Simple installation: The provided instructions were easy to follow, and the floor to ceiling pole set up in under 10 minutes. Seriously, the most difficult part of the assembly was deciding exactly where to position it. We forgot to put the plastic collar around the pole on our first go, so we learned that it’s just as easy to take down as it is to install, and just as sturdy when installed a second time!
Exceptionally sturdy: Considering how easy it was to install and remove, I was a little worried about putting my full weight on this pole, however it holds my 185cm frame without a bit of wobble. The swivelling grab bar is an excellent feature that really extends the functionality & security of this equipment; as noted by another autoimmune disease patient, when positioned by a shower/tub door, it almost replaces a shower grab bar.
Price: While a tad on the expensive side, when compared to other floor-to-ceiling poles the Stander is practically a budget item. I’ve needed some type of stabilizer in my bathroom for a few years, but it took my recovery from a broken knee to make me finally install something. This pole makes me wonder why I waited so long. If and when it comes to it, I won’t hesitate to order another for my living space.
My brother and I were able to assemble and install the security pole in a short time. We didn’t do a permanent installation, not knowing if my parents would like it, and it holds firm with the tension control. My parents say they are happy with how it makes it easier to maneuver in the restroom.
My dad weigh 220 lb and this pole did not budge when he used it to raise or lower himself in the bathroom. He loved that the hand grip could be adjusted as well. Highly recommend. Make sure to follow directions in putting it up.
We bought this for my 95 yr old father who moved in with us. We have 10 ft ceilings and this works so good for him to get out of bed. We also bought one for the living room where he spends most of the day in a reclining sofa .. it has been a “Godsend” for helping him get up from a sitting position!!!
Was sceptical about the sturdiness of the product but was pleasantly surprised. Took less than 10 mins to put together and seems solid thus far even with a popcorn ceiling. Would rate it higher but have only had it for one day.
We purchased this for our 93 year old neighbor that kept falling when trying to get out of bed. He absolutely loves this pole as he is able to grasp it and pull himself up so he can swing his legs over the side of the bed. He has not fallen since it was installed. It is a Godsend and we are so happy to have our neighbor safe in his own home!
This is my 6th purchase of this product. My husband has Parkinson’s and these grab bars help immensely. I can place them where he needs them and the grab handle can be moved about as needed in the circumstance. They compression-fit, so no drilling into the floor or ceiling is required. (Every few months I may have to tighten them, so I imagine that I might eventually crack the ceiling, but that will not be a big repair.) I highly recommend.
I would give this pole 10 stars! I have had multiple joint replacements shoulders, elbows. From time to time struggle getting up from bed. Now it is so easy. The pole is beside my bed and the curves or loops are adjustable in that you can position them around the pole. Front to back side to side whatever is the best for you. Wish I had this a long time ago.
Purchased 2 of the Stander Security bars for my home. My mom is disabled due to a stroke. We installed one in bathroom and one in her bedroom next to her bed. She can now transfer from
Wheelchair to bed and bathroom time is now much easier for her. We’ve had them over a year now and haven’t had one problem with the bars. They stay in place and without them she wouldn’t be able to stand. Great Product hands down.
We had never needed this floor to ceiling assistive device in our 40′ Class A motor home. But when we downsized to a 25′ Class B, even an elevated commode was not enough to help us rise to a stand. The walls of the bathroom are not sturdy enough to attach a grab bar. My husband wisely chose this Stander Security Pole as the best option he could find. The pole installed easily after some fussing with the exact placement in the bathroom for optimal and safe use. It helps us rise from the commode and also provides stability when used to get in and out of the shower. The installation is very secure and the pole and attachments are very sturdy. We encourage those with unique layouts to consider using this product.
Very stable and provides the safety support where needed. It is more expensive that a simple hand rail but it does not need to be permanently mounted, so no drilling through tiles or tub wall. It will assist at getting in and out of a chair or recliner or toilet. Prevents falls in shower and aids in stepping into a bath tub. I installed several of these units to give support after I fell and broke my hip. Easy to install I even put one on some steps that had no handrail. If you feel like you need additional stability they do provide holes on the base and ceiling brace so you can install screws if you think you need them, once I had it in place and increased the tension adjustment I reall did not think I need the screws, it was very stable, I could not pull it down. Hope this helps someone.
AWESOME!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ITEM!!!
I have bought 3 of these in the last 4 years. First for my elderly mom, that was 89 at the time. We put it by the easy chair. Then she was so pleased with it, she decided she could really use one by the toilet. Then I rented my house to a men who had only one leg, so I bought him one, and it was so helpful for him to get in and out of the bathtub!! Since then my mom passed away, but now my dad is using the 2 poles my mom was using, and I am about to buy another one. So there will be one by the easy chair, one in the master bathroom, and one in the guest bathroom. The pole is prefect for any height. My mom was 5′ 2″ and my dad is 6′ 1″. The pole can be quickly and easily moved to a different location. If an elderly person fell, and was having a hard time getting up, you could move the pole right over to where they fell. So they can use the pole and grip, and you to help them get up. The is a must have for an elderly person!!!
Quality product suitable for installation in places with enough room for a person to walk all the way around it. It didn’t work for our teeney tiny bathroom. Manufascturer recommeds having enough room to walk all the way around it to ensure no one could ever get wedged in behind the pole. Something to consider if someone has dementia. Works for places without rugs or risers. Need strong floor and ceiling for the tension-rod to adhere securely.
Excellent product at a good price.
was pleasantly surprised–got it together and working in no time–real quality product, very sturdy
Very handy. Took about twenty minutes to put together and install. Getting in the tub is much safer now. Aliso, can rotate the handle around and it makes it easier for seniors to get off the toilet as they can grab it and pull themselves up. I also plan to put one near the bed as it will make it easier to get out of bed. Love it .
Wow… wish I had purchased this a long time ago. Thought because pole wasn’t permanent, was a tension rod that it wouldn’t be secure enough. Well was I ever wrong! This pole is unbelievably sturdy, durable and above all helpful. We have ours positioned for toileting and it has been a real game changer. Mom feels safer and my back feels better, too! Thank You!!
