I love my Ryobi drill/driver – I use it for everything. Battery seems to last for several hours of use. I love the little light to see what you are doing. Just seemed to be a cheap tool when I bought it but actually for me feels like quality. Not sure how long it will last but for now thumbs up Ryobi.
This is my 1st RYOBI product and it wont be the last after this one. Its extremely powerful , loads of torque and the 2.5 amp battery that came with it last a while. Good solid piece of kit IMO. I ve had a few drills over the years, None as good as this.
I use it mainly around the house. A nice and versatile piece to have in your toolbox.
The only thing that i found a little strange is that when you put the drill in the position 2 when it stops from turning it sounds metallic. Like braking steel on steel with a washer loose. Anyone else noticed that?

A very kind friend did some research for me. I wanted a drill with a bit of ‘welly’ and a screwdriver that would keep going for a lot longer than my much cheaper one – and combined in one tool.
So far, I have used this for both drilling and as a screwdriver and it had been impressive. It is early days yet but I’m hopeful that this will remain a favourite. I use it primarily to assemble flat-packed furniture and for doing odd jobs and repairs, so it doesn’t get heavy use.
This is my 3rd or 4th ryobi drill,i use them all day everyday & they have yet to let me down, this was in the amazon werehouse & the discription said they was a couple scratches on the rear,knowing how i treat them this wasnt an issue for me so i bought it,When i got it the damage was on the toolbag,drill was it free of damage,having said that it has been used,the screwdriver bit you get was worn.think getting a drill for just over half price i will cope with that.

Good balanced weight and reasonably compact for the power it delivers. Feels nice to use and seems fairly robust. Gripe I have is with Ryobi as a company since I purchased this as part of a promotion they were running (12 tools of Xmas). Although they stated I’d receive a chosen tool around 14 days later, it’s been 2 months and still nothings arrived. So if you ever buy anything from them on the back of a promo, be prepared. Hopefully, I’ll receive what’s been promised but I’m not sure it’s ever going to arrive!? Which is a real shame for their credibility – hence only 4 stars.
I am well impressed with how lightweight it is for something with so much thickness. I have to say it is well value for the money. I would have given more stars if they were available.

I’m a big fan of the Ryobi range, and the cordless drill driver is another quality addition to their tool armoury. Solid construction and manufacture. Bits fit in securely and I’ve used this now on a number of home projects without issue, injury, or worry. Lightweight enough to use for a couple of hours (for me) without discomfort and so its ergonomics must be good. The light on the front is a nice touch, especially when working in corners or down behind furniture. Their quality (and my love of their products) continues.
This Ryobi starter set is a good, practical, all-in-one kit introduction to the One+ system – a system which includes a wide range of batteries, chargers, and tools sold as bare units. The set comes with the lightweight, cordless drill/driver; a 2.0Ah battery; a standard speed charger; and a storage/carry bag (in Ryobi green, grey, and black). It’s quite nicely presented and looks like something that would make a good, practical present for e.g. someone who’s just bought their first home.
The combi drill is good: the cordless design is nice and lightweight, but still pretty rugged and solid feeling. It has a comfort grip sculpted, rubberised handle that’s practical for sustained use. The LED light comes on with the slightest touch of the trigger, and remains lit for a few seconds after use. The drill comes with a single double-ended driver bit, which clips in to the base of the drill for storage. The drill/driver is reasonably powerful — anything I’d have considered doing with a regular, corded drill/driver can be done with this, and the battery life is pretty decent. I’ve used this to build an arbour (required pre-drilling pilot holes, before screws were added); two veg trug planters; and a pair of 4×3′ sheds, as well as reinstalling a door and replacing a leg on a cupboard. All from a single charge of the supplied battery.
This is a basic starter kit. This kit includes a standard, smaller battery and charger from the One+ range, and a standard combi drill/driver (a brushless one is also available within the system). The battery/charger pairing is fine for a starter set, for someone who uses their drill/driver occasionally, and to get a general idea of the system without investing too heavily. The standard battery, small size battery doesn’t have a charge indicator, but with the supplied charger takes only an hour to charge from depleted.
