    Worth the money
I’ve had this over a year with daily use and it’s brilliant. I use in conjunction with a Nespresso machine to make latte’s once or twice daily. The kids also use it for hot chocolate and to mix milkshakes.
My only gripe was that is looked as if I had been sent out a customer return, the box looked to have been opened. I returned the original order and received a replacement the next day.

    So far so good!
Great product, large capacity to heat or foam, I get a really big mug and that’s only filling it partially. I’ve used loads of other frothers previously so hoping this will last!

This just excellent, works so well I love it. Super easy to clean and worth every penny great warranty too. I love the fact you can make hot chocolate directly in the jug. I highly recommend this milk frother.

Wow this is a great for froth and very hot chocolate
We have been using this for four weeks without any issues with pouring , heating milk or frothing milk. The jug simply goes into the dish washer every night. I never spend time writing long reviews but this is a great bit of kit and it worth every penny. We used to buy cheap ones that seem to last 5 mins. Works for a busy family household 10.10

    Does what it says...
Even at 65 degrees it is not quite warm enough when you transfer whatever you are frothing to a recepticle at room temperature, pre-warmed is ok. The frother attachment by its self is super powerful! and a bit too much for our liking. It is a bit noisy but its not for long.

    Really Brillia
I wasn’t sure about this as was a bit expensive but after using it found it to be an absolute delight. The different settings for mixing hot chocolate and making milky froth for your coffee is so easy to do.
i once bought a expensive coffee machine which made the froth/cream for the coffee and after a short while you constantly had to clean it and very soon after it broke completely, i vowed to myself i would never buy another coffee machine. My goal was to make coffee as good as a professional coffee shop would make. and so i thought i would try the Severin SM 3587 just for the creamy froth…It’s absolutely perfect, and because you have a seperate cup its easy to clean, it feels like it’s made well, and works by induction, I like complan a extra multi vitamin drink to boost my energy sometimes and i put in approx milk in the cup and the complan
choose which setting i like and it comes out just heavenly..All can say it works really really well buy it..

    Best frother on the market!
Second Severin frother I have bought -this one is a requested Xmas present for my daughter and partner as they have just moved into their first home together. Mine is still going strong after around 4 years, and used frequently.. the new one is obviously a ‘can’t live without’ item! It is a great machine, easy to use, and whole jug goes on dishwasher. Not opened and used yet, but it’s just the updated model. Buy Severin you will not be disappointed.

    Good for making hot chocolate.
I wanted something to make hot chocolate and this does the job admirably. I use organic cocoa plus some extra 100% chocolate drops (need to be broken up a bit however or they can jam it up).

    Genius
This is a fantastic machine. I use it for hot milk only however. 65 degrees is perfect for me. Drinkable straight away. Just right.
The instructions are a little bit poor though. Needs a diagram. For the benefit of readers. The little black serrated gadget for frothing simply sits over the nipple at the end of the jug. Pour in your milk. Pop the jug on the machine, set your temp and press the black button in the centre of the dial and you’re at the races. 2 mins later you have your perfect frothy milk.
    Love it.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersGenerally good, few annoying bits
So I owned a prior top of the line Severin milk frother which after 6 years of solid use finally broke so this seemed like the natural replacement.

The size of the base has reduced significantly, it has a much smaller footprint on the kitchen top.

The jug itself has a much larger step in it, the bottom is much narrower than the top, not to the point where it will topple easily but if you caught is accidentally I suspect it would tip if especially full.

There are a multitude of programmes, each depicted with it’s own icon on the small display on the dial. I didn’t find these particularly insightful so you’ll need the manual until you are used to it.

I use mine to heat coffee for lattes and so use the smooth stirrer and it does a great job of heating milk. Unlike some other reviews I find the jug pours cleanly, my old one would dribble if you didn’t pour with gusto.

There are some dumb design decisions that you need to be aware of that rob it of 5 stars, especially compared to the old manual version.

First, and it’s difficult to believe, if you use the smooth stirrer there is nowhere to store the frothy stirrer! There is a space on top of the lid that can take the smooth stirrer but the frothy one doesn’t fit! The old one had a magnetic recess on the back that could hold either one and held it firm, this is a much better solution. In addition the stirrer cover just rests loosely on top of the lid, you’d think to look at it that it would lift the lid but it won’t. These are staggering design decisions.

