary like about this one is the operating system it really is childs play, it is so simple to use.Another good feature is the non metallic interior,it’ s very easy to clean. This has been an excellent buy.
Very good buy @ 65. Replaces a 16 year-old Sharp and works fine. Nice to be able to heat for 5-10-15- seconds up to 60, then in 10-second segments. Seems a genuine 800 Watts and does what it says on the box.
good product easy to use not had any problems with this produc
I bought this for my new kitchen and was extremely pleased when it arrive. It has such a lovely design and the buttons are simple and easy to use. My only criticism in terms of functionality would be that it isn’t initially obvious how to get a “quick start” of 30 seconds or so (a feature most tend to have now). Once you work it out it’s very simple – maybe I should have just read the instructions! It’s very easy to clean and works great as a mirror, believe it or not. A nice little extra shine in the kitchen.
Excellent microwave at the right price and fast delivery what more could you ask for?
If you’re looking for a microwave you can’t go too wrong with this one. It’s a good size and reasonably priced, heats evenly, has plenty of features but is very simple to use at the same time. The big central button instantly starts a 30s timer (more presses for multiples of 30s) and is a great idea- I probably rarely use anything else in fact.
Only negative I can think of is that the front is easily marked by fingerprints but not a major issue and I think is a fairly common problem with a number of other models!
This is a lovely looking microwave. Can never seem to go wrong with Russell Hobbs.
It has a slightly larger capacity than the average microwave within its price range and packs plenty of features that are easy to access.
I don’t find myself using the wheel all too often. I find tapping the buttons easier.
It’s a shame there is only one vent on the left side as limits placement in kitchen.
Decent price. Good size for large dinner plates – be careful with smaller models I suspect. Looks nice. I suspect door will scratch easily. Buttons and knobs seem flimsy. Easier to use than many microwaves, although two basic dials – time and power – are really all that is needed.
First one was faulty: It won’t stay on for longer than 2 minutes at a time as it overheats, getting incredibly hot on top without any obstructions causing it. Looks as though the fan was broken.
Ordered a replacement in the end even though it was over the 30 day return limit. The replacement works fine now and it was quite easy to return the broken microwave – they arrange a collection for it. Seems like a standard microwave as long as you don’t get a fault one.
We needed a microwave with baby due soon, and I was keen to get a microwavable steriliser such as these (bought the top one):
MAM Microwave Steam & Cold Water Steriliser
Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Steriliser (Microwave)
Philips AVENT SCF281/02 Microwave Steriliser
Many of the reviews complain that they don’t fit in ‘regular’ microwaves which have become more compact over the years. I compared the various measurements and went with this microwave – the MAM steriliser fits perfectly so I’m sure the others will too. It fits directly onto the rotating plate, so will spin with no need to remove the plate, and has space around the steriliser.
Microwave is very easy to use – I worked everything out without looking at the booklet – it’s not complex. Main reason for the review is to say if you need a microwave that will fit a baby steriliser, this one fits the bill.
Good product–it’s served us well so far. I’ve never quite been able to get used to the dial as the primary mode of setting the timer, and the way it turns, even after a year, still seems counter-intuitive. Still, pretty happy with it–the defrost feature works especially well: warms very slowly but evenly to protect the food quality.
This seems to be an excellent value medium sized microwave oven with every option that you might need. I particularly like the defrosting option – you can choose the exact time you want, or you can set it to defrost according to the weight of the food chosen. The display is clear and easily understood – good idea to read the instruction book first probably, but it is fairly straightforward. 24 digital clock shows the time all the time the machine is not actually in use. The front of the door has a silvery mirror finish which looks very smart though I think a plain glass one would be better and might make it easier to see what’s going on inside when cooking as the internal light is not very bright, though adequate. The turntable accommodates a full size dinner plate and there is plenty of room for, say, a whole chicken or a large bowl of something. The door is opened with the handle – no push button opening, and the timer/temperature is set by turning a dial until the display gives the correct reading. Several temperature options give a fairly versatile range of cooking. For the price this is a very good microwave.
Very sleek design and reasonably solid build. Although: WHY do designers have some kind of pathological aversion to knobs which feel as if they may actually stay fixed to the mother-device for a year or so. Washing machines, HiFi, Vacuum cleaners, Cookers – the knobs are all falling off. Is this a cunning plan to increase product turnover and consumption??
Ok – Looks well and cooks well and it’s easy enough to fire up and fly the thing without instructions. Annoyingly possibly, you can’t change the power setting in mid-cook, unlike the trusty but ailing Matsui unit (28 years old!) which I gifted to a homeless (but newly re-homed) person recently.
