akes some effort to learn and to use, mainly around working out the amount of coffee and grain size and tapping. Once done, it works well and consistent. The frothing is ability is excellent. Remember to run clean cycles as required.

This machine really brings out the flavour of the coffee in a way that none of the previous machines I have owned managed. It is easy to use, with a great deal of different settings to deliver the perfect cup of coffee.
It is well worth the money if you enjoy great tasting coffee.

I’ve always used a stove top bialetti pot and a manual grinder but I felt I really wanted to have a sort of home barista type experience but with my limited ability!. the small of the machine ground coffee and then steamed milk.
I wanted to electronically grind the beans and froth and steam milk. So I felt this was the right balance for me between automation and customisation. I think if you want to be able to do even manual things you may want a less digital one, one with more manual nobs and levers and things, but for me And what I wanted, it’s perfect!.
You select what drink then grind an tamp the beans (with a degrees of alteration depending on the beans used etc, how fine and how much) then brew the shots. Afterward you steam the milk using the steam wand (again you can select how hot and how much froth etc) , you have to do this after the brew as it’s not a dual boiler, again this is exactly what I wanted.
If you want to do both these things at the same time you may want another machine.
Feel like I’m already making cafe quality coffees and have used it perhaps more than I should have since buying it!!.
    Would recommend

A great balance for me as a semi novice!! A lot of automatio

Had the machine a few weeks now and the whole family love it. Brings the ‘Costa’ experience to home and the machine is designed to be as ‘idiot’ proof as possible. That said, a bit of trial and error is required to get the grind adjusted and the whole tamping, brewing, and frothing thing takes a few goes to get right. I have a new found respect for professional baristas!
This machine is expensive but no regrets on spending the cash so far.

Makes awesome coffee, as long as you buy a good bean. Had it a while now and couldn’t live with out it. Superb machine. Family never used to have a coffee when visiting, now its the first thing they ask for.

I must say I have researched and looked for ages – but this machine exceeds my expectations – beautifully made – it is a fabulous design and easy to use – and works so well !
It clicks into place and is idiot proof !
I fancied myself as a bit of a barista
so thought about the dual boiler – but heck why overcomplicate things –

The hardest part is not drinking coffee all day !!
    Highly recommended

I’m so pleased to finally own my Barista Coffee machine, was a gift from my husband.
Works exactly how I’ve imagined. I have to work on my coffee art but pleased so far.
After a few hiccups, as I had delivered a coffee machine that was used by someone, Amazon was fantastic to quickly deal with my bad experience and sent a replacement stright away .

Love the milk frother also the process is super quick. Smells like a coffee shop in my apartment! Cleaning is simple. Have the black truffle which looks strong but Would prefer the stainless steel but was no option for monthly payments. The machine is very expensive!! But worth it!

This machine is absolutely amazing. Makes beautiful coffee and wonderful silky hot milk. It takes a bit of experimenting to get your ideal grind and brew time, so expect to waste a good amount of beans trying this out. But once you find your perfect combination, you’ll be blessed with delicious coffee there after. I cannot fault this machine at all. When purchasing, I couldn’t decide between the Oracle Touch or the Barista touch. But I’m glad I opted for the Barista Touch and saved almost 1000.

It’s amazing. Easy to use (if you read the manual) and really looks the part! All four of us use it. My 10 year old daughter is an expert in making hot chocolate’s! We seem to use one setting (now we have got it to perfection).
It was a very expensive purchase (we had been thinking about it for a while and we have had a Nespresso machine or two) but this is definitely worth it. Prefer our coffee than going out!
    Buy it!
Its even super easy to clean!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is the ultimate home coffee machine. The coffee is as good as commercial outlets. It does take some practice to master all the possibilities but when you do the results are impressive. It’s worth getting quality beans they make a big difference.
It is expensive but you get what you pay for.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersThis is an awesome coffee machine – As with most purchases of this expense I researched the market fully comparing a lot of different types as well as brands, I even went in-store for a demo with the Sage representative to make sure that this is what I wanted.