Second the lid is a two part construction rather than a single molding, it feels flimsy and the center part does not fit tight to the outer part. I suspect that this will be a point of weakness once its gone through the dishwasher a few hundred times. The old single cast lid is just better if boring to look at.

Third none of the programmes have an adjustable temperature. The old manual version had a simple dial that took you from cold to 65 degrees, here the dial is only used for selecting the programme, nothing else. Now as it happens for the latte programme the temperature is exactly as I like it, hot but not enough to burn or ruin the coffee, but if you like anything less than that then you’ll be letting it stand for a bit before drinking.

Lastly the handle is a two part construction, this allows water inside of it when in the dishwasher, Severin clearly recognise this problem as there is a small drainage hole at bottom if you squint, this means it dribbles badly when coming out of the dishwasher and is bound to collect detritus inside of it over time. The old design was a single piece moulding that didn’t have this problem and in addition also felt more robust.

So in summary this is a good milk frother rather than great and for the money really I’d like the points above to be tackled and combine the best of the old design with step forward with the technology and display.

    Sits alongside our coffee machine
We have a bean-to-cup coffee maker with this sat alongside to deal with heating and frothing the milk. Best option by far for us. Leaves the steam capacity of the coffee machine to focus on making the coffee. Hot frothy milk at 65C much simpler than using the steam wand and jug. Warm the milk whilst you make the coffee is the single biggest advantage. We all like different milks – much easier to clean out and much quicker to warm milk in parallel than using an all-in-one barista type coffee machine.

Pour the quantity of milk you need in, turn dial to select program e.g. normal milk heated and frothed, click, set temp (defaults to one needed), click again. So in effect you twist dial till you see program you want and click twice. Ring around top of unit glows red to show heating. You can see and hear it mixing. Bleeps and red-ring flashes when done. Lift out of base and pour.

I bloody love this thing- update it broke after just shy of 2 years
I researched milk frothers quite a bit before I purchased this, but ultimately I decided on this one. I normally don’t like to invest in machines that only do one thing, but I decided it was worth it.

I’ve never been a coffee drinker, but I have on occasion treated myself to a hot choc, a chai latte, a matcha latte, turmeric latte, or a London fog. Before Covid, I’d get maybe 2 a week, they generally cost around 5 each, so that’s 10 a week, 40 a month. Not a lot. I paid 89.99 for this, which means it pays for itself in 2.5 months. When you think about it this way, it absolutely pays for itself very quickly, and I’m only an occasional hot drinker. Though, that said, I drink hot drinks almost every day, now. And as you may know, matcha and turmeric lattes are hard to make at home because it’s hard to mix them up so well.

I only use this with plant milk, mainly oat and soya and occasionally coconut milk. It obviously doesn’t foam up as much as cow milk, but it does give a nice layer of foam. I am absolutely delighted with this machine. It takes around 2 minutes and I have perfect cafe-quality lattes and hot choc. Haven’t tried the cold option yet, as I don’t drink cold milk drinks.

This is a wonderful investment if you enjoy even the occasional drink. So pleased with this machine.

edit 2022: after 11.5 months, I still adore this machine and cannot recommend it high enough. Pictured- a soya chai latte.

edit: 2023: After just shy of 24 months, the motor started making horrible grinding sounds and it broke. Now on the hunt for a new machine. Bitterly disappointed as I have loved this machine and really enjoyed the drinks it makes.

    Expensive but practical
This is much more expensive than other frothers, but for ease of use and practicalities, it’s probably the best available. These were the advantages over other makes that made me decide to go for this one, in order of importance. These are all essential if this is not to be yet another gadget that’s deemed too much of a hassle to use regularly and finds its way in the back of a cupboard. I also list the things I didn’t like, but still give five stars because overall, it’s a really good product.

    1. Detachable jug for pouring and cleaning (I can’t overemphasise the importance of this feature).
    2. Induction heating to prevent sticking or burning.
    3. Automatic timer and shut-off, which means you can switch on and go off to do something else.

What could, or even should, be improved, considering the high price?

    1. A properly riveted stainless steel handle. I don’t dare put this in the dishwasher as I’m not convinced the semi-plastic handle would stand up to many repeated cycles.
    2. A stainless steel lid. I certainly wouldn’t put this clear plastic lid in the dishwasher. Why does it need to be see-through? Once the steam builds up inside, the lid gets steamed up and loses its transparency so you can’t see anything through it anyway! For the price, I’d expect glass or stainless steel.
    3. A better parking system for the small black frothing/stirring attachments. What’s there is a neat idea in theory but doesn’t really work in practice.