This is an updated version of Ryobi’s One+ cordless combi drill/driver, which has a shorter, and more balanced profile and an LED light, but no magnetic pad to put bits/screws. The contents of the starter kit are an update on a previous version that used to come with two spare 1.3Ah batteries, instead of a single 2.0Ah battery. I think perhaps when updating their description of the starter kit, someone at Ryobi forgot to take this into account, as at the time of writing the manufacturer provided part of the product description states: “This Starter Kit is sold with 1 x 2.0Ah Lithium batteries, so you always have a fully charged spare battery ready to go.” Which makes no sense at all, and is not an accurate reflection of the product. Hopefully Ryobi will spot this error and amend their blurb.
To expand. About seven years ago I decided to renovate a house and it was going to be a big job. Because of that I figured I’d buy a few battery tools to make sure I was kitted out and at the time Ryobi were fairly cheap compared to the likes of Bosch and other mid range manufacturers. Ryobi to be fair were probably not at the same marketing level so could not charge the same.
Anyway, over seven years I’ve utterly hammered my Ryobi tools. They have been used, abused, dropped from the top of my house and left in the cold. When I bought the initial batch of tools I also bought four batteries. Two of them are still working fine despite literally hundreds of charges. So, when someone tells me that ‘X’ is better because of the name I simply ignore them because my own experience has been completely positive. In fact to further that, I’m a marine engineer in the oil industry and as such have had access to tools that would make Bill Gates wince. And they have performed no better.
Now, I have noted a couple of things. Well, three. Firstly the quality has improved. Ryobi tools do feel far more premium than my first yellow ones. Secondly, with that increase in quality has come price. You are paying similar money to a mid range Bosch tool – although I will stand by the assertion that Ryobi batteries are far better. Thirdly the batteries themselves have become much better. My first ones were 2.4Ahr. Now they are up around 5.5 Ahr in the same pack.
Speaking of battery pack, the one killer thing about Ryobi is that their battery packs have not changed. They are big and chunky in the higher Ah range for sure, but unlike just about every other brand I can think of, they have stuck to the same fitting size meaning your tools and batteries remain very compatible.
This drill is better than my other ones maintaining the gradual improvement. It’s similar in quality to the one I bought a couple of years ago but it has two advantages. The chuck will take 13mm whereas the older type is about 10mm and its a bit shorter giving you a bit more advantage in tight spaces.
In use it’s like any other decent battery drill. Basically excellent. I’m always astonished at just how good these things are with huge amounts of torque available. Okay, I know that the plantetary gearbox takes centre stage there and of course the torque vs speed isn’t the same as a mains drill given the battery volts. But, for almost all jobs bar drilling in thick steel, this drill is superb.
To hand it is comfortable to use and has a decent heft which I like as it helps keep everything nice and solid.
Build quality is excellent. I know there are many detractors but I’ve had no problems in many years. Not only that Ryobi is owned by Tecktronic Industries of Hong Kong who also own Milwaukee, Hoover, AEG, Rigid and Vax among others. And people can say it until they are blue in the face, but no company is going to use different bits in their own tools. Buy a Ryobi and I’m quite sure you are getting the same level as their premium branded Milwaukee stuff in a yellow case.
When asked I always say the same thing when buying battery tools. Choose the battery system first. Once you have got a few lithium power packs then you are almost stuck in the system and the manufacturers know it. Ryobi in my opinion have some of the best battery packs and probably the biggest compatible range out there. Thus for me, its a no brainer.
Now, with that in mind I’d say that this drill and battery pack is not the best choice. The 2Ah battery is bum basic and you will probably want a better one soon such as the 5Ah one. Looking around I think for a small amount more I’d buy the bare tool and a higher Ah battery instead.
