It was so easy to fit as a back door light thank you.

The instructions could be allot clearer as some other reviews for this item show. However I am complete novice when it comes to this but I found it straight forward and works perfectly well. The light itself is well built and works brilliantly, very happy !

Fitted on an external wall, and using a LED bulb. Easy enough to wire in and fix in place. I noted a review that warned how easy it is to lose the screws that hold the top cover (Tip: embed in a largish piece of Blutack, easy enough to start the thread and then remove, but aslo easy to find if dropped.
My only grumble is with the sensor. Two adjusters: duration and ambient light. I’m still trying to find the sweet spot between 3 seconds and 10 minutes, and either being triggered by cars at the end of te drive and having to stand directly under the lamp to make it come on. Simple enough to get to the adjusters, just very sensitive.

I bought this security light as it was a very similar shape & size to our old one which was acting up after many years of service.

After a lot of nagging from the wife & a nice sunny day, I disconnected the old light & replaced it with the new one.

Fixing the back plate of the new one was simple & the cable recess just popped out. The wiring was straight forward even for me as I am not in any way shape or form confident with electrics.
I then came to attach the front body to the back plate & this is where the product lost a star.

I spent about an hour pondering why the two holes for the bolts were far too big to take the small bolts & there did not seem to be any thread inside for them to grip on. I tried pushing the bolts threaded caps into the holes but they were too big to go in.
I then wondered if the head of the bolts would go in & the black, threaded caps would secure it from the outside? NO, the heads of the bolts were also too big for the holes?

After more pondering, I gave up & used two large screws I had in the shed to secure the front to the back plate & pushed screw caps on to them to hide the screw heads. Job done.

When darkness fell I Switched the power on the set the unit up for brightness & length of time on. That was so easy as the controls are on the front , above the sensor & behind a hinged cover unlike many where you are groping around in the dark for tiny, had to grip lugs.

I do not know if I was doing something wrong or if the bolt holes in the back plate should have had screw thread lugs in that had been missed out by the manufacturer but even so I would still recommend this light.

Like it, only has 4 glass sides, not as fussy as some. Super glue the mounting bolts at the back of the back plate.
There are two live connections on the terminal block, L for pir live or SL for on/off switch control.

Single lamp, lovely design, easy to install, made of metal and I am delighted with it. Good price and well made – highly recommended

First class product. Easily fitted and loos smart. The PIR sensor works well and the light has sensitivity and on timer adjustment, which enables an element of control.

The PIR range is more than adequate but is fixed (not moveable) and detects passing traffic on the other side of the road outside. However, despite that, it means anyone coming on to the drive will be detected, so not a great issue.

The light is really good, somewhat easy to install, would have given it 5* if it weren’t for the poor motion detection.
I would still recommend if the motion is to be expected pretty much in front of the sensor, seeing as the value for money seems to be pretty good.

Works well. Lights up the steps in my garden a treat.

These cost a little more than the cheaper ones I bought before (nothing wrong with the cheaper ones, I have moved them and used them elsewhere as their PIRs could not be adjusted) but the price difference shows. The build quality is nice and there is more room in the back box for the wiring. This makes a big difference when installing, not having to squish two lots of cable in and try and get the screws on before the whole lot pops out! I have two of these lights on my summer house. I have not ‘daisy chained’ the PIRs so both come on with one activation but I believe it could be done.
Very simple ‘eyelid’ type cover on the front to access the sensitivity and longevity sensors.

Assembles very well if you are careful how you screw the parts together then you have a good strong lamp.

Great piece of kit. However the instructions are very poor. Only pictures and they’re not too clear. It was only because I have installed one previously I knew what I was doing. If in doubt check the Internet for more detailed instructions. Other than that no complaints whatsoever. Great value. Enjoy.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is an OK light for the price. These type of lights all seem to have got a bit expensive in the last 2 or 3 years so I am fairly happy with my purchase.
As other customers said the instructions are a bit on the poor side but the only thing missing really is info on the 4th terminal.
It has a 4 terminal connector and the internal wiring is done very well. Standard Live – Neutral- Earth which will give you full operation via the sensor. ( you can add a switch in between if you want to give you the option of disabling the light unit.) It also has a 4th terminal which is Switched Live. This allows you to add a switch which enables the light to be switched on as a normal light when you want. When you switch it of it will revert back to PIR operation.
For example I have 4 fitted to my log cabins and if it get a bit dark out there I can just flip the switch and the lights will be on. When finished I switch the switch of which leaves the PIR operating.
They are a little tricky to fit but If you take your time and be careful they go up just fine.
Everything I needed was in the box though a couple of the retaining bolts where loose in the bottom of one of them so be careful when you open them. There was no damage. They come with glass panels and are cast metal of some description. The paint work is average so I guess they will be ok for 5 or 6 years before they start to flake – pretty standard for these lights at his price level.
All in all I am very happy with the purchase. I’ve just fitted 4 so its a bit early to judge the reliability. The sensors work just fine picking movement up to app 5-7 metres away.
The small half moon cover at the top of the sensor flips down ( you have to give it a bit of a tug) to adjust the time and sensitivity which is very convenient and far better than some. The adjustment’s take a bit of getting right as they seem to be very finely tuned so its a bit hit and miss and trial and error but all said and done is doable.

It works like an ordinary security light, with a motion sensor, but is a stylish lantern that looks good anywhere on the house,’is economical to run & gives a good light when required.