Excellent value too.
Am so pleased with this product does everything you need thanks
Good size. I have large square plates which I have struggled to fit in previous microwaves. Easy to use, who needs instructions?
Finally, a microwave that doesn’t wake a sleeping army.
Okay, so I had a set budget for a new microwave and needed one that looked expensive, wasn’t loud and did everything I needed it to do.
Well thanks you Russell Hobbs.
This microwave is rather on the large side, so I did have to move a few things around in the kitchen. The mirrored glass is great (I love staring at myself when I’m cooking), but it’s a pain to clean.
The digital settings and buttons make heating/defrosting things a dream, and the best part is that there is only a light humming sound when something is being heated up. Such a huge difference to being able to hear the microwave from the next room.
All works and looks well, only problems I can see poor not very stable unlevel feet and being very light hard to stay put when opening if used in conjunction with wall brackets. Also the instruction for anything not totally basic seem somewhat protracted.
This really is an excellent microwave at an excellent price. I purchased it to replace a Panasonic (which cost loads more) and failed after 2 years! After doing all the research I settled on this one and I don’t regret it at all. I slightly agree with some of the comments about setting the timer which is a LITTLE bit different, but once used to it, no problem. Again, a really good microwave.
This microwave is fantastic, it has a easy to use knob on the front which you can use for setting time, mode and weight. For ease of use, you can press it to put 30 seconds on the clock and keep pressing it to get the amount of time you require.
The beep to tell you it’s done is loud enough to hear out of the kitchen.
This microwave is big enoughti fit s full sized round plate in it which can still turn without hitting the sides.
The front glass is mirrored and does require effort to keep clean but once done, it looks fantastic.
The microwave, microwaves food perfectly and is much better than the budget one I had previously.
eceived this yesterday the 02032016
Not bad looking Easy to work with What Impressed me was the insertions so easy to read big an clear which makes a change from others so now we will see how well it works at this moment in time I’m delighted with microwave.
As good as we hoped. Decent handle on the door and a brilliant button to tap in a few minutes for a fast and uncomplicated start.
I ordered this at 2pm Saturday and it was delivered 8.30am on Sunday. Excellent service!
The product itself: very nice looking with a shiny mirror door. Just the right size, easily takes a dinner plate, (I found the 20 ltr ones just about took a dinner plate).
Inside the oven is white which I prefer as easier to view food cooking and easier to see that it is clean.
Very easy to use. Very pleased!
Awesome product and service, love the quick timing with push of a button, thank you so much 🙂
This microwave is awesome, it brightens up my kitchen it looks so good, a nice size I’ve yet to use it even though it’s been a few months I’ve had it, I’m looking forward to using it this christmas, this product was nearly packaged and arrived early, much appreciated..
I was a little apprehensive when I read the reviews, but this Microwave works beautifully. It is easy to use, has a useful timer which can be used on its own and is spacious. If there is any criticism, it is that it slides around on the granite worktop. Rubber tipped feet would overcome this.
I bought this microwave last year! It worked great, no difficulties with using at all, however almost after one year the light bulb didn’t work!! And the greatest Amazon service fixed my problem by exchanging my old microwave to the new one!!!!! I’m so happy!! Thank you Amazon for a great job xxx
Nice looking. Compact. Works well.
The Panasonic we had was over 25 years old and still going strong, but was only 600 watts.
Not sure if this one will last as long!
Cannot understand why this one is more complicated. I could set how many seconds I wanted the Panasonic to run. This operates in 30 second slots and you have to stop it part way through if you want less than 30 seconds. Why?
My first has given up after eight years of loyal service.
It met its demise with a boot of lightning filled by a puff of smoke.
Undeterred but naturally surprised I have found a more or less exact replacement ( my wife does not like change ).
The only difference I can see between this one and the last is the coating inside is much improved and easier to wipe clean and some repositioning off the exhaust vents.
A very simple to use, twist the dial left then press the black start button for timed cooking using full power or just repeatedly press the black start button for instant cooking at 30s intervals.
For more advanced users there are presets. Especially useful is the one for jacket potatoes.
I last purchased this item in 2015. It still worked fine but after almost 8 years of constant use areas of the top and inside front were showing signs or slight rust. So I decided to replace it. But as it was so easy to use I wanted an identical one to my old one. I was thrilled to find Russel Hobbs are still making them.