These poles have been great for my wife who has lost much use of the left side of her body. The poles provide a very solid support and grab bar, even without screwing them in (we have only used the tension feature, not the included screws which would clearly provide even greater security). She is able to pull herself from her wheelchair to standing without worrying, and likes the variety of hand placements afforded by the “B” shaped rotating grab bar. The B-bar locks into position every 45 degrees, so depending on the angles can be adjusted. The only limitation is that the B bar does not extend very far from the central pole, so it only provides support in a limited radius. Otherwise she feels very secure using it. We are up to three of them now, and may add a fourth!
Easy to install, very sturdy. I have 7 in the house for my nearly blind arthritic uncle and he’s like a monkey, swinging from pole to pole! He’s thrilled to be maintaining his independence.
My husband is elderly and was having difficulty getting up off the toilet. He had been using an open cabinet door as a support, and I was so afraid he would break the door off the hinges. After some research, I found this pole, and it is perfect for him getting up. I tried to install it myself, but at 75, I found it difficult. However, my son was able to do it in a snap. The perfect solution. Love the way the top is constructed, so it won’t damage the ceiling. LOVE IT
This has been a huge help when my father gets up from the bed. My husband made sure he measured out from the wall so he would have the top part against studs in the ceiling. It has been very sturdy and has given my father a sense of security. It also is a help for him to get back in the bed. The ability to be able to swing the grab section out of the way has also been a help
Bought this for my elderly parents living with us, but had to put in our bathroom shower. This pole was somewhat easy to install. it does require two people to put up.
once up it hasn’t moved! we were not able to secure the bottom of the poll with screws to the floor because of the pebble stone floor we have, but it hasn’t moved! everyone uses it and loves it! would recommend to anyone. it will not work that well in a regular tub.
My husband had this installed in the bathroom in 30 minutes time. It is so helpful and give me an added security for bathroom transfers. It is working so well I just ordered a second one. The handle moves around the bar and clicks into place which is really nice. I simply click pull the knob and twist the handle on days when I need a bit of extra security getting up or down. I’ve been disabled and ina wheelchair since 1985 and now that I’m retired and the years are adding up it’s nice to find something quick and easy to help out for day to day living.
I bought two of these poles for my mother who is wheelchair bound and has trouble standing to transfer. The installation was pretty simple since she had a wooden floor and standard height ceiling. You do need a stud finder so you can secure to ceiling joists. You will have to drill holes in the floor amd ceiling. The unit itself goes together easily and feels substantial. The rotating “S” handle in the middle is what really makes this a valuable aid to standing. It locks in several predetermined positions and is easily adjusted. My mother quickly developed a transfer routine where she sets the handle one direction to pull herself up and then while standing changes the angle which allows her to turn and lower herself into her wheelchair. I waited a while to do the review to see how it worked. There have been no problems ….in fact my mother loves it. Recently she had some in home physical therapy and the therapist commented the design of the pole was one of the best she had seen in a home situation. This pole was a game changer for Mom and was easy enough to install that I could do it myself in an hour.
Dad is 6’4, 225 pounds and geriatric. Getting out of his favorite chair was a huge challenge and then watching him transfer to his scooter was a fingernail biter. This gave us / him a huge boost. He can get out of the chair easier pulling up on the pole. Then he keeps one hand on the pole while turning around to sit in his scooter. No more worrying he might bobble, drag a foot, lose balance and fall over, because he always has a hand on the pole. It is priceless. Easy to install and solid as a rock. Notice it has a “base” at the ceiling, not just a pole. I believe that is what gives it the stability and distributes the load on the ceiling. Great item. We periodically check for “settling” to see if we need to snug it against the ceiling- During the first month or so we had to give the adjustment (with provided tool) a slight crank periodically as it settled into position, I’m guessing the ceiling was probably compressing a tiny bit — but we haven’t needed to adjust it in months now. wonderful addition to the house.
Bought this for my stroke survivor mom, who needs assistance getting up from her recliner. Installed this next to the recliner, and now she can get herself up and out of the chair. Total game changer, and no longer need to worry about having an aide next to her every time she wants to stand up. Product is well made and installed with basic tools in 30 minutes. Easy five stars.
Remodeled bathroom and still instinctively reach for sliding door rail. Had to install this excellent alternative soon after remodel to keep my bathroom skid-proof with grab rails everywhere.
Put this next to chair in front room. Now have something to hold on to while standing to get steady. Installed easily and is very heavy duty. Being able to adjust the handle is nice but really don’t use that function too much.
I was a little skeptical when I first unpacked this product but actually it installed without any problems. I feel very secure with the ability to tighten it to ceiling and base. The product is well-made; it is very strong and sturdy and I feel secure using it.
I installed this bedside in about 5 min. It provides a safe and sturdy place to grab to assist my wife when transferring from bed to wheelchair and back. It was easy to install and I had none of the problems described by some of the other reviewers. We have a second one in the bathroom, it’s great for transfers there as well.
Ihaave hadproblems getting out of bed for 3 years. New knee replacement did not stopmy foot from slipping and I had fell out of bed and had to call emt to get me up from the floor because my husband has had 4 surgeries the past 3 years and couldn’t lift me. The pole took some effort toinstall because my ceiling had a coffer design and that means the area we needed to install to was only sheet rock and no 2x 4’s. My sons figured out the wasy to reinforce the coffer and install and that pole is a wonderful item. I can get up in a hurry to make a mid night or morning run for the bathroom and no one has to worry about me falling anymore. I feel so much more secure.
I purchased this for a guy I take care of with MS. He can barely stand on his own, just enough that I can push his power wheelchair under him. Then he can travel through the house on his own. This adjustable pole makes it much easier for him to grab onto it while standing up or sitting down. It’s basically a big tension bar. It extends upward, proving clamping pressure onto the floor and the ceiling. It is very secure! You don’t screw or bolt it to the floor or ceiling, so there’s no damage to the drywall or hardwood floors. That means that you can fine tune its location based on your needs, and even move it around at will.