It is beautifully made & very aesthetically pleasing to the eye (as per the image), it feels a quality product straight out of the box as you would expect, it comes with all of the sized filters that you would need for pre-ground, single or double shot as well as to grind beans into, a tamper, a cleaning kit, tablets & a portafilter.

Now, if you’re expecting to plug this in & hey presto a great cup of coffee comes out then I suggest you go purchase a Nespresso machine – you need to use quality beans, you need to get the grind setting right (as per the image), you need to put some time into the machine in order to understand the various settings, time wise for me, this only took a couple of attempts in order to ascertain the right grind setting for the Starbucks (Blonde Roast) beans, as you will see from the image, I managed to produce a beautiful rich honey like coffee with a lovely crema layer, froth the milk & hey presto a great tasting double shot latte.

The menu is already setup for a whole variety of coffee to suit, you can make changes based upon your preference (grind, milk temperature & micro-foam) & save it all as your desired pre-set option, so that once this is all set it is then a simple exercise to produce great coffee, consistently, so much so that I already have my 10 year old son making the perfect latte given he’s put the few hours effort with me in which to learn how to use it properly.

Keeping it clean is easy, like everything else it’s automated, it’s worth flushing the brew head between use as well as the steam wand, again, it is automated but I always blast it though so as to ensure it’s kept in perfect working order.

Take the time to use the water hardness strips & set it for your water type, it makes a difference.

I am absolutely delighted with the Sage Barista Touch, put the time in so as to set it up correctly, practice with the beans & the grind, play around with getting the milk right to suit & it will make awesome coffee time & time again.

Put the effort in to learn the machine & it will make awesome coffee time & time again.

The product is absolutely amazing! looks very elegant on the counter. Very friendly to use and require minimal effort to pull a great cup of coffee. The only thing I’m struggling with is perfecting the right grind to pull an expresso that ranges between 20-30 seconds. Either I’m pulling over-extracted or under-extracted, I guess I have to play with the grind setting until I get it right. Overall, no matter what drink I make, the coffee tastes delicious, and the latte art is easer to be drawn due to the automated milk frother.

Built in grinder require more patience!

Experimenting with all sorts of beans now, amazing the different flavours – and the machine gives good coffee shop quality taste each time. Takes a few weeks to get used to using the different grind settings etc which you do need to tweak for different coffee beans – but you get the hang of it. Couldn’t recommend more – as someone who would never dream of making coffee at home previously.

Perfect machine – very easy to use, all settings very user-friendly and had my first coffee in no time!
This coffee made taste so good and so much better comparing to coffee shop ones. Love the different styles of coffee and ability to froth the milk perfectly without the use of any specialist thermometers or techniques – you just simply set the temperature and froth setting and machine does everything for you in no time!
Machine is very easy to clean afterwards.
Overall couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

I’ve had this for a month or so now and love it. Maybe more than I love my children. (Certainly the eldest… youngest i’m on the fence about.)
Easy to use. Great coffee. Great milk. Easy to clean. Looks nice. Not too large. Love it.
Barring any catastrophic mechanical failures over the next few years, I very much recommend this machine.