So easy to use . Set the cock and the power to 100 or 80 or lower and it will stay at that. Looks gorgeous with its mirrored front. What’s not to love? I would give it ten stars for looks, cost, ease of use, and reliability. But I can only go up 5.
Tip… to prolong life Always wipe any moisture away after cooking and leave door ajar for 5 minutes. It paid off for me.
Stylish looking microwave.
Pros
– Easily hots up food
– Notifies you when the microwave has finished cooking by a beeping sound which has 5 beeps
Cons
– Microwave suffers badly with condensation, however just leave the door slightly open
– The timing option should have just been a simple + / – button instead of the faffing around
– Door outside glass leaves smudges/smears when wiped
Overall the microwave is usable and is just used to hot up food.
Arrived on the day it was promised to be delivered and does all the things which I want it to do.
Good capacity, easy to use, good value for money. Oversize packaging.
Bought for my 90+ years mum, very easy to use and plenty big enough for large plates etc. would recommend .
ealy good oven easy to use and also looks good
Good but mirrored front is too reflective so you can’t see inside when items are cooking.
This is a practical and very simple machine that does all the main microwave jobs needed for everyday work in the kitchen. It does not deal with the more complicated jobs that microwaves can be used for, though can be adapted for use alongside other systems. It was inexpensive, is attractive to look at and easy to use. However one has to be careful because it is very light and is easily nudged.
Just what was required and looks great. Impressed with quality and Amazon response when the first order went missing.
Excelle
I bought this microwave for my 80 year old Mother who absolutely loves it, it has a lovely look about it and stands out in her kitchen! It is the nicest microwave I have seen. Can’t really comment on the ‘cooking’ part of it as my Mam just uses it for basic things. One of the reasons I went with this model in particular was the handle on it, my Mam is in a wheelchair and the last microwave she had, had a push button to open the door, when she pushed the button the microwave would slide back…this one is very easy to open for her. The door is very reflective (which I didn’t realise) but its not a problem, you can still see into it, if needed. So all in all – definitely a good buy!
If we need a new one I would definitely get one of these.
Good purchase, more features than our old one but a lot cheaper. Would recommend
Was looking for something simple to operate and effective in use – This is it!
I purchased this microwave as my first in a new house. Given how long I have known microwaves of friends and family to last, I did plenty of research before buying. There are a number of good points about this microwave:
– The materials, build quality, design and finish are all very good
– The cooking space inside is more than adequate
– The 800W power usage compared with 1000W of most 25L was a key selling point, providing a quick heat/cook time without excess
– The quick start function works well and allows you to add 30 more seconds while cooking
– The timer is very handy when cooking in the oven
There are a few small niggles:
– Because the quick start button is part of the rotary dial and the dial moves quite freely, you can sometimes turn the dial by accident when pressing the button
– As mentioned by others, it would have made far more sense to have the clockwise turn of the dial be time and anticlockwise the auto menu, it would mean you do not have to turn one click anticlockwise then clockwise to start counting up
I would recommend this microwave to anyone looking to make a new purchase.
a nice interior size, fairly simple to use, instructions could be a bit clearer I think.
It looks nice in the kitchen and does “chirp” when timer has finished to let you know the food is done.
It`s nice being able to fit a dinner plate inside without it catching on the way round.
Yes I like the microwave. Looks good, works well and is really easy to operate (ignore the reviews that say otherwise). So why not five stars? Well, I ordered this to replace my existing model and needed iit quickly. So I chose one available on Prime and if ordered in the next 30 minutes would arrive the following day – Sunday – which is very convenient for me. So I did and got the immediate message that it would be delivered on the Monday. Instead on having it delivered when I had chosen I had to wait in on the Monday. We pay for Prime so not a happy bunny.
A couple of months on, we’re liking the Russell Hobbs microwave after chronic problems with a couple of Panasonics over the past 4 years. The main thing we have found is that the power output remains consistent and doesn’t fade (like the Panasonic did) with longer cycles. Slightly smaller inside, but it’s not a tardis. Still takes a full sized dinner plate.
Looks good. I would drop the mirror door finish as it does impact being able to see inside. We like the slightly retro looking red LED display.
Easy to use controls.