This pole is great! It makes it much easier to get up and out of bed. A difficult task after 34 years of MS.
Right now mine has a problem with the pin that locks the adjustable handle. I just notified them, Stander, of this issue and will add information on how they deal it ASAP.
ET
UPDATE TO MY REVIEW!
As I said this is one of the best purchases I’ve ever! I had a problem with the locking pin, I notified Stander of the problem, gave them the info on what was broken and the lot number, in about a week I had a whole new pole! The pole and Stander Inc. are both OUTSTANDING!
I installed it next to my 90 year old mom’s bed side. She said it helped her a lot getting up from the bed. It is very stable and will not move out of place. I was surprised it came in a very long box. Airline would not let me check it in the baggage. Took pieces out of the box and put them an in a ski bag. Don’t plan on travelling with it.
Since August 2018 my mother has lost her mobility and is now wheelchair bound. At 102 years old she has lost most of her upper body and leg strength and getting her up and down became very difficult and I needed some way to solve the problem. I found this transfer pole and decided it was the best way to help her but there was still no guarantee it would work. We installed the pole in the bathroom next to the toilet so she could pull herself up from the wheelchair and we could transfer her. It took some trial and error for a few days to find the best way for her to lift herself but we have it down to a science now. With it working so well I ordered another pole to put next to her lift chair. When that made a difference, I ordered a third one for next to her bed. The added plus to the pole is the fact that the “S” grab bar can be repositioned where needed and locks as a safety feature. It is very easy to install and is secure against the ceiling and floor although I tighten it from time to time as a safety precaution because mom does pull on it out of her fear of falling. There is no need for a fourth or fifth pole but if needed I would not hesitate to order again. Life at 102 years old is tough but these poles have helped tremendously and I highly recommend!

My husband recently had a knee replacement and our step in tub is very difficult for him to get into. We had purchased a transfer bench and used it a few times, but it wasn’t best as it sits low enough on its highest setting to still make it difficult for him to get off of. He is 6′ 8″ and weighs 315 lbs. This tension rod, placed between the floor and ceiling at the head of the tub by the faucets enables him to feel safe and stabilized as he steps into the tub. It is very secure and does not have any give to it. There are screw holes in the bottom plate to screw into a floor if needed. We have ceramic tile so that would not work, but it wasn’t needed anyway.
This Stander Security Pole and Curve Grab Bar is a must have for any elderly seniors bathroom. I installed this item in my Mom and Dads bathroom and has been excellent helping them in there daily routine in the bathroom. Would most definitely recommend to anyone with elderly parents to get this product. Also, Thank you for such fast service.
This is a sturdy, adjustable pole that can be used in multiple ways. We bought it for mom to help her transfer from a power bed to her wheelchair. Power beds make most support bars unstable. This was a great choice.
This is priceless (or at least worth every penny)! My 89 yr old mom no longer is mobile (just barely, and only if she feels very secure) and this stabilizes her in the bathroom. She loves it! My back loves it too. It is very sturdy quality. In addition, it is pleasant looking and doesn’t require ruining floor tiles or ceilings unless you wish too. I like the fact that the curved grab bar can be locked in 8 positions around the pole.
I did have a few minor issues to share:
The curved Grab Bar stopped locking after 3 weeks, but it was an easy fix: I noticed that the plastic knob could be screwed further in (clockwise). This moved the pin closer to the pole, allowing it to lock again.
My ceiling is a half inch higher than 7 ft. The extension is supposed to be for ceilings no lower than 8 ft. It was too short without yet a tight fit with the extension. I had to lift the pole straight up against the ceiling, and was just able to slide the bottom onto the base.
There is some play in the curved grab bar in any locked position. It could be perceived as a bit unstable by some users.
I rate this 5 stars despite these issues, as this device has considerably improved our quality of life.
My wife has difficulty getting in and out of bed, and this has been perfect for her needs. I found it not at all difficult to set up. It works by tightening up between floor and ceiling. We have a carpeted floor, and an uneven plaster design on the ceiling. None of that was any problem at all. The pole is strong enough that I can pull on it with all of my 310 pounds with no give whatsoever. We put it in a year ago, and it is just as sturdy now as it was then. My wife loves it.
Bought this for my almost 90 years old mom. We placed it in the bathroom where it can help her stand and also turn around and used in the shower. We installed this right in front of the toilet, which is a GREAT help for her. The side grab bar is difficult for her to reach, so a free standing pole directly in front is a much better way for her to be independent in the bathroom.
I only rate this as 4 stars just because since it is a tension pole, it really better if the top support is right under a ceiling joist, but it could be difficult. Our ceiling immediately show cracks once the pole is installed. It is not a big deal but just a little disappointed.
Overall a great product.
I have purchased two of these bars through Amazon for my 89 year old mom. This is the BEST support for her that I have found. I placed one by her bed, and one on the floor outside the tub. I can turn the knob and set it where she can grab it when she lifts off the toilet, turn the knob dial and “walk” around to her transfer seat in the tub. She can hold on and move into the tub safely. This one bar has saved her from falling several times. I can not express how much this one product helps in the care for her. I have recommended this to so many people and therapist that have come through our door. Also don’t wait to purchase thinking well my person doesn’t need it yet, let them get use to using it BEFORE they have a serious fall and you wish you had purchased it like it did. Thank you Stander!
My husband is wheelchair bound, and has fallen 7 times this summer. We looked at the transfer boards, but they didn’t seem as practical as this pole. His physical therapist suggested that I look at this product to help him get in and out bed. He can’t walk, but he CAN pull himself up with the help of this pole. I ordered it, put it together, and installed it myself. I put the pole right next to his bed. He depends on this to get up, get in and out of bed, and to get on and off the bedside commode. I don’t know what he would do without it! So handy and doesn’t take up much space. I’m able to make his bed and the pole doesn’t hinder me at all. So glad we found out about this product!
After my wife’s foot surgery, she is currently unable to put weight on one foot. I wanted to install bars in the shower, but since I have a fiberglass shower enclosure that turns out to be a fairly major endeavor. I mounted this right outside the shower, and she can reach the swiveling bar both from the shower seat and the toilet.