Having read so many reviews, most good some concerning.
I got round to putting it up and I am in no way an expert, it was very easy and the quality is very good I will recommend this light.
I do have to now find time to adjust the sensor.
For the money I am very pleased with the quality and the look.

    lovely item, good quality.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersCheap lantern style light with metal case which is better than some plastic rubbish that I’ve tried before.
Biggest problem is the wiring instructions which have annoyed a lot of people. Instructions are ambiguous. There are two live connections “L” an “LS”. Logically if you just want a switchable light, connect to the “LS” (Live switchable?).
If you want the PIR to work connect to the “L”. Timer and light controls are behind a drop down half moon over PIR sensor. Drops down from the top. Once you know this it does work.
    Good luck everyone.

Ours arrived slightly bent, so it leans slightly. The metal does not feel sturdy enough for us to wish to try and force it back, so we’ll live with that.

The motion detection is adjustable (as pretty much all these are) and works well. A bonus for us was that the circuitry allows it to be wired for an “always on” mode.

  25. Anonymous says:

Arrived promptly, well packed, and from Germany. Assembly is easy as the main lantern comes complete and glazed. The base, two pole sections, and top simply screw together. The thread is fine, so be careful not to cross thread as it is easily damaged. If you do damage it, then I would guess it would not be easy to rectify. Take your time however, and ensure that you aren’t forcing anything, and a really strong join will result without difficulty.

This item does need to be wired in a permanent location – it is not a plug in and go fitting that you can stick in the corner of your lounge! If you don’t know how to wire it safely (and it’s metal, so safety is essential) then find someone who does.

Total time of assembly and installation, to an existing power supply, less than 25 minutes. Looks good and really good value at the price.

An excellent garden light for the money

We had the same problem once my husband had wired it up, did not know how to control the motion sensor, as it comes on during the day, which I don’t want. When we found where it is situated there are two little screws to turn, but being pensioners we can’t see the night and day side or plus and minus which are just a bit of a blur. When a family member come round will hVe to get them to read it. Why there can’t be a diagram in the instructions is a mystery and down right incompetence.

Our first unit had been in situ for many years and just gave up. We replaced it with the same sort and so far so good. There were a couple of fiddly screws to tighten, but that was OK and the motion detection is excellent.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersVery good once installed. Same issue as others with the bolts coming through from back. Blu Tack is an essential. A tip- put a white sheet on the ground as you will drop at least one captive nut, and being black they are hard to find.
PIR sensor pickup isn’t very good at the side

Update: Since bought two more and am happy with how they work. The last two were easier to install after learning from the first. I suggest using Cob type LED bulbs as standard bulbs put most of their light into the top cover. Also they look more ‘period’, as originally this style of lantern would have been gas powered. The bulbs I recommend are Tebio (120w equiv) available from Amazon. See attached pictures.

Nice lantern. Needs care during installation.

Bought this to replace the hideous interrogation-style security light outside my elderly house. It is a little rickety & the motion sensor isn’t hugely sensitive (although that can be a good thing) but it does represent excellent value for money.
It is a really good size for my c19th house (many lantern-style security lights are huge) and is a vast improvement on its ugly modern predecessor.
All in all, I’m very pleased with it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersA good price for the lantern. I bought two of these. Easy to install (far easier than some similar versions I bought from B&Q).
    Good level of light too.
The arc of the sensors isn’t great, some big blind spots, but I have enough other PIR lights to cross over and decrease gaps.
Not the best, most sturdy light I have purchased. However for the price I really have no right to complain.
Packaging was fine and all the bits you need to install.

Reasonable looking, you get what you pay for. The first one was permanently on so got a replacement which works fine, had to paint the inside of the lid white to reflect the light from the bulb

Our electrician took two hours to replace two existing units with these units. When fitted with 8W “candle” type LED lights they give a warm and effective illumination of surrounding area. Controls/adjusters for darkness and timer are effective and easy to use. Picks-up movement from an impressive 25m away which is great for security. Well-made and look durable, provided the paint finish lasts.

Does the job beautifully. Easy to install and looks good. Its easy to adjust the sensor for the length of time the light needs to be on. It gives a good range of light. I would recommend this outdoor light if something smart and not overly ornate is wanted to help with security and to” light the way “.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersWiring instructions were a bit ambiguous, but I contacted the manufacturer and received a full colour photograph of the wiring which helped enormously! The light itself is really nice and works well, only coming on when it is needed, unlike the old one which switched on even on a cloudy day!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have put two of these together, today. They look as described and pictured, however, the bases are rather small which tends to make them a little “top heavy”. They will need screwing down, securely. I also notice that there is no groove in the base, or any provision to allow a cable to pass into the connection block. If you were placing these on solid concrete or a patio, it would cause a problem. As it happens, mine are for a decking area, so I can drill a hole in the decking for the cable to enter from underneath.

A really nice lamp but the screws fixing it to the wall are so short that it’s difficult though not impossible to fit. The PIR is very sensitive and responds, at some distance, to every passing person or cat. The lamp is alight for most of the evening. I’ve temporarily reduced its range with some bluetack.

Looks good, works well and easy to install. I ordered the ‘refurbished’ option from Amazon which just meant that somebody had returned it after ordering. Apart from some of the items inside not being packaged as the manufacturer would package them, it looked brand new. I had a little trouble getting it to go into Automatic mode but then I remembered that with our old light you had to flick the power on and off quickly two or three times. That did the job!

Easy to set up apart from installing the 2 retaining finger screws on the back plate. Used my finger screws from my old light, which fortunately were the same colour black.

This outdoor standard lamp was as good as it said in the advert, However the only small fault I could find was the connecting pieces for the pole were roughly manufactured and required greasing to make them a smooth fit.