Wow! Just perfect. Forget the rest.
The build quality is superb. I was worried because the name sounded dodgy but the product is top notch. I’ve had many milk frothers, three from Nespresso and one other. They have all had their faults. Teflon is always a disaster because the milk burns on and the Teflon comes off after repeated cleaning. Some jugs are too small to get your hands in to clean them. and others make the milk warm but not hot. This unit is easy to clean with just a rinse. You can dishwasher it if you like but because there are no ‘hot spots’ the milk doesn’t burn. There is more drama than with most because it lights up like a Christmas tree but the functionality is top notch. Definitely the best milk heater/ frother that I’ve owned and hopefully it will be the last one I need. Five stars

Excellent milk frother, surpasses the res
Fantastic bit of kit. Finally a milk frother that works as I like it. I’ve had the Dualit and Nespresso (krupps) ones before, they didn’t have temp options and we’re only small capacity. This machine has room to spare for two coffees and the bowl doesn’t get milk residue on it that’s tricky to clean. I’ve found this one can just be rinsed effectively without scrubbing. As it’s an induction base, there is a cooling fan that runs about two mins after the heating cycle which was unexpected but its not too intrusive sound wise. I bought an amazon warehouse (very good-used) model and there was no blemish or mark anywhere, came in original packaging. Saved some !
A more expensive machine for sure but ahead of the pack. I bought the one with a rotary dial and five heat settings as it seemed way easier to operate rather than the all singing all dancing electronic model with the display in the button. Very happy!

    Hot froth 👍
I have had SM 3586 model for a few days now and I am very impressed I’ve tried all the temperature modes and they appear to be 2 to 3c hotter than the selected temp this might because of the cheap temperature gauge I have, the 65c temperature is perfect for cappuccino and it makes it a lot hotter than my bean to cup milk frother, hot chocolate was lovely using grated chocolate, cleaning is easy and just a quick rinse with a sponge and detergent and I don’t need to rush as when I’ve cleaned it my cappuccino is still piping hot, I would highly recommend this to anyone who is tied of lukewarm cappuccino but because of the various temp selections even for those who like there cappuccino on the colder side 5 out of 5

Great milk frother, ideal to use for cappuccino or lattes. Plenty of froth and hot milk doesn’t cool your coffee. Somehow we are getting more taste from our coffee pods even with using same quantities as our previous frother – which is lovely. Very easily cleaned, simply rinse or put in dishwasher.

I’ve had this frother for 18 months now and its still going strong despite some wear tot he rubber lining of the lid (most likely because i chuck it into the dishwasher along with the jug every day). It produces an extremely rich froth from milk and even manages to froth up my almond milk cappuccinos . Can’t recommend it enough – chinese made or not – it does the job and does it well.

    Better than Nespresso and Dualities
I used a Nespresso milk brother for years, when it eventually broke I chose the Dualit – definitely better than Nespresso, it stopped working after a couple of months so I traded up to Severin. I usually prefer a Flat White rather than a more frothy coffee. The Severin is able to make those smaller bubbles. It feels well made and is super easy to clean. I love how the jug can be fully submerged and is totally separate to the electrical parts – I’m hoping this will ensure it lasts longer. It’s possible to add ingredients whilst it mixes by removing part of the top. This can be used to melt chocolate or add ingredients to a ‘bullet proof’ coffee.

    Worth trying agai
First frother didn’t froth at all. I tried two different brands of whole milk. I even used the cold froth function followed by the stiff hot froth function, as recommended by the instructions, but to no avail.

Rather than give up and ask for a full refund, I decided to try a replacement machine. As usual, Amazon were extremely easy to deal with re the return and super efficient at dispatching a replacement.

Two days in, the replacement works perfectly and has lived up to the manufacturer’s marketing video. I have used organic whole milk and the froth has been thick and creamy, whether using the minimum or maximum level of milk.

I love the size of the milk container. It is much bigger than the Dualit so making a few dry cappuccinos at a time is not a problem. Also, unlike the Dualit, more milk does not mean less froth. I made three babyccinos for my kids, and there was plenty of froth to go around.

The fact that the milk container detaches from the base is a huge bonus for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is extremely easy to clean by hand or in the dishwasher with no need to worry about wet electrics. After a quick rinse, the machine can be reused without having to wait for it to cool, so multiple milk based drinks can be prepared in a relatively short space of time.