The only problem will be convincing her to let me remove it when she can put weight on her foot again.
We purchased one pole and it was so helpful we put in a second. Hubby is now independent in transfers from wheelchair to shower bench or toilet in this small bathroom…”I just swing like a monkey”. We like that it isn’t permanent as we are in an apartment, yet extremely sturdy once tightened in. It took about an hour to totally get the first in place and about 15 minutes for the second as I had it figured out with the first. We also like the moveable hand bars so he can place them in a variety of directions depending on the ultimate goal. This has really improved his outlook!
Needed for my husband, after surgery and a stroke. While grab bars were originally recommended, they weren’t realistic in our molded fiberglass shower. Another OT recommended this floor to ceiling bar. It works great! While the handle wiggles a bit in it’s setting, it will not move out of position without purposely adjusting it, and being able to adjust the handle position is very useful. The pole is secure and stabilizing without drilling into the slate floor. Highly recommended!
This is fantastic! It has given my 97 year old father the help he needs to get into bed SAFELY. He can not walk but is very good at using grab bars to stand and pivot from chair to chair or chair to commode. Getting into bed was very very difficult and scary. He would have to get from the wheelchair to the bed – first using a walker to stand (very wobbly) and then make a turn (with a caregiver supporting him whether he really had his balance or not) then back up to the bed and plump down. It was a great concern for all involved.
So I ordered this item. My brother and a friend installed it. It was not an easy installation because they did not want to rely only on the tension so they anchored it to the floor (which turned out to be concrete). But voila! My father reached for it like it’s always been there and transferred himself into bed independently. I can’t describe the relief we felt for the extra safety it has provided! He lives in an assisted living facility. The physical therapy director asked for the ordering information the minute she saw him use it!
I got this for my mother in her 80’s. She was unable to get up from her kitchen chair without help. My 82 y/o father was struggling trying to help her. The pole is amazing. It has allowed her to transfer sit–> stand with suupervision/stand by assist only. I put it together myself, and I am not mechanically talanted. It was truly easy. She has 10ft ceilings. I only used the tension method as I couldn’t fathom getting on a ladder with a power tool …etc. It is quite sturdy, firm/immovable with just the tension alone. Highly recommend this for anyone.
This is very easy to install and use, and looks pretty good too. I will probably keep this by my bathtub forever; it is that good at improving tub safety when entering or exiting after graduating from the tub bench mode of entry. The “grab loops”conveniently rotate around the pole and easily lock in place wherever most needed; and for use by those with some balance permanent screwed-in installation is probably optional; I haven’t needed that. I tend to hold onto it with one hand and my cane with the other to enter and exit my tub shower now.
Contrary to many other reviews, the pole I received is brand new in a undamaged box.
The pole set up easily and works fine without any additional holes or screws needed.
And most importantly the price for the brown one I purchased was very reasonable.
However I am not sure why the white version on amazon is close to $100 more.
(a $5 can of spray paint can turn it any color you want)
I would not use it for pole dancing, but for just something to steady yourself,….it’s perfect
Far better and cheaper than a “superpole”
Very sturdy, easy installation. Measure your ceiling and the pole before putting it up (a two person job).My ceiling is 8 foot, and even at their 7 foot preset, I have only 4 inches of unpainted metal showing, Make sure you locate and use the studs in the ceiling or you will push through the dry wall. The handle is easily adjustable 360 degrees. Mine came with no assembly instructions, but was easy to assemble from the picture on the box.
Excellent appliance. Well constructed and easy to install. No screw attachments needed.
Great solution for elderly mom! We installed it next to her bed. This bar allows her to grab onto something very sturdy and he’s able to steady herself while getting in and out of bed and before walking.
The tension from the ceiling to the floor is very secure.
No screws, no bolts. Held in place by tension. EASY!
My mom is overweight and the bar doesn’t budge.
Mr brother installed it very quickly and easily.
Adjustable handles are easy to set or reset if necessary.
While expensive, this grab bar is super substantial and amazingly helpful! My handyman mounted it to the ceiling with just the tension and really pulled on it, and it wasn’t going anywhere so I feel safe grabbing it. So easy to swing and lock the middle section to adjust for various needs— I have this mounted between toilet and bathtub and can move the curved section to help me up from the toilet or into the bathtub, adjust it to help me get out of my bath chair, and then swing it back again as I get out. Excellent quality and design.
This item arrived earlier than the estimated arrival date. This security pole is quite sturdy and the instructions are easy to follow.
I am totally pleased with this Security Pole. It is really well built and stands firmly without being attached by the included screws.
Some say that attaching the floor plate to the pole during the placement of the pole is difficult. As a result I attached a small piece of tape between the pole and floor plate and had not problem.
The instructions are very complete and understandable. I strongly recommend that these instructions be carefully read and followed. You will be glad you did that, if you do.
One of the best investments I have ever made. It has solved problems I didn’t know I had. The quality is excellent – baked coating (instead of paint) is very nice. I am almost 280#, and just using the expansion screw is quite adequate (IMO). The ceiling brace is designed in such a way that the pressure is very widely distributed, so that there is no damage to the ceiling (I have had it for maybe 9 months) ~~~ Note to company – consider knurling the hand grip or adding a rubber grip.
I use this in the bathroom to help my dad get on/off the toilet. It works perfectly. He was a bit apprehensive at first, due to the moving parts. However, he felt it and saw that it was very stable, so he trusts it. We don’t really turn the bar, as he uses just for that one need (on/off toilet).
The installation was very easy. It took me and my nephew about 30 minutes. This was perfect for my home situation because I have steel frame in my home (no wooden studs) so I can’t put weight bearing bars up without building a structure behind the wall. I was very happy to find this pole. It is big and clunky, but it works!
My father has Parkinson’s and at 73 he has fallen 3 times in a month just trying to get out of bed. My husband and I said enough is enough and searched online for something to assist him and give him security in getting up.