Golden Review Award: 33 From Our UsersBeautiful machine, looks lovely in our kitchen.
Pretty easy to get going with to be fair. Get the water filter and hardness test done and then there’s a great walkthrough guide to get started on the screen.
Now the learning begins – I wasted approx 1kg of beans trying to get a nice slow 60ml double espresso in approx 30 secs. Could not get it to stop flowing like water even on the finest grind setting. Watery, weak, rubbish coffee.
I was on the verge of giving up and packing the machine up and sending it back.
    Was it the grind?
Was it my tamping – Too hard/Not hard enough?
    I just didn’t get it….
I then happened to see an Oracle Touch youtube video that explained that you could remove the conical burr grinder adjustment (located underneath the bean hopper) and adjust that to a finer grind – I changed it from the default 6 to 3 and put it back in – et voila – I was able to get nice “warm runny honey” flow on grind setting 6/7 using the wheel on the side for about 18 seconds grind time. Tamp firmly and use the razor to level off.
Now my coffee is wonderful, rich and smooth.
The milk frother is brilliant and gives the most silky smooth microfoam – this is so easy because you just fill your jug and set it down on the correct spot and it does all the work for you.
Now every coffee bean will be slightly different so the tinkering and adjusting will never end or stop but that’s why you buy this kind of machine right?
I buy my coffee beans from Rave Coffee – try the signature blend, perfect for espresso!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersUPDATED after longer use. Very good machine. Star lost as imho overpriced. Great, simple menu system. Fast, intuitive set-up. After couple of practices, very quick to make a perfect coffee, even if done ‘manually’. Very easy milk heating and clean up. Lots to explore once used to the basics, and worth tweaking the settings. Minor wrankles for completeness: first one poorly packed and dead on arrival – Amazon did brilliantly in sorting it though. Water top up fiddly. Standard coffee grind amount wasteful but easy to adjust. If portafilter fitting in the mount seems too stiff, you’re probably overdoing the dose. Works equally well with beans and pre ground but changing the baskets hard on the fingers. If you’re in a hard water area think carefully about the ongoing cost of filters and descalers and, I imagine, it will be a short product life.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersOrdered the Sage after having a demo in JL to replace my Lavazza Modo. This machine is on a different league to the capsule machines and other bean to coffee machines. Simple setup, even guides you through making that first cup, which by the way was the best Latte I’ve made. Can’t wait to try out the other available coffee options.

Pricey but worth every penny ...

Golden Review Award: 37 From Our UsersSeriously good bit of kit that will still take an element of trial and error when first used. As much as this machine is semi-automated with the simplification of touchscreen controls, the trial and error comes from the getting the coffee beans right through to the tamp/extraction/pour/crema etc. Any feedback you’ve seen online stating that this machine doesn’t work correctly is wrong. A poor workman blames their tools and this runs true with this so if you’re getting poor results you’re not getting it right.

My learning experience has taught me this. Heat the portafilter prior to the grind so submerse it hot water beforehand. The quality of the beans are critical to the grind and subsequent extraction so generally supermarket bought beans are not that good. Find a supplier of freshly roasted beans that have been roasted with a roast date of less than a month – ideally within a week. It’s all about the roast date unlike supermarket bought expiry dates. I get decent-ish results with supermarket bought Illy beans (vacuum sealed tin) but nowhere near as as good with freshly roasted.

I’ve found that single variety beans don’t produce consistency so I stick to using an Espresso blend. I’ve found by doing this you refine the process and no longer need to experiment with your settings.

Grind setting needs to be in the 8-12 range dependent on the bean. Finer grind for supermarket bought, coarser grind for freshly roasted. Default settings for the type of coffee are generally accurate although sometimes you need to up the dose and deliver more coffee dependent on the beans. A firm tamp is needed but getting a feel for this is trial and error. Remember to purge the machine before attaching the portafilter. The milk frother is a no-brainer.

Suffice to say this is an excellent machine that I use daily and well worth the money. Just got to put some effort in and you’ll be rewarded.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI tried a number of mid-range bean-to-cup coffee machines, and this was the one I was by far the happiest with. It’s a fantastic-looking machine, with an exceptionally well-thought-out design. There are very few buttons and controls, as all of the options are selected via the touch screen, which is clear and easy to parse.

This is the ideal machine for someone who wants a halfway house between a fully automatic coffee machine, and a fully manual option; you will have to tinker with the grind settings to find the ideal fineness, affix the portafilter (and dispose of the grains after you’ve made a coffee) etc, so it’s relatively hands-on. At the same time, the machine guides you at every stage of the process, so it’s idiot-proof, while fully automating the milk frothing stage (which is where things can often go wrong).