Arrived quickly and in good condition. On reading the instructions and looking at front panel it looks complicated, on using it [ I use it at least 1 -2 times a day] it is really quite easy to work. The more you use it the easier it seems. It is big enough for a 26cm dinner plate with room to spare at the sides. Not overly noisy and you cant miss the beeps, one on switching power on and 5 when timer finished. also gives you the option on how many watts you use off the max 800. e.g. 20, 40 60 80 100%, Will defrost for you also. inside lights up when you open the door. As you would expect from R H build quality looks good. I am very happy with the microwave
I bought this microwave in December 2014. The quality build is excellent, and easy to use. The instructions could be improved upon. It’s best to read and play around with the settings — to know how it works. That’s how I’ve learnt to use it. In my opinion paying approx. 70 is a little high for a non-combi microwave, but it’s definitely worth having. I’ve just ordered another one these for my mother-in-law, she loves using our microwave. Now that I have used it, if I had to buy it again, I would beg, borrow or save up to buy this microwave. Worth a 5 star rating.
Bought for my daughter as a gift and she tells me its brilliant very useful and reliable she loves the mirror door front too lol
Purchased to replace a relic from the stone age. Lots of options which are easily accessible although you will need to refer to the manual to understand exactly what some of the food specific modes are trying to do. For basic heating function you get direct access to 30 second increments through the main knob but to get access to more continuous variations in time you either have to press the TIMER button then twiddle the knob or, oddly, turn the knob left then right. We keep turning it right first which takes you into a confusing series of menus regarding food type. Never used such a mode so this is annoying.
Best bit is that it is extremely shiny!
Finally watch the price. Every so often Amazon drop the price by 16 quid to 54 quid. Just bide your time
his microwave was delevered within 2 days and is just what the docter ordered with thanks p jordan.
Great microwave. Very simple to use. Looks very stylish. Would highly recommend this product.
Is beautiful, efficient and its cover all my expectations!! It was delivered exactly when they have told. I am very happy!!
Excellent service , product does all we could ask. Looks good too.
When our old Sharp combination microwave packed in a month or so ago I replaced it with a top line Panasonic model but that didn’t even last a day as it started making odd noises, ignoring the timer which was still counting down and switching off every few seconds and it started to get very hot on top.
I accept I may have had a rogue machine but that put me off the more expensive models and I decided to try the No #1 best selling microwave, purely on the strength of other positive reviews and so far it has been an excellent choice.
You do need to ensure there is space 20cm space either side and 30cm space above and it advises not to put anything on top of the machine, all those instructions should be made clearer as no doubt space may be an issue for some people; as may be the instruction that it is just for food and is not suitable for heating warming pads or wheat bags.
On the plus side it is ridiculously easy to use, pressing power gives the choice of 5 power levels from 100% full heat down to 10% and once you have chosen the setting just press the large black start/confirm button and as you turn the dial to the right it starts to count the time upwards, press start/confirm button again and it starts cooking. You can also press the start button to add 30 seconds each time which is handy if you are cooking something that will take a while.
There are two defrosting functions to choose either by weight or time and 8 settings to cook various foods which I haven’t had the need to try yet.
For the price I cannot fault it, my mother oddly currently struggles remembering how to use it but it is so basic it only takes a few seconds to remind her and it is relatively new and she had no issue with our previous more complex Sharp model. That’s just a minor gripe and when weighed against the plus points it’s a small price to pay for the ease of operation.
This was purchased for the kitchen at work, so is used daily by a number of staff and seems to be doing the job! The last one we had used to overheat after being used once, this one, so far, has been grea
Smart, easy to use, good quality. I love this Microwave
Fabulously easy to use and a great price for the size it is too. It’s a pretty simple set of programming to be able to use – I was able to get it set up and set the clock etc without consulting the manual. It has 6 great presets and an independent timer function you can use without using the actual microwave function.
We bought this to replace a smaller 20l microwave as it did not fit either of our microwave bottle sterilisers for our baby, but this one does! We have both the MAM and the Tommee Tippee microwave serilisers and both fit and turn comfortably.
Heats up food, looks good, reasonably compact – everything a microwave should be! The menus I think are a little complicated, it’s not intuitive as to how to start the thing, I had to read the manual. However, it’s really handy how you can keep pressing the round dial to add 30 seconds onto the timer, that’s pretty much the only function you should need to use in day-to-day usage. The only drawback is the mirrored front – it looks great, but you can’t see through it to see how the food is doing, even with the light on inside. Bit daft, but not losing sleep over it…
Seems great so far. Good looks. Only oddity is the selection knob rather than the usual press-buttons, which confuses some of my carers. (I’ve not actually been able to use it myself yet.)
Update 23 March 2023: Can now say that this is still a very good buy, and I’ve now found a near matching grill oven to stand on top of it with some supermagnets I added to the feet.