What’s beautiful about this particular pole is it works in a mobile home where you’re not permitted to make holes in the ceiling or floor. My only suggestion is to check pole for tightness often just as a safety precaution as I believe in a mobile home the foundation can shift with movement.
My father has a long healing process from the last fall but this product will help take the worry out of getting bed for both he and my mother.
The assembly was so easy and there’s even a how-to available on Youtube for those who need more of a hands on visual.
I plan to buy a few more of these as the years go by and they need more assistance.
The Stander Security Pole & Curve Grab Bar is an excellent product. It gives me the security to step in and out of the bathtub knowing that if my knee gave out on me, I have the ability to “hang on” and not fall. I wish I had gotten it a long time ago.
I bought this pole to help me stand safely and securely, with reduced pain, after a total knee replacement. It did all it promised, and much more. It’s one of the best designed products I’ve ever seen, deceptively simple but incredibly effective. It’s a simple tension rod to hold it in place, floor to ceiling, and tightens well enough that there’s never slippage. I’ve used it now for 6 months, many times a day, and it’s perfect at helping me balance to stand up. The key is in the curved bar, which can be turned around the pole at any angle you need, and then turned away from you when you don’t used it. You “climb” up the curve like a ladder when you stand, and it’s exactly right, smooth, comfortable, and effective. There are many poles out there that don’t have a curved bar like this, and it’s clear they wouldn’t do anywhere near this good a job. Insurance generally doesn’t cover these, but it should. In my opinion, it’s worth every penny and more.
I have difficulty rising to a standing position from sitting in soft furniture such as my cozy, ultra comfortable power recliner(not a power lift recliner) this device offers a helping hand to stand. Stander offers a device which offers assistance rising from a chair if the chair frame has a foot that is placed on the device in front of the chair. My recliner’s frame is recessed under the chair and the floor to ceiling positioning, unlimited range of this device is unique. The height is adjustable along with the tension adjust and the handle rotating 360 degrees and locking every 45 degrees makes this device a work of pure genius.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! I am a 54 yr old woman with MS. This pole is the best adaptive device I have ever purchased for the home!! It is rock solid and it doesn’t look like a handicapped thing in my bathroom! I call it my “cripple stripper pole” lol It’s right outside of my shower and I finally don’t feel like I’m risking my life stepping in and out of the shower (sounds crazy but I can’t lift my legs to step over threshold without hanging on to something and there’s no wall to mount a grab bar).
I have a seat next to the shower that the pole allows me to get up and down from.
I can also swivel the handle and reach it from the toilet to get up and down.
I’m thinking of putting more throughout my home in strategic places.
And no one paid me to say this or gave me anything free. That’s how much I love this product I had to review it so it may help anyone who struggles with stability like me.
There was nothing about this pole that didn’t match its description. We could install the pole with its tension capabilities. But it also had an option to install with mounting. It looks sturdy
And the swivel midway handle allows for versatility in use
This has been great. Recently got a new hip and I found this to be extremely helpful in getting out of bed. I have it toward the foot of the bed on the same side as my new hip. I can use my good (relatively speaking) leg to hook my foot through the grab bar and pull up that way. It’s pretty wobbly but seems sturdy enough. My home health worker put this up by herself. It’s pretty straight forward. I wish the entire length of the pole was painted to match
Standing aid/grab bar seemed very helpful. I say “seemed” because I used it only a few days. Leg cast replaced with a walking boot but I also used grab bar to adapt to boot. Will use for second surgery shortly–I’m glad to have this aid. But it is NOT returnable–keep that in mind. When first installed, we put it in path of ceiling fan blade. Oops! This unit is very sturdy & worth $$. But with ANY mobility aid, DON’T exceed mfg’s weight limit.
The wave pole itself is fantastic; worth every penny. This is our second one. We got them for my mom who’d had a stroke. That, in addition to a rotating transfer disk (see picture) that we bought separately, helped us transfer her from wheelchair to bed. We needed the second pole when she moved into an assisted living facility that didn’t have a horizontal bar in the bathroom. The “wave” part of the pool can be rotated around the pool for positioning, and snaps securely into place. When we ordered our first pole we were concerned that it wouldn’t be strong enough, since it was only held in place by tension. But you literally could hang off this pole (and three us us tried it first) and still feel safe.
They’re easy to install and we ordered an extension piece to lengthen it for the extra high ceilings in the house (ordered that from another retailer, not on Amazon). We’ve used the poles in three different living locations and they installed and were removed without problem, with no marks on ceiling or floor. Recently Mom moved into a skilled nursing facility and only one pole is being used. We donated the extra pole to another resident who’d also had a stroke, and he and his family love it. The pole has helped us considerably in taking care of my mom, especially at home. Frankly, I’m not sure she could have stayed at home for the six years after her stroke if we didn’t have this item.
The reason I rated it four stars is because we paid for overnight shipping yet received it three days later, which was a real hardship under the circumstances. The shipping was quite expensive and I felt they should have refunded that.
We recently purchased three of these for our parents who have had multiple medical issues. They fussed and groaned when we insisted on installing these. Now not only are they using them to get in and out of their living room chairs, they ASKED us to put in more by their beds/in their bathrooms. They have helped so much to prevent slips and falls. It also allows them to safely take care of their own bathroom needs. What a huge help and relief. I highly recommend this product.
This product is amazing!! It has given my handicapped father independence in transferring between bed and wheelchair and toilet and shower seat (we bought 2 more after trying out the first one). No need for bed rails which get in the way – simply put a Stander Security Pole on either side of the bed. Dad is 82, weighs 210 lbs and has good upper body strength. He has no use of his legs (paralyzed from waist down) and cannot stand unassisted. He pulls himself up, with all his might, and this pole never moves. He began using it just over a month ago and has had no problems. It comes with decent directions (read through them before attempting to install) and was fairly simple to install (easier with 2 people and a step stool). I would highly recommend it.
This security pole was purchased for a friend with temporary mobility and stability issues, and is a great item!
The pole is mounted on the second of two, slightly high wooden steps from the garage into the house (after first confirming with Stander’s customer service that this was an appropriate and safe application), and the movable grab bar is perfect for providing the necessary stable handhold to safely make the third step up to get inside.