I have not tried any other functions so I can’t attest to how good they are. In addition, I have also only had the machine for two days so I am hoping it continues to work as it should. I am very fastidious about cleaning and using it properly, so if it malfunctions, I know it won’t be because of a lack of care or misuse.

All this to say, that there appears to be significant inconsistency between individual machines of the same model. I don’t think Severin are alone in this. I have experienced similar issues with the Dualit and the Aerocinno. I can only surmise that quality control in China is not as rigorous as it needs to be.

In any case, if you receive a dud, my advice is to try a replacement. Despite the inconvenience, it has been worth it.

If my machine stops working, I will update my review accordingly.

Excellent product brings to life coffee experience
Been looking for a new milk brother to replace my old Jura model that had given up the ghost in terms of frothing and heating. Spent a long time looking and considering different reviews before settling on the Severin. It’s not the cheapest, but I feel this is one of those gadgets where you very much get what you pay for, and, so far, the Severin has not disappointed.
Milk froths really well – lucky to live in an area close to a farm who sells direct to the locality so its extra creamy and high in protein, all of which are useful in creating good flat whites and steamed coffees. Big plus is ease of cleaning especially as we use it six or seven times a day as I’m a crime writer working from home.
Can’t fault it and has really brought to life my daily coffee experience – all of my local roast coffee beans seem to taste so much better now we have correctly heated and brother milk.

Great addition to your kitchen if you value design and German engineering
Love it — German design in home appliances never disappoints. Haven’t tested all settings yet, so far mostly frothing and milk heater.

Probably more suitable for 2+ people because the minimum amount of milk needed for perfect frothing is slightly more than in a typical nespresso frother. Excellent results with regular whole cows milk. With non dairy milks, frothing results varies a lot depending on the milk (most oat milks for example prove quite difficult if you want a really nice and smooth foam). But in my experience this is the case with many other frothing machines as well. Soy milk (which has less watery consistency compared to oat) works perfectly.

Great design and love all the different settings. Super easy to clean and so practical that you can pop it into the dishwasher.

    Easy to clean, good froth
We got it to replace a Lavazza frother that worked well but it tended to form a layer of cooked milk that was hard to dislodge. The Severin’s milk container can be removed for cleaning; it will also go in the dishwasher but the induction heating along with its stainless steel surfaces mean that it is easy to rinse and drain. This is why I bought it and I’m very pleased with it. It heats and froths to a perfect 65C but other temperatures are available. We use a setting for Latte and it makes ample good froth for two. However, like other frothers it’s best to mix it with your coffee in the cups as soon as it is ready, because that stabilises the froth (stops it separating). The froth then lasts to the end. We haven’t tried other settings as we got it just for making lattes.
De’Longhi bean-to-cup machines are the best for grinding and processing the beans; their steam frother wands are good too but they are the Achilles heels – they don’t last long – just about limping past the guarantee period. This is true of our current De’Longhi that would have ended its days if not for our old Lavazza frother. The new Severin, though expensive compared to others, will let it continue to grind on, sparing it from early retirement. And there are other De’Longhi machines with worn-out steam wands lurking in the garage waiting for a new lease of life thanks to the Severin.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersDial in the correct temperature.
I’ve had the blender 4 days now. It didn’t start of that well because it didn’t seem to froth alot (compared to my krups). I noticed other people had reviewed and complained about it too. After doing some research, you need to try the different settings and dial in the correct heat amount for your requirements. So, more froth = a lower heat setting. The hotter you go = less froth. I’ve dialed in between the cold and hot froth heat setting. Easy to do, and once in place keep it there. Now the frothing is absolutely FANTASTIC. Skimmed milk is amazing! Too much froth for a single mug/cup. Semi-skimmed is the perfect cup amount. The heat isn’t even compromised. It’s really easy to clean and built like a tank. I now love it and am looking forward to testing out the hot chocolate feature.

    Makes great quality drinks
Bought this after a disappointing Aldi velvetiser copy kept burning the milk. Have used all the functions now including cold, normal milk frothing and adding actual chocolate flakes to the milk. IT’s really easy to use and add in the chocolate. The milk quality is great and temperature is good. Soooo easy to clean and a rinse out will often do in between. The size means you can make enough milk for two good sized drinks when frothing (more when just heating milk) so makes it much easier than repeating with the smaller capacity frothers. Highly recommend.