The outside of the microwave still looks perfect, and the glass cleans up a treat with a misting of vinegar and wipe with kitchen paper (Amazon brown paper from their packaging is v useful for cleaning glass too!). The outside metal is stainless but still usefully magnetic, but the whole thing is let down because they made the inside compartment from ordinary iron, and it is very prone to rust in the edges and corners, and under the turntable and on the internal doorframe.
This is really unforgivable design when the outside looks so good and the electronics and other components are still perfect after years of use. Sadly, this will mean that most of these beautiful ovens will have been thrown out within a few years, though they still worked perfectly! I, myself have persevered, and have, so far, twice sanded down the rust and repainted with smooth Hammerite. The first time was hard work and didn’t give a very smooth finish, and the door soon rusted again where it touches the frame when closed. The latest time, I got a Dremel grinding tool and made a better job of smoothing the rust and old paint before repainting, and, this time, keeping the door and frame from contacting, with a layer of white electrical tape on the frame, and black on the door. It now looks good as new.
One reason for the rapid rusting is likely that the designers, stupidly, made it so that the internal light stays on with the door open and does not cut out to save electricity, so people tend to close the door with it still damp inside. This could easily have been solved with a simple delay switch at manufacturing stage. Some people probably leave the door open and turn it off at the wall, but then you have to do without the useful clock and reset it for every use. I found a push button switch to put under the control panel, that I now turn the light off with so I can leave the door open, so it should last longer this time, (But you have to know what you are doing if you try this, as there is dangerously high voltage in the main capacitor nearby, even when the unit is unplugged, so best left to an electrician who knows how to discharge it.).
Internal plate broke after a week…. not very robust? Machine is very good though.
I read a lot of reviews of many types of microwave and we reckoned this would be a good replacement for our old microwave which was well over 20 years old and used daily. However, it has been groaning recently and we felt that it had had its day. This one is a good replacement, although doesn’t do so much. However it does the necessary – cooking on 5 different power settings plus defrost, useful quick microwave setting etc. I’m not that keen on having multifunction controls, but I’ll get used to it as it’s all pretty straightforward. I’m not sure I’ll be using the menu settings – pizza, meat, veg, beverages etc., but you never know I might change my mind. The instructions are very very clear and it’s a good idea also to read how to clean and look after it – eg no unnecessary microwave cleaners, and drying the inside after cleaning it (so many people in other reviews of other products complained about rust, and that’s probably why).
The only reason I do not give this 5 stars is that in the blurb about it online there is no mention of having to place it 2- cams each side from the nearest wall, and that you should have a clearance of 30cm above it. We have had to adjust the position of it to accommodate this. You only come across this in the booklet.
If you want a basic microwave oven this is the one. I got one for my elderly mum who needs clear, precise instructions. I was so impressed with it that I got one for myself. If you just want a microwave with no other programs then I highly recommend this one.
It looks good and works ok once one masters the somewhat complicated timing device.it does the jobwith ease so ok
The microwave looks sleek and elegant which does prove it can do the job alright!. Heats up food really fast and the user interface and buttons are really easy to use. Recommended
Our long standing aldi microwave stopped turning round so I saw this in the sale and bought it! Excellent value for money. I recommend it.
Very pleased with my new microwave. It’s a little larger than my previous one which is useful, as I was rather limited with the other one. Its controls are pretty easy to learn, though not what one would call instinctive. It looks good. It works well, and the power range is excellent.
The only drawback I can see is that although, along with more sophisticated controls, it has a simple, one push equals 30 seconds of time button, it is quite possible to push the button slightly off centre and suddenly have a timing of 95 minutes! This does not really matter to me as I can spot it immediately, but my husband has Alzheimers and to try to keep things as simple as possible for him, I suggested just using the 30 second button, pressing it as needed. He’s managed to set it for very some long times already!
I realise that for most people, this would not present a problem, but it would be good if it was not possible to make this mistake. All in all, I think it is a very machine and would recommend it.
This is only the third microwave we have bought since the 1980’s and by far the least expensive. It does not have some of the programmes of our last oven but then most of them were rarely if ever used.
The Russell Hobbs has a striking modern appearance and we are well pleased that it does everything that we want. Two things prevent us giving 100%…..during daylight hours it is difficult to see through the glass door but more importantly the mains cable is 20cm shorter than the last oven and does not reach the nearest socket from the shelf that I constructed a few years ago and in the instruction manual it states that an extension lead should not be used! Perhaps other manufacturers use similar lengths but this cannot be found in their specifications.