There is a very small amount of horizontal play in the pole itself, which was initially disconcerting but not a safety issue and which is to be expected with a telescoping pole. Also, since it was on steps and with very limited space to be able to rotate the ceiling bracket, I didn’t particularly trust just the vertical tension mechanism alone to securely and safely install this pole and so mounted it using screws on both the base and the top. The screws provided were fine for the bottom, but far too short for use on the top where they had to go through both the 1/2″ thick (but hollow) ceiling bracket as well as ceiling drywall to go into wood. Also it was necessary to drill additional holes in the ceiling bracket to be able to secure it to wood, as the two holes that were predrilled didn’t come close to matching up and there was no way I was just going to put screws into just drywall.
Other than those minor things, I would highly recommend this item – it might be a literal lifesaver.

Although my husband and I had a little trouble getting it straight after we got a neighbor to help it was almost perfect!!! I use it for stability and balance when moving in bed and arising from the bed! We do not have it fastened to the ceiling or floor as we choose to use just tension for now. We have a thick carpet but it’s been holding tight for quite a few weeks now. It’s real security for me. I would definitely recommend this!
Love this and have bought a second one to use elsewhere in our home. My daughter and I put it up next to my husband’s hospital type bed, right where the mattress bends for him to sit up. The ability to spin the handle allows it be used by him to straighten himself in the bed and to use when he’s standing/sitting/transferring to his wheelchair. We have an 8 foot wood ceiling and a wood floor with a thin rug. When we put it up – and we used a level to make sure it was straight – we swung around it to check stability. Hubby is over 300 pounds, and it works great for him. We do keep the wrench under the bed near it – we had to quickly take it down once when he fell and the EMT’s came to help get him back into bed. The guys hadn’t seen one and were pretty impressed with it too.
Outstanding product. I liked it so much we purchased a second one. Durable, functional, practical, and easy to install. With one pole I have used screws into the floor and ceiling to help stabilize it on the carpet. Although it may not have been necessary to do so, I wanted to be extra safe. It is located in the bedroom. The other pole is standing on a tile floor in the bathroom and it is not screwed into anything, just mounted with the provided pressure mounting nut located in the center of the pole. I highly recommend this product!
Update: Saturday, May 20th, 2017
Having had two of these poles for about a year now, they are still outstanding for almost anyone who is in a wheelchair and needs to transfer to a bed, toilet, couch, or the like. However, one of the poles had a problem when the small knob that you pull out to change the position of the pole handles stopped working. The knob is supposed to pull out, allowing the user to move the pole handles around easily, then when you let go of the knob, it locks the handles in place. When the knob broke and stopped locking, I was pretty upset. The pole is pretty much unusable without the knob locking. Anyway, after reading advice from another reviewer who had a similar problem, I found that it was easily fixed. Just screw the knob back in to get the pole handles to lock again.

A family member has used these poles to transfer from wheelchair to bed and toilet for years. Other than on rare occasion having to screw the plastic latch knob back in (takes about 30 seconds), no problems at all, and a real life and back saver!

The security pole is really terrific. the user has a walk in shower with a curb and it doubles as a towel holder and security pole for stepping in and out of the shower. It pivots with a simple adjustment. Installation was simple – no hardware to attach to ceiling or floor- just tension. It has been in place for about a year. I could see it being used bedside or even near the toilet. I highly recommend the Stander Security Pole for anyone who needs something secure to grab.
If your ceiling is sloped, it won’t work.
Very sturdy construction, high quality finish, easy to install & remains securely in place.
I bought this for my elderly mother to have something to pull herself up from sitting and for support as she gets in and out of the shower. It’s fairly easy to assemble and install. I recommend having some help when installing because the floor plate falls off when standing it upright for installation and is hard to put back in place when doing it alone. I kept having to lay it down, put the plate back on, and very carefully pull it upright while not letting the plate fall off again! Other than that, I had no problems. I did not screw it into the floor and ceiling so I could move it easily if I wanted, but it is nice to have that option. I eventually needed to move it and it was easy to do since I did not have to unscrew it and make new holes in the floor and ceiling. Using pressure between the ceiling and floor by tightening the middle bolt made it sturdy and secure. The handle moves smoothly and is easy to adjust. It doesn’t take up much space and is easy to disassemble for moving if needed. I totally recommend this, especially for areas where you cannot install a grab bar.
This is a lifesaver for my 90 year old mother that recently had hip replacement. It is heavy duty and doesn’t budge once installed. It was easy to put together. I am a woman and had no trouble. Mom lives in an independent living facility so I didn’t want to put any screws in anything. It doesn’t require that and made no marks on the ceiling after I gave it a trial run by hanging with all my weight and tugging as hard as I could on it.
Absolutely great, perfect. Just read the older reviews. I agree. VERY EASY to install. Easier with two people but I could have done it myself. I just asked dad to hold up the top, which was a little top heavy until I got the tension up in the ceiling. Instructions easy. Elderly mom needed next to bed to pull herself up and be safe to transfer herself to wheelchair. Works GREAT. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I purchased at full Amazon price with no incentive to boost my review. P.s. with no permanent attachment, this can be easily moved too.
Just bought our second one after using the first in the bedroom for a year. A true help for elderly people who need assistance in and out of bed or chair. My Dad has a great deal of weakness and is now almost entirely wheelchair bound. This pole saves him and whoever is assisting him a lot of struggle and pain. The key is that the S rotates so it can always be in the best position. It is VERY easy to install. Seriously took me 10 minutes maximum. We have never screwed them in (probably wouldn’t recommend following suit) but just FYI we have never had any issue. We have tightened the one we have had in the bedroom every few months but never has it loosened or felt unsafe. Use a level to make sure you install it level and don’t tighten until the positions of the S as it rotates is where you want it. It’s easy to loosen and reposition if desired. As a matter of fact if money is an issue you could theoretically move it thought I think it would be a real hassle to od that every day. But easy to take in the car on a trip to use at hotels, etc. No damage to ceiling or floor/carpet that we have experienced. I really want to thank the designer of this item as it truly is well thought out and so useful. I would 100% you get one and I was not paid in anyway for this review. In fact as I mentioned we have purchased two of them. Fits 7′ to 10′ ceilings. Great design.