One more thing. This isn’t a brushless tool. That actually isn’t too big a deal in reality. Whilst brushless is undoubtedly the way forward in many ways, the additional price for slightly improved efficiency isn’t justified for most people.
Overall, a great tool and best of all a comprehensive battery system.
This drill arrived with a charger, carrying bag and a 2.0 Ah One+ compatible battery.
The drill feels very well made and sits nicely in the hand. The reversal switch falls nicely under my finger and thumb meaning that I do not have to use my other hand when changing direction. The chuck is easy to tighten and it holds bits well. The torque selection goes from “lots” down to a very low torque when screwdriving to protect your delicate materials. The LED is on the bottom of the handle and lights up work well enough. The motor is powerful enough to drill into almost anything and drive a decent width and length of screw into almost any material.
The only slight problem I have is that the chuck struggles to hold small drill bits – around about 1 mm – needing a lot of tightening to keep them in place.
Overall I am a big fan of the Ryobi One+ system, and this drill continues to impress me with its quality and design.
I’ve owned a few Ryobi drills. This has a very nice balance and cones with battery, bag and charger.
It doesn’t have a hammer drill setting however (I tend to use a pair of drills anyway to avoid bit changing where I can, so this is the hefty screwdriver option).
The best in this series is the brushless hammerdrill version if you are comparing versions.
There was no issues with it working as mentioned by a previous reviewer. When I have had issues it’s because
1 the battery is flat.
2 the forward reverse switch is in the middle
3. The speed 1 speed 2 switch got stuck (happened once and just needed jiggling.
Lovely piece of kit.
This drill is comfortable in the hand, well-balanced, and lightweight for the power it offers but NB it does not have a percussion mode, which seriously limits its versatility.
The chuck is very easy to use and does its job perfectly. The drill offers two speeds for rotary drilling and screwdriving. There are 24 torque settings. The LED light makes a very welcome addition — one of those things I didn’t know I needed.
My old One+ drill had a 1.3Ah battery which lasted ages. The 2.0Ah battery with this one should last even longer. I don’t know yet, but it certainly shows no signs of fading after heavy use over the weekend.
Note that there are a couple of errors in the listing, not that I think anyone would be misled. Firstly, it says “This Starter Kit is sold with 1 x 2.0Ah Lithium batteries, so you always have a fully charged spare battery ready to go”. It’s correct to say there’s only one battery but therefore wrong to say “you always have a fully charged spare battery ready to go”. And there’s confusion about the torque on offer — the description says 50Nm in one place but 400Nm elsewhere — 50Nm is of course correct and that’s what the instructions say.
My only criticism is over the bag. It’s a very good bag, smart, strong and lightweight, but I’d much rather have a hard case. A hard case would offer better protection and be easier to clean. The instructions are strictly pictorial. I’ve complained about them with some of the other tools, but with a drill it doesn’t really matter.
Bottom line — this is a first-rate tool, as long as you don’t need hammer action, and the three-year warranty (if you register) is a real bonus.
This is a full ONE+ “Starter Kit” and thus comes with battery and charger (which can then be used with other Ryobi ONE+ “Bare Tools”).
Compared with my other ONE+ battery packs it seems they sell ones with no “Fuel Gauge” LED’s so you have no way of knowing how charged up they are. It seems they now do a range of batteries with and without the indicators which seems a little silly to me.
With lithium batteries they just seem to go from working to stopping when the built in protection turns off the load (drill stops working).
The other small thing which could be better is the work light. Granted my old one does not have one but this one only comes on after the motor starts so you cant see where to position the drill on the work surface. The first touch on the trigger should turn the light on.
The drill is 2 speed with variable electronic speed control and does NOT have a hammer drill mode.
The drill machine balance is good making it easy to drill level and the bag is not bad but has no internal compartments for the charger or any drill bits (no drill bits provided, just one double ended screwdriver bit mounted on the drill body).
The instructions are all in English with a set for the drill machine and another for the basic charger (faster ones are available as well of course larger capacity battery packs).