The machine teaches you how to make subtle changes to your extraction method in order to ensure your coffee isn’t bitter or burnt, so you learn valuable basics about making coffee as you go, and your coffee will likely improve as a result.

I recommend that you buy the Sage grain bin so that you have somewhere to cleanly dispose of used grains. There will be a little more mess than if you were to use, say, a fully automated Delonghi machine, where everything is self-contained, but you have much finer control over the results, and I greatly prefer the hands-on feel. The amount of time is takes to make a latte is extremely short, as the water heats in seconds. Really couldn’t be more pleased with the purchase.

  33. Tempie says:

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThe footprint of this machine is much smaller than what I was expecting and takes up very little kitchen surface. I’ve gone from a Nespresso machine with a milk frother to this. I wanted the same amount of hassle free, mostly automated coffee making abilities but without the wasteful pods. This machine ticks all the boxes and then some! You also still have full manual control should you want it; water temp, milk temp, milk froth density. The machine heats rapidly and could be used to make tea and even replace your kettle.

It looks and feels classy and everything you touch is either metal or just feels solid. The screen is crystal clear and for the most part easy to use. Some icons such as those for changing water temp and froth density are quite small. So those of us with sausage fingers may have to give it a couple taps before we get it, but I won’t hold that against the machine as it’s still easy to use.

Set up was simple, literally takes a couple minutes, when it does it’s first purge water does spray around a bit, so just have a towel ready. After that you just follow the on screen instructions and it pretty much holds your hand through the whole process, even giving tips on how fine to grind your coffee.

It heats up quickly and can switch from coffee to milk almost instantly, negating the need for a more expensive dual boiler setup.

Great machine, would recommend. However, -1 star because certain accessories are NOT included when they should be. A tamping mat – a small rubber / silicone mat to tamp your coffee on, protecting your work surface. Is NOT included. Why? Also a bin for the spent coffee grind, this too is NOT included.. why? Both items are cheap and the machine would be the whole package if these were included. SAGE does make a bin, and this is what I purchased. It looks great but is also considerably more expensive than alternatives.

As I said it’s a great machine but would have been an all singing all dancing complete solution with the addition of a couple more accessories. A Sage branded cloth would have also been a nice touch but alas this is not included either.

It makes great coffee, this is entirely subjective and also entirely based on your coffee bean and grind settings. Get the freshest coffee you can and ensure it has a roasted on date. The use by date is not a signal of freshness.

Edit: I’ve been using this everyday for about 5 months now and still love it. There are a two annoying points though. The first: sage customer service are terrible. You have to chase them on everything. You get three free water filters. They give a delivery date but don’t tell you to contact them, otherwise they won’t send them out. Crazy.

Secondly; the drip tray fills up very quickly because the machine purges as soon as you turn it on and when you turn it off. This still doesn’t mean it’s worth less stars as it is a top machine and very easy to use.

Great things come in small packages

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersAfter many months of research, endless questions to coffee connoisseurs and chats on baristsa forums we made a big decision to buy this coffee machine. We had some delonghi capsules operated appliances before and looking from todays perspective those machines were money thrown into the mud. Sage Barista Touch is a pearl among the geese. It does not only make coffee way better than Sturbucks but it actually turns you into a barista by teaching you every step of making your perfect cup. It is intuitive, quick, high quality machine. Golden Review Award: 38 From Our UsersI’ve had a De’Longhi Magnifica ESAM 4200 for seven years which has served me well, but wanted a machine that would give me more control over the grinding and brewing process. After reading reviews on the internet and wanting a more barista experience I bit the bullet and went for the Sage Batista Touch. Not disappointed. Once you get used to setting the grind right, as this can vary depending on the type of coffee, it is a superb machine. The automatic milk heater/frother works a dream.