I bought two of these. They are easily adjustable and
stay out of the way when not needed.
I purchased this item in 2013 for my husband and it has proved a life changer for him. He can easily get out of bed to transfer to his wheel chair without the fear of falling. Last week the screw in the stop button sheared off so the curved piece now rotated freely making it difficult for my husband to use the product safely. I emailed Stander Inc. to see if we could get a new screw to repair the bar. Their customer service rep responded to my email immediately asking for pictures of damage so he could discern how to best rectify our problem. I emailed pictures and he responded immediately again saying he would send a replacement curve bar section that day. Oh Happy Day !!! This is a marvelous product and a marvelous company that stands 100% behind their product.
Pro: The pole will definitely do what we needed. Safety was key and this is a solid product.
Con: The paint on upper large bracket/brace not the same quality as pole.
Con: Getting tired of est. shipping dates. Not reality. If the last day of the est. falls on a Friday, I don’t expect delivery till Monday.
Good solid product, it was easy to install . Just read the directions and follow them. Well built and not ugly. Most accessibility equipment is too large for my small room, 9′ by 11′. This works well for transferring from my bed to my chair . It fits against the wall and out of the way. Unlike many reviews state you Do NOT have to screw it to the floor and ceiling . It has screws to do so if you want to. My only complaint is a small one it came with some small chips in the enamel . I can repair them , it’s too much work to return it over something so minor. I think it will be a very helpful addition to my equipment.
Works well. Good quality, though it had better be for the price!
To clear up any confusion this bar is secured by tension. You do NOT have to use the included screws if you don’t want to. The clevis pins DO need to be used. The only tool needed is included. I have installed two of these by myself but an extra pair of adult or teen hands would have made things go a bit faster. The instructions are clear but the diagrams are the most help. I do wish the instructions came with larger print and that the diagram was bigger.
This is my second purchase of one of these poles. I have had the first for almost three years and it has worked flawlessly. I have not had to adjust the nut in the middle at all. I check it weekly to make sure there is no slippage. The first pole I purchased is being used in a bedroom to help a senior get in and out of the bed on their own. They were hesitant at first not believing that the pole would hold without being drilled into the floor or ceiling. After I pulled and shook the pole as hard as I could they gave it a try and have loved it ever since. They now need help getting on and off the toilet as the elevated toilet seat is no longer doing the job for them so I ordered another pole and I got it setup in an hour. I believe that the price you pay for the pole with grab bar is well worth it. I truly believe it has and will continue to prevent the senior that uses it from sustaining a fall. As long as they hold on with both hands and make sure that their wheelchair is locked. It allows them the dignity of going to the bathroom alone and of getting in and out of the bed when they want to. You do need a flat ceiling. A drop down ceiling will not work.
This bar is working very well for my husband. He weighs almost 300 pounds and it is very sturdy. My granddaughter was also swinging from it and I said no my dear you can not be a stripper.
Perfect for my mother who crushed her spine and now must use a rollator and bath seat. We stationed this just at the end and outside of her fully tiled walk-in shower. LOVE IT! She adores it. It took my husband to mostly assemble it, and when one of the metal sections slid down on his finger accidentally, boy, did he get a great big blood blister! However, It secured completely to the floor and ceiling with the simple suction/tension. No extra screwing was necessary, and my husband was adamant that we would need that…he did not wish to take any chances with my mother’s safety. However, once up (it took about 45 mins to an hour installation in a long bathroom and up against a shower and wall…), my husband pulled and pulled on the bar, and the tugged on it in the mode of falling, and became convinced that this pole was going nowhere. No additional screws needed. I was thrilled, and my mother has been thrilled and taking safe showers ever since. Blissful customer!!
I like the Stander pole very much, it seems to be very sturdy and solid. I have one complaint: We have 10′ ceilings in our bathroom, although the documentation reads that it will fit 7-10′ ceilings the result is not pleasing. When you have 10′ ceilings the installed pole is white except for about 22″ of exposed silver pole. I bought some PVC pipe and slid it over the exposed portion. I now have a 10′ white pole..
I would think they could include a 22″ white sleeve which may or not be needed or at least tell the customer about this flaw.
At least Pole Dancing was my first thought as we assembled this pole. It made me smile.
We have a tiny bathroom with few safe places to use grab bars. While exploring our options, this was brought to our attention. It works perfectly. We have a toilet, shower, sink, and door. By placing this pole at the corner of the shower, in the center of our bathroom, we are able to turn the grab bar in three major directions.
The first direction (planned) puts the curve directly in front of the exit/entrance to the shower, allowing safe entrance and exit. The second position allows a safety spot while standing at the sink. In this position, which angles into the bathroom, it can also support someone moving towards the toilet.
When it is fully turned, against the outside of the shower, the curve gives a left hand grab bar for the toilet (we have one on the wall on the right).
Three perfect spots! One Grab bar!
The bar is easy to install requiring more thought than following directions (although the directions are clear). You put the base which includes the grab bar and put the adjusting pole on the top. You then tighten the pole to fit using the included wrench.
Because it was somewhat awkward, we used two of us to maneuver the pole into position and to tighten it.
This is well made and we will be considering it for other locations as well. If you have a spot that needs a safety bar, this is awesome! And if YOU decide to do Pole Dancing to celebrate, I won’t tell a soul!
I can’t say enough positive things about this item! I have mine in the bathroom. If you have trouble standing or walking while you’re in the bathroom including getting into the bathtub or shower it is a must have item!
I literally can’t live without it! It’s very sturdy and helps me get in and out of the shower. I’d buy the black one if you were going to use it somewhere else in your house because I think it’s more decorative. White one is definitely much better in the bathroom.
The installation of this item was very easy for my husband.
Ended up buying seven for mother in law who needed support while standing or help when getting out of a chair or out of bed. Was able to install where grab bars were impractical to apply or use. Looked at drop down grab/assist bars but: 1) required access to a wall 2) required extra bracing between studs.
Also I was able to “test” locations to see if it’s use provided a benefit or if its location needed to be adjusted a bit, all with out damaging walls, floor or ceiling. Rotating grab bar is a great feature, easy to use and very practical, making the unit more versatile than pole alone. They were quick to install and could be screwed into floor and ceiling joist if extra security was desired.
After just painting the entire house this was a non damaging alternative that completely satisfied mother-in-law.
I searched quite a while for a solution and was very happy I found this product. Bought 2 of these to aid my Dad who had a dibilating illness, and needed help getting into a standing position and keeping his balance while standing. I placed one next to his bed, and the other next between the toilet and the sink in his bathroom. It was the perfect solution because my parents did not want me screwing railings etc into their wood floors or doing anything else that may “damage” the home. These Stander poles worked on pressure mounting floor to ceiling, so they left “almost” no marks (very faint “ring” in the wood floor). They do need to be tightened from time to time. My Dad still had Very exceptional upper body strength, so it did come loose at one point, so we got the tool out and retightened it. After that, I left the tool handy so the home healthcare aid could check and tighten it from time to time (was not too often). One added surprise, is that Every visiting nurse, healthcare aid, etc. that came to the house to work check on my Dad had never seen one of these Stander poles, but LOVED it. Of course, the running joke from my brothers and sisters was that I had installed a stripper pole in my Dad’s room. Trust me, nobody is sliding down this thing – as it has a very handy ergonomic handle in the middle of it, which is great because it’s adjustable and just pivots to the position where it is needed. Out of all the home healthcare tools that I bought while my Dad was ill, this was the most expensive, but By Far, the best value.
My father in-law (91 yrs old) who lives w us. Feel down and broke a heap. The recovery process is long and tedious. We needed all the help we could get, specially w personal hygiene. I had a few therapists and handy man try to come up w a solution to provide safety & stability while using the shower and the facilities. My wife decided to order & try this product. IT was very easy to install and secure it. It is extremely well designed, strong, steady, and fits w the decor of the bath room (very important to my wife).
It has been a lot of help & has helped in the recovery process providing stability, security & safety from additional falls. This is a must have to any age. We ordered another one for my Dad’s house. HE is 83 yrs old and in excellent health. We feel this will prevent any accidental falls specially in the shower/bathroom area.
The only reason why I did not give it a 5 star its because it is only made for flat ceilings & my Dad’s house has a vaulted ceilings. We had to make an adapter kit for this tool to fit & secure in place
I bought this pole to help my father get to a standing position from his bed. I located the pole far enough from the side of the bed for safety reasons. Plenty of room so that if he were to roll off the bed in his sleep he could not get pinned between the pole and the bed. I did not have to use any screws to secure the pole. Carpet over hard wood floor and thick plaster ceiling. The pole has a long threaded area with a large nut and wrench to match your ceiling height. This also secures the pole in place. The pole lets him use his arm strength to get to a standing position. He said the pole is a big help, well worth the money, 5 stars all the way!
After an amputation and nearly six months in the hospital and rehab, life was very different for my mom when she came home. During rehab, she trained to get in and out of bed using a minimal rail near the head of the bed (a quarter rail, I think), and this was critical for her to perform transfers. When we received the hospital bed for her room at home, the only rail available was a set of weak screw-on rails that were meant to be used only as a restraint and could not handle to pushing and pulling of position adjustment, and we were worried that the rail could fail and result in a fall.
Enter this product. We were able to mount it near the head of the bed, and it almost perfectly recreated the type of quarter rail she was accustomed to. This really made all of the difference for her to be able to safely transfer to and from her bed, and between this and the trapeze, she has the leverage she needs to adjust herself properly while in bed. It has been indispensable.
The ability to rotate and reposition the grab bar has been useful at times (and would be moreso in a slightly different application), but in this case it works great as a stationary rail. It is probably a good idea to inspect the tension mount from time-to-time to ensure that it has not loosened, but in general this feels really stable and able to hold the load. We have had ours for about five months and it is still solid. Thank you for a great product!
This pole is well made and easy to install. It is very secure when installed with enough upward force. It exerts upward force into the ceiling using a threaded nut that extends the upper section. This arrangement could apply a significant force against the ceiling and my initial installation was not tight enough because I was concerned about damaging the ceiling. Once tightened some more it was very solid and did not cause any damage. The rectangular brace at the top allows significant lateral force to be applied to the bar without it slipping or twisting. The adjustability of the handle is very good and secure. The pole can be installed and removed in minutes with only the supplied wrench. It was installed next to a bed to use as an aid in getting in and out with very good results.
My husband has a brain tumor. With the pole a foot from the bed I can tell him in the morning to grab the pole with two hands and he can get himself out of bed. Then when he wants to sit down on the bed I tell him to grab with two hands and it gives him the stability to properly sit. In the night he stands, holds the pole and we use a hand held urinal. I wish I could have the poles in about 5 places in the house. I may have to buy some more… as for installation, I suppose I could have done it by myself, but I’m only 5’2″ tall… so I asked a taller friend to come over and together it was a snap. Its helpful to have one person holding the pole and the other being able to go to different quadrants of the room to make sure it is straight from all angles. I don’t think it will have done any damage to the ceiling (a sprayed ceiling) but if it does, it is time for a paint job anyhow. One extra nice piece is that the finish on the white pole is such that it seems to reflect the light blue of our walls, and so the pole blends in more than stands out… Now, as I’m writing I’m looking at the picture and realizing, perhaps I could also put one in our second bathroom which has the same layout as the picture… I don’t allow my husband to use that bathroom because there isn’t any place for a grab bar… I think this would be ideal for a tiny bathroom, with one challenge… if urine would get under the foot it would be difficult to get out unless you had either a wet dry vac or took the pole down occasionally… something which would be a pain if you’re as overwhelmed as I am. hmmm… if you had a type of flooring that it wouldn’t damage you could put a bead of caulk around the base to keep the inside from getting “wet”.
